I wonder how much China's reliance on coal and all that resultant particulate floating above the Pacific affects this scenario.

It's a climate emergency when it doesn't rain.
It's a climate emergency when it does rain.
I'm seeing a pattern here.

If it rains, it's climate change.
If it doesn't rain, it's climate change.
All things are possible for Democrats.

And, of course, whether it rains or not it's a crisis. Never let a crisis, real or imaginary, go to waste because that's a great way to get more federal dollars. It's also a great excuse to raise taxes on the rubes and exercise more control over their lives.

Is the 'Atmospheric River' like a jet stream or a steering current? Only better?

Maybe the folks in Seattle can provide some insight into constant rain.
And Gavin, don't forget with the rains will come plant growth and with plant growth. If you don't cut back the plant growth the state burns up in the late summer. Don't act suprised.

The "atmospheric river" is the jet stream dipping low enough to suck in normal Pacific Ocean moisture. If it sources all the way to Hawaii, it's the "Pineapple Express". If it's too complicated for sub-genius reporters it becomes a "bomb cyclone" because that sounds cool and they're too stupid for real weather, which happens all the time = "Climate Change".

bomb cyclone is any non tropical storm where the central pressure drops by 24 mb in 24 hours
happens off the east coast sometimes
frequently in the gulf of Alaska, less common off the Calif coast
not every 'bomb cyclone' has an atmospheric river with it; as implied by Frank G, if the storm gets closer to the tropics it is more likely to tap into the moisture there

[TOWNHALL] Gov. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) is demanding answers after her Social Security Number was leaked by the federal government in a document related to the House Select Committee’s investigation of the Jan. 6 protests.
In a letter addressed to Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Noem’s lawyers condemned the security breach, asking to know how the agencies plan to combat the high-risk issue.
"Gov. Noem and her family are now at very high risk of identity theft and being personally compromised due to the failure to redact the social security numbers and make the same available to the public," the letter reads.
Noem’s husband, three children, and her son-in-law’s Social Security Numbers were also leaked.
"My lawyers have asked the @WhiteHouse, the @USNatArchives, and @BennieGThompson which of them is responsible for leaking the Social Security Numbers of me, my husband, my 3 kids, and my son-in-law." Noem tweeted. "What specific measures and remedies will be taken to protect our identities?"
Noem said that when she and her family visited former President Trump at the White House in December 2020, their personal information was recorded on visitor logs, which then became evidence for the Jan. 6 Committee.
The Washington Post noted that those visitor logs, including text messages and taped interviews, were posted online as the Committee’s investigation came to an end.
As a result, the un-redacted Social Security Numbers were put into a spreadsheet and then posted online this week, which was taken down on Wednesday.
Noem’s lawyers are demanding an answer by Jan. 13th, as the letter points out that Noem and her family are "now at a very high risk of identity theft and being personally compromised due to the failure to redact the social security numbers and making the same available to the public."
The governor argues that the security breach was a direct violation of the Privacy Act of 1974.
"We expect a detailed response addressing how the breach of privacy occurred, who was responsible, what steps breach of you has taken to remedy the breach, and what specific measures and remedies will be taken to protect Gov. Noem and her family," the letter continued.
Other politicians whose personal information was also leaked include Gov. Greg Abbott ... governor of Texas. Abbott is a Republican. His 2014 Dem opponent, state senatrix Wendy Davis, thought the absolute, most pressing, most important issue facing the state was abortion. Abbott beat the pantyhose off her. His 2018 opponent, Lupe Valdez didn't dwell too heavily on abortion, but she lost too... (R-TX), Gov. Henry McMaster (R-S.C.), former Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson ... a neurosurgeon who was under the delusion that being brilliant qualifies him to be president.... .

[FoxNews] President now heads to Mexico City to attend this week's North American leaders summit.
In the span of about four hours, the president walked a stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border and inspected a busy port of entry where border officers demonstrated how they search vehicles for drugs, money and other contraband.

If I understand correctly State pensions are not funded by the budget but instead through investments in the market. The market that has tanked recently exposing Newsom's budget surpluses as a something of a lie.

#5 - CALPERS is funded by State funds AND investment returns. (NB: I have my own local Gubbamint pension (after 36 years) which is a separate system and more stable (higher funding requirements and less optimistic return projections)). The State Teacher's system CalSTRS is even more fooked

/\ One of the reasons 'replacement people' are so vitally necessary. The school closures, teacher's union memberships, and loss of congressional seats must be addressed.

The realty that we live in a soft police state was confirmed by an event I witnessed in California. Beach. Right after the drinking ban.
Flying police soooie, helicopter, was patrolling the beach for drinking. Mind you, when you have a helicopter flying over the beach - beach patrons get blasted by beach sand. Police saw a patron drinking on the beach, hovered the helicopter overhead, while the Piggie Pig repelled down a rope to the beachhead to write the man a ticket.
If this was GTA, I would have pulled out a bazooka from my back pocket and got my five stars. Couldnt believe my eyes.

California needs to crater like Venezuela before the voters there learn the foolishness of their votes.
Either that or they need to rise up and remove the corrupt politicians who have been stealing elections for a decade or more using lax confirmation of who you are standards.
