UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Police say a Pennsylvania man in a hospital gown stole $50 from his ex-girlfriend at Walmart, then tried to flee on a store-owned motorized shopping scooter.
Thirty-two-year-old Craig David Jr., of Smithfield, was charged Wednesday with robbery and disorderly conduct.
State police Cpl. Chuck Frey says David had just been released from a hospital for injuries in a domestic dispute Jan. 1. Frey says David had been hit with a frying pan and table leg.
David was still in a hospital gown Tuesday night when he met an ex-girlfriend who agreed to pay for his prescription medication. Instead, police say he grabbed $50 from her and scooted away.
David remained jailed Thursday. He does not have an attorney.
Norfolk Constabulary continues its investigations into criminal offences in relation to a data breach at the University of East Anglia. During the enquiry officers have been working in liaison with the Office of the Information Commissioner and with officers from the National Domestic Extremism Team. The UEA continues to co-operate with the enquiry however major investigations of this nature are of necessity very detailed and as a consequence can take time to reach a conclusion. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.

Note that this "team" is a PRIVATE organization founded and run by the Police Chiefs and though funded by the gov't is immune from any FoI requests.
This is a stark example of the move to private armies among the socialist elite.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced late on January 8 the implementation of a new exchange rate that includes two official prices for the dollar. The first exchange rate will be VEB 2.60 per dollar (previously at VEB 2.15), and the so-called "oil dollar" at VEB 4.30.
Just the next step in the ruination of the country ...
The ruler also reported that the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), jointly with the Executive Office would step in the foreign exchange market to prevent speculative foreign exchange operations.
The two official rates will be in force for two different sectors of the economy. The VEB 2.60 per US dollar rate will be for food, health, imports of machinery and equipment, science and technology, as well as everything related to the public sector, family remittances, remittances of US dollars to Venezuelan students abroad, consulates and embassies in the country. It will include retirees, pensioners and special cases.
Meanwhile, the car industry, trade, telecommunications, chemicals, steel industries, computers, rubber and plastics, electrical appliances, textiles, electrical services, construction, electronics, graphics, tobacco and beverages, among others, will be covered by the "oil dollar" at VEB 4.30 per dollar.. "We want these measures to stimulate exports. We want Venezuela to become a country that exports and stop being dependent exclusively on oil," Chavez said in justifying the decision.
Dollars to Fonden
In order to "promote and encourage the development of national economy," USD 7 billion will be transferred from the BCV to the National Development Fund (Fonden).
"International reserves have exceeded the legal limit established and these extra resources will be transferred," to Fonden, he said.
Three special funds will be created in 2010 to manage Venezuelan resources in 2010.
Such funds are to finance exports, import substitution and contingency plans to deal with an ailing domestic electrical sector.
Chavez said that the fund for exports would finance projects of cooperatives, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurship.
The fund intended to substitute imports will benefit producers of finished goods, and the third fund will finance a National Energy Plan.

He's not living in a fool's paradise. The way it works is, those connected to the government can get dollars at one rate, and those who aren't can get them at market rates. This gives those who are in with the party an additional chance to make money off of the difference in conversion rates.
SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Yonhap) -- Air Koryo, North Korea's air carrier, has been banned from offering flight services to Europe for a fifth year after having failed to meet international safety requirements, U.S. international broadcaster Radio Free Asia (RFA) said Saturday.
The North Korean carrier has been involved in the list of carriers prohibiting from flying to the 27 members of European Union that was released this year, RFA said.
Air Koryo reportedly has a fleet of about 20 planes made between the 1960s and 1970s in the Soviet Union.

North Korea has an airline? Wow.
I am trying to picture the in-flight food service; what would they serve? "Bark? Grass? A little water with your gravel, running dog lackey sir?"
I got to fly Aeroflot once in the bad old days (my Swiss Air flight was forced to land in central USSR due to maintenance issue, so they switched us over to Aeroflot). Now THAT was a treat. First class box lunches, the totality of in-flight food service, included an apple (of sorts) and a stale-ish sandwich with a thin fish paste filling. Good vodka and caviar though, and lots of it. I remember streaks of a black oily substance running down the cabin walls from the ventilation slits, a mixture of condensed water and cigarette smoke my nose told me. And brother was it cold. The vodka was there for a reason.

U.S. investors oppose federal initiatives that would force them to give up control over their 401(k) accounts, the Investment Company Institute (ICI) said.
Seven in 10 U.S. households object to the idea of the government requiring retirees to convert part of their savings into annuities guaranteeing a steady payment for life, according to an institute-funded report today.
The U.S. Treasury and Labor Departments will ask for public comment as soon as next week on ways to promote the conversion of 401(k) savings and Individual Retirement Accounts into annuities or other steady payment streams, according to Assistant Labor Secretary Phyllis C. Borzi and Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary Mark Iwry, who are spearheading the effort.
The institute's member companies manage $11.6 trillion of assets in mutual funds, including employer-sponsored 401(k) accounts. Some lawmakers have questioned the public-policy value of the tax benefits for people investing in retirement accounts, the ICI said in a report today. In Argentina, $29B was seized this way, then immediately used to pay down debt, not saved, using the same gimmick as the US Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) money paid by employees, that was supposed to go for their Social Security, but was immediately spent. In this case, the "promise" is that substantial interest or losses will be replaced with a fixed 2-3% interest for retirement savings.

Makes me double-damned glad I got out of the 401K years ago.

Many, many, many middle class, and many, many, working class, people depend on 401K and IRA plans for the bulk of their retirement.
I cannot believe the Obama people are so stupid that they don't understand just how angry people would be if their 401K and IRA funds were shifted to government control.
That would spark a true revolution.

Is every one else just sick of governments always trying to get more of YOUR money? It seems every time I turn around there is another butthead asking for money/fees/taxes.
#5
Although I doubt the word "nationalize" will be used by our elected betters, there shall be no doubt as to the intention.
The effects of this, should it be implemented, will be VERY intersting. For them to so directly screw with with individual retirement monies is, I suspect, a place best not visited....

Folks, you've got to remember that to the government, there is no such thing as "your" money. It all belongs to the government. They let you keep some of it for a while. But if you don't spend it wisely in their opinion, they will take it and spend it on more important things, like welfare, bribes and corruption.

Though it is true a great many Americans have 401(k)s and IRAs, I don't know that it is a majority, and it certainly won't be a majority once illegal immigrants get (more of) the vote. To provide for the majority of net recipients of government support, the government is going to have to take heavily from the remaining minority; that strategy leads to re-election.
(Even a lot of IRA holders won't dare object, because their IRAs are worth less than their Social Security, and they will be afraid to lose both.)

So I should create an offshore company.
Buy its stock with my online IRA trading account.
Have it go bankrupt
.. secreting its assets in a numbered trading account in the Caymens.
And to make it easy for everybody else... set up a web page out of the Caymens to do it?

Try it, you bastards. Please try it. Give us a really, really good reason to escalate the results of November's elections from "turning you out of office" to "anointing you with boiling tar and chicken feathers."

They'll do it by stealth.
I'll bet they'll make the funds you buy in your 401K account have to buy a certain %age of T-Bills for stability (i.e. Using inflation as a tax).

You look at everything BOA has done, and who has been appointed, and the czars, ad nausium, and you can see that this is a socialist-communist takeover of this country. I honestly believe that dem congress critters are too stupid to see this. The term "useful idiots" comes to mind.
This is just the beginning. Then they will control your bank account, and then your home and property. Think I'm crazy. Ask the spirits of the Russians in Moscow that eventually had their homes taken over after 1917. America better get its rectal/cranial inversion solved before it is too late.

Wasn't there some discussion about something like this before. The Government sizing IRA's and 401K's and placing them in a 'Social Security' type program -- so that everyone has a fair share....
Meaning they will take the savings I scrimpted and saved for decades and give it to Tom Asshole down the street who has wasted his money on Boats, hot cars, extravagant vacations, etc.. Or the Illegal alien who hasn't paid a dime in his entire life toward taxes....
To hell with the tar and feathers - Doesn't Washington DC have lamp posts?

CrazyFool: Yes, there was a House subcommittee hearing on the subject in December 2008, led by Rep. "Baghdad" Jim McDermott IIRC.
If this business about a call for comment is true, Borzi and Iwry need to be hung upside-down by their shoelaces from third-story windows of their respective office complexes, pour encourager les autres.
Also? A little discouraging that three in ten Americans are so utterly economically illiterate (or fiscally malicious!) as to think this sort of nationalization is a good idea.

They do this, I'm getting my gun and hunting Congressmen. At least that way, I'll be guaranteed 3 meals and a roof over my head, more than I 'll have left if they steal away my savings and slop it into such a crap vehicle as T-Bills.
Hundreds of migrant workers, most of them Africans, went on a rampage Friday in a southern Italian town in a second day of rioting, with authorities reporting five migrants wounded by gunfire and clubbings.
Violence ebbed and flared throughout Friday in Rosarno, a town near the western coast of Calabria in the "toe" of the Italian peninsula. The clashes in the crime-ridden and volatile area had begun a day earlier, when two migrants were wounded by pellet fire, said a top police official, Renato Cortese, in the regional capital.
Friday evening, in separate incidents, another two migrants were reported wounded in the feet and legs by pellet fire, and three more were seriously injured when they were beaten with metal rods.

Last year, the "tea party" movement succeeded in capturing national headlines with its boisterous anti-government protests. This year, based on what's on the calendar for the start of 2010, tea party activists and affiliated groups are looking to gain even more influence and momentum.
The first major event of the year is set for Jan. 20, when tea party activists plan a national strike marking the one-year anniversary of President Obama's inauguration.
Then former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is headlining a National Tea Party Convention from Feb. 4 to 6 in Nashville, Tenn. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., a lawmaker who has taken part in previous tea party rallies, also is expected to speak.
"Tea Party Nation" president and convention organizer Judson Phillips told Fox News that the convention will help tea party leaders from across the nation network with each other, give attendees information and provide unity within the movement. There are 600 tickets allocated for the convention and 1,100 for the banquet with Palin.
The most ambitious of the tea party events planned is a 20-day, 42-city road trip that is scheduled to start in March -- a cross-country caravan tour called the "Tea Party Express III." Organizers are encouraging supporters to get in buses and join them at Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's hometown of Searchlight, Nev., on March 27.
The caravan then will go across the country stopping in cities like Little Rock, Ark., Springfield, Ill., Davenport, Iowa, Detroit, Erie, Pa., and Boston. The final stop is Washington, D.C., on Tax Day, April 15.
Click here to see the map of the cities on the trip here.
According to the Web site, organizers say they hope to "bring activism against Obama's healthcare plan as well as continued opposition against out-of-control spending, higher taxes, bailouts and the 'Cap & Trade' global warming fiasco."
The tea party movement has sparked debate among political observers about whether it can evolve into a major political force.
Just this week, many credited the tea party movement for the resignation of Jim Greer, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida whose stances clashed with the movement.
"The tea party movement has the potential to drive public opinion and electoral support in ways that are hard to fully appreciate right now. The American people are angry at both parties, and the tea party movement fills an important void that neither party currently addresses," said Democratic strategist and Fox News contributor Doug Schoen.
Republican political consultant Matthew Dowd told ABC News he thinks people are making a mistake by trying to downplay the movement, "I think Republicans definitely dismiss this at their peril. I also think Democrats, by trying to marginalize it, underestimate the anger out there."
A senior policeman in the western Indian city of Mumbai, Pradeep Sharma, has been arrested in connection with the killing of an alleged gangster.
Inspector Sharma has personally killed 112 alleged criminals in encounters
The victim's brother has filed a complaint claiming Mr Sharma's police team killed him in a "fake encounter".
Rights groups have long been concerned about "fake encounters" whereby security forces are accused of unprovoked killings in staged clashes.
Did he teach the RAB or did the RAB teach him?
Mr Sharma denies the charges laid out against him in this case.
"The gangs in Mumbai are now on the run. Encounters are an addiction for me. I feel bored on Sundays." - Sharma to an international news agency
Mr Sharma has been described in the media as one of Mumbai's so-called "encounter specialists" - the term refers to an alleged unofficial policing technique to crack down on crime. Correspondents say that "encounter specialists" have figured in reports of suspected criminals who have been shot while on the run.
Or shot while standing still. Or shot while laying spread-eagle on the ground.
Mr Sharma and two other constables were arrested on Friday in connection with the November 2006 kidnap and murder of a man who was allegedly a member of Mumbai's Chhota Rajan gang. His brother filed his petition in the high court. He said his brother had been picked up from his house by the police seven hours before his death.

Islamic Society of North America has picked a lawyer and educator from Chicago as its new secretary-general. Safaa Zarzour will be the top executive of the Plainfield-based organization, which is the country's largest Muslim group.
ISNA president Ingrid Mattson says Zarzour's commitment to the formation of responsible and engaged American Muslim youth will help the organization. However he declined to say exactly what the youth would be engaged in, and what they would be responsible for.
Now if the Methodist, Baptist, or Catholic churches chose a Prosecutor to lead a "religious" organization... Religion of peace my @ss. This is the militant, at least on the "we will sue you" arm of Islam, "the religion of peace".
