The Kenyan government on Friday rejected an opposition request for a presidential election re-run within three months, saying the proposal smacked of blackmail.
The government will never yield to blackmail. People should stop using violence as blackmail, government spokesman Alfred Mutua told reporters when queried about the oppositions demand for a fresh election.
Kenyas opposition demanded Friday a re-run of disputed presidential elections, as massed police blocked its supporters staging a rally. At least 355 people have died in political and tribal clashes since December 27 polls resulted in the re-election of President Mwai Kibaki, despite angry allegations of vote-rigging from defeated challenger Raila Odinga. Odingas Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) said fresh election should be held within three months. The way forward will involve a transitional arrangement during which proper preparation can be made for a new election ... that will be transparent and democratic, ODM secretary general Anyang Nyongo said.

Its not time for Hillary Clinton to start panicking yet, but the candidate soared into New Hampshire in the wee hours of Friday morning following a third-place finish in Iowa with a fresh sense of urgency swirling about the campaign.
Though even her husband had played down expections prior to Iowa, her finish 8 points behind rival Barack Obama Thursday night was a wake-up call for Clinton, who from day one has been pegged the inevitable Democratic nominee. Shes still the well-funded candidate with the rock-star husband and a deep, national network of supporters but the results from both the Democratic and Republican caucuses, where once-dark horse candidate Mike Huckabee sailed to victory over millionaire businessman Mitt Romney, were a sign that deep pockets and deep political roots arent the only asset in 2008.
As Obama rode to victory on the message of hope and change, Clinton seemed to adopt that rhetoric. On Friday she seemed to even adopt strains of rival John Edwards economic populism, bemoaning the reported .3 percent jump in the unemployment rate.

If Hillary can't pull out a win in NH, she is pretty much done. And she knows it. Iowa and NH are decently liberal states and if she can't win in those areas the rest of the US will not take her seriously as a candidate that can win.
However, even if she does lose, I can see her bitching and screaming through every state until the dhimocratic convention where she will be dragged of the floor screaming, "It is my turn! It is mine!"

Don't forget, about a third of the Dem delegates are unelected "superdelegates"--senators, congresscritters, governors, ward heelers, and so on. Hillary! could get a large majority of that group just because she's better at inside baseball than anyone else, and that could be enough to get her the nomination, or at least deny it to someone else.

...DV and Mike both have good points, and if she loses in NH - and let me be clear, there's gonna have to be a massive, no-question-or-spin victory there - what will probably end up happening is that the Clintons will show up at the convention as kingmakers. They wouldn't have the delegates to get her nominated, but they'll have enough influence over those 'superdelegates' to strongly affect who does.

Chris Wallace -- I think last night -- was showing video of Hill's "victory" speech in Iowa. He was smiling and finally laughing when describing the scene on the stage. Maddy Albright, Hill then Bill and Chelsea. Was laughing that it looked just like a "living wax museum!" And it did!
The image truly was -- this is what we are electing. A retro throw-back.
Hopefully, this election is the last one that we children of the 60's will have much sayso as "leaders." And there's a better bunch than us coming up!

Huckaliar said he wasnt running that ad but ran it 10 times on caucus day. Thats going to come back and bite him.
His problem is that Iowa is full of "populist" idiots, 65% of Republicans there are "Evangelicals", half of whom have apparently given up rational thought and followed Gomer "I am the Jesus Candidate" Huckafraud like the cattle they are.
NH doesnt have the large number of zombielike Evangelicals who will follow the herd mindlessly.
He's a Jimmy Carter in a Republican suit. I hope Huckafool finishes below Ron Paul in NH and gets smashed flat in Michigan.
Plus its a crossover primary, Independents can vote in either primary, which is why McCain is doing so well in NH.
My hope is Huckbee is just like the 30%+ Pat Buchanan or Pat Robertson got in Iowa when they ran - the high water mark, after which they collapsed because nobody but an idiot evangelical from Iowa would vote for them.
Thank God we have smarter and truly conservative Evangelicals coming up when you get to Southern Baptist areas, like South Carolina. People like my mom, she despises Huckabee; she likes McCain as a "War Hero" but is reconsidering Fred after I explained tax cuts, limits on agressive interrogation, and McCain-Kennedy immigration amnesty (that one really got her). She heard that Fred had quit from one of my nephews! (Thanks Michelle Malkin you stupid bitch).

Sad thing is *I* was the one that had to explain it and remind her of Fred's philosophy and stands. Thats a big sign the the Thompson campaign is ***not*** doing its job.
Fred is apparently a probably great President, but so far is a terrible campaigner.
The system now is set up to deliver us mediocre presidents who are "great" campaigners that think in soundbites rahter than whole thoughts.
More's the pity. Certainly explains Bill Clinton and George W Bush.

OS, I wouldn't vote for huckabee in a caucus but I see you have much dislike for him - what's the skinny?
FTR - I like about 92% of what R.Paul says. However, on the other 8% he's a total moron and shouldn't be let anywhere near the WH.

Broadhead, about a third (or more) of what Ron Paul espouses is also espoused by Fred Thompson, but you'd never know it from the media attention he doesn't get. The media knows Fred's dangerous, and boycot him. They know Ron Paul's a big negative, so they promote him. Joseph Pulitzer said "Our nation and its press will rise or fall together". It looks like the "fall" part is beginning to happen in our generation. Let's hope the non-traditional media can rescue us.

Hucksterbee is a one state wonder. Fred doesn't portray himself as having the fire in the belly. McKennedy (McCain) is a big gov amnesty lib and most Repubs can't stand him (except his war record). Rudy, the liberal city slicker, doesn't sell well west of the Mississippi. Whether you like it or not, Romney is going to be the guy. And he has the most organized machine capable of defeating both Hillary and Obama. (My fear is he will be too much like big guv/amnesty W after he's elected.)
