A suicide bomber attacked Indian road construction workers and their Afghan police escorts Thursday in southwestern Afghanistan, killing seven and wounding 12. The convoy had been traveling on a main road toward the city of Khash Rod in Nimroz province when it was hit by a remote-controlled bomb that was planted on a motorcycle, wounding one policeman, said Nimroz Gov. Ghulam Dastagir Azad. The convoy stopped after the first explosion, and a suicide bomber set off a second attack, killing six policemen and an Indian worker, Azad said. Ten policemen and two Indian workers were wounded.

A car bomb targeting soldiers killed five people and wounded 68 others -- including 30 soldiers -- Thursday in the Kurdish-dominated southeastern city of Diyarbakir, officials said. A bus transporting troops was passing by a five-star hotel when suspected Kurdish rebels detonated a remote-controlled car bomb, authorities said. Two high school students who emerged from a building where they were taking preparatory courses for university exams and three other civilians were killed. "A bomb left in a car ... was set off with a remote control. It was a very strong one. It was targeting a military service bus," Gov. Huseyin Avni Mutlu said. Mutlu said 30 soldiers were among the injured, private Dogan news agency reported.
Several people could be seen lying unconscious amid burning cars, and a bus was engulfed in flames, reports said. Six cars were damaged in the explosion. Some students also were injured by flying glass.
Authorities blamed the blast on Kurdish rebels. Police said two suspects reportedly escaped the scene. Authorities denied earlier news reports that the suspects were captured. The attack -- which shattered the windows of surrounding buildings and could be heard two miles away -- appeared to be retaliation for three airstrikes by Turkish warplanes against Kurdish rebel shelters in northern Iraq last month.
There have been two explosions in Turkey's commercial center, Istanbul, over the past two weeks, killing one and injuring nine. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks but Istanbul Gov. Muammer Guler blamed Kurdish rebels.

Security at the famous Akshardham temple in the capital was beefed up on Friday after police received intelligence inputs that Kashmiri militants planned to blow it up.
"We received an input that some militants belonging to Kashmir-based groups were planning to create terror in the capital by blowing up the temple," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said. He did not specify which militant group was planning to carry out the attack.
Following the input, police have deployed more personnel at the temple on the banks of Yamuna in east Delhi, visited by thousands of people every day.
The Akshardham temple has recently made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world's largest Hindu temple complex. The temple is spread over expansive lawns covering an area of 86,342 square feet and is 356 feet long, 316 feet wide and 141 feet high.
Intelligence agencies had last month warned that militants plan to carry out terror strikes in the capital.

Condemning the fidayeen attack, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati has blamed paramilitary forces for the incident. "Despite several alerts by the intelligence agencies and the UP government, the CRPF did not make suitable arrangements to fend off such an attack," she lamented. "They should have been more careful following the threat perception," Mayawati added.

At least 27 militants were killed in two days of clashes in South Waziristan along the border with Afghanistan, a military official told AFP on Wednesday.
The clashes broke out after pro-Taliban militants kidnapped four Pakistan soldiers in South Waziristan tribal district on Tuesday, the official said. Five militants were killed yesterday and 22 overnight, he said.
The official said the kidnapped soldiers were delivering food rations from one post to another when militants seized them. Their fate was not immediately known. After Pakistan forces fired at militants, five of them were killed and 20 were taken into custody, the official said.
Later a tribal peace council was convened but failed to resolve the stand-off, he said. Both sides used heavy weaponry in tit-for-tat firing that went on through the night, resulting in the death of 22 militants with no loss of life on the Army side, he said.
Rugged tribal areas along the Afghan border are a known hub of al-Qaeda and Taliban militants who slipped into the region after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in the wake of the September 11 attacks. Pakistan has deployed 90,000 troops to hunt down militants in the region.

With al Qaeda in Iraq's bases of operations dismantled in the central Baghdad regions, Diyala province has emerged as the primary battleground between Iraqi and Coalition forces and the terror group. As the concurrent combat operations against al Qaeda in Baghdad and the Belts regions peaked during the summer and fall, al Qaeda in Iraq attempted to re-establish its bases in the northern provinces of Salahadin, Ninewa, Tamin, and Diyala. In the region northeast of Miqdadiyah, al Qaeda in Iraq has gains some traction.
Al Qaeda's attempts to reform in Ninewa have largely been blunted as the group is short of funds and its leadership fractured, Major General Mark Hertling, the commander of Multinational Division North said in a recent interview with Voices of Iraq. "Al Qaeda suffered fund shortage and posed no big danger in Ninewa after [the] killing and arresting a number of its financiers [by US and Iraqi forces]," Hertling said. "The armed groups activating in the provinces worked without funds, after their field financiers escaped with money, causing a splinter in the organization."
US and Iraqi security forces launched Operation Iron Reaper in the north on Dec. 3 in an effort to keep al Qaeda in Iraq from reestablishing its command and control and bases of operation in the region. The rapid expansion of Concerned Local Citizen groups in Ninewa, Salahadin, and Tamin provinces has also helped keep al Qaeda in Iraq from fully regrouping in the North.
But Diyala province has emerged as one of the most dangerous regions in Iraq, Rear Admiral Gregory Smith, the director of communications for Multinational Forces Iraq said today in a press briefing in Baghdad. Al Qaeda in Iraq has "found a haven in Diyala," Smith noted. The Concerned Local Citizen and Awakening movements, the tribal groups and former insurgents that have banded together to fight al Qaeda in Iraq, will be a primary force against al Qaeda in Iraq in Diyala province.

This is relatively speaking: the cowardly media, safely ensonced in the Green Zone, focuses almost exclusively on Baghdad, which is why AlQ worked so hard to stay in Baghdad. Overall violence is down, so right now, we're just 'peak shaving' or 'outlier-chopping'. Some will will argue that we're chasing the lump of dirt under the carpet without noticing that the lump is getting smaller.
This is a military application of Deming's quality control methodology, where one measures, determines the source of largest variance from the desired mean result, and works to reduce the variance. The Japanese used it to kick our economic ass years ago: nice to see our military using it to kick some Jihadi ass in Iraq.
The regions north of city of Miqdadiyah remains al Qaeda in Iraq controlled territory. Raids against al Qaeda in Iraq occur in the Miqdadiyah region on a daily basis, while al Qaeda continues to launch attacks into Baqubah, the provincial capital of Diyala on a near daily basis.
The latest Coalition raid in Miqdadiyah occurred on January 3, resulting in seven al Qaeda fighters killed. Coalition special forces, part of Task Force 88, the hunter-killer teams assigned to hunt al Qaeda's networks "targeted associates of an al Qaeda in Iraq leader allegedly responsible for coordinating and directing a large terrorist group, and carrying out executions in the Diyala River Valley region." Coalition forces called in an air strike on a safe house, killing two al Qaeda operatives. Five additional al Qaeda terrorists were killed in a follow on raid.
In other operations on January 3, Iraq soldiers captured "a high ranking commander in al Qaeda's network" in Diyala province, Voices of Iraq reported. The "Iraqi Army 5th Division, 2nd Brigade troops managed to capture a high ranking commander in al Qaeda's network called Nuaman al Ubaidi in a military operation conducted at Tahweelah village belonging to Khalis, 15 [kilometers] north of Baqubah," Staff General Salem al Mandalawi, the 5th Division commanding officer told Voices of Iraq. Ubaidi "worked as a lieutenant in the 5th Division, before leaving the army and joining al Qaeda members." Two US soldiers were also killed and one wounded during operations in Diyala province, Multinational Forces Iraq reported.

Apache aviators destroyed an al-Qaeda in Iraq safe houses in the Zambraniyah area Jan. 1. While on a patrol, Soldiers from Troop B, 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, encountered small arms fire and indirect fire from a house.
An AH-64 Apache helicopter from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Inf. Div. engaged the house with a hellfire missile.
The engagement resulted in one enemy killed, one enemy wounded, one local Iraqi wounded and five suspected al-Qaeda members detained.
A second Apache destroyed an improvised explosive device discovered by a local Iraqi in the area.
He reported the IED to Soldiers of the 6-8 Cav., Reg. operationally attached to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Inf. Div. and Soldiers of the 5th Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division. The IED was believed to be placed in the mans house by al-Qaeda. Iraqi Army Soldiers removed the IED and placed it in an open field, where it was destroyed by an Apache helicopter.

Coalition forces killed seven terrorists today during operations targeting al-Qaeda in Muqdadiyah. Coalition forces targeted associates of an al-Qaeda in Iraq leader allegedly responsible for coordinating and directing a large terrorist group, and carrying out executions in the Diyala River Valley region. Intelligence reports indicate the group killed at least two people execution style in the last few days and has engaged with Coalition forces on multiple occasions. This operation follows several weeks of coordinated raids against this group by Coalition forces.
During the operation this morning, the terrorists were positively identified at a known al-Qaeda in Iraq safe-house. Coalition forces directed a precision air strike and assessed two terrorists were killed in the operation.
Later in the day, Coalition forces positively identified terrorists involved in the same terrorist group operating in the region, and Coalition forces directed a second air strike killing an additional five terrorists. Al Qaeda remains a threat to the safety and security of the Iraqi people, said Cmdr. Ed Buclatin, MNF-I spokesman. We will continue to strike the al Qaeda networks that are responsible for conducting heinous attacks against the Iraqi people.

Coalition forces killed a terrorist leader and two other terrorists during operations on December 28th to disrupt al-Qaeda in Iraq networks operating near the capital city. During the operation, Coalition forces targeted Muhammad Khalil Ibrahim, the deputy military leader for the al-Qaeda in Iraq network operating south of Baghdad. Ibrahim was a key planner in numerous attacks against Coalition forces operating in the Mahmudiyah area, and was also involved in the facilitation of foreign terrorists and weapons. Also, Ibrahim and other senior al-Qaeda members were allegedly planning to conduct a large-scale attack against Coalition forces in the near future.
Intelligence reports led Coalition forces to a location in Mahmudiyah where Ibrahim was believed to be operating. Coalition forces confirmed his presence and supporting aircraft engaged the time-sensitive target. Once the area was secure, the ground force assessed that three terrorists were killed in the strike, to include Ibrahim. The two other terrorists were assessed to be leaders associated with the terrorist network in Iskandariyah. The ground force also discovered a machine gun, a suicide vest and several grenades in Ibrahims vehicle. This was a dangerous terrorist who will never again harm innocent Iraqis or the security forces that protect them, said Maj. Anton Alston, MNF-I spokesman. We will continue to relentless pursue terrorist leaders, like Ibrahim, who threaten our forces and attempt to deny the Iraqi people a future of their choice.

Israeli forces operating in Gaza killed at least nine Palestinians on Thursday and blew up the houses of some known militant commanders, as the Palestinians fired a Katyusha rocket from Gaza that landed in northern Ashkelon, a city of 120,000 people. Sa-weeet explosives use. Read on for the tale of plight and death.
The rocket landed in an open field and did no damage, but it traveled more than 10 miles, the farthest of any rocket so far from Gaza, the Israeli police said. The Katyusha, a manufactured missile of 122 millimeters has a range of up to 13.7 miles. There are thought to be fewer than 20 of them in Gaza.
But Mark Regev, a spokesman for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, said Thursdays firing showed that the Palestinians were improving their ability to use the weapon and to exploit its range, which could endanger a quarter of a million Israelis, and he called on Egypt to do more to stop the smuggling of weapons into Gaza.
Its a sign of things to come and an issue of great concern, Mr. Regev said. These rockets are not homemade and are smuggled in, and our concern is not one or two Katyushas, but a whole range of weapons, including antitank and antiaircraft rockets. Israel is upset with Cairo for allowing more than 2,000 Gazans to return home from the hajj pilgrimage through the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, rather than, as originally agreed, through the Kerem Shalom crossing controlled by Israel. Israel continued its attacks on Palestinian militants in Gaza, especially from Islamic Jihad. In an incursion in southern Gaza, in a village near Khan Yunis, Israeli troops and tanks, backed by helicopter gunships, destroyed a house, killing two brothers, Ahmad and Sami Fayyad, their sister, Asma Fayyad, 24, and their mother, Karima Fayyad, 60. Their father, Muhammad Fayyad, a farmer, was wounded. Too bad about the non-coms, but that is what happens when you turn your home into a fighting position!
Medics at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis said that Sami Fayyads wife was wounded, and that the couples 3-year-old daughter was clinically dead.
Sami Fayyad, 30, was a fighter with Islamic Jihads military wing. Ahmad Fayyad, 32, was a former member of the Palestinian Authority security forces. Israeli Army spokesmen said the brothers were firing on Israeli forces from alongside and inside the house. The house was hit by at least one tank shell, and Palestinian witnesses said Israeli forces, using armored bulldozers, then collapsed the rest of the house. In a statement, Israel said blame for the deaths of the women lies with the gunmen, who operated intentionally from a civilian environment. Well, DUH!
At the Khan Yunis hospital were the bodies of two other Palestinian fighters who had been killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli troops. Munir Burhom, 22, and Burhom Abu Lehyia, age unknown, were members of Hamass military wing, and the house they were firing from was also bulldozed, Palestinians said. Mr. Olmert made a surprise visit to Jordan on Thursday to meet with King Abdullah II and update him on talks with the Palestinians before President Bushs arrival in the region next Wednesday. In their talks, in Aqaba, the king warned Israel against expanding its settlements on occupied land and said such moves threatened to obstruct progress on a lasting peace accord, a palace official told Reuters. The king had met Wednesday with the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas. Abdullah: "These Paleos are freakin' nuts"! Olmert, putting on kneepads: "Yes, Aby. Scootch over a little, OK? My neck is cricked".
Israeli officials said Mr. Olmert told the king that Israel would not build any new settlements in the West Bank and would avoid further land appropriations there, briefed him on the Katyusha rocket strike and said that unless the Palestinians cracked down on terrorism, no progress could be made. Olmert: "All we can do is kill them". Abduallah: "Speed it up as my throne is also at risk!"

I can't think of a dead Paleo yet that's continued to cause trouble after he assumed room temperature. Kill as many as it takes to make them stop firing rockets and if that means all of them, so be it.

The current Paleo campaign against Israel is the culmination of 60 years of deliberate actions on the part of the Arabs. It can only end with the total crushing of the Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza, pushing out the remainder of the Arabs from the territory, and annexing that territory to Israel, as was the intent of the original Balfour declaration. There has NEVER been a "palestinian" people - just Arabs of different locations. We also need to totally humiliate a few dozen other African and Muddled East nations that support and promote the current war between the Arabs and Israel, beginning with Soddy aRabida.
I just finished "The Haj", by Leon Uris, a week or so ago. This book is a MUST if you really want to understand the entire paleo cult and how it came to be. The only way to put an end to it is to get rid of the "palestine" culture. That can only be done through the overwhelming use of force. The rest of the world needs to shut up and let the Israelis do what has to be done.

Ma'an Israeli forces stormed Rafedia Hospital and besieged other hospitals in Nablus on Thursday morning in a major incursion into the northern West Bank city, just 24 hours after Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak and his Chief of Staff, Gabi Ashkenazi, had visited the volatile city.
Ma'an's correspondent said that more than 70 Israeli military vehicles entered Nablus from all directions, declaring the old city of Nablus a closed military zone preventing citizens' and medical staff from entering the area. He said that Israeli forces arrested four Palestinians - twenty-year-old Ahmad Dhoqan, from Balata refugee camp, thirty-year-old Rami Al-Qadi, also from Balata, twenty-year-old Mahir Mabruka, from the old city of Nablus and sixteen-year-old Ayid Abdul-Rahim, from the village of Zuwata, west of Nablus.
Israeli sources also mentioned that the invading Israeli forces wounded a Palestinian militant in the Al-Qaysariyya neighbourhood of the old city, before storming Rafedia Hospital and confiscating the weapons belonging to the hospital's security guards. Then they besieged other hospitals in Nablus looking for the wounded gunman.
The number of Palestinians injured later rose to 24. Amongst those was the distributor of Al-Quds daily newspaper 43-year-old Mamduh Abdul-Haq. Two other citizens were injured near the eastern graveyard. They were named as 23-year-old Mahir Talih, who received a gunshot to the head, and 16-year-old Khalid Al-'Amudi, who was slightly injured. Twenty others sustained different injuries ranging from the effects of tear gas to being hit by rubber bullets.
Ma'an's reporter added that the invading Israeli troops attacked Palestinian medics and ambulances with live ammunition and rubber bullets. He said medic, Ahmad Jibril, received a rubber bullet to his back, while medics Diya' Balbisi and Tariq As-Sabuh were both wounded by Israeli gunfire. Moreover, the Israeli soldiers arrested two other medics, Khalid Ba'ara and Sa'id Al-Masri.
The director of the Palestinian Medical Relief Service Dr Ghassan Hamdan told our correspondent that the Israeli forces prevented his attempts to evacuate injured people, and that an Israeli military jeep deliberately hit his car.
The governor of Nablus Dr Jamal Muhaisin said that the Israeli incursion was meant to frustrate the Palestinian plan to maintain security in Nablus. He described the military operation as unjustified, especially after the Fatah-affiliated Al-Aqsa Brigades decided to halt its military activity at the request of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Ma'an A prominent leader from the An-Nasser Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), was injured on Wednesday evening when Israeli fighter jets launched a missile at a car carrying a group of combatants in the As-Saftawi neighbourhood of northern Gaza City, eyewitnesses told Ma'an's reporter.
The spokesperson of the An-Nasser Brigades, Abu Mujahid, said that the outstanding leader "Abu Sha'ban" was moderately injured in an Israeli air raid on his car. "Israeli assassination will not discourage resistance fighters; it will only strengthen their will," Abu Mujahid added.
Ma'an Hamas said on Thursday that the Fatah-allied Palestinian security services arrested 15 Hamas members in the West Bank on Wednesday evening. In a statement Hamas said that five of its affiliates were arrested in the village of Skaka in the Salfit district in the northern West Bank and another from the village of Jamma'in, north of Salfit.
In the Ramallah district in the central West Bank, Hamas said Palestinian security seized 10 Hamas members, including a lecturer from the Teachers' College in Ramallah and three students from Birzeit University, near Ramallah.

Two al-Qaida-linked Muslim terrorists militants, including one wanted for the 2001 kidnapping of three Americans and 17 other people from a resort island, were captured in separate raids in the southern Philippines, officials said Friday.
Troops arrested suspected Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Tuwatin Anahalul in Zamboanga del Sur province's Margusatubig town Thursday, said Lt. Gen. Nelson Allaga. Anahalul, also called Abu Basilan, has a $48,700 bounty on his head. "He was involved in the Lamitan siege and Dos Palmas kidnapping," Allaga said.
Allaga was referring to the 2001 kidnapping at the Dos Palmas resort in western Palawan province. The Abu Sayyaf kidnappers brought their hostages by boat from Palawan to southern Basilan island, where they raided a hospital in Lamitan town. The militants, with hostages in tow, escaped four days later from the hospital after battling government troops. Anahalul later guided troops as they arrested another Abu Sayyaf figure in Margusatubig. Officials have declined to name the second suspect because operations related to the case are continuing.

Suspected terrorist separatist rebels have killed three people in Thailand's Muslim-majority south, police said on Friday, as the region entered the fifth year of a deadly jihad insurgency.
A 57-year-old Muslim man was killed in a drive-by shooting as he travelled to a local mosque in Yala province on Thursday evening, police said, while in a district nearby a 44-year-old Buddhist rubber tapper was also shot dead. In Pattani province earlier the same day, one soldier was killed and three others wounded when a roadside bomb hit their patrol.
Friday marks the fourth anniversary of the jihad rebellion, which erupted when terrorists militants raided an army base in Narathiwat province on January 4, 2004, reviving long-running tensions.
(PTI) At least 37 LTTE militants and 10 soldiers were killed in fierce clashes between Sri Lankan security forces and Tamil Tiger rebels in the island nation's embattled north, the defence ministry said today.
Sri Lankan army today overran the bunker defence of LTTE militants at Pallaikuli in North of Mannar after hours-long battle, it said, adding at least six rebels and one army soldier were killed in the clashes. Twelve LTTE cadres and six soldiers sustained injuries in the confrontation.
Meanwhile, the pro-LTTE website 'Tamilnet' quoted Mannar operations 'command' of LTTE as saying that more than 15 Sri Lankan soldiers were wounded in Pallaikulli clashes. "The Tigers mounted stiff resistance against the SLA (Sri Lankan Army) troops that were backed by heavy artillery and Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher fire since this morning," it quoted the LTTE rebel leaders as saying.
The SLA troops were withdrawn to their original positions, the Tigers claimed, the website said.
Meanwhile, according to the Defence ministry a group of 15-20 LTTE cadres yesterday targeted troops in the Parappakandal area in Mannar. Ground troops assume at least 10 militants were killed in retaliatory fire, it said.
In another incident, four militants were feared killed during a search operation in Vilathikulam in Vavuniya yesterday, the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said.
Separately, as many as 11 LTTE militants were killed in clashes with troops in Muhamalai and Killali in Jaffna yesterday, it said, adding two soldiers were also reported killed and four injured in the incident.

Hezbollah has recently removed the head of its anti-aircraft units from his position, according to Western intelligence agencies, apparently as part of the conclusions drawn by the Lebanese militant organization from the Second Lebanon War in 2006.
Almost a year ago, Haaretz reported that Hezbollah had removed one of its senior military commanders from his post. The commander was head of the regional defense of the Beqaa Valley, considered Hezbollah's heartland and home to most of Lebanon's Shi'ite population. Placed under the authority of Hezbollah's "home front logistical command," the region was particularly vulnerable as it is where many of the organization's warehouses and bases were located. During the war, elite Israel Defense Forces troops infiltrated the area repeatedly, most notably in two raids carried out on the city of Baalbek.
Apart from downing one helicopter, IAF aircraft were largely unharmed by Hezbollah during the war, prompting the organization to probe its air-defense systems. Senior IDF officials told Haaretz that Hezbollah is still in the process of adjusting to its new positions at the end of the war, much further north than they were at its beginning. In addition, it is studying how to deal with the United Nations observers deployed in the south of the country as part of the cease-fire agreement.

A suicide bomber attacked Indian road construction workers and their Afghan police escorts Thursday in southwestern Afghanistan, killing seven and wounding 12. The convoy had been traveling on a main road toward the city of Khash Rod in Nimroz province when it was hit by a remote-controlled bomb that was planted on a motorcycle, wounding one policeman, said Nimroz Gov. Ghulam Dastagir Azad. The convoy stopped after the first explosion, and a suicide bomber set off a second attack, killing six policemen and an Indian worker, Azad said. Ten policemen and two Indian workers were wounded.
A car bomb targeting soldiers killed five people and wounded 68 others -- including 30 soldiers -- Thursday in the Kurdish-dominated southeastern city of Diyarbakir, officials said. Coalition forces killed seven terrorists today during operations targeting al-Qaeda in Muqdadiyah. Coalition forces targeted associates of an al-Qaeda in Iraq leader allegedly responsible for coordinating and directing a large terrorist group, and carrying out executions in the Diyala River Valley region. Intelligence reports indicate the group killed at least two people execution style in the last few days and has engaged with Coalition forces on multiple occasions. This operation follows several weeks of coordinated raids against this group by Coalition forces. 
Coalition forces killed a terrorist leader and two other terrorists during operations on December 28th to disrupt al-Qaeda in Iraq networks operating near the capital city. During the operation, Coalition forces targeted Muhammad Khalil Ibrahim, the deputy military leader for the al-Qaeda in Iraq network operating south of Baghdad. Ibrahim was a key planner in numerous attacks against Coalition forces operating in the Mahmudiyah area, and was also involved in the facilitation of foreign terrorists and weapons. Also, Ibrahim and other senior al-Qaeda members were allegedly planning to conduct a large-scale attack against Coalition forces in the near future. 
Israeli forces operating in Gaza killed at least nine Palestinians on Thursday and blew up the houses of some known militant commanders, as the Palestinians fired a Katyusha rocket from Gaza that landed in northern Ashkelon, a city of 120,000 people.
