I was under the impression Ms Hutchins was a kid, I assumed no more than 25. But according to the article she was 42, so there’s no excuse for her not having full control of the weapons in her charge.

Halyna Hutchins was the Director of Photography (DP), the person in charge of the camera and lighting crews. The DP has nothing to do with props.
The young person in question was the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, aged 24. Her father is Thell Reed, a well-known guy in the business. The armorer, along with the prop master is responsible for any guns on set and making sure they are used safely. This was her second time out as lead armorer on a film.

Texas’ highly restrictive new law has spurred the largest documented decrease in abortions in the state, according to University of Texas at Austin researchers. A new study says abortions in the state were down 50% in September 2021 compared to September 2020. That was the intent of the bill's backers and author.
The law prohibits abortion once fetal cardiac activity can be detected, which is frequently as early as six weeks into pregnancy and before most women know they’re pregnant. But well after they know they could be pregnant.
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday, Nov. 1 is set to hear two challenges to the restrictive abortion law: One from the Department of Justice and another brought by abortion providers.

...maybe we need to check (barely) post natal COVID death stats?
it is curious that the researchers looked at wait times for abortion appointments in neighboring States as a proxy for detecting Texans seeking abortions in neighboring States (as 49Pan wanted).
I'm guessing that the neighboring States didn't have complete records at the time the researchers asked.

When I was born in St. Louis in 1949, the population of the city was 850,000. In the 2020 census, it is just barely over 300,000. Can one wonder why?

[BBC] Teenager Jess Griesel does not seem the usual red beret-wearing member of South Africa's Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) - the party intent on upsetting the country's political landscape.
She is a 19-year-old white, Afrikaans-speaking undergraduate who was recently elected to the Student Representative Council (SRC) of Cape Town university on an EFF ticket.
But in a country as racially charged as South Africa, her stance has not gone down well with some people. When Ms Griesel announced her SRC candidacy in September, one social media user described her as a "race traitor".
Twenty-seven years after the end of white-minority rule - when Nelson Mandela was elected as president in South Africa's first democratic election, calling the country "the rainbow nation" - Ms Griesel tells me the backlash shocked her.
"Being called a race traitor was something that I found very interesting and very telling about South Africa today. It insinuates that there's still an 'us' and a 'them' club."
To understand the reaction she has faced - one needs to understand how the EFF has shaken up politics in South Africa.
Formed in 2013, it is led by the fiery Julius Malema, who has modelled himself on Venezuela's late President Hugo Chavez and unapologetically promotes the interests of poor black South Africans.
The party describes itself as "a left-leaning, radical, anti-imperialist and economic emancipation movement, inspired by the broad Marxist-Leninist school of thought."
Members are disruptive, literally and figuratively.
They are often accused of being anti-white. That is because they have repeatedly demanded that white South Africans give up the land taken from black people.
Some EFF supporters occasionally sing the apartheid-era chant "Kill the Boer, kill the farmer", a highly controversial song that a court ruled as hate speech and which is seen as being directed against the white farming community.

Looking over the area via Google earth, you can see numerous shell holes north of Telmanovo. The affected area is ( I think) west northwest of Telmanovo. You can see trenches and shell holes there as well.

As the admiral specified, "the new corvette is set to enter service with the Pacific Fleet in 2022."
Currently, the Russian Pacific Fleet operates the Project 20380 corvettes Sovershenniy, Gromky and Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov.
Project 20380 corvettes are designed to accomplish green-water missions, fight enemy surface ships and submarines and provide artillery support for amphibious assault operations. The corvettes of this type incorporate the latest solutions for reducing their physical fields. In particular, the shipbuilders significantly reduced their radar signature during their construction, using radio absorption materials and specially designing their hull and superstructure.
Project 20380 corvettes are armed with Uran anti-ship missiles, Redut surface-to-air missile systems, A-190 artillery guns and Paket-NK anti-submarine warfare weapons. They can carry Ka-27 helicopters of any modification.
