Homeland Security DELAYS nationwide rollout of Real ID for another two years because of the 'lingering effects of COVID'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Real ID regulations were supposed to go into effect nationwide in May 2023

  • States now have until 2025 'to address the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the ability to obtain a REAL ID' identification card

  • It will be necessary to board domestic flights and enter federal facilities

  • Both the right-wing Cato Institute and left-wing American Civil Liberties Union oppose Real ID and claim it's an invasion of privacy

  • The measure was first supposed to go into effect in 2008, as a legislative response to the September 11 terror attacks

#1  Both the right-wing Cato Institute and left-wing American Civil Liberties Union oppose Real ID and claim it's an invasion of privacy

On the other hand it'll make deportations that much easier when either Trump or Desantis is elected President in 2024, which is probably why they made up this bullshit excuse.

#5  This could actually be brilliant. The right wants voter ID. The left wants an intrusive way to track everyone. Get folks to connect the dots and demand Real ID be used for votes (just do it after the next election so the Dems have sealed their graft in before hand.).

#6  How many times and for how many years has this been delayed now? Time just to throw in the towel.

I live in a state whose driver's licenses DHS deems to be unworthy (for whatever reason.) I'm getting tired of the charade.

Afghanistan
‘Can Facilitate for Peace’: Won’t Take Action Against TTP for Embassy Attack, Afghan Taliban Tell Pakistan
[News18] Islamabad is planning to send a security delegation to Kabul for investigation into the embassy attack. The Afghan Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
have assured Pakistain of full investigation into the embassy attack, but clarified TTP is an ’old friend’

Three days after the attack on Pakistain’s embassy in Kabul, Afghan Taliban said they will not give up their support to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and cannot even guarantee the safety of Pakistain’s embassy in Afghanistan’s capital, according to top military sources.

Pakistain has demanded firm action from Afghan Taliban in Kabul to prevent TTP fighters from using Afghan territory to stage cross-border attacks against the country.

The Afghan Taliban has assured Pakistain of full investigation into the Kabul embassy attack, but clarified TTP is an "old friend and allied in our tough times so will not take any action against" them. "We can only facilitate dialogues for peace."

According to the sources, the Pak government does not want to hold ’formal dialogues’ with the TTP, but some people in their military want truce with the Taliban outfit.

The Pakistain’s embassy attack came days after its minister of foreign affairs led a team to Kabul to meet Taliban authorities to ease tensions between the two countries along the border.

News agency Rooters reported a spokesperson for Kabul police said the embassy compound was targeted by gunfire from a nearby building. Police had arrested one suspect and recovered two firearms, the statement said.

Pakistain’s Foreign Office said the attack had been aimed at the head of mission, Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani. It said Nizamani was safe, but a Pak security guard, Sepoy Israr Mohammad, was critically maimed in the attack while protecting the ambassador.

Islamabad is now planning to send a high-powered security delegation including intelligence officers for the investigation into the Kabul attack, sources said.

The security situation continues to be going downhill since the TTP ended ceasefire last week in which the Taliban outfit conducted eight attacks in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa killing 10 and injuring several others.

Pakistain’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair National Security Committee meeting this week to review the overall security situation of the country including the TTP ceasefire and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
issue.

ISIS-linked militants in Somalia sighted as they swear allegiance to new Emir
[Garowe] Photos of small groups of ISIS-linked bandidos Lions of Islam paying allegiance to the new core Emir have emerged, with the group now saying they seek to expand their scope of operations in the country.

ISIS's Somalia branch has strained to make an impact in the country with their activities getting thwarted by the Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
Security forces who have managed to block the bandidos Lions of Islam in the Bari mountains from advancing.

The bandidos Lions of Islam are mainly located in Puntland where they have been training and at times waging mild attacks. In fact, they have been facing al-Shabaab
...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
whom they have been at loggerheads over dominance and supremacy.

Photos posted by the group showed very small groups showing a number of the bandidos Lions of Islam pledging allegiance [bay'a] on camera to the new ISIS Core amir, Abu al-Hussein al-Qurashi. Interestingly, there was no sighting of Abdiqadir Mu'min [Abd al-Qadir Mu'min], the leader of the group.

It is not clear whether factions have started emerging in the ISIS-Somalia, but such claims cannot be dismissed given the modus operandi of the krazed killer groups across the world. In most cases, top leadership experiences divisions over management and execution of action plans.

Their al-Shabaab counterparts are currently facing power struggles with the head of Amniyat Intelligence wing and finance Mahad Karate strategizing on toppling the current leader Abu Ubaidah who is believed to be struggling with an undisclosed illness.

Insiders say Mahad Karate is having serious differences with Abu Ubaidah over the allocation of resources within the group which is dominant in central and southern Somalia. This comes as the government of Somalia and the US are blocking al-Shabaab's revenue sources.

The government is also fighting the groups by shaping ideological courses by preaching against violent mostly peaceful extremism by involving holy mans.

To make this effective, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has co-opted former deputy leader Mukhtar Robow into government as Religious Affairs and Endowment Minister.

#1  For years the Western colonial powers with USA backing fought every attempt to rationalize colonial borders. The OAU followed suit. This made it hard on Southern Sudanese who sought to escape an oppressive Islamic government located in Khartoum. It has stymied the reorganization of the former Belgian Congo, and it has impeded the division of Somalia that should have allowed the north (the former British Somaliland) to cede from the Somali union. Southern Somalia is a basket case. There is hope for the north, but USA policy doesn't see it that way.

#2  Once the South Sudanese got independence from the Muslim north, they promptly fell to fighting among themselves, with just about as dire results, as far as I can tell.

I have no opinion on Somalia, except that at some point size does matter — a nation that is too small cannot sustain the various functions necessary to survive in a harsh world.

Somalia: We can’t give Robow weapons and ask him to fight, says president
[Garowe] President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has backed his Religious Affairs and Endowment Minister Mukhtar Robow in the ongoing crackdown against al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
krazed killers, noting that the former al-Shabaab deputy leader is "useful" in helping the country successfully neutralize the krazed killers.

Robow, who ditched al-Shabaab and subsequently made an attempt to join mainstream politics, was picked as a minister in Hassan Sheikh's administration, in what caught many pundits by surprise in Somalia. At that time, he was under house detention.

For months, Hassan Sheikh has entrusted the Religious Affairs and Endowment ministry to host holy mans and find a common solution to changing the ideological course of the al-Shabaab. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
the government would, later on, ban the visitation of holy mans to al-Shabaab strongholds.

In an interview with the Guardian, Mohamud said "we can’t give him weapons and ask him to fight, but he can be useful," referring to the former al-Shabaab defector, stressing that the man can convince other al-Shabaab officials to defect.

"We want to show the al-Shabaab leadership that if they surrender they will not be humiliated, they will not be mistreated," he added.

Robow has already established communication channels with some al-Shabaab leaders who he is pushing for their defection from the group. Former President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo did not have trust in Mukhtar Robow, whom he blocked from running for Southwest presidency.

Robow, who recently invited the Guardian into his residence in Mogadishu, at the request of President Mohamud, insists that he has long had ideological differences with al-Shabaab. "I disagreed with their culture and their morals," he says. "I’m a human being, not a monster."

The media-shy former al-Shabaab commander, whose tone was, by turns, angry and indignant said al-Shabaab killed members of his family, including his son, in fighting. The family has been a target of al-Shabaab ever since he renounced violent mostly peaceful extremism.

Africa Subsaharan
Buhari, Other West African Leaders To Create Regional Force To Challenge Terrorism, Coups
[SAHARAREPORTERS] West African leaders plan to create a regional peacekeeping force in light of recent military coups.

The leaders on Sunday agreed to create a regional force to intervene against jihadism and in the event of coups.

The biggest economy in the region is Nigeria, which is led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President of the ECOWAS commission, Omar Alieu Touray, who stated this while speaking to journalists at a summit in Nigeria said that leaders of the Economic Community of West African States had decided to act to "take care of our own security in the region."

This comes after at least three nations Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
witnessed military coups in the last two years and were also suspended from the ECOWAS’ decision-making bodies, Rooters reports.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
no specific details were given as the workings of the regional force will be set by the defence ministers of the member nations who will convene in the second half of next year, said the ECOWAS president.

He added that they are determined to create a regional force which would intervene if required in the areas of security, terrorism and restore the constitutional order in member countries.

The West African nations’ leaders also expressed concern about the 46 Ivorian soldiers who have been detained in Mali and have asked the Malian authorities to release them by the end of this month. If they fail to do so, ECOWAS will impose sanctions, a West African diplomat told AFP.

The troops were detained earlier this year, following their arrival at the airport in Mali’s capital, Bamako. Ivory Coast has previously said that those troops were sent as a backup for the United Nations

peacekeeping mission in the country and has since criticised their detention.

The West African leaders have also said that they are observing the nations’ progress on restoring constitutional order and about Mali "it is essential that constitutional order returns within the planned time frame," said Touray.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog had finished eating the rat terrier...
the ECOWAS said that military leadership in Guinea should engage in dialogue with the politicians and parties in the country and work towards restoring civilian rule.

Furthermore, referring to Burkina Faso, Touray said that the leaders have expressed "serious concerns" about the ongoing humanitarian crisis following the military coup in October but also pledged support for the country.

Saudi Arabia reportedly taking away powers from official puppet ruler Rashad Al-Alimi

began transferring powers of Rashad al-Alimi, the head of Riyadh-formed Presidential Council to a Saudi military team, headed by Abdulhadi al-Maleh, who arrived in Aden late on Sunday.

The Riyadh-based Saba News Agency, reported that al-Maleh leads a Saudi team whose mission is to support the Presidential Council militarily and politically.

According to the agency, he met earlier with al-Alimi and discussed with him ways of cooperation in managing the next stage.

Saudi Arabia’s dispatch of a military team to Aden and tasked with running the affairs of the pro-government authority came on the eve of reports of an attempt by al-Alimi to rebel after Saudi Arabia refused to hand over the $3 billion grant.

Al-Alimi arrived in Aden from the UAE after reconciliation with Aidarous al-Zubaidi, the head of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), on a special plane to spray pesticides after Saudi Arabia detained his presidential plane, which left the city of Aden.

Abdullah al-Hatila, assistant editor-in-chief of the Saudi official Okaz newspaper, revealed his country’s resentment of al-Alimi’s return to Aden.

He indicated in a statement to the media that al-Alimi would not be able to achieve what he described as "the aspirations of the Yemen

Southern Transitional Council prepares to expel Saudi-backed government from Aden
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) supporters on Sunday began arrangements to expel Rashad al-Alimi, President of the Riyadh-formed "Presidential Council", from the city of Aden, southern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
This comes a day after al-Alimi arrived in the city after months of living abroad.

Activists on social media called on the STC militia to protect a demonstration that is being prepared at Ma’ashiq Palace, while others called on the Attorney General, who is affiliated with the STC, to open an urgent investigation with al-Alimi and his prime minister, Moein Abdulmalik, regarding the recent corruption scandals.

Turkey inflation slows for first time since 2021: official
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
's inflation slightly slowed in November for the first time since May 2021, official data showed on Monday.

The rate slowed to 84.39 percent, according to state statistics agency TUIK, down from 85.51 percent in October.
Even inflation has to take a break to breathe a second. Now, onward to new highs!!
Turkey's inflation has steadily risen since reaching a low of 16.6 percent in May 2021.
Once they ran out of the money confiscated from the Gulenists and the army officers accused of trying to overthrow the Erdogan government, all that swanning around establishing the neo-Ottoman sultinate got expensive fast. It’s hard on the Turkish workers and business owners, but it’s not like they really matter.
Independent economists, however, say the rate is more than twice as high.

According to a respected monthly study released by independent economists from Turkey's ENAG research institute, the annual rate of consumer price increases reached 170.70 percent in November.

at the weekend forecast that consumer prices rises would soon slow down.

"We will witness the rapid descent of inflation soon and we will see together that the dirty scenarios built on this trouble are torn and thrown away," he said.

Erdogan's government blames inflation on outside factors such as the global spike in food and energy prices caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
