Hard cases make bad law and even worse fodder for the chattering classes. Most of the so-called lessons of George Zimmerman's acquittal on charges of murdering Trayvon Martin amount to educational malpractice.
There is no war on black men, at least not by white men. Last year, the Scripps-Howard News Service studied half a million homicide reports and found that killings of black victims by white attackers have actually dropped over the past 30 years, from 4,745 during the 1980s to 4,380 during the first decade of the 2000s. There were nearly twice as many white victims killed by black assailants: 8,503 in the 1980s, and 8,530 in the 2000s. Let me get this straight, there are 5 times as many whites as blacks but twice as many blacks kill whites as whites kill blacks. I'm confused about this "Open Season" thingy.
Why isn't Stevie Wonder boycotting California? Wonder says he won't play in Florida until it "abolishes" its stand-your-ground law. But California, the state where he lives, also allows a stand-your-ground defense in murder trials.
When defendants claim to have killed someone in self-defense, California juries are instructed that "a defendant is not required to retreat. He or she is entitled to stand his or her ground and defend himself or herself and, if reasonably necessary, to pursue an assailant until the danger of [death or serious injury] has passed. This is so even if safety could have been achieved by retreating."

I live in Portland, OR so I should (technically) be used to environmentalists who are hypocrites. How are they hypocritical you ask? Well, lets see many of those who claim to be Environmentalists here in the PNW are actually hipsters who confine themselves to jobs as baristas as they are wasting their trust funds, or their parents funds, trying to figure out what to do with their shallow, pathetic existences whilst spouting loads of toxic jibber-jabber about how humans are a pox upon their precious Earth. This latest example of their hypocrisy, however, has set my blood to BOILING as it should yours. In the videos captured by my good friend Dan Sandini, also known as Daylight Disinfectant, we see a mini-van taxi, loaded forbear with Whole Foods catering-hardly the grocery store to the 99%-dropping a couple hundred dollars worth of goodies which are then loaded onto the Gallant-a $399 AN HOUR YACHT based out of Portland, OR. Why has this set my blood to boiling you ask? Why shouldnt people be able to spend their hard earned money on pleasure cruises and organic catered food? Touche dear reader, I am glad you inquired. You see when it is done by people who complain that people like myself-hard working people who have busted their tails to afford a house in a nice area of the city, who have made the choice to send their children to private schools, who WORK in order to achieve our dreams are EVIL because we support CORPORATIONS (God forbid) and live in more than 900 square feet (an unforgivable sin in their eyes)-that we are part of the DREADED 1%-yes, that makes my blood boil. Especially when everything that I have I have worked for and everything I am working for is going out to feed us in this Champ-ized economy where $103.00 no longer buys much for a family of three in the way of weekly groceries.
No, dear reader, I reject this hypocrisy and choose to show it for what it is-FOUL. So put THAT in your fossil fuel burning yachts tailpipe and SMOKE IT.

To be fair, the Gallant appears to be a motor sailer which is a type of motor yacht that can also sail. Presumably it is powered by a great big thirsty diesel engine but you can also raise the sails when you get out on the ocean with some wind. You can get quite a few partiers on a boat like that and split the cost which will make it quite reasonable.
When the first scandal hit, I just thought Weiner was a grandiose, narcissistic, entitled creep. Now it is clear he must be mentally ill as well. That he has no respect for women, including his own wife, is also clear.
She has no respect for herself, why should he?
Yet when he confessed his newest transgressions to his wife last fall, what did she do? She joined him for yet another interview, this time for the New York Times. Abedin agreed that her husband should run for mayor of New York. She knew full well that the old stories would be rehashed and, in all probability, the new ones would come out. So why did she do it?
Like I was just saying...
So why has Abedin done this? Some have suggested that her Muslim background and growing up in Saudi Arabia have skewed her views of how women should be treated. But she's been away from that for too long.
Thus demonstrating that the writer is talking through his hat...
Perhaps Weiner has changed Abedin's view of what is moral and ethical behavior. Or could it be that she's afraid of him? But neither of these fits her actions past and present. The only possibly reason I can guess for Abedin's embrace of her husband is that she wants the power as much as he does.
Ta-dah! We have a winner!
As Clinton's assistant, she has seen the limos, the planes, the salutes and the flags, and that is the life she aspires to. She thought she had it when she married the wildly ambitious, though widely disliked, congressman. She saw the Clintons get away with infidelity, and she fooled herself into thinking she and Weiner could also ride this one out.
And perhaps she saw Tony as a morally weak man she could control for the sake of the folks back home...
