BALTIMORE (AP) — Emergency personnel and the acting police commissioner were at the scene of a mass shooting in Baltimore early Sunday morning, police said.
The Baltimore Police Department confirmed there has been a mass shooting in the 800 block of Gretna Avenue. The number of victims was not immediately provided.
Acting Commissioner Richard Worley was at the scene of the shooting, police said.
There were multiple fatalities and dozens of people injured in the Brooklyn Homes area of South Baltimore and a large police and emergency medical response in the area, WBFF-TV reported.
Witnesses told the station that hundreds of people were gathered for an event called "Brooklyn Day."
A press conference with additional details was planned for later in the morning at the intersection of 6th Street and Audrey Avenue, police said.

I checked with my mother-in-law. She zeroed me in on the exact location, right by a Catholic Church where my wife and I did Pre-CANA. It was a terrible neighborhood in 88 and has, unbelievably, gone downhill. My impression is that Baltimore is one step above Paris, in that the police drive through but don’t actually police. It is called Brooklyn but the ZiIP Code is Baltimore City. It probably looks like a normal city because there will be foot police at sports events. In reality, it is the Wild West but Artemus Gordon is not the only cross dresser. She confirmed that the prosecutor is Soros funded.

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) — A woman was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) during an employment meeting with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department in Indiana, police say.
According to the Sheriff's Department, Nicole Sniadecki, 39, of Plymouth, came in just before 9 a.m. for a scheduled meeting related to an employment inquiry with the department.
Job hunting while intoxicated? That’s a new one.
While speaking with Sniadecki, Captain Jeff Snyder observed slurred speech along with an alcohol smell on her breath.
She admitted to operating a vehicle while traveling to the Sheriff's Department and consuming alcohol that morning.
Detective Lieutenant Les McFarland obtained a certified breath test, which showed a result of .158, nearly twice the legal limit.

True story: I once interviewed at a job where the owner complained that they used to have beer in the coke machine, but the insurance people made them take it out.
Worked there for a few months, til they started bouncing paychecks. And that was that.

[South China Morning Post] As millions of Taylor Swift fans in Southeast Asia lament missing out on the chance to see the star live in concert following her decision to only play in Singapore, some have blamed poor entertainment infrastructure and religious conservatism in their countries for driving her away.
The US country-pop artist is holding six concert dates in the city state next March as part of her global Eras Tour, several weeks after British rock band Coldplay also performs six shows in Singapore — the longest they will spend in any country for their Music of the Spheres world tour.
"It’s really sad that she only gets to play in Singapore. Taylor’s fan base is huge in the Philippines," said university student Kheena Thrisia Ligas, a "Swiftie" in Cebu City who cannot afford to fly to Singapore to see her idol.
Swift’s songs are massively popular in the Philippines, topping Spotify charts there for an accumulated 610 days and being crowd favourites at karaoke machines across the nation. Rumors of the demise of American cultural hegeomy may be exaggerated.

[BLAZE] New Yorkers are being plagued with swarms of flying bugs amid a smoky haze from Canadian wildfires as they head in to Independence Day festivities, the New York Times reported.
The winged menace being swatted away to little avail are aphids, experts say, not gnats, as some battling the minuscule bugs had mistakenly surmised.
Fortunately, the aphids present no health concern. Unfortunately, they present a considerable nuisance to natives and tourists alike.
Swarms this time of year are unusual, as aphids don't typically come out in New York City until after summer, Professor David Lohman, an entomologist at the City University of New York, told WNBC. Lohman theorized the warm winter could have contributed to the early arrival.
"I wanted to dodge them. One of them flew in my nose and it was not pleasant," Martin Perez, an Upper East Sider told the outlet.
No mention of drugs, but biker gangs are notorious for dealing drugs as well as enjoying violence, whether political, religio-ethnic, or just the traditional Hells Angels type.
[IsraelTimes] Haul includes 35 long firearms, 25 submachine guns, 100 pistols, 1,000 weapons components, 400 signal weapons, 10,000 rounds of ammunition, grenade launcher, Nazi memorabilia
Austrian authorities said Thursday they had seized hundreds of weapons, ammunition and Nazi memorabilia and arrested six people after raids on several premises of the right-wing holy warriorBandidoscycle of violence gang.
Police found a huge weapons stash including about "35 long firearms, 25 submachine guns, 100 pistols, over a thousand weapons components, 400 signal weapons," the interior ministry said.
The haul was made following 13 house searches in the neighboring provinces of Upper and Lower Austria carried out Monday, the ministry added in a statement.
More than 10,000 rounds of ammunition, as well as grenade launchers, were also seized, it said.
Nazi memorabilia, including daggers, flags, uniform parts, busts and pictures were also found at the homes of the suspects, who were remanded in jug.
After plans by the Bandidos MC cycle of violence group to expand to Austria were revealed in late 2022, authorities have been surveilling them.
Investigations aimed to avoid potential violent mostly peacefulfestivities between the Bandidos, which has a worldwide network of branches, and their rival Hells Angels MC, as has occurred in Switzerland ...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell... "The investigations have shown the extent to which right-wing extremism is represented in outlaw cycle of violence gangs," domestic intelligence agency (DSN) chief Omar Haijawi-Pirchner said.

[IsraelTimes] 27-year-old former voluntary police officer, accused of being ringleader, to serve 18 years; other three, one of whom was a minor at the time, given lighter terms
A Gay Paree court Friday sentenced to prison four men from a French neo-Nazi ...adherents of a philosophy that was seen even at the time as pure evil, which makes them either consciously and purely evil, or attention-seeking ratbags. Pick one, or both.... group who discussed attacks on mosques and Jewish targets in an online chat group.
A 27-year-old former voluntary police officer accused of being the ringleader got 18 years in jail, the longest term, with the judge concluding he had "an undeniable influence over the group."
Named as Alexandre Gilet, he was arrested after police learned he had ordered equipment that could be used for making explosives and was found in possession of weapons, including two Kalashnikov machine guns.
The other three, one of whom was a minor at the time, were given lighter prison terms ranging from five to three years, but are expected to serve non-custodial sentences.
Prosecutors alleged during the trial that the four men, now aged between 22 and 28, joined a private internet chat group called "Operation WaffenKraft," where talks "very quickly turned to the preparation of terrorist projects."
The Waffen-SS was the military branch of the Nazi’s elite SS corps, which was founded by Adolf Hitler ...late Fuehrer of Germany, founder of the Third Reich, currently communing with his pals Himmler and Heydrich. He is reincarnated every few days as a politician somebody doesn't like... The chat group discussed targets, including mosques as well as the headquarters of the Jewish council (CRIF) and the office of the anti-Jewish discrimination league (LICRA).
[Daily Caller] Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham was received with boos from the crowd at a Trump rally in his home state on Saturday when he went up to the podium to speak. He will learn nothing from it.
Graham was heckled on Saturday for nearly six minutes as he gave a speech at a Trump rally in the middle of appearances from other Trump allies local to the region, including Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, South Carolina Rep. Russell Fry and former Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer. The crowd appeared to be hostile to the senator, calling him a "traitor" after his off-and-on support for the former president.
"I found common ground with President Trump," Graham said during the campaign event. "It took a while to get there, folks, but let me tell you what happened. I’ve come to like President Trump and he likes himself, and we got that in common. I’m going to help him become president of the United States."

The trouble last time around was that no one ran against him in the primary. I'd hoped for Mick Mulvaney or even Nikki Haley, but all we got were three no-names (one of whom I voted for.)
And then in the general election, the Democrats put abortion-loving Jaime Harrison (who is now chairman of the DNC, which tells you all you need to know) against him. So I held my nose tightly and voted for Lindsey in the general election.
Come on, 2026! And come on, some credible Republican challenger in the primary!

[BLAZE] The Supreme Court struck down President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness on Friday — and used Rep. Nancy Pelosi's own words to bolster the ruling.
In a 6—3 ruling, the court said the petitioner in Biden v. Nebraska had standing under Article III to bring the lawsuit and then applied the so-called "major questions doctrine" to determine that student loans cannot be canceled under the the 2003 HEROES Act, the law Biden claimed gave the Education secretary statutory authority to wipe away $430 billion in student loans.
In short, the court ruled that Biden cannot cancel $430 billion in student loans using the HEROES Act because Congress never intended the law to be used that way.
"Congress did not unanimously pass the HEROES Act with such power in mind," Chief Justice John Roberts explained.
Roberts then quoted Pelosi when she declared in 2021 that Biden cannot unilaterally cancel student loans:

What is clear, is we have 3 +/- members of SCOTUS that are casting votes based solely on a "Progressive" Political agenda, and not the US Constitution.

It's a shame (for what it's worth with the likes of Mittens and Graham and McConnell) that the GOP didn't take the Senate. I would have loved to then hear the GOP talk about expanding the US Supreme Court, basically throwing it right back at the Dems. Would have been nice to see the Dems squirm.
Reminds a bit of Chuckie Schumer defending the filibuster many years ago only to recently denounce it. I think it was Tom Cotton who read Schumer's speech from the Congressional Record word for word.
[PJ] Benzodiazepines — the anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) drug class that includes alprazolam (sold as Xanax in the United States), diazepam (marketed as Valium), clonazepam (Klonopin), and lorazepam (Ativan) — are among the most widely prescribed drugs in America. Chances are you or someone in your household has a bottle in the medicine cabinet right now.
North of 30 million Americans, in fact, or about 12.5% of the U.S. population, regularly take benzodiazepines.
A recent survey of past and current benzodiazepine users has found that, even after having been off of these drugs for a year or more, a huge percentage of individuals reported persistent, severe symptoms that they did not have prior to becoming dependent.

Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. "We will have the entry of women. The National Security Council has approved this issue and a working group has been appointed for it, which is responsible for deciding how to implement it," said Mehdi Taj, president of the Football Federation Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran, IRNA reported.
The football federation, along with the ministries of the interior and sports and youth, and two intelligence agencies are now preparing a plan to implement the decision, Taj added.
"Whether or not they will come is no longer an issue. Women will be present in stadiums," he said.
Since the founding of the Islamic Theocratic Republic more than 40 years ago, women have been banned from entering sports stadiums, a practice labelled "discriminatory and cruel" by Human Rights Watch.
In recent years, Iran has allowed a limited number of women to attend select matches after FIFA demanded Tehran change its policy. Prohibiting women from attending games is against international football regulations.
