Gavin Newsom Criticizes Gun Violence in Missouri, Doesn't Mention California Has over 2X the Fatalities

On November 16, 2023, this author wrote a piece highlighting the left’s tendency to point to firearm-related homicide deaths instead of actual homicide numbers. This allows someone like Newsom to avoid mentioning Centers for Disease Control and Prevention numbers showing California had 3,576 firearm deaths in 2021 while Missouri only had 1,414.

Moreover, by focusing on “gun death rates” instead of real numbers, Newsom can omit the fact that the FBI noted that California led the nation in “active shooter incidents” in 2021.

#2 California is the most populated U.S. state, with an estimated population of 38.9 million as of 2023.

Missouri Population estimates, July 1, 2023, (V2023) 6,196,156

So, I guess >5x would be remarkable, with population volume as a determining factor and not population composition?

#4 If you remove Chicago, Detroit, DC, St Louis and New Orleans from gun statistics then the US places 189th out of 193 nations in the world. All those cities have strict gun control laws aka keep them out of the hands of law abiding and productive citizens.
