Walmart Announces Plan For Nationwide EV Charging Network
[Zero] Walmart announced plans to build out a nationwide electric vehicle fast-charging network. This initiative will support the Biden administration's 'clean energy' efforts to expand EV charging coverage.

"By 2030, we intend to build our own EV fast-charging network at thousands of Walmart and Sam's Club locations coast-to-coast. This would be in addition to the almost 1,300 EV fast-charging stations we already have available at more than 280 U.S. facilities," a Walmart press release said.

Although Walmart did not specify the exact number of charging stations it plans to construct, the retailer has roughly 4,700 US stores and 600 Sam's Club locations.

Vishal Kapadia, Walmart's senior vice president of energy transformation, noted all store or club locations are within ten miles of approximately 90% of Americans. The idea is to "meet the needs of customers and members where they live and open the road to those driving across the country," he said.

#1 EV owners shop at Walmart ?

Will the Chinese Yuan ¥ (CNY) be the only form of payment at the Walmart charging stations ?

How soon will Sam's Club stop selling gasoline? This is about EV transition, right ?

#3 Nah, they're gonna make money off this, right? Not give away 'free electricity'?

#6 Even worse, sometimes "free" can get expensive.

Except, of course, those that fall under the closure umbrella.

The magically appearing transmission lines connected to the magically not-yet-built power plants producing clean, pollution-free electricity.

#11 Just think. You could go to a Wal Mart parking lot, OD, and by the time the Narcon kicks in, your car is charged.

#13 Some thoughts:
My Walmart is five minutes away. Why would I need a recharge?
Tesla drivers don’t shop at the Walmart.
My average Walmart shopping experience is 30 minutes. How long will I need to dredge the discounted DVD septic pile, for a full battery recharge on the EV that I never intend to own?

#14 Many Walmarts are located near interstate exits. My local one for example. And you can bet Walmart will offer a deal on charging if you buy a Walmart Plus membership. They already have huge parking lots and most are located in commercial developments that are already served by more electrical infrastructure than the average residential neighborhood.

This is something Amazon has no way to compete with, short of making a big real estate and infrastructure investment.
