Online critics quickly pointed out the total appeared to include the 19 hijackers who carried out the attacks

Official figures reflect the 2,977 people who died at the World Trade Center, Pentagon, near Shanksville, Pa., and aboard four aircraft

Jayapal then deleted the tweet without explanation

She made and deleted the same tweet last year
