Netanyahu short for right-wing coalition, would need Arab support
[Jpost] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not be able to form a government, according to preliminary results from 97% of the regular polling stations reported by the Central Elections Committee unless he gains support from the Arab-Islamist Ra'am Party.

Netanyahu's bloc of Likud, Shas, United Torah Judaism and the Religious Party was found to have won 59 seats along with Yamina, two short of a majority. Ra'am's leader Mansour Abbas has collaborated in the past with Netanyahu and pro-Likud advocates are already working to legitimize the formation of a coalition with Arab support in the media.
Or, he can just subvert 2+ Jewish MK from among the 50+ of the anti-Bibi list. Place your bets, here.

#1 Bibi has been heavily courting Arab politicians... maybe to help push him over that threshold?

#2 Ra’am is the political party of the Southern Branch of the Islamic Movement, the Muslim Brotherhood in Israel. While they are pragmatic about working with whomever will get them more power, their ultimate goal is the same a the MB everywhere else — a proper Muslim caliphate — so their support is a very sharply edged sword.

But he has indeed been courting the Arab vote since the last election, trying to break the pragmatists away from their more immediately murderous brothers. Has the remaining Arab Joint List even made the cutoff to get any Knesset seats, or are they broken as a political force? I haven’t looked at the news sites yet today.

#3 Thank you for covering this for us, g(r)omgoru. When I went to sleep only 67% of the votes had been counted, and it was too soon to draw conclusions.

#5 My point is, these 59/61 pro/anti Bibi blocks exist only in journos minds. There are plenty in "anti-Bibi" block who'll remember that "their duty to their voters" is to be in the government when Bibi makes the right offer.
