#1 I once tried to debrief a patient who truly believed aliens had implanted a radio transmitter in his brain. He was a "regular" at the ER where I was practicing. He had no idea what day this had happened, even what year, how the aliens got whatever it was inside his skull, what the radio might have been made of, how big it was etc. This was not what he expected me to say, and by the end of my questions he was looking at me like I was crazy...

#2 Extraterrestrial myths can easily foster the tool of fear, media distraction, establish lingering questions about religious faith, and create the impetus for scientific investigation and government funding grants.

Did I mention....'distraction' from actual issues and effective problem solving ?

Do not discount their usefulness.
