#3 Here they are again, trying to dictate what private businesses should or should not sell, in case anyone thought they would stick to just the firearm issue.

Stupid on a number of levels. Mentioned, this barn done burned down, foundation broken up, and grass planted years ago. That goofy ap where people put dogs noses and crap on their live-chat? Facial recognition. Hell, there is an ad where facial recognition is a selling point as it unlocks the security.

Amazon is a bazaar, not a product. Honestly, why a police force would go through Amazon for FRS instead of dealing straight with the company (installation, technical advice, training) is beyond me.

FRS is going to follow the same trend, if not faster, as security camera hardware - the market will continue to grow competition and increase in quality while the price point/options will decrease to where even small businesses with a shoplifting problem will be able to evaluate FRS as a theft prevention option.
*Dude just lifted $200 some dollars of product. Uploads face info to database. 'This is Dirk McStickfingers. Lives at such and such. Age, weight, record. Ah, violent offender charges to consider. Would you like to upload video to DA's office? Yup. Would you like AutoConfirm when entering store? Yup, put a pin on him. Dirk comes back in. #4 Technology marches on. Spare processing power. Spare storage to store images. Spare bandwidth to actually have images to process. The concept was there decades ago and the technology is here now -- stop clutching your pearls and get off of the fainting couch.

#9 Tell me the technology isn't there where a couple of those real nice cameras they used to photograph all the attendees at a super bowl, and you could look up individuals by entering their seat number, couldn't be interconnected and have a patrolman in virtual 3D space almost live-patrol an area, with names, little markers popping up on potential people of interest. "Hmm, this guy is acting strange, computer position me at first contact, play 3x speed. *follows* *suspect places backpack down, leaves* Computer mark this subject, pinpoint current location, dispatch 2 security medium awareness possible bomb. Dispatch plain cloth to inspect backpack at this location. Backpack looks full, computer show dimensions of backpack. *shows* Yeah, right shape, right size for a pressure cooker. Computer, send bomb tech to assist plain clothes."

ACLU worried about FRS; should be, if they were true to their charter and not a bag of tools, is the harvesting of information gathered from around a household - PEDs and phones with at least audio, smart TVs with the built-in skype, computers as well, plus whatever potential bugging devices can be inserted into a home. Maybe got a good floor plan with furniture if a roomba. Sinc all that up using location, direction, and timestamp and one could do a virtual search and eavesdrop.
