#4 It would be natural if the pilot realized all is lost and the end was near. Don't think there's anything to see here.

#5 I would have rather heard something like 'REAR STABILIZER LINKAGE - REAR STABILIZER LINKAGE'... or something like that. Much more helpful to investigators, and the flying public.

#6 Why would context matter? Pilot or someone in the cockpit decided to take the plane to hell.

#8 We don't know the context. He may have realized the plane was about to hit and preparing himself for death which would be a perfectly acceptable use of the phrase.

#12 Friend of mine in the USAF decades ago used to be the one to send radio commands to the pilots in the air, among other things. He joked that a copy of the "Our Father" was taped to the back inside cover of his manual, for use in case all else failed.

#15 I would have rather heard something like 'REAR STABILIZER LINKAGE - REAR STABILIZER LINKAGE'... or something like that. Much more helpful to investigators, and the flying public.

They are way too interested in what happens to them when they die to worry about useful stuff like this.

These were airline pilots, not test jockeys.

P2K is right - "Sweet Jesus, I'm coming home" isn't going to be in the lexicon.

You want unnerving - try listening to a tanker captain praying on the radio in Greek before a missile takes out his bridge.

#17 The French pilots that went into the drink several years ago (Air France 449?) said, seconds before the crash, "This can't be happening", but they said it in French, of course.

#19 During the Tanker War Pappy?

Yes.

Another time: Two tankers under attack by Iranian small craft in the same area. Both captains broadcasting on marine-band at the same time.

One, a Greek captain (again), did nothing but screaming and pleading for them to stop.

The other, a Brit, sounded like an announcer at a cricket match: described the boats, their tactics and maneuvers, how many Iranians he could see aboard each, what they were dressed like, where the RPGs were hitting his ship, etc.

So yeah, one can do the test pilot-thing - but you have to have the creds to begin with.

#20 Saying the linkage is broken would be helpful but it assumes that under pressure the pilot or copilot were able to figure out where/what the problem was.

I'd assumed many of them are barely told how to fly, let alone handle an unexpected emergency.

#21 This story originally appeared before they had the black box. They still have not released anything from the black box yet. I doubt it has even been opened yet.
