#2 Not necessarily. There are some girls still being born. They are bearing (many) children, so life goes on.

#3 Rural India, mostly backwards and uneducated Tribals. From the description, the men sound like Muslims. Considering the writers lack of detail, hard to say.

Two hours drive from New Delhi, you have Bagpat and Baghpat, adjacent to each other. One is in Uttar Pradesh, the other in Haryana. In India, life is cheap.

Too many people, too much corruption an too much illiteracy.
