President Obama has commuted the 35-year prison sentence of Chelsea Manning, paving the way for the army intelligence analyst turned high-profile leaker to be freed on May 17, the White House announced Tuesday.
Manning was on a list of 209 commutations and 64 pardons released Tuesday, though they may not be Obama’s final acts of clemency before he leaves office at midday on Jan. 20. Edward Snowden’s name was not on the list.
Manning was convicted after leaking U.S. military incident logs and diplomatic cables, among other secret government documents, to WikiLeaks, in 2010.
In his final scheduled briefing for reporters, White House press secretary Josh Earnest described Manning and Snowden in starkly different terms.
“Chelsea Manning, as a member of the United States armed forces, went through a legal proceeding administered by the United States military under the laws that govern the conduct of members of the United States military, and there was a hearing and a conviction and a sentence,” Earnest said. “It all went through that regular process. And that’s the way we determine guilt or innocence in this country, particularly with regard to the conduct of men and women in our armed forces. And that’s the way that our system works.”
But Snowden “should return to the United States and face the serious crimes with which he’s been charged,” Earnest said. “He will, of course, be afforded the kind of due process that’s available to every American citizen who’s going through the criminal justice process. But the crimes that he’s accused of committing are serious. And we believe that he should return to the United States and face them rather than seeking refuge in the arms of an adversary of the United States that has their own strategic interests in disseminating information in a harmful way.”
Earlier this week, WikiLeaks said on Twitter that its founder, Julian Assange, would agree to be extradited to the United States if Obama granted clemency to Manning. He has been living in Ecuador’s embassy in London since June 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he has been accused of sexual assault.

This was an easy call; I think Bergdahl and Blago get commutations / pardons as well. I don't think Hillary! or Snowden get them, although what Snowden and Manning did aren't all that different.
Remember all the media mea culpas after the election, about getting this thing and that thing all wrong and vowing to fix all of that? Complete fucking horseshit.
In the month leaded up to the election on November 8th, we repeatedly demonstrated how the mainstream media polls from the likes of ABC/Washington Post, CNN and Reuters repeatedly manipulated their poll samples to engineer their desired results, namely a large Hillary Clinton lead (see "New Podesta Email Exposes Playbook For Rigging Polls Through 'Oversamples'" and "ABC/Wapo Effectively Admit To Poll Tampering As Hillary's "Lead" Shrinks To 2-Points"). In fact, just 16 days prior to the election an ABC/Wapo poll showed a 12-point lead for Hillary, a result that obviously turned out to be embarrassingly wrong for the pollsters.
But, proving they still got it, ABC/Washington Post and CNN are out with a pair of polls on Trump's favorability this morning that sport some of the most egregious "oversamples" we've seen. The ABC/Wapo poll showed an 8-point sampling margin for Democrats with only 23% of the results taken from Republicans...

Given the fact that we have had stories about Obumble still being over 50%, people were warming to Trump but now the numbers are horrible and pretty much every other poll the Ministry of Truth puts out... anyone who believes this shit is either a true believer or lying.
At least 39 people have been shot across Chicago over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, leaving 10 dead.
The latest killing happened at 11:36 a.m. Monday in the West Side Austin neighborhood, where a vehicle pulled up to 24-year-old Allante Elmore on a porch near his home in the 4800 block of West Hubbard, and shot him repeatedly, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died.
Let's go for 900 in 2017!

BLUF: [City Journal] Indeed, one irony of the 2016 election is that identity politics became a lethal boomerang for progressives. After years of seeing America reduced to a binary universe, with culpable white Christian males encircled by ascendant noble minorities, gays, feminists, and atheists--usually led by courageous white-male progressive crusaders--red-state America decided that two could play the identity-politics game. In 2016, rural folk did silently in the voting booth what urban America had done to them so publicly in countless sitcoms, movies, and political campaigns.
In sum, Donald Trump captured the twenty-first-century malaise of a rural America left behind by globalized coastal elites and largely ignored by the establishments of both political parties. Central to Trump’s electoral success, too, were age-old rural habits and values that tend to make the interior broadly conservative. That a New York billionaire almost alone grasped how red-state America truly thought, talked, and acted, and adjusted his message and style accordingly, will remain one of the astonishing ironies of American political history.
[Daily Caller] A known quantity in the faking department is Rev. Al Sharpton. In a video that gets considerable play on TV, Sharpton informs a rapt audience that "white folks" were cave dwellers when blacks were building empires and pyramids; teaching philosophy, astrology and mathematics. "Socrates and them Greek homos" were mere copycats, aping black civilization.
As revealed in "Helping The Sharpton and Obama Afrocentrism ’Fade to Black,’" this mythistory has a presence in America’s schools, tertiary and secondary.
By now we know that mass media and government under both national parties routinely generate fake news to achieve political ends. That our progressive pedagogues propagandize the youth: That’s well-known and passively accepted, too. Less known is the extent to which fabricated history has been incorporated into curricula.
In "Black Athena," Martin Gardiner Bernal of Cambridge, England, suggested that "Ancient Greece" had been "fabricated," and that chroniclers of "classical civilization" had concealed its "Afroasiatic roots."

At one point in the 1980s my boss at the time, who had grown up with the Martin Luther King, Jr. kids in Atlanta, mentioned such "facts" matter-of-factly in conversation. So this nonsense has been taught for a long time. But the teachng also conflates Egyptians with sub-Saharan Bantu -- hence the "Afroasiatic" terminology.

Lefkowitz in Cambridge, on C-SPAN in 1996, back when such an event didn't necessarily provoke a disruptive shitshow. I probably watched this at the time, not that I remember it, possibly within hours of ogling Kellyanne Fitzpatrick doing morning viewer call-ins or whatever.

The last bit in the quoted part of the article uses Afroasiatic, presumably as a way for black historians to piggy-back on Egyptian and Phoenician? successes.

Strange. Whatever happened to all the African writings of the era? Or the libraries, cities, infrastructure, roads, etc.. Did the white man burn them all down?
(Washington D.C.) Project Veritas has just released a new video which uncovers a group known as the DC Anti-Fascist Coalition actively plotting criminal activities to disrupt President-Elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. These activities likely violate multiple criminal laws.
A Project Veritas journalist was invited by email to a DC Anti-Fascist Coalition meeting, which took place at a residence in Washington D.C. The discussion centered around disrupting the “Deploraball”, a large pro-Trump event at the National Press Club in D.C. scheduled the night before the inauguration.
“It would be really something if we could stop them from having the Deploraball at all,” one activist says in the video.
After the initial meeting, the Project Veritas journalist joined the group at Comet Ping Pong, a pizza restaurant that is better known as the location of the Pizzagate controversy last year. The coalition members discuss the steps they would need to take to halt the Deploraball event.
The DC Anti-fascist coalition members present were Luke Kuhm, “Scott Green”, Colin Dunn, and Casey Webber.
“If you had a pint of butyric acid, I don’t care how big the building is, it is closing…” says Luke Kuhm. “And this stuff is like very efficient, it’s very very smelly and it lasts a long time. A little bit goes a long way,” Scott Green explained.
They continued to discuss how to get butyric acid into the ventilation of the building and other ways to stop the event. Besides using butyric acid, the group considered activating sprinklers or setting off fire alarms in hopes of forcing the guests outside of the building where they would be confronted by protesters. The above paragraphs from the Veritas link found here.

My prediction: local cops, rather than breaking out the grapeshot, will stand down so as not to "escalate the confrontation". Chemical chaos and property damage ensues. The media blames Trump.
The F-35 stealth fighter jet suffers from hundreds of problems and won't be fully combat-capable before 2020, says a scathing report from the Pentagon's top evaluator. New issues keep cropping up, and fixing them all may cost over $1 billion. Given the history of this thing, make that over 4 billion
Dr. Michael Gilmore's damning assessment is part of the massive annual report for fiscal year 2016, and his 62-page dossier devoted to the F-35 paints a grim picture of America's much touted, futuristic Joint Strike Fighter. The program, which began in 2001, was supposed to deliver a fifth-generation jet serving the needs of the Air Force, the Navy and the Marine Corps, achieving savings through a modular design. Instead, it is 70 percent over initial cost estimates and years behind schedule.
Dr. Gilmore, the Pentagon's director of operational test & evaluation (OTE) under President Barack Obama, is leaving the Department of Defense as part of the regular change in politically appointed officials. Though F-35 officials have continued to insist the jet is doing just fine and that the problems found in operational testing were being fixed rapidly, Gilmore's final report makes it clear that he doesn't believe their reassurances. Sounds like the lot of them need thrown in jail for fraud
"The Services have designated 276 deficiencies in combat performance as ‘critical to correct' in Block 3F, but less than half of the critical deficiencies were addressed with attempted corrections," says Gilmore's report, referring to problems in the F-35's software. "Deficiencies continue to be discovered at a rate of about 20 per month," the report added.
"Much more testing is needed to assess the cybersecurity structure of the air vehicle and supporting logistics infrastructure system," the report says, "and to determine whether, and to what extent, vulnerabilities may have led to compromises of F-35 data."
Worse yet, the program is trying to skip many of the tests and declare the systems development phase over early, shifting the testing to the Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (IOT&E) process starting in August 2017, the report noted. Rushing the tests means shifting the risks onto operational testing, follow-on modernization, and to the pilots intended to fly the planes into combat. Their greed and desire to cover their butts will get our people killed. Again.
The F-35 program office "has no plan to adequately fix and verify hundreds of these deficiencies using flight testing within its currently planned schedule and resources," Gilmore wrote.
"Multiple problems and delays make it clear that the program will not be able to start IOT&E with full combat capability until late CY18 or early CY19, at the soonest," meaning 2018 and 2019, respectively. Finalizing the systems development phase would cost around $500 million, Gilmore noted, adding that the Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation office's estimate ranged up to $1.125 billion.
In addition to software trouble, the jet is plagued by structural problems. For example, the connection between the vertical tail and the airframe is wearing out much faster than expected, while arresting hooks are fraying after only one use. Engine nacelles are overheating under certain flight tests, horizontal tail continues to suffer heat damage, and the "excessive, violent" oscillations during catapult launches of the naval F-35C version present a safety concern for pilots.
Tests of the pilot escape system showed a risk of serious neck injury or death for pilots weighing less than 136 pounds (61kg), who remain restricted from flying the F-35. The jet is SEXIST AGAINST WOMEN!!!
On the maintenance side, technicians are required to physically connect the Portable Maintenance Aid (PMA) laptops to the aircraft in order to conduct most activities. If the PMA fails to connect to the aircraft properly and technicians unplug it prematurely, the laptop cannot connect to another aircraft until it is reset by an Automatic Logistics Information System (ALIS) administrator, "which can be a lengthy process."
Given all that, the Department of Defense should consider committing to a "block buy" of the jets, since in their current state the F-35 does not fit the legal requirements and the Pentagon's "fly before you buy" approach to purchases, Gilmore's report concluded.
The F-35 is a single-seat, single-engine aircraft that comes in three versions: the F-35A for the Air Force; the F-35B for the US Marine Corps; and the F-35C for the US Navy. It is being developed by Lockheed Martin, with additional funding from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom and Turkey. Israel and Japan have also placed orders for the jet. Cancel the goddamn thing, make the companies that built it eat the costs, jail the project managers and just build more F22s and a bunch of fucking drones.

skip many of the tests and declare the systems development phase over early,
Anyone who has worked in IT knows that tune. When the schedule starts to slip the first thing to go is testing...then documentation.
Then you do a limited roll out with 2 screens and a report and declare it a victory before starting in on phase 1B ... or 1C ... or 1D whichever is appropriate where you will try and fix it.
Of course the new phase requires a new functional specification...............................and Willie goes round in circles.

You can't always blame the company. After 8 years of the Obama regime, this may be the fault of the Obama transvestite cronyism or the Muslim influence and "contributions" of that element of his pentagon.

Dr. Gilmore, the Pentagon's director of operational test & evaluation (OTE) under President Barack Obama
That's all I needed to see to know this is FAKE NEWS!
Seriously, the implications are that these are major problems. My spidey sense tells me these mostly small, easily fixed problems. This is Obumbles using a crony to cause more hate and discontent.

You can bet the Israelis told Lockheed Martin to erase the logistics software and just leave the stuff that lets the pilot fly the dammed thing.
I still say it might be a good airframe but all of the technobullshit they piled into the thing to make it a flying automatic parts retrieval system is killing it.
I would bet an audit of the program would show that the vast majority of the developmental cost went to trying to fix that logistics and maintenance wetdream they cooked up to make it easier to maintain.
Easier to maintain? The thing can't fly because of the software.
[Breitbart] Internet-based retail giant Amazon is among the seven online food retailers that will soon start accepting food stamps, as part of a pilot program instituted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The two-year program, set to launch this summer, will test online ordering and payment methods.
The USDA, which oversees the $74 billion food stamp program, also known as SNAP or the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, says it plans to expand the online program nationwide and eventually add more retailers.
Participating retailers include Safeway, ShopRite, Hy-Vee, Hart’s Local Grocers, and Dash’s Market, and will serve food stamps recipients in seven states: Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, Iowa, and Oregon.
However, Amazon is by far the largest online food distributor participating in the federal government’s new program.
"Amazon is excited to participate in the USDA SNAP online purchasing pilot," the Seattle, Washington-based company said in a press release. "We are committed to making food accessible through online grocery shopping, offering all customers the lowest prices possible."

Consider it another US dole currency laundering scheme. Amazon wants to capture some of the Paypal instant banking business.
Buy with FS, then cancel for online credit or cash refund. Amazon accounts receivable can sit on the interest bearing FS transaction until the G. reconciles.

You can order food - real, basic food - through Amazon, and they deliver. Actually could be quite helpful to people without transportation or with mobility problems. Not saying that's how they would be used, but ... is it any worse than the food stamp 'laundering' that goes on in poor neighborhood convenience stores now? But with cheaper food?

Deacon, you have hit upon the real issue. This isn't a bad thing at its core, BUT, it is a wide open door to graft and corruption on another epic scale.
This can help some people that are in dire straits like your youngest brother but the slugs and slime will rapidly get on board the gravy train.
Been there done that with a similar gov't program. It took about a month before the cheat sheets were showing up in the hood.
It was founded more than century ago as a refuge for Jewish American golfers being discriminated against, but now a Maryland country club is facing its own exclusion row over whether to admit Barack Obama.

Lazy reporting. The club's head wanted to offer Obama a free membership. Members are balking at that:
http://washingtonjewishweek.com/35902/woodmont-country-club-urged-to-offer-obama-membership/news/local-news/ Politico reported this summer that Obama was interested in joining the club because it does not have a history of discriminating against minorities and because it would waive its $80,000 membership initiation fee and $9,673 in annual dues.
[Ron Paul Institute] Every American who looks at the CIA objectively or in a balanced way and judges it by any number of criteria, such as moral, legal and pragmatic, should reach the conclusion that the CIA should be abolished. JFK wanted to break it into a million pieces. Trump is right to dismiss its intelligence reports about DNC hacking. The CIA war on Trump shows us immediately that the CIA is a rogue organization within the U.S. government and a severe threat to America. I'd settle for an aggressive top tier culling.
The CIA is an internal threat to the rule of law and to the government that it supposedly serves. Senator Schumer acknowledges the CIA’s unbridled power, its subversive power, its power to undermine even a president, especially one that wishes to control or alter the organization, when he says:
"Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you. For a practical, supposedly hard-nosed businessman, he’s being really dumb to do this."
Schumer is saying that the CIA is so powerful that a president should not attempt to control it or else! The CIA is so powerful that elections do not matter when it comes to the CIA. The CIA stands alone. The Constitution that empowers the president as the Executive, the boss of government operations, does not matter. Basic American institutions and laws must bow before the threats that the CIA possesses. This is the assessment of a Senator beginning his 4th term and who is the highest ranking Democrat in the Senate in his post as minority leader.
The CIA is an organization that perpetually undermines traditional American values and moral values. It consistently kills innocent people. It continually causes instability and wars. It undermines other societies and our own. It interferes constantly in foreign nations, to the detriment of them and us. It is an unelected power that challenges elected officials. It favors abuses of power, including torture. Its actual value at generating usable intelligence is minimal, often wrong, often misleading, inaccurate and harmful as in the WMD that were never found in Iraq.
Except that WMD were found, labelled as pesticides. But the lie continues.
[Wash Times] The Obama administration signed a law-enforcement agreement with Cuba Monday that doesn’t call for the return of U.S. fugitives, including former Black Panther Joanne Chesimard, who is wanted for killing a New Jersey police officer.
The pact was signed by Jeffrey DeLaurentis, the de facto U.S. ambassador in Havana, and the Cuban Interior minister Julio César Gandarilla. It covers a broad range of law-enforcement topics, such as counternarcotics operations.
Also present at the signing was White House deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, who played a key role in forging Mr. Obama’s policy of restoring diplomatic ties with Cuba in 2014.
The agreement does not include a return of U.S. fugitives that Cuba has harbored, including Chesimard, also known as Assata Shakur. Convicted of murder for the shooting death of New Jersey state trooper Werner Foerster in 1973, she escaped prison in 1979 and received asylum from Cuba. The omission of fugitives from the agreement was first reported by USA Today.
Cuba’s shielding of Chesimard and other U.S. fugitives, including Puerto Rican nationalist William Morales, wanted for the 1975 Fraunces Tavern bombing in New York City that killed four and wounded 50, has been a source of friction between the two governments for decade.

The only good news is that these people are condemned to remain in Cuba. If we had a CIA that was any good at all we'd be spreading a rumor of their subversive activities against Raul...

[PJ] On the third Monday in January, Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi celebrate a public holiday, but they don't just commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. These three states also remember Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Arkansas Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson, however, has made a controversial effort to cut Lee off from the holiday.
"I think this provides our state an opportunity to bridge divides," Hutchinson told the Associated Press (AP). He has vowed since early last year to make the change, and has presented it as part of his agenda for the legislative session which began last week.
Arkansas has celebrated Lee's January 19 birthday since 1947, and King's January 15 birthday since 1983. In 1985, the legislature voted to combine the holidays.
Lee remains one of the most magnetic figures of the Civil War. He chose to fight for the Confederacy despite his personal desire for the country to remain intact, and despite a tempting offer from the Union's military. His prowess kept the South in the war far longer than expected, and earned undying respect among both North and South.
Nevertheless, there has been a nationwide re-evaluation of monuments and symbols from the Civil War and the Confederacy in particular. After the 2015 shooting at Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, pundits started attacking the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia, commonly known as the "Confederate Flag."
[Breitbart] Eight people were wounded‐one critically‐after a gunman or multiple gunmen opened fire during a Ja. 16 rally in Miami celebrating Rev. Martin Luther King, say multiple news reports.
The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. near Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park.
NBC 6 reports the wounded range between 11 years in age and 30. The two youngest victims were girls who were 11 and 13-years old. They were grazed by bullets and treated at the scene.
The Pan-African & Caribbean Family Festival was being held to honor MLK when the shots rang out.
WISTV reports that "two people were taken into custody" and "two weapons have been secured." Other reports to do not indicate that the two were arrested. Rather, they suggest they may have simply been detained for questioning.

Read Tom Wolfe's ""Bauhaus to Our House" for the inside story on this architectural movement. It was meant to be worker housing for the communists.

Le Corbusier broke everything down into what he called the modular. It was a scale of harmonic measures that set architectural elements in proportion to human scale. ThE problem with this is if something is designed for an individual it will only fit that individual. It works to a certain point. Frank Lloyd Wright used modular schemes in most of his designs but they were geometrical, i. e., 5x3, and not tied to any particular individual.

[AnNahar] At least two people were killed in a suspected suicide kaboom on a university campus in northeast Nigeria ... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border... , a local resident, a lecturer and emergency services told AFP on Monday.
The blast happened at 5:25 am (0425 GMT) at a mosque in the staff quarters area of the University of Maiduguri and is thought to have been carried out by a teenage girl.
Suspicion will likely fall on the Islamist group Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... , which has repeatedly used young women and girls as human bombs to target worshippers.
There were reports locally of a separate kaboom but details were not immediately available.
"At exactly 5:25 am, while I was leaving the mosque in my neighbourhood, I heard two kabooms," said one local resident, who asked not to be identified. "I rushed to the university, which is not far from my house. On entering, I saw the mosque in a mess. Three people lay dead, including a maiden, whose body was badly mutilated.
"Thirteen other worshippers were maimed."
A university lecturer who lives on site confirmed the resident's account.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) tweeted: "A #bomb went kaboom! at the #mosque at the University of #Maiduguri during early morning prayers. Rescue operations ongoing..."
Access to the university campus has been strictly controlled, with checkpoints and searches at the gates. But the site, on one of the main thoroughfares leading in to and out of the city, is vast and most areas are badly lit.
Witnesses say two bombs have went kaboom! at Nigeria's northeastern University of Maiduguri, killing five people.
One student said the first blast destroyed the mosque where professors were saying dawn prayers and many are feared among the victims. A university worker said the second bomb went off at an entrance gate. Both spoke on condition of anonymity for their safety.
Police front man Victor Isuku confirmed Monday's kabooms but said rescuers are still ferrying the maimed to hospitals and evacuating bodies, making it difficult to give a toll.
Maiduguri has been attacked many times but this is the first attack on the university blamed on Boko Haram.
Boko Haram has said it was behind Monday's twin suicide kaboom at a university in north eastern Nigeria which killed two people.
A video featuring an audio recording purporting to be leader Abubakar Shekau ... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fired by the Caliph and refused to step down ... was posted on social media late on Monday. Rooters was unable to verify if the voice was indeed his.
"The bomb that went kaboom! on Monday morning, it's our brothers responsible for it," the recording said.
A professor at the University of Maiduguri and a child were killed and 17 people maimed in a twin suicide kaboom, officials said on the day of the attack.

[AnNahar] Three hard boyz were killed in an overnight shootout with soldiers in a village in Indian Kashmire, an army front man said Monday.
Rajesh Kalia said troops cordoned off the village near the tourist resort of Pahalgam after receiving a tip that fighters were hiding out in a private home there.
"On specific intelligence army soldiers cordoned off the village on Sunday evening and the shootout started," Kalia told AFP.
"Three gunnies have been killed. Their bodies and weapons have been retrieved."
A local police officer said soldiers using mortar fire had destroyed the house.

After the wall fell, only 25% of Germans admitted to hating Jews in a poll, the lowest ever recorded. In those days such ideas were considered ignorant. That was before the "educated" left gave it the figleaf of anti-Zionism. Now fire bombing a synagogue is an understandable expression of distaste for Israel daring to defend itself.

But they are also part of EU efforts to support -- through donated supplies and funding -- Palestinian settlement building efforts in the West Bank, blatantly ignoring Israeli requests for consultation first; labelling settlement products to facilitate boycotts; and other anti-Israel efforts they position as being the kind of feedback friends give to those who have not learnt the lessons of the Nazi era as they have.
[Ynet] ISIS has grabbed credit for a shooting attack it said killed a Jordanian soldier earlier this month.
The U.S.-based SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors Lion of Islam internet traffic, on Tuesday quoted the IS news agency Amaq as saying that an IS "security detachment" killed 1st Sgt. Bassam Hourani in the southern Maan province Jan. 6.
Good to know, especially as we seem to have missed it when it happened.

[YNETNEWS] The Shin Bet and the IDF arrested 13 Hamas activists in the West Bank overnight Sunday, including a member of the Hamas Palestinian Legislative Council.
During the operation, security forces found and confiscated thousands of shekels, a vehicle and Hamas propaganda material.
In recent weeks, the Shin Bet exposed, also together with the IDF, a widescale Hamas infrastructure operating in Ramallah and the Binyamin region in which the headquarters of the organization were discovered.
The headquarters, consisting of an eight-tier hierarchy made up of dozens of activists, worked to strengthen Hamas’s grip in the West Bank as an organization and influential element throughout the area.
Among a range of activities, the Hamas headquarters operated through social and economic channels and provided economic support to prisoners, families of terrorists and Hamas student cells.
Moreover, the headquarters disseminated Hamas propaganda material and sponsored rallies.
They were were continuously financed, according to the Shin bet, by Hamas officials abroad and in the Gaza Strip.
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian teen was rubbed out Monday evening during festivities with Israeli security forces in the southern West Bank, the Paleostinian health ministry said. The IDF said the shooting occurred during a "violent riot" in which Paleostinian hurled rocks at security forces in the Bethlehem-area village of Tuqua, near the settlement of Tekoa in the Etzion Bloc.
"Due to the extent of violence, Border Police fired 0.22-caliber rounds toward the main violence instigator, resulting in his death," an army spokeswoman said.
The Tuqua municipality identified the youth as 17-year-old Qusay Hussein Umour. The Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy, quoted by the Ma’an news agency, said Umour was detained by Israeli forces after being shot three times, and only handed over to the Paleostinians for medical treatment after he had died.
[Ynet] Security forces have tossed in the slammer Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! 17 wanted suspects in the West Bank involved in terror and nationalistic activities and disruption of public order against civilians.
It was also reported that in a separate operation, thousand of shekels were found which, according to intelligence information, were received from terror organizations.

[BREITBART] Spanish officials say police have locked away Please don't kill me! a Moroccan boxing coach suspected of heading a cell that spread propaganda and recruited holy warriors for the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. The Interior Ministry said the man arrested Monday in the northern city of San Sebastian had ties with another suspect arrested in Strasbourg, La Belle France, on Nov. 20. He also had shared an apartment in San Sebastian with man later arrested in Morocco, who was suspected of receiving instructions from IS members for carrying out attacks in Europe.
The statement said the Moroccan arrested Monday had been active since 2010 and used his job as boxing coach to recruit marginalized youths for jihad activities.
New recruits would be sent to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... where they would receive training and instructions for potential attacks in Europe, it said.

[AA.TR] The Afghan government on Sunday dismissed a top official responsible for reaching peace deal with the Taliban.
Abdul Hakim Mujahid, deputy chairman of the High Peace Council (HPC), was relieved of duty after he was blamed for publicly labeling the Taliban as "angels of peace".
Mujahid caused uproar last week when he also denounced a number of former Afghan leaders including former president Najibullah, Burhanuddin Rabbani ... the gentlemanly murdered legitimate president of Afghanistan... and Ahmad Shah Masoud.
Mujibur Rahman Rahimi, front man for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said Mujahid would no be longer at the HPC, confirming that the action was taken after Mujahid's remarks.
A day earlier, the Presidential Palace condemned Mujahid. "The government would not allow any one misuse the freedom of speech to name the murderers of children and women, those who damaged places of worship and public properties, as ’angels of peace’," said a statement from the Palace.
For his part, Mujahid rejected all the allegations. The former Taliban-era diplomat said he just quoted former president Rabbani who named the Taliban "angels of peace" before the Taliban emerged to power. Mujahid was a member of the Taliban until 2010. He was the Taliban’s envoy to Pakistain and the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... during its rule in Afghanistan between 1996 and 2001.

[All Africa] A video of a girl been raped by six men in Puntland ...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion... making rounds on social media has caused an outrage across the country. The video shot and posted by the perpetrators on their Facebook accounts shows a naked girl in her teen age crying for help as a group of boys force themselves into her. The girl is beaten up and a bleeding wound can be seen on her back.
She is heard pleading "Leave me alone please" in Somali when one of the boys chocked on her neck. The boy lets her lose then demands her to be on her four limbs and threatens to stub her.
The girl refuses to be in that position and is forced on to by one boy. The incident reportedly took place at Galdogob Puntland near the Æthiopian border.
"The suspects have been tossed in the calaboose Book 'im, Mahmoud! by Galdogob and will be brought justice" Hassan Mohammed Ayax Commissioner Galdogob told Radio Dalsan.
One perpetrator is said to have escaped arrest and a manhunt has been lauched led by the Puntland Police boss.
Elders from the girls family and that of the perpetrators are been in involved in an arbitration. The incident has also been condemned by religious leaders in Puntland with activists on social media demanding for justice.
"I can't believe that humans are capable of committing such a horrible and cruel act" Alinor a Mogadishu based youth activist tweeted.
"Its for sure that this little girl will live with the scars and trauma of such a heinous criminality" he added.
"I am shocked. No stones should be left unturned in this case. All suspects must face the law. It is time that we put an end to such unbecoming character from our youth and the best way to set an example by punishing the perpetrators" Mohammed Ajib Director CCA told Radio Dalsan.

[al-Manar] Units of Yemeni army and Popular Committees fought off Sunday night two major advances by the Saudi-led coalition militiamen in Shabwa province from Asilan side.
A Yemeni military source stated that the aggression militiamen tried to advance from two axes under heavy aerial coverage by the Saudi-US aggression warplanes.
The source confirmed that “a large number of the aggression mercenaries were killed or wounded in Asilan,” adding that “the dead bodies were left on the battlefield.”
“The militiamen crawl lasted for hours and was covered by more than 10 air strikes, four of them threw cluster bombs,” the source said.
[FOXNEWS] A man on the FBI’s 10 most-wanted list for allegedly killing two men in Milwaukee was nabbed Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! Sunday in Texas after spending nearly six months on the lam, authorities said.
Terry A.D. Strickland, 24, was arrested in El Paso and booked into jail. He had been charged in Milwaukee on two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Strickland was among a group of man arguing in front of a Milwaukee home July 17, authorities said. Witnesses saw him go inside the house, emerge with a gun and fire into the small crowd. Authorities said Strickland shot and killed Maurice Brown Jr., 38, who was on the ground, then turned to Michael Allen Reed, 39, and shot him in the head.
"It was vicious," Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said when Strickland was added to the FBI's most-wanted list last month. "It was unnecessary. Neither individual posed the slightest threat to Mr. Strickland, but they paid with their lives for occupying the same space."

I'm sure there must have been other issues with Mr. Strickland to get him 10MW-ed. There many, many people that have done worse, longer, to more.
Strickland was added to the FBI's most-wanted list last month
Two weeks ago?
I wonder if maybe he didn't make the list immediately after they found him.
[HUFFINGTONPOST] Fighting between Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... and the Syrian army has killed dozens since Saturday in Deir al-Zor, where the holy warrior group has launched an assault to capture a government enclave in the city, a monitoring group reported.
At least 82 people have been killed in the fighting, which is the heaviest in the city for a year, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Monday.
The dead comprised 28 from the army and allied militia, at least 40 Islamic State fighters, and 14 civilians, the British-based monitoring group said.
Syrian state news agency SANA said the army had killed dozens of Islamic State fighters in attacks on the group’s positions around Deir al-Zor.
Islamic State has held most of Deir al-Zor and the surrounding area since 2015, but the government has retained control of the airport and neighboring districts in the city, located in eastern Syria on the Euphrates river.
A U.S.-backed coalition of Kurdish and Arab militias and rival Turkish-backed Syrian rebel groups have pushed Islamic State from much of its territory in northern Syria, but it remains embedded in the country’s eastern desert and Euphrates basin.
Last month it recaptured the city of Palmyra, 185km (115 miles) southwest of Deir al-Zor, from the government in an unexpected advance that demonstrated its continuing military threat.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The so-called National Salvation Front in Syria, an anti-Syrian government group comprising of mostly Syrians in the diaspora, have proposed a "roadmap" for closer relations with Tel Aviv, the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on Monday.
SANA explained that the "roadmap" would be to recognize Israel, come to a compromise on the Golan heights that Israel currently and has illegally occupied since 1967, establish ties between the two states, and dismantle all Paleostinian resistance forces in Syria.
This corresponded with Fahd al-Masri, the group’s front man, to call for Tel Aviv to support the anti-government turbans, through a set of audio and video messages.

[All Africa] al-Qaeda-linked group An Nusra has offered to help in the search for South African photojournalist Shiraaz Mohammed, who was apparently kidnapped by gunnies as he was leaving Syria.
That's according to South African-based aid organization, Gift of the Givers.
"The An Nusra people said they have an interest in the case and will assist in the search for Shiraaz," Gift of the Givers CEO Imtiaz Sooliman said on Sunday, as concerns mount over the safety of the missing lensman.
Mohammed was on his way out of northern Syria and headed for the Turkish border on Tuesday, 10 January, when two cars boxed him, and two Gift of the Givers workers, in as they drove past the Al Hilal Hospital in Aljamiliye Road.
The Gift of the Givers driver hooted at them to move, but instead gunnies got out of the cars and put a gun to the heads of two Gift of the Givers workers, and looked at Mohammed.
They said there seemed to be a "misunderstanding" and that they needed to question him about it.
They drove away with the three, blindfolded, and when they eventually stopped, asked questions.
They asked if Mohammed was a foreigner, had a passport, and a Moslem, which the captives confirmed.

[LATIMES] Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... met with Martin Luther King III on Monday, a holiday commemorating the life of King's father, which this year was marked by Trump’s quarrel with Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a hero of the civil rights struggle.
King, the oldest surviving child of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., described the meeting at Trump Tower as constructive and said it had centered on efforts to improve the voting system.
A lot of us could go along with that, if Mr. King is serious about cleaning up the system.
Asked by news hounds about Trump’s characterization Saturday of Lewis as "all talk ... no action," King said he "absolutely" disagreed.
"I would say John Lewis has demonstrated that he is action," said King. But, he added, "Things get said on both sides in the heat of emotion. And at some point in this nation, we’ve got to move forward."
King said that Trump told him that he intended to represent all Americans.
"I believe that’s his intent," King said. "I believe we have to consistently engage with pressure, public pressure."
And, maybe sir, a little cooperation...

[ALMASDARNEWS] Abdul-Karim Mahmoud, mayor of the town of Annah, said the clearing of western Anbar from ISIS turbans had been delayed due to bombs and landmines planted by the group at the entrances of Annah, as well as the existence of hundreds of civilian families at residential areas, IraqiNews reported.

[DAILYCALLER] Speaking at an interfaith event at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center (ISBCC) in mid-December, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren told a crowd of 2,600: "Now is a time when we must be willing to say loud and clear there is no room for bigotry anywhere in the United States of America -- none."
Ironically, the very room at the largest mosque in New England where she was making her speech has been the site of some of the most vicious religion-driven bigotry in Boston. A newly unearthed video reveals that when the politicians leave and the media cameras are no longer rolling, the ISBCC mosque serves as a forum for supporters of convicted Al Qaeda gunnies who use the mosque to call for jihad against America and demand that Moslems fight to bring this nation "to its knees."
On September 24, 2011, the ISBCC hosted an event, titled, "Reclaiming Power and Protecting Our Communities," which featured families of several convicted gunnies and Islamist hate preachers, who accused the B.O. regime of a broad conspiracy to falsely convict and imprison American Moslems as part of a general war against Islam. Among the examples given at the at the ISBCC event were no fewer than twenty-two U.S.-based individuals convicted of material support for Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

[Ynet] Fuel from Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates... arrived in the Gazoo Strip on Monday, helping ease a crippling power shortage that has sparked rare demonstrations against the territory's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers who responded with a crackdown on protesters.
Gazoo's power authority said the Qatari-bought diesel would double the amount of power provided to Gazook households.
The coastal strip has been experiencing the worst electricity shortage in years, limiting Gazooks to about four hours of electricity per day. The added fuel will grant homes power for about eight hours a day, and Hamas said another ally, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... , is expected to supply Gazoo with more fuel.
[Libya Observer] The commander of the Third Force that is securing the southern region, Jamal al-Triki, said fuel and cooking gas arrived in Sabha oil stock, pointing out that the operation was secured by the Third Force personnel.
Talking to the press, al-Triki said Monday that the fuel started arriving in the city on last Saturday while the trucks loaded with cooking gas cylinders have resumed the journey to Sabha this morning.
"The road between Misrata and Sabha is safe. There are no security violations on the road. The Third Force secured the fuel tanker trucks from Misrata to Sabha oil stock." al-Triki added.
He also denied what he called the rumors that said the Third Force prevented the trucks laden with gas cylinders and fuel to enter the southern region, stressing that it was some fighters of Mohammed Ben Nayel’s force who set up checkpoints on some roads that lead to the south and then stopped the trucks and disallowed them to reach southern oil stocks.
Libya’s southern districts have been suffering from an acute shortage of fuel and cooking gas for days due to the hurdles put in the way of the trucks disallowing them to arrive to the oil stocks.

[ALMASDARNEWS] ISIS-affiliated Amaq News Agency has announced that it has successfully split the government-held pockets of Deir Ezzor in two.
The terrorist group are now besieging the military air base that has been separated from the city.
To successfully besiege the military base, ISIS has relentlessly been sending in jacket wallahs to weaken the Syrian Army defences.
Over 40 Syrian air strikes was not enough to divert the waves of ISIS attacks.
The cemetery is still under Syrian Army control and if ISIS do not quickly capture it, they remain susceptible to a counterattack and ending the siege.
Meanwhile the Syrian Army continue to repell the ISIS offensive on the southern axis in Panorama and al-Mohandesin, whilst Syrian air strikes continue to target ISIS positions on Mt. Tharda.
The civilian areas of al-Qossour and al-Joura are being targeted by indiscriminate ISIS shelling resulting in the death of one woman and her daughter being injured.
It has been estimated that as many as 14,000 ISIS fighters are participating in this operation to capture Deir Ezzor from government forces.
Meanwhile, ...back at the alley, Slats grabbed for his rosco... ISIS has promised a house and a wife in Deir Ezzor for every fighter who participates in the battle.
As a government enclave in the middle of ISIS territory, the Syrian Army serves as a thorn in the back and diverts many ISIS fighters from other fronts such as djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... in Iraq.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Hashim Karzai, the cousin of former Afghanistan's Caped PresidentHamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai ... A former Baltimore restaurateur, 12th President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in an attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use... , has succumbed to injuries he sustained in a deadly bombing in Kandahar last week.
Sources close to the victim’s family have said Hashim died of his wounds while receiving treatments in a hospital in India.
Hashim Karzai was a trader and his death has been confirmed by the provincial government.
Over 10 people bit the dust including five UAE diplomats after explosives planted in governor’s guesthouse went off last Tuesday.
No group including the Taliban gunnies has so far grabbed credit behind the incident.
The Taliban group rejected their involvement in the attack and blamed the local officials for having internal disputes that led to the incident.
However, it's easy to be generous with someone else's money... the Afghan security officials said the attack was plotted outside the country as an investigation is underway.
A delegation of the UAE officials have also reportedly arrived in Kandahar to probe the deadly incident.
The kaboom last Tuesday took place as the UAE ambassador and diplomats had visited the province for the inauguration of a humanitarian project.

[DAWN] An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday sentenced a mother to death in a case of 'honour killing' for burning her daughter alive in June 2016 after she contracted a 'free-will marriage'.
18-year-old Zeenat Rafiq of Lahore's Factory Area was set on fire by her mother Parveen Bibi more than a week after the girl reportedly eloped with Hasan Khan to marry him before a court in Lahore.
Parveen Bibi had earlier confessed she had murdered her daughter for "bringing shame to the family".
Police had suspected that Parveen was helped by her son and son-in-law in killing the girl.
ATC-IV judge Chaudhry Muhammad Ilyas on Monday sentenced Parveen to death in the 'honour killing' case, and sentenced Zeenat's brother Anees to life in prison. Zeenat's sister's husband was acquitted in the case.
It was revealed in court that Zeenat's mother and brothers had first beaten her, then her mother threw kerosene on her and set her on fire.
Parveen in court today claimed the credit for Zeenat's death.
Zeenat's husband, Hasan Khan last June had agreed to let his wife return to her home after her family promised, in the days before her murder, to organise a traditional wedding reception for the couple.
He earlier told the media that Zeenat was not willing to go back to her parents’ home because she feared they would kill her. "But she agreed after her family gave assurances regarding her safety," he was quoted by a TV channel as saying.
Witnesses had told Dawn that they had alerted the emergency rescue service after they saw smoke coming out of Parveen’s home.
"Police and rescue firefighters reached the spot, put out the blaze and recovered the body of the girl," a witness had said earlier.
After Zeenat Bibi was set on fire in a low-income neighbourhood of Lahore, none of her relatives sought to claim her body, police said, leaving her husband's family to bury her charred remains in the dark in a graveyard near the city.Mother sentenced to death for 'honour killing' of daughter Zeenat Bibi

[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: Though police are still investigating the child maid abuse case, initial statements of the judge and his wife recorded after the compromise with her parents claimed that they had paid Rs42,000 in advance for keeping her at their home.
Additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife in their statements recorded on January 3, the day when ADSJ Raja Asif Mehmood Khan and another ADSJ Atta Rabbani confirmed her pre-arrest bail and handed over the custody of Taiba to her parents, also claimed that they had been the girl’s guardians since she was seven-and-a-half years old.
The judge’s wife in her statement also said the girl was living in the servant quarter of the house.
However, there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly... before the Supreme Court, Mohammad Azam, the father of Taiba, 10, testified that he had received Rs18,000 from a woman who provided his minor daughter as a maid to the ADSJ on August 14, 2014, against Rs3,000 per month.
Denying all the charges of torture, the judge and his wife in their statements said a few neighbours allegedly hatched a conspiracy against them. The couple said they had kept the girl on a humanitarian basis due to poverty of her parents.
In initial statements, judge and his wife said they had been Taiba’s guardians since she was seven
The judge and his spouse were booked after the minor girl accused them of keeping her in a wrongful confinement, burning her hand over a missing broom, beating her with a ladle, detaining her in storeroom and threatening her of even worse.

[Hurriyet Daily News] In the district of al-Giza al-Bahriya in Libya’s Sirte, the sea breeze mingles with the stench of corpses decomposing under the rubble.
The coastal neighborhood was the last part of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIS) north African bastion to fall to unity government-allied forces on Dec. 5 after nearly seven months of fighting.
Two weeks later, many residents of Sirte are unable to return to their homes - those that are still standing.
"We fear an epidemic," said Ahmad Bala, a commander of pro-government forces, who sat in a 4x4 and wore a mask to block the stink.
"The situation in al-Giza al-Bahriya doesn’t allow residents to go home. Dozens of corpses are still under the rubble. The smell is horrible and there is a risk of catching diseases," he said.
Forces allied with Libya’s Government of National Accord were supported by the United States, which hammered the district with air strikes until it announced an end to its Sirte operations on Dec. 20.
Bala said ISIS jihadists and their families hid in tunnels to escape the bombing.
"They were found trapped. Men, but also women and kiddies who died of hunger and thirst under the rubble," he said.
"We don’t have the capacity to extract the bodies or demine the area, which was stuffed with bombs" by ISIS, he said.
In al-Giza al-Bahriya’s central square, three corpses lie in black bags on the ground, largely ignored by passers-by.
"The [Libyan] Red Islamic Thingy pulled them out of the rubble two days ago. They put them here and left," said Mohammed, another pro-government fighter.
"We shouldn’t blame them. They have no resources."
At a roundabout a few hundred meters away, barely a building is left standing. The area has become a wasteland of concrete and scrap metal.
Containers block the main arteries of residential areas along the sea front, the most affected by the fighting, "to prevent onlookers from approaching," Bala said.
The town still lacks mobile phone and internet connections within a 100-kilometer (60-mile) radius.

[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] It's a free country, and the nineteen (and counting) members of Congress who are planning to boycott President-elect Trump's inauguration are certainly within their rights. So even is Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., who said over the weekend that Trump's election (or his presidency) is "illegitimate."
That doesn't make his comment true or honorable or helpful to the nation's well-being, but he is free to say it.
Reps. Lewis, Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., Barbara Lee, D-Calif., Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and the other inaugural boycotters are certainly not alone in finding Trump uniquely awful. They are not alone in believing the president-elect has gone out of his way to offend people. Probably they also recognize that, in the safe districts they all represent, an inaugural boycott might even be a political winner.
But this is also part of a pattern. Lewis and Lee, along with some other Democratic politicians at the time, also boycotted to make a point when President George W. Bush was inaugurated in 2001. The Washington Post reported at the time that Lewis "thought it would be hypocritical to attend Bush's swearing-in because he doesn't believe Bush is the true elected president."
Maybe they had a better excuse that time, as there was so much lingering acrimony surrounding the Florida recount. But we're talking about elected members of Congress who have refused to accept two Republican presidencies in a row. Is there always a good enough excuse whenever a Republican wins? At what point is it fair to ask whether some people are just not committed to democratic or legal processes at all unless the results come out as they hope?

The Progs should just adopt "ConservativeHitler" as their war cry.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Staff Lieutenant General Abdulghani al-Assadi, a high ranking commander in Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) announced late on Monday that around 90% of eastern djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... has been liberated from ISIS.
He explained that intense festivities are still occurring between the CTS and ISIS fighters.
Once the entirety of eastern Mosul is liberated, Iraqi forces will begin to concentrate their attack on western Mosul, in which the Tigris river separates the two portions of the city.

[HEATST] Milo Yiannopoulos’ event at UC Davis this weekend with pharma bro Martin Shkreli didn’t go as planned. It was canceled amid a storm of protest and fears that Milo’s appearance would cause violence to escalate on campus. UC Davis’ College Republicans, who sponsored the program, were contacted by the University’s police department and student affairs officials who advised them to nix the controversial event.
So while Milo, the alt-right provocateur, was nowhere to be seen, his wingman Shkreli still showed up outside the building where the event was supposed to take place and approached some protesters. He was pelted with feces in short order. La Belle Frances Wang of Sacramento’s ABC 10 captured footage of the fecal attack.
The video shows the exact moment Shkreli -- who first achieved notoriety when he bought the rights to a lifesaving HIV drug and jacked up the price astronomically -- was pelted in the face with feces (probably dogs’ droppings, not human excrement), with a protester calling him a "piece of sh*t."
Protesters heckled any Milo’s supporters who were there and other prospective attendees with chants calling them "bigots," "fascists," and "racists." Per an ABC 10 report, most of the protesters were not in fact UC Davis students. The protests began peacefully, but quickly escalated into violence as protesters jumped the barricades set up by campus police. The news station confirmed that one anti-Milo protester threw hot coffee at its camera crew and their equipment.

Campus administration and police sided with violent demonstrators to deny free speech. They should have called the National Guard to suppress the demonstrators.

I dunno, this Shkreli guy should have had shit slung at him when he was testifying in front of congress about why he jacked up prices of an important med.
He's a complete poster child for Wall Street.
Milo needs to choose his "wingmen" more carefully.
[Hurriyet Daily News] The mass shooting at an Istanbul nightclub on New Year’s Eve was carried out professionally with the involvement of an intelligence organization, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said Jan. 16.
"It appears the Reina attack was not just a terrorist organization’s act, but there was also an intelligence organization involved. It was an extremely planned and organized act," Kurtulmus said during an interview.
Meanwhile, ...back at the Hubba Hubba Club, Nunzio wondered: Where the hell was Chumbaloni? And where was his $600?... Police suspect that the money was the amount to be given to the assailant of the Reina attack, daily Hurriyet reported.
Police reportedly determined a house in Silivri which was used by the suspected attacker in the Reina attack, Ebu Muhammed Horasani, the code name of Uzbek Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Police raided the address and found 150,000 dollars in the house on Jan. 15.
Police also claimed the money was the amount to be given to Masharipov, who was allegedly unable to obtain the money due to the intense police hunt.
Security forces said the attacker conducted the attack for money, not ideological reasons.
Meanwhile, ...back at the Hubba Hubba Club, Nunzio wondered: Where the hell was Chumbaloni? And where was his $600?... police reportedly revealed the connections of 20 suspects who were detained in the Aegean province of Izmir with alleged links to the Reina attacker, one of whom was the Istanbul leader of ISIS.
Police have focused on the possibility that the Reina attacker and ISIS’s regional leader could be in the same cell after the investigation of phone conversations.
The testimonies of suspects who were detained in Izmir have also raised suspicions.
Izmir police said one of the suspects repeatedly insisted he was Syrian even though he was heard to be speaking with a Moroccan accent.

They keep saying an intelligence organization was behind it, implying the CIA. But given clandestine support of ISIS by the Erdogan governent in recent years, coupled with the same government giving Chinese Uighurs Turkish passports for the purpose of trans-shipment to ISIS and Turkey-supported anti-Assad Turkish groups as cannon fodder, it seems highly likely this was entirely an own goal.
[BBC] The main suspect in the New Year's Eve attack on an exclusive nightclub in Istanbul has been placed in durance vile Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! , Turkish media report.
Abdulkadir Masharipov is believed to have mounted the attack on the Reina club in which 39 people were killed. The Uzbek national is said to have been caught in Istanbul's Esenyurt district.
He's being transferred to the police station in a Baltimore paddy wagon...
So-called Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... said it was behind the attack, saying it was Dire Revenge for Turkish military involvement in Syria.
The gunman arrived at the club by taxi early that Sunday, before rushing through the entrance with a long-barrelled gun he had taken from the boot of the car. He fired randomly at people celebrating the new year.
Turkish media say the suspect rented a flat in the central Turkish city of Konya with a woman believed to be his wife and two children. He arrived in Istanbul on 15 December, according to the Hurriyet newspaper's sources.
It was the culmination of a huge police manhunt: a raid on the Istanbul suburb of Esenyurt that finally caught the alleged Reina attacker, named as Uzbek national Abdulkadir Masharipov
Photographs show him with a heavily bruised face, wearing a grey T-shirt and being held by his throat.
Police reportedly found the suspect along with his four year-old son at the home of a Kyrgyz friend in the city. Turkish media say that his friend was also detained, along with three women.
According to the Hurriyet newspaper, he was due to undergo medical checks before being taken in for interrogation at a police headquarters.
The reports add that police also carried out raids on other suspected IS krazed killers..

BLUF: [Dissent] Black Lives Matter is not a rejection of King and the civil rights movement but an extension of their radical legacy. Those who demonize one while romanticizing the other would benefit from studying both a little more deeply. Just because a movement isn’t popular, doesn’t mean it isn’t working.
Some 300 U.S. Marines landed in Norway on Monday for a six-month deployment, the first time since World War Two that foreign troops have been allowed to be stationed there, in a deployment which has irked Norway's Arctic neighbor Russia.
Officials played down any link between the operation and NATO concerns over Russia, but the deployment coincides with the U.S. sending several thousand troops to Poland to beef up its Eastern European allies worried about Moscow's assertiveness.
Marines from Camp Lejeune in North Carolina landed a little after 10 am CET (0900 GMT) at a snow-covered Vaernes airport near Trondheim, Norway's third-largest city, where temperatures were reaching -2 degrees Celsius (28 degrees Fahrenheit). U.S. troops are to stay in Norway for a year, with the current batch of Marines being replaced after their six-month tour is complete.
A spokesman for the Norwegian Home Guards, who will host the Marines at the Vaernes military base, about 1,500 km (900 miles) from the Russian border, said the U.S. troops will learn about winter warfare.
"For the first four weeks they will have basic winter training, learn how to cope with skis and to survive in the Arctic environment," said Rune Haarstad, a Home Guard spokesman. "It has nothing to do with Russia or the current situation."
In March the Marines will take part in the Joint Viking exercises, which will also include British troops, he added.
The Russian Embassy in Oslo did not immediately reply to a request for comment by Reuters on Monday. It questioned the need for such a move when it was announced in October.
"Taking into account multiple statements of Norwegian officials about the absence of threat from Russia to Norway we would like to understand for what purposes is Norway so ... willing to increase its military potential, in particular through stationing of American forces in Vaernes?" it told Reuters at the time.
A spokeswoman for Norwegian Ministry of Defence also said the arrival of U.S. Marines had nothing to do with concerns about Russia.

Obama is just pissing off Russian because he can, Three more days...
Trump moves the Overton window again, and masterfully so. See below for a clinic on how he does it:
In an explosive interview with German newspaper Bild and The Times of London, Trump unleashed a volley of verbal attacks on Europe, hailing Britain’s decision to leave the European Union and saying more countries were going to quit the bloc.
“I said a long time ago — that NATO had problems. Number one it was obsolete, because it was, you know, designed many, many years ago,” he said. “Number two — the countries aren’t paying what they’re supposed to pay. I took such heat, when I said NATO was obsolete. It’s obsolete because it wasn’t taking care of terror.”
Trump states the obvious -- the elephant in the room. He then points out that he took heat for saying it but that's he right. Not only is all that true, but it now sets up the argument.
With fears growing in Europe over the US President-elect’s commitment to the transatlantic alliance and over signs he will pivot towards Russia, Merkel warned that the continent now had to take responsibility for itself.
Bingo! That's the point that Trump wanted to deliver. If he had said that it wouldn't have worked, but he got Merkel to say it for him.
“We Europeans have our fate in our own hands,” Merkel told reporters in Berlin when asked about Trump’s criticisms, adding that she will work towards getting the EU to strengthen the economy and fight terrorism.
Why yes, Angela, that would be useful wouldn't it? Trump couldn't say it any better -- get your economy going again and stand up to the thugs invading your country.
Germany’s foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Europe was stunned by Trump’s remarks on NATO, just five days ahead of the billionaire businessman’s inauguration as president.
Europe was indeed stunned, as people are when you point out that the Emperor is buck-nekkid...
“The interview statements of the American president-elect ... caused, indeed here in Brussels, astonishment and agitation,” Steinmeier said as he went from a meeting with NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg to talks with EU counterparts.
Precisely what Trump wanted. No need to pour oil on the water unless it's fuel grade and you intend to light it off...
France’s top diplomat Jean-Marc Ayrault said “the best response” to Trump’s comments was “the unity of Europeans”.
That would be nice, useful and absolutely novel...
NATO said it was “absolutely confident” that the US would remain “committed” to the organisation.
Until tomorrow's tweet...

With all the Islamists President Hussein has imported, we will have our own hands full here for decades to come...

Fuck Europe. Let them choke on their own stink. They freeloaded on us, laughed at us for being such morons to spend our money on defense, and looked down on us for being violent redneck morons who worship the flag and George Washington like good little fascists. They demanded our troops get out. For decades now. They finally get what they wanted all this time, and NOW they're bitching and moaning about it? Europe is getting what it asked for, an America that's going to stop playing world police.
I finally really begin to understand just what anti-Americanism really means. It doesn't mean pro-social justice or pro-equality or any of those things. It just means find out what the Americans are doing and take the opposite view.
If the Americans want to dominate Europe, then that's bad and we need to criticize it. If the Americans want to go home and disband NATO, then we need to criticize that, too. It's such a hateful ideology, but I guess we Americans deserve it. We're bad people. We need to stop oppressing the world, and under Trump that's exactly what we're going to do.
#5
For background on how anti-Americanism developed, I highly recommend the late French philosopher-journalist Jean François Revel's book by the same name. An easy read -- he writes in the American style by choice -- but he makes it clear that prejudices dating back to before the colonization of the continent and class prejudice have much more to do with stated beliefs than actual facts. At one point it was available in a Kindle version, but now only on paper and audio, for some reason.

It's astounding to me the comments I'm getting from my Very Liberal Friends over this. Not too long ago they were complaining about how much money we were wasting by keeping a military presence in Europe. Now that Trump is saying the Europeans need to do more the narrative is, "Trump wants to abandon Europe to his Pal Putin".

Read somewhere this morning that when the Germans cut their nuke program and began sucking on the Russian natural gas pipeline war between the two became nearly impossible. So if Germany is going to go along with Russia on everything for fear of the lights going out what is the point of of NATO?
tl;dr version:
1. Not too long ago, Germany did have a national leader, Gerhard Schröder, who in essence ended up as a paid agent of Vladimir Putin. After leaving office, he has spent much of the rest of his career working for Gazprom
2. It was Schröder who made the decision to take Germany off nuclear power and also to make the country energy-dependent on Russia
3. Germans today are some of the most anti-American people in Europe, and that doesn’t help the Atlantic alliance either.
Suspected militants on Monday killed two police officials in different areas of Quetta.
"Unknown miscreants opened fire at a police constable in the Killi Deba area of Quetta," said police officials. They added the constable died on the spot.
In another incident, suspected militants opened fire near the Passport Office area and killed another police official on duty.
The attackers managed to escape from the scene in both cases, with police officials terming the incidents as acts of target killings.
Both attacks took place with in a span of two hours.
The bodies were taken to Civil Hospital Quetta for postmortem.
Balochistan has been experiencing incidents of violence and targeted killings for over a decade. The largest province of the country by area, is home to a insurgency by ethnic Baloch separatists.
Al Qaeda-linked and sectarian militants also operate in the region. The province shares borders with Afghanistan and Iran.
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has said “safe zones” funded by the Gulf states should have been built inside Syria to combat the refugee crisis.
“I think we should have built safe zones in Syria,” said Trump in response to a question asking if he still viewed German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s policy on refugees as “insane,” a phrase he had used during his campaign.
“Would have been a lot less expensive,” Trump said in an interview with the U.K.’s The Times and Germany’s Bild newspapers.
“Uh, get the Gulf states to pay for ’em who aren’t coming through, I mean they’ve got money that nobody has,” he said, adding that Merkel had made a “big mistake.”
Turkey has long argued for the need for a “no-fly” or “safe zone” zone along its Syrian border, with the aim of clearing Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants from the border and stemming a wave of migration that has fueled tensions in Europe. But Western allies have so far balked at the idea, saying it would require a significant ground force and planes to patrol, marking a major commitment in such a crowded battlefield.
That's right, it would be substantially expensive. You can pay for it in Syria or you can pay for it in Germany and Norway, but either way, you're going to pay. Trump is right. Again.

not one Muslim migrant should come to the West. We have our civilisation and they have theirs. They are not compatible.
Any that move out of the region should go to one of the 56 muslim nations of the OIC. There are 56 countries to choose from all of which share Islam and thus the very different value system, and different degrees of sharia.
they can stay in the region and the muslims can pay for it. Their problem.

An explosion occurred in Turkey’s southeastern city of Diyarbakir, the NTV channel reported Jan. 16. Reportedly, the blast occurred in the city’s Sur district, where the Dicle University campus is located.
The number of policemen killed by the explosion in Diyarbakir’s Sur district has reached four, and other two policemen are injured, the Milliyet newspaper reports. The number of the injured people has reached nine, NTV reports. The condition of the injured people is serious.
According to preliminary reports, the explosion was caused by an explosive device installed on the roadside near the campus of the Dicle University. The blast occurred when an armored police car was passing by.
According to Milliyet, several policemen were stuck inside the car mangled by the explosion. Employees of the Emergency Situations Ministry and firefighters are working at the site.
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) One policeman was killed and four others were wounded Monday when a suicide bomber blew himself up near a checkpoint in Khales, Diyala.
A statement by the the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the forces foiled a wider-scale attack after they discovered the approaching suicide attacker and chased him away before he blew up himself.
Despite the casualties, the statement praised what it described as “vigilance” and “improved performance” which the foiling of the attack reflected.
Violence surged in Iraq with the emergence of Islamic State militants who took over large areas of the country in 2014. Baghdad has been witnessing almost daily bombings targeting civilians and security personnel.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) says violence in the country had left 19000 casualties in nine months of 2016.
Observers believe Islamic State have begun to escalate attacks outside the city of Mosul, where the group has been losing ground and personnel since October, so as to relieve pressure by government forces on that front and to divert attention from group losses.
While losing Mosul could be the severest blow to the group’s existence in Iraq, some observers believe attacks outside the province prove that the extremist group can still pose a security threat.
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Diyala Police Command announced on Monday conducting a proactive operation in the areas south of Baqubah, in order to chase the Islamic State’s cells in the area.
Spokesman for Diyala Pollice, Col. Ghalib al-Attiyah, said in a press statement, “Joint security forces carried out a proactive military operation to search the areas south of Baqubah.”
“The operation covered the areas of al-Qatoun, al-Muradiyah, al-Sih and al-Ayt south of the province, on the banks of Diyala River,” Attiyah explained.
“The operation was conducted to protect civilians and chase the sleeper cells of the Islamic State,” Attiyah further added.
Large areas of the province of Diyala was captured by the Islamic State extremist group, and still witness several acts of violence.

A senior commander of the Taliban group was killed along with at least 20 other militants during the counter-terrorism operations in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Sunday.
According to a statement by MoI “In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police launched four Counter-Terrorism joint operations to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.”
The statement further added that the operations were conducted in Kapisa, Parwan, Oruzgan and Khost provinces.
“As a result 21 armed militants were killed including a senior commander of armed Taliban,” MoI added.
According to MoI, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds of ammunition and an explosives-laden vehicle during the operations.
The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.
This comes as the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are busy conducting their annual counter-terrorism operation to suppress the insurgency activities of the militant groups.
The annual, Shafaq, military operation was launched in response to Taliban’s spring offensive which was launched earlier in April this year.
The security officials are saying that the annual ANDSF operations aim to eliminate the key leaders of the anti-government armed militant groups.
Public health officials from Nevada are reporting on a case of a woman who died in Reno in September from an incurable infection. Testing showed the superbug that had spread throughout her system could fend off 26 different antibiotics.
"It was tested against everything that's available in the United States … and was not effective," said Dr. Alexander Kallen, a medical officer in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's division of health care quality promotion.
The woman in Nevada was cared for in isolation; the staff who treated her used infection control precautions to prevent spread of the superbug in the hospital. Chen and Randall Todd, a health department colleague, told STAT testing was done to look for additional infections, but so far none have been detected.
[Dr. James] Johnson [a professor of infectious diseases medicine at the University of Minnesota and a specialist at the Minnesota VA Medical Center] said it's likely, though, that other people in the US are carrying similar bacteria in their guts and could become sick at some point. "It's possible that this is the only person in the US and she had the bad luck to go to India, pick up the bad bug, come back and here it is, we found her and now that she's dead, it's gone from the US. That is highly improbable," he said.
"People have asked me many times ‘How scared should we be?' … ‘How close are we to the edge of the cliff?' And I tell them: We're already falling off the cliff," Johnson said. "It's happening. It's just happening ‐ so far ‐ on a relatively small scale and mostly far away from us. People that we don't see … so it doesn't have the same emotional impact.''
At least seven civilians were killed in an explosion in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan earlier today.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the incident took place in Pachiragam district, targeting a vehicle carrying civilians.
MoI further added at least two civilians also sustained injuries in the incident.
Condemning the attack in strong words, MoI said “The enemies of peace and stability committed another unforgivable and shameful crime in Nangarhar province.”
The Ministry further added “Today early morning, a roadside bomb which was placed by enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan hit a civilian vehicle in the Bargholi village, Pachiragam district of Nangarhar province.”
No group including the Taliban insurgents has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in east of Afghanistan but the anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents and ISIS loyalists are active in some of its districts.
Taliban militants and insurgents belonging to other militant groups are frequently using Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and government officials.
However, in majority of such attacks, the ordinary civilians are targeted as the anti-government armed militants are accused of incurring the most casualties to the civilians.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said late in October last year that the mission has documented 8,397 conflict-related civilian casualties (2,562 deaths and 5,835 injured) between 1 January and 30 September, representing a one per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2015.
Ground engagements remained the leading cause of civiliancasualties, followed by suicide and complex attacks, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), UNAMA said, adding that the anti-Government Elements caused 61 per cent of civilian casualties – 1,569 civilian deaths and 3,574 injured (5,143 total civilian casualties).
[al-Manar] A total of 18 terrorists of the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) takfiri group were “neutralized” in northern Syria over the last 24 hours as part of the ongoing Operation Euphrates Shield, the Turkish military said Monday.
Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply the extremists in question were either killed or captured.
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said a total of 180 ISIL targets including shelters, defense positions, command control centers, weapons and vehicles were hit with tanks and multiple-launch rocket launchers.
Separately, Turkish jets destroyed 8 other ISIL targets including headquarters and vehicles used by the terrorists in air raids on al-Bab region, the statement added.
The Turkish army is supporting Free Syrian Army fighters in liberating Al-Bab from the ISIL group. Monday marks the 146th day since the city was surrounded in order to liberate it.
The operation is part of the Turkish-led Operation Euphrates Shield, which began in late August to improve security, support coalition forces, and eliminate the threat along Turkey’s border using gunmen of the so-called ‘Free Syrian Army’ backed by Turkish artillery and jets.
In total, 43 landmines and 2,933 improvised explosive devices have been defused since the start of the operation on Aug. 24.

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi army’s Counter-Terrorism Forces invaded on Monday al-Shurta district in eastern Mosul, pushing closer towards victory in operations against Islamic State militants in that region.
The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the forces invaded the district backed by army tanks.
The recapturing of Mosul, Islamic State’s last stronghold in Iraq, has become “a matter of time”, Iraq’s Federal Police commander, Raed Shaker Jawdat, said earlier.
Islamic State has lost control over its fighters, and is sustaining defeats everywhere in the city, Jawdat was quoted by Sputnik News as saying.
On Sunday, Iraq’s military statements said government joint forces had retaken 80 districts in the city’s eastern section, accounting for 90 percent of neighborhoods at that region.
The recent recapture of Mosul University campus, an outstanding Islamic State bastion, had made a remarkable impetus to the advancement of the forces. The university overlooks some of the remaining districts on the targets list.
An Iraqi army lieutenant, Haider al-Sedi, was quoted by Anadolu Agency as saying that Iraqi forces became close to announcing the recapture of the whole eastern region of the city. He added that the remaining districts within IS control in that region were within the forces’ firing reach, and only contain a few militants after many had fled.
Iraqi forces, backed by US-led advisors and fighter jets, as well as popular militias, launched operations to retake Mosul last October. The conflict has forced nearly 178.000 civilians to flee homes.
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army forces recaptured on Monday two of the last few districts in eastern Mosul that remain under Islamic State control.
Joint operations commander in Nineveh, Lt. Gen. Abdul-Amir Yarallah, said in a statement that the forces recaptured the districts of al-Kindi and Qayrawan north of the eastern section of Mosul.
Federal Police said earlier Monday they invaded al-Shorta neighborhood.

Iraqi forces capture mosque in Mosul Prolly need to resupply with ammo, so what better place...
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi joint security forces managed to liberate the mosque of Nabi Yunus (The Prophet Yunis) in the city of Mosul, as well as raising Iraqi flag over it, a source told Alsumaria News on Monday.
The source said in a press interview, “Military troops of the Counter-Terrorism Service managed to liberate the mosque of Nabi Yunus in central Mosul, and raised Iraqi flag over its building.”
In 2014, the Islamic State group blew up the mosque that was built on the burial site of the prophet Yunis (Known in the Bible as Jonah) after storming the city of Mosul.
Earlier today, We Are Coming Nineveh Operations Command also announced liberating al-Jamasa neighborhood and raising Iraqi flag over its buildings.
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Commander of Nineveh Operations, Major General Najim al-Jabouri, announced on Monday, that Iraqi army’s 16th brigade destroyed 17 booby-trapped vehicles belonging to the Islamic State, after liberating the areas in the northern axis of the city of Mosul.
Jabouri said in a press statement, “Security forces from the army’s 16 brigade managed to destroy 17 booby-trapped vehicles belonging to the Islamic State, after liberating the areas of al-Kindi, Qayrawan and al-Arabi, in the northern axis of Mosul.”
“Security forces were also able to confiscate seven caches of weapons belonging to the Islamic State in the neighborhoods of Qayrawan and Kindi,” Jabouri added.
Noteworthy, second phase of the battle to liberate the city of Mosul was launched in October 29, 2016, to retake the remaining areas of eastern Mosul.
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Nineveh Operations Command announced on Monday, that 25 members of the Islamic State were killed and four headquarters were destroyed in the liberation operations of the northern axis of the city of Mosul.
Commander of operations Maj. Gn. Najim al-Jabouri said in a press statement, “Troops of the army’s 16th brigade managed to kill 25 members of the Islamic State, as well as destroying four headquarters belonging to the group in the neighborhoods of al-Arabi and al-Kindi, in the northern axis of the city of Mosul.”
Noteworthy, second phase of the battle to liberate the city of Mosul was launched in October 29, 2016, to retake the remaining areas of eastern Mosul.
MOSUL, IRAQ: Iraqi forces battling the Daesh group in Mosul on Monday retook an area where the jihadists levelled one of the city’s most well-known shrines in 2014, officials said.
“We retook control of Nabi Yunus area... raised the Iraqi flag above the tomb,” Sabah Al-Noman, spokesman for the Counter-Terrorism Service spearheading the Mosul offensive, told AFP.
He said two other neighborhoods in eastern Mosul were also retaken from Daesh on Monday.
The Nabi Yunus shrine — which was built on the reputed burial site of a prophet known in the Qur'an as Yunus and in the Bible as Jonah — was a popular pilgrimage site.
In July 2014, weeks after overrunning Mosul and much of Iraq’s Sunni Arab heartland, Daesh militants rigged the shrine and blew it up, sparking global outrage.
Daesh destroyed several other key landmarks in Mosul and elsewhere it considered as part of heretical rituals and practices.
Staff Lt. Gen. Abdulghani Assadi, a top commander in the CTS, said “about 90 percent” of east Mosul was now under government control.
Commanders have said it would only take a few more days to flush out the last jihadists remaining on the east bank of the Tigris River than splits the city in two.
The destruction of all bridges over the river in air strikes has made it difficult for Daesh fighters in east Mosul to resupply or escape to the west bank, which they still fully control.
The western side of Mosul, which is home to the old city and some of the jihadists’ traditional bastions, was always tipped as likely to offer the most resistance.

Six soldiers serving with the Somali National Army (SNA) have been sentenced to 10 years in prison for murder and robbery against civilians in Mogadishu on Monday.
The Somali military court’s chairman Hassan Ali Shuute has announced the court’s verdict, saying each soldier was given 10 years of imprisonment over the crimes they committed. The military tribunal allowed the convicted soldiers a chance to appeal the court decision.

Why is 'lock-em-up' always selected as a sufficient response over 'removal'?
[BREITBART] SANTA MONICA -- Left-wing organizers refused a request to recite the Pledge of Allegiance during a "Resist Trump" meeting on Sunday sponsored by MoveOn.org ...a Democratic Party front organization funded by George Soros founded in the wake of the Clinton impeachment. It provides money, muscle, and astroturf as required... to plan protests against the President-elect.
The pledge was rejected because it was "not on the agenda."
And never will be...
Karen Siegemund, chair of the American Freedom Alliance, stood up and asked if the pledge could be recited before the discussions began. "Perhaps we have a veteran in the room who would be happy to lead us to the Pledge of Allegiance?" Siegemund asked.
Voices could be heard saying, "Oh God" and "no" from various parts of the room.
A man named Gene, who was leading the meeting, said, "I’m sorry, but just to keep this meeting moving. I, personally, agree with you. I’m a recovering Republican and I agree with you. However, if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning... I’m going to rule that motion out of order simply because it’s not on the agenda."
The meeting continued normally after that and Siegemund exited the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, where the MoveOn.org-sponsored event was held.
Sunday’s meeting was held for volunteers who oppose President-elect Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... to meet and organize ways to "resist" him and his incoming administration.
Key topics of discussion were immigration, Republican efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare ... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read... ), and planning upcoming rallies.
Some of the women in attendance were also planning to fly to D.C. to attend the Women’s March on Washington rally the day after Trump is sworn in as America’s 45th president. Almost one million people are expected to attend Trump’s inauguration on the National Mall and security is going to be amplified.
The march is set to be one of America’s largest protests. Other rallies are also planned to coincide with the Women’s March, including one known as the "Pussyhats" march. Women will reportedly be wearing knitted, pink hats that have pussycat ears on them during the protests.
A flier from the event points out, "We love the clever wordplay of ’pussyhat and ’pussycat,’ but yes, ’pussy’ is also a derogatory term for female genitalia. We choose this loaded word for our project because we want to reclaim the term as a means of empowerment."

"One of the largest" protests? They are talking about maybe 180-200K. The March For Life, which has been going on for 40+ years drew over 400,000 and the press still ignores it while overpublicizing this crap. And they wonder why Trump won.
#3
The 44th annual anti-abortion March for Life will take place on January 27th. A certain Kellyanne Conway will be speaking, so it may get more press attention than the usual blackout.
#4
Gee whiz, articles like this make me feel bad for not protesting all those years of the soon-to-be previous President.
But I had (and have) a job, and a family, and a life. And Rantburg.

I am going to take a day off from work to attend the March for Life. Having Kellyanne Conway speak is just icing on the cake.
If the MSM report on the March for Life at all, they always concentrate on the hundreds of pro-abortion counter protestors rather than the hundreds of thousands marchers.

[WASHINGTONTIMES] Whatever else Donald Trump may be, he’s a new kind of politician. He’s not afraid of the press. He doesn’t drop to the fetal position, cowering as if pleading for a little mercy, when The New York Times or The Washington Post — or CNN News — cries boo! The approved reaction to lies and slanders for a pol is to smile and take it, with the hope that accusations of being “undisciplined” or “thin skinned” will die with the next news cycle.
This stuns some of the journalists, who are not accustomed to being called for their own mistakes. The skeptical old editor in a green eyeshade and with a sharpened blue pencil, warning reporters that “if your mother tells you she loves you, check it out,” has gone to the great newsroom in the sky. When the president-elect declined to take a question from CNN at his press conference last week because the network promoted a faked “dossier” of his sins and shortcomings, mostly imagined by opposition research groups, reporters in the audience went berserk. In the Donald’s judgment CNN has become a purveyor of “fake news.”
CNN, like much of that legacy media, has not a clue to what the stunning 2016 election was all about. An anvil chorus of media voices join those who can’t give up the campaign that ended for everybody else two months ago. The media has a responsibility and duty to press every president with sharp, legitimate questions, questions that the president won’t like. The president has a corollary right — he should regard it as a duty — to choose whom he will take a question from. Any veteran of a presidential press conference understands the feeling of frustration when the president passes over them to take a question from someone else.
Mr. Trump is obviously not CNN’s idea of what a president ought to be. Fair enough. The network has a right to its opinion. But fair-minded readers and viewers of the news have a right to expect the purveyors of the news to purvey actual news. Posing tough questions to presidents and other leaders is one of the things that makes America great, but myths and other “fake news” posing as the real thing deserve the contempt of everyone.

...because the network promoted a fake "dossier"...
No, CNN did not "promote" any such thing. The focus of their report was on whether Trump had been briefed on said dossier. (A report that appears to have turned out factual.) There is much to criticize CNN. Jim Accosta, his report, and his aggressive style in asking questions rank at the bottom - if at all. But hey, the Bots squeal like schoolgirls when DJ puts the screws to any media so it's probably in the WE's best intrest to suck up.

CNN was still trying to sell the idea that the Steele dossier is legitimate as of yesterday. That is their focus. Given that American "intelligence community" staffers have been telling their foreign counterparts for months that Mr. Trump is a loose cannon Russian stooge at best, based on sharing the same dossier that the head of the DNI described publically as obvious Russian propaganda, It seems to me none of the parties involved have yet learnt any lessons.
Though perhaps some of themournalists, staffers, and politicians in in Washington, who've been avidly sharing and discussing the contents of the dossier for the self-same months are beginning to wonder if they've been played. One can only hope.

CNN and Buzzfeed got themselves a decade of lefty loyalty by attaching golden shower (and the millions of variations) to the incoming President. Doesn't matter if it is true or not they will drop it (half jokingly) at every chance they get.
When a magazine or a newspaper or any news or entertainment media was in real trouble, they went hard, hard left, then died.
It took me a little while to realize this was a sane strategy. In a field completely controlled by the left, when you knew that your job was in peril be it through missmanagement or whatever, your last hope was to go incredibly hard left, so you could blame the failure on ideology. And instead of not being able to find a job, you found yourself lionized by all the “right” (left) “thinking people.” New jobs were assured.
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Anti-Trump protesters are plotting to derail an inaugural ball by setting off stink bombs and the sprinkler system in order to force the evacuation of celebrants, according to an undercover video released Monday.
The D.C. Anti-Fascist Coalition, part of the anti-inauguration umbrella group #DisruptJ20, plans to "ruin" the DeploraBall, a sold-out black-tie gathering Thursday night at the National Press Building, according to the Project Veritas investigation.
"I was thinking of things that would ruin their evening, ruin their outfits and otherwise make it impossible to continue with their plans. So they get nothing accomplished," said a man identified in the video as Scott Green, a leader of the D.C. Anti-Fascist Coalition, in the undercover video.
Another activist, identified as Luke Kuhn, says during a sit-down at the Comet Ping Pong pizza joint in Washington, D.C., "If you had a pint of butyric acid, I don’t care how how big the building is, it is closing," to which Mr. Green responds, "And this stuff is very efficient, it’s very, very smelly and it lasts a long time."
Butyric acid is an ingredient commonly used in stink bombs. As a back-up plan, activists said on the video they would look to set off the sprinkler system.
"I’m trying to think through how to get all the sprinklers to go off at once," says an activist identified as Colin Dunn, adding that he wants to be sure the vandalism is "made to look like an accident."
The video, labelled Part I -- Project Veritas's subtle way of suggesting there are several more queued up for release -- can be seen here. According to the video blurb, "Project Veritas notified the FBI, Secret Service and DC Metro Police of the content of this video prior to its release."
Check and mate.

"The D.C. Anti-Fascist Coalition"? That's funny coming from a fascist organization!
Someone should remind them that security carry guns and they will use them if they think there's a serious threat. Throwing various liquids qualify, among other acts.
[HUFFINGTONPOST] Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State... said Monday that President-elect Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... had made a mistake by attacking German Chancellor Angela Merkel ...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom... ’s history of admitting refugees to her country.
"I thought, frankly, it was inappropriate for a president-elect of the United States to be stepping into the politics of other countries in a quite direct manner," Kerry told CNN’s Ace newshound Christiane Amanpour. "He’ll have to speak to that. As of Friday, he’s responsible for that relationship."
Trump said in an interview with the Times of London and the German newspaper Bild that Merkel had made "one very catastrophic mistake, and that was taking all of these illegals," referring to the Syrian refugees and other migrants colonists the country took in. The president-elect has frequently derided Syrian refugees as a "Trojan horse" for forces of Evil ― and once officially proposed banning all Moslems from entering the U.S., but later said he would like to ban people from certain countries, mostly majority-Moslem ones.
Trump isn’t the president yet, which means the B.O. regime is still in charge of foreign policy ― even when the president-elect makes it difficult. When Merkel responded to Trump, she stressed that he hadn’t taken office yet.
"I’m waiting for his inauguration, as is proper," she said in Berlin, Politico reported. "Then we’ll work with him on all levels. He has just stated his positions, which have been known for quite some time. My positions are also known."
Kerry said he thought Merkel "was extremely courageous" in her response to the refugee crisis and that the B.O. regime "valued her leadership enormously."

Given how Kerry fucked our troops and our country over, I would say it is inappropriate for him to continue breathing.
Burundi on Monday began the process of withdrawing its troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) due to a dispute with the EU over the payment of wages.
Better to bring the troops home so that the Hutus and the Tutsis can kill each other with better weapons...
AMISOM salaries are paid by the EU but have not been received in Bujumbura for months as European diplomats seek to avoid sending money directly to a government against which the bloc imposed sanctions in response to a nearly two-year-long political crisis.
And this is what you get in return...
The EU wants to pay the salaries, worth 5 million euros ($5.3 million) per month, directly to the troops.
Can't do that: Mr. Big and General Impo'tant don't get their cuts that way...
But with no agreement yet made President Pierre Nkurunziza has instructed his foreign and defence ministers to begin the process of withdrawing Burundi’s 5,400 soldiers, roughly one quarter of the AMISOM total.
If the Burundian withdrawal goes ahead it could seriously weaken the ability of AMISOM to fight the Shabaab, an al Qaeda-linked jihadist group committed to overthrowing Somalia’s internationally-backed government.
Once again the Euro-weenies have made a decision that will come back to bite them in the hind end. If the Y'urp-peons want to take a stand against corruption in a sub-Saharan country, fine, but then they have to replace the troops. Perhaps Spanish or Greek troops aren't doing anything at the moment? Or they could send in the mighty Uruguayans...
“We have decided to begin the process, as we have long promised, because our troops engaged with AMISOM cannot continue to work without being paid,” said first vice-president Gaston Sindimwo.
Burundi’s government threatened the withdrawal of its troops last month. “We would like to continue supporting and securing Somalia, but we are obliged to put the withdrawal mechanisms in place,” Sindimwo said, adding that Burundian soldiers have not been paid for 12 months. Burundi has been in the throes of a serious, sometimes deadly political crisis since April 2015 when Nkurunziza announced his intention to run for a third term which opponents said was unconstitutional.
He went on to win an election in July that was boycotted by the opposition and criticised by outside observers. Violence in Burundi has so far killed at least 500 people and driven more than 300,000 to leave the country. The EU’s decision to suspend payment of Burundian soldiers’ salaries via Bujumbura is part of efforts to increase pressure on the government.
That worked well...
In March, the European Union — Burundi’s largest donor — suspended direct aid to the regime. The African Union, which is due to hold its next summit in Addis Ababa at the end of January, in November condemned the EU decision to suspend payment of Burundian soldiers’ wages, warning of a potentially negative impact on the security situation in Somalia.

[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered the removal of Lal Masjid ...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been... khadim Manzoor Hussain from the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
Under the Fourth Schedule, it is mandatory for a suspected terrorist to register their attendance with the police on a regular basis.
Accepting a petition of Mr Hussain, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the IHC also ordered unfreezing of his bank accounts and restoration of his computerised national identity card (CNIC).
The Punjab 1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots.... Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had submitted a report to the district coordination officer of Attock, accusing Mr Hussain of meeting members of the banned Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ), formerly Sipah-e-Sahaba, at his residence in Attock. The suspect was placed on the Fourth Schedule by the Punjab home department in February 2016.
The high court had summoned officials of the home department and the CTD to present evidence in the case.
An officer of the district administration informed the court that they had added the name of the suspect to the list on the recommendations of the CTD. The officer, however, could not satisfy the court when asked if Mr Hussain had been in contact with any high-profile terror suspect.

Daily Mail article is here. Of course it's the Daily Mail so there are plenty of pics, but those might not be as helpful as you'd hope...
[Moonbattery] It used to be that has-beens attempting to extend their 15 minutes would come out as gay.
Maybe she could come out as sober. That'd be a shocka...
I seem to recall she dabbled with girls a few years ago, but mostly played at rehab.
But that doesn’t shock anyone nowadays.
Okay, she could come out as a Republican...
Maybe this will work:
Members of the Muslim faith are welcoming Lindsay Lohan to Islam
Where "hop into the sack" has a slightly different meaning...
after the actress deleted her Instagram account and changed her bio on the social media site.
Over the weekend, Lohan got rid of every photo on her Instagram page, leaving nothing but her profile picture and a bio that now reads: ’Alaikum salam.’ The Arabic greeting translates to ’and unto you peace,’ and many took it mean that Lohan was converting to the Muslim faith.
Soon to be living in Syria married to an DAESH fighter and threatening the West with beheadings and more nude pics...
Lindsay’s acting and singing careers have pretty much petered out,
That is way too kind...
but she may still have work in the entertainment sector in her future -- as an ISIS sex slave.
Definitely bringing new meaning to "career suicide"...
Being an enlightened kind of gal, Lindsay surely knows where women fit in according to the Islamic scheme of things. She ought to demonstrate her sincerity by heading to Raqqa, where she might be able to improve the morale of Soldiers of Allah, provided they aren’t too picky.
Next she'll be preaching the evils of sex, drugs and strong drink...
If you have a strong stomach, watch Lindsay denounce her country on behalf of Islam.
Yes, how .. daring...
Whether she has actually converted or is just dabbling like a Tinseltown flake is unclear. Yes, this is only about Ms. Lohan, but the larger picture is that so many Lister downgrades are converting to this abomination.
It will be educational a few years hence, when Islam is no longer fashionable and they try to give it up.

If she's feeling empty in the ultra-secular entertainment world and looking for some seriously rigorous religion, she could find it nearer home with the Cistercians. Although I understand they don't actually take a vow of silence...

[REUTERS] Iraqi special forces battled Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... murderous Moslems in districts near the Tigris river in djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... on Monday as they sought to bring more of the east of the city back under government control.
The latest festivities occurred in the neighboring Shurta and Andalus districts. At least three Islamic State suicide boom-mobiles targeted Iraqi forces in Andalus. There was no immediate word on any casualties. In an online post, Islamic State said it had carried out a "martyrdom operation" in the area.
Iraq's elite Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) said the holy warriors, who seized Mosul in 2014 as they swept across much of northern Iraq, only to since lose much of that terrain to government counter-offensives, were fighting back hard.
"We've begun breaching (Shurta) but there was an attack a few moments ago. By the end of the day we'll make some progress," CTS front man Sabah al-Numan said.
Shurta and Andalus are situated close to the eastern bank of the Tigris, separated only by some woodland, and within sight of the city's northernmost bridge across the river.
Iraqi forces, which have reached three of the five bridges, say they will soon fully control the eastern bank. They have already taken areas of the river bank further south.
Once the east bank is recaptured, they can begin attacks on western Mosul, which the Sunni Moslem myrmidonsnuffies still hold.
Iraqi forces have seized most of the east in a 3-month-old U.S.-backed campaign to oust the murderous Moslems from Iraq's second largest city, Islamic State's last major Iraqi stronghold. The Tigris bisects Mosul from north to south.
A Rooters cameraman in a southern district along the Tigris said snipers from elite interior ministry combat units were firing across the river at Islamic State positions.
Fighting has intensified since the turn of the year as Iraqi forces have renewed an offensive against the ultra-hardline holy warriors. Troops had got bogged down in late November and December after entering Mosul as IS fighters fought back with boom-mobiles and snipers, and concealed themselves among a civilian population of up to 1.5 million.

And the IRS scandal that hobbled tea-party attempts to do nearly anything and which hasn't been resolved yet that I'm aware of.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) One person was killed and five others were wounded on Monday when two explosive devices exploded west and north of Baghdad.
A police source told Alsumaria News that the bomb was planted on the side of a road near commercial shops in Bakriya, west of baghdad, killing one and wounding three people.
The source, who asked not to be named, said another bomb exploded in Tarimiya, north of the capital, targeting a passing al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces). Two troopers from the patrol were wounded, said the source.
Nobody claimed responsibility for the bombing yet, but Islamic State militants have said they were responsible for several bloody explosions that hit the capital in recent weeks.

Yet another way in which Mr. Trump was misunderestimated. Businessmen, particularly big-time developers, have long memories...
Well..yeah. Bitter tears from WaPo sources that Trump has a memory .. *sob*
They are some of the biggest names in the Republican national security firmament, veterans of past GOP administrations who say, if called upon by President-elect Donald Trump, they stand ready to serve their country again. The call that never comes™
But their phones aren't ringing. Their entreaties to Trump Tower in New York have mostly gone unanswered.
"It wasn't personal, Michael, it was just business."
In Trump world, these establishment all-stars say they are "PNG" ‐ personae non gratae.
They were part of the swamp anyways. Good riddance to them...
Their transgression was signing one or both of two public "Never Trump" letters during the campaign, declaring they would not vote for Trump and calling his candidacy a danger to the nation. "Oh...that"
One letter, with 122 names, was published by War on the Rocks, a website devoted to national security commentary, during the primary season in March. The other, with 50 names, including some repeat signatories, was published by the New York Times during the general-election campaign in August.
As the Instapundit notes, if you sign your name to a "Never Trump" missive, aren't you blacklisting yourself?
Now, just days before Trump is sworn in as the nation's 45th president, the letter signers fear they have been added to another document, this one private ‐ a purported blacklist compiled by Trump's political advisers.
Barack Obama, 2009: "Don't think we're not keeping score, brother."
"Before he won, the conversation was, ‘We really would love for you to change your mind and join us,' " Peter Feaver, a National Security Council special adviser under President George W. Bush, said of informal talks with Trump aides. Feaver, who signed both letters, added that, "Since he won . . . the conversation is, ‘There likely will be a blacklist of people who signed the letters who won't themselves be eligible for a post.' " Actions have consequences, dumbshits. What are you? Paleos?
Now, now, give them a chance...
Trump transition aides did not respond to a request for comment for this article. *snort*
With any luck they can be employed in the private sector, the media or academics for the next eight years...

For some reason, the plight of the feckless NeverTrumpers reminds me of this old Dilbert cartoon, about self-selection for oblivion:

DJT definitely has them chasing the4ir tails. Granted WaPo was under different ownership in the GW Bush era, but didn't that rag at one time or another trash every single person on this list? Now they are useful examples of "wise men?" Mr. Trump, save us all from any more of these "wise men..."

As I've posted before, lists won't have to be made, because they've already been made by the miscreants themselves.

Some time in the wilderness will allow them the perspective to see what they previously missed while they were responding viscerally to that Queens accent and the salesmanship, not to mention the dire portrait painted by his competitors, and the time to decide whether they want to revise their opinions, find a different line of work or even choose to enjoy a long-overdue retirement. If it's good enough for Thomas Sowell...

...and if they weren't blacklisted, WaPo would do a story on Dubya's Republican retreads in the Trump administration. Leftists will always have something to bitch and moan about.
[Libya Herald] Streets in several areas of western Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... remained blocked today for the third day running today as a local militia continued to try to force the release of their commander, Adel Sifau. Locally known as "Shita", he was enjugged Please don't kill me! on Friday by the Rada ("Deterrence") forces following a series of raids in Gargaresh apparently aimed at cracking down on drug and alcohol dealers, as well as illegal immigration rackets and prostitution in the area.
The largely Amazigh 12th Brigade, which also calls itself the "Hay Andalus Defence Operations Room", set up sand barriers and checkpoints from Hay Andalus to Ghut Shaal, Serraj and Janzur and are said to be arresting anyone from Suq al-Juma.
Sifau, said to come from the Jebel Nafusa town of Kabaw, was grabbed by Rada forces on Friday and Rada has accused him of being involved in various criminal activities. In a statement, it said that he had been arrested while trying to protect his illicit businesses in Gargaresh. A source close to Rada has since claimed that under interrogation, Sifau had confessed to several crimes. These, he told the Libyan Herald, had included kidnapping for ransom.
In its own statement on social media, the 12th Brigade subsequently threatened to retaliate, saying that it would join forces with other militias opposed to Rada. These include those under Misratan militia commander Salah Badi ...a Misrata militia commander, self-appointed colonel and a member of the Wafa Islamist bloc. He was cashiered from the Libyan army in 1992 because he was nuts... . There are now reports that the 12th brigade is receiving encouragement from Tripoli and Misrata hardliners.
It already has close links to the Janzour-based Mobile Forces.

[Libya Observer] The pilots who are conducting Arclight airstrikes in support for the rogue General Khalifa Haftar ... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all... and are taking off from Kharuba airbase near al-Marij city are private military contractors that have been hired as mercenaries by Haftar, reported War is Boring website.
"On January 11, 2017, Intelligence Online - a professional journal covering the world’s intelligence services - revealed that the pilots of Air Tractor attack planes flying from Al Khadim air base in Libya are private contractors working for Erik Prince, the founder of the company formerly known as Blackwater." War is Boring wrote on Saturday.
The website added that its sources in Libya had confirmed the information and said that the pilots flying the United Arab Emirates Air Force IOMAX AT-802 Air Tractors -- converted crop-dusters -- are mercenaries and aren’t Arabs.
"Most of the for-profit aviators are American, according to IOL. Prince denied involvement in the UAE air operations." War is Boring indicated.
This new intelligence report is a blindingly obvious revelation of the truth behind the true identity of the pilots Haftar is using in his war on Benghazi, which has been under day-to-day destruction by Dignity Operation forces since May 2014.
Several news reports have disclosed over the last two years the involvement of American, French, EU and Egyptian pilots among the Haftar-led forces in eastern Libya.

[MIDDLE-EAST-ONLINE] Forces loyal to Marshal Khalifa Haftar ... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all... on Monday retook a district in Libya's Benghazi from jihadists after fighting that killed nine soldiers in two days, a military source said.
Marshal Haftar sure has a lot of campaign ribbons. I'm waiting for him to start wearing sprockets...
"We now control the district of Abu Sneib" in the southwest of the city, said a commanding officer in the army headed by Haftar, who backs the parliament in the country's east.
"Our forces now completely surround the Qanfuda area" nearby, the same source said.
The source said 52 troops had died in fighting since January 1 in and around Benghazi.
Haftar has managed to retake a large part of the eastern coastal city from jihadists since Benghazi came under their control in 2014. But jihadists still control the central districts of al-Saberi and Souq al-Hout.
These jihadist groups include the Revolutionary Shura Council of Benghazi, an alliance of Islamist militias that includes the al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Sharia ...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet... Benghazi was the cradle of the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed dictator Moamer Qadaffy.

[THEMALAYMAILONLINE] Nestled in the heart of Jakarta’s Thamrin district, an area lined with hotels, shopping centres, and several embassies, a refurbished Starbucks cafe stands as a poignant symbol of Indonesia’s resilience against terrorism.
It was here a year ago on Jan 14, 2016, that customers and bystanders bore witness to multiple kabooms and gunfire which eventually claimed the lives of four civilians and left more than 20 injured. The attacks claimed by Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (IS) marked the first time the terror group had unleashed its violence on South-east Asia.
They were followed in June by a kaboom in a nightclub in Puchong, Malaysia, which injured eight people. An attack on Marina Bay was foiled by the Indonesian authorities in Batam.
While Indonesia and Malaysia have succeeded in thwarting several Lion of Islam plots in recent months, experts we spoke to say that the threat of radicalisation and terrorism still loom large over the region.
As IS continues to lose ground in Iraq and Syria, South-east Asia has to prepare itself for the return of hundreds of battle hardened jihadists who might unleash violence at home.
An additional threat lies in IS’ call to its supporters and sympathisers to carry out attacks in their own countries.
"The fall of the caliphate by no means suggests that there would be a let up in terms of the spread of Death Eater ideologies that form the basis of the caliphate," said Associate Professor Syed Farid al-Atas from the National University of Singapore’s department of sociology. "Wahhabism and other forms of Salafism are going to continue to spread throughout the Moslem world and certainly in South-east Asia."
Since 2013, a total of 119 suspects have been incarcerated You have the right to remain silent... in Malaysia for links to IS, including at least seven returnees from Syria.
Some 280 Indonesians are known to have joined IS’ campaign in Syria, of which 20 have returned home. Of these 20, at least 13 have been arrested. Meatball seller, Ahmad Junaedi, was one of them.
He said he left for Syria in 2014, after being radicalised at a mosque in Malang, East Java, Indonesia, where he was made to watch videos of the fighting in the Middle East.
"From the videos, I could see how cruel the Assad regime was", Junaedi said, referring to Syrian leader Bashir al-Assad. "I saw many mosques being bombed from above, by jet fighters. Very often, I saw mothers carrying their children being killed. Children were burnt to ashes while their parents were being killed."
"I was told that if I couldn’t aid them financially, I should contribute with my life by travelling to Syria to fight against the injustices there."
Although he was at first reluctant to leave his wife and young children behind, Junaedi was eventually lured by the promise of a huge payout by one of the Indonesian IS leaders, Abu Jandal.
After five months in Syria, Junaedi grew weary of the fighting and the squalid living conditions. He also learnt that the promise of a huge payout was a lie. But money is not all he has lost. In March 2015, six months after he returned to Malang, he was arrested by the Indonesian authorities and sentenced to three years in prison. He has not heard from any of his family members since.

that's what happens when the problem is in the text of the koran and hadith and not just in the interpretation.
you can't use 'tightened security', spying, guns, bombs or any other force tactic to fight the problem which we keep pretending isn't the religion
if you want to win, first acknowledge the problem lies within the religion.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The president of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, Saleh al-Samad, said to al-Mayadeen television that all attempts for the Saudi-backed forces to reach the strategic Bab-al-Mandeb Strait has been resisted, and that the mercenaries are fighting with the support of Riyadh and on behalf of Israel.
The battle "is not with the mercenaries, nor Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... , it is a battle with Israel, primarily," he claimed.
He added that Saudi Arabia is too weak to launch such a wide military campaign against Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... without Israel’s support, pointing to recent meetings between Saudi officials and a number of Israelis, PressTV reported.
He then accused Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, Yemen’s former president who asked Saudi Arabia to launch war on his home country, of attempting to subjugate the Yemeni people by playing the economic card, in an apparent reference to the embargo that had been imposed on Yemen by Riyadh, the report continued.

[IsraelTimes] Gunmen killed eight coppers late Monday in an attack on a checkpoint in el-Wadi el-Gedid province in southwest Egypt, the interior ministry said.
Two of the attackers were killed when security forces fought back, and three other security personnel were maimed, the ministry said in a statement.
The attack took place on al-Naqab checkpoint, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) from el-Kharga city, the capital of the province, the ministry said.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which bore the hallmarks of Islamic myrmidons.
The attack was in the remote Wadi al-Jadid province and came a week after eight other coppers were killed by jihadist holy warriors in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.
The Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... terror group said on January 10 it was behind a boom-mobile assault on a police checkpoint in the Sinai that killed eight people a day earlier.
[AlAhram] One civilian was killed and two were maimed when an improvised bomb (IED) detonated in the North Sinai city of al-Arish on Monday, al-Ahram Arabic news website reported, citing medical sources. According to al-Ahram, the IED was planted in piles of garbage on Ahmed Oraby Street in the city's center.
No group has yet grabbed credit for the attack, which comes a day after Egyptian police said they were able to kill a leading figure in the terrorist group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis during a house raid in al-Arish.
In a separate incident, a security source told al-Ahram that unknown gunnies seized on Monday a general tax authority car at gunpoint in the North Sinai city. The security source said the car was taken to an unknown location.
They added that security forces were currently combing the area to arrest the culprits.
[LEGALINSURRECTION] President Obama is slowly draining the terrorist prison in Guantanamo Bay before turning the White House keys over to Trump.
In the wee hours of the morning, it was announced that Oman accepted ten GITMO prisoners.
How long before they're in Raqqa?
From the Wall Street Journal:
Oman accepted the men in accordance with U.S. efforts to settle the Guantanamo issue, the country’s state-controlled news agency said in a brief statement, citing an Omani Foreign Ministry source. It didn’t release the names or nationalities of the men. A request for further details wasn’t immediately returned.
The transfer follows others by the U.S. to its Persian Gulf allies in recent years. Many of the detainees have been Yemenis whom the U.S. hesitated to resettle in their home country given the continuing conflict and political instability there.
As the WSJ points out, there were 55 detainees remaining before the latest prisoner transfer to Oman.
Over the last several months, President Obama has released a total of thirty-one prisoners (including those recently released):
In August 2016, the largest single release under President Obama took place, when 15 men — 12 Yemenis and three Afghans — were released in the United Arab Emirates. Six of these men had been approved for release by Obama’s task force in 2010, and nine others had been approved for release by Periodic Review Boards. In October, another release took place — of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, torture victim and best-selling author, who had also been approved for release by a PRB, and in December another Yemeni approved for release by a PRB was freed in Cape Verde.
As 2017 began, President Obama released four more Yemeni prisoners — to Saudi Arabia, also promising to release between 13 and 15 of the 19 men approved for release before he leaves office and the uncertainties of Donald Trump’s presidency begin in earnest.
Campaigning prior to the 2008 election, President Obama promised to shutter GITMO. President-elect Trump has promised to keep the detention facility open.
The sultanate of Oman, on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, previously accepted 10 Guantanamo prisoners from Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... in January 2016. Oman also took another six in June 2015. Meanwhile, ...back at the bunker, his Excellency called a hurried meeting of his closest advisors. It was to be his last. They discussed the officers's efficiency rating system... Oman's neighbor Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... took four prisoners on Jan. 5 and the United Arab Emirates took 15 prisoners in the largest-single transfer during Obama's administration on Aug. 15.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
