Delta passenger reportedly asked Jews to ‘raise their hands
Pre-Thanksgiving travel was even more stressful than usual for passengers aboard one flight to Atlanta. Police arrested a Delta airlines passenger on Wednesday after passengers reported that he was causing a disturbance on the plane.

A video posted to Twitter showed the man, identified by police as David Toaff, struggling with three officers in the airport who eventually arrested him. In the video, Toaff was seen yelling "I’m not a bad person" and that there was a "white guy with blue eyes and he was just like Trump ‐ he’s a Nazi!"
Sounds like someone's mental problems are aggravated by the stress of flying these days.
t’s possible that Toaff is Jewish. In the video where he is shown with police, he appeared to be wearing a Jewish prayer shawl, as HuffPost notes. Toaff did not immediately return Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment, but a friend wrote on social media that Toaff is "a religious Jew."
Maybe a little too religious at times ....
"Preliminary information indicates that while in flight to Atlanta from Washington D.C. a male was yelling, asking Jewish people on board to identify themselves and making remarks about bombings to passengers aboard the aircraft," the Atlanta police said in a statement provided to Yahoo Lifestyle.
Bombings, not having a bomb I suppose.
The passenger who posted the video on Twitter said that the man asked Jews to "raise their hands" so he could "identify them," claiming that he went on "an anti-Semitic tirade."
Not at all, but thanks for keeping an eye out.
Delta confirmed in a statement that local law enforcement met Flight 1822 in Atlanta "due to a customer’s behavior onboard the flight," but didn’t give any further details.

When the flight arrived in Atlanta, Toaff, 37, "continued the disturbance" and "refused to cooperate with officers’ repeated requests to calm down," according to the police. He was charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct. "Incredible work by Atlanta police," a witness who took the video wrote on Twitter.
Actually it's good work and sort of what I would expect in the situation.
But while some appeared to think that Toaff’s tirade on the plane was anti-Semitic, friends ‐ and others on Twitter ‐ are pushing back to suggest that his words had been misinterpreted. An online commenter who claimed to know Toaff wrote on Twitter that he was probably looking for a "minyan" of 10 Jews on the flight so he could say prayers. "I know this man. He’s a religious Jew and not anti-Semitic in any way," this commenter wrote.

Others suggested that mental illness might be the potential cause of the outburst. "I personally know David Toaff very well. I grew up with him and we were close friends in the Main Line outside Philadelphia," wrote a Twitter user named Jascha Rubin. "He has bipolar depression and clearly is having a manic episode on this video. Dale9 and all the news outlets have jumped to unfair conclusions."
Aaand that's what I expect from the news media and a certain half of the population, too.
Another man, one does not appear to know Toaff, also weighed in. "Jordan I actually don’t see an antiemetic rant. I see an Ill young man in the throws of a manic or schizophrenic break," wrote Louis M. Profeta. "But I’m just a simple ER doc who sees this every day. You didn’t film social injustice you filmed someone’s child’s illness for the world to gawk at. Shame."
When a Jew has a mental breakdown jew breakdown he says he is terrified and worries about being bombed. When a Muslim had a mental breakdown he way too often gets SJS and tries to kill every kufir in sight.
Toaff lives in Washington D.C., according to his Facebook page. He recently posted a painting his father made of the Old City in Jerusalem, and shared an article about the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting during which 11 people were killed last month. He could not be reached for comment.
Give the guy some time to get back on his feet.

The Lefty Lies About a World Without Borders
h/t Instapundit
My husband recently noticed a lot of movies with the UN in a positive role, and basically a world-government role.

Even though Husband is largely apolitical, this made him snort. Because even people who are mostly apolitical know the disaster that child-trafficking, aid-stealing UN "troops" are, at least when they’re not just U.S. troops flying the blue flag. (What is it with the blue flags, btw? That’s the EU too. Would white be too on the nose?)

I told him that’s because the left always telegraphs their intentions. Before they were ready for Hilary! for instance, they ran movies and wrote books about a president that was basically Hillary for at least a decade and probably more. (I don’t watch TV and movies, save for odd jags, usually years after they first came out, so the actual release years are fuzzy.)

And right now the left is so near that one-world-government, no borders, give peace a chance, John Lennon’s Imagine world they can taste it.

Or so they think. Of course, they’re nowhere near it. What they are actually enabling is the plundering of the first world by the third and the destruction of civilization and the engine of creation and production that has lifted most of the world population to a level our ancestors would consider unimaginable wealth. (Yes, even most of the third world is richer than, say, Elizabethan England. But never mind that.)

Hero RAF Typhoon pilot obliterates four ISIS trucks a mile apart in same blitz
[Mirror] A hero RAF Typhoon pilot who destroyed four ISIS suicide trucks laden with bombs in a record nine-hour mission in Syria has been awarded a gallantry medal.

Flight Lieutenant Thomas Hansford's targets were more than a mile away from each other during a coalition blitz in September last year.

He had to navigate his fighter jet through thunderstorms as he wiped out the suicide trucks in a series of air strikes on his first Operation Shader mission as lead pilot.

Flt Lt Hansford has now been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, which recognises an act or acts of valour, courage or devotion to duty whilst flying in active operations against the enemy.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Services for Hoover, Alabama resident Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford, Jr., announced soon
[Breitbart] A good guy with a gun shot and killed an attacker at an Alabama mall "within seconds" of that attacker shooting and wounding two people.

WVTM reports that the good guy, a Hoover, Alabama, police officer, shot the gunman, who was then pronounced dead at the scene.
"He was a good boy, kind to his Moms. Turning his life around"
The incident occurred at Riverchase Galleria.
Public Service Homicide (PSH) suspected.
Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis said, "From the time that shooting took place, they engaged and it was safe within seconds that it happened. You don’t see that too often. So very, very proud of that."

Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato said, "Unfortunately, an individual lost his life. Unfortunately, one of our police officers had to engage that individual. He did so as a professional. He did so at the risk of his own life. But he stepped in to protect thousands, and I’m grateful for that."

WBRC reports that the incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Thanksgiving night. That 21-year-old Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford, Jr., who is now deceased, shot an 18-year-old twice following a physical confrontation. Bradford also shot a 12-year-old girl. The 18-year-old is in serious condition and WBRC indicates the female is "alert" and "talking."

Former CIA director Michael Hayden suffers stroke
[NYPost] Hayden, 73, served under both the George W. Bush and Obama. He's a retired Air Force general and now works for CNN as a security analyst. Hayden has been a sharp critic of President Trump since he was elected in 2016.

In August, Hayden said he would consider it an honor if Trump took away his security clearance. Hayden made the statement to show solidarity with fellow Klingon former CIA director John Brennan after Trump revoked Brennan's security clearance. The White House said in August that Hayden's security clearance was under review.

Swiss vote on going it alone in sovereignty referendum
[BBC] Why the fuss?

The main proposal calls for Swiss law to take precedence over international law and treaties. For supporters like Aliki Panayides, it would give voters "the final say on every issue".

She says: "That's all we want: it's us that says what is going on in Switzerland, not a foreign tribunal."

United in opposition are the Swiss government, all major political parties bar one, and a coalition of 120 civil society organisations, from environmental groups to groups which support the elderly, the disabled, or refugees.
'Yes, for democracy and political self determination'...loosely translated.
"It's a Trojan horse... it's not about saving democracy, it's about weakening fundamental rights in Switzerland," says Andrea Huber.

Science & Technology
The Pentagon's Push to Program Everyone's Soldiers' Brains
[Defense One] DARPA’s developing capabilities still hover at or near a proof-of-concept stage. But that’s close enough to have drawn investment from some of the world’s richest corporations.

I. Who Could Object?
Certainly not the people at DARPA or the ruling oligarchy.
"Tonight I would like to share with you an idea that I am extremely passionate about," the young man said. His long black hair was swept back like a rock star’s, or a gangster’s. "Think about this," he continued. "Throughout all human history, the way that we have expressed our intent, the way we have expressed our goals, the way we have expressed our desires, has been limited by our bodies." When he inhaled, his rib cage expanded and filled out the fabric of his shirt. Gesturing toward his body, he said, "We are born into this world with this. Whatever nature or luck has given us."

His speech then took a turn: "Now, we’ve had a lot of interesting tools over the years, but fundamentally the way that we work with those tools is through our bodies." Then a further turn: "Here’s a situation that I know all of you know very well‐your frustration with your smartphones, right? This is another tool, right? And we are still communicating with these tools through our bodies."

And then it made a leap: "I would claim to you that these tools are not so smart. And maybe one of the reasons why they’re not so smart is because they’re not connected to our brains. Maybe if we could hook those devices into our brains, they could have some idea of what our goals are, what our intent is, and what our frustration is."
But, but, but I thought AI was the problem, the threat.
So began "Beyond Bionics," a talk by Justin C. Sanchez, then an associate professor of biomedical engineering and neuroscience at the University of Miami, and a faculty member of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. He was speaking at a tedx conference in Florida in 2012. What lies beyond bionics? Sanchez described his work as trying to "understand the neural code," which would involve putting "very fine microwire electrodes"‐the diameter of a human hair‐"into the brain." When we do that, he said, we would be able to "listen in to the music of the brain" and "listen in to what somebody’s motor intent might be" and get a glimpse of "your goals and your rewards" and then "start to understand how the brain encodes behavior."

He explained, "With all of this knowledge, what we’re trying to do is build new medical devices, new implantable chips for the body that can be encoded or programmed with all of these different aspects. Now, you may be wondering, what are we going to do with those chips? Well, the first recipients of these kinds of technologies will be the paralyzed. It would make me so happy by the end of my career if I could help get somebody out of their wheelchair."

Sanchez went on, "The people that we are trying to help should never be imprisoned by their bodies. And today we can design technologies that can help liberate them from that. I’m truly inspired by that. It drives me every day when I wake up and get out of bed. Thank you so much." He blew a kiss to the audience.
Invasion of the Monopines! Coming to a community near you.
The mission is to make human beings something other than what we are, with powers beyond the ones we’re born with.

China-Japan-Koreas
Beijing Debuts Plan to Monitor Behavior of Every Resident by End of 2020
[Breitbart] Beijing announced an "action plan" this week for monitoring residents’ behavior, adding that the city expects to have its social credit system fully implemented by the end of 2020.

Beijing plans to reward and punish its residents based on data that will be collected from various departments monitoring citizens’ social behavior, according to a detailed "action plan" posted on Monday to the city’s municipal website.

By the beginning of 2020, the announcement declares, China’s capital city will have all residents officially locked into the permanent surveillance program, part of a broader effort to have every Chinese citizen rated on a "social credit system" decreeing what public services a person can use based on their obedience to laws and loyalty to the communist regime.

The government will use the data collected to assess citizens’ behavior to decide if an individual is law-abiding and "trustworthy" to the Communist Party.

Residents who behave properly in the eyes of the Chinese government will receive high credit scores, while residents who misbehave will receive low scores, causing them to lead more difficult lives.

"Efforts will be made to build a market supervision mechanism with corporate credit as the core," states Beijing’s municipal website, adding that it will explore the implementation of what it calls "the personal integrity project," which will utilize residents’ credit scores for "market access, public services, tourism," and "fields such as entrepreneurship and job hunting."

Higher scores can also open the "green channel," which will expedite residents’ applications for higher quality "education and medical resources."

"Those who violate the law and lose trust will pay a heavy price," adds the government website, stating that it will "improve the blacklist system" and that residents will find themselves "limited everywhere, and difficult to move" if they are deemed untrustworthy by the Communists in control.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Could Israel's ‘Good Neighbor' Policy Work for the Migrant Caravans?
[PJ] Amid the controversy of President Trump ordering 5,200 active-duty soldiers to deploy to the United States’ southern border, tension has once again peaked politically. The Trump administration’s decision has come as a caravan of over 3,000 migrants from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala begins arriving at the Mexican-American border to claim asylum. Democrats have been quick to highlight images of women and children among the caravan, and have echoed the claims that the caravan is composed of families fleeing violence and poverty that must be offered entry into the United States. Meanwhile, Republicans have taken a hard stance against the thousands of unknown individuals, arguing that national security must be our nation’s primary consideration and that the caravan should be unreluctantly turned away. Once again, this country is seemingly at yet another impasse.

Little attention has been paid though to a small country several thousand miles away that seems to face a similar dilemma: Israel.

A country of only 8.7 million people with an area just smaller than the size of New Hampshire, Israel is the only industrialized country adjacent to Syria amidst their civil war. Having been involved in eight wars, two intifadas, and a series of armed conflicts in the country’s 70-year history, Israel is all too aware of the risks associated with bringing in unknown refugees. As thousands of Syrians continue to flee to their northern Golan Heights border, Israel has to decide how it is going to respond.

While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it perspicuously clear that Israel would not open its northern border, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began providing tents, food, clothing, medicine, and humanitarian aid to the refugees as they amassed at the border, a mission they termed "Good Neighbor." Further, as sick and injured Syrians approach the border for medical aid, after being screened by the IDF, the individuals are taken via Israeli ambulances to nearby hospitals for medical treatment and hospitalization before being returned to the border. Lastly, following the Yom Kippur War in 1973, Israel and Syria signed the "Agreement on Disengagement," which created a demilitarized zone between the two countries in which the refugees are now dwelling. Israel has made it categorically clear that any attack on the demilitarized zone would be militantly reciprocated, and Israel has moved tanks, artillery cannons, and troops to their northern border accordingly. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has yet to violate the decades-old agreement, and a degree of military protection is thus additionally offered to the refugees.

The question is how applicable, or even humane, such a model is for the United States.

Leventhal immediately call the language inappropriate, apologized to their viewers and then nixed the segment early "because of some of the language that was used". We didn’t see Paulina again.

And then after the segment was over, Fox News anchor Arthel Neville officially apologized to Hillary Clinton, pointing out that Fox News does not condone what Paulina said about the former Secretary of State.

So what do you think? Was the apology necessary or is this more evidence that BillO was right about Fox News wanting to become part of the establishment media?

"You decide."

Did Chief Justice Roberts just urinate on my leg?
[American Thinker] Chief Justice John Roberts recently wrote, "We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges."

The chief justice knows that this is not true, and I find it extremely insulting that he believes that I am stupid enough to believe it. As he relieved himself on my leg, he told me it was raining. Roberts's statement was a response to President Trump's criticism of "Obama judges" who ruled against the administration.

The president replied, "Sorry Chief Justice John Roberts, but you do indeed have 'Obama judges,' and they have a much different point of view than the people who are charged with the safety of our country. It would be great if the 9th Circuit was indeed an 'independent judiciary'[.]"

Dov Fischer at the American Spectator claimed, "[I]t sounds ridiculous ‐ even borderline delusional ‐ to deny that today's federal judiciary is chock-full of Obama judges and Clinton judges on a mission to stop President Trump's agenda."

Justice Roberts is not delusional.

Justices do not have the name of the president who nominated them in their titles. In this respect only, Justice Roberts is correct. However, they generally reflect the philosophy of the president who nominated them. Robert Barnes of the Washington Post remarked, "[S]tudies show there are clear ideological differences between judges nominated by presidents of different parties." Do we actually need studies to illustrate this?

Yet the pool of potential judicial nominees is dominated by progressives, and even "conservative" nominees can turn out to be quite liberal. U.S. district judge Timothy Kelly ‐ a Trump appointee ‐ ruled against the administration in its attempt to revoke CNN reporter Jim Acosta's White House press credentials.

Judges are human beings. They reflect a wide range of personality types and philosophies. There are "wise Latinas," "wise Yentas," and even "wise old Crackers." Their core responsibility is to make decisions free of bias using the U.S. Constitution as a guideline. This is not always the case. Justice Thurgood Marshall is famous for saying, "You guys have been practicing discrimination for years. Now it's our turn."

Teddy's Bigger Burgers in Mapunapuna shutters store
[Vegas Journal Review] HONOLULU ‐ A Hawaii-based burger chain has closed a Honolulu restaurant for cleaning after a video posted to social media appeared to show a rat being cooked on the grill.

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers has closed the Mapunapuna location and fired two employees who appeared in the Snapchat video.

"We are horrified that a former teenage employee would conduct themselves in that way and make such a video of which we are investigating its authenticity," said Richard Stula, the president of Teddy’s Bigger Burgers.

The company initiated a "complete sanitization" and is replacing equipment and utensils at the fast-food restaurant after the video was shared with them several days ago, Stula said in the statement.

"We will then send a corporate team in to inspect and complete a thorough audit of the location before it is allowed to re-open," Stula said.

U.S. Airstrikes Kill 50 Al-Shabaab Jihadis in Somalia
[Breitbart] American airstrikes launched over the last three days have "degraded" the East Africa-based al-Qaeda wing al-Shabaab, killing 50 jihadis in Somalia days after the United Nations determined the group is expanding and remains the top threat facing African nation, the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) revealed.

The airstrikes came after the United Nations found that the American airstrikes have failed to diminish al-Shabaab’s ability to carry out "complex asymmetric attacks in Somalia," adding that the growing Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) presence in the African country fueled by an influx of fighters from the fallen caliphate in Iraq and Syria also poses a menace.

Via press releases, AFRICOM announced it launched airstrikes this week to support the Somalian government’s efforts to degrade al-Shabaab, killing 37 jihadis on November 20; seven on November 21; and six jihadis and a weapons cache on November 22, adding:

Why did nobody mention that Beto O'Rourke's wife is a billionaire heiress?
[Spectator USA] Young Beto O’Rourke casts himself as the ’anti-Trump’. But his father-in-law, it turns out, is a billionaire property developer with a contentious relationship with non-white residents ‐ not unlike the President. Beto’s more the proto-Jared Kushner.

The New York Times today revealed the highly interesting news that friend-of-the-little-guy Beto married well. Very well. His wife is not only the daughter of William D. Sanders, aka the Warren Buffet of real estate, Cockburn can reveal she is the only daughter. Sanders’s portfolio is valued at about $20 billion.

Nothing wrong with that, of course, but something is amiss when an endless stream of laudatory profiles fails to mention it. ’Stop the Press Before It Profiles Beto O’Rourke Again,’ came the muffled cry of Politico’s Jack Shafer a couple of weeks ago, from beneath a deluge of glowing cuttings about the Texas congressman. Having a profile of the boyishly handsome skateboarder standing against Sen. Ted Cruz is as key an ingredient to a left-leaning media site as an Instagram page or a round of cuts when your staff try to unionise.

A Yahoo profile of O’Rourke described how he ’married Amy Sanders, a charter school administrator,’ and served on the City Council ’championing downtown redevelopment.’ But the reporter didn’t bother to look into who Sanders’s father was.

Afghanistan
Up To 290,000 People Displaced In Afghanistan This Year: Report
[ToloNews] A report by United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) shows that countrywide conflict displacements in Afghanistan is now touching over 289,867 in Afghanistan which the report says is quite concerning.

The report titled OCHA’s Displacement Tracking System shows that a total of 289,867 people have been verified as having been displaced by conflict in 2018 which shows an increase of 6,635 on the previous week’s total.

Overall, the number of people displaced so far is 33% less than the same period last year (431,871), the report says.

According to the report, 60 to 70 percent of people in Malistan and Jaghori districts of Ghazni province have been displaced from their homes as a result of war and violence.

The report says that 930 families (6,510 individuals approximately) have arrived in Bamiyan
...a place in Afghanistan that used to have some historically interesting statues of the Buddha carved into a mountainside. Then the holy men showed up and now all they have is some big holes...
City following festivities in Jaghori and Malistan districts.

Moreover, the number of IDPs from Malistan and Jaghori in Ghazni City had reached 2,660 families (15,820 people) as of 16 November 2018, the report said.

According to presidential delegation’s information, about 60%-70% of the population are displaced from Jaghori and Malistan following the armed clash, the report added.

The report says that IDPs continue to arrive in cities of Ghazni, Bamiyan and Kabul.

The Afghan government officials meanwhile said they continue their efforts to help the displaced families ‐ especially those of Ghazni province.

"We are covering the displaced people for 72 hours from our emergency budget. We provide them food and other stuff until they are settled in some areas," said Ahmad Tamim Azimi, front man for Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA).

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
a number of displaced persons in Ghazni said government is not taking solid measures for security of their areas.

"There were bombardments and rockets were fired in our area. We took some of our goods from the war zone... Nothing left for us," said Gul Agha, member of a displaced family from Ghazni.

"Government should at least show us our way if it does not want to take action to help us," said Mohammad Ali, member of a displaced family from Ghazni.

"Our school was destroyed, our homes were destroyed. We cannot go to school," said Ezatullah, a resident of Ghazni.

Based on the UN report, the situation is also worse in the eastern and western parts of the country.

"Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
authorities reported of approximately 1,028 families (7,196 people) displaced due to the intra-NSAG festivities in Khogyani District. Majority of these people have been displaced within the district with the remaining moved to Surkhrod, Behsud and Jalalabad city. OCHA organized an OCT meeting in Nangarhar on 14 November and constituted joint assessment teams to conduct needs assessment and respond to the immediate needs of IDPs," says the report.

Residents Protest Joint Military Operation In Parwan
[ToloNews] Some residents of Parwan province, in the center of Afghanistan, closed the Kabul-Mazar highway to traffic early on Friday morning to protest against a military operation carried out by Afghan and foreign forces in Jabal Saraj district in the province.

The residents claimed that three civilians have bit the dust in the military operation.

The military operation was carried out in Bain-e-Bagh Ha area in the district, the residents said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter awoke groggily, his hand still stuck in the Ming vase...
provincial police chief Mohammad Mahfooz Walizada told TOLOnews that the military operation was carried out by Afghan Special Force and foreign troops in Bain-e-Bagh Ha area "without coordination with the police headquarters".

He said three civilians have bit the dust in the military operation.

Walizada said the military operation was carried out to target a group leader of illegal gunnies named Wazir, but according to him, the forces targeted another area instead of their main target which inflicted casualties to civilians.

Photos shared on social media from the province show a destroyed house which residents claim has been targeted by the Afghan and foreign forces during the operation.

Security officials in Kabul have not commented on the report so far.

A Resolute Support front man, Debra Richardson, said in a statement that neither Resolute Support nor US forces have conducted operations in Parwan over the past three days.

Europe
Migrants dying at sea off Spain triple toll of last year: UN
[AlAhram] At least 631 African migrants colonists have died trying to reach Spain so far this year, nearly three times more than in all of 2017, and the situation has become "alarming", the U.N. migration agency said on Friday.

More than 120 migrants colonists, from North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, have arrived in Spain each day during November, following a record month in October with over 350 per day, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said.

"This is usually a time of slowing down on these routes, that is not happening in Spain," IOM front man Joel Millman told a news briefing.

Moslem colonists Migrants are using smaller and less seaworthy boats, he said.

About two dozen migrants colonists drowned off the coast of Cadiz in November, he said. The sole survivor of another shipwreck, a teenage boy from Guinea now in hospital with severe hypothermia, told rescuers that he was traveling with nine others including his brother in an inflatable row boat from Tangiers, Morocco.

The arrival of hundreds of thousands of migrants colonists into Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
has fueled the rise of far-right parties across the continent in recent years, although numbers have fallen over the past three years. Many thousands of people, mostly from Africa and the Middle East, have drowned at sea.

So far this year 104,506 migrants colonists have arrived by sea in Europe and 2,075 have perished, according to the IOM’s latest figures. Both figures are about two-thirds of last year’s totals and around a quarter of the totals from 2016.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia, stung by intelligence leaks, plans to tighten data protection
[AlAhram] Russia has drawn up draft legislation aimed at stopping leaks of personal information from state agencies, a step that follows publication of details of Russians allegedly involved in clandestine intelligence operations abroad.

The bill, produced by Russia’s communications ministry, bars unauthorized people from creating and publishing databases of personal data drawn from official sources, and fines anyone violating that rule.

It also requires that state agencies setting up systems for handling personal data consult with the Federal Security Service
... the successor to the KGB...
, Russia’s main domestic intelligence agency.

The communications ministry did not respond to a request for comment from Rooters.

The bill, published late on Thursday, says it is in response to a 2017 instruction from President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
and makes no mention of the spate of leaks.

However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
Russian authorities have been embarrassed by leaks about two men Britannia alleges were Russian intelligence agents who used a nerve agent to poison former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter. Russia denies involvement.

The two men told Russian television they were innocent tourists who went to the English city of Salisbury, where Skripal was living, to view its cathedral.

But the Bellingcat investigative journalism website, drawing on leaked passport information, identified the two as officers with Russia’s GRU military intelligence agency.

In a separate case, a Russian accused in a U.S. indictment of conducting cyber attacks around the world was traced, via leaked official databases, to an address in Moscow that Washington says is a base for Russian military intelligence.

The legislation, comprising two draft laws and a draft government resolution, has been published for a 30-day period of public consultation, after which it will be submitted to parliament and the government for approval.

Russia has an active black market in illegal databases compiled using confidential information stolen from state-run registries. The data includes passport details, addresses, car registrations, flight manifests and even tax returns.

Releasing personal data in this way is already illegal under existing legislation, but Russian authorities have struggled to stamp out the practice. Many of the databases are openly available on the Internet.

The Grand Turk
Turkey indicts 28 people, including cleric Gulen, for 2016 assassination of Russian envoy
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
charged 28 people on Friday in relation to the 2016 liquidation of the Russian ambassador to Ankara, naming the U.S.-based Islamic holy man Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
as the prime suspect in the case, the state-owned Anadolu news agency said.

Andrei Karlov was rubbed out by an off-duty policeman while speaking at an Ankara exhibit opening in December 2016. The gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar" and "Don't forget Aleppo!" as he opened fire, apparently referring to Russia's involvement in Syria. He was rubbed out by police at the scene.

President Tayyip Erdogan has said Gulen's movement was behind the liquidation, a charge the holy man has denied. Erdogan also blames the preacher's network for an attempted military coup in July 2016.

Gulen, who has lived in self-imposed exile in the United States since 1999, has condemned the coup and denied any involvement with it.

Authorities charged Gulen and 27 others of attempting to "overthrow the constitutional order", "being a member of a terrorist organization" and of premeditated murder, Anadolu said.

Prosecutors say the Gulen's organization was attempting to derail relations between Turkey and Russia with the killing. At the time of the December 2016 killing of Karlov, ties between the two countries had already been strained, after Turkey downed a Russian war plane over Syria a year earlier.

Since Karlov's liquidation, ties between Ankara and Moscow have made steady improvement.

on the Chinese consulate earlier in the day, the former minister said a "very ominous thing has happened".

Asif said a very big example of this "patronage" is Kulbhushan Jadhav and that the "so-called secessionist movements" in the country also have the same backing whether it comes from people operating within Pakistain or from those residing in Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
or UK.

While lauding the opening of Kartarpur as a positive step, whereby Sikh pilgrims can physically go and pay their respects at the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib rather than look at it from afar through binoculars, he regretted that no way has "India's venom scaled down" when it comes to Pakistain.

Afghanistan
27 troops killed in blast at mosque in Afghan army base
[DAWN] An kaboom destroyed a mosque inside an Afghan army base in the country’s volatile eastern Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
as Friday prayers were drawing to a close, killing 27 soldiers and wounding 57, the military said.

The blast may have been set off by a jacket wallah or a remotely detonated bomb but nothing was officially confirmed and details were sketchy. No group immediately grabbed credit for the kaboom.

President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
condemned the attack in a statement as "anti-Islamic and inhumane". He also wanted to know how the army’s security was breached, demanding a swift investigation and the officials responsible held accountable.

It was the latest in a relentless, near-daily onslaughts in Afghanistan, where the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
regularly target Afghan military and police forces throughout the country.

"There were soldiers lying everywhere and the smoke was so thick, it was difficult to see," said Abdullah, a front man at the base. Like most Afghans, he uses only one name.

The dead and maimed were rushed to a clinic within the army base, while the more seriously maimed were taken to a nearby hospital.

Sakhi Sardar, head of the hospital in Khost said most of the maimed were being treated for devastating shrapnel wounds.

The defence ministry deployed four helicopters to the Ismail Khel district where the attack occurred to ferry the worst of the maimed to hospitals in Kabul.
Tolo News adds:
Captain Abdullah, a front man for the 2nd Regiment of Army in Mandozai district in Khost said the ANA members were busy in Friday prayers when the suicide kaboom happened at around 1:30pm Kabul time.

He said at least 10 army members were killed and 15 others were maimed in the kaboom.

According to him, all the soldiers were from the 2nd Regiment of Afghan National Army in Mandozai district in Khost.

Eyewitnesses and sources from Khost said the casualties are higher than expressed by army officials.

Arabia
UAE to consider ‘clemency’ for convicted Briton
[DAWN] The ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in London said on Friday his government is studying whether to grant clemency to a convicted British academic sentenced to life in prison for espionage.

Ambassador Sulaiman Hamid Almazroui said that academic Matthew Hedges’ family has requested clemency and the government is considering it.

He said the espionage case against the 31-year-old Hedges "was an extremely serious case" and that he had been convicted based on "compelling evidence" after a full and fair judicial process.

"The crimes Mr Hedges was accused of are extremely serious. For the UAE, like all countries, protecting our national security must be our first priority," he said.

The ambassador denied claims that Hedges received only a brief court hearing before being convicted on very serious charges and said the British academic had proper legal representation in court.

The ambassador says he has met with British officials to discuss the case, which has threatened close ties between the two friendly countries.

Hedges is a PhD student who was tossed in the calaboose

Sri Lanka
Rajapakse critics win control of parliament panel
[DAWN] Lawmakers opposed to disputed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse won control of a key committee setting parliament’s agenda during a vote on Friday that dealt a severe blow to his leadership.

Sri Lanka has been in a political crisis since Oct 26 when the president abruptly fired Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and appointed Rajapakse. Both claim to be the legitimate officeholder, with Wickremesinghe saying he has majority support in parliament and his firing was invalid.

Last week, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya announced Sri Lanka had no prime minister or government after parliament passed no-confidence motions against Rajapakse. Both Sirisena and Rajapakse have refused to accept the results of the motions, saying proper procedures were not followed.

When parliament was convened on Friday, Jayasuriya announced the members of the Parliament Selection Committee as seven Rajapakse opponents and five supporters.

Lawmakers backing Rajapakse refused to accept the list, arguing that they run the government and therefore should have the majority on the committee according to parliamentary traditions.

Opponents of Rajapakse said they should control the committee because they have a majority in parliament and they requested a vote.

Before the vote was taken, Wimal Weerawansa, a politician supporting Rajapakse, accused Jayasuriya of violating the parliamentary traditions and being partial to Wickremesinghe. Jayasuriya was elected to parliament from Wickremesinghe’s United National Party "If you don’t accept the prime minister and the Cabinet of ministers, we also don’t accept you as the speaker of this parliament," Weerawansa said, before walking out with others supporting Rajapakse.

‘Engineered protests’ won’t be allowed, says army chief
[DAWN] Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Thursday that “engineered protests” would not be allowed to reverse the gains of counterterrorism operations and cautioned the nation against forgetting sacrifices of “real heroes”.

The army chief was speaking to notables in Peshawar and at an investiture ceremony at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Gen Bajwa did not name the social movement for the rights of Pakhtun people, Pakhtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), but it was abundantly clear from his remarks, which included references to PTM’s demands for clearance of mines and removal of check-posts, that he was referring to their protests.

Dozens killed in the name of honour in Balochistan, says report
[DAWN] Around 50 people, including 30 women, have been killed by their relatives in the name of honour in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
this year so far. Nasirabad division tops the list in the number of killings.

The Aurat Foundation ‐ a non-governmental organization ‐ working for protection of the rights of women, disclosed the information in its annual report, unveiled by its programme officer Muhammad Ashfaq Mengal at a presser here on Friday.

"All these victims were deprived of their lives by their close relatives, including husbands, brothers and other relatives in the name of so-called honour and small family feuds," he said. He added that all these cases were registered in different cop shoppes in Nasirabad and other towns and cities.

He said that the foundation’s report was based on the incidents reported. He added that the number of honour killing cases could be much higher because many incidents were not reported.

Mr Mengal further disclosed that at least 17 women did away with himself over small family disputes in the province while 29 people were tortured including 21 women.

Murad orders intelligence-based operations against militants, abettors
[DAWN] Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed law enforcement agencies to speed up intelligence-based operations against forces of Evil in the city.

"The attempt to attack the Chinese consulate general shows that still there are abettors of forces of Evil in the city," he said while presiding over a special meeting on law and order here at the CM House on Friday.

The CM directed the inspector general of police (IGP) to investigate the incident like the police had previously investigated some other high-profile cases including the Safoora bus carnage so that the abettors of forces of Evil in the city could be eliminated.

He also directed the IGP to conduct a security audit of all the diplomatic missions/consulates and install most sensitive CCTV cameras in the vicinities of the foreign missions.

The meeting was attended by CM’s Adviser Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, IG Dr Kaleem Imam, Home Secretary Kazi Kabir, Commissioner Iftikhar Shalwani, Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
police chief Dr Amir Sheikh, representatives of Pakistain Rangers, provincial heads of intelligence agencies and representative of the army’s Corps 5.

He said that after the recent kaboom in Quaidabad Friday’s attack was the second such incident in the city.

He said that the heavily armed snuffies must have stayed somewhere in the city and travelled from their place to Clifton. He questioned why they were not checked anywhere.

"This shows that our snap-checking system needs to be more effective and strict," he said, directing the city police chief to ensure snap checking of vehicles in the city.

Briefing the CM, the IGP said: "On Nov 23, at about 9.30am unknown armed forces of Evil armed with heavy weapons and grenades attacked the Chinese Consulate General near the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, in Block-4 Clifton. The Sindh police’s special security unit and Rangers reached the scene and killed all three terrorists. Two civilians died, one private security guard was maimed. All were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre."

The chief minister directed the IGP to get the incident investigated properly. "This must be worked out as the police have worked out high-profile cases like Safoora carnage and others," he said.

The chief minister was told that the Clifton police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) were investigating the case.

The CM directed the IGP to look after the families of the slain coppers, who valiantly laid down their lives in the line of duty.

He also asked to make necessary arrangements for shifting of the bodies of the two civilians to their native town in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...

First 100 days of PTI were a failure: JI chief
[DAWN] The nation had high hopes from the PTI, but the steps taken so far by the new government has only led to disappointment, said Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
(JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq
...current head of the Pak Jamaat-e-Islami. Siraj was born in 1962 and entered politics shortly after that...
on Friday.

Talking to mediapersons at the residence of party leader Ghiasuddin Balban, he said the first 100 days of the new government were a failure.

The JI chief said the rulers talk a lot about bringing improvements to the country’s economy but do not take practical steps.

Asked if the PTI government will be able to complete its five-year tenure, Mr Haq said people are upset about massive price hikes and increase in the prices of utilities, especially gas, electricity and petrol within the first 100 days.

The senator said there had been no change in protocol rules despite tall claims made pre-election.

He said the Karachi attack was aimed at putting a dent in Pak-China relations and that he believed foreign elements were involved in the incident.

The International Space Station is infested with mysterious and potentially dangerous space bugs
[METRO.CO.UK] Scientists have discovered a thriving ecosystem of ‘infectious organisms’ aboard the International Space Station. A Nasa team found five different varieties of Enterobacter, which are similar to bugs found in hospitals down here on Earth. The toilet of the orbiting space base was one of the main sites of infection along with the exercise area. Researchers calculated that there is a ‘79% probability that they may potentially cause disease’, although analysis has only been carried out on dead samples at this stage so this risk could prove to be higher or lower following further research.

"By insisting on denying the right of independent Sunnis, the PM-designate has harmed everyone. He has harmed the presidential tenure, the anticipated government, the Lebanese economy and the political atmosphere, which has become more tense and polarized," Hizbullah central council member Sheikh Nabil Qaouq said.

"The solution is ultimately with the PM-designate and any procrastination or disregard for the course of representing all political forces would aggravate the problem," the Hizbullah official warned.

He added: "Is it in the interest of the government, the people, the Lebanese and the political forces to form a government of political divisions or a government of political accord? From our position we say that it can’t be a government of political accord if a broad segment of the Lebanese society is excluded and eliminated."|

Gunmen Kill Two Activists in Northwest Syria
[An Nahar] Two activists critical of both the regime and jihadists were bumped off Friday in Syria's last major rebel bastion in the northwest of the country, their radio station and a monitor said.

Citizen journalist Raed Fares and Hamod Jnaid were "rubbed out by unknown assailants riding in a van in the town of Kafr Nabel" in Idlib province, Fresh FM said on its Facebook page.

More than half of Idlib and the surrounding region is controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
, an alliance led by jihadists of Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate, while most of the rest is held by pro-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
rebels.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group also has a presence in the province.

Targeted killings and kidnappings have for months plagued Idlib, with angry residents blaming all sides.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based war monitor, said the two men died of their wounds from the attack, for which there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

"They were famous for their criticism of rebels committing violations or arresting civilians, especially when it came to jihadist groups," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

"Both have several times been detained by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham," he said.

Throughout Syria's seven-year uprising, Fares has been known for his often humorous signs in English and Arabic criticizing Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
's regime.

Fares founded Fresh FM in 2013 to counter "fundamentalist narratives" in Idlib, he has said, after which he was repeatedly targeted by gangs.

IS bandidos turbans raided the radio's offices on several occasions, but it was also bombarded by regime forces, he wrote in an op-ed for the Washington Times in June.

"In 2014, I almost lost my life when two gunnies shot up me and shot me in the chest," he said.

"I was kidnapped four times by al-Qaeda bandidos turbans and released a few days later after being tortured."

Jnaid, who also worked at the radio, was an advocate for freedom of expression and the rule of law.

"I want freedom of opinion. I want to be able to speak and not be scared," he said in a video posted on Facebook earlier this year.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Hopes for Trade War Solution at G20 Xi-Trump Talks
[An Nahar] China said Friday it hopes U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and Chinese leader Xi Jinping can find a solution to the trade war when they meet at the G20 summit next week.

The talks in Argentina
...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita...
come as the two countries have failed to reach any agreement to resolve a dispute that escalated after Trump slapped huge tariffs on Chinese goods, prompting tit-for-tat responses.

"We hope that both sides can work together on the basis of mutual respect, balance, honesty, and mutual benefit and finally find a solution to solve the problem," Wang Shouwen, Chinese vice minister of commerce, said at a press briefing in Beijing.

Wang said global trade faces a "complex situation", with "unilateralism and protectionism on the rise" creating uncertainty for economic development.

China hopes the G20 will uphold its backing of multilateralism at the summit, which will take place from November 30 to December 1 in Buenos Aires.

Beijing also backs reform of the World Trade Organization to enhance its authority and effectiveness, he said.

Trump said Thursday he was "very prepared" for the meeting with Xi.

Washington has threatened to toughen measures even further if the issue is not resolved before January.

"China wants to make a deal. If we can make a deal, we will," Trump said.

The United States has imposed punitive tariffs on Chinese goods worth $250 billion per year. In retaliation, China imposed tariffs on $110 billion of U.S. goods.

Earlier this month, Xi and Trump discussed the U.S.-China trade conflict, as well as North Korea's nuclear program, during a phone conversation that Trump called "very good."

Xi said he was "very happy" to talk to Trump again.

Europe
Gibraltar Rocks Final Stages of Brexit Negotiation
[An Nahar] Preparations for a summit to endorse Britannia's deal to quit the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
risked running aground on the rock of Gibraltar on Friday, as Spain defended its veto over the fate of the tiny territory.

Britannia's Prime Minister Theresa May and leaders of the other 27 EU member states are to meet Sunday to approve their divorce agreement and set a course for negotiating their future post-Brexit relationship.

But Spanish officials emerged from talks on Friday warning that Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez might not attend if London does not put in writing a promise that no future accord on EU relations involving Gibraltar will be signed without Madrid's specific assent.

"We have demanded that it be published by the British authorities before the European Council on Sunday," Luis Marco Aguiriano Nalda, state secretary for European affairs, told news hounds in Brussels.

Both British and EU negotiators said that the withdrawal agreement itself would not change at this stage, but in London a front man for Number 10 had earlier said: "We will work with the governments of Gibraltar and Spain on our future relationship."

It was not immediately clear if this promise would be enough to shift the logjam. In legal terms, Spain's disapproval would not halt the divorce settlement, but would embarrass EU leaders keen to show that the 27 remain united despite Brexit tensions.

And, as Aguiriano noted, any final relationship negotiated between London and Brussels after Brexit day on March 29 would eventually have to be approved by all remaining member states -- giving Spain a de facto veto further down the line.

May is due in Brussels on Saturday to see EU Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker, but diplomats told AFP that no more substantive negotiations would take place and that Sunday's summit would simply see leaders sign off on the fruit of 17 months of dialogue.

Energy Firms Track Plunge in Oil, Asia Markets Temper Losses
I'm in Oklahoma City right now. I saw gas at $1.979. Bad for oil workers, good for drivers.
[An Nahar] Energy companies suffered further losses on Wednesday following a collapse in oil prices while most Asian markets fell, but with the sharp losses witnessed in the morning being tempered.

Nissan recovered marginally after La Belle France and Japan sought to reassure on the future of its tie-up with Renault following the arrest of head Carlos Ghosn on Monday, although Mitsubishi extended its drop.

While investors in all sectors are essentially in selling mode of late, firms linked to the oil industry are among the worst hit as the price of crude continues to plunge on concerns about demand and high production.

The commodity took another battering on Tuesday, with both main contracts down more than six percent following another Wall Street sell-off and as traders fret that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. might not deliver on planned production cuts.

Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's support for Riyadh in the case of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi has been taken by some observers as a move to prevent them from lowering output at the December meeting of OPEC and non-OPEC members.

"At the heart of the matter is the lack of market respect for OPEC rhetoric regarding deep production cuts, (which) have been ignored as the market now questions if the projected reduction would be entirely sufficient to rebalance markets given the expected glut in the first quarter," said Stephen Innes, head of Asia-Pacific trade at OANDA.

Adding to the dour mood is the China-US trade war -- which shows no signs of easing just a week before Trump and China's Xi Jinping are due to meet -- as well as US waivers on buying Iranian oil and a slowing global economy.

Crude prices have plunged almost 30 percent from their four-year highs touched at the start of October.

Brent and WTI rose Wednesday but regional energy shares fell. Hong Kong-listed CNOOC lost more than three percent, while PetroChina and Sinopec were more than one percent off. Inpex dived 3.3 percent in Tokyo and Woodside Petroleum lost 2.1 percent in Sydney.

Clashes break out as IDF forces raid Palestinian wedding in Hebron
[IsraelTimes] Troops find rifle and ammunition that Israel says were intended to be used in a West Bank attack
The big one that was recently foiled or aniother one?
Soldiers from the IDF’s Golani Brigade raided a wedding in the West Bank city of Hebron
...Hamas Central in the West Bank...
on Friday, looking for illegal weapons, Army Radio reported.

During the raid, festivities broke out with the guests who threw stones at the troops, who responded with riot dispersal means, the report said. No IDF soldiers were hurt and it was not immediately clear if there were injuries on the Paleostinian side.

The soldiers found a rifle and ammunition, which had been intended to be used in a terror attack, the radio report said.

Troops routinely carry out raids in the West Bank looking for weapons and terror suspects; however, raiding a crowded wedding is rare.

Hebron, home to the Tomb of the Patriarchs, is a frequent flashpoint city where a few hundred heavily guarded Jewish settlers live in close proximity to tens of thousands of Paleostinians.

, after at least 44 soldiers were killed at the weekend.

Dozens more were suspected to have bit the dust in the attack on the base in Metele village, in Borno state near the border with Niger, although numbers have not been confirmed.

President Muhammadu Buhari made defeating the Islamist murderous Moslems a key plank of his 2015 election campaign and has said the jihadists were "technically defeated".

But that claim has been called into question by repeated attacks, including suicide kabooms and raids targeting civilians and the military.

Neither the government nor the military has commented on the latest deaths, which were claimed by the IS-backed Boko Haram faction, the Islamic State

But Buhari's main challenger at next February's election, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), sent a condolence message to the families of those who were killed.

He was also reported as saying on Friday that the losses were "a clear sign that our troops need to be better funded and better equipped".

On Thursday night, Senate leader Bukola Saraki, a Buhari critic who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP earlier this year, also spoke out about the deaths.

10,000 Palestinians protest on Gaza border
It’s Friday, and so those employed by Hamas must provide the dreary service they’re being paid for.
[IsraelTimes] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", security forces preventing most demonstrators from reaching the border fence; 14 Paleostinians said hurt

Some 10,000 Paleostinians gathered on the Gazoo border on Friday for weekly protests, with Hamas security forces keeping most demonstrators away from the fence for the second consecutive week following a ceasefire with Israel.

The protests were largely peaceful, however there were still sporadic reports of violence with Paleostinians throwing rocks at IDF troops. There was one incident where a group attacked the fence east of the city of Rafah.

The Hamas-run Gazoo health ministry reported 14 maimed, including several by live fire.

This was the second week of limited festivities. Last Friday a Paleostinian was killed and more than a dozen were maimed a week after a major flareup between Israel and terror groups in the Strip.

Since March, Paleostinians have been holding weekly "March of Return" protests on the border, which Israel has accused Gazoo’s Hamas rulers of using to carry out attacks on troops and attempt to breach the security fence. Hamas, an Islamist terror group, seeks to destroy Israel.

Israel has demanded an end to the violent demonstrations along the border in any ceasefire agreement.

Last Friday, nearly 10,000 Paleostinians participated in riots and demonstrations near the border. Most people stayed away from the border fence, although some burned tires and threw rocks and explosives at soldiers who responded with tear gas and occasional live fire.

Those festivities came days after Israel engaged in the largest battle with Hamas and Paleostinian terror groups in Gazoo since the 2014 war.

Yemen Rebels Agree to Talks for 'U.N. Role' in Hodeida Port

...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...

peace mission in rebel-held Sanaa on Wednesday, said he has discussed with Huthi rebel officials "how the U.N. could contribute to keeping the peace" in Hodeida.

"I am here to tell you today that we have agreed that the U.N. should now pursue actively and urgently detailed negotiations for a leading U.N. role in the port and more broadly," he told news hounds during his first visit to Hodeida.

Griffiths urged Yemen's warring parties to "keep the peace" in the port city.

"The attention of the world is on Hodeida. Leaders from every country have called for us all to keep the peace in Hodeida," he said.

Griffiths was in the country ahead of planned peace talks in Sweden in December between the Iran-aligned Houthis and pro-government forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition.

Both warring sides have expressed support for the envoy's mission to hold discussions to end a war that has pushed the country to the brink of famine.

He intended to travel to the Saudi city of Jeddah aboard a Middle East Airlines flight, the agency added.

"He was referred to the administrative and judicial law enforcement unit where he confessed to smuggling Captagon pills," NNA said.

"He was later detained and referred to the Central Anti-Narcotics Bureau at the request of the relevant judicial authorities," the agency added.

#1  As far as I can tell, producing, smuggling, and using captagon is the regional sport. Wikipedia tells us a Saudi princeling was arrested a few years ago for smuggling two tons of the stuff on his personal jet, and all sides manufactured Captagon for sale and personal use during the Syrian conflagration. Mr.A.Q., 28, is a piker — often the arrests involve ton lots of the stuff.

KSA Dismisses Sexual Harassment Reports as 'Baseless'
[An Nahar] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
dismissed Friday as "baseless" reports that detained activists, including women, faced sexual harassment and torture during interrogation.

"These recent reports by Amnesia Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are baseless," the kingdom said in a statement.

The government said that it "strongly denies" the accusations that are "simply wrong."

The activists, held since May in Dhahban prison on the western Red Sea coast, have faced repeated electrocution and flogging, leaving some of them unable to stand or walk, Amnesia Amnesty International said on Tuesday, citing three separate testimonies.

At least one activist was made to hang from a ceiling, Amnesty added.

In addition to the torture, at least three women activists also endured "forcible kissing and hugging", Human Rights Watch said in a separate statement also on Tuesday.

The reports came as Saudi Arabia faces intense global criticism over the killing of insider-turned-critic Jamal Khashoggi in its Istanbul consulate on October 2, which tipped the kingdom into one of its worst crises.

More than a dozen activists were locked away

in May -- just before the historic lifting of a decades-long ban on women drivers the following month.

Many of them were accused of undermining security and aiding enemies of the state. Some were subsequently released.

Returnees Count Cost of Destruction in Libya's Tawergha
[An Nahar] Returning home after seven years in a camp for displaced people, Mahmoud Abou al-Habel's joy was eclipsed by pain when he surveyed his vandalized property in the Libyan town of Tawergha.

A burned out car, blackened date palms and damaged brickwork testify to the hostility that forced him and 26 family members to the relative safety of Tripoli

's outskirts, 240 kilometers (150 miles) away.

"I had planted 184 date palms -- but most of them were burned, like my 150 pomegranate trees and 28 olive trees," Habel said.

"It is heartbreaking to see them, because I planted them myself," he told AFP, as he watered surviving palms via a pump with power from a generator.

Habel and 40,000 fellow residents of Tawergha and its surroundings were banished because they were seen as supporting former dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
right up to his bloody 2011 demise.

After being chased away by militia from the nearby city of Misrata, the displaced townsfolk were forbidden from returning home, until a reconciliation deal brokered in June by the internationally-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA).

Iraq
Top Kurdish Leader Meets Iraq PM in Sign of Thawing Ties
[An Nahar] Prominent Kurdish leader Massud Barzani met with Iraqi premier Adel Abdel Mahdi in Baghdad on Thursday during his first visit to the capital in over two years.

Barzani's visit is seen as another sign of an improvement in relations between Baghdad and Iraqi Kurdistan that deteriorated sharply after the autonomous region held an independence referendum last year.

The prime minister's office announced the meeting just after noon on Thursday, sharing a photograph of Barzani dressed in a dark grey suit instead of his usual Kurdish garb.

Barzani previously served as the Iraqi Kurds' president and now heads the prominent Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), which emerged victorious in regional parliamentary elections in September.

Last year's independence vote saw more than 92 percent of Kurds back secession, but the federal government rejected the poll as "illegal," imposed economic penalties and seized the disputed Kirkuk oil fields, halting exports.

But since Abdel Mahdi was appointed premier in October, relations appear to have improved between Baghdad and Kurdish leaders in the regional capital Arbil.

Barzani's favoured candidate Fuad Hussein was appointed Iraq's minister of finance later that month, and the two sides announced a deal last week to resume Kirkuk oil exports.

"It's very important for us to have good, smooth relations between Arbil and Baghdad. We've seen a huge improvement on all levels," Abdel Mahdi told news hounds on Wednesday.

According to an Iraqi official with knowledge of the visit, the pair are expected to discuss the lagging government formation process and the Kurdistan region's share of the federal budget.

[IsraelTimes] Israeli report, broadcast under scrutiny of military censor, says Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, is carrying out arrests, checking cars as it tries to work out what Israel has been up to in Strip

Gazoo’s Hamas rulers are in some disarray after their chance discovery of Israeli special forces in a raid last week, and fear that elite Israel troops have been operating for an unknown length of time under their noses in the Strip, including running a base, an Israeli TV report said Friday.

According to the Hadashot news report, which it said was broadcast under the careful scrutiny of the Israeli military censor, Hamas is struggling to figure out exactly what the IDF team was doing in Gazoo. The November 11 raid, which went awry when the undercover troops were exposed, ended in a shootout and the deaths of one Israeli soldier and seven Hamas button men.

Britain
UK Releases New Clips of Russian Nerve Agent Attack Suspects
[An Nahar] British police have released CCTV footage of two suspected Russian intelligence agents walking toward Sergei Skripal's home on the day of the former spy's poisoning with a nerve agent.

The clips show the Russians -- known by the aliases Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov -- appearing to take photographs on their arrival in the English city of Salisbury on March 4.

Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found slumped unconscious on a park bench that same afternoon.

British police believe they were poisoned by a Soviet-era nerve agent called Novichok designed by Moscow specifically to conduct liquidations abroad.

Russia denies that the two men are members of its GRU military intelligence service. It also says the Novichok could have come from a nearby British or some other laboratory.

Nick Bailey, a British police officer who searched Skripal's home after the father and daughter were found, was also exposed to the nerve agent and spent weeks in hospital.

In an interview with the BBC Panorama program on Thursday, Bailey said he knew something was wrong when his "pupils were like pin pricks" and he became "quite sweaty and hot."

"Knowing how the other two (the Skripals) were or how badly they'd been affected by it, I was petrified," said Bailey.

He said the substance could have killed "thousands" of people.

Kremlin front man Dmitry Peskov on Friday repeated Russia's denials and said Britannia had refused Moscow's offer to assist in the investigation.

#1  a Soviet-era nerve agent called Novichok designed by Moscow specifically to conduct assassinations abroad.

Really? That's the story we're shopping now?
According to the often entertaining and sometimes reliable Wikipedia article on Novichok:
These agents were designed to achieve four objectives:
* to be undetectable using standard 1970s and 1980s NATO chemical detection equipment;
* to defeat NATO chemical protective gear;
* to be safer to handle;
* to circumvent the Chemical Weapons Convention list of controlled precursors, classes of chemical and physical form

Likely the last item was of great importance. If you are trying to do something illegal, it helps if no one realizes you are doing it. Ordering industrial quantities of embargoed chemicals is a big giveaway.

(afflicted cop) said the substance could have killed "thousands" of people.
Yep, that is definitely one of my requirements for a covert assassination tool. Poking a person with a poisoned umbrella is simply passé.

This story has been hinky from the beginning and the 'facts' that get released only make my spider sense ever more tingly. Maybe I should rub some atropine on it.

/disclaimer: never actually done any covert assassination
(btw, what's the statute of limitations on that? asking for a friend)
