#4  From Skidmark’s Daily Mail link:

Cesar Altier Sayoc, 56, was taken into custody on Friday morning in Plantation, Florida in connection with the 12 suspicious packages that have been discovered this week.

According to Sayoc’s Facebook page, he is a Trump fan who posted pictures and videos of himself at one of the President’s rallies in October 2016.

He posted a photograph of himself wearing a MAGA hat in front of the US Capitol in 2017.

He is Native American, and according to a picture posted on his social media page, he is a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

NPR just describe him as a registered Republican... and nothing more.

#10  Anyone else here think the van decorations reek of "gilding the lily"? On the one hand we've got these "bombs" apparently put together by the local preschool drama department, and van windows completely covered, all nicely and evenly laid out, screaming "right wing nut case on board!". I'd bet every window sticker was put on this week, because a van with such decorations wouldn't last long in that area.

Arrest Made In Plantation In Connection To Package Bombs
See also this posted below, and the original Day 3 post summarizing the situation as of last night.
[Miami.CBSLocal] Federal authorities have arrested a man in Plantation in connection to a series of package bombs that have been sent to top Democrats and President Trump critics, according to CBS News.

The man was taken into custody at an auto parts store on State Road 7 at SW 6th Street around 10:30 a.m. A "loud explosion" was heard at the time of the arrest, possibly from a flash bang device used by FBI in the course of making the arrest.

A law enforcement source told CBS4 the man is 56-years-old and they were led to him through DNA evidence.

The man is reportedly from Aventura, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.

The FBI also wrapped a blue tarp over the top of a white van in the parking lot, to preserve any evidence, before it was put on a flatbed truck and taken to an FBI facility.

Friday morning, the existence of two more package bombs were revealed by authorities.

The 11th suspicious package has been found at an Opa-locka mail facility, it was addressed to New Jersey Senator Cory Booker.

It was discovered Thursday night and it is similar in appearance to the others that were sent to prominent Democrats and critics of President Donald Trump.

In New York Friday morning, police responded to a suspicious package at a postal facility in midtown Manhattan. The package was similar to the others and was addressed to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper at the Time Warner Center where CNN has its New York bureau.

On Thursday, the FBI and the Miami-Dade Police Department bomb squad spent hours at a United States Postal Service mailing distribution center in Opa-locka.

CBS News confirmed several packages may have originated at the facility. Postal inspectors have been poring through millions of pieces of mail, searching for similar packages.

The FBI stated every single suspicious package has the name and address of Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz’s Sunrise office. All of the parcels were sent in similar packaging and the devices were made to appear like active bombs. Investigators are working to determine whether the bombs were just poorly designed or if they were simply meant to scare the recipients.

Besides the FBI analyzing the devices in Virginia, CBS News reports investigators are looking through surveillance video from the Opa-locka facility, especially video from cameras in the self-mailing area.

The FBI is also looking for video at neighboring businesses.

Friday’s development comes one day after three additional packages ‐ the 8th, 9th and 10th in the series ‐ were found addressed to Robert De Niro and Joe Biden.
And now we play "Name the Party".

Hercules and alleged MS-13 member Nery Rodriguez Diaz were arrested in the Bremen Street Park, near Marion Street, on May 22.

Diaz has yet to either plead or come to trial.

Hercules, a Salvadoran national, had sentencing set for Jan. 17 by US District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor, who has been handling MS-13 cases related to a 2016 sweep. Hercules faces up to ten years in federal prison.

In 2015, a federal judge ordered Hercules's deportation - in absentia.

Rush Limbaugh comments on Governor Kasich's Caravan Guilt Trip
[Rush] I switched over to CNN, and I caught the governor of Ohio there, John Kasich, and he is being interviewed by... I don’t know who the reporter was at CNN. Doesn’t matter. Being interested by the caravan and America and how to deal with it. I just want you to hear this. We have two bites. Here’s No. 1.

KASICH: We have a caravan coming north. We don’t want all those people coming across our border. And there are ways to deal with it. I believe that if we would check those who are legitimately in need of asylum could be vetted before they even get to the border. But, you know what? We’re born in America. You know how lucky we are to be born in America and not be born in Guatemala, where they would say to your daughter, you know, if you don’t do what we want, we will rape your daughter or we will kill your son if he’s not a drug mule? Now, they’re marching north. And, you know what? It could easily have been all of us, that we’re in the caravan, that we’re marching north, trying to save our families and save our children.

RUSH: All right. So what is... The ruse here, or the technique here, is moral equivalence. There but for the grace of God go I. Phil Donahue used to do this all the time, Phil Donahue would host his show and when the subject of illegal immigration would come up, he’d start preaching about the accident of his birth. "You know, I was born just a few miles inside the U.S. border, and look at the difference it’s made for me."

And he started extolling the guilt that he felt over how the accident of his birth resulted in him being an American and how basically unfair that was to other people in the world. As though being born into a country of prosperity and decency is something to feel guilty about. And it may be something to feel very grateful for. I have no quarrel with that. But it’s how you deal with this that matters. We simply can’t take in everybody in the world.

#2  Survivor's guilt pushed on the rest of us?

OK, take in everyone born into a bad situation in another country. Where would that leave the US? It would be the same here as everywhere else, and there would be no chance whatsoever for a better future for anyone.
Posted by: gorb || 10/26/2018 10:27 Comments || Top||

#3  Being a wealthy American wracked with guilt, it is possible for Kasich to go to the third world and help promote capitalism and the kind of institutions that lead to a wealthy country.

Simply teaching nations to model their politics and economics on success and not failure would be a start. Latin America should look to Chile which has become a first world country now (or damned close to it) while their neighbors languish in the same old poverty that results from communist thinking.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 10/26/2018 10:40 Comments || Top||

#4  From what Kasich is saying we should train an army of asylum seekers and other volunteers to overthrow the Guatamala/El Salvador/Nicaragua govts that are causing refugees in the first place.

The refugees coming in are lucky ones. Dont those in the caravan care about the poor saps they left back in Central America?
Posted by: Penguin_of_the_Desert || 10/26/2018 11:03 Comments || Top||

#5  It's easy to reply to Phil Donahue's argument or John Kasich's argument. Imagine you are on a lifeboat after a the Titanic sank. There are thousands of people in the water all clamoring to get onto the boat. But the boat can only carry so many people before it becomes unstable and sinks just like the Titanic. Who benefits from that?

Then imagine the United States as a Third World socialist shit hole just like the countries from which these invaders are coming. Who benefits from that?

Europe
France has a compassionate plan to help young refugees make friends and get jobs
Reader Caution, Quartz reporting.
[Quartz] Omar and Mohammed are cousins from Damascus, and they’ve traveled a long way to get here.

The two men, both in their early 20s, fled their native Syria to avoid military conscription. They embarked upon the same journey as millions of other refugees, first arriving in Turkey and then taking a boat to the shores of Greece. But unlike many other refugees, they got lucky. They were resettled in Nancy, France, in 2017, as part of the European Union’s migrant relocation and resettlement scheme.

Today, they’re members of a volunteer civil service program, similar to that of AmeriCorps in the US, created by the French government with the goal of helping young refugees between the ages of 16 and 25 become integrated into French society. It’s a creative solution to an issue that’s plagued many European countries in recent years: In the aftermath of an unprecedented wave of refugee resettlement in Europe, what can be done to strengthen ties between refugees and their communities?

A civic way to help the most vulnerable

At the height of the refugee crisis in 2015, an estimated 42,500 people were leaving their native countries every day because of war, persecution, and oppression. That year, over 1 million migrants and asylum seekers arrived in Europe. The subsequent political backlash against refugees has brought anti-immigrant politicians to power in countries like Germany, Austria, Hungary, Italy, and Poland.

France is no exception. In 2017, far-right leader Marine Le Pen made it to the runoff of the presidential election partly because of her anti-immigration views (paywall). That same year, 100,755 people requested asylum or legal protection (link in French) from the French government. Of those, 31,964 were granted asylum or subsidiary protection status‐21% more than in 2016 (pdf).

Caribbean-Latin America
Meet The Obscure Russian Bank Helping Venezuela Defy U.S. Sanctions
[Zero] A new Bloomberg report has exposed deepening Russian-Venezuelan ties as the Nicolas Maduro government attempts to thwart aggressive U.S. sanctions amidst continued economic collapse while cut off from the global economy. Bloomberg names a little known Moscow-based state-run bank called Evrofinance Mosnarbank as a "key player" based on high level sources with direct knowledge of the bank's role in giving Venezuelan companies access to the outside world, confirmed by recent statements of Caracas officials themselves.

It's not the first time the obscure bank has made headlines as last May it was revealed to be the world's only financial institution to sponsor Venezuela's experimental and now already in trouble before official launch state-backed cryptocurrency - called the petro - allowing investors to buy the petro by wiring a minimum of 1,000 euros to a Venezuelan government account at Evrofinance.

The bank is increasingly involved in Venezuelan markets, with its unique capital structure set up to delicately evade punitive oversight mechanisms while tapping into alternative markets ‐ something said to be the brainchild of Vladimir Putin and the late Hugo Chavez ‐ especially useful now as Maduro is forced to depend on the likes of Turkey, China, Russia and Iran.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
MSNBC Suggests Mail Bomb Suspect Reads Drudge Report & Fox News
[NTK] MSNBC’s Ben Collins suggested that person responsible for the mail-bomb scare that has targeted top officials in the Democratic Party, as well as CNN and actor Robert De Niro, probably reads the conservative news website the Drudge Report on Thursday.

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle began the segment with Collins by highlighting an image of the device sent to former CIA Director John Brennan. On the device, there appears to be an image of a parody ISIS flag that has been circulating on the internet since 2014 as a meme.

Ruhle asked Collins to walk her through what this all means for the ongoing investigation.

Collins noted that the image basically appears to be an ISIS flag. "But instead of the Arabic script, there’s like fake naked ladies on there, and it says ’get ’er done’ on it," he said.

"What does that mean?" Ruhle asked.

"It’s a Larry the Cable Guy joke. It’s like, not that sophisticated. This is not a smart thing, it’s a troll is what this is," Collins responded. "It’s meant to sort of symbolize that he’s on one [political] side. This is from a conservative meme parody website from 2014."

Collins added that this is a very obscure meme that didn’t get a lot of traction.

Ruhle asked Collins about the group that created the meme and what they represent.

"It’s just some guy really. It’s a guy in Scottsdale, Arizona who made a meme in 2014. It’s been around conservative web forums, not like young people [forums]," Collins said. "I’m talking like people who follow the Drudge Report and Fox News and stuff like that. It’s that sort of circle."

John Huber's FBI-Justice Department probe shrouded in mystery
[Wash Times] Roughly one year after U.S. Attorney John Huber was appointed to investigate whether accusations that the FBI and Justice Department abused their powers during the 2016 election season merit prosecution, his work remains shrouded in mystery.

Likely witnesses tell The Washington Times that they haven’t heard from him, though they are eager to tell what they know.

Nor has Mr. Huber kept congressional overseers in the loop on his activities.

"I would just like to know what he’s doing," Rep. Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican, told The Times. "I’ll take anything. All I know is that we haven’t heard a single thing about what he’s doing."

Mr. Jordan, a member of the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees, said those panels have not received any reports or updates from Mr. Huber since his appointment. He and Rep. Mark Meadows, North Carolina Republican, sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week asking for an update.

Mr. Meadows told The Times it is imperative that Mr. Huber appear before Congress to detail what he has been doing.

"I have not seen a lot of evidence that Mr. Huber has done anything other than be appointed by Jeff Sessions," he said. "It’s been portrayed that he’s making great progress, but I’m not sure there is a whole lot to show for it other than rhetoric right now. I’m not aware of any substantial work that he’s doing."

Mr. Sessions secretly picked Mr. Huber last fall to dig into whether the FBI misused its power when it obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant to monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. He also is supposed to be reviewing whether the FBI mishandled investigations into 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Sessions didn’t reveal the appointment until the spring, when he was under pressure to name a special counsel to investigate those issues. He said there was no need for such a step because the department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, was already looking into the matters. He also revealed that Mr. Huber, the U.S. attorney in Utah, was performing his own evaluation.

The benefit of Mr. Huber, the Justice Department said, is that as a U.S. attorney he could use grand jury subpoena powers to obtain documents and witness statements that the inspector general might not.

Economy
For years, growth stocks were fun and fantastic, until now
NEW YORK (AP) ‐ As stocks hit record after record in the past decade, investors didn’t much care if a stock was cheap or expensive. What mattered most was: Is it growing quickly?

If the answer was yes, the stock was in high demand, almost regardless of the price. Investors were ravenous for companies able to add customers and deliver fat growth. So they were willing to pay premium prices for an Amazon or a Netflix. Left behind were stocks in more staid industries, even if they looked like better bargains by several measures.

Suddenly, though, the siren song of high growth has gone dissonant. As markets tumbled in recent weeks, the stocks that were soaring the highest have fallen the fastest. Worries about interest rates and global trade are raising concerns about the companies’ future growth. Plus, high-growth stocks had further to fall given how much more expensive they had grown versus the rest of the market by various measures.

So far this month, high-growth stocks in the Russell 3000 index have sunk 9 percent, versus 6.5 percent for their lower-priced counterparts known as "value" stocks, as of Wednesday. It’s the biggest such monthly gap in performance since November 2016.

As Obama's monument to himself in Chicago is imperiled by lawsuits, Chicago Tribune implies poor blacks will be victimized
[American Thinker] Barf alert! Judging by this article in the Chicago Tribune, there must be serious worries that the planned giveaway (a 99 year lease at 10 cents a year) of 19.3 acres of precious, irreplaceable lakefront Chicago park land to a private monument to former President Trump Obama is in trouble. Starting with a picture of a pensive-looking black woman in shadows ‐ worth a look here ‐ the piece pulls out all the victimization stops, claiming, " anxiousness ... has swept over some residents and communities on the South Side as they brace for a possible long wait, a bitter fight or even another grand disappointment."

The article by Lolly Bowean and Jeff Coen features residents who regard the "Obama Presidential Center" as an unalloyed benefit to the poor communities that are nearby ‐ "a new historical treasure to [the] already culturally rich African-American community.

Gee, if the community is "already culturally rich," why does it need another cultural monument? Oh, that's right: "jobs and investment."

The Second Caravan Sealed the Democrats' Fate
[American Thinker] The herald of middle-American radicalism, Samuel Francis, famously described America's two parties as the evil party and the stupid party. Under our secular savior, Donald Trump, the political division in America is changing: there is no more stupid party, and the evil party is consuming itself. Vilfredo Pareto's classification of political elites as "Foxes and Lions" ‐ the quick and cunning versus the strong and stalwart ‐ now largely describes our two parties. The pure foxes among Republicans have mostly been silenced or have left the party; it now consists mainly of a protective pride of lions led by a dominant male more cunning than any fox. The Democrats' elites consist almost exclusively of foxes, and they are beset by a spreading plague of rabies.

Just in time to drive this division home with a sledgehammer and a ten-inch nail, the border crisis has exploded into America's consciousness.

On the heels of the now 14,000-strong human wave set to flood across our southern border in the coming weeks is another human army ‐ and then another, and likely many more. Faced with the prospect of paying human-smugglers $5,000-$10,000 to transport them to the American border, poor residents of Central American countries have come to realize that mass migrations are safer and cheaper. The invaders know they have allies on this side of our border. Most Democrat lawmakers remain silent; they are not proposing a solution because they don't see the invasion as a problem ‐ to them, it is a feature of our immigration laws, not a bug. Racialism is the new creed and currency of the left, so anything that swells the numbers of minorities in the United States is assumed by Democrat leaders to be a net benefit to the Democratic Party. With the advent of invading armies, the democrats could not be more mistaken.

First, notice what was not said as the army approached Mexico and Mexican authorities pledged to prevent it from entering their country. Whether this was possible was an open question ‐ but what was never questioned was the right of Mexico to stop them. Every leftist in Congress and in corporate media silently affirmed the right of the Mexican government to stop the army. The Democrats' immigration message is finally crystal-clear: other nations have a right to control their borders, but we do not, even in the face of foreign invasion. That is a politically untenable position.

#6  AlmostAnonymous5839, you are thinking of half of the Dunning-Kruger effect. As described by Wikipedia:

In the field of psychology, the Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people of low ability have illusory superiority and mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is. The cognitive bias of illusory superiority comes from the inability of low-ability people to recognize their lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of metacognition, low-ability people cannot objectively evaluate their actual competence or incompetence.

As described by social psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger, the cognitive bias of illusory superiority results from an internal illusion in people of low ability and from an external misperception in people of high ability; that is, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Prankster sent mayor penis-shaped candy. Cops were asked to investigate.
[NJ.com] Someone thought it was a good idea to send the mayor of Hamilton Township a bag of penis-shaped candy as a prank.

Mayor Kelly Yeade received a package of penis-shaped candy, sent through the website Dysfunctional Veterans, last week.

The group's website, and its accompanying Facebook page, describe its community as "a brotherhood and sisterhood of veterans rooted in sarcasms and the things that remind us we are not alone."

The Dysfunctional Veterans website sells a variety of items such as T-shirts, hats, mugs, flags, patches, and pranks.

The website offers "Eat a bag of d----" under its prank gift category with the following description:

"Don't you wish you could just tell that special idiot you know to eat a bag of d----? Wouldn't it be even better if you could actually give them a bag of d---- to eat? Now you can!"

Yaede's office received the candy last week, when the mayor wasn't in.

"My staff intercepted it and then asked the Hamilton Township police department to find out the origin of the package," Yaede told NJ Advance Media. "When I was alerted to it I didn't give it a second thought, and laughed it off."
It wasn't me who ordered the investigation. Apparently one of my staff was a little teste.
Dysfunctional Veterans made a post on their Facebook page about the police investigation including a screen shot of an email they received from the Hamilton Township Police Department, requesting to speak to someone at the company about the purchase.

MAJOR CRIMES: The Honorable Mayor of Hamilton NJ received a BAG OF DICKS... She has enlisted the help of her police department to investigate who sent this! Not just any cop either - she has a MAJOR CRIMES detective on it! As usual, we don't turn over the names of our customers unless we are compelled to by a court. The detective was cool by the way... go easy on him.
Anonymously send a BAG OF DICKS here --> https://bit.ly/2yvGOVv

Yaede then put an end to the brief investigation into who sent the candy.
"I took all the dicks off the case."
"It was a prank and that's all I took it as," Yaede said.
Good thing it wasn't you who made such a dick move.

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), the U.S. Justice Department reported on Thursday.

According to the Justice Department, Naser Almadaoji was arrested at the Columbus Intentional Airport while trying to travel to Kazakhstan in order to join the Islamic State terrorist organization.

Almadaoji, 19, was planning to travel from Kazakhstan to nearby Afghanistan, the Justice Department said.

"Naser Almadaoji allegedly attempted to seek terrorist training in weapons and tactics and discussed a willingness to conduct terrorist ’projects’ in the United States on behalf of foreign terrorist groups," said Assistant Attorney John C. Demers in a blurb.

"Protecting America from terrorist activity, including conduct like this, remains the highest priority of the Department of Justice," Demers continued.

"According to the charging document, Almadaoji wanted to make his way to Afghanistan to train with an ISIS organization," said U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Benjamin Glassman.

"He allegedly pledged allegiance to the leader of ISIS in a video in which he wore a head scarf, and had plans to cause conflict in America between the United States Government and anti-government militias. These are serious allegations, and thwarting terrorist threats remains a top priority for the United States Attorney’s Office," Glassman added.

Russia accuses US of coordinating jihadist drone attack on Syrian base
[ALMASDARNEWS] A senior Russian military official has accused the US of being directly involved in a drone attack on the Russian airbase in Syria’s Khmeimim. The aircraft were controlled from a US spy plane nearby, he claimed.

Kremlin front man Dmitry Peskov was speaking about a report made by Russia’s Defense Ministry. It said that the drone attack on the Russian airbase was directed from a US P-8 Poseidon surveillance plane.

The base located in Latakia governorate has been attacked by primitive drones on numerous occasions. According to Col. Gen. Aleksandr Fomin, Russia’s deputy defense minister, the attack on January 6 was done with direct help from the American military.

Speaking at a high-profile security forum in China, Fomin said a Boeing P-8 Poseidon was deployed in the area on that date, when 13 drones were launched to attack the Russian base. The US reconnaissance plane took control of the drones once the troops defending the base used electronic warfare to disrupt the control signals for the UAVs.

"They were controlled manually, and not by some peasant, but from a capable, well-equipped Poseidon plane," the Russian general said. He added that the drones were regrouped and directed to suspected zones of vulnerability in the defenses of the Russian base, most likely with the use of satellite data, before being destroyed by the Russian air defense forces.

U.S. airstrike leaves 3 ISIS IED planters dead in Nangarhar province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The U.S. forces in Afghanistan carried out an Arclight airstrike targeting a group of ISIS IED planters, leaving at least three of them dead.

The 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan Military in the East in a statement said a group of three ISIS gunnies were busy planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Payin area of Deh Bala district when they came under an airstrike of the coalition forces drone aircraft.

The statement further added that the airstrike left at least three ISIS gunnies dead.

The Talibs and other gunnies including ISIS often use improvised bomb as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and government officials.

However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
in majority of such attacks the ordinary civilians are killed while in some cases the Talibs are themselves blown up in premature kabooms.

Anti-government elements must immediately end the indiscriminate and disproportionate use of all improvised bombs (IEDs) in areas frequented by civilians, said UNAMA in a special human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
report released few days earlier.

The special report ‐ titled "Increasing Harm to Afghan Civilians form the Deliberate and Indiscriminate Use of Improvised Explosive Devices" ‐ documents a sharp increase from 1 January ‐ 30 September 2018 in the killing and maiming of Afghan civilians by IEDs, which have caused almost half of the civilian casualties from conflict-related violence.

Europe
European court rules insulting Prophet Mohammed ‘not freedom of expression’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled on Thursday that insulting Islam's Prophet Mohammed is not covered by freedom of expression.

Defaming the Prophet "goes beyond the permissible limits of an objective debate" and "could stir up prejudice and put at risk religious peace," the ruling stated.

The decision by a seven-judge panel came after an Austrian national identified as Mrs. S. held two seminars in 2009 in which she insulted the prophet.

The court said that the woman's comments could not be covered by the freedom of expression, stating that it had found that "the applicant's statements had been likely to arouse justified indignation in Moslems" and "amounted to a generalization without factual basis."

An Austrian court convicted her of disparaging religious doctrines in 2011 and fined her 480 euros (548 dollars), a judgment that was upheld on two appeals.

"Mrs. S. appealed but the Vienna Court of Appeal upheld the decision in December 2011, confirming, in essence, the lower court’s findings. A request for the renewal of the proceedings was dismissed by the Supreme Court on 11 December 2013," it said.

"Relying on Article 10 (freedom of expression), Mrs. S. complained that the domestic courts failed to address the substance of the impugned statements in the light of her right to freedom of expression."

On today’s ruling, the ECHR said it "found in particular that the domestic courts comprehensively assessed the wider context of the applicant’s statements and carefully balanced her right to freedom of expression with the right of others to have their religious feelings protected, and served the legitimate aim of preserving religious peace in Austria."

PM Mahdi: Iraq will prioritize own interests regarding Iran sanctions
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraq will prioritize its own interests and independence when it comes to helping the United States enforce sanctions against Iran, new Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said on Thursday.

President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s decision to withdraw the United States from a 2015 international nuclear accord with Tehran in May and re-impose sanctions has put Abdul Mahdi’s incoming government in a difficult position, since Iraq’s economy is closely intertwined with neighboring Iran’s.

"We want to secure Iraq from any interference in issues, affairs of other countries, whether it’s a neighboring country or it’s any other country in the world," Abdul Mahdi told a news conference in Baghdad.

The United States and Iran, increasingly at odds, are Iraq’s two biggest allies, and Washington has said there will be consequences for countries that do not respect the sanctions. Abdul Mahdi’s statement on Thursday did not deviate much from the stance of his predecessor, Haider al-Abadi.

In August Abadi said Iraq was against the sanctions "as a matter of principle", but that the country would follow them.

Iranian journalist arrested over ‘insults’ to Imam
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran’s judiciary has incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
a journalist over "insults" to Imam Hussein, one of the most revered religious figures in the Shiite Islamic republic, its news agency reported on Thursday.

Pouyan Khoshhal, who was being prosecuted over insults to Imam Hussein and (other) Imams, was arrested last night as he was trying to exit the country," Mizan Online reported.

The official Shiite narrative says that Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed, was killed in the seventh century while refusing the Caliph Yazid’s right to rule the Islamic world.

The annual commemoration of Ashura, which marks Hussein’s death, is one of the holiest days in Shiite Islam.

Khoshhal worked at the reformist Ebtekar daily and wrote a report on October 21 referring to Imam Hussein’s death as "passing away" instead of the officially accepted "martyrdom".

According to Mizan, this sparked "considerable outrage and criticism".

The judiciary also said that its investigations showed Khoshhal had repeatedly insulted Imams before on social media and that "reports by the people" drew its attention to the case.

Khoshhal’s personal Twitter account has since been deleted and the phrase changed on Ebtekar’s website.

Ebtekar’s editor in chief, Reza Dehaki, apologized to all those offended and told a Mizan journalist that they have changed the report and cut ties with the author, the agency reported.

Another journalist, Mir Mohammad-Hossein Mir-Esmaili, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August over "insulting" Imam Reza, one of the 12 revered figures of Shiite Islam.

He was similarly arrested while trying to leave the country in April 2017.

On October 21, thousands of demonstrators, some hurling stones, marched on a village in Kulgam where Indian government forces were battling an unknown number of suspected Kashmiri fighters.

Three suspects were rubbed out in the exchange but a subsequent kaboom at the scene killed five demonstrators. A sixth civilian injured in the kaboom later died at a hospital in Srinagar.

Indian forces also fired shotgun pellets and tear gas at the protesters, leaving at least 30 injured.

AII Executive Director Aakar Patel pointed out: "What transpired in the aftermath of the Kulgam encounter is unfortunate and could have been avoided had the authorities taken extra caution to ensure that civilians would have access to the area only after proper sanitisation of the encounter site was done."

"In case of any direct or indirect violence between security forces and gangs, extra caution should be exercised to ensure that civilians in the area do not become collateral damage. Safety of the civilian population should be of paramount importance."

Father of two jailed in France for feeding them on Coca-Cola
[DAWN] The father of two boys, aged three and four, has been tossed in the calaboose

in La Belle France for feeding them nearly exclusively on Coca-Cola, the children's lawyer said.

The father, who can "neither read, nor write, nor count, doesn't realise the seriousness of the situation and spent all his welfare money on alcohol," Carole Papon, a representative of the association French Victims 87, said on Wednesday.

Within a few days of welfare payments being made "the family had nothing to eat. They only had Coca-Cola to drink," she said.

The father, who was described as violent towards his wife and children, was tossed in the calaboose

for three months on Wednesday in Limoges, central La Belle France.

The eldest boy had to have seven sugar-rotten teeth removed, and the second does not speak. Both have been taken into care where they have been introduced to meat and vegetables.

"There was nothing in their flat," Bruno Robinet, the deputy public prosecutor, told AFP.

"There was no fridge, the children slept on a mattress without covers and there were no toys... Their father fed them on cakes and coke," he added.

Bail plea of suspect in minor girl’s rape, murder case rejected
[DAWN] KARACHI: An antiterrorism court has rejected the bail application of a detained suspect in a case pertaining to alleged abduction, rape and murder of a six-year-old girl.

Police claimed to have booked three suspects along with their two absconding accomplices for allegedly abducting the minor girl on April 12 and murdering her after subjecting her to sexual assault within the remit of the Orangi Town cop shoppe.

The victim’s body was found in a deserted area on April 12.

The incident sparked a violent protest by her family and residents of the area.

One of the three detained suspects had moved an application seeking post-arrest bail on the basis of an affidavit said to have been signed by the slain child’s parents.

The ATC-I judge pronounced his verdict, which was earlier reserved after hearing arguments from the defence and the prosecution.

In his order, the judge observed that the case record showed that the accused was connected with the serious crime of kidnapping of a minor girl, who was subsequently murdered after being raped.

Khashoggi Supporters Hold Vigil outside Saudi Consulate
[An Nahar] Supporters, friends and relatives of journalist Jamal Khashoggi on Thursday held a candlelight vigil outside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to demand justice for his "barbaric" murder.

They chose the consulate, where the 59-year-old Washington Post contributor was killed on October 2, to hold the first gathering of the newly-formed Jamal Khashoggi Friends Association.

"From this place where Jamal lost his life, we clearly state that we will not accept compromises in the case of his murder," said a statement from the group, read by Ayman Nour, the Egyptian chief of opposition broadcaster El-Sharq.

"We will follow all legitimate means to achieve full justice for Jamal, so as not to wake up to another murdered journalist," the statement said.

The murder has sparked an international crisis for Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, whose official narrative changed again on Thursday, when a Saudi public prosecutor admitted the murder appeared to have been premeditated.

The view from Egypt: New Palestinian Intifada in the making
It must be remembered that Al Ahram is a sock puppet of the Egyptian government, which clearly is not willing to be seen being friends with the uppity Zionist entity, though they are willing to take everything Israel is willing to share.
[AlAhram] Egypt quickly intervened late last week to prevent a military escalation in Gazoo after several rockets were fired by an unknown group towards nearby Israeli settlements.

As usual, Israel responded with a wide-scale bombing campaign that hit 25 alleged "Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, targets", killing one Paleostinian and injuring several others.

The deputy director of Egyptian Intelligence was dispatched to Gazoo to meet with Hamas leaders who wisely distanced themselves from that act, and confirmed their commitment to the understandings mediated by Egypt to maintain a shaky truce in Gazoo.

Baloch fighters kill two in attack on Pakistani security convoy
[Al Jazeera] Ethnic Baloch separatists have killed at least two Pak paramilitary soldiers in a coordinated attack on a senior officer's convoy in the southwestern province of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
The attack occurred in Washk district, about 345km south of the quiet provincial capital, Quetta, on Thursday, security officials said.

"Balochistan Liberation Army [BLA] fighters conducted this attack, and it was a joint operation with the Baloch Liberation Front [BLF]," BLA spokesperson Jihand Baloch told Al Jazeera via satellite phone from an undisclosed location.

For more than a decade, armed Baloch separatist groups have been fighting for independence against Pak security forces, whom they consider to be an occupying force in Pakistain's largest and least-populated province.

The BLA and BLF are two of the more active groups in the region, conducting frequent attacks against Pak forces, as well as on projects being completed under the China Pakistain Economic Corridor (CPEC), a $56bn project that links southwestern China to the Arabian Sea through Pakistain.

Fifth Column
How close did the Deep State get to using nuclear weapons in 1968 before LBJ found out about it and stopped it?
[WarOnTheRocks] In an eerie twist on life imitating art, recent news coverage suggests just such a reality could have come to pass. The publication of Michael Beschloss’ new book, Presidents of War, shined light on declassified documents describing the efforts that President Lyndon Johnson’s senior military officers undertook without presidential authorization in early 1968 to prepare for the use of tactical nuclear weapons in Vietnam.

How close did the United States actually get to deploying nuclear weapons in Vietnam in 1968? Who initiated this plan, codenamed "Fracture Jaw," and when did the president become aware of it? What can today’s leaders learn from this incident, and what implications does this episode have for command and control of nuclear weapons during wartime and the so-called "nuclear taboo" that purportedly dissuades their use?

The story these documents tell is not altogether new. By the mid-2000s, Nina Tannenwald and documents declassified by the State Department had already revealed that Johnson shut down the military’s 1968 contingency planning for the employment of tactical nuclear weapons in the Vietnam war. The most recently declassified documents, however, convey just how far this planning had advanced at Pacific Command before press disclosures in Washington brought the full scope and scale of Fracture Jaw to the attention of a furious president and a beleaguered White House.

In one sense, the story is reassuring. Johnson halted the deployment of these weapons at a moment in Vietnam when he would have faced considerable pressure from his theater commanders to use them. But it is also an alarming tale because tactical nuclear weapons planning got underway absent advance knowledge of ‐ let alone authorization from ‐ the commander-in-chief. As the 2018 Nuclear Posture Review calls for an expansion of America’s low-yield tactical nuclear options, policymakers and operational planners would benefit from understanding the importance of coordinating their contingency planning across civilian and military authorities to preserve the integrity of the command and control infrastructure and avoid the missteps of Fracture Jaw.
Continues.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Security officials: Barkan terrorist part of terror cell
[IsraelTimes] Despite initial assumption by the defense establishment that Ashraf Na'alwa was a 'lone wolf' terrorist, the fact he is still on the lam and the lack of intelligence regarding his whereabouts indicate a terror cell was behind the deadly attack.

Ashraf Na'alwa, who murdered Ziv Hagbi and Kim Levengrond Yehezkel in the Barkan industrial area earlier this month, was part of a terror cell, which the defense establishment failed to detect beforehand, and not a "lone wolf" as it was assumed in the beginning, security officials have said.

The terrorist was granted a work permit after being vetted by Israeli security officials, who did not find any ties to terrorism in his past.

But now it appears Na'alwa was a part of a terror cell, which is not affiliated with any of the terror organizations.

The fact Na'alwa was not caught immediately after the attack, and that security forces have so far been unable to gather intelligence about his whereabouts, indicate the terrorist is receiving help from accomplices, who aided his escape from the scene and are helping him evade capture.

So far, security forces have nabbed
You have the right to remain silent...
several members of the assailant's family, friends and acquaintances. Last week, Paleostinian media outlets reported that the IDF arrested a suspect defined as an "accomplice" near Tulkarm. But Israel is yet to confirm the report.

The Shin Bet, meanwhile, have rejected the definition of a "terror cell" being behind the Barkan terror attack, prefering instead to use the term "collaborators."

Since the Barkan terror attack, there has been a certain increase in the number of attempts by "lone wolf" attackers to carry out copycat attacks.

IDF carries out airstrikes on ‘Hamas targets’ in Gaza
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) released footage on Thursday showing what they say was an Arclight airstrike on alleged Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", targets in the Gazoo Strip.

The IDF claim a rocket was fired from the Gazoo Strip towards southern Israel and that they responded with an Iron Dome missile to intercept it but it failed.

As a response, the IDF targeted what they say were Hamas positions in Gazoo.

Taliban kill woman, lover over adultery: Afghan official
[DAWN] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
killed an Afghan woman accused of adultery and her lover in western Ghor province after it was discovered that she had fled her husband to be with another man, an Afghan official said.

Provincial front man Abdul Hai Khatebi said the couple tried to flee on a cycle of violence but got stopped and captured by the Taliban at a checkpoint manned by the forces of Evil in their district.

Khatebi said it all happened on Wednesday, the Taliban detained the two, carried out a swift self-styled trial and handed down a death sentence for both.

The Taliban, who hold sway in nearly half of Afghanistan, are seeking to impose their harsh interpretation of Islam in areas they control. The forces of Evil consider adultery an offense punishable by death.

#5  One man's opinion which I do not share.

While there are dozens of books on Lee, Michael Korda's 'Clouds of Glory, The Life and Legend of Robert E. Lee' is a fantastic biography.

One Korda reviewer wrote: ”His place in history is unique: a Caesar without his ambition; a Frederick without his tyranny; a Napoleon without his selfishness; and a Washington without his reward.”

Another one of those fascinating things about General Robert E. Lee is that the only insignia of rank he ever wore was the three stars of a Colonel. This was the final rank he achieved before resigning as an officer in the American Army.

Nothing To See Here, Folks! 500 Ballots Go Missing In Bent County, Colorado
[Denver.CBSLocal] A rural Colorado county will send new ballots to some of its voters after the initial round failed to reach them.

The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office said Wednesday that Bent County is re-issuing one fifth of the county’s 2,500 ballots. The office says the original ballots were never delivered and the U.S. Postal Service hasn’t been able to locate them.

The 500 new ballots are expected to arrive Friday. They will be processed by hand locally rather than being sent to a Denver area postal facility first.

It’s the second county in the state to report significant problems delivering mail ballots in this year’s election.

More than 60,000 ballots were sent to voters in Adams County this week after they were found on a delivery truck.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Day 3: MAGAbomber sent all 10 pipe bombs via a major mailing facility in Opa-locka, Florida - the largest distribution center in Miami-Dade County
Although the evidence is beginning to suggest that this was intended as a political hoax, until it is proved we’ll keep this story on Page 3: Non-War on Terror. Yesterday’s report is here, and links to the two reports we had the day before. Here’s hoping they quickly catch the rat bastard that dunnit, and whatever little friends of his who helped in any way.
[DailyMail]
  • Authorities investigating 10 pipe bombs sent to Trump's critics this week are now focusing on leads in Florida

  • It's been revealed the bombs were sent through a major USPS mail facility in Opa-locka, Florida

  • The FBI is trying to determine where parts for the pipe bombs were purchased in a bid to track down possible suspects

  • However experts say the bombs may never have been intended to explode

  • The lack of a triggering mechanism suggests they were designed to scare

  • Investigation widened on Thursday after three new packages addressed to Robert De Niro and Joe Biden were seized in New York and Delaware

  • Those devices are similar to others targeting prominent Democrats and some of Trump's biggest foes, including the Obamas, Clintons and CNN

  • Authorities were scrambling to find those responsible as they warned that more packages could be out there

  • Former President Jimmy Carter has been told by law enforcement to remain on alert because he could be a target

  • Devices have been seized in New York, Washington D.C., Florida and California

TIMELINE: Packages target prominent Democrats and Trump's foes
Monday: George Soros
Pipe bomb is found at George Soros' home in Katonah, New York on Monday.
It was located in a mailbox outside the gates of the billionaire's compound.

Tuesday : Hillary Clinton
Suspicious package is discovered at Hillary and Bill Clinton's home in Chappaqua, New York, Tuesday night.
The device addressed to Hillary was found during a routine mail screening. Bill was at the home but Hillary was campaigning for Democrats in Florida.

Bomb squad is called to Florida office of Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Wednesday after package is found.
Packages that were intercepted all had Schultz's office listed as a return address.
Package at her office was sent to former Attorney General Eric Holder but was mailed to the wrong address, so was returned to her instead.

Wednesday: Maxine Waters
Suspicious package addressed to California congresswoman Maxine Waters was intercepted Wednesday afternoon by Capitol Police.
Another package was sent to Waters in California.

Thursday : Joe Biden
Authorities locate two suspicious packages addressed to the former VP at mail facilities in Delaware on Thursday.

#5  October Surprise(s)

The Kavanaugh nomination was put on hold September 17 till Blasey Ford could testify.
Either Blasey Ford or her lawyers stalled for time
September 27 Blasey Ford finally testified.
Then the appeaser Jeff Flake collaborated with the Democrats to delay the vote till after an FBI investigation of the Blasey Ford allegations.
So the final floor vote was delayed until October 6.

So the Blasey Ford September surprise bled into October as the first October surprise.
However, none of the Democrats would take up Lindsey Graham's challenge to declare their impeachment intentions toward Kavanaugh.
So the first October surprise quickly faded from the media spotlight and history.

So wouldn't the October 22 MAGA bomber surprise actually be the second October surprise.

Then there was the migrant caravan threat making its way through Mexico.

And now the news media and John Brennan are trying to conflate two different October events;
the October 2 gruesome murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the MAGA bombing plot of this week to attacks by POTUS on the news media.

So what will the third and the forth October surprise be?

My prayer is for a November 6 surprise;
the liberal strategist tactics fail and the Democrats lose big time on November 6
so America can continue to become better and not get worse after years of decline under the Democrat agenda.

Balloons carrying suspected incendiary device land in Jerusalem
[IsraelTimes] Police sappers defuse suspicious package in Ramat Eshkol neighborhood; no injuries

Balloons carrying a suspected incendiary device were found in the Ramat Eshkol northern neighborhood of Jerusalem on Thursday, the Israel Police said.

Police bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene and neutralized the suspicious package the balloons were carrying, police said in a statement.

The bright pink balloons attached to the suspicious package were decorated with Arabic writing that said "My heart."

There were no reports of injuries or damage.

Police did not say where the balloons were launched from.

The tactic of sending airborne incendiary devices into Israeli territory has been used almost daily by Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip since the start of weekly border protests there in March.

On Thursday firefighters worked to extinguish three blazes near southern Israeli towns caused by incendiary balloons launched from Gazoo, a front man for the Israeli Fire and Rescue Services said.

Gazoo protesters have launched hundreds of such incendiary kites and balloons into Israel, sparking fires that have destroyed forests, burned crops, and killed livestock. Over 7,000 acres of land have been burned, causing millions of shekels in damages, according to Israeli officials. Some balloons have carried improvised bombs.

There have been a number of incidents in which West Bank Paleostinians appeared to have copied the tactic, sending devices into Israeli communities and settlements.

On three occasions over the past month suspicious balloons have been discovered in Jerusalem, as well as in the courtyard of a home in the West Bank settlement of Givat Ze’ev, just north of Jerusalem, in the central city of Lod, and in the Tel Aviv suburb of Bat Yam.

Miyeh Miyeh Clashes Subside after Two Wounded
[An Nahar] Heavy festivities erupted Thursday at the Miyeh Miyeh Paleostinian refugee camp near Sidon between the mainstream Fatah Movement and the Hizbullah

-backed Islamist faction Ansarullah.

The sounds of shelling and gunfire were being heard across the city of Sidon, the National News Agency said.

The agency later reported that the fighting had subsided following Lebanese and Paleostinian political contacts and meetings.

It also reported that two people had been injured -- a Fatah member and a civilian.

NNA said stray bullets from the festivities reached areas that neighbor the camp such as the town of Hlaliyeh east of Sidon, where one of the gunshots penetrated the glass facade of one of the houses without causing casualties.

The fighting also sparked panic among the region's residents, who have urged authorities to put an end to the recurrent festivities, the agency added.

MP Bahia Hariri of al-Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
Movement meanwhile had held a series of phone calls aimed at reaching "an instant ceasefire," NNA said.

Hariri's contacts involved Fatah's most bigwig in Leb Fathi Abu al-Ardat, Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",' top official in Leb Ahmed Abdul Hadi, the chief of Lebanese military intelligence in the South Brig. Gen. Fawzi Hamadi, and the head of military intelligence in Sidon Brig. Gen. Mamdouh Saab.

The festivities between the two movements had first erupted on October 16, leaving several people dead.

Lebanese Army units had on Wednesday redeployed around the camp in order to "bring the security situation under control," the army said in a statement.

An army force had deployed Tuesday at the camp's entrance before withdrawing abruptly for "logistic reasons," the National News Agency said.

Trump imposes new Hezbollah sanctions, promises more against Iran
[IsraelTimes] President also claims Tehran no longer looking for access to Mediterranean at White House event marking anniversary of Beirut Marine barracks bombing

President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
signed legislation Thursday imposing new sanctions against Hezbollah, the Iran-backed terrorist group behind the 1983 Beirut barracks bombings.

Speaking at a White House event marking the 35th anniversary of the attack that killed 241 Marines, Trump said, "No terrorist group other than al-Qaeda has more American blood on its hands."

The bill expands the list of those who can be sanctioned for doing business with Hezbollah.

Trump described the sanctions as "starving" Hezbollah.

"We will target, disrupt, and dismantle their operational and financing networks ‐ of which they had plenty; they don’t have plenty now," he said without elaborating.

Trump also said that Iran had retreated from efforts to gain access to the Mediterranean Sea. Israeli officials have warned repeatedly in recent years of an Iranian attempt to create a conduit to the sea through Iraq, Syria and Leb.

"They’re not looking so much for the Mediterranean. When I took office, they were looking for the Mediterranean. They were going to take over everything. Now they want to survive," he said.

He said sanctions against Iran set to kick in early next month as part of his pullout of the 2015 nuclear deal would be "just as good" as those that had been removed under predecessor Barack Obama
I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money...
, and promised more in the future.

"We will not allow the world’s leading sponsor of terror to develop the world’s deadliest weapons. Will not happen," he said.

5 'Islami Jamiat Taleba students' suspended by Punjab University for thrashing man on campus
[DAWN] Five Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

University (PU) students allegedly associated with the Islami Jamaat Taleba (IJT) were suspended on Thursday for beating up a man who was sitting with his wife on campus.

The PU administration also suspended a security guard ─ who was present at the time ─ for his inaction.

Videos of the incident circulating on social media show a large crowd of onlookers gathered outside the PU History Department around the man who is being beaten up by some students, while a woman yells at them to stop.

"What has he done? He is my husband," she can be heard saying in an attempt to dissuade the perpetrators from beating the man up.

The man, identified as a Awais Rind, had gone to the History Department to pick up his wife when he was beaten by the IJT students, PU Spokesperson Khurram Shahzad said.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed took notice of the incident and ordered PU Registrar Khalid Khan to take strict action against the students involved, Shahzad said.

"No one has permission to take the law into their own hands," the spokesperson said. He added that the incident was "unbearable" and assured that the administration will "maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the campus".

He said that five IJT students involved in Rind's thrashing have been suspended, along with a security guard who stood and watched instead of preventing them from beating the man.

A meeting of university administration officials took place today, after which it is expected that a formal notification will be issued announcing the suspension of the five students and the security guard.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar also took notice of the incident and sought a report from the administration, PU spokesperson said.

Saudi says Turkish probe shows Khashoggi murder 'premeditated'

, as it sought to draw a line under the crisis.

It was the latest twist in the shifting official narrative of the October 2 killing which US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has derided as "one of the worst cover-ups" in history.

The Saudi public prosecutor said he was making the latest assessment on the basis of evidence supplied by Turkey which has been the source of the spate of grisly revelations about the government critic's death that triggered an international outcry.

After first insisting Khashoggi left the consulate unharmed, Saudi authorities said he was killed in an argument that degenerated into a brawl, then admitted he was murdered before finally accepting what Turkey had said virtually from the start ‐ that he was killed in a premeditated hit.

As the Saudi public prosecutor made the new admission on Thursday, Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Riyadh still needed to provide answers to remaining questions, such as who ordered the hit and what happened to Khashoggi's body.

"Information from the Ottoman Turkish authorities indicates that the act of the suspects in the Khashoggi case was premeditated," the office of public prosecutor Sheikh Saud al-Mojeb said in a statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency.

Don Surber: Megyn her exit
As we toast Megyn Kelly on her departure from NBC and sip our Trump Schadenfreude (which tastes like Diet Coke with a slightly stronger New York accent) let us also enjoy watching NBC pay $69 million or so in exit fees to the 21st century's version of Pink Lady and Jeff.

Kelly was a lawyer who joined Fox News as a reporter and worked her way to an anchor post. They promoted her to prime-time. She was doing fine until the first Republican presidential debate in August 2015.

She picked a fight with Donald John Trump. He ate her up and spit her out like a wad of gum. The transcript shows she broke a rule. A lawyer never asks a question in court that she does not know the answer to.

'Fiercest' Shellfire Yet around Syria Truce Zone
[An Nahar] Rebels and jihadists shot it out with government forces in northern Syria overnight, their "fiercest" exchanges since a buffer zone deal was announced for the area last month, a monitor said Thursday.

A 15- to 20-kilometre (nine to 12-mile) wide "de-militarised zone" was announced by rebel backer The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
and government ally Moscow on September 17 to separate government troops from rebel fighters in their last major bastion in Idlib province and adjacent areas.

Shelling has continued intermittently, however, and escalated dramatically late Wednesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"It was the fiercest bombing yet since September 17," said Rami Abdel Rahman, who heads the Britannia-based monitoring group.

"Syrian government rocket and artillery fire killed one girl in Kafr Hamra," an Aleppo province town inside the declared buffer zone.

Rebel shelling from inside the zone killed three civilians in government-held territory earlier this week.

Late on Wednesday, rocket fire by both jihadists and Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels hit second city Aleppo, wounding 10 people, Abdel Rahman said.

State news agency SANA gave the same casualty toll and said the army responded against the sources of the fire north and northwest of the city.

The National Liberation Front, the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebel alliance which is the main gang in that area, said it was responding to government violations of the truce deal with "light and medium weapons."

Under the deal agreed by Russia and Turkey, the rebels were supposed to have removed all heavy weapons from the buffer zone by October 10.

"Radical" fighters -- taken to mean Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
(HTS), the jihadist alliance which is the dominant faction in Idlib, and other hardliners -- were supposed to leave the zone by October 15.

But 10 days on there is still no sign of any pullout or of the planned monitoring patrols by the deal's co-sponsors, the Observatory said.

Syrian pro-government newspaper al-Watan said the jihadists' failure to withdraw "provides the justification for the Syrian army and Russian air force to start a military operation to oust (HTS) from the area."

Indian media reports said the raids at the premises of the rights watchdog in Bengaluru in southern Karnataka state began at 1:30pm (8:30 GMT) on Thursday afternoon and were ongoing.

A statement released by ED said its searches were conducted for alleged violation of foreign direct investment guidelines by Amnesty India. The agency accused the rights group of bypassing rules regarding foreign donations by "floating a commercial entity".

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
UN Rapporteur: A new wave of executions, suppressions in Iran
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
situation in Iran, Javid Rehman, presented his report in his first mission, in front a UN panel in New York on Wednesday, with the United Kingdom, United States and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
criticizing the increase in executions and suppressions inside the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

Rehman, a British-Pak legal scholar, reported that Iran has witnessed lately a wave of protests against the economic and living conditions which the authorities tried to suppress.

Rehman called on the Iranian government to allow him to visit the country in order to assess the human rights situation through interviews with Iranian citizens and to provide information on reports provided by international human rights organizations on violations, particularly executions, torture, suppression of freedom of assembly, opinion and expression, as well as depriving religious and ethnic minorities of their fundamental rights.

Concern
Following the UN meeting, Javed held a presser at the UN building where he expressed concern about the fate of the environmental activists held for months in Iran.

The UN Special Rapporteur also considered the arrest of women against the compulsory hijab as a violation of human rights and international laws, while expressing concern about the fate of the detainees of protests in recent months in various cities in Iran.

Rahman stressed that the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
monitors the protests in Iran, especially the suppression and abuse of detainees, which led to the death of some people in prisons.

The UN Rapporteur pointed to a wave of suppression and threats against journalists, as well as the imprisonment of dual citizens and the execution of political prisoners, especially members of minorities.

He called on the Iranian government to interact with him to bring about positive changes in the human rights situation. He revealed that he held two meetings with representatives of Iran in Geneva and New York, wrote letters and held talks to decide on his request to visit the country.

Qatari-bought fuel boosts Gazans’ daily electricity
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinians receive an extra two hours of power after Israel lets fuel through

Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip received extra hours of electricity on Thursday after several trucks of Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
i-bought fuel arrived at the coastal enclave’s sole power plant, Muhammed Thabet, a front man for the Gazoo Electricity Distribution Company, said.

The Qatari-purchased fuel began flowing into Gazoo’s power plant on October 9, but Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman halted its entry four days later following many weeks of protests, including violence against Israeli security forces, along the border between Israel and the Strip.

Israel, however, decided to lift the embargo on the entry of the fuel on Tuesday following a week of relative calm in the border region.

"Yesterday, Gazoo received four hours of electricity followed by 16 hours of no electricity. Today, it received 6 hours of electricity followed by 12 hours of no electricity," Thabet said in a phone call. "This increase in electricity supply is much needed, but we are still facing a major shortage."

Demand for electricity in Gazoo is estimated at 500 and 600 megawatts per day in the winter and summer, respectively.

On Thursday, the Gazoo Electricity Distribution Company only had planned to distribute 172 megawatts, according to Thabet.

"We are currently getting 120 megawatts from the lines coming from Israel and 52 from the power station," he said. "If we receive more fuel for the power plant, we would be able to increase the megawatts."

The Paleostinian Authority pays for the electricity coming from Israel.

The power plant in Gazoo has four turbines and an estimated total capacity to generate 110 megawatts daily, but on Thursday only two turbines were in operation.

A substantial number of Paleostinians in Gazoo, especially those with higher incomes, rely on backup generators for electricity during power outages.

Late last month, Qatar decided to donate a total of $60 million to purchase fuel from an Israeli company for Gazoo, a source in the coastal enclave said in a phone call.

United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
officials, including Special Coordinator for the Middle East grinding of the peace processor Nikolay Mladenov, have been in charge of overseeing the deliveries of the fuel, the Gazoo-based source said.

"Today the second turbine of the Gazoo power plant starts producing 52 MW, alleviating the suffering of two million Paleostinians in Gazoo," Mladenov tweeted Thursday.

The PA has strongly opposed the deliveries of fuel, arguing that they amount to financial aid for Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,.

"When Qatar pays for the fuel, Hamas in Gazoo will collect the bills and put it in its pocket, and this is an indirect financial aid to Hamas," a PA official said on October 7, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
The PA has recently cut some of its budgets to Gazoo in an attempt to pressure Hamas to give up control of the territory.

The terror group has controlled Gazoo since it ousted the Fatah-dominated PA in 2007 from the coastal enclave, and has resisted initiatives that would see it cede full control to the PA.

Earlier Thursday, a rocket was launched from Gazoo into southern Israel, causing neither casualties nor damage.

Asked if Liberman intends to stop the entry of fuel into Gazoo in response to that attack, the defense minister’s office declined to comment.

France to Take in 100 Yazidi Women Stranded in Iraqi Kurdistan
[An Nahar] French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to bring to La Belle France 100 Yazidi women who were victims of assault by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters in northern Iraq beginning in 2014, his office said Thursday.

Macron's offer came after a meeting in Gay Paree with Nadia Murad, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this month for her campaign to end sexual violence as a weapon of war.

Murad was one of thousands of Yazidi women captured by IS jihadists before they were driven out of Sinjar and other parts of Iraq, starting with campaigns by Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led coalition forces.

Macron said that in response to Murad's request, 20 of the refugees being held without access to care in Iraqi Kurdistan would come to La Belle France by the end of this year, and the remainder in 2019.

He said he would also back Murad's launch of a reconstruction fund for Sinjar to build hospitals and schools, hopefully encouraging Yazidis who had fled to return to their bastion.

Murad was in Gay Paree to present a report from the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) on the brutalities inflicted on Yazidi women during the IS siege, in particular those by imported muscle who had joined the IS jihadists.

More than 6,800 Yazidis were kidnapped, of which 4,300 either escaped or were bought as slaves, while 2,500 remain missing, the report said.

The federation called on governments to pursue its citizens who fought alongside IS for participating in genocide and crimes against humanity.

Arabia
UN: Khashoggi was victim of 'extrajudicial execution'
[Al Jazeera] The United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions said Khashoggi's killing bears the hallmark of an extrajudicial execution.

"What we know is sufficient to suggest very strongly that Mr Khashoggi was the victim of an extrajudicial execution and that the government of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is implicated in one way or another," Agnes Callamard told Al Jazeera.

"First, we know that killing was in the consulate, which is representative of the state of Saudi Arabia. Second, the individuals present at the time of the disappearance and the alleged killing were representatives of the state. Subsequently, over the last few days at least, Saudi authorities have recognised individuals at the highest levels of the structures of authority were involved in the disappearance and the killing.

"There were two weeks during which the government of Saudi Arabia denied knowing anything about what had happened, therefore failing in their duty to provide and undertake a thorough investigation.

"All of those elements indicate that the disappearance and now killing of Mr Jamal Khashoggi bear the hallmark of an extrajudicial execution."

Callamard called for an international investigation into Khashoggi's murder earlier in the day at a UN session in New York City.

Faisal Fahad, the Saudi representative on the UN committee, said Callamard had overstepped her remit with her comments.

"My delegation would like to denounce the statement by the special rapporteur. We call on her not to exceed her mandate on extrajudicial executions. Kindly do not give us any personal opinions in this official meeting," said Fahad.

Al Jazeera's Diplomatic Editor James Bays, reporting from the United Nations, said it's unclear if an international probe will come to fruition.

"The UN secretary general [Antonio Guterres] says he will only form a panel to investigate if he gets a referral from one of the main bodies of the UN - the Security Council, the General Assembly, or the Human Rights Council, or from one of the countries concerned," he said.

Venezuelan Exiles Turn to Prostitution to Feed Families
[An Nahar] Back in Venezuela, they were teachers, coppers and newspaper carriers, but were forced to flee their homeland in search of work and money to survive.

But the women, without identity papers, ended up working as hookers in sordid bars in Colombia, saving all they can to provide for their families back home, still in the throes of economic crisis.

Mother-of-three Patricia, 30, was beaten, raped and sodomized by a drunken client -- but she keeps on working in a brothel in Calamar, in the center of the country.

"There are customers who treat you badly and that is horrible," she says. ""Every day, I pray to God that they are good (to us)."

Alegria is a teacher of history and geography but in a Venezuela gripped by chronic hyperinflation, she was earning just 312,000 bolivars a month: less than a dollar.

Her salary was not enough "even for a packet of pasta," the 26-year-old mother of a four-year-old boy told AFP.

In February, she crossed the border into Colombia.

She initially worked for three months as a waitress in the east, a job which offered room and board, but Alegria was never paid, getting by on tips.

"I sent my tips home to my family," she said. Six people, including her son, were relying on her.

Eventually, even those were confiscated, so Alegria made her way south to Calamar, which is located in an area scarred by decades of armed conflict.

The region is a hub for drug-trafficking, and a bastion of dissident former FARC guerrillas.

With nine other women, Alegria -- a pseudonym she gave AFP for this story that means 'happiness' -- hookers herself every night in a bar in the town of 3,000 people.

Each client pays between 37,000-50,000 pesos ($11-16), of which 7,000 is kept by the establishment's manager. On a "good night," Alegria can earn the equivalent of between $30 and $100.

- 'BECAUSE OF THE CRISIS' -
"We never intended on prostituting ourselves. We're doing it because of the crisis," says Joli, her voice cracking.

This 35-year-old lost her job as a newspaper carrier in 2016 because "there was no more paper to print them."

After four years of recession and years of financial mismanagement, Venezuela's crisis has seen poverty soar as basic necessities such as food and medicine became scarce.

Inflation is set to hit a staggering 1.4 million percent this year, according to the International Monetary Fund, which says 2019 will see that figure reach an astronomical 10 million percent.

Joli left her three children with her mother before trekking from town to town and job to job looking to make ends meet.

When she crossed the border into Colombia without a passport, she had nothing but the clothes she was wearing.

Some 1.9 million Venezuelans have fled the crisis-ridden country since 2015, according to the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...

- OUT OF OPTIONS -

Joli's story is a painful one.

She is divorced from the father of her children, but he died of renal failure, denying her the help she needed to raise them.

Then, she said, the man she was due to marry "died of a heart attack due to a lack of medication."

"My back was against the wall," Joli said.

She said she couldn't even find work as a cleaner because of her Venezuelan accent so ended up in Calamar, so she turned to sex work. In June, her 19-year-old niece, Milagro, joined her at the brothel.

"At first I felt terrible," said the teenager.

But she stuck to it, trying to help her sick mother, her brothers and a two-year-old child.

Her mother has since died.

Beside the financial hardships and obvious unpleasantness of the work, many women struggle with hiding the truth from their families.

"They don't know what I do, even my mother," admits Alegria. "It would be too difficult for her after sacrificing five years of her life to pay for my studies."

She dreams of teaching in Colombia but without a passport, it's impossible.

She tells her loved ones she works in a bakery but, sick of lying, she finally confessed the truth of an emergency team of medics from Doctors of the World (MDM) in Calamar.

Seattle Police Department Imploding: Difficulties in Hiring and a Mass Exodus as Officers Retire Early or Leave for Other Agencies
[OpsLens] I received information two days ago, which I trusted but have been waiting for corroboration. This information also validates my thesis about de-policing in America (at least, in Seattle) in all its manifestations, including: officers refraining from proactive patrol tasks; superiors ordering officers not to enforce laws; and politically motivated leaders otherwise thwarting the police officers’ public safety mission.

This morning on KVI Radio, host Kirby Wilbur provided that corroboration. He announced the same information I’d gotten. He reported that the Seattle Police Department (SPD) is "imploding" as it relates to retaining (not to mention recruiting) police officers. Officers are not only choosing to retire sooner than they’d planned (like I did) but officers are also fleeing the city for more welcoming employment conditions. It’s tough enough with so many people in our communities standing against cops these days. But it’s devastating when an officers’ own city leaders are among the most vocal anti-cop opponents.

However, if I am forced to shoot one of them, I am likely to be subjected to lawsuits, harrassment, and death threats. I may not come home to my family if I don't react quickly enough. Yet I will be judged by people who weren't there, and many of whom have an agenda.

The mayor won't help - she has to please the voters. The press won't help - they need to sell their stories.

"Our relevant services have names and locations of those Syrian terrorists, including the leadership of the White Helmets, who are actually involved in chemical weapon incidents. We can help," the diplomat said.

No further details were released from the report.

The Russian and Syrian governments have accused the White Helmets of working with foreign nations to carry out new provocations with chemical weapons.

Gravity claims two more lives at Taft Point in Yosemite National Park
[USA Today] Two visitors have died in Yosemite National Park after falling from an overlook, the National Parks Service said in a statement Thursday.

Park rangers were trying to recover the bodies of the man and woman who fell from Taft Point, a popular overlook at an elevation of 7,500 feet, as of 2 p.m. ET. The deaths are being investigated, but no other information is available yet, including the identities of the visitors, the statement said. Yosemite is located in California's Sierra Nevada mountains.

This is not the first time this year visitors have faced danger in Yosemite. Tomer Frankfurter, an Israeli teenager, fell to his death from Nevada Fall last month. Two hikers died in June while climbing El Capitan, and another died while climbing Half Dome in May.
