Economy
June Jobs Improve - Again?
Unexpectedly. I thought May was bad. Now May is good.
The labor market continued to gain momentum and defy a mixed economy in June as employers added 288,000 jobs, the Labor Department said Thursday. Economists had estimated that 215,000 jobs were added last month.
Why is it a "mixed economy" if jobs are up and Wall Street is at an all-time high?
The economy has now gained at least 200,000 jobs a month for the past five months -- the first such stretch since September 1999-January 2000. The unemployment rate fell to 6.1% vs. 6.3% in May. That's the lowest it's been since September 2008.
Obamalicious! On the other hand ...
A broader measure of distress in the job market -- which includes part-time employees who prefer full-time jobs, Americans who have given up looking for work, and the unemployed -- dipped to 12.1% from 12.2%. The number of Americans out of work at least six months dropped by 293,000 to 3.1 million. The long-term unemployed still make up 32.8% of all the jobless.

One modest disappointment is that the report did not reveal the pickup in wage gains that economists have been anticipating. Average hourly earnings are up just 2% over the past 12 months.
And something less than ten percent over the last 30-odd years. In constant dollars, sometimes called "real growth".
That likely will prompt the Federal Reserve to stick to a rough blueprint that doesn't have it raising short-term interest rates before the middle of 2015, says Paul Ashworth of Capital Economics.
After the election. Unexpectedly. When debt service will jump dramatically. Just in time to be blamed on the new conservative Congress.
But Ashworth expects minimum wage increases to accelerate the second half of the year, leading the Fed to raise rates next March.

Also, initial jobless claims have fallen to pre-recession levels.
So the recession is nearly over? Again?
The surprisingly resilient job market has contrasted with an economy that contracted 2.9% in the first quarter -- its worst performance in five years -- and weak consumer spending recently.
Aha! So the public still has no confidence in the 'recovery'. Maybe the 15-bazillion dollar debt is making people nervous? Or the Chinese expansion? Syrian meltdown? Iranian bomb? Illegal immigration? Skyrocketing food prices? IRS abuses? Global warming? Fracking earthquakes? We have nothing to fear ... but fear itself.

#2  The Labor Dept numbers are so cooked they're useless. Check with how many are getting social security deductions from their paycheck to get an idea of employment. State/local/union pension deductions are not going the alter significantly. That'll give you a picture of who's working and who's not. From that you'll get the real unemployment figures.

#6  Yup -- SS deductions, productivity, the E6 unemployment rate, the proportion of adults working, median hourly wage -- those are the numbers that help you understand the economy.
Posted by: Steve White || 07/04/2014 18:13 Comments || Top||

#7  Pappy's comment on productivity is very important.

The 1st Q of the calendar year had a declining GDP with increasing employment. That created the worst productivity decline in the history of measurement.

Productivity decline eventually works its way into the economy decreasing profits and govt revenue while putting upward pressure on prices. It takes more than a few months but it happens.

One of the reasons for the increase in employment numbers may be the end to the generous unemployment eligibility period.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Thieves in Mexico steal truck with dangerous radioactive load
(Reuters) - Thieves in central Mexico on Thursday stole a pick-up truck carrying dangerous radioactive material, authorities said.

The load of Iridium-192 was normally used in industrial radiography, Mexico's interior ministry said in a statement. It was housed in a specialized container and would only pose a health risk if the housing was tampered with, it said.

Experts say a dirty bomb is a more likely threat than a nuclear bomb in a terrorist attack.

However, they say a dirty bomb carries more potential to terrorize than cause a large loss of life.

Nuclear expert Mark Hibbs of the Carnegie Endowment think-tank said Iridium-192, a common medical and industrial isotope with many applications, "in theory" could be used as a radiological weapon.

But, "the perpetrators would have to accumulate enough material to disperse it effectively which may be difficult since in many cases small amounts of Ir-192 are used in sources," he told Reuters in an e-mail.

#1  I sense a potentially hilarious teen movie, with serious gross-outs.
Posted by: Shipman || 07/04/2014 11:36 Comments || Top||

#2  The problem is that OSHA has a zero tolerance standard for radiation, ergo, any detectable radiation is a hazard.

Given that, a relatively small amount of iridium taped to a kicker charge of about 100 lbs of C4 set off in a public area would provide enough radiation to set off the detectors and force a massive and extremely expensive cleanup operation and the loss of use for YEARS with anything showing detectable radiation.

PBS did a show a number of years back and said 10 lbs of iridium in bomb set off in the Washington Metro would cost over $1 TRILLION to clean up.

So there you have it. A dirty bomb is an economic weapon designed to deny use and cost zillions to clean up...not really designed to kill or to destroy just deny use. Sorta like a neutron bomb or a low yield nuke set off as an airburst with the fireball not touching the ground.

#6  Lost & found: Mexico finds radioactive load from stolen truck
(Reuters) - Mexican authorities on Friday found a load of dangerous radioactive material that was in a stolen pick-up, a top civil protection official said.

The load of iridium 192 was found abandoned on a street a few miles from where the truck was stolen in the industrial Mexico City suburb of Tlalnepantla, Luis Felipe Puente, the head of the country's civil protection agency, said on Twitter.

Military troops mounted a security perimeter around the small container emblazoned with logos for hazardous materials until it was removed from the site by the country's nuclear safety commission, according to media reports.

#2  What better graphic example of leftist, Global Googleology and denial. Global multiculturalism will not permit the celebration of American heroism or exceptionalism. Western democracies are essentially the only people in history to have stood against and defeated tyranny. This is what the globalist fear most. Their biggest fear is that the sleeping white male wakes up and starts to push back. If this happens they WILL be defeated, but until it does, they will continue to do everything in their power to prevent it from happening by creating a crime of racism, by legislating demographic genocide, by legalising theft via "affirmative action" and other means, by destroying the economies through fiat currency and "forward planning", gun control, by destroying the free market economy while pretending it still exists... The weapons in their arsenal are legion and they control the corridors of power, academia, the press and the issuing of "money".

Ukraine: Forces control most of 2 separatist areas
[BUSINESSWEEK] A top Ukrainian security official says government troops have cleared more than a dozen towns of armed pro-Russia separatists and now control two-thirds of the eastern regions at the center of the insurgency.

National security council secretary Andriy Parubiy said Friday that Ukrainian forces are still attacking rebel positions with artillery and planes. He said 17 villages had been secured by government forces since a unilateral cease fire expired Monday.

He said Ukrainian forces now control 23 of 36 local regions within Donetsk and Luhansk provinces, two regions along the Russian border that have declared independence from the government in Kiev.

The rebels are still fighting back. Rebels shelled the Donetsk airport overnight and an AP news hound said a radar or communications tower there was still burning in the morning.

Iraq
Iraq army retakes Saddam's birthplace
[REUTERS] The Iraqi army retook Saddam Hussein's home village overnight, a symbolic victory in its struggle to seize back swathes of the country from Sunni Death Eaters.
They're not talking about Tikrit, just a village on the way there.
Backed by helicopter gunships and helped by Shi'ite Moslem volunteers, the army recaptured the village of Awja in an hour-long battle on Thursday night, according to state media, police and local inhabitants.

Awja lies 8 km (5 miles) south of Tikrit, a city that remains in rebel hands since Islamic State, formerly the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
(ISIL), launched a lightning assault across northern Iraq last month.

The offensive to retake Tikrit began on June 28, but the army has still failed to retake the city which fell after the police and army imploded last month in the face of the myrmidon onslaught that also captured djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and other major Sunni areas.

The military front man of embattled Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Awja had been "totally cleansed" and 30 holy warriors killed, according to state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
. A police source told Rooters three turbans had been killed.

The birthplace of Saddam, Awja benefited hugely from the largesse of the Sunni dictator before his ousting by the U.S. invasion of 2003 and locals remained fiercely loyal to the man who would select his relatives from the area for top posts.

Terror Networks
Fears Terrorists Will Target Planes With Computer And Human Bombs
[Telegraph] Terrorists are plotting to use new stealth bombs in laptops and even humans to bring down a US-bound passenger plane, it is feared.

Airport security was increased across the UK, US and other countries amid fears al-Qaeda bomb experts have successfully designed a new explosive that can bypass current checks.

They are believed to be targeting the thousands of Western jihadists fighting in Syria and Iraq as would-be jacket wallahs.

The threat, which originated from US intelligence, had an immediate impact at British airports where passengers were subjected to more stringent and rigorous security checks.

It raises the prospect of a summer of delays and chaos for holidaymakers with long queues at airports.

David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
, the Prime Minister, said the safety of passengers "must come first" while Nick Clegg, the Deputy PM, warned travellers the new checks would be a permanent feature.

Changes to security measures were announced after Washington homeland security secretary Jeh Johnson ordered beefed-up security at foreign airports which have direct flights to the US.

There are concerns that al-Qaeda snuffies in Yemen, known as al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and specifically its master bomb maker Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, have linked up with the Jabhat Al-Nusra jihadists in Syria and passed on bomb making skills.

It is feared a new type of explosive has been developed that will not be picked up under normal checks.

It remains unclear whether that could be deployed in an electronic item such as a laptop, a liquid based explosive soaked on clothing or even surgically implanted in a bomber. All such techniques have been tried by Asiri in the past.

At Heathrow, passengers were being asked to turn on laptops, mobile phones and other electronics as they passed through security. Staff were also swabbing all electronic items, clothing and shoes to check for traces of explosives. Shoes and belts had to be removed and travellers were subject to "vigorous" physical searches, according to one passenger.

The threat centres on the thousands of Western jihadists, including hundreds of Britons, who are fighting in Syria and Iraq. It is feared they will be taught bomb-making skills by Asiri and AQAP and then sent back to target planes.

Asiri was the criminal mastermind behind an underwear bomb that failed to detonate aboard a jet over bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
on Christmas Day 2009 and a more sophisticated version which was intercepted in a CIA sting operation three years later. He also designed the powerful bomb hidden in printer ink cartridges which was intercepted at a UK airport en route to the US in 2010, where it was timed to detonate over the east coast.

Downing Street said there was an "evolving threat" and people should continue to fly but allow "appropriate time" to go through security.

Europe
Gunmen Kill Three Police in East Ukraine's Donetsk
[AnNahar] Gunmen dressed in camouflage rubbed out three Ukrainian coppers and maimed another in the restive eastern city of Donetsk on Thursday, the regional interior ministry said.

The bodies of the officers were found near the railway in the northwest of the industrial city, which is also the administrative center of the separatist region of Donetsk.

The interior ministry said in a statement that the assailants had expeditiously departed at a goodly pace and that a search and an investigation were under way.

Donetsk and the neighboring border region of Lugansk were overrun by pro-Kremlin gunnies in early April and have remained under their effective control since.

Kiev in April launched an offensive aimed at regaining control of the vital provinces, which lie at the heart of Ukraine's coal and steel industry.

Ensuing fighting has claimed more than 460 lives, and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Monday cancelled a 10-day ceasefire aimed at launching negotiations.

European mediators are trying to arrange a another truce between Kiev and Moscow, which denies backing the insurgency, and new talks are due to be held by Saturday.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Syria War Refugees still Flooding into Jordan
[AnNahar] The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
said Thursday it sees no let-up in refugees fleeing war-ravaged Syria for neighboring Jordan, and appealed for funds to help the kingdom cope with the influx.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said it expects the number of Syrian refugees in Jordan to increase by as much as 33 percent to up to 800,000 by the end of this year.

The agency said Jordan was in desperate need of $2.6 billion (1.9 billion euros) to care for the refugees.

"We expect that the number of (Syrian) refugees will continue to increase to some 700,000-800,000 by the end of this year," said Andrew Harper, representative of the UNHCR in Jordan.

"There is a regional response plan and national response plan, in which many aspects are still being finalized... basically $1 billion for the refugees and $1.6 billion for supporting Jordan's hosting community."

The UNHCR had so far received $400 million for the more than 600,000 Syrian refugees that Jordan is already hosting.

"We need generous and real support which is not measured in the short term... but which goes on for many years to come because the situation in Syria and Iraq is catastrophic," said Harper.

The Syrian war has caused the worst refugee crisis since the Rwandan genocide of the mid-1990s, with half the population having fled their homes, including nearly three million people mainly sheltering in neighboring countries.

In December, the U.N. appealed for around $6.5 billion for victims of Syria's war, and $2.3 billion was pledged at a Kuwait donors' conference in January.

But U.N. officials have said their 2014 plan is only 25 percent funded.

"We are underfunded and we are afraid that... the quality of services we are providing for both Jordanian citizens and Syrian refugees... are witnessing deterioration actually," Jordan's Planning Minister Ibrahim Saif said.

"If the international community wants Jordan to continue its current policies to help the refugees, it needs to provide aid to the kingdom," he told a joint news conference with Harper.

IDF Soldiers Jailed For Online Images Urging PM To Let Them 'Annihilate Terrorists'
[Ynet] Soldiers from Netzah Yehuda Battalion were violating military discipline; other soldiers posted photos which read "the battalion demends Dire Revenge™."

Four IDF soldiers from a haredi unit in the Kfir Brigade were sentenced to 10 days in jail Thursday morning, after posting images on Facebook opposing Israeli military restraint and calling for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to let them "annihilate terrorists."

There have been numerous Israeli calls for Dire Revenge™ since the discovery of the bodies of the kidnapped teens Gil-Ad Shaer, Naftali Frenkel and Eyal Yifrach on Monday, some using racist terms to describe Arabs. Among the voices were those of IDF soldiers on active duty, who protested the military's policy of restraint. Several posted a similar image to the four that were incarcerated
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
, which read, "The battalion demands Dire Revenge™."

The four soldiers incarcerated
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
Thursday had posted the images via the Facebook accounts of two of them, which showed them holding a piece of paper that read, "Bibi, let us annihilate terrorists."

The four were found guilty by the battalion's deputy commander of violating military discipline.

The IDF said in response that, "These soldiers were sentenced to several days in prison in light of their actions in violation of military orders. This is a serious incident that is not in line with what is expected of IDF soldiers. Each case that is brought to the commanders' attention will be treated very seriously, as was the case in question."

Attorney Adi Keidar from the rightist legal aid organization Honenu (Pardoned), who represented two of the soldiers, told Ynet: "The system is trying to deal with online protests in the wrong way. The claims that the fighters have raised do not constitute an offense in anyway. These are good fighters and model soldiers. We call on the authorities to end the disciplinary proceedings against them immediately, and return them to operational duty as soon as possible. "

Honenu founder Shmuel Medad said that, "Israel sends its soldiers to the front, but does not understand their situation. The conduct seems to be that of someone who wants to look good for hostile foreign officials, some of whom are anti-Semitic and Israel-haters."

Nearly 200 arrested as Egypt marks 1 year since Morsi's ouster
[CTVNEWS.CA] A series of demonstrations and small bombings marked the anniversary on Thursday of the ouster of Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi
...the former president of Egypt. A proponent of the One Man, One Vote, One Time principle, Morsi won election after the deposal of Hosni Mubarak and jumped to the conclusion it was his turn to be dictator...
, and authorities responded by arresting nearly 200 people as part of their crackdown against Islamists.

One of the bombs went off accidentally inside an apartment outside Cairo, killing two suspected hard boyz who were handling the explosives, the Interior Ministry said. It said the men were in the apartment with two friends who fled after the blast in the Islamist stronghold of Kirdasah.

A security official said one Morsi supporter was killed during festivities between protesters and security forces in Cairo's twin city Giza. Late Thursday, a homemade bomb went off on a train in Egypt's second city, Alexandria, injuring five passengers, another official said. The bomb was placed in a suitcase under a chair-- in a rare incident of directly targeting civilians.

Morsi's supporters had called for mass protests a year after he was toppled by the military and detained, but the number of demonstrators during the day was mostly in the hundreds, sometimes just dozens - evidence of the reluctance by Islamists to take on the security forces after a months-long crackdown that has killed hundreds and tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
at least 22,000.

Thursday's demonstrations took place in Cairo, Alexandria, Assiut, the oasis province of Fayoum southwest of the capital and several other provinces.

Protests continued after nightfall, with skirmishes reported in the city of Suez, the southern city of Aswan and on the outskirts of Cairo.

Despite relatively small numbers, the protesters blocked some roads and rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the military and President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, the former military chief who ousted Morsi following mass protests demanding he step down. El-Sissi was later elected president.

In other violence reported by officials, three separate bombings damaged cop shoppes but caused no casualties in Cairo's densely populated Imbaba district. A small bomb also went off near an air force hospital in Cairo late Wednesday, and bombs targeted a cop shoppe and a railway station in the southern city of Assiut, which has a large Islamist presence, on Thursday.

Two more bombs were defused on the main road leading to the famed Giza Pyramids and a stun grenade went off near a cop shoppe in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, causing panic.

Pentagon Official: Situation in Iraq Is 'So F**ked'
"Joint Chiefs Chairman [Martin] Dempsey is an asshat yes man," he continued. "We have congressional authority to use force for the Iraq War, as it never expired, but people are putting targeting packets through unnecessary bureaucracy to slow events to the point that "-- they hope "-- the situation is overcome by events. Bad call. So fucked. Reads like another chapter in [Robert] Gates's book."

Ex-Shin Bet Head Dicter: Gaza Op Could Last A Year Or More If We Want To Destroy Terror
[Ynet] Former head of the Shin Bet, Avi Dichter said that Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, was trying to provoke Israel into conflict, but said that should Israel chose to fight the group it would take it more than a year to root out terror from the Gazoo Strip.

"Hamas is trying to push into another rough of rocket exchanges, and our mission is to destroy their terror and military infrastructure.

"This is a long operation, which can take a year or more, and we should time it carefully according to military needs and political conditions. We must act from our brain, not our gut."

#1  We need to "loan" Israel a dozen BUFFs, and maybe even the aircrews to fly them. A dozen loads each down the Gaza Strip from north to south would take care of the problem permanently, and it wouldn't take much more than a week or so. Expensive, but it only takes once. Any survivors can be exiled to Egypt or Syria. Let them tell all about their experiences.

Iraq
Fleeing Shiite Turkmen Caught in Iraq Limbo
[AnNahar] Dozens of families who fled a Shiite Turkmen town in northern Iraq overrun by Sunni hard boyz want to move south but are stuck in limbo between the Kurdish authorities and bad boys.

The families said they initially fled Tal Afar, part of a swathe of territory across five provinces which fell to jihadist-led fighters in an offensive that began June 9, for the nearby town of Sinjar.

They then moved to camps on the outskirts of Iraq's autonomous three-province Kurdish region, they told AFP.

But land routes to the Shiite-dominated south, which is markedly more stable than the conflict-hit north and west, are controlled by hard boyz led by the jihadist Islamic State (IS) group.

And Kurdish authorities have blocked those fleeing the conflict in northern Iraq from entering the autonomous region without a resident sponsor.

They have also barred them from the regional capital Arbil entirely, meaning they cannot get to the airport to fly south.

"When we arrived at the camp, they provided us with food, but we do not want to live in a camp," said Murtada Qassem, who fled Tal Afar to Sinjar, and then later to a camp bordering the Kurdish region.

"We want to go to the south, to get jobs and better housing," the father of seven said.

Kadhim Naqi, a 64-year-old with nine children, added that his family wanted to move south because "there is no war or dispute there... It is more stable."

Around 1.2 million people have been displaced within Iraq by unrest this year, including hundreds of thousands who fled their homes following the recent myrmidon offensive.

Many have sought refuge in hotels in Kurdistan as tourists, thereby evading the requirement for a local sponsor, but a large number have been prevented from entering the autonomous area because they have not found a resident to support their entry.

As a result, they have been forced to stay in camps near Al-Khazar checkpoint, the main entry route from Arab areas of northern Iraq to Arbil.

"The situation is very difficult, and our policy now is to settle those refugees in the camps," said Dindar Zebari, deputy chief of the Kurdish foreign relations department.

Zebari said those in the camps were free to leave, but without safe overland routes and with air transport inaccessible, they have little option but to stay.

Amnesia Amnesty International, which has expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
that the region's minorities were being specifically targeted by IS, said Wednesday most of the families stranded on the edge of Iraqi Kurdistan were Turkmen.

The Kurdistan regional government has "an obligation to allow Iraqi civilians seeking to flee the fighting to enter or transit through KRG areas," said Donatella Rovera, the London-based rights watchdog's Senior Crisis Response Adviser.

TB or not TB. It's TB.
A California high school is at the center of a tuberculosis outbreak linked to an infectious student who tested positive for active TB in February, county health officials said Wednesday.
Are they covered by Obumblecare?
Four more students at Grant Union High School in Sacramento have contracted active TB. Three related tuberculosis cases are considered an outbreak, Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services spokeswoman Laura McCasland said.
If three is an outbreak how many is an epidemic?
Four relatives and friends of the student who initially tested positive have also contracted active TB — bringing the total to nine known cases.

The 111 Brigade's senior officers along with the police have started a survey of the surrounding areas of the BBIA, especially those on the flight path, to set up pickets on the rooftops of some of the buildings. Sharpshooters will be deployed on the pickets.

Pickets to be set up on rooftops of buildings under flight path

Another team, comprising intelligence officials, also conducted a survey of the surrounding areas of the airport and suggested the establishment of the security posts on the roads near the airport.

"The objective to deploy sharp shooters is to target any such element in case they try to target any aircraft from the nearby localities during landing or takeoff," a security bigshot said on the condition of anonymity.

He, however, added that it was yet to be decided whether the sharpshooters would be from the army or the police.

During the survey, the army-police team visited Kuri Road, Asghar Mall Road, 4th Road and other areas lying under the flight path.

Iraq
ISIS controls area five times that of Lebanon in Syria
[Iraq Sun] Sunni fighters of the Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) Thursday gained control over the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ez-zor and now occupy an area five times the size of Lebanon in Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The London-based group, which cited activists in Syria, said ISIS had taken the east of Deir Ez-zor after entering the largest provincial city, Al Mayadeen, and now also controlled the country's main oilfield in Al Omar, with a capacity to produce 73,000 barrels a day.

The breakthrough came as fighters of the Al-Nusra Front, a branch of Al Qaeda in Syria, and other rebel factions pulled out of the province after announcing they would stop fighting the ISIS.

ISIS forces now dominate an area that extends from the eastern city of al-Bukamal, near the Syrian-Iraqi border, to the edges of the northwestern city of Aleppo.

In the north, the Islamists have taken a large part of the border between Syria and Turkey with the exception of the Al Hasaka Kurdish province and some arab villages, while in the south they have reached the central provinces of Hama and Homs.

On June 29, ISIS proclaimed an Islamic caliphate in the large swath of territory it holds across Syria and neighbouring Iraq.

The group has been fighting several other rebel groups in Syria since last January, including the Al-Nusra Front.

Two Gunmen Killed in Clash with Yemen Police
[AnNahar] Gunmen attacked a government complex Thursday in Yemen's central province of Baida, an al-Qaeda stronghold, sparking a firefight that killed two assailants and maimed three coppers, the defense ministry reported.

"An armed terrorist group" attacked the complex where the residence of Baida deputy governor Sinan Halqum is also located, the ministry's 26sep.net news website cited an army front man as saying.

The front man gave no further details about the assailants he labelled "terrorists", a term Yemeni authorities generally use for members of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which is frequently blamed for most anti-government attacks.

Grenade Targets Tripoli Bakery in New Ramadan-Linked Attack
The taqfiris are feeling their oats...
[AnNahar] A hand grenade was hurled Thursday near a bakery in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, in the second such attack in two days.

LBCI television said the bomb targeted a popular Manakish bakery on the Ezzeddine Street.

It said the business was apparently attacked because it continued to serve food during Ramadan's daylight fasting hours.

A car parked in the location was damaged by the kaboom.

On Wednesday, a grenade thrown into a cafe hurt four people in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh area.

The attacks come after cafes and restaurants were recently warned against opening during daylight fasting hours in Ramadan in text messages and on social media.

Last month, Tripoli municipal chief Nader Ghazal called on cafes and eateries in the city to "respect the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan and particularly fasting Moslems."

The call caused controversy, with activists saying it was a breach of personal freedom. But Ghazal said it was a voluntary request, and that those who did not comply would not face punishment.

Leb is regarded as one of the most liberal countries in the Middle East, and even during Ramadan many cafes and restaurants remain open throughout the country to serve non-Moslems or those choosing not to fast.

Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade Vows to Silence Church Bells in Bekaa
[AnNahar] The vague group known as the Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade vowed to task gunnies to attack churches in Leb and in the eastern Bekaa valley in particular.

The Brigade announced on its twitter account that a "specialized group of free jihadists were tasked with cleansing the Islamic state of Bekaa in particular and in Leb in general from the churches."

"We will target crusaders in the state and in Leb to silence the ringing of the bells," the group said.

The Brigade recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, previously known as the Islamic State of the Iraq and the Levant.

The Islamic State declared over the weekend the establishment of the "Islamic caliphate" led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, ordering ordered Mohammedans worldwide to pledge allegiance to their chief, in a spectacular bid to extend their authority.

A "caliphate" is an Islamic form of government last seen under the Ottoman Empire.

The mysterious Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade had in the past claimed that it is an affiliate of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
, but the ISIL later denied that.

On March 16, the Brigade engaged in a war of words with the al-Nusra Front in Leb, believed to be a local franchise of the Syria-based, Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front.

The dispute erupted after both groups grabbed credit on Twitter for a deadly suicide kaboom that rocked the Bekaa town of al-Nabi Othman.

The Brigade has grabbed credit for several rocket and kabooms inside Leb, the last of which were the suicide kabooms in Dahr al-Baydar and Raouche's Duroy Hotel.

Supreme Court Grants Christian College Injunction Over Obamacare Religious Exemption
[Daily Caller] The Supreme Court granted an injunction against the Obama administration’s so-called religious fix to Obamacare’s birth control mandate for a small Christian college late Thursday.

Wheaton College in Illinois will not have to sign a form signaling their religious opposition to the birth control mandate so that employees can obtain contraceptives free from their insurer until court battles over the contraceptive rule are concluded, the court announced.

150 killed in Sudan clan battle near oil field
[Pak Daily Times] A battle between rival Sudanese clans near an oil-drilling site killed 150 people and maimed 100 more, state-linked media reported on Thursday. The fighting in West Kordofan state between two sub-groups of the Misseriya tribe "continued all day because of a land dispute near the oil field," said Mohammed Omer Al-Ansari, a tribal leader. He was quoted by the Sudanese Media Centre, which is close to the security apparatus.

#1  The Misseriya, an Arab cattle nomad clan, was the first of the Arab cattle nomad clans to pledge allegiance to General Bashir following the Islamist revolution of 30 June 1989. In doing so, they jettisoned the duly elected Sadiq al-Mahdi. He was the grandson of the 19th Century Mahdi, and the "Black Flag" Misseriya had been among the most loyal of his followers. In other words, they are a treacherous bunch and the fact that they are fighting among themselves is good news indeed.

FBI: 19-year-old Colorado woman charged with aiding ISIS terror group
[ABCDenver] The FBI says a 19-year-old Colorado woman has been tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
while trying to board a flight at Denver International Airport with the goal of meeting with a terrorist group called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS.

A federal criminal complaint states that between Sept. 7, 2013 and April 8, 2014, Shannon Maureen Conley, together with others, tried to provide material support and resources, including personnel and expert advice, to a foreign terrorist organization.

Conley, a Moslem convert, was arrested April 8 at DIA after telling FBI agents she was traveling to Syria to use her American military training from the U.S. Army Explorers to aid Islamic snuffies waging jihad -- or holy war -- even though she knew that it was illegal, according to federal court records released Wednesday.

She said "legitimate targets of attack" included U.S. military bases, government employees and public officials, the documents say.

Against her parents wishes, Conley planned to marry a Tunisian man, who was fighting in Syria for ISIS, an al-Qaeda splinter group. She'd met the man online and communicated with him on Skype.

Conley has been charged with conspiring to help a foreign terrorist organization. She's being held in Denver County Jail without bond.

Hero British Army Gurkha soldiers Dipprasad Pun killed 30 Taliban single-handedly
[National Turk] A Gurkha soldier who single-handedly defeated more than 30 Taliban fighters has been awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross by the Queen.

Corporal Dipprasad Pun, 31, described how he was spurred on by the belief that he was going to die and so had nothing to lose in taking on the attackers who overran his checkpoint in Afghanistan.

Corporal Pun gallantry award is second only to the Victoria Cross -- the highest honour for bravery in the face of the enemy.

Corporal Dipprasad Pun, from the 1st Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles, was presented with the CGC during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, during which a number of other soldiers were recognised for their bravery.
Well done Corporal Dipprasad Pun, well done indeed.

#7  I heard a story from a Korean War vet.

The ChiComs attacked a position defended by the Gurkhas with significant loss of life. They pulled back and consolidated, and attacked again.

When they reached the Gurkha wire, the ChiComs were confronted with the heads of their dead, stuck on the barbed wire pickets staring down the hill toward the attackers.

Apparently the sight took the steam out of the ChiCom attack and they withdrew.

I do not know if this story is true, but I've heard it from a couple of sources...of course it could be battlefield mythology.

Iraq
Rome Will Be Conquered Next, Says Leader Of 'Islamic State'
[Telegraph] Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed leader of the 'Islamic State' stretching across Iraq and Syria, has vowed to lead the conquest of Rome as he called on Mohammedans to immigrate to his new land to fight under its banner around the globe.

Baghdadi, who holds a PhD in Islamic studies, said Mohammedans were being targetted and killed from China to Indonesia. Speaking as the first Caliph, or commander of the Islamic faithful since the dissolution of the Ottoman empire, he called on Mohammedans to rally to his pan-Islamic state.

He also called on jihadi fighters to escalate fighting in the holy month of Ramadan, which began on Sunday. "In this virtuous month or in any other month, there is no deed better than jihad in the path of Allah, so take advantage of this opportunity and walk the path of you righteous predecessors," he said. "So to arms, to arms, soldiers of the Islamic s, fight, fight."

In a reflection of the havoc wreaked the past month by the Sunni insurgency led by the group, the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
said more than 2,400 people were killed in Iraq in June, making it the deadliest month in the country in years.
More in the same vein at the link. But a historian friend pointed out an interesting tidbit about the use of Rome in the Muslim historical lexicon. She wrote, with regard to the headline above, "'Rome' in Muslim historical parlance should mean Istanbul. The country we now call Turkey was called, by Turks, Rum: the land taken from the Eastern Romans."

Escalation Scenario Starting To Fulfill Itself
[Ynet] Analysis: With murderous terror attack in Judea and Samaria, rocket fire from Gazoo and Jews seeking Dire Revenge™, reality of past few weeks resembles scenario IDF has been preparing for.

Since the jolt in the Arab world began about three years ago, the IDF has been preparing for a scenario in which a flare-up on one of the fronts the Israeli army is dealing with will spread to other arenas and eventually spark a major war on two or three fronts.

In such a war, the Israeli home front will be hit with a large amount of missiles and rockets and will become, like the home front in Gazoo and possibly in Leb, a main battlefield.

Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to thwart cross-border movement
[DAWN] Pakistain and Afghanistan agreed on Thursday to strengthen their border security cooperation mechanism to thwart any cross-border movement of gunnies and prevent terrorist activities.

The two sides made the commitment during high-level talks at the military's General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

"Both sides agreed to build further trust, continue to talk under all circumstances and evolve a robust and effective bilateral border coordination mechanism," a military front man said.

Afghan authorities had recently accused Pakistain of being involved in festivities in the Helmand

province. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
Islamabad on Tuesday expressed dismay over the allegations and denied that Pak security personnel had anything to do with the unrest.

"The issue of cross-border shelling also came under discussion. The Afghan delegation was told that Pakistain only fires back in self-defence when border posts are attacked or fired upon by gunnies from Afghan territory," the front man said.

The talks between the two sides focused on the ongoing action in North Wazoo and the armed festivities in Helmand in Afghanistan.

U.S. Embassy in Algiers Warns of Possible Attack
[AnNahar] The American embassy in Algiers has warned of a possible attack by "an unspecified terrorist group" over the weekend and advised its staff to avoid U.S.-operated hotels.

"As of June 2014 an unspecified terrorist group may have been considering attacks in Algiers, possibly in the vicinity of a U.S. branded hotel," the mission said on its website.

"The U.S. Embassy in Algeria has instructed embassy employees to avoid U.S. owned or operated hotels through the U.S. Independence Day (July 4) and Algerian Independence Day (July 5) holiday weekend."

The statement, dated Wednesday, gave no further details of the possible threat.

Violence attributed to Islamists has declined considerably in Algeria in recent years, after a decade of appalling blood-letting during the civil war of the 1990s.

But groups affiliated with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb continue to attack security forces in the eastern Kabylie region, in areas around the capital and in the south.

The last major incident in Algiers took place in December 2007, when twin suicide kabooms claimed by al-Qaeda targeted a government building and the offices of the U.N. refugee agency, killing 26 people and wounding nearly 180.

Since the 2011 uprisings toppled dictators across the region, Algeria has been increasingly vulnerable to attacks from Mali and Libya, with whom it shares vast desert borders.

In the worst attack on Algerian soil in years, al-Qaeda-linked snuffies stormed the In Amenas desert gas plant, 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) southeast of Algiers, in January 2013.

Around 40 foreign hostages, including three Americans, were killed in the four-day siege and army rescue operation that followed.

Archbishop Condemns Satanic 'Black Mass' at Okla. City Civic Center as 'Stoopid Sacrilegious'
[CNSNEWS] Catholic Archbishop Paul Coakley, head of the archdiocese of Oklahoma City, condemned a scheduled Black Mass by a satanic group, for which tickets are being sold at the Oklahoma City Civic Center, as "sacrilegious," a "blasphemous mockery of the Mass."
Why bother noticing it at all? They're only doing it to piss people off.
The archbishop also called upon community leaders and board members of the Oklahoma City Civic Center to "remedy this situation," stressing that he hoped they did not want to "enable or encourage such a flagrantly inflammatory event."

It is the first time that the Ministry of Defense (MoD) has publicly expressed criticism of the released prisoners.

"Majority of those released from the prisons are now leading the war in Afghanistan," Mohammad said. "Sadr, Mullah Omar's assistant, for instance was among the released from the Pul-e-Charkhi Prison."

Analysts have stated that the release of dangerous inmates—against whom sufficient evidence exists—was a big mistake.

"We can only detain people against whom we have criminal evidence and the government must have the capability to follow up on those they decide to release," University lecturer Nasrullah Estanikzai said. "The responsibility for the insecurities lies with those who released the inmates despite having sufficient evidence against them."

Furthermore, military experts assert that the government is responsible for the negative consequences of releasing the prisoners.

"We have heard the names and positions of the inmates released from Bagram through media," a military expert, Jawed Kohistan
...a backwoods district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa distinguished by being even more rustic than is the norm among the local Pashtuns....
i, said. "The government released them cautiously and in cooperation with some circles working closely with the Taliban. The responsibility of the current war in Afghanistan is on the government."

The release of the Taliban prisoners had followed major criticisms inside and outside the country, but received no response from the Afghan government.

home of the Minister of Culture, Habib Al-Amin, last night.

Neither the minister nor his family were present at the time, but according to the Libyan news agency LANA, the gunnies stole papers, vandalised the place, including shooting in his bedroom and at security cameras around the building, stuck a knife into personal photos and left a threatening letter.

Its contents have not been divulged.

Al-Amin, along with Justice Minister Salah Al-Marghani, was a key ally of the former premier, Ali Zeidan, and, since he was sacked, has played the same role with the present prime minister. As such, both he and Marghani have become a focus of hostility on the part of various revolutionaries and Islamists opposed to the government.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Jihadist Group Takes Credit For Teens' Killings
[IsraelTimes] A new Paleostinian jihadist group pledging allegiance to the Islamic State (formerly known as ISIL) has grabbed credit for the killing of three Israeli teenagers last month in the West Bank, as well as other recent deadly attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.

In a statement posted on jihadi websites Tuesday, the Supporters of the Islamic State in Bayt al-Maqdis said it was behind the capture and killing of "the three soldiers" in Hebron (actually, it was in the nearby Etzion bloc), sniper attacks in Hebron and Tarqumia, and missile launches from Gazoo into Israel a month and a half ago.

The actions were carried out in honor of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the self-proclaimed "caliph" of the Islamic State, the reincarnation of the Islamic State in Syria and the Levant (ISIL) declared last month, the statement said.

"We are not a partisan group like the humiliated organizations, many of whose leaders sold their religion for the benefit of politics," the communique read, in a critique of both Fatah and Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,.

"They have entered polytheistic parliaments and allied themselves with heathens and Shiite leaders, transferring their preaching and religion to the West Bank and Gazoo, God help us."

Aaron Zelin, a Richard Borow Fellow at the Washington Institute and expert on global jihadist organizations, said he knew nothing of the group.

"It is difficult to assess whether it's legitimate," he said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held Hamas responsible for the killing of Gil-ad Shaar, Naftali Fraenkel and Eyal Yifrah on June 12. On Wednesday, Hamas front man Sami Abu Zuhri
...a senior spokesman for Hamas. Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gaza. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest...
refuted a report by Sky News Arabia claiming that the movement's political chief Khaled Mashaal had denied Hamas's involvement. Abu Zuhri said Hamas "has no information on the subject."

Israel's two prime suspects in the killing — Marwan Kawasme, 29, and Amar Abu Aysha, 32 — are both member of Hamas activists in Hebron.

The jihadist statement threatened both Israel and Paleostinian Authority leaders with death and destruction.

"Our message to the Jews in Bayt al-Maqdis [the Islamic term for Jerusalem] and its environs: by occupying the land of the Mohammedans in Paleostine … you have opened a door that cannot be shut unless you leave [the land] humiliated … or [are] killed, the way you found the putrid bodies of your three soldiers. We carry in our pockets black days for you.

"To the leadership of the heretic [Paleostinian] Authority: We have surprises for you that will shake your thrones and end your aggression against Mohammedans in the West Bank and Gazoo. You have killed us and and rebelled against God … wait for us, we will come to slaughter and kill you. We shall not fail the oppressed Mohammedans until we free every believer from your prisons."

An unknown group named Hezbollah Brigades also grabbed credit for the abduction last month, saying it was retribution for the 2008 liquidation of Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyeh.

IDF Twitter account hacked, posts false warning of nuclear leak
[Ynet] 'There's a possibility of nuclear leak in the area after two rockets hit the Dimona nuclear reactor,' hackers post on IDF Spokesman's English Twitter account.

The IDF Spokesman's English Twitter account scared its 250,000 followers on Thursday when it tweeted: "There's a possibility of nuclear leak in the area after two rockets hit the Dimona nuclear reactor."

But it soon turned out the account has been hacked.

"We apologize for the incorrect tweets," the IDF Spokesman's Office wrote after deleting the misleading message. "Our twitter account was compromised. We will combat terror on all fronts including the cyber dimension."

The Syrian Electronic Army grabbed credit for the hacking, posting a screenshot on its Twitter page to prove it.

ISIS Captures Syria's Largest Oil Field Giving Group More Resources, Funds
[Ynet] Militants from the Islamic State group seized control of Syria's largest oil field from rival Islamist fighters on Thursday, strengthening its advance across the eastern Deir al-Zor province, an opposition monitoring group said.

The capture of the al-Omar oil field gives Islamic State control of crude reserves which could be useful to its advancing fighters, and underlines how the al Qaeda offshoot has eclipsed its krazed killer rivals by capturing territory and assets across Syria and Iraq in the past few weeks.

Police hunt international terrorists in Mindanao
A former Universiti Malaya lecturer is among five suspected terrorists militants hunted down by police thought to be linked to the terror groups ISIL and Abu Sayyaf. Former lecturer Dr. Mahmud Ahmad and stationery shop owner Mohd Najib Husen are believed to be leaders in the local terrorist militant group that is training and sending members to fight in Syria and Iraq.

Sources said authorities believed that the two men recruited and arranged for four Malaysians to be sent to Syria on March 5 this year, including Ahmad Tarmimi Maliki, the first Malaysian suicide bomber. One source said, "They were also responsible for arranging meetings between foreign and local militant leaders at a safe house in Shah Alam since late last year."

It's thought that the meetings were to establish a Daulah Islamiyah Asia Tenggara (South-East Asia Islamiyah network).

The sources said that Dr Mahmud, also known as Abu Handzalah, underwent training at an al-Qaeda camp in Afghanistan in the late 1990s, while he was studying at the Islamabad Islamic University in Pakistan.

The third member being sought is former Selayang Municipal Council employee Muhammad Joraimee Awang Raimee, also known as Abu Nur. A source said, "He is a spiritual leader of the group which spreads militant teachings and encourages Malaysians to fight in Syria."

The two other wanted men are Darul Islam Sabah members Mohd Amin Baco and Jeknal Adil. Sources said that both men had undergone training with Abu Sayyaf since 2005.

Police believe that Mohd Amin was involved in the brutal slaying of five people in southern Philippines in 2011, the video of which went viral on YouTube. Mohd Amin and Jeknal are also suspected of kidnapping two people in Lahad Datu on Nov 12, 2012, the sources said.

Rangers kill PPP leader's brother, a 'gang-war suspect'
[Pak Daily Times] KARACHI: Rangers killed gang-war suspect Suhail Dada in an encounter early on Thursday who turned out to be Pakistain People's Party (PPP) leader Irfan Durrani's brother.

Durrani said his brother's name was Salman Durrani, alleging that law enforcement carried out extrajudicial execution.

According to sources, Suhail Dada, a gang-war suspect was killed in an encounter with Rangers near City Station.

Rangers also recovered weapons from his possession.

Dada's brother Irfan Durrani who is the president of PPP Youth Wing South lashed out at law enforcement claiming that the slain individual was his brother Salman Durrani who was mistaken as Suhail Dada.

He alleged that Rangers kidnapped his brother from home last night and handed over the body early morning.

Durrani alleged that law enforcement carried out extrajudicial execution of his brother.

Methadar Police insist that the slain individual was a terrorist identified as Suhail Dada, adding that Dada was wanted by police in over 40 cases.

Police who earlier identified the gang-war suspect as Suhail Dada changed the statement saying the suspect's name was Salman Dada after Irfan Durrani identified the body as his slain brother.

It is pertinent to mention here that CID police had claimed to kill Suhail Dada in a raid at Napier area on June 18.

Police had said that suspect was wanted in over a hundred cases including murder, kidnapping for ransom and extortion.

The suspect also had a bounty of Rs 0.5 million over his head.

Iraqi Kurds: Time is ripe for Kurdish independence

The semi-autonomous Kurdish region in Iraq's north has for years threatened to separate from the rest of the country, and it has feuded with both the Shiite-led government in Baghdad over oil revenues and the Sunni tribes who claim authority over territory the Kurds believe is theirs.

Now, with Baghdad battling a bloody Sunni insurgency, Kurdish officials say Iraq is already split along sectarian and ethnic lines.

Hussein said the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki

Report: Roumieh Prisoners Running Terrorist Cells
[AnNahar] Security forces and the army have taken strong measures around the country's largest prison over terrorist networks run by inmates and a plan to escape from the facility, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Thursday.

The daily quoted security officials as saying that the ISF temporarily prevented the passage of vehicles on the road leading to Roumieh prison after suspects told Sherlocks that bully boyz were plotting an attack using a bomb-laden truck and inmates were planning a massive escape.

The ISF cited "security reasons" for the heavy measures, which went into effect on Tuesday night, but the officials said police had information that two of the prison's Islamist inmates were managing cells outside the facility.

"A terrorist network that has been recently busted is directly linked to the two prisoners," they told al-Akhbar.

India-Pakistan
Extremist bodies run IDP relief efforts
[DAWN] WITH a scorching sun above, barbed wires flanking both sides to maintain an orderly queue, and coppers patrolling with sticks and guns, Rizwanullah has been waiting for his turn for 10 hours. He is at this sports-complex-turned-relief-camp in Bannu to receive the government's promised ration package. It's 3pm, and he is nowhere near to getting his turn. The camp closes down at 5pm.

"I have eight family members to feed," he says. "I left everything behind, and now I have to stand in this heat. I don't even know whether my turn will come at all today."

Normally a resident of North Wazoo, Rizwanullah is one of the over half a million locals that have fled the army offensive. His hometown is in the tribal belt known to be home to Afghan Taliban, members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain and their local and foreign affiliates.

As the line crawls along slowly, a young volunteer sporting a neon green jacket with the initials FIF (which stands for the Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation) is giving water to the thirsty IDPs. Dozens of hands reach out to him at the same time, men with parched lips and clothes drenched in sweat, just like Rizwanullah. The FIF volunteer quickly serves one IDP after another, and then moves back to the relief camp set up just outside the sports complex — the only one in the vicinity — for a refill. There's a huge banner which states: "In these tough times, we are standing with you [the IDPs] — Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
."

The Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), which changed its name to FIF after it was accused of orchestrating the 2008 Mumbai attacks, was recently identified by the United States as a front for one of the world's largest terrorist groups. It was accused of carrying out an attack on an Indian consulate in Afghanistan in May. But in Pakistain, the group once also known as the Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
continues to enjoy state patronage.

"The Pakistain Army is really cooperative towards us," says Mohammad Sarfaraz, the chief organiser of the JuD camp. "We were the first ones to set up a greeting camp to receive the IDPs even though that area was in the red zone. This is the time to win the hearts and minds of these refugees, whom the government is failing. And the North Waziristan people are grateful to us. Many of them have promised to work for us — and that too for life," he proudly adds.

The organization has over 200 volunteers distributing aid across Bannu, with 25 ambulances on standby. Sarfaraz says they have given out more than 112,000 food packets, and provided medical treatment to over 10,000 patients.

And it is not just JuD that is free to operate in this region. Just half a kilometre before the sports complex, a large banner in blood-red colour bears the name of Masood Azhar, and calls him the Ameer-ul-Mujahideen. The camp, which provides water and medical facilities, also has a queue of people waiting to see the doctor.

"There are too many patients at the hospitals so we came here," says an IDP whose child is suffering from diarrhoea. This man is waiting to get medicine from the camp's pharmacist.

At first this camp's organisers are reluctant to speak to me. "We don't talk to the media because you publish anti-Sharia stories," says one of them, identifying himself as Maqsood. But upon my insistence he opens up and even tells me that his organization is involved in jihad in Kashmire and Afghanistan. "We are the soldiers of Allah and we are here to help our Mohammedan brothers," he says.

Behind him, a poster bears a picture of the Eiffel Tower with "Eurabia" written across it in English, below which there is an appeal to contribute to jihad in Syria. "We are carrying out a countrywide donation drive through mosques for the IDPs," he tells me when asked about his source of funding for the relief efforts.

After a few minutes, their senior camp organiser appears and asks me to leave. I head out to a nearby school that has been turned into an IDP camp with the help of a humanitarian organization. As I share my experience with the man there, he tells me that the organization he heads is not being allowed to set up relief camps. "The local authorities are asking us to apply for no-objection certificates while allowing religious and bad boy organizations to operate freely," says Nizam Dawar, who hails from North Waziristan and heads the Tribal Development Network which operated in the tribal belt. "These gunnies are penetrating the vulnerable IDP population to brainwash and recruit them for their purposes," he adds. "Also, these turban organizations may be giving safe passage to the fleeing gunnies who have links with them. Why is the government silent about them?"

Ethiopia Facing Flood of S.Sudan Refugees
[AnNahar] Æthiopia is facing a huge wave of refugees from South Sudan, where the specter of famine threatens to heap further misery on a people already blighted by civil war, the U.N.'s food aid agency warned on Wednesday.

"The numbers are increasing exponentially in a very short period of time," said Abdou Dieng, head of the World Food Program's Æthiopia operations.

More than 158,000 South Sudanese refugees have already crossed the border to reach camps in neighboring Æthiopia, according to U.N. figures released Wednesday.

At least 1,500 more are arriving every week, and the U.N. forecasts South Sudanese refugee numbers could double to 300,000 by the end of the year.

"The situation is not improving in South Sudan, so we expect that they will continue to come. If there is a famine in South Sudan, as many people think there will be, that will push more people to come into Æthiopia," he told news hounds.

All told there are currently almost 570,000 refugees -- largely women and kiddies -- in camps in the country.

Apart from the South Sudanese, most are from Somalia, which huge numbers fled amid conflict and a 2011 drought, and Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
, where mounting numbers are escaping the iron grip of the country's regime.

"The government has a policy that they call the 'open-door policy' for refugees. Æthiopia today is hosting one of the biggest refugee numbers, without talking too much about it," said Dieng.

The U.N. needs around $20 million (14.6 million euros) per month to help feed refugees in Æthiopia, but is facing a massive funding shortfall and fears that its coffers will be empty by October, he added.

South Sudan only gained its independence from Sudan three years ago after decades of fighting, and has been ravaged by ethnically-tinged conflict between rebels and the government since December.

The fighting has driven more than one million people from their homes, meaning that many farmers have missed the planting season.

Do not go gentle into that good night

Dylan Thomas, 1914 - 1953

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Arab Youth: I Was Beaten And Stabbed By Jewish Attackers
[Ynet] Attack on Kafr Qasem resident came shortly after bodies of missing teens discovered; victim says attackers called him 'stinking Arab.'

Moussa Abu Iyad, a 23-year-old man from Kafr Qasem has filed a complaint with Petah Tikva police alleging that he was attacked by eight Jews on Monday night because he was an Arab. The attack came shortly after the discovery of the bodies of Naftali Frenkel, Eyal Yifrach and Gil-Ad Shaer, the three Israeli teens kidnapped on June 12 in the West Bank.

Abu Iyad told police that the eight men brutally beat him and stabbed him five times in the lower body. Due to the severity of his wounds, he was taken by ambulance for medical treatment, and required 16 stitches.

Abu Iyad told Ynet that he was attacked after he left his home following his evening meal. During the month of Ramadan, which began on Saturday, Moslems do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset.

"After breaking the fast, I went for a bike ride at 11 pm on Monday," he said. "At the entrance to the city, several people in two cars asked me to pull over, claiming to be coppers."

He says that after he complied, the men got out of their cars and attacked him. "They swore at me and told me, 'You are a stinking Arab and you don't deserve to live. Arabs belong in the grave'."

Abu Iyad says he managed to escape, and heard one of them say that they should also flee the scene before he could make a note of the cars' license plates.

"The attack happened because the boys were kidnapped and murdered and everything that is going on Hebron," Abu Iyad said. "I don't fight with anyone, and everyone respects me. I hope the police find the people behind this attack."

Abu Iyad's close relative, Jamal Bari, branded the attack terrorism, and called on the police to find those who carried out it.

"We condemn this incident," Bari said. "This terrorist act and there is no way that this will pass in silence. The police must make every effort to stop these lawbreakers."

The police confirmed that they had received a complaint on Monday about an attack on a resident of Kafr Qasem.

"We are making every effort to find the suspects involved," said a police front man. "We are investigating all leads, including a nationalistic motive."

This is not the first suspected case of an attack on an Arab following the murder of the three teens. On Wednesday, police found the body of an Arab teenager in the Jerusalem area, and were investigating a possible connection to the reported kidnapping of a Paleostinian youth in East Jerusalem earlier in the day. Ynet learned that the youth's body was burned and showed signs of violence.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Truck By Truck, Israel Builds Trade Gateway To Arab World
[Rooters] The hydraulic ramp of a Turkish freighter taps down on the eastern Mediterranean port of Haifa and, under a full moon, 37 trucks roll off onto an otherwise empty pier.

In a convoy that stretches hundreds of meters, the trucks travel east across northern Israel, bringing goods from Europe to customers in Jordan and beyond.

Until three years ago the cargo these trucks carry — fruits, cheese, raw material for the textile industry, spare parts, and second-hand trucks — would have come through Syria. But civil war has made that journey too perilous.

Three years after Syria plunged into violence, Israel is reaping an unlikely economic benefit. The number of trucks crossing between Israel and Jordan has jumped some 300 percent since 2011, to 10,589 trucks a year, according to the Israel Airports Authority. In particular, exports from Turkey — food, steel, machinery and medicine — have begun to flow through Israel and across the Sheikh Hussein Bridge to Jordan and a few Arab neighbors. Turkey's Directorate General of Merchant Marine, part of that country's transport ministry, said that transit containers shipped to Israel for passage on to other countries increased to 77,337 tonnes in 2013 from 17,882 tonnes in 2010.

The trade, though still small, is growing enough to encourage long-held Israeli hopes that the Jewish state can become a commercial gateway to the Arab world. Israel plans to invest at least 6 billion shekels ($1.7 billion) in infrastructure over the next six years to improve the trade route. In the past, some Israeli businessmen and diplomats have lamented the way politics have hurt economic opportunities; others have kept any trade with their Arab neighbors quiet so as not to upset them. Now they see a chance to boost economic and political relations.

Afghanistan
Amarkhail Would Not Escape If Innocent: Nuristani
[Tolo News] The Chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has called Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhail, former IEC Secretariat, guilty emphasizing that Amarkhail's alleged involvement in fraud has threatened the entire election process.

In an exclusive interview with TOLOnews, IEC Chairman Ahmad Yusef Nuristani implied that his views regarding Amarkhail had changed after listening to his recorded phone conversations.

"If Amarkhail was not involved in election fraud, he would not have beat feet from the country," Nuristani said.

This is while Nuristani had earlier claimed, at a presser on June 16, that the fraud accusations against Amarkhail were baseless.

"We do not have any justified evidence against Amarkhail, hence we will end the issue right here," Nuristani had stated on June 16. "If Dr. Abdullah has any evidence he should present it to the commission. The accusations are baseless."

Amarkhail resigned from his position soon after the release of his telephone conversations about engineering fraud in the election results. Soon after, on July 1, he left the country for the UAE.

According to the Head of Kabul Airport, Muhammad Yaqub Rasooli, Amarkhail left Kabul airport through the VIP exit with an ordinary passport. He added that the government officials cannot travel through VIP unless they have a political passport or an order from President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
.

"Amarkhail left for Dubai through a FlyDubai flight on July 1," Rasooli said.

Rasooli asserted that the commander of border police along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) must answer as to why Amarkhail was allowed to travel through the VIP with an ordinary passport.

In response, the MoFA front man said that Amarkhail's travel through VIP was not coordinated through the ministry. MoFA added that Amarkhail traveled in a vehicle with no license-plate and his driver took his passport by the border police.

According to another source, a vehicle with no license-plate took Amarkhail to the plane and was the last person to board the FlyDubai plane.

The Kabul Border Police Chief, Haqnawaz Haqyar, refrained from commenting about the matter.

Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie ducked another tomato...
a source from the IEC said Amarkhail has not returned the IEC resources and other equipments such as his laptop and iPad as well as four vehicles.

India-Pakistan
Musharraf's 'abettors'
[DAWN] PUSHED into the background — but only just — by other events, the political status of the Musharraf trial is difficult to know at the moment. Is the government willing to push ahead with a trial or will it bow to the (il)logic of civil-military relations and allow Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
to leave the country? Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, Gloria slowly backed away from the eight-foot bull frog. If the creature croaked she would surely be deafened...
the defence team of the former dictator is doing its best to drum up scandal and headlines in the likely hope that it will build further pressure on the government. The latest move is to try and build some hype around a so-called abettors' list, essentially the individuals in the military and the government who allegedly advised Mr Musharraf to impose the November 2007 Emergency. There are two aspects here worth commenting on. First, whether or not there were abettors would hardly make a difference to the trial that Mr Musharraf faces. Ultimately, it was the former military strongman who signed on the dotted line of the Emergency order — a patently illegal move, the illegality of which in no way is diminished whether he acted alone or on the advice of others. The defence team appears to be simply trying to turn up the political temperature by dragging other then-senior military figures into the picture in the hope that it will cause the government to back down from insisting on a Musharraf trial.

Second, setting aside the obvious motives of the defence team in repeatedly bringing up the issue of those who allegedly collaborated with Mr Musharraf, there is a real and important issue here too: for all the emphasis on the dictator himself, the reality is that military rule is only possible because of the many senior politicians, judges, bureaucrats and other public officials who collaborate with dictatorships. Go back to the original sin, ie October 1999. From the very fact that the coup was launched while then Gen Musharraf was still in the air, to all the constitutional and legal contortions necessary to validate the takeover, to the technocrats and politicians who rushed to Mr Musharraf's side to help him establish his rule — virtually everything that took place required the dictator to rely on aiders and abettors who helped build the lie of constitutional, political and electoral legitimacy. Surely, if the door to dictatorship is to remain shut forever, those who helped build and sustain dictatorships should also be held to account.

Dr Qadri announces 'civil disobedience movement'
[Pak Daily Times] Pakistain Awami Tehrik (PAT) leader Tahirul Qadri
...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him...
on Thursday asked the civil servants and personnel of law enforcement agencies to disobey government orders.

Addressing a presser on Thursday, Qadri advised the "corrupt government officers" to mend their ways and start performing their duties strictly in accordance with the law and constitution. The controversial holy man asked the security and police personnel to doff their uniforms, and warned that if they do not do so, they would be hanged after his "revolution". "After my revolution these coppers and civil servants would be hanged, no matter if they are in hundreds and thousands," Qadri warned.

He said that after his "revolution", these people would be brought to justice within 15 days. The holy man claimed that the incumbent government and its "corrupt rulers" will be shown the door in the next few weeks. "The government officials take their salaries from the state and not from Raiwind," the PAT chief snapped. Qadri said the process of accountability will be initiated against the unscrupulous government officials and it will only take fifteen days to complete.

Qadri said his "revolution" does not need the support of "tsunami", a reference to the Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
-led Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.N.: Syria Refugees Soon a Third of Lebanon Population
[AnNahar] Syrian refugees will constitute more than a third of Leb's population by the end of 2014, the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
said Thursday, warning of an increasingly unsustainable burden to the economy.

A report released in Beirut said the number of refugees will be 1.5 million by December, or a third of the country's population of four million.

Some 53 percent of the Syrian refugees in the country are children, the report added.

"We no longer have the capacity to carry this burden alone... We have crossed all limits," Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas said at a gathering of officials, ambassadors and the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees representative, Ninette Kelley.

Leb currently hosts 1.1 million refugees, the highest number at 38 percent of Syrian refugees fleeing the war-torn country for other countries in the region.

The U.N. says the country needs $1.6 billion (1.2 billion euros) for 2014 to be able to cope with the refugee crisis, but that only 23 percent of this has been gathered.

"We are really facing critical and dire challenges," the UNHCR's Kelley said.

"With the current level of funding... will not meet the target that we set... (to have) over 172.000 children in school next year."

She also warned that the UNHCR "will not be able to launch a polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
vaccination campaign for all children in Leb under five", should the necessary funding fail to materialize.

Kelley said 800,000 refugees will be unequipped to face winter, and 30,000 people including Lebanese will not have access to safe drinking water without the necessary financing.

"We need you to stand with us, we need you to stand with Leb to ensure that more funding is secured," she said, addressing donor countries.

Also on Thursday, the United Nations launched a similar appeal in Jordan, where some 600,000 Syrians have sought refuge since war broke out in their homeland three years ago.

According to Central Bank of Leb statistics, the country faces a financial burden of $4.5 billion because of the refugee crisis.

In May, the International Monetary Fund said unemployment had doubled to 20 percent because of the refugee influx. It also warned growth was two percent lower than before the crisis.

Last December, the U.N. appealed for $6.5 billion for Syria war victims. It received $2.3 billion, and officials say the 2014 plan for the region has received just a quarter of the pledged funds.

The US Is Flying Right Into The Iran-Russia-Syria Plan In Iraq
"With this increased commitment of U.S. military assets to Iraq, the U.S. isn't just forcing itself to coordinate logistics with the Iranian-Syrian-Russian alliance in the Middle East. It's also bringing American policy alarmingly close to that of some of the region's more destructive forces — whether Obama intends for this or not."

#9  OOOOOOOOO, to be so close but once again still so far.

Methinks its more correct to say that Iran-Russia-Syria are falling or following alleged Marxist-Globalist-Anarchist POTUS Obama's plan, NOT the other way around.

The Globies like others IDEALLY desire to avoid any kind of serious or major, let alone catastrophic or mutually destructive, MilPol confrontation amongst the Great Powers - to that end, as a OWG Globalist the Bammer is broadly but intentionally allowing Rising Iran, Putinist Russia, + Rising China to unilater EXPAND THEIR SPHERES OF POWER-N-INFLUENCE IN LIKELY ANTICIPATION OF THESE SAME BECOME OWG GLOBALIST CO-SUPERPOWERS = PRINCIPAL NATIONS IN CHARGE OR OTHERWISE DOMINATING THE LESSOR STATES WIDIN THEIR PERTINENT OWG GLOBAL FEDERAL UNIONS AS SET UP ON THEIR CONTINENTS OR IN THEIR REGIONS.

The problem for the Globies is that they seemingly forgot to ask the smaller states iff they wanted OWG Global Federal Union andor iff they wanted their "Unions" or blocs to be led or dominated by these select OWG "Co-Superpowers".

ANother prob for the Superpower US = HOW MUCH SOVERIEGNTY + TERRITORY(S) CAN THE US GIVE UP FAR, OR HOW FAR CAN THE US GEOPOL RETREAT OR FALL BACK IN SAFETY WIDOU BEING EXISTENTIALLY THREATENED BY IRAN + RUSSIA + CHINA, ETC. = GEOPOL WANNABES.

BECAUSE THE US IS NOW PERCEIVED AS "WEAK" BECAUSE IT GAVE UP OR FELL BACK TOO MUCH , TOO FAST, TOO FAR.

Remember, most of these Islamist Militanst come from extremely poor backgrounds wid little to no education of any sort save in pro-Radicalist, pro-Jihad Madrassas - THEYE NEVER HEARD OF "OWG-NWO" OR "GLOBALISM", NOR DO THEY CARE FOR IT. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS WHETHER AN ENEMY ARMY CAN DEFEAT OR DESTROY THEIR ARMY, + PREVENT THEM FROM TAKING WHAT THEY WANT FROM THE VANQUISHED.

Once again, to paraph KRAUTHAMMER = "SAY IT WID ME, AMERIKA, OOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPSSSSSS"!

Clashes Resume In East Jerusalem: Protesters Hurl Stones At Police
[Ynet] After a relatively quiet morning, protests over the dead of Arab teen resume in Shuafat; Yasam police maimed, treated on the scene.

After a relatively quiet morning, the protests in East Jerusalem resumed on Thursday afternoon when dozens of Arab youths started sitting trash cans on fire and hurl stones at police in Shuafat.

The confrontations between protesters and security forces started on Wednesday after the body of Muhammad Hussein Abu Khdeir was found in the Jerusalem forest. Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
laid the blame for the murder of the Arab teen on Israel and protesters believe his murder came as retribution for the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teens, whose bodies were found near Hebron earlier this week.

The protesters, many of them masked, also fired fireworks at the police forces. A Yasam policeman was hurt and treated on the scene. Security forces were using crowd dispersal means.

An autopsy of the Arab teen's body has been completed on Thursday in the presence of a Paleostinian doctor at the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute, and the results of the autopsy has were given to police.

Defense Minister and former chief of staff Moshe Ya'alon accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of not combating terrorism with a strong enough hand, which Ya'alon asserted was the reason Israel's deterrence has eroded.

"A policy of calm for calm means we accept the situation in which boys on their way home are being kidnapped and murdered. It means we accept a situation in which live in the south are a danger and continuous nightmare, and mostly we just encourage our enemies to set the agenda for us as they please, and this is a grave mistake," he said.

"Why are we, a sovereign nation with a strong army, begging a terror organization to give us calm? We need to recover the deterrence in a way that they are the ones begging for calm. What are we teaching our enemies all over the world? That they can do anything to us and we'll turn the other cheek," he continued.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Jewish Family Secretly Smuggled Into Israel From Syria
[Ynet] Nine members of a Syrian-Jewish family brought into Israel secretly in undercover mission. 'They have no home but Israel,' official involved mission tells Ynet.

A Syrian-Jewish family has been secretly smuggled into Israel and out of harms way in a dramatic rescue operation, it was cleared for publication Thursday.

This was the first time in over three years of the Syrian civil war that a Jewish family has left the war-torn country for Israel. They made the secretive journey in a number of tranches until they reunited before with the family just before Independence Day at the beginning of May this year.

The story has been known for some time now, but because the operation was still taking place, it was put under censor. Even now, the story's full details can not be published.

In the first stage the mother and the eldest son crossed into with the help of both Israelis and non-Israelis who cannot be identified. After a few weeks additional family members made their way into Israel.

A source closely involved in the issue told Ynet that "what is amazing is that out of nine million Syrians who have been left without a home, these nine have a home and it is the State of Israel. We must understand that if they wouldn't have made it to Israel, they would have remained homeless.

"When they left they were afraid, but more from the possible ramification it could have on Israel."

According to assessments, only a handful of Syria's once-thriving Jewish community still lives in the country. Like the holy sites of Christians, those belonging to Jews have also been targeted or at least fallen victim to fighting.

Most notably, the Eliyahu Hanabi Synagogue in the Jobar neighborhood of Damascus, which was ruined at the end of May when the regime attempted to overcome rebels in the area. It is one of the world's oldest synagogues and is believed to be on the place Elijah the prophet anointed his student Elisha to be a prophet.

IDF Begins To Shift Forces South As Rocket Fire Continues
[Ynet] Officials says Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, behind rocket fire at Israel, claims attack is in retribution for death of Paleostinian teen Wednesday; as IDF prepare for possible Gazoo operation.

The IDF has begun shifting forces to the Gazoo area, in preparation of a possible escalation in the conflict with Hamas. Israel believes Hamas was directly behind the massive rocket fire at Israel Thursday morning which saw more than 11 rockets slam into Israel, with three hitting residential structures and causing damage.

According to an official source within the defense establishment, Hamas has begun firing rockets itself in retribution for what the death of Mohammed Abu Khder, a Paleostinian youth who was found dead in a Jerusalem forest Wednesday.

Police are investigating the possibility he was killed by Jews as a Dire Revenge™ attack for the murder of the three Israeli teens who were presumed to have been kidnapped but were discovered dead Monday in a West Bank valley.

The IDF began preparing for an escalation in the south and artillery forces training in other regions were transferred to the Gazoo area. Though the forces were not large in number, they give the IDF the ability to quickly respond and embark on a larger operation, should it decide to do so.

A senior IDF official said that the IDF was "preparing for a wider operation in Gazoo," and Paleostinians have reported that Israeli warships across from Gazoo's shores also seem to be preparing. It is possible the shift in forces is intended as a warning to Hamas.

It is far from certain that the IDF is planning to undertake a massive ground operation. Though both sides have expressed a desire not to escalate the situation, should rocket fire increase in scope and range or exact heavy causalities, the military will be forced to lock horns with Hamas.

Hamas rockets
Last Monday saw the first rocket attack by Hamas since the end of Operation Pillar of Defense ended in 2012, with a wave of attacks overnight Sunday and early Monday emanating from central Gazoo refugee camps completely under Hamas control.

There a number of Paleostinian factions active in Gazoo and though Israel views Hamas as responsible for any rockets fired from the Gazoo territory, the group generally avoids such direct attacks on Israel.

Ynet's senior national security corresponded, Ron Ben-Yishai, claimed the current round of escalation had yet to reach its zenith: "We can still stop the Gazoo escalation, but it currently seems unlikely. The fear is that tensions will spill into riots in Jerusalem which will further spread out.

"The norm is that before you take things one step up — you give some form of notice. The IDF needs to send the Paleostinians the message that they are preparing themselves for the next escalation, whether it is a large operation or even an incursion into Gazoo."

Since the Pillar of Defense ended, the majority of rockets fired at Israel — currently standing at over 200 in 2014 alone — have been launched by either the Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
or the Popular Resistance Committees. At time, smaller Salafist groups have also fired rockets or carried out attacks at Israel.

The fact that Hamas — which recently signed a controversial reconciliation agreement with Paleostinian President Abbas' Fatah movement — is behind the attack could mean the group has chosen to escalate its response to Israel's retaliatory attacks.

Over ten rockets slammed into Israel overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning, with four of them hitting homes in Sderot. The last two struck a house in the city which hosted a summer camp and another residence. The rocket that penetrated the structure used as a camp failed to explode and no one was injured.

Three rockets went kaboom! in populated areas in Sderot overnight Thursday, while one of them hit a student's apartment in the city and the other went kaboom! adjacent to an apartment building. Yet another rocket slammed into a wall of an outdoor rocket shelter, fracturing it. Some four people suffered anxiety as a result of the barrage.

In addition, two rockets from the morning barrage were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system and the others landed in open areas in Sdot Negev and Bnei Shimon in the northern Negev, apart from one that hit a greenhouse in the area.

About two hours following the barrage of rockets, the IAF attacked 15 Hamas terror targets in the Gazoo Strip, including concealed rocket launchers, training compounds and weapon-storage facilities.is

The IAF also struck rocket-launching terrorist cells in the southern Gazoo Strip on Wednesday. The attack was carried out after a volley of rockets was fired on Wednesday afternoon at western Negev communities, continuing a general escalation in tensions. Direct hits were confirmed on all targets.

Embassy in Uganda Warns of 'Specific Threat' to Airport
THE UNITED STATES Embassy in Uganda said it had been warned of a “specific threat” of attack to the country’s main airport on Thursday and that travelers therefore “may want to review their plans.”.

The warning was one of several recent alarms in restive East Africa, where governments have sought to counter threats, particularly those by Al Shabab militant movement based in SOMALIA.

The embassy did not specify WHAT THE threat entailed, but said it had “received information from the Uganda Police Force that, according to intelligence sources, “there is a specific threat to Entebbe International Airport,” which serves the capital, Kampala. The warning, in a statement on the embassy’s website, said the attack could take place between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Thursday.

“U.S. Embassy Kampala wishes to remind U.S. citizens of the continued threat of potential terrorist attacks in the country,” the statement said. “The targets for these attacks could include HOTELS, restaurants, nightclubs, shopping malls, diplomatic missions, transportation hubs, religious institutions, government offices, or public transportation.”

The embassy’s warning followed a separate alert on Wednesday by Uganda’s Civil Aviation Authority, Reuters reported. The alert also coincided with alarms about flights from Europe and the Middle East to THE UNITED STATES because of concerns that militants may have developed explosives undetectable by conventional airport security devices.

According to Agence France-Presse, a Ugandan Army spokesman, Paddy Ankunda, said on Thursday that troops had been deployed at THE AIRPORT and in the capital.

“People must be vigilant IN THE FACE of this threat, report any suspicious individuals seen in their areas,” he said, calling on people to “stay calm and alert.”
