Maryland governor calls on Baltimore mayor to resign following FBI raid
[THEGUARDIAN] Maryland’s governor has called on the mayor of Baltimore to resign.

The state’s governor, Larry Hogan, a Republican, called on Thursday morning for Catherine Pugh to leave office "for the good of the city".

Agents with the FBI and Internal Revenue Service carried out a raid on Baltimore city hall and two homes belonging to the mayor on Thursday morning, amid widening investigations to determine whether she used sales of her children’s books to disguise government kickbacks.

"Mayor Pugh has lost the public trust" and was "clearly not fit to lead", Hogan added.

Dave Fitz, an FBI front man, confirmed to the local paper that search warrants were being executed at those locations early on Thursday morning, according to a Baltimore Sun report.

Pugh had previously stepped aside temporarily following a growing scandal involving her sales of self-published children’s books, and amid declining public confidence.

The troubled city is still embroiled in the fallout of shattered trust between many neighborhoods in the city and the police department following the death of a young African American man, Freddie Gray, after being transported in a police van in 2015.

FBI raids Baltimore City Hall and Mayor's home
[Hot Air] Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh has been on "sick leave" for more than a month as a growing corruption scandal has engulfed her office. But as we've discussed here before, there is no provision under the current city charter, state or municipal law allowing her to be removed from office unless she's convicted of a crime. That would allow her to just ignore all the calls for her resignation and stick it out until the next election. But now things may have changed.

This morning, with little or no public notice in advance, FBI agents, along with the IRS, raided both City Hall and the Mayor's home, carting out boxes of evidence.
She's dirty as hell, and probably didn't declare all her bribe extortion graft income

#3  There is a special place in hell for people that eat dogs.

I like dogs and have had them as pets. But not everyone shares our liking for predator species as pets. For much of the world, dogs are working animals* and/or food, just like cattle. Ironically, Indonesia would be a better place if dog consumption were universal there. Because that would mean the local population were either non-Muslim or non-observant Muslims.

* Dogs are not particularly rare and they breed like rabbits. The mutts I looked after (Boxer mixes - great dogs that never ever chomped down on me, even though we were more or less the same size for a while) had multiple litters over the course of their lives.

Science & Technology
Teen sues Apple for $1 billion over Apple stores' facial recognition
In March 2018, 18-year-old high schooler Ousmane Bah got a learner's permit to drive in the city of New York. Then, he lost it.
What follows is the unholy marriage of technology and bypassing due process

[NakedSecurity] No biggie, right? It had his name, address, date of birth, sex, height, and eye color, but it didn't have his photo. These things are just printed receipts, issued as interim permits until an official permit arrives in the mail.

As far as identity theft goes, Bah didn't worry about it. The license said on its face that it wasn't meant to serve for identification purposes. He'd get an actual permit in the mail shortly, so he didn&'t file a police report.

Unfortunately, there was more for Bah to worry about than he realized. He got a summons to appear in Boston municipal court. He had been accused of larceny over $1,200 for allegedly ripping off multiple Apple pencils, each of which retail for $99, from an Apple store in Boston.

Bah says he's never been to Boston before the 27 June arraignment. What's more, on the date of the alleged theft, he'd been at his senior prom in Manhattan. That wouldn't be the only criminal charges he'd face, either.

According to a lawsuit Bah filed on Monday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, he';s been charged with similar crimes in multiple jurisdictions, including Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York, all for allegedly ripping off Apple stores. Three of the cases have been dropped, the suit said, but the one in New Jersey is still pending.

Bah is suing Apple for $1 billion for what his suit says is Apple's reliance on facial recognition software to identify a suspect, who, the suit says, must have gotten his hands on Bah's photo-less interim license. That permit was never supposed to be used as identification, yet Apple allegedly failed to use anything else to verify the true suspect's identity. From the suit:

The irony here is that Defendant [Apple] relied heavily on one method of identification ‐ facial recognition software ‐ and failed to use a more labor-intensive form of verifying the true suspect's identity. The latter method is similar in many ways to multi-step authentication; it requires the use of information from various, reliable sources, such as a driver's license photograph or a government-issued identification card that contains a photograph, to confirm a particular individual's identity. Given the number of individuals who provide false identification when suspected of committing a crime, it is remarkable that Defendant blindly accepted the photograph-less learner's permit as a valid form of identification.

Does Apple really use facial recognition to identify shoplifters? As the Washington Post reports, the company declined to comment on the lawsuit itself, but it did say that it does not, in fact, use the technology in its stores.

HOW IN THE WORLD DID APPLE FINGER BAH FOR THE CRIME?
According to the lawsuit, Bah, who was arrested at his home in November, was served a warrant that had somebody else's photo on it. The suit claims that a New York detective who viewed surveillance video from the Manhattan store concluded that the alleged thief "looked nothing like" Bah.

The suspect' height, in fact, didn't match what was listed on Bah's learner's permit.

Similar to the detective's conclusion, the Boston district attorney, after looking at surveillance footage, dismissed the case against Bah.

Bah's suit claims that none of these charges should have been made against him. They were because Apple allegedly accepted an interim permit, without a photo, that never should have been used for identification purposes, as a valid form of identification.

Bah has been forced to travel to multiple states to fight these spurious charges, the suit claims, was subject to a "shocking and traumatic" arrest at his home at 4:00 am, has been shamed and humiliated, and was forced to miss multiple days at school, which has brought down his grades.

Besides the $1 billion, the suit seeks a declaration that Apple "wrongfully and baselessly damaged" Bah's reputation, and a court order compelling Apple to "address the mistake in the stored data" that links Bah's identifying information to the company's facial recognition technology.

#2  Officially known as Project-09852, the submarine was originally an Oscar II-class cruise missile submarine that the Russian government ran of funds to complete. The submarine hull sat unfinished until Moscow decided to complete it as a special mission submarine.

The hull was lengthened to approximately 184 meters (604 feet) and the ship’s displacement ballooned to 30,000 tons submerged--more than fifty percent greater than the U.S. Navy’s Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines. The result of an unfinished hull the Belgorod is a one-off, and there will not be another one like it.

That big, with the huge displacement, and an old-style propulsion and signature will make sure it's only secret when it goes missing
Posted by: Frank G || 04/25/2019 12:16 Comments || Top||

#3  Oscar II subs were noisy in the 80s. If it uses the same power plant, propulsion and coatings as the Oscars... it will be like an underwater rave going on noise wise. Even updated I doubt it could stay hidden near listening posts or newer subs.

Maybe they mean for this to sit in tight areas rigged for silence and then pepper convoys with torpedoes and run like hell.

Putin: NKorea ready to denuclearize if it gets guarantees
VLADIVOSTOK, Russia (AP) ‐ Russian President Vladimir Putin said after his summit with Kim Jong Un Thursday that the North Korean leader is ready to proceed toward denuclearization ‐ but needs solid security guarantees to do so.

Putin said that he will be willing to share details of the summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, adding that "there are no secrets." He noted that Kim himself encouraged him to explain certain nuances of Pyongyang's position to Trump.
"nuances". Aye, there's the rub
The summit on Russky Island, across a bridge from the far-eastern port city of Vladivostok, reflected Russia's effort to emerge as an essential player in the North Korean nuclear standoff, a role that would raise Moscow's global clout and its leverage with Washington.

Putin emphasized that the North Korean leader is ready to move toward a nuclear-free status but would only proceed when he gets solid guarantees. He did not, however, specify what those guarantees would look like. "Above all, he focuses on protecting national interests and security," Putin said.

Brennan should be held accountable for his role in advancing the Russian hoax
[Conservative Review] The president has been exonerated on allegations of Russian collusion, and now, as investigators and the media pick up the pieces on the long-running hoax, more attention has turned to the major players behind the operation, including former CIA chief and current NBC "analyst" John Brennan, who played an integral role in the launch of the unprecedented surveillance operation ‐ and the smear campaign thereafter ‐ against the president, members of the Trump campaign, and Trump-connected individuals.

Brennan’s personal role in the Trump-Russia collusion saga dates back to at least the summer of 2016 (and perhaps even earlier) when he met with a top British intelligence chief to discuss Trump’s supposed ties to the Russians. Around the time of that meeting, and following its conclusion, American and foreign spies began to make contact with members of the Trump campaign, with some claiming to have access to Russian secrets involving the Hillary Clinton campaign. Brennan later seemed to take credit and defend the espionage operation, which again, relied on the dossier to legitimize spying on Americans.

Brennan, as CIA director, reportedly inserted the Clinton-funded-and-manufactured Steele dossier into a draft version of the highly scandalous Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) on Russian interference, which was published under the auspices of Donald Trump’s political opponents in early January 2017, just two weeks before President-elect Trump took office.

Bush 41 was a former Director with no apparent desire for a 2nd term. 42 appeared to have some rather deep agency connections. 42 was followed by 41 Junior, then 8 years of the mysterious late sleeper and fellow traveler Barry Soetoro. Soetoro was scheduled to be followed by Slick Willie's beloved wife.

Anzac Day, April 25, 2019
[Australian War Memorial] Anzac Day, 25 April, is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as Anzacs, and the pride they took in that name endures to this day.

The Australian and New Zealand forces landed on Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turkish defenders. What had been planned as a bold stroke to knock Turkey out of the war quickly became a stalemate, and the campaign dragged on for eight months. At the end of 1915 the allied forces were evacuated from the peninsula, with both sides having suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships. More than 8,000 Australian soldiers had died in the campaign. Gallipoli had a profound impact on Australians at home, and 25 April soon became the day on which Australians remembered the sacrifice of those who died in the war.

Although the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives, the actions of Australian and New Zealand forces during the campaign left a powerful legacy. What became known as the "Anzac legend" became an important part of the identity of both nations, shaping the ways in which they viewed both their past and their future.

The household altar on which she also lays out his favorite snacks sits next to the boom box on which she’ll soon be blasting out Green Day’s "21st Century Breakdown." When she gets a day off from the Paul Smith store where she sells semipunk English fashions, she travels two hours‐each way‐by train to talk to her grandmother, who left this earth in 1979. Hiroko still remembers how whenever she kicked a chair as a little girl, her father told her to apologize. The chair had a soul and heart too, he reminded her. What had it done to harm her?

Some of this may sound strange to the fashion-mad kids in Tokyo’s Harajuku district. The ancient capitals around which Hiroko and I live, Nara and Kyoto, take Japan’s traditions more seriously than do the rebuilt cities of modern Japan. And Hiroko in her autumn years is certainly more diligent about honoring old customs than she might have been in her springtime years. Yet the fact remains: on arriving in Kyoto in 1987, from midtown Manhattan, I was struck most by the trendy girls in fishnet stockings, the ubiquitous burger joints, the sound of pinball racketing through fluorescent shopping arcades. After 32 years around my adopted home, I’m most startled by the resilience of everything that’s old.

Geopolitically, this hasn’t been a blessing. Japan regularly finishes close to the bottom in all of Asia‐far behind North Korea, Cambodia and Indonesia‐when it comes to English-language proficiency. At Princeton, where I’m teaching this month, the classrooms are full of students from Shanghai and Mumbai and Singapore; I have yet to encounter a single one from Japan. As the number of international visitors to Japan has surged, from 5 million in 2003 to 31 million last year‐the number may reach 40 million with the Tokyo Olympics next year‐the country is eager to make foreigners feel at home. Yet what draws us visitors to the island nation is not how familiar it feels but how distinct.

Many might say, in fact, that Japan has not strayed far from the hermit kingdom it remained for more than 200 years, when any citizen trying to leave the islands was executed. In recent years it’s found that marketing its past is almost its only way of fashioning a future, economically. After urbanist Richard Florida at the University of Toronto measured 45 countries for their closeness to tradition, modern-seeming Japan came out No. 1. Culturally, this makes for an evergreen advantage: the birthplace of sushi and manga and ramen is in no danger of being mistaken for anywhere else. In an age of global migration, the continuity of Japan has become selling point as well as affliction.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
UK Intelligence Doth Protest Too Much On Charges It Spied On The Trump Campaign
BLUF:
[Red State] No one said anything about GCHQ, the claim was about MI5, MI6, and GCHQ. And no one said anything about "wire tapping," the charge is "spying." It would have been easier and more pointed to deny Johnson’s allegations, but they didn’t. Instead they are obfuscating the issue by trying to change the discussion from "spying" to "wire tapping."

This is a classic example of the non-denial denial.

The significant thing here, I believe, is that after two years of this nonsense, Trump undoubtedly knows a great deal of what happened. He’s going to London for a state visit in June and even Trump isn’t so gauche as to call out the Brits for their complicity in the collusion hoax without evidence. I take the tweet of Johnson’s interview as a signal that he does know and that he will want to talk to someone about it.

In the fullness of time, we are going to find that the odious toad-man, John Brennan, was the pivot man on this particular circle jerk. It is obvious that foreign intelligence services were enlisted to keep tabs on members of the Trump campaign. They were probably enlisted as plausible deniability so the NSA couldn’t be accused of surveillance of American citizens. It is equally obvious that foreign nationals, known to be intelligence assets, were aimed at members of the Trump campaign in an effort to create facts. And it serves the best interests of neither us nor the UK to pretend that this did not happen.
Emphasis added.

[Los Alamos National Laboratory] Visualizing ocean asteroid impact
An asteroid splashing down in one of Earth’s oceans could inject billions of tons of water into the atmosphere, but the risk of a catastrophic tsunami is actually relatively small. Scientists from Los Alamos National Laboratory are using high performance computing to investigate how an asteroid’s kinetic energy is transferred to the atmosphere and ocean. These studies help scientists understand the consequences of asteroid impacts and assist NASA’s Office of Planetary Defense in deciding how to best track near-Earth objects (NEOs).

For their work on this project, Los Alamos’ Data Science at Scale Team won the Best Visualization and Data Analytics Showcase award at Supercomputing 2016 for their video “Visualization and Analysis of Threats from Asteroid Ocean Impacts.” This is the second consecutive year that Los Alamos’ Data Science at Scale Team has won this award.

US grants major exemptions to new sanctions on Iran’s Revolutionary Guards
They granted exemptions on oil purchases for a bit, too — which had the dual effect of allowing favoured nations time to find new sources and keeping the Iran sanctions in the news to magnify the effect. One hopes this is the same.
[IsraelTimes] The Trump administration is granting major exemptions to new US sanctions on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo outlines the exemptions in notices published in the Federal Register. A ban on travel to the US stemming from the designation of the Guard Corps as a foreign terrorist organization will not apply to officials of foreign governments or businesses that have dealings with the elite military unit or its subsidiaries.

The US designated the force as a terrorist organization earlier this month.

US law authorizes authorities to bar entry to the US by anyone found to have provided "material support" to a terrorist organization.

Pompeo says the waivers are in the interests of US national security, but they are likely to frustrate members of Congress who favor tough measures on Iran.

Badghis In Dark As Militants Cut Power Supply Lines
[ToloNews] Badghis officials claimed Wednesday that Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
cut Turkmenistan's imported power to the northwest province over the past 10 days as the group has targetted pylons and they refuse to allow technical teams to reconnect the wires.

"It is 10 days that the electricity has been cut by the armed oppositions in Juma Bazar area in Badghis and so for no coordination has bee made to allow our staff to repair the pylons," said Mohammad Tahir Azimi, the provincial head of electricity department.

The resident of Qala-e-Naw city, the capital of Badghis, said they are faced with many difficulties following the disconnection of electricity in the province.

"This act has been done by the Taliban," said Abdul Aziz Bek, head of the Badghis provincial council.

"Power outage has created many problems for the residents," said Mohammad Asif Amiri, a Badghis resident.

According to local officials, Taliban has demanded power for 20 villages under their control in Moqo district, which has been accepted but the process of connecting electricity to those areas need more time due to lack of facilities.

"Taliban want electricity for 21 villages and their demand has been accepted. But it is not possible in one day," Badghis Governor Abdul Ghafoor Malikzai said.

It is almost one year that the imported power has been connected to Badghis.

After Summit with Trump, Kim Jong Un’s Hair, Fingerprints Become State Secret

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
Some fascinating details have since been unveiled about Kim’s visit, highlighting the deep sense of paranoia within the communist regime.

North Korean guards spent five hours cleaning up all traces of Kim the leader might have left in the hotel, according to Chosun Ilbo, a South Korean newspaper.

Kim Jong-un left the Melia Hanoi Hotel in Vietnam at 9:30 a.m. on March 2. When a Chosun Ilbo news hound arrived at the hotel at around 2 p.m., access to the 21st and 22nd floor was still restricted with the North Korean security team guarding the stairways.

Kim stayed on the 22nd floor and had presided over meetings on the 21st floor. The security team was busy cleaning up the room and the hallway on these two levels.

Chosun Ilbo analyzed that given the timing, the security team was likely removing all "biomarkers" Kim might have left, such as strands of hair, fingerprints, or saliva.

a day prior.

Hundreds of children were rushed to hospitals in Peshawar complaining of abdominal pain and nausea allegedly after being vaccinated on Monday. Most were released, and doctors at Lady Reading Hospital ‐ which received 300 or so children ‐ said whatever was impacting the children appeared to be psychological.

Nevertheless, rumours circulated on social media about children falling ill and even dying after being vaccinated in Peshawar.

In Islamabad, polio workers and teams faced difficulties on the first day of the vaccination campaign, officials from the capital administration said.

Anti-polio panic
[DAWN] PANDEMONIUM gripped KP amidst a province-wide polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
eradication drive, threatening to stop this critical campaign in its tracks ‐ which was ultimately the agenda of those who instigated the mass hysteria.

Thousands of children were rushed to hospitals by their panic-stricken parents on Monday after malicious rumours of adverse reactions to the oral polio vaccine were disseminated over community and mosque loudspeakers, and via WhatsApp and other social media platforms, and picked up and reported, uncritically and without verification, by sections of the mainstream media.

The fake news was soon exposed as a total, wilful fabrication in footage that soon emerged, but disinformation had already been spread, precisely because it fed into misconceptions about the OPV that have persisted despite the best efforts of public officials to dispel religious and medical concerns.

And though public officials scrambled to calm the public, holding a presser within hours of the emergent crisis, by then, far too much damage had already been done.

In Mashokhel, where the rumour mill apparently originated, the local health unit was torched by rioters, and across the province, streets and hospitals were overwhelmed by a terrified public.

In the days ahead, there may be severe short- and long-term repercussions. Only yesterday, a police ASI assigned to a polio team was killed on his way to report for duty, and two new cases of the polio virus were detected in the province.

That a few malevolent individuals could hijack the vaccination drive, thus undermining the effort, dedication and courage of polio workers, is proof of how tentative the gains have been in building public confidence in vaccinations.

There are already doubts about the extent of coverage this polio drive is able to achieve in the face of what has transpired.

The government must now examine measures to anticipate the possibility of fake news proliferating via social media, which can spread like wildfire in the absence of basic digital literacy among the masses.

The mainstream media, however, should have known better. For years, it has reported on the lives lost ‐ children who succumbed to the virus, and workers to the attacks of obscurantist elements ‐ and the disease burden on the country.

There must be a wholesale adoption of strict coverage protocols recognising the sensitivity, fragility and security concerns of the anti-polio campaign. This is a dire setback, but it must not be allowed to derail the fight to eradicate this crippling, deadly disease once and for all.

Iran's Zarif warns U.S. of 'consequences' over oil sanctions, offer prisoner swap
[REUTERS] The United States must be prepared for consequences if it tries to stop Iran from selling oil and using the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif warned on Wednesday, while also offering to negotiate prisoner swaps with Washington.

The United States on Monday demanded buyers of Iranian oil stop purchases by May or face sanctions, ending six months of waivers which allowed Iran’s eight biggest buyers, most of them in Asia, to continue importing limited volumes.

"We believe that Iran will continue to sell its oil. We will continue to find buyers for our oil and we will continue to use the Strait of Hormuz as a safe transit passage for the sale of our oil," Zarif told an event at the Asia Society in New York.

Reinforcing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s stance, Zarif warned: "If the United States takes the crazy measure of trying to prevent us from doing that, then it should be prepared for the consequences." He did not give specifics.

Oil prices hit their highest level since November on Tuesday after Washington’s announcement.

When asked if the U.S. pressure campaign on Tehran was aimed at sparking further negotiations or regime change, Zarif said: "The B team wants regime change at the very least." He described the B Team as including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton.

New Revolutionary Guards head shows Iran readying for conflict
[RT] Tehran’s appointment of a hardline new commander of its Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) could signal that Iran is preparing for conflict with the US, former Pentagon analyst Michael Maloof has told RT.

Brigadier General Hossein Salami, 58, will replace Mohammad Ali Jafari as the elite unit’s commander-in-chief, Iranian state media reported Sunday. Salami served as Jafari’s deputy since 2009 and began his career in the Guards in 1981. He is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq War.

"Salami is more of a hardline person," Michael Maloof, former senior security policy analyst at the US Department of Defense, told RT. "He’s from the ’old guard,’ if you will."

Though Tehran has recently engaged in diplomacy to keep afloat the JCPOA nuclear deal after it was abandoned by the US, Salami’s appointment could represent a dramatic shift in Iranian policy, Maloof believes.

"It really suggests they’re going to double down on confronting the US," he said. "I think we’re about ready to enter a whole new phase of confrontation."

Getting Old is Not as Bad as it's Supposed to Be
[Dallas News, Wednesday, but linked to the Author's blog]
Before you buy into that stereotype that all older Americans are demented, helpless and lonely, check out these statistics.
Not everybody is Hillary Clinton?
Ninety-seven percent of Americans over 65 are NOT in nursing homes. Here’s an even more interesting statistic ‐ ninety-one percent of Americans aged 85 and older are not in nursing homes.
I am part of the 97% and hope to squeeze into the 91%.
Ninety percent of Americans aged 65 and older DO NOT have Alzheimer’s dementia. Ninety percent, folks. According to the American Medical Association, dementia rates continue to fall significantly. Interestingly, however, Americans’ anxiety about memory loss is increasing.
I wonder if the media has something to do with that misconception?
Or possibly connected to the fact that more Americans have reached the age where dementia is a real possibility, even if a smaller percent actually experience it.
Over fifty percent of Americans aged 85 and older can go about their everyday activities without any help. Dressing, cooking, paying bills ‐ they are doing that just fine, thank you.

If most older Americans are not demented or helpless, surely they are at least suffering from loneliness and depression, right? Nope. Health-service company Cigna did a survey and found that the loneliest group is Generation Z, defined as ages 18 ‐ 22. The next largest group is composed of people aged 45-49; a whopping forty-three percent report being lonely. In contrast, only twenty-five percent of Americans over 70 say they are lonely.
If you've been in a stable relationship for a number of years, that's a big help.
How about that secret conviction held by most that older people are an economic burden to the country and, by extension, to every one of us? Not true. People over 50 make up thirty-five percent of the population yet contribute forty-three percent of the total US GDP. That’s a $7.4 trillion contribution by that aged and decrepit over-50 group.
Workers 50-67 are generally in their peak earning years, just before they retire. The concern centers on the years after retirement, when they’re spending down their retirement savings.
If you find any of that surprising, then you might be suffering from ageism, which is the discrimination and stereotyping of people by age.
Some interesting examples of late-term bloomers at link.

According to whom?

I'm turning 70 shortly and think that getting old really sucks in some ways. No dementia but I have way more aches and pains than ever and don't have the energy I need to do half the things I want.

Not depressed and lonely just occasionally annoyed. Of course then there are the Democrats trying to ruin everything which is the worst of it.

#5  On Wednesday evening at 6pm a 101 year old, soon to be 102, walks into Bible study meeting when he is not running in a national track meet for the 100-105 age group.

He just turned over his oil investment portfolio to his decendents which he created himself and managed to make enough to be sitting on $4,000,000.00.

As a WW2 trainer of pilots, yet wanting to actually fly in combat but told they needed him to be a trainer instead, they finnally gave him the honor of being one of the pilots to fly a strata-fortress over Moscow and nuke it for many years until the went with a Ballistic delivery systems, sadly.

He encounters the same symptoms as everyone else but he says he works through them. He is very shy and a very good man but I would hate to be his enemy. At 101 he came charging out of the Wednesday night Bible study like he had an important appt and I accidently got into his path and it felt like I was about to get hit by a locomotive as I quickly got out of his flight path. He just sold his Camaro and that is a shame. I will never get to race him.

A few weeks ago I saw him approach a three flight set of stairs, look at them and determindly procede to climb them. The elevator he could have taken was near the stairs but that was not on his list of options at this geographical encounter. The man could still survive on a remote island by himself. Seriously.

If you are fortunate enough to witness this 101 year old go by a time or two, you realize he will not be stopped.

#8  ninety-one percent of Americans aged 85 and older are not in nursing homes.

This is a bit misleading. "Nursing Homes" (AKA skilled nursing facilities) are at the most extreme end of the eldercare spectrum. Many more people are in assisted living facilities, and even more are in independent living (55+) communities with nurses etc. on staff.

Still the headline is correct. My grandfather died at 78. My parents survived into their 90's. My mother was in independent living at age 95.

It is great to see people in their 70's and 80's playing golf and swimming. A generation earlier they would have been dead.

Federal prosecutors say the German-Algerian woman, identified as Sarah O. for privacy reasons, traveled to Syria as a teenager in 2013, joined IS and married a fellow German IS recruit.

Both allegedly received firearms training and conducted "guard and police duties" in IS-controlled areas. They also forced a Yazidi girl and two Yazidi women to work in their household and convert to Islam.

O.’s parents-in-law, 51-year-old Ahmed S. and 48-year-old Perihan S., allegedly helped their sons supply IS with equipment such as firearms magazines and scopes. They are indicted on suspicion of aiding IS.

Germany inaugurates new Peshmerga Hospital in Erbil
Credit where due:
[Rudaw] A year and a half after construction began, Germany has officially handed over the new Peshmerga Hospital in Erbil to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in a ceremony attended by German and Kurdish officials.

"It is the most important project for Peshmerga soldiers," Sarbast Lazgin, deputy minister of Peshmerga, told assembled guests and journalists.

"On behalf of the KRG, Peshmerga Ministry, and Peshmerga soldiers, we are expressing gratitude to the nation and government of Germany for their continued support and assistance to the Peshmerga in the fight against the terrorist ISIS organization in the past four years," he added, using the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

Lazgin attributed changes in the "balance of power" during the fight against ISIS to the German military and its logistical support for the Peshmerga.

Colonel M. Schneider, Commander of German Forces in Iraq, told the ceremony that German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen will "follow developments at the Peshmerga Hospital and Kurdistan as a whole because both have always been of a special importance for her."

Von der Leyen has been instrumental to Berlin’s support for Peshmerga during and after the ISIS conflict. She visited the site on her fifth visit to the Kurdistan Region last year.

"We all know that the Peshmerga on our behalf and that of the world, fought very well against ISIS," said von der Leyen at the time.

Up to 150 German personnel are based at the international anti-ISIS Combined Joint Operations Command Center in Erbil, where they have worked with Iraqi and Kurdish commanders, in addition to Peshmerga units through the Kurdistan Training Coordination Center (KTTC).

The Region’s first dedicated Peshmerga military hospital took 14 months to build and was completed at the beginning of February. The facility will be used to treat members of the Kurdistan Region armed forces maimed in the ISIS war.

Lazgin called on other members of the US-led anti-ISIS coalition to "provide technical and financial support to finish the remaining unfinished parts of the Peshmerga Hospital so we can provide the best possible service to the maimed Peshmerga of the fight against ISIS."

The $4.8 million facility has 20 beds and is build across a 1,000 square-meter plot of land. The finishing touches ought to be complete by the end of the year.

"We are trying to gradually enhance the hospital’s capacity. It is a 20 bed hospital. It has two surgery halls," Dr. Rebin Zikhani, deputy manager of health affairs at the ministry, had earlier told Rudaw.

Some 772 Peshmerga maimed in the ISIS conflict have received treatment abroad to date.

More than 10,000 Peshmerga were maimed during the four-year war with ISIS and more than 1,800 killed.

Iran oil exports cut by 1.7mn bpd since May 2018: IEA
[Rudaw] Iran’s oil exports have been cut by 1.7 million barrels per day (mb/d) since May 2018 when the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). In just the last month, Iran exported 300,000 fewer barrels per day (bpd) compared to March, falling to around 1.1 mb/d.

"Further tightening of sanctions on Iran will have an impact on its export capacity," the IEA, a watchdog for oil consuming countries, said in a statement Tuesday.

"Iranian shipments of crude and condensates are running around 1.1 million barrels a day (mb/d) in April, 300 000 barrels a day lower than March, and 1.7 mb/d lower than May 2018," it added.

Washington imposed sanctions on Iran’s oil sector ‐ the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s main source of revenue ‐ in November 2018 after withdrawing from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

The US initially granted seven major importers of Iranian crude a waiver period in which to wean off Iranian oil and find alternatives. On Monday, however, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced no further waivers would be authorized after May.

Oil prices jumped by around three percent in response to the news.

"Today I am announcing that we will no longer grant any exemptions. We are going to zero. Going to zero across the board," Pompeo told news hounds in Washington.

The Secretary of State estimated US sanctions have already denied Iran more than $10 billion.

Pompeo sought to reassure markets that the shortfall created by the loss of Iranian exports would be plugged and prices would remain stable. The loss of Iranian crude on the oil market is expected to be met by US oil supplies, which the IEA expects to grow by 1.6 mb/d this year.

The large global spare production capacity of 3.3 mb/d created by recent OPEC+ supply cuts is also expected to allow Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirate (UAE) to absorb Iran’s market.

The suspension of waivers followed a US decision to list Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its extraterritorial Quds Force as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) alongside al-Qaeda, Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) and others.

The move is significant as, unlike these non-state terror groups, the IRGC is effectively a state entity. The elite guard, which answers only to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is also tightly bound up in Iran’s economy, including construction, oil and gas, and even missile technology.

The IRGC terror designation could have dire consequences for Iraq, whose armed forces have close ties with the Iranian Guards. Iraq also depends on Iranian energy exports to power homes and businesses, particularly in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, where power blackouts last summer led to deadly rioting.

Thousand flee clash with Maoist militants in Cotabato
[Mindanao Examiner] Clashes broke out between Philippine troops and Maoist militants on the border between two towns in North Cotabato Tuesday morning, prompting thousands of civilians to flee. The battle with New People’s Army insurgents between Antipas and Magpet towns left two soldiers and a civilian slightly injured.

Arakan police chief Jose Marie Molina said the rescue vehicle that carried the injured soldiers were also ambushed by communist rebels in Sitio Anuling at about 9:30am that sparked another firefight.

Molina added that the militants have suffered many casualties as evidenced by blood stains on their escape routes. He said government agents are now on the ground and have begun providing emergency relief assistance to affected families.

Deutsche Bank hands over Donald Trump loan documents: reports
[DW] The German lender has started providing files to New York authorities related to funding of Trump projects. Investigators are interested in Deutsche Bank as it is one of the few banks to lend to the Trump Organization.

Deutsche Bank has begun to provide financial documents to New York state authorities related to loans for President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and his business.

In March, New York Attorney General Letitia James subpoenaed the German lender for records on loans it provided to the Trump Organization.

The bank is now handing over emails and loan documents related to the financing of Trump hotels in Washington, DC, Miami, reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
and a failed attempt
Curses! Foiled again!
to buy the Buffalo Bills football team in 2014, CNN and AFP reported on Wednesday.

James requested the documents from Deutsche Bank after Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen testified to Congress that Trump inflated his assets to secure loans.

TRUMP'S BIG LENDER
Deutsche Bank has been one of the few major banks to lend to Trump and his family-owned organization, following several defaults and bankruptcies by the real-estate mogul in the 1990s. The German bank stopped lending to Trump after he entered office as US president in 2017.

A 2018 financial disclosure form showed that Trump had at least $130 million (€115 million) in outstanding liabilities to Deutsche Bank's American unit. The bank has loaned Trump and his organization some $2 billion over the years.

MULTIPLE PROBES
The US House's Intelligence and Financial Services committees earlier this month issued subpoenas to Deutsche Bank and other banks seeking information about Trump's business dealings and possible Russian money laundering.

The subpoenas marked a renewed push by Democratic leaders to collect information on the president's finances and that of the Trump Organization since they gained control of the House last fall.

The House Intelligence and Financial Services committees' investigations are a part of a larger Democratic effort to dig into Trump's finances.

The powerful Boodle Central is also attempting to get access to Trump's personal and business tax returns. Trump did not release his tax documents during the 2016 campaign, as is standard for presidential candidates.

On Tuesday, the US Treasury let a deadline set by the Boodle Central to pass, signaling that the administration intends to reject the request. Trump on Wednesday said he would fight all congressional subpoenas, setting the stage for a drawn-out legal battle.

US targets two men, three firms for helping Hezbollah avoid sanctions, revokes Lebanese visas
[AlAhram] The U.S. Treasury, moving to boost pressure on Hezbollah, imposed sanctions on Wednesday against two people and three firms that Washington accuses of being involved in schemes to help the armed Shi'ite group backed by Iran evade American sanctions.

The Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said it was targeting Belgium-based Wael Bazzi because he acted on behalf of his father Mohammad Bazzi, a Hezbollah financier.

OFAC also took action against two Belgian companies and a British-based firm controlled by Bazzi.
According to The Times of Israel, the companies are Belgium-based Voltra Transcor Energy and OFFISCOOP NV, and United Kingdom-based BSQRD Limited.
In addition, the U.S. Treasury designated Leb-based Hassan Tabaja, who it said had acted on behalf of his brother Adham Tabajha, also a Hezbollah financier. The U.S. action freezes their assets and property and prevents U.S. citizens and businesses from dealing with them.

The two men and three businesses were targeted for sanctions under U.S. regulations aimed at suspected Lions of Islam or those who support them, the Treasury said in a statement. Hezbollah is considered a foreign terrorist organization by the United States.

"Treasury is relentlessly pursuing Hezbollah's financial controllers by dismantling two of Hezbollah's most important financial networks," Treasury Undersecretary Sigal Mandelker said in a statement.

"By targeting Hassan Tabaja and Wael Bazzi and their European-based companies, this administration is continuing to disrupt all avenues of financial support relied upon by Hezbollah," he said.

The U.S. State Department earlier this week offered a reward of up to $10 million for information that could help disrupt Hezbollah's financing.

The move to boost pressure on the group comes at a time of growing U.S. concern about its role in the Lebanese government. Hezbollah's regional clout has expanded as it has sent fighters to Middle East conflicts, including the war in Syria, where it supported Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

Washington Revokes Visas for Lebanese Figures over Iran, Syria Ties

[AnNahar] The United States Embassy in Leb has revoked the visas of several Lebanese figures with reported good relations with Iran and the Syrian government, the Saudi Asharq al-Awsat said on Wednesday.

The daily said the measure has affected a Lebanese lawyer who was granted power of procuration by a Syrian businessman suspected of being linked to the Syrian regime, and another Lebanese businessmen preparing to go to Syria to discuss the establishment of companies there.

Political sources said the majority of the visas were annulled in a simple phone call the figures received from the US embassy in Beirut.

Three held for gang rape, murder of minor girl
[DAWN] NAROWAL: Three suspects were tossed in the slammer
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
on Monday for gang-raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl.

A labourer of Kot Abdul Malik in Sheikhupura district and his family had gone to Shakargarh to attend a wedding on Sunday. After the wedding, his daughter ’Z’, 11, was going to her maternal uncle’s house in Miadian village with her cousins on the uncle’s cycle of violence.

On the way, the uncle met his neighbour near Narowal city who offered to drop one of the children home. The uncle made ’Z’ travel with the neighbour.

When the uncle reached home, he asked the family about Z, who told him she had not reached yet. He asked his neighbour about it, who told him he had dropped Z outside the house. The family informed Rayya Khas police about the incident and also searched for the minor, but in vain.

On Monday morning, police arrested the neighbour, S, and interrogated him about the girl. He told police that he, along with two of his friends, had raped Z and then strangled her to death. On the indication of the suspect, Z’s body was recovered from wheat fields.

According to police sources, Z had been raped after tying her hands and a number of scars were found on her body. Rayya Khas police took the body into custody and shifted it to the DHQ hospital for post-mortem.

After the post-mortem, police completed legal formalities and handed over Z’s body to her relatives. Her family then left for Kot Abdul Malik where she would be laid to rest.

Z’s father said: "The Rayya Khas police in connivance with the murderers has started the paperwork but haven't done much else under Section 365-B of the PPC and arrested them, while my minor daughter was first kidnapped and then gang-raped.

Police have not included the relevant sections in the first information report. Punjab

Sri Lanka
Day 5: Sri Lanka Detains 18 New Suspects as Hunt Continues, Bombers Identified
Day 4 events can be seen here.
[AnNahar] Sri Lankan security forces detained 18 new suspects in the Easter bombings that killed more than 350 people, as the government admitted Wednesday that "major" intelligence lapses had led to a failure to prevent the attacks.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's claim of responsibility for Sunday's strikes on three hotels and three churches increased pressure over ignored warnings of the bombings, and the government was expected to announce sackings in the security forces and police leadership.

The 18 new arrests were made in night-time raids using emergency powers, said police front man Ruwan Gunasekera.

Fifty-eight people are now in jug and more arrests are expected in coming days, deputy defence minister Ruwan Wijewardene told a presser.

The government has said more attacks are possible and in a sign of the heightened tensions, authorities carried out at least two controlled kabooms of a suspect package and vehicle on Wednesday.

Wijewardene also gave new details on the bombers. One had studied in Britannia and then did post-graduate studies in Australia before returning to Sri Lanka. Others were also believed to have travelled abroad, he told a presser.

"Most of them are well-educated and come from middle, upper-middle class families, so they are financially quite independent and their families are quite stable financially, that is a worrying factor in this," the minister said.

- IS CLAIM -
Amid the frantic hunt for suspects, Islamic State grabbed credit for the strikes and released photos and video of the men it said were involved in the attacks. Seven of the eight men in the images had their faces covered. Islamic State group called the blasts "blessed attacks" on the "infidel holiday".

The authenticity of the images could not be independently verified but experts said the attacks bear many hallmarks of a coordinated Islamic State operation.

The government has blamed a local Islamist group, National Thowheeth Jama'ath (NTJ), and said they were investigating whether the bombers had foreign help.

The deputy defence minister said it was believed the jacket wallahs came from an NTJ "splinter group" whose leader had killed himself.

In the Islamic State video, a man believed to be the leader of the NTJ, Zahran Hashim,
...also known as Mohammed Zahran and Zahran Hashmi, he became known three years ago for his fiery YouTube speeches...
directs a group in a pledge of allegiance to IS chief His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
Sri Lankan police sources have told AFP that two Moslem brothers, sons of a wealthy Colombo spice trader, blew themselves up at the Shangri-La and the Cinnamon Grand hotels.

Their father is now one of the 58 in jug.

The Kingsbury hotel in the capital was the last one hit. A fourth planned attack on a hotel failed, authorities said. The would-be attacker was followed back to a Colombo lodge, where he went kaboom!, killing two people.

The funerals of dozens more victims were held Wednesday but the government became embroiled in recriminations over warnings about the attacks up to two weeks before they were carried out.

- LEADERSHIP CULL -
President Maithripala Sirisena, who is also defence and law and order minister, has pledged "major changes" to the security forces and police leadership.

Sri Lanka's police chief issued a warning on April 11 that NTJ suicide kabooms were possible and alerts had been given by a foreign intelligence agency. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has acknowledged the information was not passed to his office or other top ministers.

"It was a major lapse in the sharing of information," the deputy defence minister said. "The government has to take responsibility."

CNN reported that Indian intelligence services had passed on "unusually specific" information in the weeks before the attacks, some of it from an IS suspect in their custody.

The US ambassador to Sri Lanka has denied that her government had prior knowledge of the planned attacks.

A US FBI team is now in Sri Lanka, Wijewardene said, and Britannia, Australia and the United Arab Emirates have all offered intelligence help.

Sri Lankan Moslem leaders said they had many several complaints to police about Hashim's activities. His whereabouts after the bombings were unknown however.

- IDENTIFYING THE DEAD -
Work was continuing to identify foreign victims in the blasts.

A Danish billionaire lost three of his children in the attacks, a front man for his company said.

Eight Britons, 10 Indians, four Americans and nationals from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
, Australia, Japan and Portugal were also reported killed.

The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
said at least 45 children, Sri Lankans and foreigners, were among the dead.

Sri Lanka suicide bomber who studied in UK named as Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed

[NEWS.SKY] Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohammed is believed to have studied in the southeast of England at some point between 2006 and 2007.

One of the nine jacket wallahs was a woman, who killed herself as police raided her home, and another - who targeted the Shangri-La hotel - has been identified as factory owner Insan Seelavan.

The woman, thought to be the wife of one of the bombers, blew herself up at the home of her father-in-law, who has been taken into custody.

Indian intelligence warned of threat hours before Sri Lanka suicide attacks

[DAWN] Sri Lankan intelligence officials were tipped off about an imminent attack by Islamist bully boyz hours before a series of suicide kabooms killed more than 300 people on Easter Sunday, three sources with direct knowledge of the matter said.

Indian intelligence officers contacted their Sri Lankan counterparts two hours before the first attack to warn of a specific threat on churches, one Sri Lankan defence source and an Indian government source said.

Another Sri Lankan defence source said a warning came "hours before" the first strike.

One of the Sri Lankan sources said a warning was also sent by the Indians on Saturday night. The Indian government source said similar messages had been given to Sri Lankan intelligence agents on April 4 and April 20.

'15 dead' in huge blast in northwest Syria
[Rudaw] JISR AL-SHUGHUR, Syria - A powerful kaboom Wednesday killed 15 people including more than a dozen civilians in jihadist-held northwest Syria, a war monitor said, as rescuers searched for people trapped under the rubble.

An AFP news hound at the scene saw a building of at least four storeys that had collapsed in the town of Jisr al-Shughur in Idlib, a region controlled by Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate. One opposite had partially caved in while surrounding buildings appeared on the verge of collapse.

Thirteen civilians were among those killed in the blast, the cause of which was not immediately clear, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based monitoring group.

"The kaboom hit next to the market," killing 15 people including the daughter of a Turkestani fighter, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said. He earlier said the kaboom could have been the result of a boom-mobile or a vehicle carrying explosives that detonated.

The Idlib region is under the administrative control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham

#8  You don't kill the leadership and then abandon a geopolitically significant country to the Moslem Brotherhood.

Which is exactly what Obama, Clinton, and McCain attempted. Succeeded in Egypt, albeit temporarily.

-Puts on foil hat-
Well, I don't think Egypt was abandoned To MoBro. I think in a bid to gain power/influence and put pressure on Israel, agents of the Obama doctrine worked with the MoBro to knock Mubarak out of power. Some NGOs were so obvious about it, the military had them arrested and expelled. After Morsi was installed, the movement could spread east to Syria/Jordan and west through Libya/Algeria to create a vast bloc in a key geopolitical location.

Efforts to expand into Syria stalled with what I think was an unexpected defense of Assad both locally and foreign, Russia specifically. Westward they went with the tomahawk chop on Daffy but didn't seem to really get much past the east Libyan border and stalled. Meanwhile, they man in Cairo Morsi starts acting the MoBro fool and threatens with with everyone from Israel to Ethiopia. The Egyptian army, worried whether this is actually fight words gets sick of his shit, removes Morsi, and installs Sisi. Meanwhile, under McCain's figurehead locals receive money, arms, training, and form ISIS.

Some Jordanian pilots get burned alive, and Hussein loses his shit and vows a whomping, then suddenly loses interest - I think Team Obama threatened Jordan with some sort of reprisals, as T.O. was still playing the overthrow Assad card. There was no real coalition willing to tackle both Syria and Russia (perhaps Iranian troops are showing up in noticeable numbers by now) so we have the great chemical weapons tragedy. UK and France were totes on board and the US was right there with McCain just banging that drum until it was so ludicrous on its head that maybe a vote to go to war with Russia needs to happen.

I think what happened there was a Bay of Pigs, where T.O. had armed and trained troops for a big push to topple Assad and install a MoBro government, the chemical weapons was a cover for NATO air cover and missile strikes and Russia said Nah Bro, first we didn't do that, and second come get some and find out. So some of T.O.s troops attacked without air cover and the others joined expedition ISIS.

Jordan would be hard pressed to not at least go along with the new Jew-Hate Bloc and Economic Transit Point. Suddenly Israel is hard pressed from all sides, T.O. agents successfully tilt the elections away from Bibi and boom, Israel under Obama's thumb with a Peace in our Time government.

#11  I just think that forcing Israel to accept a Paleo State is one of those Golden Apples which Obama would have loved to pluck and place on the mantel, and I cannot think of any better ploy than this move.

I point to three different major events which derailed the ploy: The installation of Morsi, the Last Stand at Kobani, and John Kerry's "The only way to avoid war is if Assad gets rid of all of his chemical weapons" which I think he got a phone call five minutes later stating "Sold! moving right now."

To be fair, I cannot quite square the subsequent uranium laundering scheme to Iran via Russia other than trying to negotiate the price from a position of strength; that is, get a better price. Maybe the mutual interest of putting pressure on Israel. Maybe T.O.'s Israel election meddling, well documented, "A vote for Bibi is a vote for Iran to obtain nukes."

I don't think the gambit would have necessarily worked like T.O. would have liked, as the MoBro didn't get politically strong west of Egypt, and once a future ISIS couldn't keep their islam in their pants with the Rape of the Yzidis, which was not really being covered until that gal got in front of the Iraqi Parliament and the flagrant executions of prisoners and the destruction of Palmyra.

What ever control T.O. thought they had evaporated with Sisi and those events; basically "You don't tell us what to do!"

Also maybe in there, is the missing footage of the final moments of Daffy. If half as bad as talking about or imagined, there would be no 'moral authority' to establish said victors into government.

Well, my shave and a hair cut, for what it is worth.

UN reports reduction in civilian casualties in Afghanistan in first quarter of 2019
[KhaamaPress] The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has reported a 23 percent reduction in civilian casualties during the first quarter of 2019, citing a reduction in suicide kabooms and harsh winter conditions as the likely causes of reduced civilian casualties.

According to a report released by UNAMA, the mission documented 1,773 civilian casualties (581 deaths and 1,192 injured), including 582 child casualties (150 deaths and 432 injured) from 1st January to 31st of March.

The report further added "UNAMA is very concerned by the continued targeting of civilians and increase in civilian casualties from the use of non-suicide IEDs by Anti-Government Elements, as well as significant increases in civilian casualties from aerial and search operations, which drove an overall increase in civilian casualties by Pro-Government Forces. Civilian deaths attributed to Pro-Government Forces surpassed those attributed to Anti-Government Elements during the first quarter of 2019."

"Ground engagements were the leading cause of civilian casualties, causing approximately one third of the total. A single mortar attack incident by ISIS/Islamic State

Khorasan Province (ISKP) on 7 March 2019 in Kabul caused approximately one-fifth of all civilian casualties from ground engagements (see below)," the report added.

According to UNAMA, the use of IEDs was the second leading cause of civilian casualties. Contrary to 2017 and 2018 trends, the majority of IED civilian casualties were caused by nonsuicide IEDs rather than suicide IEDs.

UANAMA also added that aerial operations were the leading cause of civilian deaths and the third leading cause of civilian casualties, followed by assassinations and explosive remnants of war. Civilians living in Kabul, Helmand

The attributed 963 civilian casualties (227 deaths and 736 injured) to anti-government armed elements, 608 civilian casualties (305 deaths and 303 injured) to pro-government forces, 228 civilian casualties (145 deaths and 83 injured) to pro-government forces Arclight airstrikes, and 219 civilian casualties (140 deaths and 79 injured) to airstrikes conducted by foreign forces.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
April 24, 2019: Land for what?
[Jpost] The news article "PLO to discuss revoking recognition of Israel" (April 23) points out one of the key problems of the "peace process."

The crux of the dispute between the Arabs and Israel is Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), to which both sides feel they have a strong historical and legal claim. While Israel has repeatedly demonstrated its willingness to compromise and come to a fair and equitable agreement, the Arabs are adamant that they will not compromise on a single inch of "their" territory.

They (the Arabs and much of the world) demand that Israel retreat fully to the narrow area within the 1948 ceasefire lines and admit thousands of people ‐ several generations of "refugees" and their descendants ‐ into the small area that would be left to Israel. In return, the Arabs claim they are prepared to recognize Israel and forswear violence.

Is this a good deal for Israel? Whatever precious land Israel relinquishes is gone forever, but with the stroke of a pen ‐ for any pretext or claimed grievance whatsoever‐ the other side can "revoke" its recognition of Israel and resume violence ‐ be it stabbings, firebombs, rocks on motorists, incendiary devices, rockets, storming the border, etc., and Israel will be in a critically weakened state and worse strategic position to defend itself.

As reflected in the results of the recent election, Israelis, including those on the Left, increasingly grasp the inherit imbalance and folly of the land-for-promises concept.

Abassi Madani died at the age of 88 "in a Doha hospital after a long illness", said Ali Belhadj, adding that family members had informed him of the death.

Madani, who had lived in Qatar since 2003, founded the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) with Belhadj in 1989.

He called for armed struggle in 1992 after Algeria's military scrapped the country's first multi-party legislative elections.

The FIS had been on track to win an absolute majority in the polls and the ensuing violence plunged the country into a decade of civil war that left 200,000 dead, according to official figures.

Madani "wanted to be buried in Algeria, but I don't know if it will be possible", Belhadj added.

The former head of FIS's armed wing Madani Mezrag confirmed Madani's death, telling AFP he too had been informed by family members.

Egypt court issues death sentences on two defrocked monks for killing Coptic bishop
[AlAhram] Damanhour Criminal Court issued Wednesday death sentences on two defrocked monks on charges of killing the head of their desert monastery last summer.

The court issued a preliminary death sentence 23 February and referred the sentences handed down on the two monks, Isaiah El-Maqary and Faltaous El-Makary, to the country’s grand mufti for his non-binding opinion, as required by Egyptian law.

Wednesday's court decision is not final and can still be appealed within 60 days.

The murder of Bishop Epiphanius sparked outrage in Coptic circles and led to serious measures by the Coptic Orthodox Church to contain the situation.

On 29 July, the 64-year-old bishop was found dead under suspicious circumstances. He had led Abu Maqar Monastery in Wadi El-Natroun, northwest of Cairo.

The prosecution charged the two men with premeditated murder.

According to the prosecution, the two men ambushed the bishop on his way from his residence to the monastery chapel, where Isaiah, now referred to by his non-monastic name, Wael Saad Tawadros, hit him on the head with a steel bar.

Following the murder, the church imposed new measures to regulate monastic life.

They include a freeze on accepting new monks, a ban on monks’ use of social media, a ban on building non-sanctioned places of worship, and a ban on monks leaving monasteries without official permission.

Four Abu Sayaaf militants killed in Basilan
[BenarNews] The Philippine army said it killed four Abu Sayyaf militants in a preemptive strike on Wednesday amid suspicions they could launch attacks similar to those that hit Sri Lanka on Easter.

The four Abu Sayyaf militants were killed during an operation on Basilan. The strike targeted followers of Abu Sayyaf commander Furuji Indama, whose group worked last year with the Islamic State in plotting and carrying out a car-bomb attack that killed 11 people on Basilan.

“The focused military operation aimed at hitting Indama’s group in the hinterlands of Gipitan,” in the remote Ungkaya Pukan township of Basilan, said military spokesman Gerry Besana in nearby Zamboanga.

Wednesday’s strike, military officials said, was aimed at preventing the group from carrying out a “sympathy attack” after coordinated suicide bombings claimed by IS killed nearly 360 people in three Sri Lankan cities.

On Monday, police said they foiled a bomb attack after they recovered two improvised bombs left outside a Catholic chapel in Lambayong, a town in Sultan Kuradat province. Police chief Herman Luna said the bombs were fashioned from an 81-mm mortars and were discovered by church workers who alerted the police bomb squad. .

Luna blamed the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, a group that has pledged allegiance to IS, as being behind the attempted bomb plot. He said, "It could have been a powerful explosion had the IED exploded."

Border group leader injured in New Mexico jail altercation
If he was a convicted felon with a firearm, I'm good with that. He also seems to be a Dem/Deep State Trophy? No protective custody? Too scared of the precedent or his "militia" of, like, 8 people?
[10 News] Authorities say the leader of a civilian group that has detained asylum-seeking migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border was injured while he was jailed in New Mexico, after being arrested on federal weapons charges.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday in a statement that 69-year-old Larry Hopkins was transferred Tuesday out of the county jail after suffering non-life threatening injuries Monday night.

The statement did not provide specifics on the "alleged battery" in which Hopkins was injured in Las Cruces, but Hopkins' lawyer, Kelly O'Connell, told the Albuquerque Journal that his client was hospitalized for rib injuries following an altercation.

The FBI arrested Hopkins on a federal complaint accusing him of being a felon in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

O'Connell has said Hopkins will plead not guilty.

N. Korea replaces top official involved in negotiations with US
[KoreaHerald] A senior North Korean official, who served as Pyongyang’s chief interlocutor in talks with the United States, has been replaced as head of a key espionage agency handling inter-Korean affairs, a lawmaker said Wednesday.

Kim Yong-chol, chief of the United Front Department, was recently replaced by Jang Kum-chol, Rep. Lee Hye-hoon of the Bareunmirae Party, who leads the National Assembly’s Intelligence Committee, said, citing a source from Seoul’s spy agency.

Jang, who is barely known to the outside world, is reportedly in his late 50s and has a career of working for civilian exchanges between the two Koreas.

Kim was the North’s top negotiator in denuclearization talks with the United States. His US counterpart was Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. It was unclear if his replacement as chief of the espionage agency affected his status as chief negotiator in talks with the US

Nuclear negotiations between the two countries have been stalled after February’s summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump ended without an agreement due to differences over Pyongyang’s denuclearization steps and Washington’s sanctions relief.

Kim Yong-chol’s absence in the leader’s entourage that arrived in Russia’s Far East city of Vladivostok later in the day for a summit with President Vladimir Putin raised speculation over his possible replacement from the post.

It is the first time that he has not accompanied the leader on an overseas trip.

Despite the replacement, observers say that Kim Yong-chol is expected to maintain his post as a vice chairman of the central committee of the North’s ruling party.

Recenlty, he and other nuclear negotiators, including First Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, also became members of the State Affairs Commission to which Kim Jong-un was re-elected as chairman.

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
says the US is sending armed soldiers to the southern border after Mexican soldiers "pulled guns" on US troops.

Trump appears to be referring to an April 13 incident in which Mexican troops reportedly questioned and pointed their weapons at two US troops conducting surveillance on the border.

"Mexico’s Soldiers recently pulled guns on our National Guard Soldiers, probably as a diversionary tactic for drug smugglers on the Border. Better not happen again! We are now sending ARMED SOLDIERS to the Border. Mexico is not doing nearly enough in apprehending & returning!" Trump says on Twitter.

#1  Why would anyone, from anywhere, pull guns on US soldiers, and think that was going to work out well? They should all go home, and then go to church, and then burn a candle and give thanks for being alive. Or, do it again, and die maybe.

#6  Who had them on the border without ammo?

Someone forget their previous act of having the guards at the Beirut Marine Barracks without ammo for fear of an incident?

#7  Good question, P2k. And don't forget Brian Terry. Besides, machine guns would be cheaper than a wall.
