School shooting survivor tired of ‘old ass parents’ failing on gun control
[NYPOST] “When your old-ass parent is like, ‘I don’t know how to send an iMessage,’ and you’re just like, ‘Give me the fucking phone and let me handle it.’ Sadly, that’s what we have to do with our government. Our parents don’t know how to use a f–king democracy, so we have to.”
As everyone knows, you're born wise, and as you age you get progressively dumber, eventually becoming a parent. Policy-making should be entrusted to the acne and braces set and the older generation should stick to cleaning the rooms of their offspring.

#5  History repeating? Missing are the uniforms. The Hitler-Jugend (HJ) and Bund deutscher Arbeiterjugend (League of German Worker Youth) were indoctrinated to left's National Socialist's propaganda. Later, another odious group within the HJ appeared, the HJ-Streifendienst (Junior Gestapo). These kids often turned in family members for infractions of law and ideology. The young were used by the regime. The Nazis were big on gun control and gun confiscation for certain groups such as Jewish people and others considered enemies of the state. There have been reports on the internet about the HJ members aiding in gun control/confiscation--whether or not true I don't know--it is conceivable. The NSs were also big on national registration of firearms. Gun Control in NS Germany. And from the History Place. You know, "It's for the children."

State Department Seemingly Buys $15,000 iPhone Cracking Tech GrayKey
Grayshift, a company that offers to unlock modern iPhones for as little as $50 each, has caused a buzz across law enforcement agencies, with local police already putting down cash for the much sought-after tech. Now, it appears a section of the US State Department has also purchased the iPhone cracking tool, judging by procurement records reviewed by Motherboard.

The news comes as The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reports that the Justice Department and FBI have renewed their efforts to force tech companies to implement encryption backdoors into consumer products, meaning authorities could more reliably gain access to devices.

Grayshift’s iPhone product, dubbed GrayKey, can unlock devices running versions of Apple’s latest mobile operating system iOS 11, according to marketing material obtained by Forbes . An online version of GrayKey which allows 300 unlocks costs $15,000 (which boils down to $50 per device), and an offline capability with unlimited uses is $30,000. According to a recent post from cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes, which obtained leaked details on GrayKey, the product itself is a small, four inch by four inch box, and two iPhones can be connected at once via lightning cables. Malwarebytes adds that the time it takes to unlock a device varies depending on the strength of the user’s passcode: it may be hours or days. Notably, Grayshift includes an ex-Apple engineer on its staff.

Term is more restrictive than it needs to be. How about "it can influence its execution only by passing new laws, or by amending / repealing old laws" etc. Congress has largely abdicated its primary duty of legislation for the greater duties of fund raising and self-re-election.

Who Runs March for Our Lives?
[SultanKnish] Follow the money.

It’s a strange political fact, but nearly every major anti-gun group has been a front group. The NRA is maligned 24/7 and yet it’s completely obvious whom it represents. Despite the efforts to tie it to everyone from firearms manufacturers to the Russians (if you can’t tie any random Republican thing to the Russians these days, you won’t be working at the Washington Post or CNN for very long), it represents its five million members. Anti-gun groups tend to represent shadowy networks.

Take Everytown, the noisiest and most dishonest anti-gun group on the scene. The one consistent thing about anti-gun groups is that that they are usually the opposite of what their name says they are.

Everytown for Gun Safety was formed out of two other groups: Moms Demand Action and Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Both are actually front groups for Michael Bloomberg, the lefty billionaire and former boss of the Big Apple, who used New York City resources to host at least one of its websites.

So Everytown is really New York City.

March for Our Lives is on every cable channel, but who runs it? The photogenic teen fronts are out front. But it’s obvious to everyone that a bunch of teens don’t have the resources and skills to coordinate a nationwide movement. Instead it’s the experienced activists who are actually running things.

The March for Our Lives Fund is incorporated as a 501(c)(4). Donations to 501(c)(4) groups are not tax- deductible. And they don’t have to disclose donors. That’s why they’re a great dark money conduit.

But the March for Our Lives website suggests that donors who want to make a tax-deductible donation should write a check to the "March For Our Lives‐Everytown Support Fund". How will Bloomberg’s organization provide support for the supposed student group?

#1  "The NRA is maligned 24/7."

Add Trump to that list of Br'er Rabbits who are ensnared by the tar baby. The fable states that Br'er Fox comes up with a tar baby to trap Br'er Rabbit. The more Br'er Rabbit fights, the more ensnared he becomes with the tar baby.

Except with the NRA or gun sales, it doesn't usually work out as in the fable. NRA membership and gun sales usually increase with every attempt by the left to limit or disarm the country.

Bloomberg is pushing March for Our Lives. Many left-wing mayors are also behind "March." George Clooney and other Hollywoodie types are also supporting the march. Probably, Soros money is in there somewhere.

Liberman: ‘There will not be a nuclear Iran'
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman addressed the Iranian threat to Israel’s security on Sunday morning.

"The State of Israel is determined to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. This is not just a slogan, not just words," Liberman said. "There will be no Iranian military presence in Syria, and there will be no nuclear Iran. We are not just saying this; we mean what we’re saying."

Liberman also addressed the scheduled "Million Man March" protest against the Israeli border fence in the Gaza Strip, scheduled for March 30th. "My advice to the world is not to panic. In every instance, we should remain cool-headed and determined. We are prepared for any eventuality. We are raising our readiness and will deal with any events as they happen.

Former defense minister Mofaz: Bolton tried to convince me to attack Iran
Former Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said Sunday that US President Donald Trump's newly-appointed national security advisor John Bolton had tried to convince him to attack Iran.

Speaking at a conference hosted by Yediot Aharonot, Mofaz said: "I have known John Bolton since his days as US ambassador to the United Nations - he tried to convince me that Israel must attack in Iran.

"I don't think that it's a wise move, not for the Americans today or for anyone until the threat becomes real," he added.

In 1998, Mofaz became the sixteenth IDF chief of staff, serving until 2002. He then served as minister of defense from 2002 until 2006.

"The Iranian threat is very significant for Israel's security. Iran is already at Israel's borders - in Syria and Lebanon," Mofaz warned. "It's impossible to promise a future to the children of Israel if Iran obtains a nuclear weapon."

Bolton is known to be rabidly opposed to the Iran nuclear deal, and is considered a strong friend of Israel. He has also stated that the two-state solution is "dead."

On Saturday night, right-wing Israeli politicians welcomed the news of the hawkish choice to replace Lt.-Gen. H.R. McMaster, who was seen as a constraining influence within Trump’s inner circle.

Bolton’s appointment sends "an unequivocal message to Iran that the days of the terrible nuclear agreement are coming to an end," said Kulanu MK and former ambassador to the United States Michael Oren.

"Bolton is known to hate the agreement," he said.

Sitting alongside Mofaz at the conference were former defense minister Moshe Ya'alon and former IDF chiefs of staff Benny Gantz and Dan Halutz. All four panelists said they were not in favor of nixing the Iran nuclear deal.

Ya'alon emphasized the importance of exhausting non-military options before using force against Iran.

"Leaders in the region have understood that their armies cannot defeat the IDF, and as a result have gone in two directions," said Ya'alon.

"The first is terror, guerrilla, rockets and missiles; the second is an unconventional threat, particularly nuclear," he added.

"To thwart or to destroy? For as long as possible, obtain achievements without using military force. If there's no choice - it'll be necessary to use force."

Chad soldier, 20 Boko Haram fighters killed in clash: Army source
[AlAhram] A Chadian soldier and 20 Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
members were killed in a clash in the restive Lake Chad region near Nigeria, a Chadian military officer told AFP Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday on an islet named Tchoukou Hadje, the officer said, adding that five soldiers were maimed.

"Twenty Boko Haram members were killed and a large amount of weapons was recovered," he said. "The Chadian army lost one member."

Two Chadian soldiers including a captain were killed in an ambush in the area a month ago in the first attack by the Nigerian jihadist group on Chadian soil since May last year in which nine soldiers died.

History and Rhymes of The Lost Battalion
"Buck Private" McCollum
Bucklee Publishing, 1939

If you are as unfamiliar as I was about The Lost Battalion until I came across the movie, here is an excerpt from the memorial address of Lieutenant Colonel Charles W. Whittlesey:

Page 6
We of the 308th have come to pay a last tribute to the memory of our loved comrade and friend Charles Whittlesey.

I speak for the heart of the regiment when I say that we all are mindful of his outstanding character, mindful first of that attribute given to few men, the absolute lack of fear, seen and known by many of us before that day when he sprang into world-wide fame. Ordered to advance thru (sic) the densest part of the thicket of the great forest of the Argonne to take a certain fixed objective and hold it, he succeeded, and alone with his battalion reached the designated point far in advance of the troops on his right or left. The enemy soon surrounded his position, and then began those numerous attacks lasting four days and nights. Over one hundred hours passed without food of any kind and with but little water. With the majority of his command killed or wounded, surrounded by the dead and dying, with no succor or help for the wounded and yet when the call for the surrender came, how instantly he refused it, and took in at once the only bit of white showing - the white on the ground panel for signaling to the Air Service; thus saying "They shall not pass" and no Hun passed save from the Here to the Hereafter. No man as a soldier can stand higher in the history of the republic and no man is more entitled to the nation's gratitude.

I mentioned there is a movie, and it is a very well done movie in my opinion. I wish I had come across this book first, not because there are conflicts between this book and the movie, but that the movie would have been an even richer experience.

This book is a mixture of poems, information, and photographs which can be best summed up by the author in part of the preface:

As one who served in the First World War, I have recounted here only what one pair of eyes saw in the split-second action of this thing called war, and the long tedious hours of preparation for war. I give you here an insight into the emotions of the American doughboy of twenty years ago. It is not an attempt to write a saga of the the American soldier, yet this volume has found its way into more than a million American homes. It has been printed again and again, and is reprinted now by popular demand, that you may have a comparative picture of the soldier of yesterday and of today.

You see that date of my copy's print; a bit prescient I'd say.

As to the quality of the poetry I will not rate it. It is sure better than what I can do. I will state that they are true and powerful rhymes which may be a bit clunky here, and quite witty there. I did enjoy when the poem was written in accent. The doodles, for lack of a better word, I think are really good. The combination of doodles, rhyme, and truth really got me in That Night At La Harazee. Just gut wrenching. The only poem I will include in this post is towards the end of the book, Mr. McCollum writing about himself.

The Buck

I'm a lucky son-of-a-gun,
I'm the guy that had the fun,
My clothes were never spick and span,
Just "Plain Buck" - "The Fightin' Man."

I should worry if my feet were bare,
Or cooties made their nest in my hair,
Captain cussed me every day,
Went right along in my own plain way.

I fought the battle of "Old Vin Roo,"
Was in on the drive on "Army Stew,"
No hampered Looeys broke my heart,
Just stalled along and did my part.

Whenever the boys felt homesick and blue,
They'd call on my for a story or two,
I made them laugh with my song and dance,
Put some sunshine in "Rainy Ol' France."

I never craved for rank or fame,
Always took things just as they came,
Earned a title that will always stick,
"Plain Ol' Buck,"..."Champion Gold Brick."

There are a number of reprints. Make sure you get one with illustrations by Franklin Sly and Tolman R. Reamer. Then make some popcorn and catch the movie. The book clears up some parts I thought were a bit hokey but were nearly straight from the book.

Link is to a print with both the author and illustrators.

Puigdemont's extradition requested from Finland
[Al Jazeera] Former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont faces arrest in Finland after authorities there received an international warrant for his detention issued by Spain, the latest legal action against separatist politicians from the wealthy northeastern region.

Madrid’s legal action against Puigdemont is an "attack on the heart of democracy", Catalan parliament speaker Roger Torrent said, speaking in front of the parliament, accompanied by various other heads of parties and a crowd of supporters.

If he returns to Spain, Puigdemont faces up to 25 years in prison on charges of rebellion and sedition for his part in organizing an illegal referendum on secession last year.

When police reach Puigdemont, a normal extradition process will begin, though they currently have no knowledge of his whereabouts, Finnish authorities said in a statement on Saturday.

In an interview with Spanish radio station Catalunya Radio earlier, Puigdemont’s lawyer, Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas, had said his client was prepared to present himself to Finnish police.

#3  That's not what i read in the local press. Finland simply doesn't have rebellion in its laws. Germany has something similar and a lot of Spanish jurists think extradition is a done deal BUT that would cause Merkel a lot of domestic political headaches. Nothing to cause her lose power bit enough to cause bad blood.
And the Spanish govt will gloat so uncontrolably that Merkel will bitchslap them via the Euro group within the Euro parliment to have at least a sense of propriety.

20 suspected in 2014 Kot Radha Kishan lynching of Christian couple acquitted by ATC
[DAWN] An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Saturday acquitted 20 people suspected of involvement in the lynching and burning alive of a Christian couple who were accused of blasphemy in Kot Radha Kishan in 2014.

Shahzad and Shama were burned alive in a brick kiln by a frenzied lynch mob ─ incited by announcements made from mosques in the area ─ ranging between 400-1,000 people for their alleged role in the desecration of the Holy Koran in Nov 2014. Both husband and wife were brick kiln workers, and the woman, a mother of three, was pregnant at the time. Police had started the paperwork but haven't done much else against 660 villagers after the incident.

The court today acquitted 20 suspects, giving them the benefit of doubt. Among the 20, 15 people were identified as Faryad, Babar Ali, Islamuddin, Zulfiqar Ali, Arshad Ali, Jawed, Abid, Sabir, Muhammad Sharif, Sarfraz, Sultan, Aftab, Muhammad Ashraf, Abid Hasan, Asif and Owais.

The ATC in Nov 2016 sentenced five men to death on two counts for their involvement in the burning alive of Shahzad and Shama. Eight others were also charged with involvement in the lynching and sentenced to two years each in prison. In 2015, the ATC had indicted 106 suspected in the lynching.

China-Japan-Koreas
U.S. and Its Vassal Forces Should Stop Sanctions Racket against DPRK
[KCNAWATCH.CO] Dignitaries of the White House and departments of state and defense of the U.S. are crying out for "maintaining the policy of maximum pressure" on the DPRK, whenever they open their mouths. Vassal forces including Japan are echoing it, saying that the prevailing situation on the Korean peninsula is a proof of effective sanctions and the sanctions should be maintained as ever.

This is a sheer nonsense of those hell-bent on sanctions racket.

The positive climate prevailing on the Korean peninsula was created thanks to the proactive measures and efforts of the DPRK and it can by no means be the result of the U.S. and its vassal forces' sanctions.

U.S. sanctions do not work on the DPRK. The more pressure the U.S. puts on the DPRK, the stronger Juche Korea becomes, endangering the destiny of the U.S.

The U.S. and its vassal forces are desperately resorting to the toughest sanctions and pressure racket against the DPRK by employing all means and methods. But this is just a last-ditch effort to get rid of fear and despair caused by their defeat and wretched plight.

If the U.S. persists in acting rashly, not drawing a lesson from its failure in the showdown with the DPRK, the former is bound to face bitterer disgrace and defeat.

Ministry of defence says Musharraf’s security not its job

In a letter written to the counsel for retired Gen Musharraf, Akhtar Shah, the ministry maintained that “provision of security in the subject case does not fall under the purview of Ministry of Defence”.

An application had been moved on behalf of Gen Musharraf on March 13 that the former president be provided security by the ministry of defence on his return to face a treason case in court.

French officer who swapped himself for hostage dies
[DAWN] A French police officer who offered himself up to a gunman in exchange for a hostage died of his injuries, raising the corpse count in the attack to four. The officer was honored on Saturday as a national hero of "exceptional courage and selflessness".

Col Arnaud Beltrame was among the first officers to respond to the attack on the supermarket in the south of La Belle France on Friday.

Beltrame, who first took his place among the elite police special forces in 2003 and served in Iraq in 2005, had organised a training session in the Aude region in December for just such a hostage situation. At the time, he armed his officers with paintball guns, according to Depeche du Midi, the local newspaper.

"We want to be as close to real conditions as possible," he said then.

But when he went inside the supermarket on Friday, he had given up his own weapon and volunteered himself in exchange for a female hostage.

Unbeknownst to the Morocco-born captor, he left his cellphone on so police outside could hear what was happening in the store. They stormed the building when they heard gunshots, officials said. Beltrame was fatally maimed.

His death raises the toll to four. The gunman was also killed, and 15 people were maimed in the attack.

"Arnaud Beltrame died in the service of the nation to which he had already given so much," President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement. "In giving his life to end the deadly plan of a terrorist, he fell as a hero."

Sierra Leone: Court puts break on presidential runoff
[Al Jazeera] Sierra Leone's High Court has placed an injunction stopping the country's electoral commission from going ahead with a presidential runoff scheduled for March 27.

The ruling on Saturday came after Ibrahim Sorie Koroma, a lawyer and member of the ruling party All People's Congress (APC), filed a legal request arguing that allegations of electoral fraud should be investigated before the vote takes place.

The court's order stops the National Electoral Commission (NEC) from proceeding with the vote "the hearing and determination of this court", adjourning the matter until Monday, the eve of the planned runoff.

Later on Saturday, NEC issued a statement saying it was aware of the injunction and awaiting service of official documents.

"While legal proceedings are on-going, the Commission will continue its practical and logistical preparations for the runoff," the statement said.

Sierra Leoneans are set to choose their new president, after an initial round of voting failed to produce an outright winner.

On March 7, APC candidate Samura Kamara finished slightly behind Julius Maada Bio, the contestant for the opposition Sierra Leone People's Party.

The run-up to the vote has been marred by tension.

On Wednesday, the electoral commission accused police of disrupting its work, saying officers had "unwarrantedly entered NEC premises, unannounced and at random, interrogated NEC staff, and obstructed them from performing their duties".

Police on Thursday denied the accusations and said they were investigating 200 cases of electoral fraud nationwide and that their role was to "remove from within its ranks" any NEC staff member likely to undermine fair elections.

Turkish army says killed 91 Kurdish militants in northern Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Ottoman Turkish strikes in northern Iraq have killed 91 Kurdish holy warriors in the last week, the armed forces staff declared on Saturday as The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

continues to target fighters it designates as terrorists.

The Ottoman Turkish armed forces staff said in a tweet that "In the anti-terrorism operation, between the dates of 17-23 March 2018, one of the leading cadres of 91 Death Eaters have been neutralized, various types of 34 weapons have been seized, 29 handmade explosives were identified and destroyed".

Iraq on Thursday denounced Ottoman Turkish Arclight airstrikes on anti-Ankara, Kurdish fighters’ locations in the north of the country that left a number of civilians dead.

In a statement, the foreign ministry spokesperson, Ahmed Mahgoub, said "The Iraqi foreign ministry denounces the continuation of aggressions and transgressions upon Iraqi borders by the Ottoman Turkish forces, the latest of which was the strike that targeted the villages of Mawan, Qassan and Sarkinan in Soran, Erbil, which led to the martyrdom of a number of unarmed civilians".

The statement said those "violations...do not serve the development of relations between both neighbor countries". It added it "reaffirms its stance of rejecting the presence of any forces on Iraqi soil or any attempt to carry out military operations by any neighboring country".

Earlier on Thursday, Kurdish media reported the death of four civilians in Ottoman Turkish strikes on the borders with Iraq.

Russia blows up Soviet-era landmark in World Cup city
[Al Jazeera] As part of city beautification for this year's football World Cup, the Urals city of Yekaterinburg has demolished its most notable landmark - a rusty, brutalist, half-finished Soviet-era television tower built in the middle of the city.

Local authorities in 11 host cities including Moscow, St Petersburg, Sochi and Yekaterinburg are working hard to put the last touches beautifying the cities in preparation for the June 14-July 15 tournament.

But in Yekaterinburg, hundreds of people opposed to the television tower's demolition by controlled kaboom took part in a Hug the Tower rally earlier this week.

Eugene Kuivashev, the local governor, defended the decision to demolish it.

"No one seriously believes that the city needs such a symbol," he said in a radio interview.

Ivan Volkov, a 39-year-old lawyer and head of a committee opposing the tower's removal, said the 720-foot-high (219 metres) concrete structure had been a symbol of the city's identity.

"Now, it's the symbol of the people's humiliation at the hands of the authorities because the decision was made behind-the-scenes. It shouldn't be done this way," Volkov told Rooters news agency.

The tower's construction started in 1983 under the communist rule, but it was never completed due to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Zimbabwe investigates Grace Mugabe for illegal ivory smuggling
[Al Jazeera] Zim-bob-we has launched an investigation into the country's former first lady, Grace Mugabe, over her alleged involvement in an ivory smuggling ring.

The probe was opened after a three-month undercover mission by Australian wildlife photographer Adrian Steirn.

Speaking exclusively to Al Jazeera, Steirn said he uncovered the poaching and smuggling syndicate when he began looking into the illegal ivory trade in December.

"Ivory was being sourced either from the national park's vault, being thieved or pilfered, or from live elephants being killed by poaching syndicates. The syndicate would then sell to Grace Mugabe's clientele," he said.

"She would then be able to pack that and send it out through the airport. Anything through that airport, that was the property of the first lady, was not searched or scanned in any way."

Steirn has gathered documents, undercover videos and testimonies, which he showed to Al Jazeera's Investigative Unit. They expose the syndicate and the former first lady's involvement in ivory smuggling, he said.

Israeli jets strike Gaza after Palestinians breach fence
[IsraelTimes] Four Gazooks reportedly tried to set fire to IDF equipment being used to construct an anti-tunnel barrier, fled when troops arrived

Israeli planes carried out Arclight airstrikes in the southern Gazoo Strip on Saturday night, the army said, hours after a group of Paleostinians entered Israeli territory from the enclave and attempted to destroy military equipment.

The raids targeted a Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, site in Rafah, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The reported strikes came after a group of Paleostinians from Gazoo infiltrated into Israel and tried to damage machinery being used to construct a new anti-tunnel barrier around the coastal enclave on Saturday night.

The four Paleostinians expeditiously departed at a goodly pace as Israeli troops arrived, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The infiltration occurred early Saturday evening along the southern Gazoo border.

The IDF spokesperson would not elaborate on how the men tried to damage the equipment being used to construct an above- and below-ground barrier around the Strip.

The men tried to set fire to some of the machinery, according to footage.

Video footage filmed by al-Jazeera showed the group of four men, with help from a fifth, cutting the security fence. The masked Paleostinian men run up and over an earth berm, into the area where the engineering equipment was sitting unattended.

After a few moments, smoke is then been seen coming out of the area

Since last year, the Israeli military has been working full-steam to complete the security barrier, which is specifically designed to counter the border-crossing attack tunnels that have been used by terrorist groups against IDF troops and which threaten the Israeli communities surrounding the Strip. It will replace the short chain-link fence that currently surrounds Gazoo.

The construction of this barrier, which includes both a thick underground concrete wall and a tall metal fence, is mostly being done by civilian contractors, who are supposed to wear helmets and protective vests out of concerns that terrorist groups might target them with sniper fire.

The barrier is meant to be completed by the end of 2019.

Turkey takes full control of Syria's Afrin: Military source
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
's military and its Syrian rebel allies have taken full control of northwest Syria's Afrin region, a Ottoman Turkish army source said on Saturday, as aid workers distributed food to people in the area.

Ottoman Turkish forces and the Syrian fighters swept into the main Afrin town last Sunday after an eight-week campaign to drive out the Kurdish YPG militia, which Ankara regards as a terrorist group.

A military source told Rooters the last remaining villages had been seized and control established overnight.

"Control has been completely achieved in the Afrin region and search operations are continuing so that local people can return safely to their houses," the source said.

State-run Anadolu news agency carried a similar report.

In Afrin, people queued to receive hot food which was being distributed by the Ottoman Turkish Red Islamic Thingy while Ottoman Turkish soldiers kept security and armoured vehicles moved along the streets.

"We are trying to bring back life to normal in the short and medium term here." the aid group's president Kerem Kinik told Rooters. "Our mobile kitchens are here, and our crews are in the villages."

"We want everything to be alright. We want our women and kiddies to come back. They could not come back to their homeland," said Afrin resident Abdurrahman Nahsen Suleymanoglu.

Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan rejected criticism of the Afrin campaign in a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday, according to a Ottoman Turkish presidential source.

Among Turkey's Western allies, La Belle France has been one of the biggest critics of the Ottoman Turkish military operation, with its foreign minister saying concerns for its border security did not justify the incursion.

"Pakistain reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations and expresses solidarity with the government and people of Afghanistan in this hour of grief and sorrow," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistain said.

Let Us Make Turn in Improvement of People's Standard of Living
[KCNAWATCH.CO] The Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) set it as the main task for socialist economic construction this year to strengthen the independence and Juche character of the national economy and improve the people's standard of living.
Juche's back! Hurrah!
This represents the noble intention of our Party to make the 70th birthday of the DPRK the greatest event of significance by bringing about a decisive turn in the improvement of people's standard of living.

We have solid material and technical foundations for consumer goods production, laid in Pyongyang and localities under the wise leadership of the Party, and excellent models and plenty of experience for the rapid development of the light industry.

When the potentials of light industry are given full reign to effect a great upsurge in production, can cheers for the WPK and socialism resound far and wide in the sky of September.

The U.S. imperialists and their vassal forces are now making desperate efforts to hold in check our vigorous advance and stamp out our idea and system.

The great spirit of self-reliance displayed in the light industrial field and all the consumer goods produced with our resources and efforts will be a merciless telling blow to the hostile forces.

All the officials and workers in the field of light industry should redouble their efforts to bring about a great turn in the improvement of people's standard of living through the on-going revolutionary general offensive in hearty response to the Party's holy warrior call.

14 more arrest warrants issued for Khadim Rizvi, other suspects
[DAWN] An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) and civil courts on Saturday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain's (TLP) Khadim Hussain Rizvi along with other absconding suspects in 14 cases related to the Faizabad sit-in held last year.

ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand issued arrest warrants in five cases regarding the Islamabad protests that were registered in the I-9 cop shoppe after Rizvi and other suspects refused to appear in court for the hearing.

The TLP leader along with other members of Rizvi's and other religious parties are facing multiple charges, including terrorism, in several cases that were registered in 26 cop shoppes across the capital after the Faizabad protests.

A civil court also issued arrest warrants in nine cases lodged in the Industrial Area cop shoppe.

An ATC court has already issued arrest warrants for Rizvi and other leaders of different religious parties, including the Tehrik-e-Khatm-e-Nabuwwat and the Sunni Tehrik
...formed in Karachi in 1992 under by Muhammad Saleem Qadri. It quickly fell to trading fisticuffs and assassinations with the MQM and the Sipah-e-Sahaba, with at least a half dozen of its major leaders rubbed out. Sunni Tehreek arose to become the primary opposition to the Deobandi Binori Mosque, headed by Nizamuddin Shamzai, who was eventually bumped off by person or persons unknown. ST's current leadership has heavily criticized the Deobandi Jihadi leaders, accusing them of being sponsored by Indian Intelligence agencies as well as involvement in terrorist activities...
Pakistain, in six cases pertaining to the Faizabad sit-in.

The last arrest warrant was issued earlier this week after Rizvi failed to appear in court for a hearing. Despite multiple warrants, no arrests have been made as yet.

Islamabad protests
Religious parties held a sit-in at Faizabad Interchange in the capital following the passage of the Elections Act 2017, which they believed deliberately modified the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat oath as part of some conspiracy. The amendment to the oath had been explained as a 'holy manal error' by the government and subsequently rectified through an Act of Parliament.

The rise and fall of the Muslim Brotherhood
Eleven articles on the subject can be accessed at the link.
[AlAhram] ‎Ninety years ago today, Hassan al-Banna founded the Moslem Brüderbund group, which went on to become a major player in both Egyptian and regional politics.‎

What follows below is not by any means a complete analysis of the role played by the group over the past nine ‎decades, but rather a collection of articles published during interesting times by both ‎Ahram Weekly and Ahram Online, with the aim of marking the day.

These articles attempt to explain the ‎rise and fall of the group which, after a revolution, managed to gain people's trust to win ‎both the legislative body and the presidency, and, in less than a year, became an enemy ‎of the people and the state; a group held accountable for planting the seeds of ‎radicalisation and violence, with an impact not only on Egypt but the entire region and even the world.‎

Schumer's Flack: ‘I, for one, am Tired of all the Winning'
[Breitbart] Democrats are spiking the ball after President Donald Trump accepted a 2018 budget bill which excludes his populist border-wall plan and is stuffed with Washington’s social and economic priorities.

The press secretary for Democratic leader, Sen. Chuck Schumer, used the budget defeat to mock Trump’s campaign promise to his supporters that "You’re going to be sick and tired of winning!"

The tweet likely reflects the Democrats’ eagerness to wide the growing pre-November split between the GOP’s business-first leaders and the party’s populist voters. That split could help the Democrats win sweeping electoral victories ‐ and a majority in the House.

In a relaxed conversation with Capitol Hill reporters on Thursday, Schumer said:

It’s a funny thing. In a certain sense, we’re able to accomplish more in the minority than we were when we had the presidency or even were in the majority ... We don’t have the House, we don’t have the Senate, we don’t have the presidency, but we produced a darn good bill for the priorities we have believed in.

House Minority leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi, also gloated, saying her side won because the GOP leadership pushed conservative GOP legislators out of the closed-door talks. According to the Washington Examiner:

"Much of our leverage has sprung from the fact that the Republicans ... they weren’t voting for this bill," Pelosi said. "That gave us leverage in all the negotiations. That gave the middle class a victory."

One result of the bipartisan leadership cooperation was that the bipartisan legislation blocked Trump’s border protection plans, giving him only 33 miles of new fencing to close up more than 1,300 miles of unrestricted border.

However, the bill also includes the priorities of the GOP’s business-first leadership, such as $78 billion in additional defense spending, and a tax-break for grain farmers. The GOP’s business-first wing worked with Democrats to sideline Trump’s border priorities which could reduce the supply of illegal immigrants to GOP-aligned businesses.

#3  I've heard other takes by commentators regarding the Omnibus Bill. Basically, they are saying Trump outslicked the lefties. They make the distinction that the bill is not a budget and Trump is not bound by these spending "suggestions." He can "slow roll" monies to left-leaning organizations should he choose. Moreover, he can use monies for, say, the Army Corp of Engineers to build a wall if he chooses. I dunno if this is correct but if so, it is interesting. The pundits are saying the Obama never really had a budget and he spent money as he chose.

I am glad Trump is supporting the military and trying to rebuild it after 8 or more dry years.

Hope he cleans out enough of the Swamp before it swamps him.

After Threats, FBI's Las Vegas Moles Promise to Break Shooting Mystery Wide Open with Bombshells
[TruePundit] The rogue faction of the FBI ‐ leftover disciples of the Andrew McCabe-school of federal law enforcement ‐ have waged a manhunt to find FBI personnel who are leaking REAL details about the Mandalay Bay massacre to independent media.

"People want to threaten us and FBI insiders for trying to tell the truth," said Thomas Paine, True Pundit’s chief muckraker. "Then we shall give them more truths and believe me when I tell you, you won’t want to miss what is coming."

Palestinians said seeking to join 8 international treaties
As if they were a real country, or something.
[IsraelTimes] As UN rights council passes 5 anti-Israel resolutions, PA looks to sign Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and UN's Convention against Apartheid in Sports

The Paleostinian Authority has in recent days filed official requests to join eight international treaties, Hadashot news reported Saturday.

The Ramallah-based government is seeking to join the UN’s International Convention against Apartheid in Sports and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, among other treaties, according to the report.

Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon condemned the "unilateral move" by the Paleostinians.

"The Paleostinian leadership is mistaken in thinking that it can establish facts on the ground by making detours and unilateral moves," Danon said. "Instead of ignoring the United States and Israel, the Paleostinians should stop encouraging terrorism and incitement."

The news came a day after the Human Rights Council adopted five resolutions condemning Israel, one of which called on Israel to relinquish the Golan Heights strategic ridge to war-torn Syria.

The five resolutions were presented by the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation under the council’s "agenda item 7" which concerns Israel.

Israel is the only country that has a dedicated agenda item at the council, a mechanism that Israel, the US, and some European countries say is discriminatory.

US Ambassador Nikki Haley
...Trump administration's ambassador to the UN. First woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley was the youngest governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
said in a statement Friday that the council was "grossly biased against Israel," noting that it had adopted only three resolutions separately targeting North Korea, Iran, and Syria.

"When the Human Rights Council treats Israel worse than North Korea, Iran, and Syria, it is the council itself that is foolish and unworthy of its name," said Haley.

"Our patience is not unlimited. Today’s actions make clear that the organization lacks the credibility needed to be a true advocate for human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
," she said.

Haley has over the past year repeatedly warned that the United States was ready to walk away from the 47-member body established in 2006 to promote and protect human rights worldwide.

for refusing to convert to Islam.

"We entered into negotiation solely to make sure that no single girl was hurt. This strategy paid off as the girls are being released without any incident," Buhari said to news hounds at the presidential villa in Abuja. The girls, dressed in brightly coloured hijabs, enthusiastically sang the national anthem before posing for photos with Buhari outside in a garden.

Describing the release of the 107 youngsters ‐ 105 schoolgirls and a younger boy and girl ‐ as a "cheery and hearty" development, Buhari pledged to recover "every kidnapped citizen in Nigeria." "While parents of the Dapchi girls rejoice because of the reunion with their children, I want to appeal to the Chibok community never to lose hope or despair. We are determined as never before to bring back our remaining Chibok daughters," he said.

The latest mass kidnapping from the town of Dapchi was an embarrassment for Buhari whose government has repeatedly claimed that the Boko Haram Islamist group is close to defeat.

Cold weather results in postponing Cherry Blossom Bloom in DC -twice
[DCW50] WASHINGTON, D.C. ‐ The peak bloom for D.C. cherry blossoms have been pushed back once again due to the cold weather, National Park Services says.

The new peak bloom is now forecast for April 8-12.

NPS says the blossoms lack the heating degrees needed to stay on track and there is no warmup on the horizon.

The initial peak bloom was set for March 17-20, then pushed back to March 27-31.

The new peak bloom puts the bloom watch over two weeks behind schedule.
(mid Feb had two days with max temps near 80F and that got into the initial bloom forecast but March has had freezing minimum temps almost every day)

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria forces close to gaining full control of Eastern Ghouta
[Al Jazeera] Syrian government forces are close to taking full control of Eastern Ghouta, the last rebel-held area near the capital, Damascus.

Two out of three rebel groups that had been controlling the enclave have already surrendered, with thousands of fighters and their relatives departing for opposition-held areas in the north of the country.

The third rebel group, Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
, which controls the city of Douma, has so far refused to give in.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
it is understood that Jaish al-Islam is also close to reaching an evacuation deal following negotiations with the Russian army, an ally of Syrian forces.

Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr, reporting from Beirut, Leb, said on Saturday that talks between Jaish al-Islam and the Russian military had earlier collapsed due to the group's refusal to be evacuated to Idlib, a northwestern province still largely under rebel control.

"Jaish al-Islam does not have good relations with the rebel groups which dominate Idlib province," said Khodr.

"What we understand is that they may be sent to an eastern region ... close to Leb's border," she added.

He said Nawaz was ready to escape before the end of the PML-N government’s term. Instead of making party his shield, the former prime minister must provide money trail of his London assets to accountability courts.

He said the so-called tiger who was intimidating state institutions few days back, now wanted to surrender but there should be no negotiation with plunderers and blackmailers.

He said the bereaved families of the Model Town massacre wanted the Sharif brothers tried in an anti-terrorist court.

He said the criminal mastermind of the Model Town massacre deserved no legal or constitutional clemency, and any such concession to him would amount to providing justification to all those who had declared war against the state.

If such culprits of the state got any concession in the guise of negotiations, accountability of high-ups in Pakistain would become a dream.

He said the disqualified group tried to divide the judiciary and the army as they had done in 1997 and 1999; in an effort to blackmail state institutions, they threatened to spill the beans but failed to achieve their goal. Now disappointed and scared, Nawaz Sharif wanted to escape before May 31.

Austin bomber called himself a 'psychopath' in a recorded confession and felt no remorse, congressman reveals
[DailyMail]
  • Mark Anthony Conditt, 23, died Wednesday when he detonated a bomb as police tried to arrest him

  • Authorities say Conditt sent out a number of parcel bombs which killed two people and wounded five others in the Austin area

  • Before he died, Conditt left a 28-minute audio recording on a cell phone

  • 'I wish I were sorry but I am not,' Conditt says in the audio recording

  • Conditt also said he had been a 'psychopath' since childhood

  • Austin police say the audio does not contain clues as to his motive
If he truly was a psychopath, it could easily be, “Because I felt like it.”

#1  It is interesting that "March for Our Lives" speakers did not call out for bomb control or confiscation. And they think the NRA members are a bunch of psychopaths. They are being played by politicians, Hollywoodies and others who have an interest in dismantling the 2nd. They also think the 2nd is outmoded and not useful today. Alas, our school systems are failing these students in their education.

#2  Genius kiddie marchers may have overlooked another inconvenient fact. Majority of killers look just like them.

Nor do they focus on the primary source of gun violence -- street gangs. Almost as if their goal is political, not actually saving lives.

group in Afghanistan has been detained, Afghan officials said on Friday, amid fears that IS gunnies fleeing Syria and Iraq are finding their way to the country.

The woman was captured during a military operation in the northern province of Jowzjan ‐ an IS stronghold ‐ on Thursday night, several officials said.

It has been reported that French and Algerian fighters, some arriving from Syria, had joined the group’s Afghan franchise in the restive province.

(NDS), Afghanistan’s spy agency, said in a statement.

The Defence Ministry confirmed that a "French holy warrior woman was among those detained". Six IS fighters were also killed, it said.

Afghan officials did not clarify how they identified the woman’s nationality. One official described her as "French speaking". They provided no further details about the woman or where she had come from.

Provincial police chief Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani said that US forces were also involved in Thursday’s operation.

"Four ISIS fighters were killed and one French woman... was also detained," Jawzjani said, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

He added that two other French IS fighters were killed in the province recently.

Jawzjani said Afghan and US forces took the woman into custody ‐ which was confirmed by the provincial governor’s front man Reza Ghafoori. Ghafoori said two Uzbek fighters had also been detained.Afghan and US special forces have ramped up air strikes and ground offensives against IS fighters in Jowzjan in recent months, which the Americans say have "disrupted" the group’s capacity to use imported muscle.

In January, Afghan forces caught the group’s "head controller of foreign forces". Two months later, his two successors were killed in a US air strike, a Resolute Support statement on Thursday said.

US and Afghan forces conducted a "nighttime raid" on Thursday in Mughul village in Darzab, the statement added. It made no mention of a French female fighter.

-Land of the Free
From Twitter: Trump At His "Millennial Summit": College Campus Free Speech Crisis Is Overblown
Just a few bad apples.

But those Alec Baldwin skits -- now THOSE are a problem!

What does overblown mean? Now everyone will look at the problems Young Republicans and Conservative speakers are having on campuses around the country, where before they were ignoring the situation as hard as they could.

#1  What does overblown mean?

Different context than overserved I guess.

Well, maybe not.

#2  Silly Skidmark. :-)

And while attention is being paid to tweets, a reminder from Forbes last August that President Trump need not spend all that Congress votes for, something he has been doing since the day he was sworn in.

For example, the Trump administration had proposed a budget with a huge one-third cut for the State Department and the Agency for International Development. Congress largely ignored Trump’s first-year budget proposal. It was too late, too unjustified, and unrealistic as an allocation of funds. Congress voted the necessary funds for State and AID to do their job.

The Trump administration has tried to promote the notion that it just wanted to see more spending at home rather than overseas. But, that appears to be just a cover for manipulating settled congressional appropriations to align with Trump's objectives. For example, there has been criticism of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for failing to spend $80 million allocated by Congress to fight Russian and terrorist propaganda -- not a surprise given the Trump administration’s relaxed attitude about Russia compared to a Congress that enacted more sanctions against Russia and restricted Trump’s ability to relax the sanctions.

#3  Overblown? I don't think so. Universities, have increasingly over the years, populated the faculty and administrative ranks with lefties. Moreover, "1stA free speech" has been supplanted with "political correctness."
Posted by: JohnQC || 03/25/2018 11:19 Comments || Top||

#4  We all know that politically correct speech is really thought or expression control.

Yep, Reagan did it before. You do not have to spend all the money in the budget or the authorization. Reagan put the clamps on spending in some areas he did not approve, instead of vetoing the whole mess and starting another spending authorization mess that is worse than the original budget...Trump may follow St. Ronald on this one and I would not be surprised. All of the cabinet members are loyal to DJT and it would not be a stretch for him to say "don't spend money on that" as in the odious $500 million for Planned Genocide Parenthood.

Iraq
Sadr tells Iraqi security member training under U.S. instructors forbidden
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Influential Iraqi Shia holy man and murderous Moslem leader Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
has told a security member it is religiously impermissible to get training by U.S. security instructors.

Answering faith-related inquiries on his online portal, Sadr was asked by a man, who identified himself as Ahmed al-Iraqi, a member of "Iraqi internal security services", whether it was permissible to get training by U.S. troops.

"We get training on the use of arms and the detection of explosives, but, sir, we are trained by the occupier coalition forces in Iraq," read the inquiry.

"I am not pleased with that, but it is our commanders’ orders," the agent added. "Be noted that I do not sympathize, eat, talk or jab with them, is that still considered an assistance to occupiers?".

Sadr answered that "this is forbidden, and if you may, get a religious exception (edict) to do it".

The authenticity of the inquiry and the identity of the asker could not be verified.

Sadr has been a central player in the political and militancy scene in Iraq, and had for some time, following the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, been branded an enemy to the United States, being an ardent opponent to foreign military presence in the country.

A U.S.-led alliance had backed Iraqi forces in their fight against Islamic State

turbans since their emergence in 2014 and until the group’s defeat last year’s end. While Iraqi officials were quoted saying it was expected that coalition troops would draw down their numbers after IS defeat, coalition officials said they were keeping a few thousand troops for training purposes.

'Wore a beard, didn't have a job': What we know about the 'IS-linked' French gunman
[DAWN] The gunman who killed three people in southwest La Belle France on Friday before being rubbed out by police was a 25-year-old small-time drug pusher with a history of minor crimes.

The rap sheet against Radouane Lakdim, a French citizen born in Morocco according to sources close to the inquiry, eventually drew deeper scrutiny by Sherlocks worried he was at risk of radicalisation.

In the summer of 2014, Lakdim, who lived in Carcassonne, was put on a watchlist of people considered possible holy warriors.

"He was added to the list because of his radicalisation and his links with the Salafist movement," Francois Molins, La Belle France's top anti-terror prosecutor, said at a presser in Carcassonne.

He was found guilty of carrying a prohibited weapon in 2011 and later for drug use and refusing a court order in 2015, Molins said.

In 2016, then in 2017, he was the subject of an investigation by intelligence services, "which did not bring to light any sign that would indicate he would carry out a terrorist act," he added.

But when entering the Super U supermarket in nearby Trebes on Friday, Lakdim declared he was ready to die for Syria, and demanded the freedom for his brothers before shooting and killing a client and an employee.

"He was just a regular kid, from a simple and regular family. He wore a beard and didn't have a job," a neighbour told AFP, asking to remain anonymous.

Le Gay Pareeien newspaper reported that Lakdim lived with his parents, and quoted a neighbour saying he had dropped off a little sister at school on Friday morning.

French police find IS notes in home of attacker

[Ynet] A judicial official says French police searching the home of the man responsible for a deadly rampage in southern La Belle France have found notes referring to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group that appeared to be a final testament.

Also found in the search of the home were a computer and telephone, the official said Saturday, a day after the attack. He was not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation and couldn't be named.

Police searched the home of Moroccan-born Redouane Lakdim, 25, after Friday's attack that killed four people‐two in a supermarket near the southern city of Carcassonne where the attacker was killed in an assault. The fourth victim, a gendarme who stood in for a female hostage and was shot, died early Saturday.

The official says there apparently was no mention in the notes of the attack plans.
