A bit more detail on the Hildebeest's Mandu stumblings
[MAIL] Hillary Clinton has slipped on a set of stairs yet again, just five months after breaking her toe in London.

Cameras were rolling in Mandu, India on Monday as Clinton descended a set of stone stairs at the Jahaj Maha palace and slipped not once but twice even as aides held her by the arms.

After the second slip, Clinton kicked off her sandals and proceeded the rest of the way down the steps without incident.

Top aide Huma Abedin was walking right behind Clinton during the incident.

The former Democrat presidential candidate was speaking in India to promote her book, What Happened, explaining her loss in the 2016 election.

Clinton blamed the defeat on voters who 'didn’t like black people getting rights' or women getting jobs, video of her remarks on Sunday shows.

The spill is the latest in a series of high-profile falls that - fairly or not - have led Clinton's opponents to speculate about a possible underlying health issue.

Clinton, 70, has brushed off most of the incidents as routine mishaps or simple clumsiness.

In October 2017, she was in London promoting her book when she arrived on the set of the Graham Norton Show wearing a surgical boot.

'I was running down the stairs in heels with a cup of coffee in hand, I was talking over my shoulder and my heel caught and I fell backwards,' she explained in the interview. 'I tried to get up and it really hurt. I've broken my toe.'

Siale Angilau's courthouse appearance ends abruptly (Caution graphic content)
[Fox13Now] SALT LAKE CITY - Authorities on Monday released video of a US Marshal shooting an accused gang member who attacked a witness with a pen inside the Salt Lake City Federal Courthouse.

The video from 2014 shows Siale Angilau leaving the defense table, picking up a pen and rushing at a witness who was testifying.

"Deputy Jane Doe" fired four shots at Angilau, killing the man, according to court documents.

United States District Judge John E. Dowdell granted the summary judgment Friday and dismissed the plaintiff’s excessive force lawsuit. Dowdell also ordered the release of the courtroom video, which had been the subject of a lengthy court battle involving media outlets, including Fox 13, over freedom of information and the First Amendment.

Angilau’s family argued the use of deadly force was not permissible in this case and claimed that the deputy fired several shots into Angilau’s back after he was already incapacitated.

The judge disputed these claims saying the deputy and witness were boxed into a corner with no room to escape the attack and the deputy had reasonable belief that Angilau was going to harm or kill the witness or other innocent bystanders.

Amid U.S. Cuts, Palestinian Refugee Agency Left in the Lurch
[ForeignPolicy] Nikki Haley bet the rest of the world would cover the costs of American aid cuts to Palestinian refugees. That hasn’t happened.
I strongly suspect the FP journalist has this wrong. President Trump assumed that the world would not cover the cuts, but was unconcerned that they might choose to do so, his key concern being that America no longer do so. His secondary concern is that a reduction of the green stuff would push the Palestinians to see that their interest lies in quickly making peace with Israel, or that they become less able to support their “covert” war.

Hildebeest Says Racist Poor People Voted For Trump, 'Optimistic, Diverse, Dynamic' People Voted For Her
[Daily Wire] On Monday, a woman who was never elected to the presidency, Hillary Clinton, spoke to a crowd in India. There, she laid out the reason she lost: those stupid, stupid poor people.

Yes, Hillary was a blue collar candidate, all right.

Here’s what she said:

"There’s all that red in the middle, where Trump won. Now, I win the coasts, I win Illinois, Minnesota, places like that. But what the map doesn’t show you is that I won the places that represent two-thirds of America’s gross domestic product. So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward, and his whole campaign, Make America Great Again, was looking backwards. "You don’t like black people getting rights, you don’t like women getting jobs, you don’t want to see that Indian-American succeeding more than you are, whatever your problem is, I’m going to solve it."

GOP Senator: It Looks Like We'll Have a SCOTUS Vacancy This Year
[Townhall] A holdover from last week, which is just too juicy to pass by without comment. This is intriguing stuff from Nevada's Dean Heller, the incumbent Senate Republican who Democrats are most bullish about replacing this November -- in a state Trump lost by nearly three points to Hillary Clinton last cycle. Many observers are framing this comment as a mere prediction, but is it? Here's what he told a legal group in Las Vegas on Friday:

"Kennedy is going to retire around sometime early summer," Heller predicted in Las Vegas last week, according to audio of an event he spoke at that was obtained by POLITICO. "Which I’m hoping will get our base a little motivated because right now they’re not very motivated. But I think a new Supreme Court justice will get them motivated."... "Mike Lee from Utah is probably on that short list of the next Supreme Court justice in our courts," Heller said during the Q-and-A session with the J. Reuben Clark Law Society in Las Vegas Friday.

I can understand why people might view this as an expression of wishful thinking by a Senator who's desperate to dream up reasons why his party's base will be fired up to turn out after all, despite existing red flags. And those flags will get bigger and redder if this race goes the Dems' way tomorrow. The fact that it's close is significant unto itself:

Dems push Trump to extradite Russians indicted by Mueller
[The Hill] Top congressional Democrats are urging President Trump to "devote all available resources" to bringing 13 Russian nationals accused of meddling in the presidential election to the United States so they can stand trial.

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.), House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Sens. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) and Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.) ‐ the top Democrats on the Senate and House judiciary committees, respectively ‐ sent a letter to Trump, saying the government "has a number of tools at its disposal" to bring the individuals to the United States.

"We write to urge your administration to devote all resources available to ensure that the Russian nationals indicted for allegedly interfering with the 2016 elections are brought to justice and stand trial in the United States," they wrote.

Special counsel Robert Mueller brought charges against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities last month for allegedly interfering in the election. The Russians are accused of working to "sow discord" in the U.S. political system, in part through fake social media accounts.

But Russian President Vladimir Putin said last month that he would "never" extradite the individuals.

Rosenstein defends Mueller: No reason to end special counsel
[The Hill] Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein defended special counsel Robert Mueller in an interview published Monday, saying that he doesn’t believe "there is any justification" for ending the probe into Russia's election interference.

"The special counsel is not an unguided missile," Rosenstein told USA Today. "I don't believe there is any justification at this point for terminating the special counsel."

The Washington Post reported earlier this year that President Trump had ordered that Mueller be fired last summer, but was thwarted by White House counsel Don McGahn, who threatened to resign over the move.

Trump has repeatedly attacked Mueller’s probe as a "witch hunt."

Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller following the firing of FBI Director James Comey and recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions from the 2016 investigation, said oversight of the probe takes up only "a fraction" of his time on a daily basis.

He also defended the Justice Department from recent attacks.

Trump and Republican lawmakers have slammed the department and the FBI, claiming officials there are biased against Trump.

"I believe much of the criticism will fall by the wayside when people reflect on this era and the Department of Justice," said Rosenstein, who did not mention Trump by name during the interview. "I'm very confident that when the history of this era is written, it will reflect that the department was operated with integrity."

Economy
A WTO without the US
Automatic translation, but brushed up to make it readable. Of course the picture of Trump is negative, but also has a few words for China.
What can Europe do when US President Donald Trump and the Chinese launch new trade wars? Pascal Lamy, former Secretary-General of the World Trade Organization WTO and EU Trade Commissioner, has a few ideas on this subject

DIE ZEIT: Donald Trump is threatening trade wars all over the world, the Europeans are already threatening to retaliate, and the Chinese are also closing off many industries. How harmful is this new wave of protectionism?

Pascal Lamy: Honestly, I don't see a serious protectionist wave yet...

ZEIT: The research institute Global Trade Alert has been observing an increase in trade barriers worldwide for some time now.

Lamy: I don't see it that dramatically, and I even think it's dangerous to shout "Wolf!" if there's no wolf at all. When the wolf really comes, people don't care. At the moment, world trade is becoming increasingly free, not restricted.

ZEIT: How do you establish that?

Lamy: Everywhere! Look at the lower tariffs on services and goods. Or the volume of world trade which is increasing. Of course, there are of course obstacles to free trade and, yes, a few new ones have been added.

ZEIT: For example?

Lamy: In many countries around the world, laws and regulations are now being enacted to protect consumers. If I am a rose grower from London, I may have zero taxes and restrictions on exports to Europe, Japan or the USA. But each of these regions has its own rules and bans on the use of pesticides. So I have to divide my rose production into different production lines: Roses for Europe, USA and Japan. That costs me something, and it also reduces my competitiveness compared to local rose-growers in these countries. But that is not protectionism!

ZEIT: Why is that not protectionism?

Lamy: First of all, it is not meant as protectionism; these regulations have other, structural reasons. People in these countries are getting richer, older and more afraid of risk. So the politicians pass corresponding protective laws. This can, however, also be abused, in which case it is protectionism. This is when such provisions are adopted to protect domestic producers from foreign competition. This is an old issue, and the WTO has long had mechanisms in place to deal with it.

ZEIT: You don't worry about the trade threats from the White House?

Lamy: Trump is a dog that barks more than it bites. His predecessor, Barack Obama, had not been as supportive of the WTO as it was in the past, and important personnel decisions were blocked, which made the work of the WTO bodies more difficult. But Trump, the dog, doesn't bite yet. So far! In the Trump government, however, a man has been made Trade Commissioner, Robert Lighthizer, who learned his trade in the Middle Ages, so to speak. Thirty years ago he was involved as a commercial lawyer on the American side when the USA accused Japan of artificially reducing the price of its steel. This man sees himself as an opponent of the WTO. He believes that everything was still fine before the North American Free Trade Agreement NAFTA existed, when Reagan was still in power.

ZEIT: So this barking Trump has some biting reflexes after all.

Lamy: Trump's biting reflex is: I want customs duties! His trading philosophy is very simple, and he has already explained it to Chancellor Merkel: The number of Chevrolet cars in Berlin will be the same as the number of Mercedes cars in Washington! He also says: "We have to levy duties on products from abroad in order to compensate for our disadvantages. That's total nonsense!

ZEIT: Why is this nonsense?

Lamy: Because international division of labour is efficient. If I do one thing better than you and you do another thing better than I do, then we should urgently trade with each other! But that is what the market should decide, not a politician. You can tell from the Chevrolets that they are not good enough for German consumers. Mercedes cars, however, are very well suited for consumers in Washington. That's how it works in the modern world. We are no longer in the world of the Pharaoh of Egypt and the King of Crete, who sign a treaty on who trades what at what price. Only Trump still lives in that time.

ZEIT: Trump doesn't sound like he wants to change his worldview...

Lamy: That's my concern. As long as people understand their reality to some extent, they may have different opinions, but these differences are moving within a reasonable zone. I know, of course, that many of Trump's own staff try to explain to him how the contexts really are. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, for example, is in a state of shock because the NAFTA trade agreement could be abolished. But if you understand so few things as Trump, you may make big mistakes.

ZEIT: You said he's just barking.

Lamy: So far, he has waived duties on washing machines and solar panels. He may think that washing machines and solar panels were the spearhead of technology, and that the US is making these products efficiently. Sorry, it's not like that. The Japanese and Chinese can do better.

ZEIT: Can't you understand Trump too? He sees that the Chinese, for their part, are not big free traders.

Lamy: Absolutely right, China is still a relatively closed economy. It must also be seen, however, that it is more open than other emerging markets. In my opinion, rich countries need less protection than poor countries. Now, however, there is a huge debate about where China stands, i. e. whether it is still a classical emerging market country. The US believes that China is a rich country with many poor people living in it. The Chinese believe that they live in a poor country with many rich people. For me, China as a whole is not a rich country.

ZEIT: Nevertheless, Americans and Europeans can rightly feel unfairly treated. The Chinese subsidize their export products, they even expand through direct investments and company acquisitions all over the world, but they seal off their own markets.

Lamy: Yes, China is exploiting a number of weaknesses in the system, for example by subsidizing its domestic manufacturers. We have probably focused too much on barriers to market access at the WTO, i. e. tariffs and the like, but not enough on subsidy rules. This is where the WTO could work better. I also find it totally untenable that China has not opened up its market for public-sector purchases. We have been talking about this since 2001!

ZEIT: The Chinese, like you, do not believe that all barriers should simply be dismantled and that the markets will then do everything efficiently.

Lamy: But if Donald Trump wants to protect his own market from the Chinese by making imports more expensive, he is damaging his own economy. He has also not yet understood that production chains span the entire globe today. For example, if he levies 40 percent taxes on iPhones from China, the US economy will suffer four times as much as the Chinese economy. He doesn't realize that!

ZEIT: Economic efficiency thinking is just a little out of style in the US, strategic and even military thinking is in. This is also apparent from the latest Washington announcements to impose fines on steel and aluminium imports.

Lamy: Absolutely right. In the USA, such a military-strategic argumentation has been around steel and aluminium for a long time. According to the motto: "If we do not have the production of steel and aluminium in our hands, how can we wage war? The Obama administration had even made such an argument to stop Chinese investment in a sausage factory. They said: "Sausages are an important input for the army. Soldiers eat a lot of sausages."

ZEIT: Between these big squabbling roosters USA and China, trapped in the middle, is small Europe....

Lamy: Excuse me, small Europe? Europe is not small. The European market is larger than the American or Chinese market.

ZEIT: Okay, can big Europe influence Trumps America and Xi's China to remain fair players on the world market?

Lamy: Europe must work with both sides. It must lead the US to put pressure on China and vice versa.

ZEIT: How, for example?

Lamy: Europe must lead the coalition of those who want to keep the US in the WTO. They must explain to the Americans that this is in their own interest and that the Americans must also abide by the rules. It is possible that the USA may want to demolish the entire system.

ZEIT: Are European leaders at the moment as determinedly behind the WTO as you want it to be?

Lamy: If that's what they want. We are currently having discussions, a common European line on foreign direct investment. France and Germany stand together, but 15 EU member states do not, because China puts pressure on them.

ZEIT: Europe can easily be divided on such issues.

Lamy: Of course! The advantage of Europe is that a federal system tends to be more reasonable. The disadvantage is that China or the USA can put pressure on the smaller states. At the moment, this is happening in a number of Central and Eastern European countries that are being told: we will invest in you if you support us politically in Brussels. "Divide and conquer" is the game of the Chinese and the Americans. I have been a long time Trade Commissioner in Brussels, I know what I am talking about.

ZEIT: In Europe, the population no longer necessarily believes that free trade is a good thing.

Lamy: Yes, that is true, but I do not expect any major protectionist reaction from the people of Europe either. Nobody expects that.

ZEIT: But hardly any politician will be going out of his way for free trade at the moment. You can't win votes with that.

Lamy: This is partly a cultural problem. In connection with all the migration debates, there is a general hostility towards everything that comes from outside. George W. Bush once said: "The problem with imports is that they come from abroad." That was a good point. There is also a socio-economic reality. Where social systems are strong, people are more in favor of free trade. These systems reduce social insecurity when jobs are suddenly relocated, skills requirements change, employment becomes more insecure and education or pension systems come under pressure. In the United States and Great Britain, the welfare state has been severely reduced in recent decades, and that is probably why we have Trump and Brexit.

ZEIT: What is the next job for European politicians? What should they tell Trump, and what should they tell China?

Lamy: The big issue for the meetings with the Chinese is the subsidies granted by the government to their producers. The big issue with the Americans is that they are causing too much damage to the WTO, that they are boycotting the proceedings there. On the other hand, European politicians should build alliances with Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Australia and New Zealand. There are plenty of countries that want a sensible middle way and that all have a problem when the United States destabilizes the WTO. The USA can then be explained calmly: We have a plan B.

ZEIT: A plan B?

Lamy: Yes, a WTO without the USA. So think twice about it, Mr Trump, before you break up the World Trade Organization! Because if we have a WTO without the United States, you are out there in the cold.

#1  Yup. Confirms it again. These people can see nothing beyond:

1) Their own interests, which they retroactively fit rational-sounding explanations.

2) What they imagine American interests to be. The fact that we wish to benefit our people at the expense of everyone who has profited handsomely from trade seems like insanity to them. "But GDP will slightly decrease its rate of increase! Doing this is the worst thing anyone could ever do!"

We know what we're doing, shithead. We're doing what's right for our people who have long been neglected under your system. It's going to come at your expense - just like you've been deliberately damaging us for decades. Now that the shoe's on the other foot, it's suddenly wrong and unfair that you don't get your way.

There are 3 massive sat networks that will soon be launched. The biggest is SpaceX's Starlink, next is OneWeb's and last is a Chinese one. Arson Attacks Hit Turkish Community Sites in Germany, Kurdish Groups Threaten Worse
Follow up to this report from yesterday.
[AnNahar] Arsonists on Monday struck a Ottoman Turkish community center in Germany, the latest in a string of attacks which The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
has sometimes blamed on Kurdish holy warriors amid its military offensive in northern Syria.

Unknown attackers hurled incendiary devices in the center of the town of Ahlen, police said, also telling national news agency DPA they were not ruling out a political motive.

At the weekend Molotov cocktails were thrown at Ottoman Turkish community mosques in Berlin and the town of Lauffen, a cultural centre in Meschede and a Ottoman Turkish vegetable shop in Itzehoe, where the windows of a mosque were also smashed.

No-one was maimed in the attacks.

Police tossed in the slammer
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
three Syrian men, who denied involvement, after the Meschede attack, DPA reported.

The attacks came on a weekend that saw several demonstrations against Turkey's military operation to oust the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) from the Afrin region of northern Syria.

Pro-Kurdish demonstrators rallied in Hamburg Saturday, where rocks were thrown at the Ottoman Turkish consulate, and on Sunday at Duesseldorf airport some protesters scuffled with police who employed pepper spray.

Turkey's foreign ministry voiced "deep concern" about the attacks and said on Sunday that the incident in Lauffen had been claimed by a group affiliated with the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

It added that there had been "a considerable increase in the number of attacks against Ottoman Turkish mosques in Germany recently by racist and Islamophobic groups as well as the PKK terrorist organization."

"We expect the perpetrators of these attacks to be caught as soon as possible and brought to justice and necessary measures to be taken by the German authorities to prevent the recurrence of such attacks."

On Monday Turkey summoned the German ambassador over the recent upsurge of attacks targeting Ottoman Turkish mosques and cultural associations in Germany, a Ottoman Turkish government front man said.

"The necessary warning was conveyed " to the German ambassador and a diplomatic note sent to Berlin, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said after a cabinet meeting in Ankara.

A pro-Kurdish website has published purported videos of the Lauffen and Meschede attacks, claiming they were carried out by Kurdish youths.

The Kurdish Community in Germany group sharply condemned the attacks as well as social media calls that were "urging Kurdish youths to employ violence against Ottoman Turkish institutions."

Its chairman Ali Ertan Toprak said such attacks "endanger innocent human lives and politically damage primarily the cause of the Kurds while jeopardizing peaceful coexistence in Germany."

Toprak urged Kurds to refrain from violence, stressing that it was unclear whether the attacks were carried out by "supporters of the PKK or the Ottoman Turkish secret service MIT."

Kurdish groups threaten Turkish targets in Europe

[DW] Hundreds of Kurdish protesters continued to hold demonstrations in cities around Germany on Monday evening, including Hamburg, Berlin and Bonn.

Roja Ciwan, a German-Kurdish youth group, showed videos of some of the attacks on its website.

In a Monday posting, it said that European states that stand by or support the Ottoman Turkish military operation will pay a price.

"The European states must understand that we will not stand by and watch as our people are massacred in Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan). The previous actions are not enough; here and today it is time to carry the war back to Europe."

The targets include Ottoman Turkish embassies and Ottoman Turkish groups with links to the government in Ankara as well as stores and cafes, Roja Ciwan said. The group also threatened the offices of Merkel's conservatives, the Social Democrats, courts and police.

"Whoever supports or defends the war against our people must pay. When nobody listens we will turn the downtowns of Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
into rubble and ash. Regardless of how or what burns on this day, Europe must understand that we will not allow Afrin to fall," the youth group said.

A similar call went out from the Apoist Youth Initiative, a pan-European anti-fascist
...anybody not a leftist...
group that follows imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, who is known to his supporters as "Apo."

The call to action comes as Kurds prepare to celebrate the Newroz new year on March 21, a holiday that carries heavy political undertones for Kurds around the themes of resistance and oppression.

Kurdish groups in Germany are organized under a plethora of acronyms, with most groups falling under the umbrella organization NAV-DEM. The movement gets support from Kurdish nationalists and politicians from the left.

Germany's domestic intelligence agency considers NAV-DEM to be closely linked to the PKK, which it calls "the biggest and most powerful foreign Lion of Islam organization in Germany."

The PKK and its myriad linked sub-organizations have been known to directly or indirectly operate youth wings.

The Berlin-based Kurdish Center for Public Relations (Civaka Azad), which is close to NAV-DEM, told DW that they have nothing to do with Roja Ciwan.

"We are currently concentrating on preventing possible attacks and massacres on the civilian population in Afrin and calling on Germany to ensure The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
complies with international law," a spokesperson said.

Concerns about Ottoman Turkish-Kurdish festivities in Germany
Germany is home to 3 million people of Ottoman Turkish origin. About a third are ethnic Kurds who came to work here in the 1960s and '70s, followed by another wave in the 1980s and '90s, fleeing conflict and persecution.

German officials have long voiced concern about conflicts between Kurdish nationalists and the Ottoman Turkish state spilling over into Germany.

There were repeated festivities and attacks in Germany during the height of the conflict between Kurds and Turkey in the 1980s and '90s.

For six years, Afrin has been controlled by the YPG, a Kurdish militia that is affiliated with the PKK. The militia is the main component of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces fighting against the "Islamic State

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Three Assailants Killed in Attack on Iran Military Checkpoint
[AnNahar] Three assailants were killed after they attacked a military checkpoint in southeastern Iran, the Islamic Theocratic Republic's elite Revolutionary Guards said on Monday.

The attack took place near the city of Saravan, about 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the Pak border, it said.

Revolutionary Guard troops fought off the attack, it added in a statement, saying one of the attackers was killed after detonating an explosive vest.

Two other "terrorists" were killed in the attack and two members of the Basiji paramilitary force affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards were maimed, it said, without providing further details.

Iranian media regularly reports armed festivities between security forces and criminal groups or "terrorists" in Sistan-Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province, where Saravan is located.

Most residents of the province are Sunni members of the Baluchi ethnic minority, while most of Shiite-ruled Iran is ethnically Persian.

In the past, Iran has accused Pakistain of supporting Jaish al-Adl, a jihadist group accused by Tehran of links to al-Qaeda, which has carried out numerous attacks in Sistan-Balochistan.
Why would Al Qaeda be interested in that particular quarrel?

Afghanistan
Turkistan Islamic Party highlights joint raids with the Afghan Taliban
[FDD's LongWarJournal] The Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), a largely Uighur jihadist group that is affiliated with al Qaeda, released a new video over the weekend highlighting its joint operations alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan. It is unclear where the video was filmed, but the locales featured appear to be in northern Afghanistan.

The video, dated for December 2017, primarily highlights the group’s combat operations, with sections dedicated to showing the overrunning of several remote Afghan military outposts in mountainous terrain. TIP and Taliban fighters are shown killing or capturing at least two dozen Afghan troops. Additionally, the two groups seized copious amounts of weapons and ammunition and several US-made Humvee vehicles. In some scenes, the jihadists are seen using captured Humvees in the assaults.

The TIP fighters are shown fighting under the Taliban’s flag and appear to be taking battlefield direction from Taliban field commanders. At least one child fighter is shown in the video. In separate scenes, some of the top TIP leaders are seen giving speeches. This includes Abdullah Mansour, who is the global deputy emir of TIP. Some of the video is also dedicated to anti-Chinese propaganda, as the TIP’s ultimate goal is an Islamic state within Xinjiang, China.

Several fighters who were killed during battle were also given eulogizes at the end of the video. It is unclear when these fighters were killed.

The Turkistan Islamic Party, commonly referred to as the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), is an al Qaeda-linked Uighur jihadist group that operates in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia, China, and Syria. In Syria, it played a pivotal role in the capture of Idlib Province in 2015. It has also set up numerous training camps in Idlib for its fighters, as well as for children.

Outside of Syria, it has been blamed for several terrorist attacks within China. Additionally, in mid-2016, a suicide bombing occurred in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In its investigation, Kyrgyz authorities placed blame on the TIP’s Syrian branch. The investigation also shed light on a network of Syrian-trained Central Asian militants, which includes members of the TIP. The network appears to use Syria as a launching pad for external attacks.

Relations between the TIP and al Qaeda and the Taliban
TIP has served as an affiliate of al Qaeda and remains a close ally with the Taliban. TIP fighters have fought alongside the Taliban and other jihadist groups against Coalition and Afghan forces since the US first invaded Afghanistan in 2001.

The conflict, which will enter its eighth year on Thursday, is taking a devastating toll on civilians, including in the ongoing regime assault on the rebel enclave of Eastern Ghouta, near Damascus.

According to the head of Observatory, 106,390 civilians have been killed in seven years.

Here is a breakdown of the deaths, according to the Observatory:

- 106,390 civilians, including 19,811 children and 12,513 women

China-Japan-Koreas
China in Greenland: Mines, Science, and Nods to Independence
[TheJamestownFoundation] Conclusion:

The Greenlandic government is enthusiastic about China as a key investor in mining and infrastructure projects, as well as a source of tourism and a customer for seafood, with a foreseeable central role in reducing economic dependence from Denmark. Such enthusiasm has not been reciprocated through major investments, although that might be about to change. Chinese companies remain cautious, as the development of the mining industry is hindered by high costs, low commodity prices, a lack of infrastructure and financial uncertainty. In political contacts, China avoids any signs of support for Greenland’s independence, but the topic is now open for academic discussion. Although it remains unstated, an independent Greenland with China as a key trade and investment partner and good political relations would be a valuable geopolitical asset in the context of China’s long-term Arctic strategy.

Russians begins production of fast attack patrol boat, BK-16
A year or so ago, Pella Shipyard of St Peterburg produced a fast attack patrol boat similar to this ship. Two differences are the BK-16 appears to be shorter and it also sports an additional three points for PK machine guns.

The boat is remarkably similar to the Swedish CB-90, currently deployed in several Western navies, including the US Navy and the Mexican Navy.

[fort-russ.com] “Kalashnikov” company has began the construction of high-speed landing boats BK-16 for the National Guard of Russia. The first launch of the boat was held at the shipbuilding yard “Rybinsk shipyard”.

“On March, 12 at the Rybinsk shipyard, a member of the group of companies “Kalashnikov”, held a ceremony for the launch of the high-speed transport boat BK-16 for the Federal Service troops of the National Guard of the Russian Federation,” – said the Kalashnikov a statement.

The boat has the ability to move at high speed, has a large landing compartment, and can come directly on to the shore with subsequent landing of fighters.

“Depending on the wishes of the customer, we can supply the equipment in various configurations for the solution of specific military tasks,” – said general director of Rybinsk shipyard, Sergei Antonov.

Lieutenant-General Sergei Mileyko, Deputy Director of the National Guard, attended the ceremony. He congratulated the management and shipyard workers on this event and wished them success in carrying out this order.

“Servicemen and employees are at the forefront of the fight against terrorism and crime, so one of the priority tasks is to equip them with the best weapons, protective equipment. It is very important that we rely on domestic producers and developers. Today, we are laying the first boat from a series of vessels designed to perform special tasks in the sphere of the National Guard’s activities.”

The boats are designed for operations in coastal zones, transportation of personnel, landing on unequipped coasts, medical evacuation, rendering assistance to those in distress in remote areas, combating piracy and terrorism.

IDF quadcopter documented dropping gas grenades on rioters
[Ynet] For the first time, the defense establishment uses a quadcopter to drop ammunition on Paleostinian protestors on the Gazoo Strip border, pan-Arabist satellite television channel al-Mayadeen reports.

The defense establishment used a quadcopter to drop gas grenades on rioters in the Gazoo Strip, Leb-based pan-Arabist satellite television channel al-Mayadeen reported over the weekend.

According to the report, the incident took place last Friday between the Gazoo neighborhood of Shuja'iyya and Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

This is the first time an Israeli quadcopter, a visible unmanned aerial vehicle flying at a relatively low altitude, drops ammunition on Paleostinian protestors‐in this case, non-lethal ammunition.

The video documenting the use of the quadcopter to disperse the crowd shows a relatively big black aircraft flying over the protestors during the weekly demonstration, as gas grenades land between the rioters, causing them to flee.

Last Friday's protest wasn't unusually big and didn't differ in any way from routine demonstrations that take place in the same area every Friday, attracting hundreds of Paleostinians.

"Any measure used by the Israelis doesn’t scare us and won't scare us," said one of the Paleostinians who participated in the protest and witnessed the quadcopter dropping the grenades. There were no injuries in the incident.

The Gazoo Division and the Judea and Samaria Division have been using quadcopters regularly during the Paleostinians' weekend protests to collect intelligence and follow the rioters and main instigators.

How video games are fuelling the rise of the far right
[Guardian] Donald Trump’s claim, in the aftermath of the Florida school shooting, that these events are the result of violent video games, resurrects old arguments about whether young people emulate the games they play. The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recent decision to consider video game addiction an official illness shows comparable concern. However, these responses demonstrate anxiety about the right things for the wrong reasons.

Gaming cultures are connected to violence – but should be considered in terms of the rise of far right political discourse and the prominence of “alt-right” misogyny and racism. While Trump is firmly on the right and the WHO may embody normative centrism, there is an aspect of gaming that should worry the progressive left.

The white male supremacy in gaming has been discussed in the context of the harassment campaign Gamergate and via the link between Trump and gamer message board threads on the 4chan website. Yet it’s not simply that many gamers are right wing, or that the right recruits gamers, but that the logic and pleasure of gaming itself has served and continues to serve the political right.

Hundreds Flee Turkish Advance on Afrin City
[AnNahar] Hundreds of civilians fled a Ottoman Turkish-led advance on Syria's Kurdish-majority city of Afrin on Monday, a monitor said.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
-led rebels have advanced to the outskirts of Afrin city since launching an assault on the wider Kurdish enclave of the same name on January 20.

"More than 2,000 civilians have arrived in the area of Nubul" controlled by pro-regime forces after fleeing the enclave, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"Several hundred more are still on the roads" heading out of the region, the Britannia-based Observatory said.

Afrin city -- the main urban center in the enclave on the Ottoman Turkish border -- is home to around 350,000 people, the Observatory says.

A journalist contributing to AFP saw dozens of cars and buses loaded with civilians and their belongings queuing as they waited to exit the enclave.

The Observatory says pro-Ankara forces have captured around 60 percent of the Afrin enclave since January 20.

Bahraini raids arrest over 100 members of alleged Iranian-backed network
[FDD's LongWarJournal] The Bahrain Interior Ministry reported on March 3 that its security forces arrested 116 members of a militant cell operating in the Gulf kingdom. The weekend raids are the latest in a series of major arrests of reportedly Iranian-backed militants in Bahrain over the past few years.

According to the Bahrain Interior Ministry, the cell was linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Additionally, it said that the members belonged to different militias in the island but the IRGC “unified them in a single framework.” Moreover, the ministry accused the IRGC, Lebanese Hezbollah, and Asaib Ahl al Haq in Iraq of training the militants in Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon. On state TV, suspected militants repeated the same claim and alleged they were trained by the aforementioned three groups, as well as Kata’ib Hezbollah, before returning to Bahrain.

These claims cannot be independently verified by FDD’s Long War Journal, however, this is a longstanding accusation of Bahrain. This also fits with a larger trend of Iranian support of various groups across the Middle East, including in Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, and Yemen.

Dorky high school brat is charged with planting 'weapon of mass destruction in the cafeteria'
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] A student who is believed to have pledged allegiance to ISIS has been tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
for allegedly bringing a 'weapon of mass destruction' onto the campus of a high school.

The St. George Police Police Department said it has charged the adolescent for the manufacture, possession, sale, use or attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, with more charges possibly to come for criminal mischief.

St. George authorities also said that they believe the juvenile suspect is responsible for desecrating an American flag flying at Hurricane High School and replacing it with an ISIS flag in mid February.

The underage individual is also accused of vandalizing the exterior of Hurricane High School with graffiti that reads: 'ISIS IS COMI'.

'Hurricane Police Department has a full time School Resource Officer on site and additional officers will be present to ensure students and faculty feel safe,' he added.

The identity of the arrested suspect remains unknown because they are below the age of 18.

On March 5, students were ordered to evacuate Pine View High School while police were called in to investigate a possible bomb threat.

Police Capt. Mike Giles told news hounds at a presser that the incident started around noon after a student spotted a 'suspicious' backpack with smoke billowing out of it in the cafeteria, according to stgeorgeutah.com.

'That student found a teacher and reported the observations to the teacher who then contacted the school resource officer that was on duty in the school,' Giles said.

The resource officer immediately enacted protocols that led to the immediate evacuation of the school and taken to the school's football field as the St. George bomb squad moved in.

House Intel Pubs Ready to End Russia Investigation - Jim Clapper Butt Hurt
[Townhall] Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee have found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 presidential election. As such, they are wrapping up the witness portion of the investigation.

In their report, expected to be released Tuesday, committee Republicans will disagree with the intelligence community's assessment that President Putin interfered to get President Trump elected. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX) was adamant about it when speaking to the press Monday.
"We found no evidence of collusion," Conaway said Monday. "We found perhaps some bad judgment, inappropriate meetings, inappropriate judgment in taking meetings ‐ but only Tom Clancy could take this series of inadvertent contacts, meetings, whatever, and weave that into some sort of a spy thriller that could go out there."

They are not cooperating with Democrats on this effort, who were not consulted on the new 150-page document, but will see it Tuesday for a review. Led by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the committee Democrats had planned to hold former White House Chief Strategist Stephen Bannon in contempt for failing to answer questions, and had intended to send subpoenas to other potential witnesses like Donald Trump, Jr. and pursue a probe into the Trump family finances.

BREAKING NEWS: Trump fires Rex Tillerson as secretary of state and replaces him with CIA boss Mike Pompeo
[DailyMail]
  • Dramatic morning tweet by the president announces that Rex Tillerson has been fired as Secretary of State

  • Tillerson, the former boss of Exxon, had just been on a trip to Africa and was last seen boarding his Air Force place on Monday

  • His last public act was to blame Russia for the poisoning of its former spy Sergei Skripal at a British pizza restaurant - something White House had not done

  • Gina Haspel becomes first ever women to be Director of the CIA after clandestine career and involvement in 'black sites'

  • Tillerson had a troubled relationship with Trump but Washington Post reported he had actually been fired on Friday without the news leaking
Update at 10:00 a.m. ET: The text of the “dramatic” tweet:
Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!
Update at 10:30 a.m. ET:
Gina Haspel will need to face a Senate confirmation hearing.

Pompeo will not, because the Senate confirmed him as the CIA director just three days into the Trump administration.
There’s a nice biography of Mr. Pompeo at the link: West Point, engineering company backed by Koch brothers, four terms in the House including sitting on the Intelligence committee and that Benghazi thing.

Islamic State attacks kill 10 in northern Iraq: Police

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
gunnies killed at least 10 people including a local Sunni tribal sheikh in two separate attacks late on Sunday in Iraq's northern provinces of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
police and local officials said.

In a village near the Sunni town of Shirqat, south of Mosul, Islamists stormed the house of a tribal sheikh who led a Sunni militia that had fought against the hard boys, killing him, his son and two guests, police sources said.

Islamic State, which had seized control of much of northern Iraq in 2014, lost Shirqat to U.S.-backed Iraqi security forces supported by Sunni tribal fighters in 2016. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
a small number of gunnies are still operating in the area and are capable of launching sporadic attacks, security officials said.

In the town of Nijana, south of the oil city of Kirkuk, five members of one family were killed by gunnies who set up a fake security checkpoint on a main road. The family were Shi'ite Turkmens - a father who is an Iraqi soldier, his pregnant wife, his two children and his brother-in-law.

Local police said their five charred corpses were found inside the burned-out car, after the gunnies expeditiously departed at a goodly pace. Two coppers accused Islamic State gunnies of carrying out the attack.

Another passer-by was also killed inside his car during the attack, said police sources.

Iraqi security forces launched an operation last month to consolidate control of the Hamrin mountain range near Kirkuk, intended to be used as a transit route for Iraqi oil trucks heading for Iran.

Security officials say two groups of murderous Moslems are known to be operating in the area - one formed by remnants of Islamic State, the other, known as the "White Banners", new and little known.

Iraq declared victory in December over Islamic State, which had seized control of nearly a third of the country in 2014. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the group continues to carry out attacks and bombings in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq.

Iraqi security officials have warned that they expect a new phase of guerrilla warfare from remaining Islamic State adherents.

Fog of war — The Times of Israel describes events thusly:
At least 25 killed in IS attacks in northern Iraq

At least 25 civilians and members of government forces have been killed in northern Iraq since late Sunday in attacks by the Islamic State terror group, officials say.

A police officer tells AFP that IS jihadists killed 15 people at a fake roadblock on a major highway in Kirkuk province, north of Baghdad. Another IS attack in the same province killed three others, the officer says.

In the Mosul region, seven people, including the mayor of a village, were killed by IS assailants disguised as soldiers, a local official says.

The attacks come despite Baghdad’s declaration of victory over the jihadist group last year.

China-Japan-Koreas
China: Big Brother Uses Big Data To Make A Big List
[StrategyPage.com] This switch from limits on Chinese leaders back to the more traditional dynastic “ruler for life” model was something of a surprise. Supreme leader Xi Jinping got another five year term in late 2017, allowing him ten years in office. This has been the custom since 1982 when it was decided that a “collective leadership” was a good idea and supreme leaders should be serve for only two five year terms (or just one if there were problems.) Since 1982 this has worked but Xi Jinping wants more and is getting it. This time he put ineligible (too old and more loyal to Xi than able to take his place) men in the Politburo Standing Committee from which the next leader is selected. Xi did not designate a preferred successor. And as “ruler for life” he no longer has any legitimate opposition to his power to do whatever he wants.

Another pattern noticed by foreigners (working from public records) is that “tigers” accused of corruption tend to be disproportionately people who had not supported current leader Xi Jinping in the past. Those who did and do support Xi Jinping for a long time and are caught up in a corruption investigation still tend to get punished, but in the form of quietly retiring and often allowed to keep much, if not all, of the wealth they stole. One area where this “friends of Xi Jinping” angle does not work so well is the military. The senior officers accused of corruption had fewer opportunities to support (or not) Xi Jinping, who came up through the civilian and CCP (Chinese Communist Party) bureaucracy. Corruption in the military has been an ancient tradition and there’s a lot more opportunities to steal now. Xi Jinping has made it his personal goal to break that tradition, or at least greatly erode the extent of corruption in the military and that means a lot of the accused “tigers” tend to be generals and admirals.

Xi Jinping has a solution that does not involve democracy but will succeed or fail on how effectively it imposed accountability and honesty on a CCP bureaucracy that is more concerned about getting rich any way they can. Xi Jinping, like Deng Xiaoping, is willing to tolerate some bad behavior if it produces a net benefit for China and its rulers. So far that has led to the prosecution of the more inept corrupt officials and at least encouraged local officials to do something about practices that lead to pollution, waste and abuse of power. Despite enormous efforts to censor the Internet bad news (of CCP misbehavior) still gets out and causes unrest.

Xi Jinping gained followers in the bureaucracy by demonstrating his appreciation of how important the loyalty (and effectiveness) of the military and national police was. Xi Jinping also pushed for greater emphasis on seeking new ways to use the Internet rather than just fear and seek to control it. Many Chinese admire the way the government has used Cyber Warfare and Internet based espionage to gain information (commercial, military and so on) that would otherwise be unavailable. To many Chinese, especially CCP members, this is admirable not criminal behavior.

Internet based crime is one thing, managing the economy is another matter. Many Chinese are aware that Japan was poised, in the popular imagination, to become a great power in the 1980s because its economic growth seemed unstoppable, until suddenly in the early 1990s it wasn’t. China is showing some of the same symptoms (falling birthrate, corruption and poor economic management) that ended the Japanese threat. The Japanese are still affluent but they have still not found a cure for their demographic problems. South Korea is suffering from a similar affliction as is Western Europe. The Chinese situation is worse because the CCP caused a lot of ecological and economic damage that would get fixed a lot sooner in a democracy. Xi Jinping is ignoring all that for the moment, but those problems, in the long run, will not ignore him.
Followed by more discussion, then a shopping list of resources for China to get control of around the world esp. Africa and MidEast.

Norway Says Russian Aircraft Ran Mock Attacks On A Secretive Radar Base
[TheDrive] The head of the Norway’s main military intelligence arm says his agency has watched as Russian military aircraft flew a number of simulated attacks on key military installations in his country and NATO warships in the region. The incidents offer yet more evidence that the Kremlin is taking an increasingly aggressive stance toward the Western alliance and that it is looking for ways harass it and its other European partners that don’t run the risk setting off an actual conflict.

Norwegian Air Force Lieutenant General Morten Haga Lunde, who is now in charge of the Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS), also known as the Etterretningstjenesten or E-tjenesten, gave details about three separate incidents in 2017 in an annual speech to the Oslo Military Society on March 5, 2018. Neither Norwegian authorities nor NATO officials appear to have previously disclosed the threatening looking flights toward a shadowy radar facility in the town of Vardø along the Barents Sea, a flotilla of NATO ships in the Norwegian Sea, and various military facilities near the city of Bodø in northern Norway.

Iran jails 11 for attacks on mosques, public property
[IsraelTimes] Eleven members of an Iranian opposition group accused of attacking mosques and public property have been sentenced to jail terms of up to six years, state news agency IRNA says Monday.

Hassan Heidari, deputy prosecutor general of Khorasan Razavi province in northeast Iran, says the 11 defendants, including women, were also convicted of "propaganda against the system of the Islamic Theocratic Republic."

Several of them were found guilty of having set fire to two mosques in the city of Masshad, IRNA says, adding that the rulings were subject to appeal.

According to Iranian authorities, the accused form part of an opposition group called "Restart," which was established by Mohammad Hosseini, a onetime game show host on state television

, who has gone into exile.

He is alleged to have called on social media for Iranians to attack mosques, banks and centers run by the Basij, a hardline militia linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

In October, several banks in relatively affluent northern Tehran were targeted in nighttime attacks.

At least 25 people were killed in a wave of social unrest that swept towns and cities across Iran between December 28 and January 1.

USS John S. McCain and oil tanker. Singapore Report.
[TheStrategist] The five-domains update

A report produced by the Singapore government has revealed the cause of a deadly collision between an American warship and an oil tanker in August last year. The report says the collision was caused by a ‘series of missteps’ leading the USS John S. McCain to make a sudden turn, putting it into the path of the oil tanker Alnic MC. The USS Fitzgerald almost sank in a similar collision in June. Seventeen sailors died in the two collisions, prompting the US Navy to institute reforms in sea training.

Australia has refused to follow the US lead in conducting freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said that Australia won’t provoke China by sailing within 12 nautical miles of China’s man-made islands. The US Navy has repeatedly sailed within 12 nautical miles of the islands. The UK recently committed HMS Sutherland to conduct freedom of navigation drills.

Another 10 GBU-57s ordered?
[StrategyPage.com] Air Weapons: More MOP For Mister Kim

In early 2018 the U.S. Air Force ordered another $21 million worth of their 14 ton deep penetrator bomb (the MOP or Massive Ordnance Penetrator, officially the GBU-57). Based on past purchases this would be 5-10 GBU-57s. Earlier purchases had included a lot of additional equipment as well as modifications to the B-2 bomber that is the only aircraft that carries this bomb. There is no official data on the number of MOPs the air force has because data on bombs used for tests and training are kept secret.

It is known that GBU-57 underwent modifications in 2013 and 2017 that required one of more of them to be used to ensure the mods had the desired effect. While the 2013 mods were apparently to increase penetration and effectiveness against Iranian underground facilities the 2017 mods apparently took the characteristics of North Korean (or even Chinese) underground facilities into account. The 2013 tests were apparently against an accurate replica of the main Iranian nuclear weapons development facility at Fordo. Some of the results of this test were distributed to American allies with the intention of sending a message to Iran. There is no indication that a similar message about GBU-57 performance was sent to North Korea after the 2017 tests.

CNN’s Bizarre Blackout On Democrats’ Farrakhan Scandal
[DAILYCALLER] CNN has refused to inform its audience of a growing scandal tying prominent Democratic politicians and activists to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, a notorious racist and anti-Semite.

At least eight Democrats are known to have met with Farrakhan, who routinely calls Jews "satanic" and has said that white people "deserve to die."

Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, misled the public for years about his relationship with Farrakhan, new reporting has shown and The Washington Post has acknowledged.

Illinois Rep. Danny Davis, a Democrat, defended Farrakhan as an "outstanding human being" and admitted to having a personal relationship with him in a pair of interviews with this news hound. After a backlash, Davis reversed his position in a written statement, denouncing Farrakhan’s "views and remarks regarding the Jewish people and the Jewish religion." (He previously said he wasn’t bothered by Farrakhan’s position on "the Jewish question.")

Of the eight Democrats with ties to Farrakhan, four of them have repeatedly declined to denounce Farrakhan, despite outrage and pressure from Jewish groups.

Farrakhan’s prominence on the Left isn’t limited to his newly revealed closeness with Democratic politicians.

The leaders of Women’s March, a top progressive organization, have declared their support for Farrakhan and have refused to denounce him even as they alienate other progressives by supporting a rabid anti-Semite. The group’s co-president, Tamika Mallory, suggested that Farrakhan is right to call Jews his enemies and compared him to Jesus.

CNN has largely ignored the growing scandal, even as other establishment media outlets, including The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

, ABC News, CBS and The Washington Post, have now begun to cover it.

CNN published one article noting Farrakhan’s anti-Semitic speech but it did not include the new evidence of ties between Farrakhan and Democratic politicians. CNN has yet to publish a single article outlining the new evidence of relationships between Farrakhan and Democratic politicians, as of this article.

CNN’s on-air coverage of the Farrakhan scandal has been limited to a one-minute segment on Jake Tapper’s "State of the Union," and one question that Wolf Blitzer posed to Ellison at the end of an interview in February. Aside from those two brief instances, the Farrakhan scandal has been entirely missing from CNN’s on-air coverage.

Lal Masjid administration ‘reclaims’ ownership of Jamia Hafsa plot
[DAWN] The Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
administration has ’reclaimed’ land that once housed Jamia Hafsa
... the Islamic nunnery maintained by Lal Masjid....
and a children’s library.

The mosque administration has installed a signboard on the land next to the mosque, calling it their property, while the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has remained silent.

The Jamia Hafsa building and the library were demolished by the government following the military operation in 2007.

After the operation, the government and the mosque administration, led by Maulana Abdul Aziz
...nutball holy man who runs the Lal Masjid in the heart of Pakistain's capital. After instigating a rebellion against the state in 2007, he was caught trying to sneak away dressed in a burka. He rejects democracy as un-Islamic, which it probably is...
, reached an agreement under which the CDA would provide an alternative site for the reconstruction of Jamia Hafsa.

The CDA has allotted 20 kanals of land for this in H-11, and construction is ongoing.

However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
the Lal Masjid administration recently installed a board on the site, claiming that the land was the mosque’s property.

Hafiz Ihtesham Ahmed, a spokesperson for the mosque’s Shuhada Foundation, claimed: "As per our agreement with the government we can include this plot [where Jamia Hafsa once stood] in the Lal Masjid yard."

While discussing the installation of the board, he added: "As per the agreement, ultimately this four kanal plot was to be made part of the mosque, but so far the CDA has not merged it with the mosque."

When asked if the CDA, which is the custodian of land in the capital, was party to the aforementioned agreement, Mr Ahmed said it was not.

CDA spokesperson Malik Saleem, when asked about the agreement Mr Ahmed had referred to, said he had no knowledge of an agreement regarding the merging of the plot with the mosque.

"The land adjacent to Lal Masjid is the CDA’s property, and no one would be allowed to encroach upon it," he said, adding that the authority also stopped efforts to construct on the land last year.

When asked why action had not been taken to remove the signboard if the land is the CDA’s property, Mr Saleem said they would look into it.

After the 2007 operation, the CDA had changed the master plan for the G-6 civic centre, erasing several plots adjacent to Lal Masjid and leaving the entire area an open space.

Southeast Asia
ISIS alive and well in the Philippines
More on this story from yesterday.
[ATimes] New military-militant clashes show Islamic State's local affiliates have regrouped and spread since last year's siege of Marawi.

Almost five months after Philippine troops flushed out Islamic State-aligned militants in the southern city of Marawi, fierce clashes erupted anew in restive Maguindanao province, leaving 44 Islamic militants killed, according to the military.

The dead — although their number could not be independently verified — belonged to the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), which like the Maute Group that laid siege to Marawi in May 2017, had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

On March 8, 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion troops under the army’s battle-tested 6th Infantry Division chanced upon an initial 50 BIFF members in the swamplands of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, some five hours away from Marawi by car.

According to the military, 26 more BIFF fighters were wounded, with only one injured from the army, in fighting that caused thousands of civilians to take flight to safer areas.

“The firefight was so intense. Our troops pounded them with heavy fires,” said Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Iyog. “They ran for their lives leaving behind improvised explosive devices, high-powered firearms, ammunition, and personal belongings stained with blood,” he claimed.
The fresh clashes between the military and BIFF came days before the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) observed the “Bangsamoro Week of Peace” on March 12, with the theme “Hope and Solidarity in Struggle.”

“Mindanao, particularly the ARMM, is deeply penetrated by ISIS Philippines,”

View from the Courtroom: Release of 25 convicts on bail in Mashal case raises eyebrows
[DAWN] The recent orders of the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
High Court’s Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
circuit bench suspending sentences of 25 convicts and releasing them on bail in the Mashal Khan lynching case have raised many eyebrows. The stance adopted by the concerned additional advocate general of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government, who had not opposed the suspension of the sentences before the court, has also been criticised by Mashal’s father Iqbal Khan and his lawyers.

A two-member bench of the high court had on Feb 27 heard applications for suspension of sentences and granting bail to the said 25 convicts. Those applications were filed in the criminal appeals of the convicts challenging their conviction by an anti-terrorism court on Feb 7.

The anti-terrorism court, which conducted trial of the lynching case inside the Haripur central prison, had convicted 31 of the accused persons, whereas remaining 26 accused were acquitted. The court had also issued perpetual arrest warrants of four of the absconding accused persons and they were declared proclaimed offenders.

The said 25 convicts, who are now released on bail, were sentenced by the trial court to three years rigorous imprisonment each, under section 11-WW of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, with a fine of Rs50,000 each. The said provision of ATA was incorporated in the law in Feb 2017 through the Criminal Laws (Amendment) Act, 2017, and it deals with lynching.

They were also sentenced to one-year imprisonment each with fine of Rs50,000 under section 297 (indignity to human corpse), 148 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of Pakistain Penal Code (PPC). The trial court had ordered that their sentences shall run concurrently.

Before the high court, the counsels appearing for the said 25 convicts had contended that as their sentences were short one, they may be released on bail by suspending their sentences till final disposal of their appeal. It was contended that these petitioners were behind bars for the last about 10 months, but there was no likelihood that their appeal would be fixed for hearing in the near future due to the huge backlog of criminal cases before this court.

The bench in its order observed that the additional advocate general had also got no objection to the desired suspension of the sentences to the extent of petitioners who were sentenced to three years imprisonment.

The court had granted them bail on condition of furnishing two sureties each of Rs200,000. While the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has empowered an appellate court to suspend a sentence and set free a convict on bail, the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) in clear terms provides that the appellate court shall not release the accused on bail.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Doggy Like Dickens, Balzac too
A pedophile has been left with "life-altering" injuries after climbing through the bedroom window of two young children, only to be greeted by their pet bulldog who bit his doinker off.
I'm not familiar with the source, and Googs describes it as "far right," and Snopes sez the story's false, but they do have an x-ray of a dog with about an eight inch baloney inside it, so it must be true.
52-year-old Randle James of Saline County, Arkansas, climbed into the 1st-floor window of the small family home into the room where the two young sisters were sleeping after passing by and seeing the open window.
"Ahah! A toddler and a first grader! I think I'll give 'em a good molestation!"
After climbing into the room of the 3 and 6-year-old sisters, James got more than he bargained for when family’s Pitt Pull Terrier leaped to the girl’s defense. The dog severed the rapist’s genitals clean off and swallowed his penis and testicles.
"Argh! My crank! My Bells of Saint Mary's!"
The commotion alerted the children’s parents
"Hey! Whut's all thet there screamin'?” he said in Arkansawanese...
who called emergency services.
"Howdy! Is that there Ee-mergency services?"
"Anybody here speak Arkansawanese?"

According to the father of the children, after calling the police, the attacker was in so much pain that he didn’t attempt to make an escape.
"Owww... My doinker! My doinker! Where'd it go?"
James was rushed to the hospital where doctors treated his wounds but said they were unable to rescue his genitalia after it had been swallowed by the pet bulldog.
"Doctor Casy! I have an idea!"
"What's that, Doctor Kildare?"
"We shave the tip of the doggy's tail and sew that onto where the winkie used to be!"
"Ummm... Better ask Nurse Ratchett about that one. I don't think most women wanta be greeted by a snarling pit bull when a man takes his pants off."

Hospital staff said they were able to "patch him up," and while he lost a lot of blood and was clearly in a lot of pain, he would survive.
"Pain! I'm in so much pain!"
"Have an aspirin, Casanova."

Aspirin makes the blood flow more freely. Better take a Tylenol instead.
They added that although his injuries were no-longer life-threatening, they were "certainly life-altering.
"I mean, how do you go through life without peeing?"
"I bet it really cheeses off that pit bull hangin' between his legs!"

"The family, who can’t be named, said they are just thankful their dog was there to protect the maiden of tender yearss from the attacker. The mother of the girls said: "He’s our hero. He’ll be eating steak for a week now."
"Hi, mister! We stopped by to play with our doggy!"
"No! Not again! Don't...!"
"Fetch, Rover! [THROW!]"
"Aaaiiieee!"

3 Kashmiri youth killed in gunbattle by Indian security forces
[DAWN] Indian troops killed three Kashmiri youths, including at least two engineering students, in held Kashmire's Islamabad district on Monday, triggering widespread protests in the region, according to local and international media reports.

Indian forces conducted a pre-dawn raid on a cluster of homes in a village in Anantnag on a tip that Lions of Islam were hiding there and came under fire from them, police said.

"Troops retaliated and in the brief fighting three Lions of Islam were killed," claimed Altaf Khan, a local police officer.

Those killed were identified as Eesa Fazli from Srinagar, and Syed Owais and Sabzar Ahmad Sofi from Anantnag district, according to agency reports cited by the Times of India.

According to the ToI report, Fazli was a B.Tech student at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri district.

Indian officials alleged that the three killed were separatists who were bumped off by security forces in a gunbattle.

As the news of the killings spread, protests and festivities against Indian rule broke out in several parts of the region.

Arrests of Uighur women married to Pakistani men spark anger in Gilgit-Baltistan
[DW] Anti-China sentiments are running high in Pakistain's northern Gilgit-Baltistan area over the arrests of China-born Uighur Moslem women married to the locals. These women have reportedly been nabbed
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
inside China in the past few months over alleged links to krazed killers.

Due to Xinjiang's proximity to Gilgit-Baltistan, the residents of the two areas have shared long historical, cultural and family ties. Many Uighurs are married to the Gilgit-Baltistan locals and vice-versa. The arrests of Uighur women from Gilgit-Baltistan could be a result of China's suspicion of their alleged association to Islamist krazed killers.

Uighur Moslems, a Turkic-speaking minority in China's northwestern Xinjiang province, have long faced persecution by the country's communist authorities. They are a distinct and mostly Sunni Moslem community and one of the 55 recognized ethnic minorities in China. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
the Uighurs feel increasingly suppressed and view Beijing as a "colonizing power" attempting to undermine their cultural identity, political rights, religion and exploit their region's natural resources.

In the past few years, the Chinese government has acted strictly against the separatists in Xinjiang. This has pushed many Uighurs towards radicalization and militancy. The situation is also becoming aggravated due to the fact that Uighur separatism is not only an ethnic movement but also has a religious dimension to it.

The Uighur issue is generally viewed as an internal Chinese security problem but some experts argue that it should also be looked at in the context of the rising global jihad and Islamic fundamentalism. The crucial point, the analysts say, is that the Uighur case is getting increasingly hijacked by the jihadist movements, particularly in Afghanistan and Pakistain where a number of Uighur forces of Evil have reportedly fought alongside the Taliban

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hezbollah forces participating in Ghouta massacre
[Ynet] Hundreds of the Lebanese organization's fighters have been taking part in the Assad army's onslaught on rebel forces in the eastern suburbs of Damascus following direct orders from Iran; to avoid criticism, Hezbollah leader Nasrallah has been hiding the fighters' participation in the battles from their families.

Hundreds of Hezbollah fighters are participating in the Assad army's onslaught on rebel forces in Syria and in the massacre of civilians in the Ghouta district in the eastern suburbs of Damascus.

The Shiite Lebanese organization has been forced to dispatch fighters to the Ghouta area following orders received from Major-General Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force and "the high Iranian commissioner" in Syria.

At the same time, Soleimani has eased the conditions of Iranian fighters in Syria by providing them with the status of "advisors" and "combat trainers" and sparing them from being sent to the front.

Local news hounds revealed Sunday that the Hezbollah fighters are gathered in the al-Makr base in the Damascus suburbs and are being sent to back the Syrian infantry forces and the Shabiha force, the Syrian regime's thugs, without knowing that they will eventually reach Ghouta.

According to estimates, some 3,000 Hezbollah fighters have been sent to the military base in the Damascus suburbs in recent weeks.

More than 1,100 civilians have been killed in the onslaught on the biggest rebel stronghold near Damascus since it began three weeks ago with a withering bombardment, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Sunday. The dead include 227 children and 154 women.

Furthermore, more than 100 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in exchanges of fire between the rebels and Syrian army forces in the area.

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah has been hiding the fighters' participation in the Ghouta massacre from their families to avoid strong opposition and criticism over the decision to send Hezbollah fighters on a dangerous mission beyond Leb's borders.

On Sunday, the Syrian army broke apart the rebel enclave in eastern Ghouta, cutting off two major towns from the rest of the area, state media said, after a fierce battle waged under cover of an unrelenting bombardment.

State television on Sunday broadcast from the eastern Ghouta town of Mudeira, which state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
and a war monitor said the army had captured to link up with units on the other side of the enclave.

A military media unit run by Hezbollah, said the army had also entirely surrounded the town of Douma.

Douma's local council said Monday the city faces a "catastrophic" situation as it becomes the main haven for thousands of people fleeing advances by government forces into eastern Ghouta.

Thousands of families are now sheltering in open streets and public gardens as existing basements and shelters are already overcrowded, the opposition-run Douma local council said.

"After more than 20 days of a barbaric campaign ... this has led to a deterioration of the humanitarian and food situation to a catastrophic level," it said in a statement.

Burials of the dead at the city cemetery have been suspended due to the intensity of aerial strikes, it added.
An Nahar adds:
Syrian regime forces advanced against rebels in Eastern Ghouta and pounded two towns with air strikes on Monday, as they moved closer to retaking the opposition enclave on the edge of Damascus.

Three weeks after launching a fierce offensive to capture the region, forces loyal to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
have overrun more than half of Ghouta, whittling down rebel territory to three isolated pockets.

Backed by Russia, the advance has battered Eastern Ghouta with air strikes, artillery and rocket fire, raising widespread international concern and prompting urgent calls for a ceasefire.

The assault on Eastern Ghouta has been one of the most ferocious of Syria's civil war.

Pro-regime forces advanced again in Ghouta on Monday, using Medeira, a town captured on Sunday, as a base to push against areas closest to the capital, according to the monitor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"The army used (Medeira) as a launching pad towards Harasta and Arbin," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Regime air strikes on Monday were pounding the two towns, which lie in the western part of Ghouta, the Britannia-based Observatory said.

The other two areas still in rebel hands are Douma, the region's biggest town in the north of the enclave, and the zone around Hammuriyeh and other towns to the south.

An AFP correspondent in Douma said the morning was relatively quiet in the town, allowing civilians to venture out of bomb shelters to check on the destruction in their homes or gather food.

By mid-morning, warplanes were buzzing overhead.

Rebel mortar and rocket fire has also rained down on the capital, killing two civilians on Monday in the al-Kabbas neighborhood, according to state news agency SANA.

More than 35 civilians have been killed in rebel fire on government-controlled zones in Damascus and its outskirts since the start of the Ghouta offensive, according to the Observatory.
