Merciless Sympathy
h/t Instapundit
[NationalReview] Jussie Smollett’s phony hate-crime story could have been taken apart in 24 hours, except for one thing: Nobody wanted to be the first to call bullsh**.

Who will bell the cat?

Not the police, and I don’t blame them. Smollett is a vocal critic of President Donald Trump who checks two protected-category boxes: He is gay and he is black. No police officer comes out ahead in any encounter in which he has to explain that he isn’t a racist or a gay-basher.

...Merciless sympathy is the stratagem by which our natural solicitous feeling toward those who have suffered some wrong or some injury is forcibly reconstituted into support for a particular political agenda grafted onto the unhappy episode. Those who don’t support the politics are treated as though they were victimizing the victim (genuine or hoax) rather than disagreeing about a policy question.

Merciless sympathy is how declining to oppose Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court is transmuted into callousness toward rape victims, how support for the Second Amendment is recast as contempt for the children killed in Parkland, how doubting the breathless accounts of the Covington Catholic matter becomes racist hostility to an elderly Native American veteran. As rhetorical stratagems go, it is obvious, shallow, and stupid ‐ and therefore effective in the era of Twitter-dominated discourse, in which shallowness and stupidity are weaponized.

...Merciless sympathy is simply one more weapon in the arsenal of contemporary mob politics.

...We have seen this often enough.

The plague of phony hate crimes on college campuses, often coinciding with controversial political events, isn’t the product of coincidence. It is a strategy. Fictitious, politically charged stories of rape ‐ Lena Dunham’s encounter with "Barry" the College Republican, the lies published by Rolling Stone, etc.‐are not the products of coincidence. These things happen in clusters for a reason. That is not to say they are being centrally directed as part of some kind of well-tempered conspiracy, but rather that they are the natural result of a certain kind of politics attached to a certain worldview.

Merciless sympathy is used not only to silence doubters but to silence dissent. That is the purpose of conflating victims with political agendas. And if there aren’t any particularly useful victims around, you can always make something up.

Jussie Smollett wasn’t the first. He won’t be the last.

McCabe Refuses to Answer Question About Lying Under Oath, Cites ‘Ongoing Legal Issues'
[Breitbart] Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe appeared Monday on NPR’s "Morning Edition" to discuss his firing from the Bureau and the investigation into leaking information to The Wall Street Journal.

NPR host Steve Inskeep asked McCabe multiple times about the investigation and lying under oath, which McCabe dodged each time by blaming the "ongoing legal issues" that he is "handling."

Senator Lindsey Graham on 25th Amendment Revelations (video interview)
[Breitbart] Monday on Fox News Channel’s "Hannity," Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sounded off on former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s claim Justice Department officials considered using the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office in 2017.

The South Carolina Republican vowed to conduct oversight over "those who watch us."

"It’s one of the most significant moments in American history if it’s true," Graham said. "You had the acting head of the FBI talking to the deputy attorney general about replacing the president. So what I’ll do ‐ oversight is part of my job. We do have checks and balances, so the Congress will watch those who watch us. I’ll try to find out who was in these meetings and talk to all of them, and figure out who is lying because somebody’s lying."

USAID mulls proposal to train aid workers as special forces
[devex] WASHINGTON ‐ The U.S. Global Development Lab is an innovation hub inside America’s foreign aid agency, which is tasked with taking "smart risks" that can unlock new and innovative approaches to tackling development challenges. Over the past few years, one of the challenges the lab has taken on is the U.S. Agency for International Development’s lack of options for deploying its people to insecure and conflict-affected environments.

For years USAID has struggled with a conundrum: to contribute to U.S. national security objectives the agency needs to be able to operate in places that present national security risks; but a culture of risk aversion ‐ which has intensified since the 2012 attacks on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya ‐ often restricts U.S. civilian officials to capital cities where their security can be better guaranteed. That tendency to confine U.S. civilians to secure areas ‐ sometimes referred to as "fortressification" ‐ creates distance between USAID personnel and the communities they strive to serve.

The gap widens when those communities are located "outside the wire," in places where violent extremism, instability, and state fragility pose additional risks.

In Feb. 2018, the Global Development Lab quietly released a series of reports it had commissioned from the Frontier Design Group to undertake research and development on new approaches to countering violent extremism.

One of the reports includes a stark observation: "Virtually everyone" the authors of the report consulted ‐ an assortment of military, intelligence, and development officials ‐ "shared a widespread sentiment that the USG [U.S. government] is woefully underperforming in non-permissive and denied environments."

The project involved carrying

African Cardinal: Abortion Is ‘THE Hate Crime of Our Era'
[Breitbart] Political correctness is the only thing holding society back from declaring abortion THE hate crime of our era, according to the formidable archbishop of Durban, South Africa.

"Is there any good reason, other than political correctness, why abortion is not defined as & declared immoral & illegal, as THE hate crime of our era?" tweeted Cardinal Wilfrid Fox Napier early Monday morning.

The cardinal was responding to Live Action, a pro-life group, which was tweeting about abortion and racism in reference to Black History Month.

"There is no group that kills more black Americans than Planned Parenthood," Live Action noted. "Abortion is the most lethal form of racism."

Live Action was started in 2003, by pro-life activist Lila Rose, who was just 15 years old at the time. Lila began undercover investigations in 2006, while studying at UCLA at the age of 18.

Abortion accounts for a disturbing 61 percent of deaths of African Americans, according to researchers from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

A 2018 report analyzed research using data from the latest year for which all the pertinent information is available (2009) and found that induced abortion was responsible for 1.152 million deaths, making it the number one cause of death in the U.S. at nearly twice the number of deaths from heart disease (599,413) and cancer (567,628).

While abortion accounted for nearly a third of all U.S. deaths in 2009 (32.1 percent), more troubling still, it made up 61.1 percent of African American deaths, according to the study published in the Open Journal of Preventive Medicine (June 2016).

Stupid Midwesterners Don't Understand AOC's Job-Killing Joy
[PJ] Amazon was about to deliver thousands of new jobs to New Yorkers, and billions of dollars in tax revenue to the city’s coffers ‐ but don’t you worry, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has proudly helped put a stop to all that. In flyover country, we’re a bit confused about why someone might not actually want all those jobs and all those billions for their constituents, and that’s a story Salena Zito has for you today. Her latest is headlined, "The populist sledgehammer kills Amazon jobs that Middle America would love to have."

Zito spoke with Tito Brown in Youngstown, Ohio, who said that he "can’t imagine driving a perfectly good thing out of a town that hasn’t had a perfectly good thing come its way in a very long time."

More:
Brown doesn’t really get that. He governs a city with a declining population, a 40 percent poverty rate, and would welcome the opportunity for a project such as Amazon to have considered locating here.

"Oh, any time I can get regional and/or economic growth in my community, I would absolutely want that here," he said. "It’s budget time."
But as Zito notes, "Ocasio-Cortez, who has become the leader of the left-wing insurgency within the Democratic Party, slammed the plan in a tweet the moment it was announced in mid-November last year." Why? Because NYC offered Amazon $3 billion in tax breaks to lure in billions and billions in new tax revenues. I’m not a fan of giving tax breaks to this company but not that company, or allowing tax shelters or credits to this kind of person but not that kind of person. My own outdated, naively republican preferences aside, the people and coffers in NYC had been looking at a real windfall. Had been, until the Permanently Pissed-Off Progs got their way.

Investigators Know Why Jussie Smollett Faked His Attack, Report Claims; But Did He Stage Even More?
[Red State] And the Smollett epic continues.

Investigators purportedly know why Empire’s Jussie Smollett faked an attack involving a noose and a mysterious chemical.

Chicago’s CBS 2 reports that a racist letter addressed to Jussie was recently sent to the television program’s Illinois studio. According to the station’s source, when it didn’t make a louder noise in the press, the actor decided to create his own story:

"When the letter didn’t get enough attention, he concocted the staged attack," a source told CBS 2 Investigator Brad Edwards. Other sources corroborated that information.

The blockbuster revelation into at least part of Smollett’s potential motive comes two days after CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar reported Smollett and two brothers ‐ Ola and Abel Osundairo ‐ staged the attack on Jan. 29 in Streeterville.

De Mar spoke on the phone exclusively with the Osundairo brothers Monday afternoon. In a joint statement, they said: "We are not racist. We are not homophobic and we are not anti-Trump. We were born and raised in Chicago and are American citizens."
As per the CBS piece, on January 22nd, Jussie received mail featuring a drawn, hanged stick figure with a gun to his head, "MAGA" in capital letters, and ransom-note-style cut-out magazine letters spelling "You will die, black fag."

The powder was later determined to be aspirin.

But could Jussie have also participated in the letter sent to the show’s Chicago Cinespace Studios?

More from CBS 2:

The timing *is* curious. Never mind KneePads and Spartacus using the same modern day lynching phrase in their tweets.

I gotta ask: do we really need an anti-lynching bill? When was the last time anyone was lynched in the USA? Doesn't lynching fall under existing statutes for murder, assault or aggravated littering?

#8  When the letter didn’t get enough attention, he concocted the staged attack

With all the other bullcrap going on in the world, I didn't think the attack was particularly newsworthy either. I mean, how many muggings happen every day in Chicago? Just like the Covington kids, if journalists in this country had the slightest bit of integrity left in them, they would have paid no attention when some crazy old Indian claimed he was harassed by a high school boy. But then, just like the Covington kids, it was a chance for the Lame Stream Media to blame a hate crime on Trump. There's your motive and that's why Smollett's story reeked of old fish from the get go. But even now, after the truth has been revealed, you can bet that the same snowflakes who bit on this bait will bite again whenever the same kind of bait is dangled in front of them. And the best way to discourage it would be to sentence Smollett to some serious jail time for filing a false report to the police.

Left To State Supreme Court Candidate: You Can't Be A Good Judge Because You're A Christian
[The Federalist] With six weeks left until election day in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race, several far-left organizations are using media outlets to amplify a smear campaign against a judge based on his Christianity. Brian Hagedorn, a current Wisconsin Court of Appeals judge and former Scott Walker legal counsel, is being publicly trashed for being on the board of a small Christian school, and for blog posts when he was in law school discussing court cases about abortion and gay sex.

In considering a run for the state Supreme Court, the father of five children says, "I expected to be attacked here because that’s what’s happening all across the country‐you know, ’Are you now or have you ever been associated with the Knights of Columbus?'" he said, chuckling. "Interrogating people [nominated for office] if they went to a Bible study or the Knights of Columbus, that’s where we are as a country."

The media characterization of his writing is often misleading. For example, a ThinkProgress hit piece claims that, in a blog post paraphrasing former Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia’s dissent on a case about Texas sodomy laws, Hagedorn "compared homosexuality to bestiality." In fact, his post simply notes the U.S. Constitution has nothing to say about any supposed rights to sex with anyone or anything, then essentially paraphrases Scalia’s dissent, which two other justices joined.

That dissent said striking a law against sodomy on the grounds that states are constitutionally forbidden from banning any sexual activity citizens consider "immoral and unacceptable" also eliminates the legal basis for "criminal laws against fornication, bigamy, adultery, adult incest, bestiality, and obscenity." Scalia instead invited LGBT activists to persuade their fellow citizens that sodomy bans were wrong and change the laws, rather than using courts to eliminate the legal basis on which states criminalize socially disapproved sexual behaviors.

While a law student in 2005, Hagedorn simply wrote he agreed with this legal analysis. It doesn’t compare bestiality and homosexuality in anything except the basis for former laws against them. That both were illegal on this basis until relatively recently is simply a fact. Yet like ThinkProgress, several Wisconsin outlets quoted context-free snippets of Hagedorn’s post in a rush to paint him as a bigot.

Which means, that the Federal government has/had no say in the issue. That thus by the 10th Amendment reverts to the states.

Pakistan urges U.N. to intervene over Kashmir tension with India
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan’s foreign minister appealed to the U.N. Secretary General on Tuesday to help ease tension with India that has escalated sharply following a suicide bomb attack in the Indian part of disputed Kashmir, that India blamed on Pakistan.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, facing an election by May, has warned Pakistan to expect a "strong response" to the bombing claimed by a Pakistan-linked militant group, raising fears of conflict between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

"It is with a sense of urgency that I draw your attention to the deteriorating security situation in our region resulting from the threat of use of force against Pakistan by India," Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi wrote to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

"It is imperative to take steps for de-escalation. The United Nations must step in to defuse tensions," he wrote, blaming India for deliberately ratcheting up its hostile rhetoric for domestic political reasons.

The Pakistani appeal follows days of rising tension between the old rivals after a suicide bomber blew himself up near an Indian police convoy in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Thursday, killing at least 40 paramilitary police.

Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein to step down in March: official
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rod Rosenstein, the U.S. deputy attorney general who appointed a special counsel to investigate possible ties between Russia and President Donald Trump’s campaign, is expected to step down by mid March, a Justice Department official said on Monday.

Rosenstein had been expected to depart shortly after new Attorney General William Barr assumed office. Barr was confirmed for the role by the U.S. Senate last week.

The Justice official said Rosenstein’s departure was not related to renewed allegations that he considered wearing a wire in meetings with Trump and using the 25th amendment of the U.S. Constitution to remove the president from office.

Rosenstein, the No. 2 official at the Justice Department, in May 2017 named Special Counsel Robert Mueller to investigate ties between Trump’s 2016 presidential election campaign and Moscow. The investigation continues.

A registered Republican, Rosenstein made the decision because his then-boss, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a Trump supporter during the 2016 campaign, had recused himself from the issue.

Last September, the New York Times reported Rosenstein in 2017 had suggested secretly recording Trump and recruiting Cabinet members to oust the president using the provisions of the Constitution’s 25th Amendment.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The FBI's Trump Panic - McCabe reveals how officials contemplated a bureaucratic coup.
[WSJ] The American people have largely taken the disruptive Trump Presidency in stride, going about their lives and expressing their approval or not the constitutional way‐at the ballot box. The same can’t be said for many of the country’s panicked elites, as we are learning anew about the Federal Bureau of Investigation as former deputy director Andrew McCabe hawks a new memoir.

Mr. McCabe now says that, after Mr. Trump fired FBI director Jim Comey in May 2017, Mr. McCabe and senior Justice Department officials "discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet could be brought together to remove the President of the United States under the 25th Amendment." That’s according to Scott Pelley’s account of his interview with Mr. McCabe aired Sunday on CBS’s "60 Minutes."

In the interview, Mr. McCabe says Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein raised the 25th Amendment scenario "and discussed it with me in the context of thinking about how many other cabinet officials might support such an effort." Mr. McCabe says he didn’t contribute much but seems to excuse the conversation because "it was an unbelievably stressful time."

16 States file lawsuit seeking to block Trump's national emergency declaration
[The Hill] A group of 16 states filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to block President Trump's move to declare a national emergency to get funding for his proposed southern border wall.

The states, 15 of which have Democratic governors, called the situation at the border a "manufactured crisis."

"President Trump has veered the country toward a constitutional crisis of his own making. For years, President Trump has repeatedly stated his intention to build a wall across the United States-Mexico border," reads the suit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

The states are asking the court to permanently enjoin the Trump administration from building a border wall without an appropriation by Congress, permanently block the administration from diverting federal funding toward construction of a border wall; and declare the national emergency declaration unlawful.

The suit says the states are bringing forth the injunction "to protect their residents, natural resources, and economic interests from President Donald J. Trump’s flagrant disregard of fundamental separation of powers principles engrained in the United States Constitution."

Hypnotizing the World: Rep. Omar Has Ties to Rad Anti-Israel, Anti-American Group
[Free Beacon] Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) has ties to a group that includes numerous radical anti-American and anti-Israel activists on its board of directors.

Notes of support posted to the controversial congresswoman's door include a message from the organization Witness for Peace. "Keep up the good work!" the note reads, signed, "Witness for Peace Columbia Team :)."

The note appeared the same week Omar attacked Elliott Abrams, a Jewish-American and longtime diplomat who served in the Reagan and Bush administrations. Abrams is now the U.S. Special Representative for Venezuela. Omar has sided with the socialist government in Venezuela, accusing the Trump administration of leading a "U.S.-backed coup" against Nicolas Maduro.

Witness for Peace got its start fighting the Reagan administration's anti-communist policies during the Cold War, specifically the group opposed funding the Contras in Nicaragua. Abrams, who Omar called "Mr. Adams," pleaded guilty to misdemeanors for withholding information from Congress during the Iran-Contra scandal, and was later pardoned.

"Faith-based peace activists founded Witness for Peace in response to the U.S. funding of the Contras," its website states. In 1984 "Witness for Peace activists across the country organized events to resist Reagan's war on Central America," the group said.

Omar attended a delegation sponsored by Witness for Peace to Honduras in November 2017. She returned to the Minnesota House of Representatives calling for an end to U.S. military aid to Honduras, a position shared by the radical group Code Pink.

Kamala: Change Columbus Day to ‘Indigenous Peoples' Day'‐ US ‘Scene of a Crime'
[Breitbart] Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) said on Monday that she supports changing Columbus Day to "Indigenous Peoples’ Day" in part because Americans have to remember that the United States is "the scene of a crime" when it comes to "institutionalized racism."

At a town hall event in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a questioner asked Harris, the 2020 presidential candidate, if she would support an "Indigenous Peoples’ Day" at the federal level because the voices of indigenous Americans are being "erased and marginalized."

Harris said she would support the change, arguing that it matters because Americans have to "remember history."

"We have to remember our history. Uncomfortable, to your point about truths, though it may make us," she said.

Harris then talked about her anti-lynching bill that recently passed the Senate and said it "finally got passed" in 2019 partly because "people did not want to deal and accept, and most importantly, admit that we are the scene of a crime when it comes to what we did with slavery and Jim Crow and institutionalized racism in this country."

Utah House Approves Ban on Down Syndrome Abortions
[Breibart] The Utah state House has passed a bill that prohibits abortions sought expressly because the unborn baby has been diagnosed with Down syndrome.

The legislation passed the state House, 54-15, along party lines, on Friday.

Republican state Rep. Karianne Lisonbee sponsored the legislation, H.B. 166, which states pregnant women must be provided with specific information prior to having an abortion. Additionally, the bill prohibits a person from "performing, inducing, or attempting to perform or induce an abortion on a pregnant woman who is seeking the abortion solely because an unborn child has or may have Down syndrome."

U.S. Taxpayers Fund Border Walls in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Middle East
[Breitbart] American taxpayers are continuing to fund border security measures and border walls in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, and Lebanon with President Trump’s signing of a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spending bill.

While the United States-Mexico border received only $1.3 billion for construction of a border wall at the overwhelmed southern border with soaring illegal immigration, foreign countries are getting help from American taxpayers to secure their borders.

The Republican-Democrat spending bill signed by Trump last week provides Pakistan with at least $15 million in U.S. taxpayer money for "border security programs" as well as funding for "cross border stabilization" between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Trump tweeted on Sunday that Washington was "asking Britannia, La Belle France, Germany and other European allies to take back over 800 ISIS fighters that we captured in Syria and put them on trial".

His comments came with diehard Islamic State

group fighters trapped in the last pocket of their crumbling "caliphate" in Syria.

Prime Minister Theresa May's front man said the fighters should be put on trial in places where they committed their crimes.

"Foreign fighters should be brought to justice in accordance with due legal process in the most appropriate jurisdiction," Downing Street said.

"Where possible, this should be in the region where the crimes had been committed."

The front man added that London continued "to work closely with our international partners on this."

U.S. allies have been grappling for weeks with what to do with imported muscle detained in the war-ravaged country by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.

The issue's urgency was raised in Britannia after a London school girl who joined the Islamic State in 2015 resurfaced in a Syrian refugee camp last week.

Shamima Begum told British media she wanted to come back to London to raise a baby she gave birth to this weekend.

UK security officials said they could not block Begum's return since she had never been convicted of any crimes.

But they did not rule out prosecuting her upon her arrival.

Iran Arrests 3 'Terrorists' over Suicide Bomb Attack
[AnNahar] Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards said Monday it has tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
three "terrorists" involved in last week's deadly suicide kaboom on security forces in a region bordering Pakistain.

"Safe houses in (the cities of) Saravan and Khash were identified and eliminated, and the gunnies based in them were arrested," the force said on its official Sepah news agency.

"Three of the gunnies were arrested and 150 kilograms (330 pounds) of explosives and 600 kilograms of kabooms as well as weapons and ammunition were confiscated," it said.

The Guards said the three arrested had "produced, guided and supported" the vehicle used in Wednesday's suicide kaboom.

The attack killed 27 members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards travelling on a bus in the volatile southeastern province of Sistan-Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, which straddles the border with Pakistain.

It was claimed by the jihadist outfit Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice).

Iran has provided Pak officials with "information on the terrorist groups' hidden and semi-hidden training centres", army chief-of-staff Mohammad Bagheri told Tasnim news agency.

In a phone call with Mighty Pak Army commanders, Bagheri asked them to "either confront the groups or allow (Iranian) forces to enter."

Islamabad launched an operation against the "terrorists" in its Balochistan border province on Sunday, he said.

Guards commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari has accused The Mighty Pak Army and intelligence agency of sheltering the jihadists.

The foreign ministry said Iran "cannot tolerate" Pakistain's inability to stop cross-border attacks on Iran and said Tehran's frustration had been communicated to Islamabad.

"We hope the Pak government can and wants to prevent such things from happening again," front man Bahram Ghasemi told news hounds on Monday.

The ministry has summoned the Pak ambassador in Tehran and urged Islamabad to "seriously confront... the terrorist groups active on its border" with Iran.

Europe
Syria cannot be Europe's Guantanamo Bay prison
[DW] US President Donald Trump is pressuring Europe to take back its citizens who were captured in Syria while fighting for the Islamic State group. It's high time the continent address the issue.

The message came in typical Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
manner: lacking in style and bordering on extortion. But, like it or not, there is some validity to the United States president's demand that European countries take back their citizens who fought for the Islamic State group (IS) and are currently being held in Kurdish captivity.

Local Kurdish authorities have long been asking that the hundreds of European fighters imprisoned in northern Syria be taken off their hands. That request was intentionally ignored, but now the White House has stepped in.

There are hundreds of detained women from Germany, La Belle France and the United Kingdom who face an uncertain future, for instance ‐ many also have children born in IS territory. And after the fall of the last IS-held position in Baghuz, their numbers are likely to rise even further.

OVERWHELMED KURDS
The prisoners are becoming an overwhelming burden for the Kurdish authorities. That burden is only likely to increase after Trump announced the withdrawal of US military forces in Syria late last year ‐ a move which also brought with it larger existential questions for the persecuted Kurdish minority.

Washington's most important local military partner, the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), is regarded as a terrorist organization by Syria's northern neighbor, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
. Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
wants to quash hopes of Kurdish independence under the YPG in Syria as quickly as possible.

As soon as the US withdrawal clears the way for the Ottoman Turkish military, Erdogan intends to establish a 30-kilometer (18.6-mile) -wide security corridor along the Syrian border. But the most important Kurdish settlements ‐ and also the prison camps ‐ are in this zone. As the Kurds fight for their survival, they certainly have bigger concerns than taking care of their IS prisoners.

When it comes to this issue, Germany has been hiding behind formalities instead of actively seeking a solution, even one that could be addressed on a European level. In the hope that the problem might somehow resolve itself, the German Foreign Ministry retreated to a position of convenience; it says it has not been able to provide consular assistance in Syria since the closure of the embassy in Damascus in 2012, and there are no official diplomatic ties with the Kurds in northern Syria.

NOT WANTED ANYWHERE
Of course, no country really has an interest in accepting dozens of IS fighters, but that does not change the fact that these people still exist and need to be dealt with. And because Germany is a state that operates under the rule of law, its citizens who belonged to a terrorist militia still have rights and, as politically difficult to bear as it may be, this also includes the right of return. Every one of them must be individually proven guilty in order to be convicted.

The bottom line is that these people have come from the very midst of German society. They radicalized here ‐ we have to deal with them. Perhaps there could be room for some creative solutions: What about bringing IS members before the International Criminal Court in The Hague? Regardless, one thing is absolutely certain: Northern Syria cannot remain Europe's Guantanamo.

Swede Fined for Delaying Afghan's Expulsion
[AnNahar] A Gothenburg court on Monday fined a Swedish student activist for delaying a flight due to expel an Afghan asylum seeker, a scene she broadcast live on Facebook.

On July 23, 2018, sociology student Elin Ersson, 21, used her mobile phone to film her one-woman protest on board a Ottoman Turkish Airlines flight from Sweden's second city of Gothenburg to Istanbul.

The images went viral after they were posted on social media.

In contact with members of the family of an Afghan asylum seeker who was to be expelled, Ersson had boarded the flight, armed with a ticket and her passport, with the sole intent of preventing his expulsion.

The Afghan in question turned out not to be on the flight. But another Afghan who was to be deported after serving a prison sentence, was among the passengers.

In tears, Ersson refused to comply with the cabin crew's appeals for her to take her seat.

"I'm not going to sit down until this person is off the plane, because he will most likely get killed," she said in English, applauded by some passengers and booed by others.

The pilot ultimately ordered Ersson removed from the aircraft, as well as the Afghan and his escort.

The Gothenburg court found her guilty of violating air safety regulations, and fined her 3,000 kronor (285 euros, $325).

Both Afghans have since been expelled from Sweden.

Germany preparing to prosecute dozens of IS fighters: report
[DW] Germany has reportedly already issued arrest warrants for ‘Islamic State" fighters being held abroad. Kurdish forces are losing patience with European nations.

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. Authorities have already issued arrest warrants for 18 people, out of the 63 adult German citizens being held in Syria, Iraq, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Greece, according a joint report by newspaper

Suddeutsche Zeitung and public broadcasters NDR and WDR. Including children, the list jumps into three figures.

In total there are 32 preliminary court proceedings against German IS members imprisoned abroad.

GERMANY INVESTIGATING LEGAL OPTIONS
The news came after the US stepped up its demands that Germany and other European nations take back captured turbans being held by Kurds in Syria.

On Monday, German government front man Steffen Seibert said Germany needed to further investigate the danger posed by the detainees and its legal options to prosecute them.

Germany's Interior Ministry said German citizens who have fought with IS have a "fundamental right" to return to the country, but Foreign Minister Heiko Maas told news hounds that the US demand would be "difficult to implement."

"It is certainly not as easy as they think in America," Maas said. "These people can come to Germany only if it is ensured that they can immediately be taken into custody."

Germany has severed ties with the Syrian government and does not recognize the Syrian Kurdish autonomous region, complicating extradition efforts.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said the issue of repatriating imported muscle remained something for each country to deal with on a national level.

The Shammar tribe's militia, the al-Sanadid forces, control swathes of land in north-eastern Syria, close to the Iraqi border. Until recently, they were part of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and at present the Shammar belong to the Kurdish-led civilian leadership in northern Syria.

Former IS members fled the group after hearing the Sheikh’s call to defect. Once accepted by the Sheikh, the detainees are transferred to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), where they are imprisoned and subsequently put on trial. Only then, are they allowed to re-join the tribe.

According to Sheikh Humaydi, the Shammar do not take in former IS fighters. However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
the Shammar communications official Abdulhamid al-Askar contradicted that and claimed al-Sanadid forces have also incorporated former fighters.

In the evening, the Sheikh hosts guests and mediates between local disputes. "This national conflict will end one day, but the religious one will continue," said Sheikh Humaydi. "We have the same goal as the west ‐ the fight against terrorism; now we’re mediating between the former IS fighters, and those who suffered under the group."

Shammar rustics greet guests from Iraq. "There are those [in Syria] who joined IS only because of pressure from their leaders," said Sheikh Humaydi, "and because we have tribal influence, they come back to us."

Once they defect, former IS members blend back into the rural and strictly hierarchical society. Shammar leaders, on the other hand, maneuver to position themselves as crucial peacemakers in the region. According to the Sheikh, British and US delegations have recently paid a visit.

Abu Hassan did not want to reveal his real name for fear of IS reprisals. He claims to have never fought for IS, and only joined the group in 2015 to be able to continue working as a school teacher. "We thought IS would bring justice, as we suffered so much under the [Assad] regime," he said.

Bandar Humaydi, commander of al-Sanadid Forces and the son of Sheikh Humeydi, led a successful defense against IS fighters in 2014/15, when their village was almost completely surrounded by advancing IS forces.

At present, hundreds of IS members have taken the tribal route out, according to the Sheikh, although the exact numbers are not disclosed.

VDH: Autopsy of a Dead Coup
[AmGreatness] The illegal effort to destroy the 2016 Trump campaign by Hillary Clinton campaign’s use of funds to create, disseminate among court media, and then salt among high Obama administration officials, a fabricated, opposition smear dossier failed.

So has the second special prosecutor phase of the coup to abort the Trump presidency failed. There are many elements to what in time likely will become recognized as the greatest scandal in American political history, marking the first occasion in which U.S. government bureaucrats sought to overturn an election and to remove a sitting U.S. president.

Preparing the Battlefield
No palace coup can take place without the perception of popular anger at a president.

The deep state is by nature cowardly. It does not move unless it feels it can disguise its subterranean efforts or that, if revealed, those efforts will be seen as popular and necessary‐as expressed in tell-all book titles such as fired FBI Directors James Comey’s Higher Loyalty or in disgraced Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe’s psychodramatic The Threat.

In candidate and President Trump’s case that prepping of the battlefield translated into a coordinated effort among the media, political progressives and celebrities to so demonize Trump that his imminent removal likely would appear a relief to the people. Anything was justified that led to that end.

All through the 2016 campaign and during the first two years of the Trump presidency the media’s treatment, according to liberal adjudicators of press coverage, ran about 90 percent negative toward Trump‐a landmark bias that continues today.
Continues.

Sahiwal killings: Khalil’s brother to appear in court for judicial inquiry today
[DAWN] SAHIWAL: Muhammad Jalil, the complainant and brother of Sahiwal incident victim Muhammad Khalil, will appear before the court of Senior Civil Judge Shakeel Ahmed Goraya at the District Courts today (Monday) regarding a judicial inquiry related to Sahiwal killings.

This is first time that he will come to Sahiwal for recording his statement about the controversial killings of his brother and his family members and a family friend, Zeeshan, by the officials of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) near Qadirabad on Jan 19.

Mr Jalil stated this while talking to Dawn on phone on Sunday.

It is learnt that on the repeated requests of Jalil and Zeeshan’s families Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim had ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident and appointed Senior Civil Judge Shakeel Goraya for the said job.

Mr Jalil confirmed that he had received a court letter and would appear before the judge. He categorically stated he was not meeting any members of joint investigation team (JIT) formed by the Punjab

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Police or appearing before it. He said the family had shown dissatisfaction with ongoing JIT investigations under Additional DIG Ijaz Hussain Shah.

The District Court sources confirmed that the senior civil judge had issued notices to all parties regarding proceedings of the judicial inquiry.

While replying a question, Mr Jalil said he had no knowledge whether any member of Zeeshan’s family would appear for the judicial inquiry at Sahiwal or not.

It is important to note that Zeeshan’s mother and brother while appearing before Senate Standing Committee had denied Punjab Police’s claim that Zeeshan was a terrorist and he had links with operation held in Faisalabad

two days before the Sahiwal incident.

On other hand, JIT head Ijaz Shah visited Sahiwal on Sunday to chair a second meeting of the JIT at Police Rest House, Police Lines, which was attended by all the team members.

A source close to the situation told Dawn that the JIT head had finalised two major tasks, i.e. completing challans of six CTD officials who were jugged

in connection with Sahiwal killings and completion of the report going to be presented to Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Feb 19.

The local Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) had sent six CTD officials on 15 days judicial remand which would end on Feb 21.

It is learnt the JIT head also interrogated six arrested CTD officials before finalising the report to be presented to CM.

Qureshi asks UN chief to play role for 'de-escalation' after Indian rhetoric on Pulwama attack
[DAWN] Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi on Monday said he had written a letter to the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
secretary general, requesting him to play his role for the "de-escalation" of current tensions which were caused by Indian government's rhetoric against Pakistain in the wake of the Pulwama attack.

Speaking during a talk show on ARY News, Qureshi said he had in his letter raised concerns over the "negative tactics" used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government ahead of the elections in India.

He said he had cautioned the secretary-general about India's efforts to flare up tensions in the region and their possible consequences.

Weeks before the attack in Indian occupied Kashmire, Qureshi said, the Pakistain Foreign Office had informed the envoys of P5 countries that Islamabad feared that India would create a "Pakistain-bashing atmosphere" ahead of its elections and could "resort to some misadventure" in order to galvanise the holy warrior Hindu vote.

He said Pakistain's response in the face of Indian rhetoric had been "measured, mature and full of restraint".

The minister asked India to present "actionable evidence" of involvement of Pakistain-based groups in the Pulwama attack, if it had any, and assured that Pakistain would honestly investigate the same.

Tensions between India and Pakistain are once again running high following last week's bad boy attack in Pulwama.

Over 40 Indian paramilitary troops were killed in the attack, which has been claimed by the Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
, a proscribed organization. India has alleged that those who planned the attacks had links with the Pak state ‐ a charge that Pakistain has vigorously denied. Shortly after the attack, Pakistain's FO had condemned the attack, saying that it was "a matter of grave concern".

Britain
Shamima Begum warned: 'If you back terror, there must be consequences'
[SkyNews] Home Secretary Sajid Javid has warned Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
recruit Shamima Begum of "consequences" as she bids to return to Britannia.

The 19-year-old, who has just given birth to a baby boy in a Syrian refugee camp, wants to return to the UK having fled to join the terror group in 2015.

Answering an urgent question in the House of Commons on Monday, Mr Javid admitted the UK could not prevent the return of British citizens, as international law does not allow governments to make people stateless.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
he said the Commons "will have seen the comments of Shamima Begum in the media and it will have to draw its own conclusions".

He added: "Quite simply: If you back terror, there must be consequences."

Mr Javid said the government "cannot ignore the threat" of those who left Britannia to travel to Syria or Iraq, with more than 350 having returned and a similar number still believed to be in the Middle East.

He revealed an estimated 900 people left the UK to join terror groups in Syria and Iraq, with 20% having since been killed in battle, 40% having returned, and 40% still somewhere in the region.

MORE FROM SAJID JAVID
"Whatever role they took in the so-called caliphate, they all supported a terrorist organization and in doing so they have shown they hate our country and the values we stand for," he said.

"This is a death cult that enslaved and raped thousands of Yazidi girls and celebrated attacks on our shores, including the tragic Manchester bombing that targeted maiden of tender yearss."

Mr Javid told MPs, now that IS is "crumbling", some of their recruits want to return to the UK.

"I have been very clear, where I can and where any threat remains I will not hesitate to prevent this," he said.

The home secretary revealed more than 100 people have been barred from entering Britannia due to their status as foreigners, or by having their British citizenship stripped if they are dual nationals.

But, he highlighted how international law does not allow the UK to remove citizenship from those who are only British nationals.

Yet, Mr Javid vowed that "where individuals do manage to return, they will be questioned, investigated and potentially prosecuted".

Former defence secretary Sir Michael Fallon spoke of the need to avoid British or other nationals "ending up in a new Guantanamo".

"There may need to be an international agreement about how these cases are to be handled and perhaps even an international terrorist court to make sure they are properly prosecuted," he said.

Mr Javid assured his ex-cabinet colleague the UK is "working closely" with the US and European nations "to see what more we can do to make sure in every case justice is done and where possible justice is done in the region".

The home secretary also told MPs he believes a suggested updating of ancient treason laws to deal with returning IS recruits is "worth looking at carefully".

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
Mr Javid stressed new legislation recently introduced had created "new powers to prosecute returnees", extended the list of offences committed overseas that action can be taken on, and created new laws to ban British citizens from entering designated terrorist hotspots without any good reason.

In an interview with Sky News from the Syrian refugee camp, Shamima Begum said she was "just a housewife" during her time with IS.

She married a young Dutch fighter called Yago Riedijk three weeks after she arrived in Syria.

She admitted she was aware of beheadings and executions being carried out by the holy warriors but said she was "okay with it", because she had heard "Islamically that is allowed".

Flawed foreign policy leading country to isolation: Fazl
[DAWN] Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spends more time running his madrassah. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...

government is leading the country to isolation in the comity of nations, while its economic policy is increasing poverty and indigence in the country making life harder for the poor.

Addressing the ’million march rally’ organised by JUI-F here on Sunday, he came down hard on the PTI government and warned the rulers that any move to rollback the 18th Amendment and recognise Israel would be disastrous for the country.

Criticising the government for its failure to improve the economy despite tall claims during the election campaign, the chief of his own faction of JUI said poverty was on the steep rise with the result that life was becoming harder for the poor.

"Those who were claiming to change the very fate of the poor and bringing about revolutionary changes in their lives have now come up with hens and eggs and forgot and consigned to oblivion their glittering promises," he said

Mr Rehman alleged that the government was conspiring to amend the law that had declared the Ahmadis as a minority and the chain of events and the stance of the government had proved it beyond any shadow of doubt that the rulers were with the enemies of Islam.

"The government is guilty of conspiring to alter the blasphemy law, setting blasphemers free and playing to western tunes, and it was due to this reason that a former elected prime minister and politicians of the parties were sent to jail before the election," he continued.

The JUI-F chief said his party would not allow the implementation of any foreign agenda contrary to the teachings of Islam and that his party supporters would not hesitate to render any sacrifice for upholding Khatam-e-Nabuwwat.

The JUI-F chief accused the PTI of stealing the public mandate, alleging that the last general elections were rigged in favour of Imran Khan

Regarding the Aasia Bibi case, he said it was not the legality of arrest or release of the Christian woman that was bothering the nation, but her release "under a deal" with the west.

He insisted that the PTI supported and appreciated NAB when it jugged

the opposition leaders but started criticising the accountability watchdog when it began investigations against Imran Khan’s sister and Aleem Khan.

He announced that the next protest would be held on Feb 24 in Badin district of Sindh province and on Feb 28 at Nasirabad in Balocistan province.

MMA leaders Mufti Kifayatullah, Maulana Shah Awais Norani, Rashid Mehmood Sumro, Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai, Akram Khan Durrani, Maulana Amanat Shah, Maulana Shuja-ul-Mulk, Abdul Ghafoor Haderi, and other leaders also addressed the ’million march’.

Iraq
Why are trucks from Duhok still prevented from entering Nineveh?
[Rudaw] Despite the removal of customs points between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq's provinces and the unification of customs offices between Erbil and Baghdad, trucks in Duhok carrying goods and services still are barred from driving to djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
After several meetings between the Iraqi federal and Kurdistan regional governments’ customs departments, both sides have agreed to apply a single customs policy at border crossings and airports across Iraq ‐ including the Kurdistan Region.

The agreement officially took effect on Sunday, but Nineveh authorities are not allowing trucks to enter Mosul.

"Two months ago, the Iraqi finance ministry decided for the customs points between Duhok and Mosul to be removed, but it was not implemented as they wanted to weaken the Ibrahim Khalil crossing. And this time, though the decision has been made for three days now, they do not implement it," said Izzat Fatah, the head of the Duhok Customs Department.

Ibrahim Khalil is the only official crossing between Iraq and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
. It is under the control of the Kurdistan Regional Government and its security forces.

"Though all the employees have left the Duhok-Mosul customs point, trucks are not allowed to transport goods and services into Mosul," Fatah added, explaining "more than 3,000 trucks [now] are queued at the Badrike customs point."

Former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, who was also acting as finance minister, established three customs points between the Kurdistan Region and elsewhere in Iraq. They have since "officially" been removed and deemed illegal by the Iraqi parliament.

Corruption has been rampant in successive Iraqi governments across the country.

"Some security officials in Mosul were capitalizing on this customs point. Now that the decision has been made that no items are subject to tariffs, they do not allow any goods into Mosul on the pretext that they do not have the necessary tools to inspect commodities."

Nineveh and Anbar provinces are particularly war-torn. At the same time as they are being rebuilt, officials are concerned of an ISIS resurgence or evolution.

The bulk of the disputed areas went under federal control in October 2017. The Erbil-Kirkuk-Sulaimani road was closed for months and high tariffs were introduced when it finally reopened.

Iraq is highly in debt and any cost barriers hinder rebuilding a country fractured by cycles of conflict.

SLS costs
Note typo of omitting the word million on the 2018-19 budgets so $4.093 billion in 2019 and $4.045 billion in 2018.
SLS is the giant NASA rocket that will be outperformed by the new SpaceX and Blue Origin rockets. Cost assumed to be $1.5 billion per rocket but a guess as none yet launched. Orion is NASA's Deep Space (moon) space ship. It is not clear if one has yet been completed. Also, note that the yearly costs of either rocket tech-welfare program would pay for Trump's wall.

Saudi minister calls out Iran for 'accusing others' while being 'world's chief sponsor of terrorism'
[DAWN] Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed al-Jubeir on Monday accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism for decades, saying it was "strange [for] the foreign minister of the world's chief sponsor of terrorism to accuse others of engaging in terrorist activities".

The minister, who is part of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman's visiting delegation, was addressing a joint presser with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi in Islamabad.

When asked about Tehran's recent allegations that held Pakistain responsible for an attack that killed more than 20 members of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Qureshi said that he had assured Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif that Pakistain would "never condone [any terrorist] activity".

"We have always condemned such activity. Iran is our neighbour and we would never cause any problem for them," Qureshi said. "We respect their illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity and I'm sure they respect ours."

He said that Pakistain would be "helpful" if Iran comes forward with any evidence. He recalled that Pakistain had cooperated with Iran in the past to "overcome these difficulties".

The Saudi minister, meanwhile, questioned how Iran ‐ which he called "the world's chief sponsor of terrorism" ‐ could accuse others of engaging in terrorist activities.

He accused Iran of "sponsoring" terrorism "since the Iranian revolution of 1979", adding that Iran had "established terrorist groups such as Hezbollah in Leb and Houthis in Yemen. He said that "Iran had been implicated" in terrorist attacks that took place in other countries, including Soddy Arabia

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Is A Batch Of Russia's Most Advanced Surface To Air Missiles Sitting On The Sea Floor?
[TheDrive] Russia has confirmed that it did indeed sell long-range 40N6 surface-to-air missiles to China as part of a sale of S-400 surface-to-air missile systems. At the same time, the Russians have revealed that none of those interceptors ever reached their destination after the ship carrying them got caught in a storm that resulted in the loss of the entire shipment, possibly with some of the missiles physically going overboard into the sea.
...
Ship spotters noted that the Nikifor Begichev, a general-purpose cargo ship heading for China from the Russian port of Ust Luga in the Gulf of Finland, experienced unspecified trouble with cargo on its open deck after running into a storm in or around the English Channel. On Jan. 3, 2019, it turned around and subsequently returned to port.

Two days later, the Ocean Power, a roll-on/roll-off cargo ship known to be involved in Russian arms shipments, also made an abrupt turn around in the Baltic Sea. It then sailed back to the port of Koskolovo, also in Russia in the Gulf of Finland.
...
If there are containers full of 40N6s sitting on the bottom of the sea, they could be goldmines for Western intelligence services ‐ if they can recover the interceptors or at least parts of them. The U.S. Navy, in particular, has extensive deep-sea salvage and intelligence-collecting capabilities, including the specially modified Seawolf-class submarine USS Jimmy Carter.
Is a "batch" missing one or two still a batch?

NFL - One Step Down from a Dumpster Fire
[BaltimoreSun] A man died after being engulfed in flames and running from a portable toilet that was also on fire in the parking lot of M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Sunday afternoon.

Police said on Monday that the incident did not appear to be criminal in nature. A fire department spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment Monday.

The man was seen, running and on fire, by a security guard for M&T Bank Stadium around 3 p.m., according to Blair Skinner, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore Fire Department, said Sunday. By the time medics arrived, the man was dead and three portable toilets were on fire. It wasn’t clear how long he had been in the toilet or what had caused the fire. Skinner said arson teams with the Baltimore Police Department would be investigating.

Religious teacher arrested in Wah for attempting to rape minor girl
[DAWN] A religious teacher was incarcerated
You have the right to remain silent...
in Wah Cantonment on Monday for attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl who used to come to his house to learn the Holy Koran, police said.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) of the case registered on the victim's father's complaint, the victim used to visit the residence of a female Koran teacher in their neighbourhood to study the holy book.

The father stated in the complaint that on February 16, 2019, his daughter went to the Koran teacher's house after Fajr (morning) prayers. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
she came running back home after a short while and started weeping.

Read: I was sexually abused and discovered my friends were too

Frightened and shaken, the minor girl did not initially describe her ordeal. But after about 30 minutes, according to her father, she revealed that the brother of her Koran teacher ‐ who also tutored students on the holy book ‐ had tried to sexually assault her.

The suspect had let the victim go after she started screaming, but threatened to kill her if she described the incident to anyone, according to the FIR.

The father revealed that when his wife went to the suspect's house after learning about the incident, other women from the area gathered there as well. They claimed that the suspect had assaulted their sons and daughters as well, but they had previously kept mum about it.

Station House Officer Wah Saddar Raja Aizaz Azeem told DawnNewsTV that the suspect was previously booked in 2016 for attempting to sexually assault a minor girl.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
despite serving jail time in the previous case, the suspect had persisted in attempts to sexually abuse other minor girls, the SHO added.

The suspect has been arrested and a case was registered against him under Sections 376 (rape) and 511 (attempt to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or for a shorter term).

Amazon’s exit could scare off tech companies from New York
[DAWN] Amazon jilted New York City on Valentine’s Day, scrapping plans to build a massive headquarters campus in Queens amid fierce opposition from politicians angry about nearly $3 billion in tax breaks and the company’s anti-union stance.

With millions of jobs and a bustling economy, New York can withstand the blow, but experts say the decision by the e-commerce giant to walk away and take with it 25,000 promised jobs could scare off other companies considering moving to or expanding in the city, which wants to be seen as the Silicon Valley of the East Coast.

"One of the real risks here is the message we send to companies that want to come to New York and expand to New York," said Julie Samuels, the executive director of industry group Tech: NYC. "We’re really playing with fire right now." In November, Amazon selected New York City and Crystal City, Virginia, as the winners of a secretive, yearlong process in which more than 230 North American cities bid to become the home of the Seattle-based company’s second headquarters.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Sonny Cuomo heralded the city’s selection at the time as the biggest boon yet to its burgeoning tech economy and underscored that the deal would generate billions of dollars for improving transit, schools and housing.

Iván Duque improves his image by standing firm against Maduro
[ELUNIVERSAL] The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, stood at 42.7% regarding the favorable perception of Colombian citizens towards him, this happened as a result of his firm policy against the government of Nicolás Maduro and the army guerrilla of National Liberation (ELN), according to a survey.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
50.4% of Colombians still disapprove of their management, indicated the firm Invamer in the study contracted by several media outlets.

The rejection of the head of state went from 64.8% in November to 50.4% in February, while support jumped from 27.2% three months ago to 42.7% in the current period, AFP reported.

The change in their indicators was due to the "firm attitude" towards the Maduro government in Venezuela, said Semana magazine , one of the media that published the survey.

Double attack in Syrian city of Idlib leaves at least 24 dead
[ELUNIVERSAL] At least 24 people, including 16 civilians, died Monday in a double attack in the city of Idlib, dominated by the jihadist organization Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), in north-western Syria, the Syrian Observatory said. Human Rights (OSDH).

Among the 24 people killed there are four children, according to the latest balance provided by the director of the OSDH, Rami Abdel Rahmane. Four fighters also died in the explosions , AFP reported.

HTS, an alliance dominated by the former Syrian branch of Al Qaeda, controls the Idlib region, where rebels and dormant cells of the self-styled jihadist Islamic State (ISIS) group are also present.

For the moment no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which left at least 51 injured , according to the latest balance of the OSDH.

First a concealed bomb exploded under a car in Idlib, the OSDH said.

Then, "when people gathered in the place and the ambulances arrived," a motorcycle bomb exploded, he added.

In the first assessment, OSDH director Rami Abdel Rahman had indicated that among the victims 10 were civilians.

The attack took place in a street where the local council is administered by the "Salvation Government", the institution that the HTS created to govern the province, he explained.

The province of Idlib passed under the control of HTS on January 11, after fighting that lasted several days against a rebel alliance.

On Saturday, the OSDH reported that 18 civilians, including eight children, were killed in bombings carried out by the Syrian government's artillery.

ATC rejects TLP chief Khadim Rizvi's request for bail
[DAWN] An anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Monday rejected Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistain (TLP) chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi's request for bail in a case lodged against him for launching a violent protest against the acquittal of Aasia Bibi.

Tehrik-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) chief Pir Afzal Qadri's request for bail was also rejected by the ATC.

Civil Lines police had registered a FIR under sections 290/291/353/427/186/188 of Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) and section 6 of the Sound System Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Ordinance 2015 against Rizvi and other leaders of the TLP for protests after Aasia Bibi was acquitted by the Supreme Court in October last year. Section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 was later added to the FIR.

Rizvi was presented before the judge in ATC-IV amid tight security. His lawyer argued in court that a suitable environment be provided for the betterment of his client's health.

Rizvi's counsel had stated in the bail petition that the provision of the ATA was falsely included in the case. The lawyer had argued in the petition that the FIR was altered and fabricated and claimed that the petitioner and others accused had not committed any offences against the state, but had been politically victimised.

He had argued that the investigation had been completed by police and keeping Rizvi behind bars would serve no purpose.

The counsel had also stated that Rizvi had been imprisoned since his Nov 23 arrest and it was causing him health issues due to his disability. He requested the court to grant Rizvi bail.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the request for bail.

3 Kashmiris, 4 Indian soldiers killed in Pulwama gunbattle: reports
The Pakistani view of yesterday’s story, which named Jaish-e-Mohammad as the culprit..
[DAWN] Four Indian soldiers and three Kashmiris were killed on Monday morning during a fierce gunbattle in occupied Kashmire’s Pulwama district, where a jacket wallah killed at least 41 Indian paramilitaries last week.

Indian forces have launched a massive hunt for Kashmiri fighters in parts of Indian Kashmiree since Thursday, when an explosives-packed van rammed into a convoy transporting 2,500 security forces in the deadliest attack in Kashmire in 30 years.

Fighting erupted early on Monday after government forces surrounded a village in Pulwama on a tip that Kashmiri fighters were hiding there, security officials said. As troops began conducting searches they came under heavy gunfire, leading to fatalities, police claimed.

Local residents said that Indian troops had destroyed a civilian's house using explosives during the fighting, and Indian police claimed to have recovered the bodies of two Kashmiri fighters from the debris. A civilian was also killed in the crossfire, police added.

Four soldiers were killed in a shootout during the search operation, while another was injured and reported to be at death's door, according to an Indian police official speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity.

The fighting triggered anti-India protests and festivities in the village, with local residents ─ mainly youths ─ trying to march to the site of the gunbattle in solidarity with the Kashmiri fighters. Government forces fired tear gas at stone-throwing protesters. No one was immediately reported injured in the festivities.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea may try to emulate Vietnamese economic reform
Oh my goodness, that would be wonderful!
[DAWN] North Korea, which suffers from poverty and isolation partly due to international sanctions imposed against the country for its nuclear and missile tests, has proclaimed a shift in national focus from nuclear weapons development to economic development.

"North Korea has done a lot of case studies on economic development plans that brought rapid growth to other countries. Vietnam is one of them. Its biggest concern is how to open its doors with Kim’s regime remaining intact. In other words, how to control its people while allowing them to set up private businesses," Kim Young-hui, a North Korean defector and senior research fellow at the state-run Korea Development Bank, told The Korea Herald.

Pyongyang’s willingness to borrow economic development ideas from Hanoi is no secret. During the inter-Korean summit in April last year, Chairman Kim reportedly expressed interest in emulating the reform model to South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho visited Hanoi at the end of November 2018 to study the Doi Moi Policy, an economic reform policy Vietnam adopted in 1986 after realising its socialist model was about to collapse. The inflation rate had skyrocketed to 700 per cent due to US-led trade embargoes as well as poor access to reconstruction aid after prolonged wars with Cambodia and the United States.

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) ‐ As many as 12 Iraqi people, including five coppers, were kidnapped on Monday by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....

Two police officers killed in attack on the Colombian border with Venezuela
[ELUNIVERSAL] On Monday two uniformed dead were the result of an attack on a police post on the border of Colombia and Venezuela, according to authorities the action was perpetrated by two gunnies who entered Venezuelan territory.

The assailants rubbed out Customs coppers and maimed a vigilante , according to AFP.

The attack took place in a border bridge that joins the city of Arauca with Venezuelan territory.

The police said the attackers "crossed the river on foot" bordering to commit the attack, which cost the life of the patrolman Jeison Bejarano, 26, and Oscar Alberto Gonzalez, 28.

Until now they have not blamed any gang as responsible, however the governor of the department of Arauca, Ricardo Alvarado, pointed out that they would be members of organizations operating from Venezuela.

"There are groups (armed) that do not operate within the territory (Colombian) and I can not go out to cross the river," the president told Blu Radio.

In Arauca, commandos of the National Liberation Army (ELN) operate, the last active guerrilla group recognized in Colombia, as well as dissidents of the now defunct rebel organization FARC.

Supported by military intelligence reports, the Colombian government denounced that the ELN takes refuge on the Venezuelan side of a border punished by smuggling and drug trafficking.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
SDF commander calls for 1,500 coalition troops to remain in Syria
[Rudaw] Mazloum Kobani, commander-in-chief of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), called on international coalition allies to keep 1,000-1,500 troops in Syria.

His call comes as the US prepares to withdraw its 2,000 troops from northeast Syria once the last ISIS holdout is liberated in Deir ez-Zor. La Belle France has already pledged to maintain a troop presence.

"We would like to have air cover, air support and a force on the ground to coordinate with us," Kobani told news hounds at an undisclosed airbase in northeast Syria, Rooters reports.

The SDF fears it will be left vulnerable to attack by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and ISIS could reemerge if coalition forces pull out.

Kobani earlier held talks with senior US military officials.

Joseph Votel, head of US Army Central Command, said there is no change of plan regarding the complete US withdrawal ordered by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
"The discussion really isn’t about US forces staying here. We’ve looked at potentially what coalition (forces) might be able to do here," Votel told news hounds, according to Rooters.

ISIS holds a shrinking area of territory in eastern Syria. An announcement declaring its territorial defeat is expected within days.

Foreign ownership of thousands of U.S. aircraft cloaked in secrecy
[WFAA] Onalaska, Texas, has a secret.

Nestled along the piney shores of an East Texas lake, Onalaska lacks an airport.

A WFAA review, however, has found more than 1,000 registered aircraft claiming an Onalaska address. That’s equivalent to one plane for every three Onalaska residents, which is more per capita than anywhere else in the country. In fact, more planes are registered to Onalaska than the number of registered planes in entire cities such as Seattle, San Antonio, San Diego, or even New York.
