Chicago records bloodiest Memorial Day weekend in 5 years: At least 50 shot, 9 dead
[FoxNews] More than 50 people were shot in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend, including nine fatally, according to police.

Roughly half of the shootings took place on the city's West Side, while the downtown area saw four people shot, according to authorities. There were at least 23 people victims on the city's South Side.

By Monday morning, the number of victims surpassed the number of victims for all of 2021's Memorial Day shootings, when 37 were shot including three fatally, NBC Chicago reported. All in, 51 people were shot over the long holiday weekend.

It was the most bloody Memorial Day weekend for the city since 2017, when 45 people were wounded and seven killed, the Chicago Sun Times reported.

Chicago was braced for a violent weekend and had rolled out Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Police Superintendent David Brown's holiday safety plan, which included officers working 21-hour days and canceled days off to get more officers on the street.

#7  A lot of decent folks live within the 'gang areas', Darth. Impossible for some to leave as the property they bought in the 60's-80's doesn't sell for some reason, even with the barred windows and doors.

Mostly they live towards the back of their residences, avoiding the rooms facing the street.

Considering they still vote for the same people that allow and help this shit fester, I don't have a lot of sympathy for them. At this point they chose their side and they chose poorly.

#11  Understood, Darth. Unfortunately the voting in a lot of these neighborhoods is a selection between 'machine' candidates and any conservative need not apply as they'd somehow never get on the ballot (or get their votes counted). It's the 'Chicago Way'.

A guy I worked with (and fished with) for years lives in a north Austin neighborhood, and his area used to be fairly decent. No longer.

Recently helped him find some #4 and 00 for his Model 12 (as was almost impossible to find in Chicago area, gun/ammo control and all that).

He's waiting for his wife to retire and then they'll move on. Doesn't care about what the house sells for (or if at all - except for the taxes) at this point.

#13  Then there will be shootings at the funerals and the violence will echo out like waves in a pond from a thrown stone.
The only possible way to make things worse in Chicago would be to involve the UN or Palestinian Authority. I don’t think the shootings would go up but the UN would probably increase trafficking. The PA might start paying stipends to the families of drug dealers shot by other drug dealers. The city would go broke quickly.

California to unveil groundbreaking slave reparations report
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California’s first-in-the-nation task force on reparations for African Americans will release a report Wednesday documenting in detail the harms perpetuated by the state and recommending steps to address those wrongs, including expanded voter registration, making it easier to hold violent police accountable and improving Black neighborhoods.

It also recommends the creation of a special office that would, in part, help African Americans descended from free or enslaved Black people in the country at the end of the 19th century document their eligibility for financial restitution.

The report, which runs 500 pages, will be the first government-commissioned study on harms against the African American community since the 1968 Kerner Commission report ordered by then-President Lyndon Johnson, task force Chair Kamilah Moore said.

"I hope that this report is used not only as an educational tool, but an organizing tool for people not only in California but across the U.S. to educate their communities," she said, adding that the report also highlights "contributions of the African American community and how they made the United States what it is despite ongoing oppression and degradation."

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation creating the task force in 2020, making California the only state to move ahead with a study and plan. Cities and universities are taking up the cause with the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Illinois, becoming the first U.S. city to make reparations available to Black residents last year.

#2  They have one large memory hole out there. Before the Constitution was ratified the former colonies, now independent states, operated under the Articles of Confederation. It was under that governmental structure that the Northwest Ordnance of 1787 was passed. It organized the western territories in which the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin would emerge. It barred the introduction of slavery into the new territories. It's all one big grifters game.

Naturally ---->Just in time for Mid-terms <------

How about a report that details what has been spent the last 60 years attempting to right the wrongs of the 150 years previous to 1962? With estimates ranging from $7.2T to $11.2 Trillion. For the 9,360,000+/- (19.5%) Black Americans living below the US Proverty Rate With works out to something between $769,230.76 to $1,196,581.19 per man, women and child alive to date in the Black community.

How about a report detailing the 81% success rate?

How about the 100's of $$$ BILLIONS in private property lost in riots/looting?

How about a detailed crime report showing Black against White/Latino/Asians and on and on. Which in some Serious Felony categories runs 4 and 5 to 1.

How about a 72% single mother with multiple children and fathers family with no male partner present. Being cared for by Taxpayers.

How about a report showing preferred hiring or admissions over more qualified candidates students?

There is a lot more the LSD's don't want to discuss also.

Chicago High School to Implement Race-Based Grading System
[Breitbart] A high school in a Chicago is implementing a race-based grading system "to adjust classroom grading scales to account for skin color or ethnicity of its students."

The move is necessary, advocates say, because "traditional grading practices perpetuate inequities," a slide used in a presentation said.

Students, depending on their race, will not be held accountable for missing class, misbehaving in school, or for failing to turn in assignments.

The West Cook News reported on the development:
Oak Park and River Forest High School (OPRF) administrators will require teachers next school year to adjust their classroom grading scales to account for the skin color or ethnicity of its students.

School board members discussed the plan called "Transformative Education Professional Development & Grading" at a meeting on May 26, presented by Assistant Superintendent for Student Learning Laurie Fiorenza.

[The plan] calls for what OPRF leaders describe as "competency-based grading, eliminating zeros from the grade book...encouraging and rewarding growth over time." Teachers are being instructed how to measure student "growth" while keeping the school leaders’ political ideology in mind
.
"Teachers and administrators at OPRFHS will continue the process necessary to make grading improvements that reflect our core beliefs," the plan, set to begin in the fall of 2023, says.

The article notes that according to the Illinois State Board of Education, 38 percent of sophomores fail the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

The failure rate was 77 percent for black students, 49 percent for Hispanic students, 27 percent for Asian students, and 25 percent for white students.

I took four years of German in high school; Mrs. Hartmann was an excellent teacher, so last Labor Day weekend I tracked her down and paid her a visit, to thank her and to tell her what an awesome teacher she was. Back in the late 70's and early 80's if a student wasn't doing well, they usually got the proverbial kick in the ass; this happened to me then and in college a few years later. Mrs. Hartmann retired in 2001 and told me the dynamic had changed; if a student wasn't doing well, it's now the teacher's fault, not the student's fault. I got the impression Mrs. Hartmann would have kept on teaching for a few more years if it weren't for this new 'dynamic'.

#7  It will temporarily screw over the two remaking white families that have not moved, homeschooled or put their kids in private schools. Air Force Base Cancels Drag Queen Story Hour Event After Public Outcry
[Daily Wire] A drag queen story hour for children that was reportedly supposed to be held at an American air base library was canceled following public outcry about the nature of the event.

The 30-minute storytime with books read by drag queen Stacey Teed was to be held at a library in Ramstein, Germany, where the headquarters of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe is located.

"An advertisement was posted to the base library social media page before the event had completed Ramstein’s established processes for special observance coordination and approval," Lt. Col. Will Powell, head of public affairs for the 86th Airlift Wing, said, according to The Military Times. "The advertisement has been removed and the event will not take place."

The cancellation followed backlash from Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who sent a letter to U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall on May 26, asking officials to stop the event.

"I urge you to immediately cancel this politically divisive event, and take appropriate disciplinary action against all involved in allowing this gross abuse of taxpayer funding to place children in a sexualized environment," Rubio wrote in his letter.

He added that it was "insane" for the military to be using resources to promote the event.

"These inappropriate events are extremely divisive at home for good reason; in all cases, they place young children in close proximity with adults who are intentionally and explicitly sexualized," the senator added.

He also asked for details about other instances of the U.S. military sponsoring events for children with drag queens and if money has been spent on such events.

President of Spanish Pharma Company on List of over 2,200 People with Faked Vaccine Papers
[Breitbart] The president of the Spanish pharmaceutical company PharmaMar is one of the over 2,200 people listed by Spanish police as having purchased fake coronavirus vaccination documents.

José María Fernández Sousa-Faro, the founder and president of PharmaMar, is one of the over 2,200 people identified as having paid a criminal network to fake their coronavirus vaccination status, following a Spanish police operation known as Operation Jenner.

The 76-year-old was shown in the vaccine registry as having taken at least three doses of Wuhan virus vaccine, investigators stated.

Police say several other high profile names are on the list, including Australian tennis player Álex de Miñaur and Spanish musician Omar Montes.

Police say that the network was able to change vaccine statuses in the Spanish National Vaccination Registry and charged clients cash for the service, the newspaper El Mundo reports.

Fake European Coronavirus Vaccine Passport Sales Surging Online https://t.co/SF8Oe7N7kC

— Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) December 3, 2021

According to police, the network facilitating the fake vaccination papers was in operation from around September of last year until January of this year. Operation Jenner also led to the dismantling of a broader network that operated across the European Union.

Forgers are said to have charged different amounts of cash for their service depending on how many doses the person wished to be marked as having received. A total of 15 people, including a nurse and a nursing assistant, were arrested earlier this year in connection with the operation.

The nurses are accused of having stolen the personal access codes of other medical professionals and used said access codes to commit fraudulent activities.

Over the course of the Wuhan virus pandemic, there have been multiple networks offering fake vaccination documents, as many countries enacted health passport systems requiring vaccinations, proof of recent recovery, or negative tests to access venues, use transportation, or simply be allowed to work.

In December, Italian police claimed the number of fake coronavirus vaccination documents being sold online had surged and warned medical professionals, including doctors, may have been involved in faking people’s vaccination status.

Italian police officer Fabio Ferrari commented at the time on other issues arising from the sale of the fake documents, saying: "What people don’t realise is that they hand over their ID and patient documents to rogue individuals and that this information is then resold."

Another questions:
Why is it we have had and increase in Mass School Shootings during Election cycles the last 50+ years?

Why is it the Police have been told to stand down in too many of these, while the shooter empties mag after mag?

Given the clearly mindless Biden politically picked leadership controlling the DOJ/FBI agencies. Can we ever expect to get to the root of whom is actually involved in these politically timed events?

n forces shelled a city in northern Æthiopia last weekend, according to UN and regional forces, as a result of a rare bombing after two months of relative peace in the Tigray conflict.

The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
bulletin, which was viewed by Rooters, cites data from humanitarian organizations in Shiraro, which say at least 23 rounds were fired, some of which ended up in a school that houses the families of displaced persons.

A 14-year-old girl was killed, at least 18 people were maimed, and 12 houses were damaged, one of the documents says.

Late Monday, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigray (TPLF), the party that controls most of the Tigray region, accused Eritrean forces of attacking its troops on Saturday and Sunday in Shiraro, about seven miles from the Eritrean-Æthiopian border.

Eritrea recently supports Æthiopian Prime Minister Abio Ahmed’s federal forces in the war with TPLF

The TPLF said its forces killed four Eritrean commanders and more than 300 Eritrean soldiers in a kaboom over the weekend.

Eritrean Information Minister Yeman Gebremeskel did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and Rooters was unable to verify the figures or the attack on its own.

The Tigray communication network has not been working for a year.

"As part of a desperate attempt to escalate tensions and draw us into more action, they fired on Sheraro on May 28 and 29," TPLF front man Getachy Redu tweeted.

A front man for Æthiopia’s military envoy, Colonel Getnet Adan, and government front man Leges Tulu did not respond to a request for comment.

Eritrean and Æthiopian troops withdrew from most of the Tigris in mid-2021, and in March the government announced a unilateral ceasefire. This allowed aid to enter the famine-stricken Tiger and led to a lull in hostilities in the conflict, which killed thousands of civilians and snatched millions.

Earlier this year, however, Eritrean President Isaiah Afwerki told state media that his troops would intervene again if Tigrian forces attacked his country or threatened Æthiopia’s stability.

Tigray forces foil Eritrean troops attack, kill hundreds - spokesman
Checking in to see what nonsense is going on in Ethiopia now. Honestly, do none of these people have anything better to do?
[Garowe] The Tigray Defense Forces [TDF] reportedly killed hundreds of Eritrea

n soldiers during a counteroffensive, which if independently verified, would be the worst defeat to President Isaias Afwerki, who has been accused of meddling in the Tigray conflict.

For months, Eritrea has been linked to atrocities in the Tigray region where thousands of civilians and local militia have reportedly been killed. Eritrea works closely with the regime of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who is the architect of the current war.

Getachew Reda, the official spokesperson of TDF and the Tigray administration claimed the Tigray troops responded to an attack engineered by Eritrea troops on May 24th, leading to hundreds of deaths. The troops from Eritrea's 57th and 21st divisions allegedly took part in the fight.

The incident reportedly took place near Adi Awalla village within Tigray and at least 300 Eritrean troops were killed during the offensive which is yet to be verified independently. Several weapons were captured by the Tigrayan forces, he added.

"An offensive launched by Eritrea’s 57th and 21st divisions on the 24th of May was thwarted and the units deployed by the Isaias regime decimated after a successful counteroffensive by our forces around AdiAwalla, Tigray. A brigade commander, three battalion commanders, and more than 300 soldiers were killed and maimed. Many weapons and materiel were also captured," he said.

"As part of their desperate attempt to escalate the tension and drag us into more action, they shelled Sheraro on the 28th and 29th of May. It is clear that the regime will stop at nothing to drag the region into an interminable conflict and sabotage in a real or perceived effort at peace," added the former federal information minister.

along with other partners called for immediate withdrawal by Asmara.

"It behooves the International community to exert pressure on the regime to reverse course while reiterating our unwillingness to let the regime prolong the suffering of our people, " Reda added just a few days after he confirmed that several aid groups have arrived in Tigray after the blockade was lifted by the Æthiopian government.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed maintained that his administration is keen to ensure normal operations within the region which has been entangled in war since November 2020. The 2019 Nobel Peace Prize winner has also been accused of promoting intolerance within the Horn of Africa nation.

Æthiopia is also facing a host of internal challenges including ethnic unrest within the Oromia, Amhara, Afar, and Somali regions. The country, which enjoyed relative peace after Abiy Ahmed took over in 2018, has been incomplete shambles and not even efforts by the African Union

Britain
Sperm donor fathered 15 kids without telling lesbian moms he has genetic IQ disease
[NYP] A Facebook sperm donor fathered 15 children but never told the mothers he has an inheritable condition that causes learning disabilities.

James MacDougall, 37, fathered children with lesbian women through private donations advertised on social media despite knowing he had incurable Fragile X syndrome, a genetic disorder that leads to low IQ and developmental delay.

MacDougall’s identity came out in a family court battle in Derby, United Kingdom, after he applied for parental responsibility and child arrangement orders for four of his children — even though he originally signed an agreement saying he didn’t want contact with some of his children.

The mothers of the children were opposed to the applications.

Derby Court Judge Justice Nathalie Lieven named MacDougall to stop other women from using him as a sperm donor and ruled he should not have any responsibility for the children as it would cause them harm.

For our Russian trolls-Top Russian Military Brass Caught Venting: ‘You're Fucked, Putin‐Motherfucker!'
Video subtitled in English and more of the transcript at the link.
[DailyBeast] Two high-ranking Russian military officers have been caught shit-talking Kremlin leadership in unimaginably colorful language. The two colonels blast the defense minister and lash out at that “motherfucker” Vladimir Putin for his poor strategy in Ukraine, according to a leaked recording of a phone conversation.

While Western and Ukrainian intelligence agencies have routinely reported on plunging morale among rank-and-file Russian troops fighting in Ukraine, many of whom have been heard complaining of dysfunction in intercepted communications, the latest audio appears to be the first to expose frustrations among high-ranking officers.

Radio Free Europe’s Ukrainian service published the curse-laden recording late Monday, reporting that it was provided by Ukrainian intelligence. One of the men heard in the purported intercepted call—identified as Colonel Maksim Vlasov—is no stranger to the eight-year war in Ukraine’s Donbas. He has been wanted by Ukrainian authorities since 2018 for the 2015 shelling of Mariupol—an attack in which he previously implicated himself by carelessly blabbing about it by phone in an earlier intercepted phone call covered by Bellingcat.

The latest recording, dated April 14, is said to show Vlasov and another colonel, Vitaly Kovtun, a doctor at the Naro-Fominsk military hospital said to hold many military honors, raging against the many failures of Putin’s “special military operation” in Ukraine.

They both express particular ire for Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

“There are horrible losses of our guys, fuck. And you know, I am familiar with military history a bit, and I compare this to the fucking Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940. It’s fucking one and the same,” said Vlasov, referring to a war in which the Soviets are estimated to have lost 126,875 troops.

He goes on to take aim at Shoigu, whom he describes as an “incompetent fucking layman.”

“He’s a layman in his work. This is not his fucking thing. He’s just a fucking showman,” the man identified as Vlasov says.

Kovtun responds in kind, saying, “Shoigu is fucking shit. [There are] no contracted forces. Of course not! Why would there fucking be? They paid them 30,000 rubles [$490], where are they going to get contractees?”

#3  It served its purpose. It was a meatgrinder and now the Ukrainians pulled back. We will see how the Russians can get across the river in the western side of the city. So far they have fucked up 2 crossings to the northwest and I don't have a lot of faith in them successfully completing a 3rd.

Currently the Russian forces there will need a break as they have been make combat ineffective so there may be a pause for a while.

Meanwhile a Ukrainian counter offensive is going off in the south Velyka. We'll see how well it will go, but they have put some holes in the Russian lines so far. Time will tell if the Ukrainians will sustain it.

#5  I find it interesting that Russians think by simply occupying Severodonetsk that the war is over and that they can simply incorporate it into Russia, The Ukranian have mobilized hundreds of thousands that are being trained now and outfitted. The Russians are spent and the war is far from over. The Ukrainians with Western Financial and Military Support and determination could prevail in the long run.The Russians would need to create some sort of Strategic defeat for the war to end. For Russia to win they would need mass mobilization, reconstitute and refit their army which would take a year or years to accomplish, The war as fought now is far from over and currently favors the Ukranians.

#6  ^ This pessimistic (as to Ukraine's chances of avoiding a complete rout in the Donbas in coming days) is the view of most of the German and French, and probably American, military establishments. Especially those analysts who understand the role and usage of artillery.

I'm told many of the Israeli military analysts hold this view as well.

#7  General Roland Kather: "Ich denke, sie werden sich mit dem Donbass – wenn sie ihn unter Kontrolle haben, und nach meiner Auffassung ist das nur noch eine Frage von Tagen, bestenfalls Wochen"

The French see the same rout in the making. Everyone sees the parallels with 1914-1918... except in this case the Russians have vastly more firepower.

It's also clear that the Ukrainians are isolated, trapped and reduced to throwing under-resources, untrained, inexperienced old men and kids into the meat grinder. We are seeing mutiny after mutiny after mutiny. This too is reminiscent of Workd War One.

Large unit of Wagner Group have fallen on hard times in eastern Ukraine
[Ukrinform] From a conversation intercepted by the Security Service of Ukraine, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated a large unit of mercenaries of Russia’s Wagner Group in the east.

As the Security Service of Ukraine posted on Telegram, after the Ukrainian defenders smashed an elite unit, "ordinary" Russian servicemen are now afraid to fight at all.

In an intercepted telephone conversation, a Russian invader complains to his wife that even well-trained mercenaries cannot succeed in performing their tasks.

According to him, "miserable remnants are left" out of the large number of militants sent to the task.

In response, the wife advises him to leave the army.

South Ossetia shelves plan for referendum to join Russia
More unexpected consequences of Russia’s war in the Ukraine.
[DW] The leader of South Ossetia, the breakaway region of Georgia, has scrapped plans to hold a referendum on joining Russia. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
a vote could still be held after consultations with Moscow.

The president of a breakaway region of Georgia, South Ossetia, has scrapped plans for a June 17 referendum on joining Russia.

The new leader of the region, which is recognized as separate by only Russia and a handful of its allies, has said he first wants to hold talks with Moscow.

PLAN OF PREVIOUS PRESIDENT REVOKED
The referendum was called by the region's former leader, Anatoly Bibilov, who is considered by many to have called for the controversial vote to secure his reelection.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
Bibilov lost a presidential election in early May to his rival Alan Gagloev, who has called the planned plebiscite premature.

Despite criticizing the referendum, Gagloev has voiced his support for South Ossetia's eventual accession to Russia.

Georgia's government has called the plan for a referendum "unacceptable."

Gagloev has said he plans to consult with Moscow on bringing about the region's integration with Russia. He has announced plans to travel to Moscow for talks.

UKRAINE STOKES FEELINGS OF SOLIDARITY
The war on Ukraine has sparked an outpouring of solidarity in Georgia, which was the subject of a Russian invasion in 2008.

That attack came as Georgia battled pro-Russian militia in South Ossetia, after they fired shells at Georgian villages.

A European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
-mediated cease-fire brought an end to the fighting after five days, but the conflict claimed more than 700 lives and left tens of thousands of ethnic Georgians displaced.

The Kremlin subsequently recognized the territory — as well as another separatist region, Abkhazia — as an independent state, stationing its own military there.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: May 31st, 2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 23:27 Russia has switched to outright theft of Ukrainian products in the territories temporarily occupied during the war. How is Ukraine trying to resist such robbery? About this in the material The economic side of the war .

23:15 The United States will announce new defense assistance to Ukraine in the coming days, State Department spokesman Ned Price said: "We must continue to strengthen Ukraine's ability to defend itself in the face of the Kremlin's brutal aggression, and we will have more to say in this regard in the coming days" .

Price did not elaborate, but recalled that Washington has allocated about $40 billion, most of which is "intended for defense support of Ukrainian partners."

23:12 Washington is concerned about Moscow's attempts to institutionalize control over the territory of Ukraine, especially in the Kherson region, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said: "The Kremlin is probably weighing several approaches, from recognizing the so-called "people's republic" as Russia forcibly did in Donetsk and Luhansk, before the attempted annexation, as it did in Crimea."

“We continue to sound the alarm now, especially after the unilateral decree of Russian President Putin, which will accelerate the issuance of Russian passports to citizens of Ukraine. Russia used similar tactics in Donetsk and Lugansk in 2019. <...> Russia will almost certainly fail to achieve the legitimacy of puppet governments on newly captured territories in Ukraine as protests continue and residents refuse to cooperate," Price added.

23:03 The Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a counteroffensive in the Kherson region - the Russians were driven out of Nikolaevka, Kakhovka district, suffered losses and retreated to disadvantageous positions. Experts say that the counter-offensive will divide the Russian group and allow the invaders to be encircled in the Krivoy Rog direction. For more details, see the material Offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kherson region .

23:00 Zelensky addressed the Ukrainians, who are trying to urge the Armed Forces of Ukraine and tell them what to do: "Ukraine values every opinion. But Ukraine values, first of all, every life. And this is an axiom. And Ukraine will never do like Russia, which throws people into the hell of fighting only because Moscow wanted to seize something in a few days or by a certain date. Our military, intelligence, the National Guard and everyone involved in the defense of the state, gradually, but inevitably frustrate all the plans of the invaders. "

The President also acknowledged that the situation in the Donbass direction is very difficult: “Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Kurakhovo are now at the epicenter of the confrontation. Given the presence of a large chemical production in Severodonetsk, the Russian army’s strikes there, in particular blind air bombardment, are simply insane. On the first day of such a war, it is no longer surprising that for the Russian military, for Russian commanders, for Russian soldiers, any madness is perfectly acceptable.

22:28 Orban is "ruthlessly" undermining the unity of the EU in his own interests, and this will have its consequences, said German Economy Minister Robert Habeck. Europe's "strength and determination" suffered during the disputes over the sixth round of sanctions against Russia, he said: "This is a compromise, and perhaps we live in a time when too many compromises not only cloud but ultimately destroy clarity. ".

21:44 The Russians have been continuously firing howitzers at the village of Zolochiv in the Kharkiv region today for ten hours, the head of the Zolochiv community, Viktor Kovalenko, told Suspilny. According to him, Zolochev has never been shelled like this before. As a result, a 74-year-old woman died, and a 73-year-old woman was seriously injured.

21:19 The Russians have cut off communications in southern Ukraine, and it will not be possible to restore it in the near future, the State Service for Special Communications of Ukraine said.

21:11 A number of OPEC members are exploring the possibility of suspending Russia's participation in the OPEC + deal amid Western sanctions, writes The Wall Street Journal.

20:56 Washington will provide Kiev with weapons for protection within the borders of Ukraine, but not beyond its borders, said US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

20:53 In the de-occupied territories, railway communication has been restored by 45%, and electricity supply has been restored in 85% of the de-occupied cities, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Kirill Tymoshenko said. According to him, medical institutions have resumed work in 326 settlements, and pharmacies have opened in more than 400. All substations operate in the Kyiv region. Currently, power engineers are working on connecting each individual house or apartment in accordance with the submitted applications.

20:37 President of the European Council Charles Michel believes that the process of approving the sixth sanctions package against Russia will end on June 1 or 2.

20:13 Most of Severodonetsk is controlled by the Russians, the head of the Luhansk OVA Serhiy Gaidai said on the air of the telethon. At the same time, according to him, the city is not surrounded, but because of the shelling it is impossible to deliver goods and carry out evacuation.

19:49 The EU plans to ban the insurance of tankers carrying Russian oil as part of the sixth package of sanctions, writes The Wall Street Journal. According to oil traders and ship owners interviewed by the publication, the ban on European companies to insure tankers with Russian oil will become a serious financial weapon, since few people dare to transport oil without insurance.

19:42 As a result of an enemy airstrike on Severodonetsk, a tank with nitric acid at a chemical plant was damaged, the authorities urge local residents to stay in shelters, said the head of the Luhansk OVA Serhiy Gaidai.

19:15 The investigation has established the names of more than 600 Russians suspected of committing war crimes in Ukraine. Criminal proceedings have been launched against about 80 of them, Venediktova said.

19:13 The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that old Soviet tanks and combat vehicles are being removed from storage in Belarus - they can be transferred to Russia to make up for losses.

19:11 Shmyhal said that for more than three months, support for Ukraine's allies amounted to $7 billion. According to him, the Cabinet of Ministers at today's meeting approved the conditions for attracting financial support from the Canadian government in the amount of about $800 million, as well as a draft agreement with the EU on providing Ukraine with 330 million euros.

19:08 French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said that the European Commission will give an opinion on Ukraine's application for EU membership on June 15.

19:07 Almost all major EU countries, except Italy, oppose granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said following the summit of EU leaders: "Only we are for the status of an EU candidate for Kiev. Against the status of a candidate for Ukraine in the EU "Almost all major countries object. I would say, all except Italy. <...> But it is necessary to provide a fast path for Ukraine to join. And it seems to me that the European Commission also agrees with this point of view."

19:00 Following the summit, the EU adopted a statement in which it turned to Russia with a request to unblock Ukrainian ports for grain export: "The European Council strongly condemns the destruction and misappropriation of agricultural production in Ukraine by Russia. The Russian aggressive war against Ukraine has a direct impact on global food security and accessibility. The European Council calls on Russia to stop attacks on transport infrastructure in Ukraine and lift the blockade of Ukrainian Black Sea ports by allowing food exports specifically from Odessa."

Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine Mykola Solsky said that about 1.5 million tons of grain were blocked in Ukrainian ports.

18:53 Zelensky said at a briefing that Ukraine will not rush to de-occupy territories if it requires tens of thousands of victims, but will wait for the necessary weapons: "We are not attached to the date of de-occupation, we are attached to people. If these or those of our steps, our operations related to the de-occupation of this or that region will be associated with tens of thousands of our dead people, then we will wait for the appropriate weapons in order to save our people to the maximum ... Because these territories without living Ukrainians, we, frankly, are not in priority".

The President also explained the complexity of the situation in the east: "The situation is complicated in the east due to the fact that the largest number of equipment, military formations, battalions of both the Russian Federation and traitors who are collaborators, separatists, representatives of the conditional "DPR" and "LPR". The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that analysts  pointed to the lack of information  on the death toll in Ukraine. The true extent of the losses during the special operation in Ukraine cannot be assessed until it is over, said the chief researcher at the IMEMO. EAT. Primakov RAS Alexey Malashenko.

As a rule, most of the contract soldiers are from poor regions, which explains the frequent reports of casualties among the natives of Dagestan and other republics of the North Caucasus Federal District, Akhmet Yarlykapov, a senior researcher at the Center for Eurasian Studies at MGIMO, suggested.

Biden admin to send Multiple Launch Rocket Systems to Ukraine in $40B aid package
[FoxNews] The Biden administration is expected this week to approve sending shorter-range rocket missiles to Ukraine as part of the $40 billion aid package for the besieged country.

The Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), known as HIMARS (High Mobility Rockets System), have a range of 83 to 185 miles based on the kind of artillery rockets and mobile platform being used. There are also wheeled versions of the MLRS that fire 6 missiles and there are tracked vehicles that fire 12 missiles.

MLRS had reportedly been a top request from Ukrainian officials, who say they need it to stop the advance of Russian forces in the east, which has taken control of the key city of Lyman last week.

The approval comes after President Biden said Monday the U.S. would not send rocket systems to Ukraine that could potentially reach into Russia, though he was referring to longer-range ATACMS missiles, which have a range of 185 miles.

#3  Extraordinarily reckless and foolish. This will, at most, merely prolong the war and with it, the Ukrainians' agony. Biden is ensuring that all of the east of Ukraine will be reduced to ruins. The outcome will be the same -- a Russian victory and the loss of a substantial portion of Ukrainian territory. More innocents will die and more people around the world will become poorer or starve.

Just as he did during his Asian trip, Biden's foolish and incendiary behavior is creating chaos and havoc in every situation he touches.

#6  Personally, I think it's a total waste of money as it looks like Ukraine will soon no longer exist as a country. I suspect east of the Dnepr River, will all be part of Russian and West of the Dnepr River will possibly become part of Poland as it used to be.

#7  Daily Beast - Kremlin TV Names the Country Putin Will Invade Next

Excerpt:

The first in line is apparently Poland, with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev baselessly claiming on Tuesday that Poland is moving to seize territories in western Ukraine and accusing numerous unnamed countries of “actively working to dismember Ukraine.” Meanwhile, on Russian state TV hosts and pundits routinely refer to Ukraine as “the territory formerly known as Ukraine” and matter-of-factly discuss how many millions of Ukrainians might have to die for Russia to complete its so-called “denazification.” In his recent interview, Russian State Duma Deputy Defense Committee Chairman Vladimir Shamanov, former Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Airborne Troops, admitted that Russia “was built through territorial enlargement” and named Poland as one of Russia’s main adversaries.

#8  Currently, the Russians are launching attacks on the west Ukrainian railroad tunnel through which fuel and arms enter Ukraine from Poland and the West.

After Donbas, the Russians will focus on taking the final piece of the puzzle, Odesa.

At that point Ukraine will be completely dead economically. The government will have no revenues and will be totally dependent on Congress, and Zelensky (assuming he does not flee and is not deposed in another US-backed coup) will effectively be an employee of the State Department.

It would be prudent to begin negotiations posthaste.

#9  "baselessly claiming on Tuesday that Poland is moving to seize territories in western Ukraine"

baselessly - LOL

Zelensky has essentially removed the border, waiving customs and duties and offering citizenship to Poles. He is inviting Polish soldiers to enter Ukraine and join the fight.

#12  Immediately after Biden into the White House and brought back Victoria Newland and the entire team from 2014, Zelensky announced his intention to seize Crimea. Throughout the summer of 2021, the Biden administration raised the ante with provocative actions including June 2021's hostile US-UK naval maneuvers right next to the base at Sevastopol itself.

The final straw occurred on November 10, 2021, when Zelensky and Biden signed a formal agreement to seize Crimea. This “charter on strategic partnership” pledged that Ukraine would join NATO and underscored what it called the US-Ukrainian “unwavering commitment” to the absorption of Crimea, and its extraordinarily important Russian naval base, by Ukraine.

The parallels with World War One are obvious.

Putin, like all of the national leaders in August 1914, believed he had to attack before NATO attacked and seized Crimea. Again, Zelensky and the US president had formally pledged their nation's to seize Crimea. The US had been engaging in threatening naval exercises next to Crimea.

In the face of this clear demonstration of both the intention and the capability to seize the most valuable military, strategic, economic and political territory that Russia possesses outside its main two cities, Putin decided that he must attack before NATO attacked and seized Crimea.

#18  The Russian tactics are quite different from how they've been presented by the official sources in the West. This American analyst seems to have a more solid grasp:

“It has been assumed that the Russians were trying to generate larger pockets and encircle large numbers of Ukrainians in major ground movements,” the American source said. “The Russians may have adopted a different tactic, one that has been used very effectively by the Israelis ...."

This tactic involves "finding a weak spot, using coordinated artillery, armor and infantry for a small, localized breakthrough and then penetrate behind the local defense and rapidly turn and roll up small pockets of the enemy. This appears to be a deliberate tactical choice by the Russians,” the American source said.

#19  Given the close cooperation between the Russian military and the Israeli Defense Forces, it makes sense that they would share tactical knowledge and advice.

The Israelis have been pounding Hezbollah and Hamas for years, and now they're helping advise the Russians on how to pulverize Azov and the remaining Ukrainian battalions.

Eh? I must have missed that while reading the news from Israel these past many decades, though I admit to having no knowledge of matters military. I understand that in recent years Israel informed the Russian command in Syria when they were about to raid various sites in Syria, but it is not clear to me that it went beyond that.

#25  Wikipedia:

The largest number of Russian Jews now live in Israel. Israel is home to a core Russian-Jewish population of 900,000, and an enlarged population of 1,200,000 (including halakhically non-Jewish members of Jewish households, but excluding those who reside in Israel illegally).[2][failed verification] The Aliyah in the 1990s accounts for 85–90% of this population.
The population growth rate for Former Soviet Union (FSU) immigrants were among the lowest for any Israeli groups, with a fertility rate of 1.70 and natural increase of just +0.5% per year.[3] The increase in Jewish birth rate in Israel during the 2000–2007 period was partly due to the increasing birth rate among the FSU immigrants, who now form 20% of the Jewish population of Israel.

Recalling from Modern Jewish History lessons in Hebrew school, back in the day:

The first waves of aliyah — Jewish immigration to the Holy Land — were indeed from Eastern Europe and Russia starting in 1880 or thereabouts. They spoke mostly Yiddish, loathed Russia, and many were communist or socialist. To them Zionism was as much a back-to-the-land folk movement as it was a Jewish nationalist movement. They established agricultural kibbutzes and moshavs, folk dancing, and eventually decided that Hebrew would be the language of the reestablished Jewish homeland.

The next waves, in the 1930s through the post-WWII period, came mostly from Nazi Europe. Some spoke Yiddish, some the language of their home country, some also German. Committed Zionists from the Americas and the British Empire started joining them after Israel was established in 1948.

Then starting in 1952 or so the Muslim Middle East emptied itself of the Jews who had lived there for millennia — some communities dating back to the time of King Solomon, others to the Babylonian conquest in 586 BC.

For perspective, the population of Israel as of this month is about 9,506,100, 74% of whom are counted as Jewish — so approximately 7,034,500 are Jews. Resident non-Jewish relatives of Jewish immigrants are another few percent — I calculate the FSU immigrants as about 15% of Israel's Jewish population.

An influential group, to be sure, and mostly fond of their former homeland — though not fond enough of it to remain there. They arrived highly educated and highly cultured, and proceeded to transform Israel even before they mastered Hebrew. And yes, they did not at all indulge in the fashionable guilt of the Euro-style labour socialists who had run the country from the 1930s until Menachem Begin’s victory in 1977, another way they impacted the country beyond their raw numbers.

Biden to Finally Meet Baby Formula Makers and Seek Supply Fixes
Where's pete?
It’s a waste of time for poor President Biden to host anything — strictly kabuki for the rubes. This is an FDA non-execution issue. The FDA belongs to the Department of Health & Human Services, currently headed by former congressman Xavier Becerra, who clearly does not want to be connected to this debacle.
[Breitbart] President Joe Biden will meet infant formula manufacturers on Wednesday in an effort to solve ongoing supply chain problems, almost four months after the product first started disappearing off shelves.

The White House said Biden would host a roundtable with leaders of manufacturers ByHeart, Bubs Australia, Reckitt, Perrigo Co. and Gerber.

#3  Cut back the FDA's powers and get rid of all the protectionism laws around baby formula and that will fix the issue.

Government caused issue seeks more government to fix the issue.

1st of all, "Biden Meets With ...." given his mental issues I hope someone video tapes it to remind him and Nancy.

2nd, I agree We have way too much Federal Regulation.

SUGGESTION:
Every Federal Reg and Law should have a expiration date requiring automatic review and justification to continue.

Say every 5 to 10 years to see if its working, useless and needs tuning and/or causing greater social problems.

#5  I have thought something similar NN2N1. 5 year sunset clause in all laws passed by congress. Can be pushed to 10 years with a 2/3 vote. If it was a good(ish) and useful law, it will be brought back later. Otherwise it dies at its appointed time.

Here is the text, if someone wants to take a stab at it:

#4  According to Google translate:

Zaporozhye region. The filigree precise work of the special forces of the 15th Main Directorate of the DVKR SBU Arrived, saw and bombed the BTR-82 orcs. If we had 300 such well-trained crews of combat drones as in the 15th DVKR of the SBU, and at least once every 3 days such a crew destroyed at least one unit of enemy armored vehicles, then in a month we would destroy 3000 tanks, armored personnel carriers and vehicles of the enemy! The cost of such an impact copter - a Drone, which is made by the Aerorazvedka association - is only 35-40 thousand dollars. The cost of equipping a group for 2-3 pickups, an escort group and cover is only 150 thousand dollars. 300 such groups - 45-50 Million dollars. And the effect on the destroyed Russian equipment would be measured in billions of dollars a month. Those who are responsible for this in the Armed Forces of Ukraine need to immediately organize mass training of crews for strike drones. This is an inexpensive and effective method of fighting the invaders.

Canadian province will decriminalize cocaine and MDMA for THREE YEARS to free up police amid an overdose crisis: Move comes just one day after Trudeau's ban on handgun sales was proposed
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • British Colombia is set to decriminalize possession of up to 2.5 grams opioids, cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA starting January 31, 2023

  • While the newest policy does not legalize the substances, for three years drug users 18 and over caught with the substances will not be arrested and charged

  • The exemption would not apply to airports, schools and members of the Canadian military

  • The policy comes after British Columbia has become the epicenter of Canada's opioid crisis

  • Since 2016 there have been over 9,400 deaths due to toxic illicit drugs in British Columbia and a record 2,224 last year

#5  Sounds like a plan to increase the number of overdoses and death. I guess the overdose rate will fall after the death rate picks up. Canadian policy seems to be moving towards eugenics via euthanasia. Maybe they consider death to be herd immunity for life.

African American White House staffers leaving in mass... ‘Blaxit'
[NYP] More than 20 black White House aides have departed the Biden administration since late last year, an exodus some have dubbed "Blaxit," according to a new report.

While some of the departing staffers have left on good terms to pursue additional career or educational opportunities, others have attributed the turnover to a lack of mentorship and opportunity, Politico reported Tuesday, citing nine black current and former White House officials.

"We’re here and we’re doing a lot of work but we’re not decision-makers and there’s no real path towards becoming decision-makers," one current staffer told the outlet. "There is no real feedback and there’s no clear path to any kind of promotions."

"They brought in a ton of black people generally to start without ever establishing an infrastructure to retain them or help them be successful," another current official said. "If there is no clear infrastructure of how to be successful, you become just as invisible in this space than you would be if you were not in it."

Some "people have not had the best experiences and a lot of that has to do with the death of black leadership," a former official agreed. "Think about any workplace. Black folks need some person to go to, to strategize and be a mentor, and we just don’t have as many folks who can be mentors to us."

The first departure of a top black official from the administration came in December, when Vice President Kamala Harris’ senior adviser and chief spokesperson Symone Sanders left to take a hosting gig with MSNBC.

#7  "They brought in a ton of black people generally to start without ever establishing an infrastructure to retain them or help them be successful,"

On a more serious note, there's a certain stage of someone's career where 'mentoring', 'establishing an infrastructure' and all that professional training-wheel bullshit should no longer be necessary. Ever since I've heard these same phrases applied to (current) Vice President Knee-Pads, it's nothing more than the usual leftist whining and excuse making.
