Federal prosecutors quietly announce they have DROPPED their case against Jeffrey Epstein's jail guards, one day AFTER Ghislaine Maxwell's guilty verdict
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • In a Thursday filing in Manhattan federal court, prosecutors asked a judge to dismiss claims against Tova Noel, 33 and Michael Thomas, 43

  • They both complied with the six-month no-jail deal they agreed to in May, and completed community service, according to the filing

  • Epstein was found hanging in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial for sex trafficking

  • The Bureau of Prisons workers admitted to falsifying records, falling asleep and surfing the internet rather than doing round checks on Epstein every 30 minutes

  • Noel and Thomas had been scheduled for a public hearing on December 16, but it was suddenly canceled on December 15

  • The prosecutors' notice was filed on December 13, but the document was not made public until Thursday, a day after a jury found Maxwell guilty

Las Vegas police arrest suspect in Chinatown shooting
[LASVEGASSUN] Metro Police has arrested a man suspected of shooting a restaurant worker in Chinatown last week.Rashawn Gaston-Anderson, 23, was taken into custody Monday without incident near East Desert Inn Road and South Maryland Parkway.

A citizen who recognized Gaston-Anderson alerted police to his whereabouts.

Gaston-Anderson is believed to have entered through the back door of the ShangHai Eats restaurant in the 4200 block of Spring Mountain Road just before 3 a.m. Dec. 20, police said. He fired multiple rounds at an employee.

The victim, whom police have not identified, was transported to University Medical Center and was in stable, pH balanced condition as of Thursday, police said.
A face only a mother could love.
The kind of face seen in encounters on The Spot after clandestine meetings with the other henchmen in a banana grove in the wee hours of the night when good folk are snugly abed.

After Spokane Food Program Officials Turn Away Unvaccinated for Christmas Meals – Patriots Step In and Feed Everyone
[trending politics] A week before Christmas, in Spokane, WA, the Christmas Bureau food assistance program turned away needy people who could not show proof of Covid-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID test no more than 72 hours old.

The Christmas Bureau is an annual holiday assistance program coordinated by Catholic Charities Eastern Washington, Volunteers of America, and the Spokesman-Review. The program is made possible by generous monetary funds and volunteer hours donated by community members and organizations.

In response to the Christmas Bureau’s actions, a group of Christian patriots launched a "No Vaccine Canteen" to feed everyone — regardless of their medical history.

I hope @CassandraRules can thank Jim Hoft (since he's banned here) for shedding light on this situation.

Because of his article, the poor and homeless who are un-v*ccinated will now have an option to eat food this Christmas...

Dan Bell, who helped organize a food drive and feed the homeless, said he was surprised to see that a Catholic church was involved in turning away the hungry.

"As a Christian, if you’re following the teachings of Jesus, you feed the hungry, right? You feed all hungry. So, we wanted to make sure nobody went without a good hot meal on Christmas," Bell said in an interview with the North Idaho Exposed YouTube channel.

#11  Imaging the Catholic Church turning away Christ because he hadn't been vaccinated.

Not to judge them, I am not wise or foolish enough, but from the book of Matthew (25:44 - 46 NIV)

And they too will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45-Then the King will answer, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’ 46-And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”…

CDC Drastically Revises Omicron vs Delta Numbers
[NYPOST] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has drastically reduced its estimate of Omicron cases in the US, saying the variant accounted for about 59 percent of COVID-19 infections as of Christmas Day; a massive drop from the 73 percent previously reported.

The CDC also significantly lowered its estimate for the week before Christmas, saying that the variant accounted for just 22.5 percent of all infections as of Dec. 18. The public health agency previously estimated that Omicron accounted for 73.2 percent of cases that week.

...Tuesday's revision came as the US logged its highest single-day total of new COVID-19 cases; 441,278 infections, passing the previous daily record by nearly 150,000 cases,
[today's, 30 Dec, new infections were up again, to about 566k]

Hong Kong police charge 2 men after Stand News raid
Just checking in to see how things are going in formerly free Hong Kong.
[DW] A total of seven journalists were arrested Wednesday for "conspiracy to publish seditious publications" following a raid on pro-democracy publication Stand News.

Police officers guard outside the building of Stand News' office
Two of the seven journalists arrested after Hong Kong police raided the office of online media organization Stand News were charged with sedition on Thursday, police said.

Court documents reveal the two men charged were acting chief editor Patrick Lam and former chief editor Chung Pui-kuein. Additionally, the documents reveal the police would prosecute Stand News's parent company, Best Pencil Limited.

Pro-democracy outlet Stand News announced it was shutting operations in a Facebook post on Wednesday evening.

WHAT HONG KONG AUTHORITES SAID
The police said in a statement that it had officially charged "two men, aged 34 and 52 respectively, and an online media company, each with one count of conspiracy to publish seditious publication."

"The two persons were arrested yesterday (December 29) for conspiracy to publish seditious publication, contravening section 9 and 10 of the Crimes Ordinance," it added.

The police did not identify either the news hounds or the online media company, in line with its practice of not naming persons in statements it issues. The department said other journalists who had been arrested were tossed into the calaboose for "further enquiries."

Earlier on Thursday, Hong Kong's leader Carrie Lam told news hounds that the raid and arrests were law enforcement actions and not aimed at the media industry.

"These actions have nothing to do with so-called suppression of press freedom," she said.

She hit back at foreign governments calling for the release of journalists, adding that "journalism is not seditious...but seditious activities could not condoned under the guise of news reporting."

US, GERMANY, CANADA CALL FOR RELEASE OF JOURNALISTS
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday night condemned the closure of Stand News and called on Hong Kong authorities "to stop targeting the independent media and release those unjustly detained."

He said that by silencing independent outlets, China and local authorities were undermining Hong Kong's" credibility and viability" and that a confident government "embraces a free press."

A spokesperson for the German foreign ministry said Wednesday that events of the day showed "there is a steady erosion of pluralism, freedom of opinion and freedom of press in Hong Kong — especially since this national security law came into force."

Melanie Joly, Canada's foreign minister, also denounced the arrests of journalists in Hong Kong. One of the journalists arrested was a Canadian citizen who was born in Hong Kong.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE RAID ON STAND NEWS?
Hong Kong police arrested seven journalists who either worked with Stand News or were former employees of the news organization on Wednesday.

Around 200 national coppers raided the media organization's office around lunchtime, seizing phones, computers and documents.

DW correspondent Phoebe Kong reported that officers of the Hong Kong police's national security department also searched the home of Hong Kong Journalists Association chairman Ronson Chan the same day.

China warns of 'drastic measures' if Taiwan provokes on independence
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] China will take "drastic measures" if Taiwan makes moves towards independence, a Beijing official warned on Wednesday, adding that Taiwan’s provocations and outside meddling could intensify next year.

China claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory and in the past two years has stepped up military and diplomatic pressure to assert its illusory sovereignty claim, fuelling anger in Taipei and concern in Washington.

China was willing to try its utmost to seek peaceful reunification with Taiwan but would act if any red lines on independence were crossed, Ma Xiaoguang, front man of the Taiwan Affairs Office, told a media briefing.

"If separatist forces in Taiwan seeking independence provoke, exert force or even break through any red line, we will have to take drastic measures," Ma said.

Taiwan has emerged as a key factor in strained relations between China and the United States, the island’s most important international backer and arms supplier despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties.

China regularly describes the island as the most sensitive issue in its ties with the United States.

Ma said provocation by pro-independence forces and "external intervention" could grow "sharper and more intense" in the coming months.

"Next year, the Taiwan Strait situation will become more complex and severe," he said.

Beijing has sent repeated air missions over the Taiwan Strait in recent months to pressure Taiwan. It has said it will not give in to threats.

While the United States recognizes only one China, it is required by law to provide Taiwan with the means to defend itself and has long followed a policy of "strategic ambiguity" on whether it would intervene militarily to protect Taiwan in the event of a Chinese attack.

The defeated Republic of China government fled to Taiwan in 1949 after losing a civil war with the Communists, who established the People’s Republic of China.

North Korea Calls for Troops' Greater Loyalty to Kim
[An Nahar] North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
on Thursday urged its 1.2 million troops to unite behind leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
and defend him with their lives, as the country celebrated the 10th anniversary of Kim's ascension to supreme commander of the military. The anniversary comes as North Korea is holding a key multi-day political conference in which officials are expected to discuss how to address difficulties brought by the pandemic and long-dormant diplomacy with the United States.

In a lengthy editorial, the official Rodong Sinmun newspaper said that North Korea's military commanders and soldiers must become an "impregnable fortress and bulletproof walls in devotedly defending (Kim) with their lives."

It also called for building a more modernized, advanced military that serves as a "reliable guardian of our state and people." The editorial said all of North Korea's troops and people must uphold Kim's leadership to establish a powerful socialist country.

North Korea has previously issued similar propaganda-heavy statements urging people to rally behind Kim in times of difficulties. Some experts say Kim has been grappling with the toughest moment of his 10-year rule due to the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic, U.N. sanctions and his own mismanagement.

On Monday, Kim opened a plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party to review past projects and determine major policies for next year. In two days of meetings, Kim set unspecified development strategies for the country's rural development, while participants discussed next year's budget and other agendas, according to state media.

Observers say North Korea will likely disclose Kim's stances on relations with Washington and Seoul, the deadlocked nuclear diplomacy and the economic hardships at the end of the plenary meeting expected later this week.

Despite the present difficulties, few outside analysts question Kim's grip on power. Kim's supreme commander post at the Korean People's Army was the first top job he was given after his father Kim Jong Il's death in 2011. The current leader holds a slew of other high-profile positions such as general secretary of the Workers' Party and chairman of the State Affairs Commission.

Oil heads for biggest annual gain since at least 2016
[Reuters] Oil prices fell on Friday but were set to post their biggest annual gains since at least 2016, spurred by the global economic recovery from the COVID-19 slump and producer restraint, even as infections surged to record highs around the world.

#1  Market prices often reflect product availability. 'Supply and Demand' (and all that other icky stuff requiring logic and math).

When a product becomes less available due to 'producer restraint' brought on by government restrictions, the product price goes up.

#2  one of the problems this year was Hurricane Ida which forced much of the Gulf oil production to shut down at the end of August; this depressed supply until about October - since October there has been a significant recovery in production

unfortunately however, the hostile US political regime has led to a big decline in exploration in 2021 which fell by over 60% from 2020

this creates a problem going forward

#1  Wow, great work Saltie.
My first auto was a HiPower.
Shoots first time, every time.
Hits where you point it.

All the gripes were gripes but I did fix the mag disconnect issue. Not uncommon to dump the mag in a tac reload while still firing.

Our favorite drill was coke cans in a tree.
Knock it out of the V then hit it one or two more times before it hit the ground.

#6  Had a long discussion with a very decent counter guy at BPS about what guns they offer. Looking on the website: waste of time. Go to the store. My advice is, be there when the door opens. If you are 2nd in line, you better have brought a lunch.
What the guy told me is they have a very limited catalog. They don't take special orders.
I want a new Colt Anaconda. I have a stupid amount of points on my Cabela's credit card. I found a guy who can get me the Colt and asked him what he would take NIB as trade. I'm going to but that item at BPS and trade elsewhere for what I want.

GM heralded this plant as a model for its electric car future. Then its batteries started exploding.
[United News Post] GM’s recall, despite its scale and significance to the company, arose from a dozen isolated instances of fire with no external cause.

It was a worst-case scenario for the company, which has partnered with an experienced battery maker, South Korea-based LG, to power its electric fleet.

GM says LG has instituted new controls to ensure the fiasco doesn’t happen again.

LG, which has made batteries for the Bolt’s entire run, is reimbursing GM for nearly $2 billion in costs associated with the recall.

#7  The grid can’t handle the increasing demand AND fossil fuel use will skyrocket to generate the electricity
Electric cars, ethanol, and hydrogen are very BTU negative
It takes more BTUs of energy to generate the electricity than it produces
Now if we’ll just quit screwing around with fusion reactors we might have a chance but we still have infrastructure issues with distribution
The environazis will lawfare construction of the additional distribution systems to a grinding halt

  • But the 20-tonne mock spy satellite and booster rocket has since failed
