Unexplained explosion and fire destroy world's second largest pharmaceutical factory producing precursors for hydroxychloroquine
[Am Thinker] Prepare for supplies to tighten for the cheap, effective therapeutic treatment for early stage Covid-19 infection, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ). Just as the medical establishment in the US is relaxing its absurd and lethal suppression of the cheap, generic drug, following President Trump’s endorsement of it early in the pandemic, HCQ’s continued availability may suffer. The world’s second largest pharmaceutical facility producing the precursors for HCQ has been destroyed by an explosion and fire.

Taiwan English News reports:

An explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Taoyuan City left two injured and caused a fire early this afternoon, December 20.

People as far as Tamsui District in New Taipei City reported hearing the massive blast shortly after noon. Immediately after the blast, thick black smoke could be seen pouring out of the SCI Pharmtech factory.

The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.

Liberty Times reported that the factory produces hydroxychloroquine APIs [active pharmaceutical ingredients - TL], and is the world’s second largest HCQ raw material supplier.

A subsequent report indicates that one of the injured workers, a Filipino guest worker who suffered third degree burns over 90% of his body, has died. The explosion broke out around noon and set off subsequent explosions in volatile substances nearby.

The Taipei Times reports that company spokesmen state, "... it would take at least six months to rebuild the plant, as most production lines were damaged by the fire...."

Supplies may be tight, as the SCI Pharmtech had already expanded production and sales of HCQ APIs to meet growing demand:

The company reported cumulative revenue of NT$2.61 billion in the first 11 months of this year, up 18.19 percent from NT$2.21 billion in the same period last year, thanks to steady shipments of APIs for hydroxychloroquine

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Given the explosive character of some of the ingredients, there may well be a perfectly innocent explanation for the fire. But a six-month delay in resuming production may delay HCQ supplies to early stage Covid-19 patients, who could otherwise treat their affliction with it, combined with zinc and an antibiotic like azithromycin.

I’ve been to Taoyuan and visited industrial facilities there. It is very close to Taipei Taoyuan International Airport, the major international airport serving Taipei and Taiwan, and also to Hsinchu Science Park, a high-tech mecca, housing over 400 companies. This area is highly sophisticated and prosperous, and has a bullet train station connecting it to central Taipei in about half an hour’s travel time. It is not at all some third world backwater; quite the contrary.

#7  HCQ fell off the scope in the US, but not in the third world. Ever wonder why we dont hear about central america and africa being overwhelmed and in a raging pandemic? HCQ is commonly used there for malaria and many other things. Thats where the inadvertent but real research into early use of things like HCQ, zinc, ivermectin, vitamin D is being done by necessity - they dont have the hospitals or fancy medications, so they use what they have and administer it ASAP. They cannot afford to do "research" rigged to make HCQ look bad by witholding it until people are so sick they have to be put in the hospital. Thats bull, because HCQ and other things like that work agains tthe virus to keep it down, so giving it after the virus is already raging and has done damaget to the lungs is way too late because the virus is no longer the proble, the immune reaction to the damage is the problem.

The sacrifice of people to Trump Hatred and protecting Big Pharma will be a blight on the press forver.

Passengers open Delta jet cabin door, exit via slide at LaGuardia
[Fox5] NEW YORK - Two passengers on a Delta jet that was about to take off from New York City opened a cabin door and went down the emergency slide with a service dog on Monday morning.

Delta 462, an Airbus A321, was taxiing to the runway at LaGuardia Airport in Queens for its flight to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport when the passengers popped the door, a spokesperson for Delta told FOX 5 NY in an email.

Witnesses reported seeing an agitated-looking man, identified as Antonio Murdock, who was traveling with Brianna Greco, force open a cabin door and jump out using the emergency chute leading to the runway. He was quickly followed by the woman with the Great Dane puppy.

"The aircraft returned to the gate where the remaining customers deplaned normally and were accommodated on alternate flights," the spokesperson said. "Maintenance technicians have evaluated the aircraft and is scheduled to return to service this evening."

Delta 462 finally departed LaGuardia at 7:17 p.m., more than nine hours late, according to FlightAware.com.

"Mistakenly" unsealed affidavits disclose FBI investigating plot against grid
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The FBI is investigating three alleged white supremacists linked with a plot to attack power stations in the southeastern U.S., causing millions of dollars worth of damage, according to an affidavit that was mistakenly unsealed last week.

An Ohio teenager, a man from Wisconsin and a Texas native who was then a Purdue University student are named in the document that was filed under seal along with a search warrant application in Wisconsin's Eastern U.S. District Court in March.

No charges have yet been filed against the men and the document has now been resealed as the investigation continues, the Associated Press reported.
The possibility of a few riflemen inflicting massive damage on the power grid has been known for a long time, as evidenced by the 2013 "Metcalf attack". There has been little done to safeguard against this, along with the related vulnerability of lack of backup transformers and domestic production of same. Even Mylar balloons bought at the local dollar store can wreak great damage.

A quick Google scan didn't turn up other posts on this news item.

Plus they knocked out the fiber link to this station prior so the grid monitors never knew what was happening until well after the fact. They just thought that they had a downed comm link.

#4  Single point of failure analysis by trained analysts often eith looks too hard for complex threat risks or fails to see the third order fialure points.
Years ago i me mentioned here the SF story about an A Team Sf op with the USAF. The Red Team was a single Green Beret A Team who were challenged to demonstrate how to nullify an entire USAF B-52 wing. Over the weekend the base had heightened security around the aircraft and ordnance sites. The fuel farm was off limits as I recall. Monday came and the Wing Commander met with tue A Team and proudly proclaimed that his unit was fully mission capable for a strike anywhere in the world. The SF unit commander merely held up an oxygen mask dusfer with talcum power to represent a lethal contaminant and explaied that they had penetrated the Aircrew Life Support lockers and maintenance facilities thereby making OCONUS flights above 10000 feet impossible.
Single point of failure and low tech threat.

Still wondering if Trump will be issuing a broader Pardon covering Homemade Gun owners like (80% lowers for AR's, 1911 and some older model Glocks receivers).

Because I was already reading as far back as Oct. 2020 how the BIDEN/DOJ/ATF had already start laying the ground work to subpoena sales records of several gun parts vendors. With a goal to issue warrants for demanded registration starting sometime in early 2021. Followed by collections in later 2022-23

BTW: I have also ready read plans stated by Biden people to up the $200 short-barreled rifle registration fee to $2,500. If in case the courts slapped down the Illegal 2nd Amendment confiscations.

#7  Frank, yes it did. The FBI said the 700 bullet hole in their, Blackwater, vehicles could have already been there. They said the spent AK rounds on the ground could have already been there. They removed all evidence at the scene as not part of the shootings until the only evidence they had was the spent rounds from Blackwater in their vehicles. Many homes had lights on the outside eaves and even roof tops too. It was unknown to the outside world until '90 / '91 came along. Christmas tree circle was probably the ONLY place in the world where we had a real nativity each year. Real Camel, real goats, real child in a manger, real desert, real hay, real people in correct garb, real everything. It was just off M street. Christmas was a huge event. A few Saudis came over and celebrated with us families over the years. It was good. Then in later years it became awful...... such is life.

Peloton shares soar 12% to an all-time high after announcing it will crank up its manufacturing capacity by acquiring fitness equipment company Precor for $420M
[MAIL] Peloton shares rose by 12 per cent and hit an all-time high on Tuesday, hours after it announced it is cranking up its manufacturing capacity by acquiring fitness equipment provider Precor.

The maker of the popular high-end stationary bikes and accompanying monthly subscriptions said late Monday it will spend $420million to acquire Precor, a company whose fitness machines populate hundreds of commercial and hotel gyms.

The acquisition, Peloton's biggest to date, gives the company its first manufacturing capacity in the US, its biggest market, during a global pandemic that has people cancelling gym memberships and seeking ways to stay fit in the safety of their own homes.

Three French police shot dead, one injured responding to domestic violence attack
[France24] Three police were shot dead in Puy-de-Dome in central France on Wednesday after being called out to a domestic disturbance, the French Interior Ministry said in a statement. An operation is under way to find the suspect.

The police officers, including a fourth who was wounded in the incident, were shot by a 48-year-old man as they attempted to rescue a woman. The three officers killed were aged 21, 37 and 45 years old, the French Interior Ministry confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

Police approached the house shortly after midnight and were targeted by gunfire. The gunman initially shot and killed one officer and wounded another, before setting fire to the house.

Two further officers, responding to the scene, were then fired on and killed, according to the Clermont-Ferrand prosecutor's office. Officials said the woman had been safely rescued, and that at least seven elite tactical police officers remained on site.

Scarf Lady says she will retire after ‘overwhelming' holiday travel scandal
[NYP] WASHINGTON — Dr. Deborah Birx has announced she plans to retire after being outed on Sunday for not following her own holiday travel guidance, calling the experience "overwhelming."

In an interview with Newsy, the White House coronavirus task force coordinator said she would help the incoming Biden administration but then planned to head for the exits.

"I want the Biden administration to be successful," Birx said, noting that she has worked in the federal government since the Reagan administration in 1980.

"I will be helpful in any role that people think I can be helpful in and then I will retire," she went on.

"I will have to say, as a civil servant, I will be helpful through a period of time, and then I will have to say, this experience has been a bit overwhelming. It has been very difficult on my family ... I think what was done over the last week to my family."

The Onerous Karl Rove: Flynn's Martial Law Idea ‘Idiotic'– Powell's Lawsuits Could Be Debunked by ‘Any Idiot
[Breitbart] Fox News contributor Karl Rove on Tuesday criticized former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and lawyer Sidney Powell for the "idiotic" ideas they are pushing to President Donald Trump on overturning the results of the 2020 election.

Anchor John Roberts said, "I want to ask you about these meetings that the president has been having a close group of allies about what to do regarding what happens on January 6... that some members of the House may oppose the seating of electors from their states. And then there’s other things that have been kicked around, too, which the president denies, like bringing in the military to rerun elections in certain states. What do you make of all that?"

Rove said, "Talk about an idiotic idea. There’s no ability for any president to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1803, claiming that the issue has got to do with the hubbub around the election. No president would have the authority to do that. General Flynn may have served honorably in the military, but he is sure is heck, not a constitutional law scholar. And when it comes to giving good advice to the president about politics, he’s at the bottom of the list, in my opinion."

When asked about Sidney Powell, Rove said, Ms. Powell has peddled theories that have little basis in fact. The idea that Hugo Chavez from the grave was somehow involved in stealing this year’s election. She was poured out in a courtroom where all of her expect witnesses, one of them was so highly prized that he had to have a code name and could be revealed. She sold him as a highly expert military intelligence analyst. He turned out to be a mid-level computer program from Dallas who couldn’t even pass the entrance exam for the 305th Intelligence Brigade in intelligence school. He couldn’t pass the exams. He was her high-level advocate. She had another expert who that couldn’t tell the difference between election precincts in townships in Michigan and Minnesota and claimed 151 percent turnout in Wayne County, Michigan, when any idiot with access to Google and the county election returns could have seen that the turnout was 51 percent, not a 151. What she has done to sort of throw mud on the president through her antics is unbelievable. The president has been so ill-served by this crowd, and she’s chief among them."

SpaceX begins!
[FAA Filing]

FAA Filing here

SpaceX proposes to conduct Starship/Super Heavy launch operations from the Boca Chica Launch Site in Cameron County, Texas. The proposed operations would include suborbital launches and/or orbital launches. The action would also include the associated actions of tank tests, static fire engine tests, expansion of the vertical launch area (VLA) and solar farm, and construction of additional infrastructure.

PROJECT LOCATION
The Boca Chica launch site is located on SpaceX-owned land in Cameron County, Texas, near the cities of Brownsville and South Padre Island. The launch site consists of the VLA, which is controlled by the launch and landing control center (LLCC). The VLA is approximately 2.2 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border and the LLCC is approximately 1.3 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border. State Highway (SH) 4 provides access to the launch site and terminates directly adjacent to the VLA. The LLCC consists of a two-story building (referred to as Stargate) and is located west of the VLA along SH 4.

LAUNCH VEHICLE
The fully integrated launch vehicle is comprised of two stages: Super Heavy is the first stage (or booster), and Starship is the second stage. The fully integrated Starship/Super Heavy launch vehicle will be approximately 400 feet tall and 30 feet in diameter. Super Heavy will be equipped with up to 37 Raptor engines and Starship will employ up to six Raptor engines. The Raptor engine is powered by liquid oxygen and liquid methane.

OPERATIONS
TANK TESTS
Prior to conducting a suborbital launch of a Super Heavy or Starship prototype, SpaceX must conduct tank tests to ensure the tank's reliability. This involves performing pressure tests prior to performing a static fire engine test to confirm the structural integrity of the launch vehicle. During tank tests, SpaceX pressurizes the tank with gaseous media or liquid propellants.

PRE-FLIGHT OPERATIONS
Pre-flight operations include mission rehearsals and static fire engine tests. The goal of mission rehearsals is to verify that all vehicle and ground systems are functioning properly, as well as to verify that all procedures are properly written. After final systems checkout, SpaceX would conduct a mission rehearsal without propellants on the launch vehicle (referred to as a dry dress rehearsal), followed by a mission rehearsal with propellants on the launch vehicle (referred to as a wet dress rehearsal) to verify full launch readiness. In addition to conducting dress rehearsals, SpaceX would conduct static fire engine tests. The goal of a static fire engine test is to verify engine control and performance. A static fire engine test is identical to a wet dress rehearsal, except engine ignition occurs. During a static fire engine test, the launch vehicle engines are ignited for approximately 15–30 seconds and then shut down.

LAUNCHES
SpaceX is proposing to conduct suborbital and orbital launches. Launches would occur at the VLA and include landings of both stages at the VLA or on a platform (barge) in the Gulf of Mexico no closer than 12 miles off the coast.

CONSTRUCTION
SpaceX's proposed new launch-related construction activity consists of expanding the solar farm, adding infrastructure and facilities at the VLA, a liquid natural gas pretreatment system and a liquefier. At the VLA, SpaceX is proposing to construct a redundant launch pad and commodities, a redundant landing pad, two integration towers, tank structural test stands, and a desalination plant

If you look at the extreme hi-res photo in this tweet the upper left corner has 6 massive cement tubes in a circle pointing up. That is the initial construction of the first launch pad for StarShip Heavy. The two launch platforms on the right side of the photo are the launch pads for testing the second stages known as StarShips. The middle pad with a blown up StarShip SN-8 on it is the StarShip Test Landing Pad. Nobody knows if StarShip Heavy will attempt to land on that pad.
