Jogger was attacked by a dog ‐ and bitten by the dog's owner, California police say
[The Telegraph] A dog attacked a woman jogging in a Northern California park on Thursday ‐ but it wasn’t the canine whose bite left "significant wounds" on the jogger’s arm, according to police.

The dog’s owner punched, tackled and bit the jogger in Anthony Chabot Regional Park as the jogger returned from her run, the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department said in a news release. The jogger was bitten as she tried to shove the dog’s owner off of her.

"Based on the nature and severity of the crime, police are asking the public’s assistance to help identify this female," police said, releasing a picture of the suspected attacker.

The human-on-human assault came after the jogger pepper sprayed the dog around 10:25 a.m. as the animal tried to attack, police said. The female dog owner "accosted" the jogger on the Goldenrod Trail between the park’s equestrian center and the Oakland City Stables.

Teen girl, 12-year-old sister arrested for brutally killing their mom
[NYPOST] A 14-year-old and her 12-year-old sister were tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
for stabbing and shooting their mother to death ‐ a brutal payback after they were punished for trying to run her over with the family car, neighbors and officials in Mississippi said.

The teen, Amariyona Hall, and her younger sister were taken into custody late Friday after deputies in Pike County responded to the family’s mobile home in Magnolia, where Erica Hall, a 32-year-old mother of four, was found stabbed multiple times and shot once in the chest with a handgun, authorities said.

Emergency workers tried to resuscitate Hall, whose relatives found her bloodied outside her home just minutes earlier, but she could not be saved. Investigators then zeroed in on Hall’s daughters, Pike County Sheriff Kenny Cotton told the McComb Enterprise Journal.

"They found out the daughters ‐ two teenagers, juveniles ‐ allegedly did it," Cotton said, adding that both girls are scheduled for mental evaluations. "They’re charged with murder and we’re going to apply the law."

Cotton said deputies reported that Friday’s attack followed an incident days earlier in which the girls tried to run Hall over with the family’s car. That prompted Hall to punish her daughters, leading them to respond with the fatal assault, according to Sherlocks.

"With something like that, she should have made charges and had them arrested then," Cotton said of the earlier alleged assault.

Neighbors told WAPT that Hall was killed days after taking away her daughters’ cellphones. It wasn’t clear if the mom took the phones away before or after her daughters allegedly tried to mow her down.

Inmate insists syringes pulled from rectum aren’t his: cops
Ick.
[NYPOST] A Florida man who was busted for allegedly smuggling syringes in his rectum into jail claims that they don’t belong to him, according to officials.

Wesley Dasher Scott, 40, was initially busted on a marijuana charge. He then pulled three syringes from his body cavity during a strip search at Pinellas County Jail, news station WFLA reported.

Scott handed the syringes over to authorities and claimed he found them.

He was then booked on several drug charges, including possession of marijuana.

Authorities also slapped Scott with an additional charge of felony possession of contraband in a county detention facility.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
How author Brad Meltzer uncovered the secret plot to kill George Washington
Washington was kind of a bada$$.
[CBSNews] Best-selling author Brad Meltzer found the story behind his latest book, "The First Conspiracy: The Secret Plot to Kill George Washington," in a footnote. He said he took the surprising information to Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Joseph Ellis.

"I went to him and I said, 'Did this really happen?' And it really happened. When it happened, George Washington rounded up those responsible. He took one of the main conspirators and he hung him in front of 20,000 people ‐ the largest public execution at that point in North American history," Meltzer said Tuesday on "CBS This Morning." "He brought the hammer down, was like, 'I'm George Washington. Don't mess with me. I'm going to be on the money one day.'"

So how did the story of the plot get lost in history?

"Hanging happened on June 28, 1776. Guess what was happening in the world? The Declaration of Independence. The British were literally there and this gets lost to it," Meltzer said.

The book details an effort to undermine the American Revolution just before the signing of the Declaration of Independence and with British troops about to invade New York City. The plot connects counterfeiters, leading New York politicians and even the future president's own bodyguards. At the time, Washington had private bodyguards, Meltzer said, who were the "best of the best" from his regiments.

"These were the men who turned on him. They were called the lifeguards because they guarded George Washington's life. And I don't care how strong you are ‐ when your inner circle turns on you, it is devastating," Meltzer said.

Through the book, you come to know more about the birth of the counterintelligence movement in the U.S., Meltzer said. Washington launches a secret intelligence subcommittee to uncover espionage, with John Jay in charge. Jay went on to become the first chief justice of the United States.

"He puts into motion interrogations, kicking in doors. And to this day, we all think of the CIA, the precursor being the OSS [Office of Strategic Services], it's actually this moment," Meltzer said. The CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, even has a conference room named after Jay.

In addition, the book highlights Washington's character, as witnessed in the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776.

"What he does is he commandeers all of the boats on the East River, but here's the key moment: he won't get in the boat until all of his men get in first. And his men see what he's doing, he's risking his life for them. Again, what you see is not just the plot against George Washington, you see the depth of his character," Meltzer said.

"We need that in our leaders today," he added. "George Washington brought this country together... by putting his arms around them and saying to his own regiments, 'Don't fight with each other, don't argue [with] each other. We need to be on the same team.' That's where we are today," he said.

Top Court validates Rajoelina's election as Madagascar president
[AFRICANEWS] Madagascar’s High Constitutional Court on Wednesday validated the election of Andry Rajoelina as president in hotly contested run-off polls held on December 19, 2018.

The elections commission said Rajoelina had won 55.66 percent of the vote compared with 44.34 percent for Ravalomanana and turnout was just over 48 percent.

Ravalomanana’s camp disputed the results and filed papers seeking the court to invalidate the result. The court by law had nine days to decide whether to confirm the provisional results.

Today’s ruling indicates that Rajoelina’s election stands and he returns to the presidency after serving between 2009 and 2014. Ravalomanana, also served as president and was ousted in the 2009 coup that brought Rajoelina to power.

The EU observer mission said last week that the runoff election held on Dec. 19 had been calm and that observers had not witnessed fraud.

What is behind the sharp fall in number of Filipino workers in the Middle East?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Although the Middle East has become second home to about 2.5 million skilled Filipino workers, a decline in their employment has been noted in the last two years.

After 10 years of continuous growth, the deployment of Filipino workers to the Middle East went down by 9 percent in 2017 and recruitment agencies predict another 8 percent fall for the year 2018.

FALL IN REMITTANCES
The decrease in employment has been attributed to decline in oil prices and also to Philippine President Duterte’s policy of imposing a ban on household service workers to Kuwait.
The decision was taken following a case in which the remains of a Filipino worker’s body were found inside the freezer of his employer by Kuwaiti government authorities in 2018.
The decision was taken following a case in which the remains of a Filipino worker’s body were found inside the freezer of his employer by Kuwaiti government authorities in 2018. Furthermore, some Middle East governments have also been urging employers to hire locals to reduce unemployment in the region.

Last year, the fall in employment registered a 15 percent decline in remittances from Filipino workers in the Middle East. Remittances from Libya and Israel have fallen by as much as 73 percent and 61 percent respectively.

There are over 6 million Moslems in the Philippines and 2% of them are of Arab descent. Thus, the influence of Arab culture in the Philippines remains a binding force that continues to link the Philippines and countries in the Arab world and this has forced Filipino-Moslem workers to work in the Middle East.

Thus, with bleaker prospects for skilled Filipinos in the Middle East, these workers are now looking at other countries that are short of skilled professionals, like Japan and China.

In Japan, the country has already accepted 2,200 nurses and caregivers as part of the Japan-Philippine Economic Partnership Agreement to take care of Japan’s ageing population.

NEW SHORES
Moreover, Japan also announced that it is expected to have 50,000 new Filipino workers, following its new policy of calling in foreign workers in various industries for the next six years. A total of 50,000 vacancies will be on offer to skilled Filipinos who will work as nurses, farmers, construction workers, shipbuilders and professionals in the hospitality sector. These are also industries in the Middle East that employ most of Filipino workers.

Similarly, Chinese education sector also announced vacancies for 100,000 Filipino teachers to teach English in China. The Philippine government has already announced guidelines for interested Filipinos who want to apply as English teachers in China.

Philippine Labor Secretary Silvestro Bello has said that those interested to teach in China should be currently employed in private sector institutions of higher education, and must have their bachelor’s degree accredited by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

With this development, some private teachers have started showing interest to work in China because the salary on offer is around USD 1,200 monthly, which is three to four times more than the current salary of private teachers in the Philippines.

SECOND HOME
The Philippines is one of the world’s largest countries that sends its skilled workers around the world and has 10 million contract and off-shore workers. The offers from East Asian countries notwithstanding, Middle East today remains the second home for skilled Filipino workers.

But if Middle East policies on prioritizing locals for employment remain, and oil prices remain subdued, the next generation of skilled Filipinos may have to start looking at other countries for employment that and this will not make Middle East the dream work destination it once was for some skilled Filipino workers despite the strong historical and cultural ties between the Philippines and the Middle East.

Attacker hurts 20 children with hammer at Beijing school
[DAWN] A hammer-wielding man maimed 20 children in an attack at an elementary school in Beijing on Tuesday with three suffering serious injuries, local authorities said.

A male suspect was brought "under control" and the maimed pupils were admitted to hospital, the Xicheng district government said.

Surnamed Jia, the 49-year-old assailant was a contractor hired by the school for daily maintenance work. His contract was scheduled to terminate at the end of January, stated the district government on its official Twitter-like Weibo account in a post that has since been deleted.

Though the school was discussing another job posting for Jia, he used a hammer and attacked students to "vent his resentment", they said.

Police have taken "compulsory measures" against the suspect.

Beijing police did not immediately respond to AFP's request for comment.

Violent attacks targeting schoolchildren are not uncommon in China, which has seen a slew of deadly incidents over the past few years, usually involving knives.

Toronto police reminder - please remove clothes from corpse before making box donation
[Global News] Toronto Police say a woman trapped inside a clothing donation box was found dead early Tuesday morning.

Police said they were called after 1:30 a.m. with reports of a woman stuck inside of a clothing donation box near Bloor and Dovercourt.

When authorities arrived on scene, they had to cut a part of the metal box to get her out.

Police and paramedics treated the woman, who has been identified by friends as Crystal, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We are saddened at this terrible and tragic incident. We are in direct communication with police on this matter," they said in a statement.

Justice Ginsburg misses second day in a row at Supreme Court
[The Hill] Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was absent from the Supreme Court bench for the second day in a row on Tuesday.

Chief Justice John Roberts noted Ginsburg’s absence when the justices took their seats for the second time in the new year.

Repeating what he said Monday, Roberts said Ginsburg is "unable to be present" for the court’s sitting, but will participate in the decisions using transcripts of the arguments and court briefs.

Ginsburg, who was forced to miss her first oral argument in more than 25 years on Monday, is still recuperating at home after surgery to remove two cancerous nodules from the lower lobe of her left lung on Dec. 21.

The spots were found incidentally in an X-ray she had at George Washington University Hospital while being treated for fractured ribs, an injury she sustained after falling in her office on Nov. 7.

The Supreme Court said scans performed before surgery indicated no evidence of disease elsewhere in her body, and no further treatment is planned.

Ginsburg, 85, is known for her stamina, having already survived two bouts of cancer prior to this most recent diagnosis ‐ colon cancer in 1999 and pancreatic cancer in 2009.

Hell the Dems are fantasizing about giving her a day of their own life to prop her up for Gods sake. To remain working probably isn't in her best interest right now but feels the strong push from Dem's to stay being the selfish bastards they are.

I don't wish her any harm, however, that being said, I believe we are blessed that we may get another Conservative SCOTUS appointed under Trump. After Kavanaugh my God it'll be a s*** show, I predict popcorn sales going through the roof.

Red Lobster Caves to Left-Wing Blacklist Campaign, Pulls Ads from Tucker Carlson's Show
[Breitbart] Restaurant chain Red Lobster is the latest company to cave to pressure from the far-left blacklisting campaign against Tucker Carlson, announcing Tuesday that they would no long advertise on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight.

The Wrap reports that Red Lobster confirmed their removal of ads from Tucker Carlson’s prime time show, saying in a statement, "Red Lobster’s advertising buying guidelines reflect our core values and commitment to supporting programming that represents the highest standards of good taste, fair practice and objectivity."

"We reserve the right to make changes to our purchases when the dialogue is no longer in line with our criteria."

Red Lobster is the latest company to pull ads from Carlson’s show. He faced an ad boycott last month over comments criticizing American immigration policy, and he is once again in the crosshairs of the far-left over comments he made about many women who do not want to marry men who earn less than them.
