Mayor of Portland, OR: Please Help Us Unmask Rioters
[EpochTimes] Portland's mayor struck a new tone on Friday [4-23-2021] as he called for residents to help "unmask" people behind the continued violence in Oregon's largest city.

In his most urgent appeal yet, Mayor Ted Wheeler encouraged whoever has information about the self-described anarchists who are committing crimes in late-night riots to contact the police.
This is after over 200+ days of rioting

#1  More like 400+

Lil' Teddy's been "unmasked" -- as a lying POS weasel who was happy to let the rioters have their way while Trump was president. Changed his tune now that there's a Democrat on the WH

#2  Ah, if the DA won't prosecute whey report? Unless you are building lists of those few Porlandians who want something close to civilization to be 'police' up later or be doxxed?

#7  I would advise residents to tell the mayor to fuck off. It's obviously a ruse to get details of all those who report such crimes.

Some wakandan or secret antifa grunt in the establishment will be used to release addresses of all who reported on these terrorists and they will find themselves hunted.

The normalcy of riots, food rationing, electricity rationing, the removal of civic order, acceptance of violence, self defense is a health issue. Health issues as governable social issues. Anyone else starting to feel like a bowling pin?

#10  "Just say no". Who gives a crap if Portland burns to the ground? It might be an improvement. The suburbs of Detroit haven't significantly noticed the "lack" of a city center, despite liberal whining about the ongoing death of the city for numerous decades.

#12  Maybe I'm missing something but if you actually arrested a few rioters, and didn't let them go an hour later, you might be able to figure out who they are. In fact you might find they give up a few friends when threatened with taking the fall for hundreds of days of damage.

Fighting breaks out in Somalia's capital after president’s term extended
It’s not enough that they have jihadis to fight, but they have to fight among themselves over who gets to loot the place while they do so.
[Garowe] Heavy festivities erupted in Mogadishu between government forces and mutinous soldiers opposed to the illegal term extension of outgoing president Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo.

The battle began after the mutineers who deserted their bases in the Middle Shabelle region have poured into the seaside capital last night and took control of key villages in the north, including Fagah and Sana.

The skirmish spread into most parts of the capital on Sunday evening with opposition candidates reported their residences came under attack from pro-government forces, mainly Ottoman Turkish-trained units.

The renewed festivities in Mogadishu have erupted after the Lower House chamber of the Somali parliament has unilaterally extended the mandate of Farmajo by two more years on April 12 without Senate approval.
Farmajo’s predecessor Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who now leads an opposition alliance termed a "very unfortunate" that SNA forces under the command of the ex-president attacked his residence in the Marino area.

"I have already warned and reiterated the dangers of politicizing the security sector. Farmajo is responsible for the consequences of this attack," said Mohamud in a Twitter post.

Another leading opposition candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame said his house came under attack, accusing Farmajo of being behind the assault and will shoulder the consequences of this action.

In a statement, the council of the presidential candidates has strongly condemned attacks on the residences of former president and Wadajir party leader Warsame in Mogadishu by Farmajo’s army.

The opposition alliance said Gorgor forces who are trained and funded by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
were actively involved in the attack, accusing spy chief Fahan Yasin of transporting ammunition from AMISOM to use the raid.
Turkey has trained and equipped fifteen battalions of the red-bereted Somali GorGor forces, ostensibly to fight Al Shabaab, and an unknown number of the Haram'ad special police.
The Somali government has denied the accusations. Outgoing Security Minister Hassan Hundubey said the troops have been providing protection to the former presidents in Mogadishu and not attacking them.

The minister said the government is deeply concerned about the grave allegations from Hassan Sheikh and added: "All our heads of state are highly protected by the national guard and any threat to them remains a matter of huge concern to the FGS."

Details of the casualties remained sketchy.

The UK’s embassy in Somalia has voiced alarm over the violence in Mogadishu, calling for calm and restraint while highlighting the importance of peaceful dialogue which served the country’s interests.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter awoke groggily, his hand still stuck in the Ming vase...
the EU mission in the country highly concerned about the ongoing events in Mogadishu, says violence is unacceptable and those responsible will be held accountable.

The renewed festivities in Mogadishu have erupted after the Lower House chamber of the Somali parliament has unilaterally extended the mandate of Farmajo by two more years on April 12 without Senate approval.

Tunisia's Saied Refuses to Meet with Ghannouchi, Mechichi to Resolve Political Crisis
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Tunisia’s President Kais Saied refused a proposal to attend a round table meeting with Parliament Speaker Rached Ghannouchi and Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi, according to leader in Ennahda Movement Ali Larayedh.

Ghannouchi proposed organizing the dialogue, in an attempt to overcome the ongoing four-month-long political crisis in the country, said Larayedh.

Saied also refused to organize a national dialogue and ignored an initiative in this regard by the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT).

Observers consider Saied’s position a "disruption to the constitution" that enabled him to win the presidential race, he added, affirming that the disagreement among various parties "is not simple" but could be resolved through negotiations.

Larayedh also accuses Saied of "disrespecting" other parties, which led to the failure of all dialogue attempts.

He further refused to "play his constitutional role, which stipulates holding meetings with the PM and the parliament speaker to consult, define the state policy and preserve Tunisia’s supreme interest."

Libyan MP: Mercenaries Must Leave Libya Before Elections in December
[LIBYAREVIEW] Member of Parliament (MP), Misbah Douma, said that the presence of mercenaries threatens the lives of Libyans and affects political decisions in the country, especially the December elections.

In a statement, Douma also noted that the security of the ballot box is in danger of the presence of foreign armed forces on Libyan soil.

Last month, Douma affirmed that removing all foreign forces from Libyan is a demand that cannot be waived. He added that this demand will be present in all international and local forums.

In a tweet, Douma described the stay of any foreign forces on Libyan soil as a betrayal of the sacrifices of Libyans.

Britain
Manchester Arena Bomber's Brother ISIS Link Discovered Before Attack
[LIBYAREVIEW] The British daily national newspaper based in London, The Times, reported that security services had found turban content on Ishmale Abedi’s phone, two years before the Manchester Arena attack occurred. The terrorist content was found on the Facebook account of Ishmale Abedi, the Manchester Arena bomber’s older brother, two years before the attack that killed 22 people.

Authorities discovered a photo of a Jordanian air force pilot whose plane went down in Syria in 2014 when they searched the account. ISIS pilots shot down First Lieutenant Muath al-Kasasbeh’s F-16 fighter jet and burned him to death as a prisoner. "Looking for seasoned firewood," Ishmale captioned a photo of al-Kasasbeh taken shortly before he was set on fire.

Ishmale was also photographed sitting next to the son of Abu Anas al-Libi, a senior al-Qaeda official. A pistol was in the hands of the son. Ishmale was also seen carrying a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, an anti-aircraft gun, and a machine gun, according to the account. In one, he was dressed in camouflage with an Isis flag engulfed in fire behind him, the British newspaper said.

Dozens of detained Crimean Tatars moved from Crimea
Direct translation of the korrespondent.net article
53 arrested Crimean Tatars were taken from the annexed Crimea peninsula to the pre-trial detention center and prisons of the Russian Rostov-on-Don. On Sunday, April 25, reports Crimea with reference to lawyer Emil Kurbdenov.

"Dozens of military judges, military prosecutors, six hidden witnesses or even more, examinations, dozens of volumes of criminal cases - this is just what is now in Rostov-on-Don, where there are already more than 50 political prisoners (from Crimea - ed.) In the investigation the isolation wards pass through these millstones of the military court, "the lawyer said.

He specified that the Crimean Tatars were convicted and arrested for religious and political reasons.

As reported, on Thursday the FSB conducted searches in the houses of the Crimean Tatars in Crimea under the pretext of "conducting investigative actions" - allegedly the police received an anonymous call about the impending explosions on the peninsula.

More from korrespondent.net:
Ukrainians are illegally persecuted on political charges, some of them are military and Crimean Tatars. More than 250 people are considered missing.

In Russia, 114 Ukrainians are being illegally detained on political charges, of which 15 are in Crimea. Another 280 Ukrainians are being illegally detained in ORDLO. This was stated by Lyudmila Denisova in an interview with RBC-Ukraine on Thursday, April 22.

In total, 133 Ukrainians are prosecuted on political charges in the Russian Federation.

"Of these, 114 are in prison, of which 15 are in the temporarily occupied Crimea, 99 are directly in the Russian Federation. 66 people are sentenced to long terms, the remaining 48 are under trial and investigation. Most of them, 78 people, are citizens of Ukraine. of Crimean Tatar nationality, "Denisova said.

According to her, in the part of Donbass temporarily not controlled by the government, there are 236 civilians among illegal political prisoners, including four volunteers.

"Also - 40 servicemen (36 from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and 4 from the Ministry of Internal Affairs), as well as 4 members of volunteer battalions. And another 258 people are reported missing. This is the most relevant information at the moment," the Ombudsman summed up.

Earlier it became known how many residents of ORDLO received passports of the Russian Federation . The separatists are closing checkpoints under the guise of fighting the coronavirus, but in reality they are trying to widen the severance of ties with Ukraine, the ombudsman said.

BLM Co-Founder Calls for 'Abolished' Criminal Justice System
[BREITBART] Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors posted a video to her Instagram page Thursday saying people must "fight" for an "abolished" criminal justice system after the murder of George Floyd and police-involved shooting of Ma’Khia Bryant.

She did say that the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd was a "victory in accountability" but not a victory in getting rid of the criminal justice system.

"While we watched Derek Chauvin be convicted for murder, a black child named Ma’Khia Bryant was murdered by police, proving there is no justice. We must fight for abolition because in an abolitionist world, we would still have George Floyd and Ma’Khia Bryant," Cullors wrote in her Instagram post.

She said in the video that activists must "fight for more" and "get us closer to a place where there are no jails or prisons or surveillance" in the U.S.
"I need another mansion"
A jury found Chauvin guilty of all charges Tuesday for murdering Floyd after he kneeled on Floyd’s neck for several minutes during an arrest in Minneapolis in May 2020.

Jut minutes before Chauvin’s conviction, Bryant was fatally shot by a police officer after brandishing a knife in Columbus, Ohio.

Turkey Detains Chief of Cryptocurrency Firm as Market Implodes
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
on Saturday detained the chief of one of the country’s biggest cryptocurrency firms after launching a manhunt for the founder of another exchange who fled to Albania.
"Curly-toed wingtips don't fail me now!"
The Ottoman Turkish crypto boom threatens to go bust quickly as companies fold and President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
’s government prepares to rein in the unregulated digital currency market.

The volume of crypto purchases in the nation of 84 million people rose 10-fold between November and March as Turks sought ways to preserve their savings during a steady drop in the value of the lira currency.

But the market began to unravel when the Istanbul-based Thodex exchange’s founder Faruk Fatih Ozer fled to Albania holding a reported $2 billion in investors’ assets this week.

Thodex reportedly shut down while holding investments from nearly 400,000 users, AFP reported.

Turkey issued an international arrest warrant and detained dozens of Thodex employees in raids staged across the country on Friday.

Officials also blocked the account of the Vebitcoin exchange — one of Turkey’s five-largest — and launched an investigation after it abruptly ceased operation citing financial reasons.

Local news reports said police detained Vebitcoin chief executive Iker Bas and three other company employees on Saturday as part of a broader fraud probe.

"Due to the recent developments in the crypto money industry, our transactions have become much more intense than expected," Vebitcoin said on its website.

"We would like to state with regret that this situation has led us to a very difficult process in the financial field. We have decided to cease our activities in order to fulfil all regulations and claims."

Data shared with AFP by the Chainalysis and Kaiko crypto analytics firms show the daily volume of all crypto purchases in Turkey rising from around 500 million liras ($60 million) in November to as much as six billion liras in March.

Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq files lawsuits against the deputy commissioner of Mosul
[SHAFAQ] Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq Movement in Nineveh filed lawsuits today against the deputy commissioner of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, after he accused people of corruption and claiming they belong to the movement.

According to the complaint filed by the movement's lawyer, the deputy commissioner of Mosul, Zuhair al-Araji, "issued an official book that includes the names of several people who do not belong to the Asa'ib movement, and falsely annexed them to it, as part of a campaign of distortion and abuse launched from time to time on social media platforms."

The complaint indicated, "the people whom al-Araji claimed they are affiliated with us, belong to another political party. We do not rule out the possibility that al-Araji knows their political reference and covers up to them by falsely annexing them to our movement in order to defame us and delude the public opinion."

Israel closes Gaza fishing zone in response to Palestinian rockets
[Jpost] The IDF will respond powerfully if rocket fire from Gaza continues, the security cabinet decided on Monday after an hours-long debate.

The cabinet authorized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz to instruct the IDF to react strongly if Gazan terrorist groups launch more rockets on the heels of a weekend that saw more than 40 rockets launched into southern Israel.

The ministers also voted in favor of an operational plan to strike Hamas.

UN Special Envoy Tor Wennesland and Egypt said Hamas does not want an escalation, Maj.-Gen. Ghassan Alian, coordinator of government activities in the territories (COGAT), told the security cabinet.

Terrorists launched three rockets from Gaza into Israel in the early hours of Monday morning. Iron Dome missiles intercepted two, and one projectile exploded inside the Gaza Strip. More than 40 rockets have been launched from the Gaza Strip into the South since violence began on Friday.

The IDF responded with fighter jets and tank fire on Friday, but it refrained from doing so since then. On Monday, the army denied reports it had reinforced troops near the Gaza Strip.
About 250 Palestinians held protests and burned tires near the security fence in several venues, the IDF said. The army dispersed them with tear gas.

Early Monday morning, Alian said the Gaza Strip fishing zone would be completely closed starting at 6 a.m. until further notice.

COGAT had issued an earlier statement that the fishing zone would be restricted from 15 to nine nautical miles. But after more rockets were fired, the decision was made to completely close it.

Science & Technology
The big Pentagon internet mystery now partially solved
[AyPee] A very strange thing happened on the internet the day President Joe Biden was sworn in. A shadowy company residing at a shared workspace above a Florida bank announced to the world’s computer networks that it was now managing a colossal, previously idle chunk of the internet owned by the U.S. Department of Defense.

That real estate has since more than quadrupled to 175 million addresses — about 1/25th the size of the current internet.

”It is massive. That is the biggest thing in the history of the internet,” said Doug Madory, director of internet analysis at Kentik, a network operating company. It’s also more than twice the size of the internet space actually used by the Pentagon.

After weeks of wonder by the networking community, the Pentagon has now provided a very terse explanation for what it’s doing. But it has not answered many basic questions, beginning with why it chose to entrust management of the address space to a company that seems not to have existed until September.

The military hopes to “assess, evaluate and prevent unauthorized use of DoD IP address space,” said a statement issued Friday by Brett Goldstein, chief of the Pentagon’s Defense Digital Service, which is running the project. It also hopes to “identify potential vulnerabilities” as part of efforts to defend against cyber-intrusions by global adversaries, who are consistently infiltrating U.S. networks, sometimes operating from unused internet address blocks.

The statement did not specify whether the “pilot project” would involve outside contractors.

The Pentagon periodically contends with unauthorized squatting on its space, in part because there has been a shortage of first-generation internet addresses since 2011; they now sell at auction for upwards of $25 each.

Madory said advertising the address space will make it easier to chase off squatters and allow the U.S. military to “collect a massive amount of background internet traffic for threat intelligence.”

Some cybersecurity experts have speculated that the Pentagon may be using the newly advertised space to create “honeypots,” machines set up with vulnerabilities to draw hackers. Or it could be looking to set up dedicated infrastructure — software and servers — to scour traffic for suspect activity.

“This greatly increases the space they could monitor,” said Madory, who published a blog post on the matter Saturday.

What a Pentagon spokesman could not explain Saturday is why the Defense Department chose Global Resource Systems LLC, a company with no record of government contracts, to manage the address space.

“As to why the DoD would have done that I’m a little mystified, same as you,” said Paul Vixie, an internet pioneer credited with designing its naming system and the CEO of Farsight Security.

The company did not return phone calls or emails from The Associated Press. It has no web presence, though it has the domain grscorp.com. Its name doesn’t appear on the directory of its Plantation, Florida, domicile, and a receptionist drew a blank when an AP reporter asked for a company representative at the office earlier this month. She found its name on a tenant list and suggested trying email. Records show the company has not obtained a business license in Plantation.

Incorporated in Delaware and registered by a Beverly Hills lawyer, Global Resource Systems LLC now manages more internet space than China Telecom, AT&T or Comcast.

The only name associated with it on the Florida business registry coincides with that of a man listed as recently as 2018 in Nevada corporate records as a managing member of a cybersecurity/internet surveillance equipment company called Packet Forensics. The company had nearly $40 million in publicly disclosed federal contracts over the past decade, with the FBI and the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency among its customers.

That man, Raymond Saulino, is also listed as a principal in a company called Tidewater Laskin Associates, which was incorporated in 2018 and obtained an FCC license in April 2020. It shares the same Virginia Beach, Virginia, address — a UPS store — in corporate records as Packet Forensics. The two have different mailbox numbers. Calls to the number listed on the Tidewater Laskin FCC filing are answered by an automated service that offers four different options but doesn’t connect callers with a single one, recycling all calls to the initial voice recording.

Saulino did not return phone calls seeking comment, and a longtime colleague at Packet Forensics, Rodney Joffe, said he believed Saulino was retired. Joffe, a cybersecurity luminary, declined further comment. Joffe is chief technical officer at Neustar Inc., which provides internet intelligence and services for major industries, including telecommunications and defense.

In 2011, Packet Forensics and Saulino, its spokesman, were featured in a Wired story because the company was selling an appliance to government agencies and law enforcement that let them spy on people’s web browsing using forged security certificates.

The company continues to sell “lawful intercept” equipment, according to its website. One of its current contracts with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is for “harnessing autonomy for countering cyber-adversary systems.” A contract description says it is investigating “technologies for conducting safe, nondisruptive, and effective active defense operations in cyberspace.” Contract language from 2019 says the program would “investigate the feasibility of creating safe and reliable autonomous software agencies that can effectively counter malicious botnet implants and similar large-scale malware.”

Deepening the mystery is Global Resource Systems’ name. It is identical to that of a firm that independent internet fraud researcher Ron Guilmette says was sending out email spam using the very same internet routing identifier. It shut down more than a decade ago. All that differs is the type of company. This one’s a limited liability corporation. The other was a corporation. Both used the same street address in Plantation, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale.

“It’s deeply suspicious,” said Guilmette, who unsuccessfully sued the previous incarnation of Global Resource Systems in 2006 for unfair business practices. Guilmette considers such masquerading, known as slip-streaming, a ham-handed tactic in this situation. “If they wanted to be more serious about hiding this they could have not used Ray Saulino and this suspicious name.”

#2  So, USA spying on Israel & sharing the info with Israel's enemies - that's hardly news to anybody in Israel.

#4  And the Iranians believed something John Kerry said? Why?

An errand boy, sent by grocery clerks...

I'm curious as to why the Iranians would burn Kerry as a source. Maybe because it doesn't really matter to the people doing the actual leaking.

#5  Why would the Iran FM mock Kerry?

Perhaps, Kerry is such a mockable fool that it is just too much fun.

#7  John probably told Iran as they both sat on the same side of the negotiating table.

The Capital police missed their ‘neck shooting’ opportunity when John was protesting the Vietnam war.

Or should we just settle into what we always figured, title grants him the power of a Secretary of State but without all the pesky oversight.

#9  Hot Air reports that the John F. Kerry leaks — over 200 of ‘em — occurred in 2015, when he was Baracke Obama’s secretary of state. Fascinating that the New York Times feels compelled to reveal this now.

Iran again unveils masses of small kamikaze drones
[Jpost] It appears that it’s not a regular week in Iran unless the country is showing off more drones and warning about how it can strike at Israel or everywhere else in the Middle East. People are taking notice as well because US Central Command head Kenneth McKenzie has warned that US air superiority has suffered due to Iran’s drone threat.

The latest is a ceremony where Iran showed off a series of small drones, some of which look like the usual Iranian kamikaze drones, often modelled after their Ababil series. This type of drone, as well as the Qasef, have been exported to Yemen. Tehran said this week that “the Iranian Army Ground Force has unveiled seven domestically-developed high-tech military achievements, including air defense systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and electronic warfare devices.”

Iran has also created new radar for drones, according to Press TV. “The Taha 1400 system uses directional antennas to intelligently cover a wide area of operation, and maintains the flight safety of various drones in the enemy’s locale. The system is smart and light, a low-voltage consumer and can be installed quickly and easily. Finally, a land-based jamming system used for countering hostile drones and remote-controlled systems were among the new military achievements unveiled on Sunday.”

Iran also says it has a new Ground Forces Ranesh-1 (Propulsion-1) micro turbojet engine, which can be used in various drones, single-seat light aircraft, a wide array of missile systems, and unmanned boats. “The turbojet engine is light enough to generate high-speed thrust, runs on different types of fuel, has a high service ceiling compared to piston engines, can carry payloads, and can considerably boost the flight endurance record in a variety of drones," it said.

The other home-grown products included self-protection and drone-mounted TIAM 1400 system for detection of the enemy’s radars and air surveillance.

Iran's top diplomat, in leaked recording, offers blunt comments about Russia, Soleimani
[Jpost] A recording of Iran's foreign minister offering a blunt appraisal of diplomacy and the limits of power within the Islamic Republic has been leaked, providing a rare look inside the country's theocracy.

The release of the comments by Mohammad Javad Zarif set off a firestorm within Iran, where officials carefully mind their words amid a cut-throat political environment that includes the powerful paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, ultimately overseen by the country's supreme leader. Zarif has been suggested as a possible candidate for Iran's June 18 presidential election as well.

Outside of Iran, Zarif's comments could also affect talks in Vienna aimed at finding a way for Tehran and the U.S. to both come into compliance with Iran's 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. Already, sabotage targeted Iran's nuclear facility at Natanz during the talks as Tehran has begun enriching a small amount of uranium up to 60% purity, which edges the country closer to weapons-grade levels.

After the leak became public, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh did not dispute the tape's authenticity. He told journalists on Monday that the recording represented just a portion of a seven-hour interview Zarif gave to a well-known economist that was to be held for posterity by a think tank associated with the Iranian presidency.

Iran International shared a file with a little over three hours of the interview with an Associated Press correspondent based in the United Arab Emirates on Monday.

In the interview, Zarif describes Russia as wanting to stop the nuclear deal, something apparently so sensitive that he warns the interviewer: "You definitely can never release this part." Russia had a frosty relationship with then-President Barack Obama, whose administration secured the deal with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Russia and Iran also at times have strained relations, despite being battlefield allies in Syria.

"If Iran hadn’t become Mr. (Donald) Trump’s priority, China and Russia would have become his priority," Zarif said. "If, because of hostility with the West, we always need Russia and China, they don’t have to compete with anyone, and also they can always enjoy maximum benefits through us."

Both China and Russia have been vocal proponents of returning to the nuclear deal. Their missions in Vienna did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

The recordings also include Zarif offering criticism of Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani's separate relations with Russia as well. A U.S. drone strike in 2020 killed Soleimani in Baghdad, an attack that at the time brought the U.S. and Iran to the brink of war. Soleimani's funeral processions in Iran drew millions of people to the streets.

"I have sacrificed diplomacy for the battlefield more than the price that (those on) the battlefield (led by Soleimani) ... paid and sacrificed for diplomacy," Zarif said. He added that Iran gave up much of what it "could have achieved from the nuclear deal" for the sake of advancement on the battlefield.

He added that Soleimani refused to stop using the national carrier Iran Air for Syrian operations despite Zarif's objections. Iran Air has been sanctioned by the U.S., exasperating a long-running crisis that forced it fly decades-old aircraft, often lacking parts for repairs.
