Judge Demands Answers After IRS Contradicts Sworn Testimony
[DAILYCALLER] U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan Thursday ordered the Internal Revenue Service to come up with new answers after IRS employees contradicted sworn testimony about damage to Lois Lerner
...the former head of the IRS Exempt Unit. She is a past president of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws and a member of the Massachussetts bar. She was held in contempt of Congress for her role in the IRS targeting of regime political enemies and refusing to testify. The dog ate her computer's hard drive with all her emails on it...
's hard drive.

Sullivan ruled that "the IRS is hereby ORDERED to file a sworn Declaration, by an official with the authority to speak under oath for the Agency, by no later than August 22, 2014″ on four issues: the IRS' attempted recovery of Lerner's lost emails after her computer allegedly crashed, bar codes that could have been on the hard drive, IRS policies on hard drive destruction, and information about an outside vendor who worked on IRS hard drives.

Recent documents from nonprofit group Judicial Watch's Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the IRS, which Sullivan is presiding over, showed that IRS technology officials contradicted sworn testimony about damage to Lerner's hard drive.

Aaron Signor, an IRS technician that looked at Lerner's hard drive in June 2011, said in IRS court filings that he saw no damage to the drive before sending it off to another IRS technician, leading some in the media to suggest that the lost emails scandal is basically over. But Signor's statement, issued in response to the Judicial Watch lawsuit, does not jibe with sworn congressional testimony.

The Daily Caller reported that Lerner's hard drive was "scratched" and then "shredded," according to a court filing the IRS made to the House Committee on Ways and Means.

#1  If the judge would jug a few of these people for contempt/obstruction of justice/destruction of evidence at this time, it might be motivating for them and others in the IRS who have knowledge of what was going on. If they can be caught in a lie, get them for perjury. Of course, these a-holes might be such ideologues that they might fall of their swords. Federal judges have considerable power. You don't want to play games with them. They can make you sorry.

#2  It's no surprise that the techie's testimony doesn't jibe with that of his bosses.

Texas' Perry Charged With Coercion For Veto Threat
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] A grand jury indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Friday for allegedly abusing the powers of his office by carrying out a threat to veto funding for state prosecutors investigating public corruption - making the possible 2016 presidential hopeful his state's first indicted governor in nearly a century.

A special prosecutor spent months calling witnesses and presenting evidence that Perry broke the law when he promised publicly to nix $7.5 million over two years for the public integrity unit, which is run by Travis County Democratic District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg's office. It's the same office that indicted U.S. Rep. Tom Delay as part of a finance probe.

Several top aides to the Republican governor appeared before grand jurors in Austin, including his deputy chief of staff, legislative director and general counsel. Perry himself did not testify, though.

Grand jurors indicted Perry on abuse of official capacity, a first-degree felony with potential punishments of five to 99 years in prison, and coercion of a public servant, a third-degree felony that carries a punishment of two to 10 years.

A front man for the governor didn't immediately return messages seeking comment.

No one disputes that Perry is allowed to veto measures approved by the Legislature, including part or all of the state budget. But the left-leaning Texans for Public Justice government watchdog group filed an ethics complaint accusing the governor of coercion because he threatened to use his veto before actually doing so in an attempt to pressure Lehmberg to quit.

#1  he threatened to use his veto before actually doing so......

Something the Champ does on a near daily basis.

#2  So the basic mechanisms of checks&balances are now indictable offenses?

#3  Article leaves out that Perry was trying to force Lemerg to quit after being arrested for DUI. DA Lemberg refused, so Perry vetod Budger. Google for the video of her 0.238 Alcohol DUI arrest. She was abusive and had to be placed in restraints. Rather important facts they excluded

This is her revenge.

And FYI, that indictment of Tom DeLay ended up being tossed out as prosecutorial abuse.

#5  Ah, yes. Once again, Welcome to The People's Republic of Travis County.
This highlights some of the things wrong with the Texas state grand jury system, but anything they do to try to fix it would likely make it worse. (Aside from a neutron bomb.)

#6  I saw the dash cam of her sobriety testing. It wasn't pretty. She had difficulty following instructions, the nystagmus test, and balance. She staggered when not performing the tests. She was also threatening. She said: "You have not heard the end of this." Her booking was also a gem. The police ended up restraining her. She is a Democrat.

#7  Perry has a right to veto. Perry also has a right to preface the veto with why he is doing so, even though he is not required to do so.

Perry has been indicted by a special prosecutor answering to Lehmberg, for trying to restore the Public Integrity Unit’s image.

#9  I fantasize being called up to serve on a Grand Jury for some such political hatchet job and returning a bill against the prosecutor for barratry and abuse of power...

#10  The "indictment" itself seems illegal. Very creative.

#11  Barratry in Texas is a misdemeanor for the first offense. It would be much better to go after the prosecutor with the anti SLAPP statute.

Signed into law by...Gov. Perry.
