Congress Person Dodges Accusations; Joins Law Firm
Rep. Rob Andrews (D-N.J.) plans to resign from Congress later this month to take a job with a Philadelphia law firm, according to a senior House aide familiar with his plans.
Perfect! He's been in Congress since 1990 - enough time for a college professor to pick up enough lawfare to work for shysters.
Andrews has faced allegations that he violated House rules and federal law by using campaign funds to pay for personal trips to Scotland and Los Angeles and by using a graduation party for his daughter to raise campaign cash.
I bet all the 'contributors' gave his kid really nice gifts, too!

#2  Remember, when they 'retire' they get to convert their 'reelection' funds to personal use.

#1  Liberal thought and greed in action at the expense of the people and our freedoms leads to utter failure.

#2  Same thing happened in Waxahatchee, Tx. Does anyone remember the 'Superconducting Supercollider'? Threw families off of farms they had been on for over a hundred years. Cancelled the project (it was Speaker Jim Wright's pet project), but nobody can get the land back. The chief use of the tunnel that they dug is paperwork storage and mushroom growing, which I think is a perfect metaphor for government projects.

New York City public school kids getting new Muslim, Lunar New Year holidays
New York City is moving to close school for two Muslim holidays and the Lunar New Year — but Mayor de Blasio isn’t so sure about the Hindu festival Diwali.

Appearing on WNYC’s “Brian Lehrer Show” on Monday, the mayor said he hadn’t taken a position on whether Diwali, the festival of lights celebrated in India and other South Asian countries, should be a day off from school.

But he said he’d move forward with closing schools for Lunar New Year and for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, Muslim holy days.
“It is complicated in terms of logistics and school calendar and budget. But it’s something I want to get done in a reasonable time frame,” he said.

A spokesman for the Indian community appealed to the mayor to recognize the Hindu holiday.

“We are disappointed. We’ve been trying for a long time … It’s very important for the community,” said Dr. Shashi Shah of the Association of Indians in America.

Ethnic communities have pushed for all four holidays to be recognized. Former Mayor Bloomberg opposed the change, saying kids should not miss more school.

#1  Three less days to miseducate the kids. If we look hard enough I bet we could find religious reasons for 365 different days - except Christmas and Yom Kippur.

#5  Sure, have all religious holidays observed in the Greater New York City area, no sweat. The kids will only be in school for 98 days out of 365 days in a year.

Hey and while you are at it, repeal the child labor laws, so the city can ask them to pay for their own education when they do attend school.
