NY State Senator Kruger pleads guilty to taking $1m in bribes
[Iran Press TV] State Senator Carl Kruger who for months had insisted on his innocence, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to federal corruption charges, admitting that he conspired to accept at least $1 million in bribes, which prosecutors have said supported a lavish lifestyle.

Kruger, an influential Democrat and 16-year politician, stood before Judge Jed S. Rakoff in United States District Court in Manhattan and pleaded guilty to four of the five counts in the indictment against him. The charges included two counts of fraud conspiracy, for which he could face up to 20 years in prison each, and two counts of bribery conspiracy, which carry a maximum term of five years each.

Before his plea, Kruger submitted a letter of resignation to the Senate, saying, "I hereby resign my office as state senator for the 27th District, Kings County, effective immediately." By pleading guilty to a felony, Kruger would have automatically lost his job.
Ah, sounds like there's pension in play here. Probably a damn nice one...
I wondered about that. And pro'ly a law that says you can't take back a convicted pol's pension under any circumstances...
The broad corruption investigation, which also resulted in the arrests of Assemblyman William F. Boyland Jr., two hospital executives, a lobbyist and a developer, indicated that Kruger used the money to live beyond his means; a prime example of that; prosecutors said, was his mansion in Mill Basin, Brooklyn, where he lived with two gynecologist brothers and their mother.

One of the brothers, Michael Turano, was also charged with all five counts, but pleaded guilty to a single bribery conspiracy count, for which he would face a maximum of five years in prison.

#6  Originally a NYT story. Guess it was so toxic (especially to the Democrats), even they couldn't ignore it.

Matt Damon dismisses Barack Obama as 'one-term president'
In his most ferocious attack to date, the Hollywood star vented his anger at the President's failure to bring about change in America.

He said: "I've talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level. One of them said to me, 'Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician,'".
So you guys can be educated. Color me impressed. A little...
"You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better."

His latest attack was made in an interview for Elle magazine to promote his new film "We Bought a Zoo."

Damon, 41, was one of the biggest Hollywood stars to stump for Obama during his 2008 election campaign. He attended fund raising events and was vocal in his support for the Democrat who was elected on a mandate of "change" and "hope".

But over the last year the "Bourne Identity" star has changed his opinion -- and been more than happy to publicise his disenchantment. In March, he criticised Obama's education policy, saying "I really think he misinterpreted his mandate.

"A friend of mine said to me the other day, I thought it was a great line, 'I no longer hope for audacity.' He's doubled down on a lot of things."

President Obama even mentioned Damon's change of heart during this year's White House Correspondent's Ball. He said: "I've even let down my key core constituency: movie stars. Just the other day, Matt Damon -- I love Matt Damon, love the guy -- Matt Damon said he was disappointed in my performance. Well, Matt, I just saw "The Adjustment Bureau," so -right back atcha, buddy."
Ohhhhhhh, cat fight!

Michelle Obama’s Unsavory School Lunch Flop
The road to gastric hell is paved with first lady Michelle Obama’s Nanny State intentions. Don’t take my word for it. School kids in Los Angeles have blown the whistle on the east wing chef-in-chief’s healthy lunch diktats. Get your Pepto Bismol ready. The taste of government waste is indigestion-inducing.

According to a weekend report by the Los Angeles Times, the city’s “trailblazing introduction of healthful school lunches has been a flop.” In response to the public hectoring and financial inducement of Mrs. Obama’s federally subsidized anti-obesity campaign, the district dropped chicken nuggets, corn dogs and flavored milk from the menu for “beef jambalaya, vegetable curry, pad Thai, lentil and brown rice cutlets, and quinoa and black-eyed pea salads.”

Sounds delectable in theory. But in practice, the initiative has been what L.A. Unified’s food services director Dennis Barrett plainly concludes is a “disaster.” While the Obama administration has showered the nation’s second-largest school district with nutrition awards, thousands of students voted with their upset tummies and abandoned the program. A forbidden-food black market — stoked not just by students, but also by teachers — is now thriving. Moreover, “(p)rincipals report massive waste, with unopened milk cartons and uneaten entrees being thrown away.”

This despite a massive increase in spending on nutritional improvements — from $2 million to $20 million alone in the last five years on fresh produce.

This despite a nearly half-billion-dollar budget shortfall and 3,000 layoffs earlier this year.

Rest at Michelle Malkin's site. Your "caring" government at work.

#1  Well, it could be one way to cut back on government provided 'free' lunches. Makes it hard for administrators to game the program when the kids and parents finally start paying, which they demonstratively can afford, themselves. Healthy but less palatable food will not be something sought when individual resources are available to permit free choice.
