-Lurid Crime Tales-
One Heck Of An Obit
Jörg Immendorff, who died on Monday aged 61, was Germany's best-known and most provocative artist, a close friend of the former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and, in 2003, the central figure in a sex scandal involving prostitutes and cocaine-fuelled orgies at a luxury hotel.

In what became known as the Orgy of the Year, Immendorff was discovered naked having his nipples licked by a retinue of seven young filles de joie, while 11 grams of cocaine lay ready for consumption on a Versace ashtray nearby.

Notwithstanding his exotic private life - he had also been a luminary of Dusseldorf's sadomasochistic scene - Immendorff was regarded by many critics as an original and vigorous artist of great complexity...

#1  artist of great complexity

Meaning: self-indulgent, hedonistic, contributing nothing whatsoever POC, no one will miss him and in few years, he'll be forgotten as he never existed.

#2  Right on, 2x4.

A few years back, Derbyshire commented that most of the West has forgotten how to make great works of music and art, and that most of what passed for great art in the mid and late 20th century was noght but topical navel-staring and weirdness for its own sake, and would be forgotten or mocked by future societies (think Warhol's soup cans).

I daresay this guy fits that bill quite well...............

Where are the Rubens' or Rembrandts, or the Beethovens or Brahms, of our time? We've stopped making art that will be "classic".

#3  Photography killed the Rubens, Rembrants and other painters leaving artists to head in the other direction.

I'm not sure how any of this applies to Beethovens or Brahms as they were musicians and Beethoven was never the same after his visit to San Dimas mall.

#4  having his my nipples licked by a retinue of seven young filles de joie [prostitutes] seems like a very worthy art project to me.

They still exist. Click on the link to see some works by the modern Spanish master Jose Royo.

I particularly like this one:

Art seems dead because a large portion of the consuming public has the esthetic discernment of a two year-old. One merely need consider how globally popular gangsta rap is to comprehend just how bad off things are.

#15  The latter is quite interesting, Zenster. It was only at the third look that I realized my eye first went to the flowers, then had to fight upstream to land at the face framed by the umbrella behind it. I've never noticed experiencing anything like that before.

Mike, if I ever have the money to indulge in art just for the kitchen, I'm going to find me some Alfredo Gomez fruit. His Plums is unexpectedly intense.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Man bursts into flames after being shot by a taser gun
Police are investigating the firey death of a man who burst into flames after dousing himself in petrol and then being shot with a taser gun.

Officers used the gun after the man had poured gasoline over himself.

Juan Flores Lopez, 47, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Texas.

Police initially used pepper spray when they tried to take Lopez into custody. Then they used the Taser. Some stun guns emit an electric spark when they deliver the jolt of electricity.

The Texas Rangers were also investigating whether a lighter that was on the porch could have contributed to the fire.

"We don't know what ignited the fire," police said.

No one else was injured in the confrontation. It was unclear whether Lopez had been charged with anything.

Two of his sons who live nearby said their father had been threatening for months to burn himself and his house. His wife was seeking a divorce and he did not want to have to leave the house, the sons said.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Sewage flows down aisles of trans-Atlantic flight
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash.– Passengers on a Air Gaza Continental Airlines flight had to hold their noses for hours as sewage overflowed from toilets while they were high over the Atlantic. "To be blatantly honest, I was more nervous than I had ever been on a flight," said Collin Brock. The University Place man was on board Continental Airlines flight 1970 from Amsterdam to Newark, New Jersey last week when things went bad. "I've never felt so offended in all my life. I felt like i had been physically abused and neglected. I was forced to sit next to human excrement for seven hours," said Brock.

That's after lavatories - in the middle of a flight filled with passengers - started spewing sewage. "Sickening. It's a nauseating smell. It's very uncomfortable," said Brock.

It was last Wednesday afternoon when his flight left Amsterdam, but roughly two hours into it, the passengers were told the lavatories were out of commission. An unplanned landing in Shannon, Ireland was made to fix the problem. A pit stop became an overnight stay. The next day, the same plane headed for its original destination of Newark, New Jersey, but just after takeoff, the sewage overflow began. This time, there was no turning around.

"I don't know how you can say a plane needs to be grounded one day for a problem that's not as major as a problem the next day, and it doesn't qualify for being grounded," said Brock. He says was there was one half-working restroom on the plane for the more than 200 people onboard. He also says the flight attendants - who were serving meal service in a stinky, unappetizing cabin - told everyone to not eat or drink too much.

"To be told that we were supposed to monitor what comes out the other end of us was insulting," said Brock. "Shame on continental. It was the worst flight experience I have ever had." Continental gave Collin a $500 voucher for a future flight for the inconvenience. He says he's not sure he'll ever use it.

#4  Actually, I've noticed that it seems like every flight I'm on anymore has a contingent of people who seem to have had no bathroom access until they get on the plane. It's like they've been saving it forever, and a line forms for the can before the plane even takes off...

#12  Flying these days SUCKS!!!!! The "service" aboard the plane is referred to as "slopping the hogs" by the surly, underpaid and uncaring staff, the security arrangements are rude and intrusive, the TSA rules are ludicrous, and one gets to pay a lot of money for the "privilege" of enduring this agony. I'd like to see a goodly number of TSA employees flogged within an inch of their lives. Every time I've ridden a plane since 9-11, I've come off the flight ready to personally execute every terrorist scumbag at Guantanamo Bay for bringing this state of affairs to pass. The last time I flew I was still so angry three days after I came back that I fired off really scathing letters to the TSA, to my Representative, and to both my Senators. The responses I received led me to believe they've heard the same complaints many, many times. I've come to the point where I'd rather drive three days across the U.S. than fly four hours.

#16  For me the worst problem I've encountered with Continental and other US airlines is dilapidated = worn-out seat(s) or overhead bins, + smaller food entrees + snacks. The 1990's seems to be the benchmark where the US airline companies stopped caring about spot maintenance, using glasswares, etc. i.e. stopped caring about customer enjoyment of their flight experience.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Man and a Woman Schedule To Be Stoned
Just a small reminder of who's against us.
The news about the scheduled stoning of a man and a woman in Takistan, Ghazvin, was spread through mobile phone messages and the Internet. The office of Showraye Tameen of Ghazvin province has issued the order to stone and man and a woman in public. The judge of Branch 1 of the Criminal Court of Takistan will be present in person to throw the first stone. This was scheduled to be done on Sunday, June 17, but the Office of Showraye Tameen of Ghazvin province postponed it to Thursday, June 21.

Mokarrameh Ebrahimi is a 43 year old woman and mother of an 11 year old who has spent the past 11 years in Choubin prison in Ghazvin after being sentenced to stoning. The father of the child has also been in prison for 11 years and is scheduled to be stoned with her.

According to the Meydaan, the official site of the Stop Stoning Forever Campaign, an informed source has verified the news and added that “the pits are dug and prepared in Behesht Zahra cemetery to implement the sentence.” This source also added that the sentence has been issued solely based on the judge’s knowledge, and there have been no witnesses to the so called crime of adultery and having a child out of wedlock. It seems that the couple have lived together for a while and shortly after been imprisoned. There are different rumors about the woman’s past. Some say that her husband had thrown her out of the house and she had been living with her mother for two years. Both the man and the woman have children from their previous marriages. Mokarrameh, who is the mother of three children, is very distressed and in sever disarray in prison.

It seems that after the appeal to the Judicial Commission for Amnesty and Clemency had been rejected, it is going to be carried out as the result of the perseverance of one of the judiciary officials in Ghazvin. The official announcement about the stoning is going to be posted at the site of execution in order to invite the public to participate in the process in Takistan.

There was also the case of the execution by hanging of Atefah Sahaaleh in Iran a couple of years back where that judge personally placed the noose around his victim's neck...

Seem that to be a "judge" in Iran, one of the first requirements is a violent S&M sexual deviancy....
