Robert Stacy McCain: To the Edge of the Abyss
When you are a professional trafficker in politically incorrect thoughts — which is about the best description of my trade I can come up with — a certain amount of caution is necessary to the craft. It’s a tightrope act, and you’re walking a wire suspended high above a dark abyss. Having seen a few friends go over the edge into that vast chasm of despair and paranoia, I sometimes have to step back and engage in self-evaluation, to take an inventory of my mind and moods, to reassure myself that I haven’t turned into some caricature of a “hater.”

The future Ambassador to Vanuatu can’t surrender to madness. It would be beneath my diplomatic dignity to become a raving tinfoil-hat kook.

There is also the problem of avoiding guilt-by-association smears. How weird is it that I’ve quoted dozens of radical feminists at this blog, but no one ever accuses me of feminism, whereas if I were to quote Jared Taylor, this would instantly be seized on as evidence of my racism? The shadow of suspicion that inevitably hovers over any conservative — we are perpetually suspected of Wrongthink — has the unfortunate effect of causing many conservative journalists to tiptoe carefully through the ideological minefields, citing only “respectable” sources, lest they give ammunition to their enemies. Nevertheless . . .

Zman: Letter To The CivNats
One of the strange aspects of the last century of American politics is that the defining arguments have all happened on the losing side. The winners have always been sure about what they want and what they are willing to do to get it. It is the losers who have always been squabbling with one another about the proper response or the meaning of the latest failure. National Review types always used to argue that all the interesting debates were on their side, rather than on the side of their alleged adversaries.

They were not wrong about that, even though they were deluded about who they were really fighting. For at least forty years and maybe longer, all of the arguments have been on the Right. That’s the thing though, they were always fighting the people to their right, the people now forming the new opposition. It is easy to get down about what is happening in our time, but the one thing we can point to is that there is an authentic alternative forming up now. The veil has been lifted for more of us now than any time in the past.

Of course, we remain a tiny minority, even within the white population. George Hawley, the left-wing college professor from the University of Alabama, estimates that the dissident population is in the 6% range, which would be about ten percent of the white population, give or take. Greg Hood, the main writer at American Renaissance, is bit more optimistic, as he thinks the data says there are many more “leaners” in the population, but his number is still small. You can read Greg’s review of Hawley’s numbers here.

#1  About 25% of whites identify as Progressive, so that leaves about 65% in the civic nationalist, dissident right and indifferent buckets. This is what the alt-right learned the hard way two summers ago. They held a rally and 500 people showed up, but 2,000 opponents showed up. Many of those protesting the alt-right were MAGA hat wearing CivNats. Even more crucial, s solid plurality of white people blamed both sides for the violence."

I thought the last couple times we discussed this shit in depth that we found the whole shebang was organized by agent provocateurs, especially the head organizer, who was with one of Obama's front groups as recently as four years ago.

#4  The people putting him through that ordeal don’t look like you.

With the exception of Cory Booker, Kamala Harris and Ted Lieu, the senators giving Kavanaugh a hard time seem pretty lily-white. That includes Flake, Collins, Murkowski and, for a while, Corker. The problem is white people, Democrats and Republicans alike, who step over each other in the rush be holier-than-thou on race. It is long past time that Republican politicians started demonizing companies and individuals who persecute whites for their political beliefs. The Democrats started this war. Without reciprocity, the GOP cannot win.

Britain
Dancing Queen May: Stop Looking For 'Perfect Brexit'
[Hot Air] Theresa May strode to the podium earlier today to ABBA’s "Dancing Queen," which turned out to be rather appropriate. The prime minister fended off a harsh speech from former Tory ally Boris Johnson, who accused May of betraying the Brexit pledge. May told the Conservative Party conference that demands for "the perfect Brexit" will produce no Brexit at all, urging them to back her efforts to find a compromise with the EU:

#3  In truth, the Eurocrats are mostly indifferent to Brexit. They never had all that much control of or tax revenue from Britain.
The problem they see is, how are you going to keep Greece, Italy, and Spain in line if the Brits walk.
(Or any of the rest of them. All except France, Belgium, and Germany. It's their clubhouse.)

A quarter of Australian drownings involve migrants: research
[SBS] Programs run by Royal Life Saving Australia target children and migrants in the hope of lowering the incidents of drowning.

More than 400 swimming schools around the country will provide free swimming lessons to young children for a week, with the aim of reducing the rate of drownings.

Now in its fourth year, Learn2Swim week will run until the 9th of October.

"Swimming lessons are really important under the age of five, the earlier you start, the more respect you have for the water and the easier it is to get them to reinforce simple water safety skills," swimming instructor, Bernadette Rothwell told SBS News.

Two-hundred-and-forty-nine people drowned in Australian waterways in the year to 30th June 2018 representing an 11 per cent reduction on the ten-year average.

Europe
Why Is Eastern Germany So Far Right?
[New York Times] BERLIN ‐ On. Oct. 3, Germans celebrated Reunification Day, the moment when, 28 years ago, the former East and West Germany became one nation again. And yet this year, instead of celebrating our unity, there is a growing sense of estrangement. East and west are drifting apart again.

A few weeks ago, a young man was stabbed to death at a city festival in Chemnitz, a city in eastern Germany; afterward two asylum seekers were arrested in connection to the attack. Large demonstrations broke out around the city, dominated at times by hundreds of right-wing extremists. Some raised their hands in the Hitler salute; journalists and counterdemonstrators were verbally and physically attacked; a mob threw stones at the owner of a Jewish restaurant.

Similar demonstrations broke out in Köthen, a town of 30,000 inhabitants in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt. And on Monday, the police arrested seven men accused of planning attacks on politicians and foreigners on Wednesday.

These events are not random. While violent crimes committed by right-wing extremists are down from 2016, they are still far more frequent in the five eastern German states than in the west, according to the annual report of Germany’s interior secret service. And then, there are the polls. The eastern states of Brandenburg and Saxony will both hold elections next September. For both states, pollsters predict record results for the far-right populist Alternative for Germany party.

#1  A question only the NYT would have to ask.

#2  For perspective:
The author of this article works for the German mainstream press whose definition of neo-Nazis includes the likes of Daniel Pipes and Ezra Levant.

A few weeks ago, a young man was stabbed to death at a city festival in Chemnitz, a city in eastern Germany; afterward two asylum seekers were arrested in connection to the attack.

All of the asylum seekers who were (per the authorities) involved in the stabbing murder should have been deported years ago. Their respective names, countries of origin and ages are unknown.

There was no legal basis for the Merkel government to let these people enter Germany in the first place.

Similar demonstrations broke out in Köthen, a town of 30,000 inhabitants in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt.

That happened after a German resident of Koethen was beaten and kicked in the head by Afghans and subsequently 'died of heart failure.'

Demonstrations are not diseases that 'break out.'

People had the right and the moral duty to demonstrate against this outrage.

Why Is Eastern Germany So Far Right?

Wrong question.

Merkel turned (West) Germany's traditional center right big tent party into a party of the extreme left.

The tectonic shifts in German politics are the consequences of Merkel's realignment.

Three states of East Germany btw are currently ruled by coalitions including the Communist Party of East Germany.

Saxony is the only East German state where the Communist Party hasn't held power at the state level since 1990.

It is the anti-Western totalitarian leftist component of East German politics that has been wreaking havoc on Germany's Western Democratic republican institutions.

Miss Joni Speaks: 'Red State Democrats Are Toast if They Vote Against Kavanaugh'
[Breitbart] Wednesday on the Hugh Hewitt’s nationally syndicated radio show, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) voiced her agreement with Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) assessment that red-state Democratic senators are "toast" if they do not vote to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

"I absolutely agree with Senator Graham," Ernst told Hewitt. "And Lindsey has been a hero through this process. He clearly sees what is going on. He has been able to demonstrate that in clear, concise language for everyone, which we all appreciate. But I do believe that those Democrats that are in red states, those that are up this year, they are going to have a very, very difficult time. If they do not support Judge Kavanaugh, you know, if they are willing to stand up and say it’s okay to be torn down and accused of horrendous actions and get away with that, I think they’re gone."

Kerry Defends Ted Kennedy: ‘He Stood up and Owned Moments Where He Knew He Stepped Over the Line'
[Free Beacon] Former Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday defended the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D., Mass.) from multiple scandals, including abandoning the scene of a car accident resulting in his female passenger drowning and at least one sexual assault allegation, by saying he "stood up and owned moments where he knew he stepped over the line."

Kerry, who formerly served as a senator in Massachusetts, appeared on CNN's "The Lead," where he discussed his new book, Every Day is Extra, and pushed back against host Jake Tapper's question about whether Democrats have held people like Kennedy and former Democratic President Bill Clinton accountable for their actions.

Following an exchange about sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who has denied all claims, Tapper asked Kerry about Kennedy and Clinton.

"I've heard Ted Kennedy's name invoked in the last week or two and Bill Clinton's name invoked in the last week or two by conservatives saying Democrats seeded the moral high ground on a lot of these sexual assault and sexual harassment issues by standing by people like Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy because of the good things in their view that they did," Tapper said.

Kerry pushed back by saying that "many of us were critical" of Clinton and then pivoted to talk about how he personally did not believe Clinton's actions were impeachable. Clinton's sexual relationship in the 1990s with Monica Lewinsky, who was a young White House intern at the time, led to impeachment proceedings against the 42nd president when he was caught lying under oath.

Victor Davis Hanson: America's New Jacobins
[Hoover Institute] Maximilien Robespierre and his Jacobin "Committee of Public Safety’ highjacked the late 18th-century French Revolution. As supposedly more authentically radical revolutionaries, Jacobins did away with their supposedly less radical first-generation Girondists, who themselves had helped to liquidate the French monarchy and many of the Ancient Régime.

What followed Robespierre’s "Reign of Terror" were cycles of revolution until the appearance of Napoleon’s military autocracy. The United States, mutatis mutandis, currently seems on the verge of a new cycle of such leftwing radicalism in spirit and substance‐as the old Democrat Party appears to be withering away and a new Socialist Democrat Party assumes its place.

We can see the changes in Washington. Emboldened leftwing protestors recently disrupted the Senate Supreme Court confirmation hearings on Judge Brett Kavanaugh. A bewildered Majority Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley vainly tried to restore order by insisting on decorum and custom.

Trump Administration Responds To International Court And Slams The Palestinians As Only John Bolton Can
[Red State] Earlier today, the UN’s International Court of Justice ruled that some US sanctions were barred by a 1955 treaty that the US had signed with Shah of Iran. On its face, this seems rather bizarre as the entity with whom we made the treaty, the Shah, is dead. His family is in exile. And Iran is run by a vicious thugocracy with whom we’ve essentially been at war since 1979. But the ICJ has never been about justice, it has always been about making statements. The statement du jour is that Iranian oil is worth more than the lives of its citizens and that the ICJ would rather support a terror state than find in favor of the Trump administration.

The administration wasted little time in responding. First was the soft-touch:
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday that the United States is terminating the Treaty of Amity reached with Iran in pre-revolutionary days, calling it an "absolute absurdity" given the tensions between the two countries.

The impetus for the United States tearing up the treaty was a decision earlier Wednesday in the International Court of Justice, which ordered the Trump administration to lift some sanctions on Iran. The top U.N. court, which is in The Hague, does not have the power to enforce its decisions, which are usually ignored by the United States anyway.

"We ought to have pulled out of it decades ago," Pompeo said, calling it "39 years overdue" in a reference to the 1979 revolution in Iran. "Today marked a useful point with the decision that was made this morning from the ICJ. This marked a useful point for us to demonstrate the absolute absurdity of the Treaty of Amity between the United States and the Islamic Republic."

Later on, John Bolton took the stage for the White House press briefing:
