US Navy veteran arrested in Utah for mailing suspicious envelope to Trump
[Heavy.com] William Clyde Allen III: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

William Clyde Allen III has been jugged

by authorities in connection with ricin detected on mail that was sent to government officials in early October. Ricin was detected on two envelopes sent to the Pentagon on October 1, and top military officials were the intended targets. Later reports indicated that another suspicious envelope was sent to President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
along with two to Ted Cruz’s campaign headquarters, and these are being tested for poison also. Here is what we know so far about Allen and the letters that were sent. This is a developing story.

1. William Clyde Allen III Is from Utah & Served in the Navy for Four Years Before Leaving in 2002. He Served 17 Months & 15 Months on Support Ships

In March 2002 he achieved the rank of a damage control fireman apprentice. He attended the Surface Warrior Officer School at Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois.

A return address led on the first two envelopes sent to the Pentagon led Sherlocks to the sailor.

2. He Had Trouble with the Law in the Past, Including a Child Sex Abuse Case & an Aggravated Assault Case

A motive for the mailings is still under investigation, authorities said. Federal charges are expected to be filed on Friday, CBS News reported.

3. One Envelope Was Addressed to Secretary of Defense James Mattis & Contained a 5×8 Card, & One was Addressed to Admiral John Richardson, Chief of Naval Operations, & Suspicious Packages Were Possibly Also Sent to Trump & Cruz

Also on Tuesday, two people were hospitalized from Ted Cruz’s office in Houston after they came in contact with a white powdery substance. The ninth floor of the Phoenix Tower was evacuated, but all tests came back negative. It’s not known what the substance was or if it was connected to the other incidents.

4. William Allen’s Facebook Page Talks About Science, His Faith, and the 99% vs the 1%, & He May Have Used His Social Media Account to Dox Another Veteran

5. Potentially Hazardous Chemicals May Have Been Found in Utah

The FBI said that officials conducted an operation at 308 N. 200 West Logan, Utah on Wednesday that involved potentially hazardous chemicals. Individuals were asked to avoid that area, but there is "no wider threat to public safety at this time," the Logan CIty Police Department said.

Police act against looters as Indonesian quake survivors battle hunger, thirst
[DAWN] More than 1,200 people are now known to have died in the quake-tsunami that smashed into Sulawesi, Indonesia said on Tuesday, as police pledged to clamp down on looting by survivors taking advantage of the chaos.

There were reports of officers firing warning shots and tear gas to ward off people ransacking shops in Palu, a coastal city ravaged by a 7.5-magnitude quake and the tsunami it spawned.

Survivors are battling thirst and hunger, with food and clean water in short supply, and local hospitals are overwhelmed by the number of injured.

Police said on Tuesday that they had previously tolerated desperate survivors taking food and water from closed shops, but had now tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
dozens of people for stealing computers and cash.

Despite official assurances, desperation was evident on the streets of Palu, where survivors clambered through wreckage hunting for anything salvageable. Others crowded around daisy-chained power strips at the few buildings that still have electricity, or queued for water, cash or petrol being brought in via armed police convoy.

Cameroon’s Biya at helm of six-time election winning machine
[JOURNALDUCAMEROUN] President Paul Biya, the 85-year-old Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
ian leader who will seek a seventh term on Sunday, has developed an effective system to stay in power despite long overseas absences.

One of Africa’s longest serving leaders, he has made Yaounde’s Etoudi presidential palace his home since 1982.

"Those who want power don’t last, it’s those who can (rule)" he told journalists in 2015, making a rare remark about his long time in charge of Cameroon.

One aspect of his time in office is the "subtle balance of forces" which Biya has created in the country, in a region where leadership changes are often accompanied by force, according to International Crisis Group’s (ICG) Hans de Marie Heungoup.

Cameroon’s system was "designed so that everyone polices themselves and maintained inter-generational and ethnic rivalries," Heungoup said.

"No one can move an active (security force) unit without the say-so of the president," he added, emphasising the importance of the balance between the regularly army, the rapid intervention force, and the presidential guard ‐ the last two of which report directly to the president.

The president’s appointment of loyalists to key posts has also assured his long rule.

‐ ’GO AGAINST BIYA, YOU’LL BE CRUSHED’ ‐

The speaker of the National Assembly, the head of the army and the head of the state-run oil and gas company are all confidants of the president, and have each held their jobs for more than 15 years.

The system has been strengthened through "a mix of resigned acceptance and patronage among certain elite leaders who rally behind the regime," said Fred Eboko, a researcher at the French Institute for Research and Development (IRD).

Biya’s primary motivation since coming to office has been "to stay in power," he added.

"The system is built on a single individual and this individual is identified with the job," said Titus Edzoa, a former confidant of the president who was secretary general of Biya’s presidency between 1994 and 1996 and held ministerial posts on several occasions.

"If you try to go against Biya, you’ll be crushed," he said.

‐ ’IN POWER FOR 35 YEARS... THAT’S TALENT’ ‐

He should know. After resigning as a health minister in 1997 to stand in elections, he was locked away
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
and accused of stealing millions of CFA francs. He spent 15 years behind bars.

Now a free man, he warns that by centring the system on Paul Biya’s personality "not only could the system implode, but so too could the whole of Cameroon" in the near future.

"Whether you want him or not, he’s still human and you have to think of the future," he said.

"How do you look back on the story of a people dominated by an individual?"

Osvald Baboke, the deputy director of the presidency, wrote in a book published in September that "Biya’s fate seemed pre-determined" and "an opportunity given by God".

"Being in power for 35 years and standing again, that’s talent," added Edzoa.

His repeated long absences from Cameroon, mostly in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
or in his home village in his country’s south, have been bitterly criticised.

Britain
Man wanted for murders of 8 family members extradited from Pakistan to UK
[DAWN] A man wanted by British police for allegedly causing the deaths of eight people in a West Yorkshire town has been extradited back to the UK from Pakistain, a statement issued on Wednesday said.

Shahid Mohammed, 36, will be presented at the Leeds Magistrates Court on Thursday after his extradition from Pakistain, a blurb issued by the British High Commission on behalf of West Yorkshire Police said.

He will be formally charged with the murders of five children and three adults following a house fire in Birkby, Huddersfield in 2002.

Aged between 54 and as young as six months old, the eight members of the family were asleep in their home when petrol was poured through the letterbox and a petrol bomb put through the window, BBC reported.

According to the handout, Mohammed, a former resident of Huddersfield, was extradited to the UK by officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, with assistance from the National Crime Agency, the British High Commission in Islamabad, the Crown Prosecution Service and local authorities in Pakistain.

The suspect had remained imprisoned since his arrest in Rawalpindi in January, 2015 following a joint operation between West Yorkshire Police, the NCA and Pak authorities. He was flown to the UK from Islamabad International Airport.

The blurb quoted Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team as saying that Mohammed's extradition was a significant development in the investigation of the arson-murder case.

"At the centre of this investigation is the Chisthi family, who lost eight members of their family during the fatal house fire and have shown such dignity since the tragedy occurred in 2002," he said.

The officer thanked the agencies in the UK and in Pakistain who assisted West Yorkshire Police in the extradition of the suspect.

According to the statement, this is only the second extradition from Pakistain in more than 10 years.

In May 2016, a man named Mohammed Zubair was extradited from Pakistain and was found guilty of murder at Bradford Crown Court in February 2017. His extradition also followed an investigation and extradition request from West Yorkshire Police, the blurb said.

Putin says ex-Russia spy poisoned in Britain was a 'scumbag'
[PRESSTV] Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
has lashed out at Western governments for their designation of a former Moscow spy poisoned in Britannia as innocent, saying Sergei Skripal was simply a "scumbag" who committed treason by revealing confidential information about his country.

"He was simply a spy. A traitor to the motherland. There is such a concept - a traitor to the motherland. He was one of those," Putin said in a speech in Moscow on Wednesday.

The remarks come amid a diplomatic stand-off between Russia and Britannia on the poisoning of Skripal and his daughter in March in the southern English city of Salisbury.

London accused Moscow of ordering the poisoning attack, which it says was carried out using a sophisticated Soviet-era military-grade nerve agent.

Russia has denied any involvement and even some officials in Moscow believe the entire story, which led to a serious political fallout with the Western countries, was fabricated by the British intelligence agencies to target Russia.

China-Japan-Koreas
Group says North Korea hackers stealing hundreds of millions from banks
[IsraelTimes] North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests have stopped, but its hacking operations to gather intelligence and raise funds for the sanction-strapped government in Pyongyang may be gathering steam.

US security firm FireEye is raising the alarm over a North Korean group that it says has stolen hundreds of millions of dollars by infiltrating the computer systems of banks around the world since 2014 through highly sophisticated and destructive attacks that have spanned at least 11 countries.

It says the group is still operating and poses "an active global threat."

It is part of a wider pattern of malicious state-backed cyber activity that has led the Trump administration to identify North Korea ‐ along with Russia, Iran and China ‐ as one of the main online threats facing the United States. Last month, the Justice Department charged a North Korean hacker said to have conspired in devastating cyberattacks, including an $81 million heist of Bangladesh’s central bank and the WannaCry virus that crippled parts of Britannia’s National Health Service.

The Big Hack: How China Used a Tiny Chip to Infiltrate U.S. Companies

#2  Incredible that our business and government leaders would have started doing business with China in the first place. Do they think they can inspect every single chip on every single motherboard that these tech companies import from China? Then they put these computers into our most sensitive business and government installations and wonder how the Chinese get wise to our secrets. If we ever get into a serious shooting war with China we will be at a serious disadvantage because they'll know what we're going to do before we do. China is run by a hostile, aggressive, totalitarian government so this kind of thing was to be expected by anybody who gave any rational thought to it. By importing Chinese computer hardware our business leaders and government have done untold harm to our country. They should all be put on trial for treason.

#4  I'm actually surprised by the Chinese succeeding with this scheme.

Mere automated hd visual inspection of the motherboards should have immediately detected any macroscopic part that was absent in the reference design. I would have assumed that such a trivial and basic check would be done on any individual MB or card that was to be used in a sensitive environment.

Detecting malicious modifications within complicated graphics chips, SoCs, programmable massively parallel gfx chips or sealed multi-chip packages would be less trivial.

Merkel pledges German fight against anti-Semitism on Israel visit
[SBS] Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke of Germany's "everlasting responsibility" to oppose anti-Semitism during a visit to Israel on Thursday as she and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu brushed past their differences and promoted cooperation between their nations.

The one-day visit by Merkel and members of her cabinet was part of German-Israeli government consultations held regularly, but came after Netanyahu's harsh criticism of European countries over their efforts to keep alive the Iran nuclear deal.

Germany and other European countries have also repeatedly hit out at Israeli settlement building in the occupied West Bank and warned over threats to remaining prospects for a two-state solution to the conflict with the Palestinians.

But both leaders seemed determined to have the visit run smoothly, greeting each other warmly after Merkel's arrival on Wednesday night and touring an innovation exhibit together on Thursday.

Merkel began the day with a visit to Israel's Holocaust memorial high in the hills above Jerusalem.

After laying a wreath in the Yad Vashem memorial's solemn Hall of Remembrance, where an eternal flame burns, she spoke of Germany's responsibility as the perpetrator of the Holocaust.

It Begins! McConnell Files for Cloture on Kavanaugh for Supreme Court
[Breitbart] WASHINGTON, DC ‐ Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Wednesday began the final round of the confirmation battle over the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for the U.S. Supreme Court, filing for cloture to ensure a final vote on President Trump’s nominee by the end of this week.
Shortly before 10:00 p.m. in a night session on Wednesday, McConnell filed a motion for cloture, to limit debate on the Kavanaugh nomination and force a final vote as to whether Judge Kavanaugh will become Justice Kavanaugh.

At the insistence of Sens. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Senate leadership allowed an extra week for additional investigation into Kavanaugh. President Trump ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to expedite the Senate’s request, and to conclude its work by this Friday. The FBI finished its work early, and consequently senators can review the supplemental report beginning Thursday morning.

Under Senate rules, the motion must now "ripen" for a day. The full Senate will vote early on Friday on the motion. Although cloture requires 60 votes for legislation, only 51 votes are required for presidential nominees to judicial or executive office.

#1 I just can’t imagine their rationale. Now the Dems will have a judge that deeply hates them for the next 25 years, even though he was probably more or less neutral 30 days ago. That’s just a stupid self-inflicted wound.

Even if he doesn't hate them, he's almost certain to be deeply suspicious of their motives and their honesty in everything they do.

I agree with Mike Kozlowski: "They're toddlers. They can't think beyond their immediate demands and urges, and they certainly never consider the possibility that they might fail."

Stupic, self-inflicted wound, indeed. Serves 'em right.

#15  I agree. They're frantic for immediate gratification. There's also a marked tendency among liberals to avoid looking beyond what I call the "first-order affects" of their preferred policies and actions. Like Harry Reid and the filibustering of judicial appointees...

Girl killed, mother wounded over marriage dispute
[DAWN] A family dispute over a marriage proposal led to an armed attack in Baldia Town on Tuesday that killed a young woman and left her mother badly maimed, police said.

They said the victim, identified as 20-year-old Benazir, and her mother, Marvi, were shot at by their close relatives Sultan and Sartaj inside the victims’ home in Yousuf Goth of Baldia Town. The attackers, they said, were pressing the victims to fix Benazir’s marriage with a man in their family which they were resisting.

"The issue between the two families had been under discussion for the past few days," said Inspector Arz Mohammad, the SHO of the Saeedabad cop shoppe. "The two men [Sultan and Sartaj] came again today when the father of the girl, Dildar Hussain, was not at home. The arguments between the two sides turned violent when the two [Sultan and Sartaj] pulled out pistols and fired multiple shots and bravely ran away, leaving both women critically maimed."

He said the victims were moved to the civil hospital, where doctors pronounced Benazir dead and shifted her mother to the operation theatre for surgery.

"We have identified the attackers and also located their home in Laasi Goth. They have run away and their home is locked. We are very much hopeful to trace and arrest them soon. An FIR has been registered against the two suspects on a complaint of the dear departed’s father," added the SHO of the Saeedabad cop shoppe.

80 kanals grabbed by gangster Mansha Bomb retrieved in Johar Town
[DAWN] The Lahore administration launched a grand operation on Tuesday against encroachments, retrieving illegally possessed land, including around 80 kanals possessed by Mansha Bomb in Johar Town worth Rs5 billion.

The operation, which would continue for a month, was simultaneously launched in Johar Town (PIA Road) and Anarkali by teams headed by Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General (DG) Amina Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
and Deputy Commissioner (DC) retired Capt Anwarul Haq.

Those operating the illegal properties in Johar Town ‐ after renting them out from Mansha or his henchmen -- for either residential or commercial purposes were seen grabbing their valuables as soon as the machines arrived. They complained that they were not informed of the drive earlier.

"We have been living here for the last four years and were paying Rs4,000 as monthly rent to Malik Humayun -- a close relative of Mansha. But today, this action has left us without shelter as we were suddenly asked to vacate the buildings within half an hour," Munawar Bibi, whose shanty was also removed, told Dawn while sitting with her family outside a house.

During the operation in Johar Town, officials razed several structures, removed dozens of shanties and took over plots using heavy machinery. Later, they planted saplings on the cleared land.

"You can see how we have retrieved a vast area belonging to the LDA as well as private people from the possession of Mansha Bomb. We are also planting saplings on the retrieved land," LDA DG Khan told Dawn.

Policeman arrested over death of 7-year-old girl from stray bullet in Karachi
[DAWN] A policeman was jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
over charges of killing a seven-year-old girl after it was found that the stray bullet that led to her death was fired from his licensed pistol, police officials said on Wednesday.

"The police have arrested the constable responsible, Waseem Saiful Maluk," said Saeedabad SHO Arz Muhammad.

The officer said that Maluk is posted with the Ittehad Town police and lives near the school in Saeedabad where the incident took place.

Maluk told Sherlocks during the initial probe that he was cleaning his pistol at home on Friday when it accidentally went off.

At the time, the girl was playing in the school's playground with other children. All of a sudden, from an unknown direction, the bullet pierced her shoulder, said SHO Mohammed.

She was initially taken to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital and later to the National Institute of Child Health, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Sunday, added the officer.

The SHO said that the police had registered a murder case against unidentified suspects on the complaint of the victim’s father, Saleem.

Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Fat Tony demanded his rosco back. He didn't say please...
Karachi Additional Inspector General of Police Dr Ameer Ahmed Sheikh while speaking to the media said that there was a need for all stakeholders in the case to determine why incidents involving stray bullets had become rampant.

The city police chief said that this incident would be made a test case.

Bezos' Blue Origin designing large lunar lander
[Al Jazeera] Jeff Bezos' space company is in the conceptual design phase of a large lunar lander that it says will provide reusable access to the moon's surface and its resources, Blue Origin said on Wednesday.

The lander is part of Blue Origin's broader mission of enabling a future in which millions of people live and work in space, the company said.

"The next logical step in this path is a return to the Moon," Blue Origin said in a statement. "To do this we need reusable access to the lunar surface and its resources."

The company, founded by Amazon.com Inc Chief Executive Officer Bezos, has said it aims to land on the moon in about five years. The company offered no details on Wednesday about how it would move from the design phase to moon missions in this time frame.

Blue Origin is also developing its New Shepard rocket for short space tourism trips and a heavy-lift launch rocket called New Glenn for satellite launch contracts.

Six rescue divers drown trying to save teen in Malaysia
[BBC] Six rescue divers have drowned while trying to save a teenager from a disused mining pool in Malaysia.

They were searching for a 17-year-old boy who is thought to have fallen into the body of water while fishing with his friends on Wednesday.

Authorities said the divers became caught in a "whirlpool" and sudden strong currents caused some of their equipment to come off.

The search for the missing boy resumed on Thursday.

'A very sad day'

The boy and his friends were about to start fishing at the mining pool in Sepang district in Selangor state when he fell in, reports said.

The divers followed all safety procedures as they went into the pool on a search and rescue mission, according to Sepang district police chief Abdul Aziz Ali.

They were all wearing complete diving equipment and were tied to a single rope, he said.

Mr Aziz told state news agency Bernama that a strong current "caused all victims to spin in the water", adding that this caused their equipment to come off.

"A whirlpool had formed at the area and a team on the banks said they saw the six divers struggling to get out," Fire and Rescue Department director-general Mohammad Hamdan Wahid told the New Straits Times.

The men were in the water for about 30 minutes while their colleagues tried to rescue them. All six were unconscious when they were pulled out of the water and could not be resuscitated.

"This is the first time as many as six personnel died," Mr Wahid told Bernama. "This is a very sad day for us."

Mr Wahid said an initial investigation suggested that a floodwall near the area failed to contain gushing water brought about by heavy rain earlier that day, causing the strong current.

Amnesty International slams ‘sickening’ execution of domestic and sexual violence victim in Iran
[ARABNEWS] Amnesia Amnesty International have responded to reports that a 24-year-old Kurdish woman was executed on Wednesday morning in Urumieh central prison in the country’s West Azerbaijan province, calling it "sickening."

Zeinab Sekaanvand was sentenced to death under ’qesas’ (retribution in kind) in October 2014 after a trial before a criminal court in West Azerbaijan province, which convicted her of the murder of her husband. Amnesia Amnesty International said the trial was "grossly unfair."

She was placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in February 2012 at a cop shoppe where she confessed to the murder of her husband. She was held in the cop shoppe for the next 20 days where she said she was tortured by male coppers through beatings all over her body.

She confessed that she stabbed her husband after he had subjected her to months of physical and verbal abuse and had refused her requests for divorce. She was only provided with a state-appointed lawyer at her final trial session, at which point she retracted her confession, telling the judge that her husband’s brother, whom she said had raped her several times, had committed the murder. She said that the judge told her that, if she claimed the credit, he would pardon her.

Philip Luther, Amnesia Amnesty International’s Research and Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, said in a statement: "The execution of Sekaanvand is a sickening demonstration of the Iranian authorities’ disregard for the principles of juvenile justice and international human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
law. Zeinab was just 17 years old at the time of her arrest. Her execution is profoundly unjust and shows the Iranian authorities’ contempt for the right of children to life. The fact that her death sentence followed a grossly unfair trial makes her execution even more outrageous.

"Sekaanvand said that, soon after she was married at 15, she sought help many times from the authorities about her violent husband and alleged that her brother-in-law had raped her repeatedly. Instead of investigating these allegations, however, the authorities consistently ignored her and failed to provide her with any support as a victim of domestic and sexual violence.
