#1  I was banned from a local college hookah lounge/bar.

Again and again 3 frat sisters couldn't keep their pipe lit and wanted the bartender to light it for them, every time, which took away from my quality bartender service.

Well into the evening, the fourth time, on my way out, in passing, I said, "Somebody needs to teach you how to suck."

Not well received.

Nearly 40 Shot During Weekend in Mayor Brandon Johnson's Chicago
[BREITBART] Nearly 40 people were shot, seven of them fatally, during the weekend in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
Breitbart News reported at least 29 people were shot Friday into Sunday morning in Chicago, and five of those shooting victims shuffled off the mortal coil.

By Monday morning, ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times noted the number of shooting victims had risen to at least 38 with two additional shooting fatalities.

One of additional shooting deaths occurred at 3:30 a.m. Sunday "in the 800-block of North Orleans Street." A 24-year-old driver was at a stoplight when someone in a white SUV opened fire on him, shooting him multiple times.

The driver was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Chicago, like all of Illinois, has an "assault weapons" ban, a "high capacity" magazine ban, a red flag law, a 72-hour waiting period for gun purchases, and gun owner licensing. Additionally, Cook County, where Chicago is located, has its own "assault weapons" ban.

The Sun-Times indicated there were 384 homicides in Chicago January 1, 2023, through August 20, 2023.

Three-judge panel upholds dismissal of Nick Sandmann's lawsuits against news outlets

On the first day of class I always brought in a 6-foot stepladder, climbed up (not to the top rung for you OSHA guys) and dropped a calculator to the floor. It inevitably smashed (bought a cheap one for each demonstration).

Then I asked the question "You have to calculate something, no one else around you has another calculator, so what do you do now?"

Then proceeded to teach, or refresh, the wonders of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication on paper. (Including fractions, which for some reason was the most difficult for many).

-War on Police-
NYC EMS worker was trying to calm patient before he screamed 'f—k you' and stabbed her
[NYPOST] The EMS worker stabbed by a disturbed man last month was just trying to calm him down before he yelled, "F—k you!" whipped out a kitchen knife from his boot and attacked, Manhattan prosecutors said Monday.

Convicted felon Rudy Garcia, 48, was being tended to by EMT Julia Fatum, 25, as he was transported by ambulance from the Upper West Side, where a 911 call came in reporting a cardiac arrest, authorities said.

Garcia, who "appeared oriented and alert," tossed a gum wrapper at Falum and "became agitated and combative," prompting her to try to defuse the situation, prosecutor Joseph Abrams said as an indictment against the suspect was unsealed.

That’s when Garcia screamed the profanity and "pulled a large knife out of his sock and stabbed her chest, arm, and left leg several times,’’ the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said.

When Fatum "confronted the defendant verbally about his behavior, the defendant stated ’F—k you!’ and stabbed [Fatum] several times," Abrams added in court.

Garcia appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court wearing beige jail clothes and a blue mask as he pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to charges of second-degree attempted murder and assault.

The alleged assailant stabbed Fatum six times in the chest, thigh and arm with the knife during the July 19 attack.

She suffered "significant" blood loss and nerve damage in her thigh which required two surgeries, authorities said.

A graphic video of the aftermath of the stabbing showed Fatum screaming and sobbing and bleeding on the ground.

"I don’t know what happened," Garcia can be heard saying after he was ordered by first responders to "back off" and put his hands down.

"You stabbed her, bro!" an EMS worker shouts at him.

The ambulance had been close to the emergency room at Mount Sinai Hospital, so several hospital EMTs and security officers immediately rushed over to help, Abrams said, noting Garcia was held in the vehicle until the cops arrived and arrested him. Fatum was "rushed directly into the ER," the prosecutor said.

Despite two surgeries, Fatum is "still suffering from loss of function in the left hand," Abrams said, noting that doctors predict it could take months for her to get the full use of her hand back. The judge ordered Garcia to continue to be held on the previously set $500,000 bail."

Garcia has eight prior arrests, including one from June in which he was allegedly caught in a subway station with a knife also stashed in his boot.

He was previously convicted of head-butting a police officer who was trying to arrest him for allegedly hitting his sister in 2017. He also has a conviction for illegally carrying a boxcutter.
Back in the Upper Paleolithic when I was an EMT, we transported mentally disturbed patients in restraints. If they were let out of restraints for any reason, one of us was standing by to administer "O2 therapy" (an oxygen bottle upside the head.)

#3  When I was in EMS every psych patient got searched before transport. Not by the cops, but by us. Many wear put in handcuffs, again not by the cops, by us.

It was a different world then because we understood that these patients were potentially dangerous and could pose a threat to us.

Now EMTs are told that they have to be punching bags for violent patients or be fired.

Glad that I'm retired.

#5  As anyone who has been around humans knows, shouting at them to calm down rarely ever works. I don't recall anything in Boy Scout first aid about stabbing, but times do change.

A question on technique: do you stab them once, kinda like a dope slap but more pointed (heh!), or do you keep stabbing repeatedly until they are sufficiently calm?

Africa Subsaharan
Zimbabwe: Speculation grows about a 'Mnangagwa third term' ahead vote for second one
[AFRICANEWS] Zim-bob-we's President Emmerson Mnangagwa is slated to pursue a second five-year term next week.**According to the constitution, this term should mark his final one.

However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
a portion of his supporters has already begun advocating for a constitutional change that would permit him to seek a third term—an idea to which he appears somewhat open.

In July, during a gathering of a Christian sect that supports him, Mnangagwa made a statement implying that continuous rule could be achieved through prayers at church.

This remark reinforced the perception that the transformation he promised when he took over from long-standing authoritarian leader Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
six years ago has not materialized.

Sections of the ruling ZANU-PF party, including the youth and women's wings, have also called for a constitutional amendment to extend his rule beyond the prescribed two terms.

This situation represents a significant shift for the 80-year-old leader.

After being considered a potential successor to Mugabe for years, Mnangagwa faced a period of exile when Mugabe appeared to be grooming his wife for succession in 2017.

Mnangagwa returned after a popular coup later that year, vowing to depart from Mugabe's repressive and isolationist rule.

Political analysts have noted that he is not so different from his predecessor.

"You have someone who has been a political understudy of Robert Mugabe so all the negative things you can talk about Zim-bob-wean politics, Mnagangwa has grown up with that system and so now that he is in power and he has the military behind him, he is going to use those bad, same tactics to hold onto and remain in power," said Edgar Githua, an International Relations, Conflict and Diplomacy expert at United States International University-Africa. "He will weaponize anything to remain in power," he added.

Dubbed "the Crocodile," Mnangagwa was previously associated with enforcing Mugabe's tough actions.

These actions included the North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
n-trained military brigade's 1980s massacre of around 20,000 Ndebele ethnic minority individuals in the Matabeleland region while Mnangagwa served as security minister.

He was also linked to a violent mostly peaceful crackdown on the opposition following Mugabe's loss to opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai in 2008.

Despite this history, Mnangagwa initiated discussions about these past atrocities after becoming president and aimed to differentiate his administration from Mugabe's.

He made promises of compensating displaced white farmers, abolished a law mandating foreign business ownership be ceded to locals, and advocated for democracy.

He sought to restore relationships with Western countries, even applying for Zim-bob-we's reentry into the Commonwealth and engaging with international forums like the World Economic Forum.

Although some questioned whether Mnangagwa's rule would be different from the past, he managed to charm Western nations and investors.

Even the opposition, once critical of the ruling party showed some support by attending his inauguration.

Gabon: Opposition cries foul over rule change to vote ahead elections
[AFRICANEWS] Gabon's main opposition parties, who have lined up behind a single candidate to challenge Ali Bongo Ondimba in next week's presidential vote, on Sunday urged a boycott of legislative contests the same day, after a last-minute change to voting rules.

Former education minister Albert Ondo Ossa secured the backing of the Alternance 2023 opposition grouping on Friday, hoping to unseat Bongo, whose family has ruled the oil-rich West African state for 55 years.

Last month, however, Gabon's electoral commission announced that any vote for a local deputy would automatically be a vote for that deputy's presidential candidate.
Last month, however, Gabon's electoral commission announced that any vote for a local deputy would automatically be a vote for that deputy's presidential candidate.

The move was denounced by critics as favouring the ruling Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG), since Ondo Ossa is not backed by any single party, and therefore will not have corresponding candidates for the parliamentary vote.

During a rally in Libreville broadcast on social media, Ondo Ossa and Alternance 2023 officials warned of an "unfair vote" that violated the separation of executive and legislative powers.

They urged a boycott of the parliamentary elections, calling instead "to vote only for the president" and to "throw the legislative ballot sheets in the trash".

Britain
British Police Assault, Arrest Teenage Autistic Girl for 'Homophobic' Remarks
[PJ] A 16-year-old autistic girl in the UK had begun behaving oddly. Her sister called the police for help, at which time she was escorted home.

So far, so good. An autistic girl is acting a bit erratic, as often happens, so the authorities are called for help.

This is when things take a left turn, via Reduxx (emphasis added):
As [the mother] brought her daughter in, the girl made a would-be innocent remark about the female officer who had been amongst the West Yorkshire police escorting her.

"She said ’I think she’s a lesbian like nanna Julie,’" [the mother] recounts, noting that the female officer had short blonde hair. "I just felt a jolt on my back... the officer had launcher herself in my home at me and Amanda. She was grabbing her."

Snow says her daughter scampered into a cupboard under the stairs and began crying and apologizing, unsure of what was going on. Amanda also began self-harming out of stress.

"She was crying and saying sorry to the police woman. That’s when I grabbed my phone and started recording."

Footage from the incident, which has reportedly been removed twice from TikTok for unspecified reasons (I’m going to go out on a limb and say "hate speech" or some other Social Justice™ hallucination):

Sad tango. Argentina on the verge of default
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Ol'ga Kuznetsova

[REGNUM] On August 13, primary elections were held in Argentina, the main purpose of which is to approve the final list of candidates for president, provincial governors and parliament. General elections are expected in October 2023. To participate in the voting, each candidate must receive at least 1.5% of the vote, and the results of the primaries help determine the strongest participants from each party, in order to roughly imagine the balance of power on the eve of a large-scale election campaign. Talk about the default in particular and about the economic situation of the state in general became the main thing for presidential candidates, forcing populists and oppositionists of all stripes to enter the arena, as well as resuming the discussion about the possible (non) entry of Argentina into the BRICS bloc (Argentina filed an application last year).

If he can hold his own in Buenos Aires where the left radicals are strong, it is possible that Argentina may have a pro-business, pro-Capitalist government for the first time in decades.

It's moving North, to far better looting opportunities and a friendly Marxist political party.

Texas breaks decades-old records for oil and natural gas production
[JustTheNews] If Texas were its own country, it would already be the world's third-largest producer of natural gas and the fourth-largest producer of oil.

The powerhouse of the U.S. energy sector—the Texas oil and natural gas industry—reached a new record production high in June and July, surpassing all-time highs set 30 and 40 years ago, according to an energy economics analysis published by Texas Oil & Gas Association.

The analysis, conducted by TXOG's Chief Economist Dean Foreman, Ph.D., shows that Texas' production of oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids broke previous records and that resource reserves are expected to support decades of prospective production. It also highlights a range of records broken in May, also surpassing previous 30- and 40-year-old highs.

"Texas shouldered three quarters of U.S. oil production growth year-to-date through July, re-setting its production records in the process," Foreman said. "TXOGA's new analyses offer insight into the value chain and operational flows, showing Texas is the key enabler of regional U.S. production, transportation, refining and exports–and a source of dynamism amid global markets that have been searching for clarity this year."

"Texas has broken its production records and increasingly driven U.S. oil and natural gas production," the report states. Year-to-date through July 2023, Texas accounts for 43.3% of all oil production and 27.4% of all natural gas marketed production in the country.

The Lone Star state's oil production reached a record high 5.5 million barrels per day (mb/d) in June and July, while the report added that natural gas marketed production reached 31.4 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in June before decreasing to 31.2 bcf/d in July.

These milestones are significant, TXOGA argues, because, "Texas drives U.S. oil and natural gas production, transportation and exports, thereby helping to sustain downward pressure on prices, foster investment and innovation, and augment reserves to support future production."

Because Texas' oil and natural gas reserves remain abundant, the industry is "supporting value chains with decades of prospective production," it says, also contributing to national reserves. The analysis found the reserves "remain abundant and continue to grow." Since 2016, Texas has accounted for over 40% of the nation's oil reserves and nearly 25% of natural gas proved reserves, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data.

According to a U.S. Geological Survey, decades of potential growth are attributed to these proved reserves—led by Texas—in the Permian Basin and Gulf Coast.

"Although the pathway from exploration through development and production inherently depends on economic considerations, it is clear that U.S. oil and natural gas have remained abundant, and with Texas' leadership, these resources could remain the bedrock of American energy security for decades to come," Foreman said.

TXOGA President Todd Staples points out that, according to EIA projections, by 2050, the world's energy needs will nearly double.
