Virginia AG Investigating Entire Fairfax County School System
[Townhall] Townhall has been covering the drama unfolding out of reports that schools in Fairfax County were withholding notification of merit base scholarships from students. Last week, Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) urged Attorney General Jason Miyares, also a Republican, to use his authority to investigate Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ), and Miyares quickly agreed. Days later, Miyares also announced that he would be expanding his investigation into all of the Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) system.

A press release from Miyares' office also included a statement from the attorney general. "It’s concerning that multiple schools throughout Fairfax County withheld merit awards from students," he said. "My office will investigate the entire Fairfax County Public Schools system to find out if any students were discriminated against and if their rights were violated."

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Amtrak train in South Carolina stalled for 29 hours, conductor tells riders who dial 911 they're not 'hostage'
[FoxBusinessNews] Hundreds of Amtrak passengers stranded after vehicle on tracks causes freight train derailment.

An Amtrak Auto Train, a specialized train allowing passengers to take their vehicles with them to drive after their rail journeys, was headed from Washington, D.C., Monday and expected to arrive at the final destination of Sanford, Florida, at about 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Washington Post reported.

Instead, after the train made its scheduled stop in Lorton, Virginia, at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, it was diverted because of the derailment of a CSX freight train, coming to a halt in wooded area near Denmark, South Carolina.

ABC News reported that the train was left stranded in the rural area for more than 29 hours afterward. But on Wednesday morning, Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said that was not accurate.

The train arrived in Sanford, Florida, Wednesday morning, with an approximate 20-hour delay, Leeds told Fox News Digital.

"The Amtrak Auto Train had significant delays due to a CSX freight derailment in South Carolina," she said. "The train was detoured off its normal route in order to continue operating south, adding additional time to the trip. Customers were provided regular updates, along with meals, snack packs, and beverages. Additional food from local businesses along the route was also provided during the trip.

"Amtrak apologizes for the delay," Leeds added. "We will be working with each customer on fare refunds."

In one video, a conductor is heard making an announcement after some passengers reportedly dialed 911 or otherwise called local police telling them they were being held hostage on the train.

"Once again, for those of you that are calling the police, we are not holding you hostage," the speaker is heard announcing to passengers. "We are giving you all the information of which we have. We are sorry about the inconvenience. As soon as more information is available, we will let you know shortly."

The train was further delayed while waiting for a new crew with specialized training to operate it. The initial crew could no longer legally operate the train, reports said.

In an email to the Post, Leeds also said employees onboard were working with pet owners to arrange bathroom breaks for animals.

But some passengers told media outlets feces was spotted on the floor of the train and dogs had not initially been allowed off the train in South Carolina.

A statement from CSX to the WJLA news station in Washington, D.C., provided more details.

"Just before 11:00 p.m. Monday, a CSX freight train came in contact with an unoccupied vehicle on the tracks at Charles Street in Lake City, SC resulting in the derailment of 25 rail cars and two locomotives, which remained upright," it said. "There were no injuries to the crew of the train and no hazardous materials involved. CSX crews are on site working to safely clear the tracks and restore the area."

Passengers reportedly said the train had begun moving again Tuesday night.

One passenger told WJLA that they were told they needed to wait a minimum of another 90 minutes once they reach their final destination in Florida for their vehicle to be unloaded from the train.

Debuted in 1983, the Amtrak Auto Train is advertised today as "a stress-free journey by rail, skipping the traffic congestion on I-95." Amtrak has been plagued by extended delays in recent years. More than one in five Amtrak trains was late in 2021, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In October, passengers who took what was supposed to be a five-hour Amtrak train trip from Detroit to Chicago instead waited 19 hours with no electricity, water or food.

#3  Yes, "specialized" hostages is correct. Armed MAGA guards were picked up at the prison in Lorton, VA. along with a re-supply of dog food.

The anxious D.C. passengers were scheduled to be met by slaver cattle trucks near Denmark, but the cattle trucks were likewise delayed. With the extended shipment delays and all attempts to avoid discovery foiled, AMTRAK and slaver authorities made a joint decision to proceed to Sanford and abandon the effort.

Numerous filings are now underway with the The Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Cash settlements are expected to be in the billions of dollars.

BBC - Excess deaths in 2022 among worst in 50 years
[BBC] More than 650,000 deaths were registered in the UK in 2022 - 9% more than 2019.

This represents one of the largest excess death levels outside the pandemic in 50 years.

Though far below peak pandemic levels, it has prompted questions about why more people are still dying than normal.

Data indicates pandemic effects on health and NHS pressures are among the leading explanations.

Is it Covid?
Or the NIH and vaccines?

3 men arrested over attempt to steal 10-tonne statue of Egyptian pharaoh
[AFRICANEWS] The Egyptian authorities have arrested three people who tried to steal a 10-ton statue of Pharaoh Ramses II using a crane.

The prosecutor's office said in a statement on Tuesday that it had "ordered the detention of three defendants for four days pending investigation," accusing them of "attempting to steal a pharaonic statue" in the ancient southern city of Aswan, some 675 kilometres south of Cairo on the Nile.

According to the statement, police reported that "three people were arrested in possession of manual digging tools and heavy equipment, a crane," which they had used in an attempt to "lift the statue and excavate the antiquities in the area."

The Aswan Antiquities Authority proved "the antiquity (of the statue) and attributed it to Ramses II, with a weight of about 10 tons," the statement added.

The prosecutor's office ordered police to "promptly investigate others involved with the suspects in the crime."

Dramatic slide of Egypt's currency continues
[AFRICANEWS] Egypt's pound reached a new low of about 30 pounds to the US Dollar on Wednesday (Jan. 11) as the central bank moved to a more flexible exchange rate under the terms of an IMF financial support package.

The IMF Mission Chief for Egypt reaffirmed the fund’s resolve to back Cairo’s economic reforms and efforts to tame inflation.

Ivanna Vladkova Hollar spoke during a news conference in Washington, DC (USA).

"Exchange rate and monetary policies will be focused on a permanent shift to a flexible exchange rate regime that would help absorb external shocks and rebuild reserves while gradually reducing inflation," she insisted.

"Continued fiscal discipline and fiscal structural policies aim to maintain market confidence and ensure the downward trajectory of the debt to GDP ratio, while strengthening the budgetary process, increasing transparency and improving the budget composition so as to allow for an expansion in social spending."

In December, the International Monetary Fund approved a $3 billion loan for Egypt in exchange for a number of economic reforms.

#1  China has overplayed their hand. They did control most of the world's rare earth metals. But their erratic and hostile behavior has led other nations to go looking for alternate sources--and behold, there they are!

If China had decided to play nice with others, the rate of exploration would have been considerably slower, and everyone would have been better off.

That is why I am relatively comforted about Biden damaging the US. Xi appears to be intent on damaging China even more. This is just one example.

#2  Rare earth metals aren't really that rare. Having them in large enough quantities to mine for profitability is. The reason we let China do it is that the processing is extremely toxic. China has destroyed large portions of its environment to do it.

Only problem is now the rest of the world is realizing China is fucking nuts and they need to get it from somewhere else. The Colorado School of Mines has actually developed a method of processing that isn't as toxic, but it will take a while to commercialize it.

The 'Brain-Enhancing' Smart Pills That Are Sweeping Silicon Valley
[RewardNice] We expose the truth behind a ground-breaking pill that has many experts furious. Studies have revealed it boosts brain power by up to 89.2%, sharpens your mind and sky-rockets your energy levels. With such overwhelming evidence and media mention, the question is not whether the pill works, but whether it should be legal.

Welcome To The Future - The use of a Legal Study Drug known as Lion's Mane Capsules has skyrocketed on college campuses across the US since coming back on the market in September. It's being touted as 10x more effective than Adderall, and many students are taking full advantage of its availability to buy online without a prescription.

There has been much controversy around this brain-boosting pill, not only on college campuses, but also in the media. It first came into the spotlight when the movie Limitless became a box office hit and several blogs started comparing it to Adderall. Sales of Lion's Mane Capsules tripled overnight as students, athletes, entrepreneurs, and business executives all wanted to get their hands on this powerful brain enhancer.

Lion's Mane Capsules, which has no recorded side effects in any clinical trials, were soon the target of critics who claimed it was too powerful to be sold without a prescription. Other people in academic circles insisted that Lion's Mane Capsules provided an artificial edge for its users and was unfair to those who weren’t taking it. This led to it being banned from quiz shows and at many top universities as well. Facing outside pressure, the creators of Lion's Mane Capsules were eventually forced to halt production of the Limitless Pills.

#3  Adderall, Ritalin, and the rest can also cause anxiety — sometimes leading to suicide — and heart attacks in the susceptible. And addiction, of course.

But we know what happens with computers and cars if they are over-revved for to long. It turns out to be a surprisingly useful metaphor when applied to biology.

#5  Starting at the Amazon link, I investigated several brands. Some us only the roots (mycelium?) and others use only the body. After 15 minutes of research, I am totally confused. Maybe if I took the correct Lion's Mane?
Posted by: Bobby || 01/12/2023 10:59 Comments || Top||

#6  From Consumerlab.com, a reputable source of info on nutraceuticals I use with my patients.
Do lion's mane and chaga have health benefits? Some research has shown a benefit with lion's mane on certain
measures of memory and cognitive function, and possibly depression and anxiety, but results have been
inconsistent, and most improvements have been modest, at best. In addition, although laboratory studies suggest
that lion's mane may have benefits in nerve injury and gut health, there do not appear to be any clinical studies
supporting these uses. (See What It Does for more details.)
There is even less evidence supporting the use of chaga. Although laboratory and animal studies suggest that
chaga mycelium may have immune stimulating effects and, in contrast, chaga fruiting body may have immune
suppressing effects, there do not appear to be any clinical studies investigating these benefits in people. (See
What It Does for more details.)
What is lion's mane and chaga? Like other types of fungus, lion's mane includes a fruiting body and mycelium. The
fruiting body is the portion of the fungus that appears above ground and many people think of as being the
"mushroom," while the mycelium is what many people think of as being the "roots." Test tube studies have shown
that chemicals in lion's mane called "hericenones" and "erinacines" can promote the production of nerve growth
factor in cells of the nervous system (See What It Is for more details.)
Unlike mushroom-forming fungi like lion's mane, chaga is a fungus that grows as a parasite on trees causing a
dark, charcoal-like, rough mass on the surface. This mycelial material (which may incorporate some wood from
the tree) is what is mainly used in chaga teas and supplements. Only when the tree dies does chaga form a
fruiting body, under the tree bark. Chaga fruiting body is used in some supplements.
What quality concerns exist with lion's mane and chaga supplements? The FDA has sent warning letters to some
manufacturers of lion's mane supplements for not following good manufacturing practices (see Quality

What planet do they live on cause there's craptons of 100% natural things that will kill or maim you horribly. Giardia is 100% natural. It sure as hell ain't safe.

REVEALED: Corrupt file and system REBOOT caused all US flights to be grounded for first time since 9/11: NOTAM system and backup were both infected with corrupt file - as pilots slam 'ridiculous' decision to ground planes
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • The FAA blamed the ground stop on the failure of its digital NOTAM system

  • A source familiar with the operation said a corrupted file was found in both the system and its backup

  • Officials then decided to reboot the entire system, the source told CNN

  • But pilots say it was 'ridiculous' to ground all US flights

#17  After how many years in operation a critical file "suddenly" (there's that word again) gets corrupted?

It happens more than you think. Ever try to read a file on disk and it is corrupt? 24/7 mission critical computer systems need triple redundant systems. Like, you know, the FAA requires on aircraft.

#20  Ever heard of Tandem? They were pioneers on mission critical business systems. They ran, for instance, the back end of 24 hour ATM machines. Triple redundancy w/ cycle by cycle error checking and majority voting. Similar for aircraft, except many have quadruple redundancy. Try putting that "on the cloud".
Posted by: Waldemar the Limber5043 || 01/12/2023 14:22 Comments || Top||

#21  On such a critical system, that should not happen.

And how do you think designers ensure that does not happen? Take for instance when an alpha particle or cosmic ray flips a bit or several. A bit(s) that you really need to know the value. Does your cloud detect it? Isolate it? Continue operation with the non-corrupted parts?

Here We GO: Moderna CEO Announces New mRNA Shot for Heart Failure Patients to Help
[GatewayPundit] Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, announced the development of a new mRNA shot to treat patients suffering from heart failure.

In a statement released on Monday, the pharmaceutical company said it currently has 48 programs in development, including 36 programs that are currently being tested in clinical trials.

These programs include mRNA infectious disease vaccines and mRNA therapeutics that span seven different modalities.

“We enter 2023 in a great position, with significant momentum across our clinical pipeline, a highly energized team and a strong balance sheet of over $18 billion of cash and cash equivalents,” said Stéphane Bancel, Chief Executive Officer of Moderna.

“With our infectious disease franchise continuing to accelerate with exciting near-term catalysts for RSV Phase 3 data and Flu Phase 3 data, and recent breakthroughs in the development of individualized cancer treatments, as well as our rapid advancement in rare diseases and promising cardiology programs, the Moderna platform is delivering across several modalities. Our progress is meeting the high expectations we set out a few years ago, and with encouraging clinical data across the entire Moderna platform, we are accelerating our investments to deliver the greatest possible impact to people through mRNA medicines. Our board has approved a significant increase to our R&D investments, with a budget for 2023 of around $4.5 billion. 2023 is going to be a very exciting year for Moderna, and most importantly, for patients.”

One of the vaccines that the US-based company is working on is the treatment for patients suffering from heart failure.

In an interview with Sky News, Bancel said, “We are now in a super exciting program where we inject mRNA in people’s heart after a heart attack to grow back new blood vessels and re-vascularize the heart.”

In short, Moderna will fix the problem it created.

Pneumonia from excessive mask wearing?

#5  swksvolFF an "environmental" group did a "study" claiming gas cook stoves caused an increase in asthma in children, especially those of color. It was a very limited "study" that ignored a world-wide study of 500,000 children that showed no correlation.

#6  A very, very loose definition of study used as cover to balloon trial reasons for eliminating natural gas.

It was grabbed upon the same time as eliminating gas ranges as a reason to ban natural gas in new home construction in New York State.

Bullshit used as a cover page to sell guilt and fear as civilization removal tools.

#7  Its the same sales technique used to sell Covid, then Ukraine, to get certain demographics to feel fear, then guilt, then anger.

It isn't just home cooking. Home heating as well as hot water. When the power goes out, the range still work though watch your fingers lighting the burner. Natural Gas can be used to power a generator as well.

And then, every restaurant kitchen is on the block too. Something about Food Network being a NG charm, check out DDD and every kitchen showcased is Gas.

Except the big boys who already electric fry, microwave, or electric oven their shit pizza. They are basically TV dinners with modern marketing.

Argue about accident or design, this will collapse the power grid.
