Investigation launched after patient in vegetative state gives birth
[NYPOST] A woman who has been in a vegetative state since she nearly drowned 10 years ago reportedly gave birth to a baby last month, prompting a sex abuse investigation at the Phoenix-area nursing facility, AZ Family reported.

The baby was born on Dec. 29 and is doing well, according to the report. The woman is reportedly a patient at Hacienda HealthCare in Phoenix.

A source familiar with the situation told AZ Family that "none of the staff were aware that she was pregnant until she was pretty much giving birth."

"From what I’ve been told she was moaning. And they didn’t know what was wrong with her," the source said.

The source told AZ Family that the patient required constant care and that many people had access to her room.

The facility has reportedly changed protocol after the Dec. 29 birth. Male staff needing to enter a female room are required to bring a female employee with them, the source said.

A Hacienda HealthCare nurse declined Fox News’ request for comment because it would be a HIPPA violation and referred questions to the CEO of the nursing facility. The Phoenix Police Department did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

Hacienda issued a statement to AZ Family saying it has been in business in the valley for over 50 years and "has an outstanding reputation providing high-quality specialized care for our patients."

"As a Healthcare provider, we cannot comment on any patient due to Federal and State privacy laws. Additionally, we cannot comment on any ongoing investigations. We can say that our patients and clients health and safety is our #1 priority and that we always cooperate, when asked by any agency, in an open and transparent way."

Authorities are investigating the facility for possible sex abuse, AZ Family reported. No further details were released.
It sounds like a direct plot theft from the movie Kill Bill #1

Update: Five Children On Way To Disney Among Those Killed In Fiery Crash
[Daily Caller] Florida Highway Patrol said five children on their way to Disney World were among those killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 75 near Gainesville, Florida, on Thursday.

The children were traveling in a large passenger van from Louisiana, The Associated Press reported Friday. Two truck drivers were killed and at least eight people were injured.

The crash involved the van along with two tractor-trailers and a midsize sedan, WKMG reported. The fire occurred after nearly 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road.

At least 24 cases of scabies found at Michigan's only women's prison
[Detroit Free Press] LANSING ‐ There's a breakthrough in the case of the mysterious rash at Michigan's only women's prison as 24 women there have been diagnosed with scabies ‐ an ailment prison officials had previously ruled out.

Notices have been posted at Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility warning prisoners, staff and visitors of the outbreak and an epidemiologist has been called in, as the number of women diagnosed with scabies is expected to grow, Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz said Friday.

Scabies is a skin infestation caused by a microscopic mite. If not properly treated, the mites can live on skin for months, burrow, and lay eggs, causing an itchy red rash. Scabies can be easily treated with topical lotions and/or pills such as Ivermectin.

House Democrats Gear Up to Introduce Their First Gun Control Bill of The New Congress
[Townhall] Democrats have wasted little time shaking up Washington, D.C. since they were sworn into office on Thursday. In fact, Democratic leadership in the House is planning to make a big splash on Tuesday, when Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Mike Thompson introduce legislation requiring universal background checks for firearm purchase. The duo decided to do it on Tuesday, Jan. 8th because it's the eight anniversary of former Rep. Gabby Gifford’s shooting, which took place Jan. 8, 2011. And, to continue with the "eight" theme, the bill is also called House Resolution 8, POLITICO reported.

Giffords has worked with the pair to bring about this piece of legislation.

"Since the shooting at Sandy Hook, the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force has been fighting for a chance to pass legislation that will help save lives," Thompson told POLITICO. "Finally, with our new majority that ran on helping to prevent gun violence, we will introduce a bipartisan, universal background checks bill. We will hold hearings, we will have a vote, and this legislation will finally pass the House."

#3  Depends on where you live and what you are going to use it for. A 410/22 combo is a great survival firearm for in the country/woods and can nab varmints and birds. Not high on the self defense scale though.

In a city, a 12 gauge or a AR-15 is a better choice for self defense.

Ideally, I would at least suggest a 22 for survival and a 12 gauge for hunting/defense.

#4  Is the federal shutdown affecting the sale of guns?
Posted by: Anguper Hupomosing9418 || 01/05/2019 11:45 Comments || Top||

#5  Getting into guns? Get a good pistol, 9mm (see below for why a 9), and the 410/22 shotgun/rifle is a great suggestion for a starter longarm.

Survival? you need a decent shotgun, a good pistol, and a 22 rifle.

For the 22, take what you like. You can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22 - its an easy rifle, and once you decide to modify it, there are tons of kits and oprtions out there to turn it into all kinds "tacticool" looks as well as adding to the functionality. Marlin isnt a bad option either.

Shotgun? 12ga because its deadly, dead simple, plentiful ammunition, and has multiple practical uses in home defense and hunting. 870 is the most common here, and like the 22 above, lots of hardware modifications you can do to make it to your liking.

Last but not least: a reliable 9mm pistol. Some will criticize the round, but plentiful and cheaper ammunition makes that a moot point if you're talking survival or actually putting in a lot of range time to get good with it - as well as having a lower "flinch" factor and kick, something people overlook for new gun owners. Find one you like and spend a lot of range time with it because for the most part, practice is more important than the brand and caliber. If you want a bigger round, move up to it after you get good with your 9.

Plenty of good 9mm pistols out there, my favorite is the Glock because there are a ton of them around, they hold a ton of ammo in the standard magazine, they last a long time, they are very simple to operate and maintain, and not all that expensive, especially if you buy a used one in good shape.

YMMV, welcome to the gun world.

I've been researching for a while and for nothing other than aesthetics like the looks of the CZ 75 pistol and their 457 Lux .22 etc.

From my research at Nation of Riflemen I've seen many recommendations. One that is interesting is a Henry or Marlin lever gun in .357 paired with a Ruger revolver.

The problem is that there are too many choices.

Brazil: Bolsonaro Promises to Fire ‘Communist' Government Employees
[Breitbart] Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s chief of staff Onyx Lorenzoni told reporters following a cabinet meeting Thursday that Bolsonaro intends to fire any "communists" who work for the government currently, contending that those holding opposing ideological views to the new government cannot properly execute its goals.

Bolsonaro, who defeated the socialist Workers’ Party (PT) candidate Fernando Haddad in October’s run-off presidential election, ran a campaign vowing to eradicate Marxist thought from the government and from Brazil’s schools and spearhead a movement of small-government conservatives in Latin America who opposed the ideologies of the region’s dictatorships, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.

"Society said ’enough’ to socialist and communist ideas which, in the past 30 years, brought us to the chaos were are living today," Lorenzoni told reporters, explaining that this mandate made it necessary to remove Marxists from top positions in the government according to the Spanish news agency EFE. To accomplish this, the Bolsonaro administration will begin a review of some of the highest-ranking officials.

Foreign diplomats urge Venezuela’s Maduro to hand over power

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korean diplomat in Italy 'seeking asylum'
[Saudi Gazette] North Korea's top diplomat in Italia has sought asylum and gone into hiding, Seoul politicians told news hounds after a closed-door meeting with South Korean intelligence officials on Thursday.

It would mark the latest high-profile defection by a senior North Korean envoy since the deputy ambassador in London abandoned his post in 2016.

"Acting ambassador Jo Song Gil's term was ending in late November last year and he escaped the diplomatic compound in early November" with his wife, politician Kim Min-ki told news hounds.

Jo, 48, has been acting ambassador in Rome since October 2017 after Italia expelled the then ambassador Mun Jong Nam in protest at a North Korean nuclear test a month earlier in violation of UN resolutions.

Italia is an important diplomatic mission for Pyongyang, as it handles relations with the Rome-headquartered UN Food and Agriculture Organization and North Korea suffers from chronic food shortages.

Another member of the South Korean parliament, Lee Eun-jae, told news hounds that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) had confirmed the envoy had sought asylum, but did not appear to know his whereabouts.

A source close to the Italian Foreign Ministry told AFP on Thursday the country had "no knowledge" of any asylum request from Jo.

The source said the ministry had simply received a request for the "replacement" of the diplomat, but did not know Jo's whereabouts, adding that the replacement had arrived in Rome.

The NIS briefing to politicians came after South Korea's JoongAng Ilbo daily reported that Jo had sought asylum in an unidentified Western country with his family.

"He sought asylum early last month," the JoongAng quoted a diplomatic source in Seoul as saying. Italian authorities were "agonizing" over what to do, the official was cited as saying, but added that they were "protecting him in a safe place".

Jo is "known to be a son or son-in-law of one of the highest-level officials in the North's regime", the JoongAng cited an unnamed North Korea expert as saying.

Most North Korean diplomats serving overseas are normally required to leave several family members ‐ typically children ‐ behind in Pyongyang to prevent their defection while working abroad.

Jo however came to Rome in May 2015 with his wife and children, suggesting he may be from a privileged family, the JoongAng said, adding the reason for his defection bid was still unclear.

Economy
156,945,000: 2018 Ends With Record Employment; Participation Rate Hits Trump-Era High
(CNSNews.com) - Amid concerns about trade with China and rollercoaster stock markets, the final employment report of 2018 counts as good news.

The Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Friday the economy added an impressivve 312,000 jobs in December, which was a month of strong retail sales; and the nation's unemployment rate increased two-tenths of a point to 3.9 percent, which is still an 18-year low.

The number of employed Americans has now set a 14th record under Trump:

When Trump became president in January 2017, 152,076,000 Americans were employed. Last month, that number grew to a record 156,945,000, a gain of 4,869,000 in two years.

At the same time, the number of unemployed Americans increased by 276,000 last month, to 6,294,000, as more people were actively looking for work but had not found a job.

In another positive sign, the labor force participation rate increased two-tenths of a point to 63.1 percent, the highest it's been since Trump took office.

In December, the nation’s civilian noninstitutionalized population, consisting of all people age 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution, reached 258,888,000. Of those, 163,240,000 participated in the labor force by either holding a job or actively seeking one.

#1  Might be record LEGAL employment, i.e. colonists de-colonising.

#2  As interest rates rise higher the ponzi scheme of borrowing is in danger of collapsing. 'The Fed' provides a useful function as relief valve and insider trading agent.

As 'The Fed' announces rate hikes, the market sells off, usually at a high. As 'The Fed' backs off the proposed rate hike, the market springs back with a massive 'buy'....usually at a low.

Do you suppose the same people 'selling off' are also buying ?

#4  Unfortunately, recent events show that pocket book issues are not the determining factor that they once were.

Otherwise, Romney would have won in 2012, and the GOP would not have lost this House.

Now, the response to that might be "Well, the GOP threw the House and Romney sucked."

All true, but it buttresses my point.

Having a good economy is not enough to win any more.

With one significant exception, most population groups in this country voted by identity.

And no amount of rah-rah about the economy, unemployment or the stock market will change that fact.

Iraq
Deadly Landmines still cost lives in Iraq’s Basra province
Basra (IraqiNews.com) Thirty-year-old landmines littering Iraq’s southern Basra province are still harvesting lives, according to a parliament representative from the province.

Iraqi al-Maalomah website quoted Zahra al-Bagari saying that landmines kabooms left 20 people dead throughout 2018.

She said more than 1.300 billion square meters of land in the province are still contaminated with radiative items and military ordinance from past wars.

Bagari added that local organizations are so bankrupt that they failed to receive a Japanese minesweeper to remove the explosives. She urged the Iraqi government to help with finances to receive the machine,

The United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
said in February it had cleared more than 45.000 explosive ordnance from all over Iraq, and that the continuation of purging efforts could need at least a decade.
