Police fire tear gas to break up Sudan protests on ‘Friday of Change’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sudanese police fired tear gas on Friday to break up protests in the capital Khartoum and its twin city of Omdurman, witnesses said, after Protests swept over many Sudanese cities including the capital Khartoum following Friday’s prayers, under the motto: "Freedom and Change".

On Thursday night, Sudanese security forces fired tear gas to disperse protesters who were trying to deliver an anti-government petition to the local headquarters of President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
’s ruling party in Port Sudan, a witness said.

22 Sudanese political parties signed a memorandum on Tuesday and was sent to al-Bashir, calling for the dissolution of the Sudanese government and parliament.

For his part, Sudan’s President held a presser on Thursday saying that the country is being targeted by an economic war since 21 years of imposed sanctions, warning that "protests do not mean vandalism, burning and destruction."

Since the demonstrations began, Bashir has appeared largely unperturbed, tempering his talk of conspiracies against Sudan with pledges of economic reform, calls for restraint and the announcement of a fact-finding committee - steps dismissed by protesters as symbolic.

"We are committed to holding free and fair elections in 2020, and we ask that all political powers prepare to participate," Bashir said on Monday.

U.N. Says Arab Migrants 'Missing' after Seeking Shelter in Algeria
[AnNahar] The U.N. refugee agency has voiced "concern" for the safety of 100 Arab citizens who went missing after seeking shelter in Algeria and others stranded at the border with Niger.

"Some 120 Syrian, Paleostinian and Yemeni individuals were detained at the Tamanrasset Center in southern Algeria before being taken to an area near the Guezzam border post (at the southern border with Niger) on 26 December," the UNHCR said in a statement.

Some members of the group were "known to UNHCR as registered refugees who have fled conflict and persecution or claim to have attempted to seek international protection in Algeria," it added.

The U.N. agency said 20 members of the group "remain stranded in the desert," several kilometers from the Guezzam border post.

"The other 100 individuals who were taken to the border are unaccounted for," it added.

Hacen Kacimi, an Algeria interior ministry official, told AFP on Thursday that a group of about 100 people, mostly Syrians from Aleppo, had been "expelled" on suspicion of links to jihadist groups.

Kacimi, who heads the ministry's migration department, said they had entered Algeria illegally and were put on trial in September and that the court ordered their expulsion.

His comments came after the Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights on Monday denounced the deportation to Niger of 50 mostly Syrian migrants colonists, including women and kiddies, who were smuggled into the country in September.

Rights groups regularly criticize Algeria for its treatment of sub-Saharan migrants colonists, many of whom are hoping to reach Europe.
Except Syrian, Paleostinian, and Yemeni trash Arabs aren't Sub-Saharans
An October report from the U.N. urged Algeria to stop collective expulsions of African migrants colonists across its border with Niger, after rights groups accused Algiers or rounding up thousands of people and expelling them into the desert.

Algeria, which does not have asylum legislation, has faced an influx of sub-Saharan migrants colonists in recent years, with rights groups estimating some 100,000 have entered the country in recent years.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia facing mounting opposition in occupied parts of Yemen
[PRESSTV] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is facing mounting opposition in areas it occupies in Yemen, leading US daily the Wall Street Journal has reported.

Many view Saudi presence and its alleged development projects as a pretext for the kingdom to entrench its control in the country by controlling Yemen's highly vulnerable infrastructure, the paper said.

"We are under Saudi occupation. We don’t need the Saudis," it quoted former deputy governor of al-Mahra Ali bin Salem al-Huraizy, who has helped organize protests against the Saudi presence in the past.

Saudi Arabia has taken control over the province's seaports and airports, using them to deploy hundreds of troops in the region.

"There are illegitimate troops in these areas. Are there forces that belong to the Houthis to be fought by the coalition here? The answer is a big ’no’," al-Mahra and Socotra People’s General Council member Abdullah bin Issa al-Aafra said.

A senior Yemeni official close to the country's Saudi-backed former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi explained that even Saudi-allied Yemeni officials had no control over the kingdom's expansion in the region.

"We are allied with the Saudi-led coalition, but we don’t accept any violation of our illusory sovereignty," he said, speaking on the condition of anonymity in fear of Saudi retribution.

Europe
Illegal migration into EU hits 5-year low: Frontex
[DW] Populist anti-immigration parties have gained strength in many European countries following a massive influx of migration into the EU. The bloc's border agency says illegal arrivals in 2018 fell to around 150,000 people.

Some 150,000 people entered the European Union illegally in 2018, the bloc's border agency said on Friday, the lowest figure in five years.

Migration has dominated the political agenda across the European Union in recent years and could be a crucial issue in the buildup to European Parliament elections in May.

Frontex's estimates:
  • Detected illegal crossings were around 25 percent lower in 2018 than in 2017 and 92 percent below 2015, the height of the migration crisis.

  • Spain replaced Italy as the border country that received the most illegal immigrants, taking in some 57,000 people. That was double the number registered in 2017.

  • 23,000 illegal immigrants arrived in Italy, a fall of 80 percent compared to 2017.

  • Illegal arrivals increased through Greece and Cyprus, with a total of 56,000 people entering the EU via those two countries.

  • Most arrivals came from Afghanistan, Syria or Iran and were men. Only 18 percent of illegal arrivals were women. One-in-five told officials they were under the age of 18.

Why are arrivals down? Deals between the EU and transit countries such as Turkey and Libya to keep migrants from crossing into the bloc partially account for the fall in arrivals, Shoshana Fine from the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) told DW. Increased investment in the bloc's border security and the growth in anti-migration sentiment and policies in many EU countries, particularly Italy, also explains the fall, she said.

Preliminary data: The figures represent detected border crossings. The same person could be registered multiple times if they crossed the border into the EU several times at different locations.

Election year: Populist parties have exploited migration to bolster their influence in Germany, Italy and Austria in recent years and are expected to continue doing so in the run-up to the European Parliament elections in May.

Italian mayors rebel against Salvini migrant laws

[DW] Several left-wing mayors in Italia have refused to obey the "anti-migrant" policies of interior minister, Matteo Salvini. The right-wing leader has spearheaded a move to tighten asylum laws.

France to tackle English Channel migrant crossings

[DW] La Belle France will increase police patrols and surveillance along its northern coast to tackle an uptick in the number of people trying to illegally cross the English Channel to the United Kingdom, La Belle France's interior ministry said on Friday.

More than 500 people, many of whom are from Iran, tried to cross the Channel in 2018, with most crossings occurring in the past two months. Under pressure to find a solution, the UK has stepped up marine patrols along its Channel coast.

"It's in our interest, as well as the United Kingdom's, to do everything to prevent new networks (of people smugglers) developing, which would likely attract irregular migrants colonists to our shores again," the French Interior Ministry said.

#1  Legal migration is still vastly too high.

The whole shengen idea of allowing people to work in any european vassal state regardless of relative land costs is a disaster for locals in that nation.

Finland Leader Attacks ‘Hate Speech’ Against Foreign Child Sex Abusers
[Breitbart] Finland’s prime minister has used a New Year’s address to demand citizens refrain from "disseminating hate speech" in the wake of investigations into a foreign rape gang preying on maiden of tender yearss.

Juha Sipilä referred to recent events in Oulu, where police have identified 10 foreign suspects in connection with cases involving grooming, sexual abuse, and violence against children as young as ten as he warned Finns not to "stir up hatred" against migrants colonists.

While acknowledging the incidents had "provoked shock and anger" across the country, the prime minister insisted "it should be emphasised that the suspected crimes were committed by individuals, not by population groups".

"I call for these events not to be used in anger against refugees or people of foreign origin," Sipilä said in his speech on Monday, telling citizens: "Let me point out that vigilante justice is a crime in the eyes of the law, as is disseminating hate speech."

"Persons found guilty of crimes will be held accountable for their actions in accordance with the rule of law," stated the Centre Party leader, underscoring the government’s recent vow to get tough on foreign criminals as he added that "serious offences will negatively affect [a third world migrant’s chances] of obtaining a permanent residence permit."

Breitbart London reported last month on plans being considered by Finnish politicians which would revoke citizenship from foreign nationals who have been convicted of crimes related to terrorism or treason.

After the scandal in Oulu became known, in which the suspects either entered Finland as illegal immigrants colonists or were shipped into the country through various refugee quota schemes, interior minister Kai Mykkänen urged politicians to extend the bill so that sanctions would also apply to individuals found guilty of serious sexual crimes.

Police in the northwestern city and municipality have pointed to a large rise in the number of asylum seekers since 2015 as a major contributor to an increase in sexual violence, while official statistics from 2017 revealed that ‐ nationally ‐ Iraqi and Afghan migrants colonists were overrepresented by up to 40 times amongst sexual assault suspects compared to native Finns.

The Grand Turk
NYT: Exodus of brains, talents, wealth from Turkey due to Erdogan’s policies
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A report by published The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

on January 3 has highlighted the anguish of the Ottoman Turkish people who are leaving the country in large numbers due to President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
’s policies, especially after the failed 2016 coup.

According to the report, for 17 years, Erdogan won elections by offering voters a vision of restoring the glories of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s Ottoman past, but after the 2016 he embarked on a sweeping crackdown.

Also the deteriorating economy, which has led to the Ottoman Turkish currency plunging, has made Turks take a different approach by leaving the country in droves and taking talent and capital with them, in a way that indicates a broad and alarming loss of confidence in Erdogan’s vision, according to government statistics and analysts.

More than a quarter of a million Turks emigrated in 2017, according to the Ottoman Turkish Institute of Statistics, an increase of 42 percent over 2016, when nearly 178,000 citizens left the country.

At least 12,000 of Turkey’s millionaires ‐ around 12 percent of the country’s wealthy class ‐ moved their assets out of the country in 2016 and 2017, according to the Global Wealth Migration Review, an annual report produced by AfrAsia Bank.

The top court said that once the trial court had granted extension of time to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to complete the investigation in the case, the accused was not entitled to statutory bail.

A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Hemant Gupta said the trial court and the Delhi High Court have applied their mind and there was no illegality in the decision.

Bolsonaro confirms Brazil to move embassy to Jerusalem
[IsraelTimes] Brazilian leader says only Iran strongly opposed to step, most Arab nations not expected to sanction Brasilia.
Thank you, President Trump, for starting this trend.
Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has confirmed he will move his country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, and said the main nation objecting to that is Iran, not Arab countries.

Bolsonaro, speaking in an interview to SBT television late Thursday, said: "The decision is taken, it’s only a matter of when it will be implemented."

In his SBT interview, Bolsonaro said: "A large part of the Arab world is aligned or aligning itself with the United States. The Paleostinian issue is already overloading people in the Arab world for the most part."

He added that "the only weighty voice speaking out against me is Iran," the Shiite Islamic republic that is an enemy to Israel and hostile to Arab allies of the US such as Soddy Arabia
