Man rejects first penis transplant
Yeah, yeah, I know it's not the WoT, but tell me how I'm supposed to pass this up for the Burg.
Chinese surgeons have performed the world's first penis transplant on a man whose organ was damaged beyond repair in an accident this year. The incident left the man with a 1cm-long stump with which he was unable to urinate or have sexual intercourse. "His quality of life was affected severely," said Dr Weilie Hu, a surgeon at Guangzhou General Hospital.

Doctors spent 15 hours attaching a 10 cm penis to the 44-year-old patient after the parents of a brain-dead man half his age agreed to donate their son's organ. The procedure, described in a case study due to appear in the journal European Urology next month, represents a big leap forward in transplant surgery; it required complex microsurgery to connect nerves and tiny blood vessels.

The surgical team claims the operation was a success. After 10 days, tests revealed the organ had a rich blood supply and the man was able to urinate normally. However, surgeons said they had to remove the penis two weeks later. "Because of a severe psychological problem of the recipient and his wife, the transplanted penis regretfully had to be cut off," Dr Hu said. An examination of the organ showed no signs of it being rejected by the body.

Jean-Michel Dubernard, the French surgeon who performed the world's first face transplant on a woman who had been attacked by a dog this year, said psychological factors were a serious issue for many patients receiving certain "allografts", or organs from donors. "Psychological consequences of hand and face allografts show that it is not so easy to use and see permanently a dead person's hands, nor is it easy to look in a mirror to see a dead person's face," he wrote in the journal. "Clearly, in the Chinese case the failure at a very early stage was first psychological. It involved the recipient's wife and raised many questions."

Andrew George, a transplant expert at Imperial College, London, said: "Doing a penis transplant should be no more complex than anything else. But it takes time for nerve sensations to kick in and it's not clear whether the patient would ever be able to have sex with it. The question is whether it's right to be doing a transplant for what may be seen as cosmetic reasons."

#3  I know a real estate agent in Hawaii. It is a major deal for Chinese buyers if the previous owner died in the house. I don't quite understand this, as it would seem that Chinese would be less likely to die in a hospital and thus at home. But apparently, if you are selling to Chinese clients and they find out that the house is being sold because gram or gramps died - the first thing they will want to know is if he someone died in the house. If so - that's a big negative.

So along that line, I'm guessing that having a dead man's penis could cause a few problems for the wife.

#8  Additionally, any "flesh of the dead" issues probably do not apply here. When harvesting organs from a brain dead donor, the operations can be done without awaiting cessation of all vital functions. This ensures maximum vitality of the transplanted tissues and reduces the possibility of rejection.

Much more likely is idiotic superstition at work. Especially considering how the average size of a Chinese male's genitals are substantially less than the dimensions cited in the article. At a whopping 10cm, this guy would have been a regular Asiatic John Holmes.

The unerect penises of Chinese men (aged 18 to 45) are between 4.5 and 8.8 centimeters (1.6 to 3.5 inches) long, with the average length being 6.5 centimeters (2.5 inches).

The long and the short of it is more likely how this guy's wife choked in the clinch.

#14  It's all about me mode on/

Now, I understand better.

Some anatomical details of mine, lol.

Except for those unfortunate chinese traits Phil-B attributed to the retaining of juvenile features, I'm not chinese-looking at all (grandfather's father was a WWI chinese worker called in to supplement french workforce along with about 100 000 of his fellows); in fact, I've got polish (jew, given name), jewish, czech, italian, chinese, and probably swiss, ancestry, but unfortunately, I've got all the bad genes from that. I'm the stuff that has stuck to the bottom of the Melting Pot (only good thing about me is that I'm mostly harmless).
And my direct family also includes nepalese, turkish (jew), sierra-leonese, dutch, and even arab lineage through alliances.

Doesn't prevent me from being a french born-and-raised non-practicing catholic little porker.
Posted by: anonymous5089 || 09/18/2006 5:05 Comments || Top||

#15  All humans exhibit many characteristics due to neotony, the retention of juvenile characteristics into adulthood. The relative hairlessness of humans compared to other apes is commonly cited as an example.

Chinese exhibit markedly more neotony in sexual characteristics than Europeans for example. European men have significantly wider shoulders than women, and women wider hips. These sex differences and others like body hair, are noticeably less pronounced in Chinese and result from neotony as these differences are much less pronounced in children.

I told A5089 it means he is more evolved than us knuckle dragging Caucasians.

#27  Yet you refer to facts mentioned in the post (# 15) subsequent to yours.

Ah, ok, ok. This is because this very subject was already evoked by Phil_B in an earlier thread, given the popularity of penis-related issues in RB - penis enlargement fraud, penis enarglement, penis damaged during sex with dangerous animals, submissive asian wimmen cutting off penis, nut cutting off own penis, false penis warmed up in microwave-oven, etc, etc... I think if it's penis-related, it was posted here -, and my tendancy to whine about my shortcomings (literally, in this case).
No clairvoyance, just a coincidence Phil_B commented right after me, with the same earlier argument.

Mexico celebrates without violence on Independence Day
Mexico celebrated its independence with a military parade Saturday, after the traditional 'Cry' was held without incident. The day was set to end with a so-called National Democratic Convention held by the supporters of leftist presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in Mexico City's Zocalo square.
“The rally was set to last several hours and seemed likely to result in the proclamation of Lopez Obrador, the losing candidate in Mexico's July 2 presidential election, as the country's 'legitimate president.'”
The rally, which started two hours after its scheduled time amid heavy rain, was set to last several hours and seemed likely to result in the proclamation of Lopez Obrador, the losing candidate in Mexico's July 2 presidential election, as the country's 'legitimate president.'

Lopez Obrador, who lost the election by 0.56 percentage points to conservative candidate Felipe Calderon of the ruling centre-right National Action Party (PAN), has said that vote was fraudulent and refuses to concede defeat. His followers have demanded a full recount. The former mayor of Mexico City, Lopez Obrador hoped to gather 1 million people for Saturday's demonstration. He opened the rally alongside allies including current Mexico City Mayor Alejandro Encinas and Elena Poniatowska.

Gerardo Fernandez Norona, spokesman of Lopez Obrador's centre-left Party of Democratic Revolution (PRD), said that the convention would probably recognize Lopez Obrador 'as the legitimate president' in the face of 'usurpation' by Calderon. Lopez Obrador, who has called his followers to prevent Calderon's scheduled inauguration on December 1, had proposed that the convention designate a 'legitimate president' or a coordinator of 'peaceful civic resistance.'

Some Mexican intellectuals and even left-wing leaders including PRD founder Cuauhtemoc Cardenas have criticized the plan to proclaim Lopez Obrador as president, and have warned against violating Mexico's constitutional process.

Europe
Center-right alliance wins power in Sweden
A Center-right alliance led by Moderate Party leader Fredrik Reinfeldt won power in Sweden in an election on Sunday, ending 12 years of Social Democrat rule by vowing to lower taxes and trim the welfare state. Reinfeldt, who will be the next prime minister, declared victory in a tight election. Social Democrat Prime Minister Goran Persson, one of Europe's longest-serving leaders, conceded defeat after 10 years in office and will quit as party chief. According to almost complete results from Sweden's Election Commission, the four-party opposition bloc had won 48.0 percent of votes to 46.2 percent for Persson and his allies.

And if they know it, the MM knows it too. Which of course leaves us only two possibilities - the MM is knowingly lying to us, or these guys are suffering from a case of cognitive dissonance that boggles the mind...and I'm not so sure that the correct answer isn't the latter.
