Africa Subsaharan
US army to provide equipment, intelligence to fight Boko Haram
[Ynet] The United States military will provide communications equipment and intelligence to help African nations in the fight against Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, the commander of US Special Forces operations in Africa said.

West African military commanders have long complained that cross-border operations against Islamist groups, from al Qaeda in the Islamic

Maghreb (AQIM) in Mali to Boko Haram in Nigeria, have been obstructed by lack of compatible communications equipment, making it hard to swap information and coordinate.

Brigadier General James Linder said that, as part of the annual US-backed 'Flintlock' counter-terrorism exercises this year in Chad, the United States would provide technology allowing African partners to communicate between cellphones, radios and computers.

The system also incorporates a translation function that would allow commanders in francophone countries like Chad to communicate by message with English-speaking officers in Nigeria, a US military officer said.

Bangladesh
Hasina: Stand up against BNP and Jamaat's terrorism
[Dhaka Tribune] Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged all to be united against mindless violence unleashed by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

"I urge all conscious people, especially those who believe in the country's Liberation War and independence, to get united against BNP-Jamaat's terrorism and militant acts."

The premier was speaking at an exhibition on countrywide violence at the National Museum in the capital.

Central Publicity and Publication Sub-Committee of ruling Awami League organised the programme with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Political Advisor HT Imam in the chair.

"I ask those, who requested the government to sit with BNP-Jamaat alliance, to tell the BNP leader (Khaleda Zia) to stop burning and killing people."

Several arson victims, their relatives, government ministers, diplomats from India, China, Russia, US, representatives of the European Union and Red Cross, newspapers editors, lawyers, public and private university vice-chancellors, among others, joined the function.

The event titled 'BNP-Jamaat's Arson Violence-Blood Stained Bangladesh' screened a documentary on people burnt in the ongoing countrywide blockade and shutdowns.

The emotion-choked premier several times broke down in tears as the documentary progressed.

Burn victims and their relatives at the discussion described their harrowing tales to the audience.

A somber silence descended upon the audience as Maisha's mother Marufa Begum was narrating the story of the hell she along with her family members had to get through.

Marufa's voice cracked several times because of strong emotion as she described how all the hell broke loose upon her family.

Marufa's daughter Maisha died in an arson attack when she was on her way back home from a Cox's Bazar tour with her father and mother.

In the attack 11 people including Maisha and her father were burnt to death on the spot while 30 other seriously injured. Marufa too received grave burn injury in the petrol bomb attack.

The prime minister addressed the audience after the documentary ended.

Mentioning that her government would do whatever needed to safeguard the lives and property of people, Sheikh Hasina sought cooperation of people to contain the mindless violence of BNP-Jamaat alliance.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president questioned: "If people are killed who Khaleda Zia will do politics for?"

The premier said those who were killed in the arson attack by BNP-Jamaat men are innocent people and should be treated as martyrs.

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has been enforcing an indefinite blockade and intermittent shutdowns since January 06 to press for a snap poll.

As per the government statistics 55 people have been killed in arson and petrol bomb attacks since then with another 556 injured.

Europe
Paris jihadists believed to have met night before attacks
[IsraelTimes] Investigators say Cherif Kouachi, Coulibaly were in direct contact preceding three-day terror spree

French Sherlocks believe they have established that the jihadists who struck Gay Paree last month were in direct contact before the attacks, a security source said on Tuesday.

Phone records appear to show that Cherif Kouachi and Amedy Coulibaly met the night before they started three days of violence in and around Gay Paree on January 7.

They are thought to have met in Gennevilliers, the town near Gay Paree where Kouachi lived, a security source told AFP, confirming a report in Le Monde newspaper.

Around one hour before Cherif Kouachi attacked Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
magazine with his brother Said, a text message was sent from near his home to one of the 13 phone numbers belonging to Coulibaly, the security source said.

Coulibaly shot a policewoman the next day and went on to kill four people after taking hostages at a Jewish supermarket on January 9.

All three attackers were killed by police.

Coulibaly claimed in a posthumous video that he had coordinated his attacks with the Kouachi brothers, but it has not been clear to what extent they directly planned together.

Danish intelligence: No sign gunman was planning attacks
[Ynet] A change in Omar El-Hussein's behavior last summer while he was awaiting trial for stabbing attack led jail authorities to alert Danish counter-terror agency about him.

Denmark's domestic intelligence service acknowledged Tuesday that prison officials alerted the agency last year to the suspected gunman in last weekend's shooting attacks that killed two people and maimed five in Copenhagen.

The Danish Security and Intelligence Service, known by its Danish acronym PET, said the report in September didn't give any reason to believe that the 22-year-old was planning an attack.

PET also said it didn't have any intelligence before the gunman's shooting sprees at a cultural center and synagogue that an attack was imminent.

A Danish documentary filmmaker and a Jewish security guard died and five coppers were maimed in the shootings before the gunman was killed early Sunday in a firefight with a SWAT team.

Two sources close to the case identified the gunman to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named as Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein. One said he was released from jail about two weeks before the attacks after serving time for a stabbing in November 2013.

A Denmark native with Paleostinian parents, El-Hussein had been in and out of prison since 2011 after being convicted of weapons, violence and other offenses, court documents showed.

While he was awaiting trial for the random stabbing attack on a train passenger, a change in his behavior last summer set off enough "alarm bells" for jail authorities to alert PET, Denmark's counter-terror agency, a source close to the investigation told AP.

Such warnings usually set in motion counter-radicalization efforts, such as counseling in jail. It wasn't immediately clear how aware the court was of this issue; court documents no mention of it.

Sentenced to the time he had already served, El-Hussein was released about two weeks ago, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
because police haven't officially identified the gunman.

On Monday, a judge ordered 10 days of pre-trial detention for two people accused of helping el-Hussein get rid of a weapon while evading authorities. Both men deny the charges, said Michael Juul Eriksen, a defense lawyer for one of the two.

Denmark's prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt said there was no indication that the gunman was part of a wider cell, but gave no evidence for that claim. She joined Danish Crown Prince Frederik, foreign dignitaries and some 30,000 people Monday night to honor the victims outside the Krudttoenden cultural center.

The center, which was hosting a panel discussion with a Swedish artist who had caricatured the Prophet Muhammad, was the gunman's first target Saturday. The artist, Lars Vilks, was whisked away unharmed by his bodyguards. A 55-year-old documentary filmmaker was killed and three coppers were maimed.

Later Saturday, police say, the gunman visited an Internet cafe before moving on to the synagogue, where he opened fire early Sunday on the Jewish security guard and two coppers.

Denmark has foiled a series of terror plots since the 2005 publication of 12 caricatures of the prophet in the Jyllands-Posten newspaper triggered riots in Moslem countries and calls for vengeance

France: Tracking hundreds involved in potential terror sleeper cells
[Ynet] La Belle France's top security official says the country is tracking hundreds of people believed to belong to possible sleeper cells for terror organizations. In an interview with The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve laid out the increasingly urgent question for intelligence services: How to identify when someone transforms from a disgruntled criminal into a terrorist and how to block that radicalization.

Cazeneuve wants new laws to give intelligence services more leeway to monitor electronic communications and is heading to the United States this week to talk to Internet giants about stemming online propaganda.
The Times of Israel quantifies it as "400 terror sleeper cell suspects".

#1  Brink dies whilst in route home after receiving award in Europe. Oh the irony and unspoken parallels. Meanwhile, SA President Jacob Zuma advocates the outlawing of foreign owned land and ISIS threatens Rome. We all know it's fate, Europe will either evict and separate itself from the Mohammedan, or it will die.

7 Feb 2-15 - South African writer Andre Brink, one of the most outspoken critics of the apartheid regime, has died.

Brink, 79, died on Friday night on board a flight to Cape Town after visiting Belgium where he had received an honorary doctorate, local media say.

Brink wrote in Afrikaans as well as English. His novels have been translated into more than 30 languages.

Some of his books, including A Dry White Season which was turned into a film, were banned in South Africa. Other novels include Looking on Darkness and Philida for which he was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2012.

Andre Brink was a literature professor at the University of Cape Town at the time of his death.

Suspected Copenhagen gunman reportedly swore fidelity to Islamic State
[Ynet] In a post on what is believed to be Omar El-Hussein's Facebook profile, he pledges allegiance to IS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
'in full obedience in the good and bad things'.

Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein, the gunnies suspected of killing two people in Copenhagen over the weekend, allegedly swore allegiance to Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, CNN reported on Tuesdays.

In a post on what is apparently el-Hussein's Facebook page just before the shooting spree in the Danish capital, he pledges "allegiance to Abu Bakr in full obedience in the good and bad things. And I won't dispute with him unless it is an outrageous disbelief."

El-Hussein, 22, who was identified as the gunnies by a senior Danish government member, was killed in a shootout with police early Sunday morning.

The suspect shooter was known to police precisely because of his connections to gangs. El-Hussein was convicted two months ago of a violent assault against a commuter on a train in 2013, and was said to have been released from prison just two weeks ago after serving a term for aggravated assault - raising fears he may have become radicalized behind bars.

Local media said he was the son of Paleostinian immigrants who argued aggressively about the Israel-Paleostinian conflict, had a short fuse, but had not shown signs of radicalization that could lead to an attack.

Dozens of bouquets of flowers were left outside a building in the neighbourhood of Noerrebro where El-Hussein was rubbed out on Monday.

Four young men wearing hooded tops and with their faces covered later came to move the bouquets, saying it was un-Islamic to leave flowers for deaths. They said they were from Mjoelerparken, the same area as El-Hussein, where many residents are immigrants. One of the men, identifying himself only as Mohammed, said: "He was a good guy. He wasn't a terrorist. It's Denmark, the United States and Israel who are the terrorists."
That's certainly one view.

Italy Fears ISIS Invasion From Libya
"We will conquer Rome" is a pretty direct warning. It'll be at least a month before they convince themselves there's nothing to worry about.
[THEDAILYBEAST] Last weekend in Italia, as the threat of ISIS in Libya hit home with a new video addressed to "the nation signed with the blood of the cross" and the warning, "we are south of Rome," Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi shuttered up the Italian embassy in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and raised his fist with the threat of impending military action. Never mind that Italia has only 5,000 troops available that are even close to deployable, according to the defense ministry. Or that the military budget was cut by 40 percent two years ago, which has kept the acquisition of 90 F-35 fighter jets hanging in the balance and left the country combat-challenged to lead any mission--especially one against an enemy like the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
n fact, Renzi didn't specify exactly who would wield that military might, and, two days later, when no one volunteered to lead the charge, he backtracked. "It's not the time for a military intervention," Renzi told an Italian television station Monday night and said the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
had to lead the way. "Our proposal is to wait for the UN Security Council. The strength of the UN is decidedly superior to that of the radical militias."

Whether the time is right or not, there is no question that there is a palpable tension in Italia over the ISIS threat--Libya is just 109 miles away from the island of Lampedusa and 300 miles from Sicily--made worse by a 64 percent increase in illegal migrant arrivals by sea since last year. In all of 2014, more than 170,000 people arrived from Libya and Turkey, the highest number ever recorded. Last weekend, as the embassy staff made their way to Italia on a mercantile ship, 2,164 migrants left the same Libyan shores en route to Sicily. The week before, more than 300 people were lost in the same seas as their rickety fishing boats capsized before rescuers could save them.

2) < img src ="http://www.marxist.com/images/stories/nigeria/boko_haram_map.jpg" width = "400" / >

Remove the space after the < and the space just before the > and you mage will show after copying the above line of HTML code into your comment. Must be the url to an online image. It will look like this below.

img src width are the three key words to an HTML image tag. src width you supply corresponding values to. The < and /> are the beginning and ending image tag symbols.

Option 2. Clicking the first from right symbol at the bottom of the Rantburg comment box brings up field where you just enter an image URL address http://www.marxist.com/images/stories/nigeria/boko_haram_map.jpg and Rantburg creates the image tag for you behind the scenes within your comment. #1  "We have bodies. Come and examine them," he said. "It is clear they are missing certain parts." He also said a dozen doctors have been "executed" in Mosul for refusing to participate in organ harvesting.

Well, that explains the reports of executing doctors. Is there a market for kidneys from an unknown source? What if the organ is loaded with HIV?

#3  If it's a Jewish or Christian organ - do they 'convert it' to Islam first?

(there was something about that during the islamic-soap spoof 'the sands of times'...)

Iraq Now Mostly Defended by Iran-Backed Militias
In Iraq, Shiite militias dominated by Iran now outnumber the formal army by at least 2:1.
Well, this has certainly worked out well.

Israel eases restrictions in Gaza
[Ynet] COGAT raises quota of entry permits for Gazoo merchants to Israel, approves marketing of more industrial and agricultural goods from Gazoo Strip in West Bank.

The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) decided to raise the quota of entry permits for Gazoo merchants to the West Bank and to Israel from 3,000 to 5,000 a month, while the number of daily exit permits from the Strip to the West Bank and to Israel has been doubled from 400 to 800 a day.

The COGAT also approved the marketing of more industrial and agricultural goods from the Gazoo Strip in the West Bank, such as textile, furniture, fruit, vegetables and fish. At the moment, however, Gazoo farmers and merchants are not allowed to market their goods in the Israeli market, even though the issue has been examined in the past.

In addition, Israel authorized the entrance of 45 tractors to the Gazoo Strip for farming.

The new easing of measures join others made at the end of 2014, including increasing the number of entry permits into Gazoo for the purpose of the reconstruction of the Strip. Many international organizations took advantage of the increased number of entry permits to enter the Strip and try to speed up the rebuilding effort.

The late 2014 decision also included weekly marketing of agricultural produce from the Gazoo Strip to the West Bank. So far, 2,600 tons of agricultural produce from the Strip have reached the West Bank.

COGAT also eased the process of acquiring permits to leave from Gazoo abroad, mostly for the purposes of higher education, as well as the passage of medical teams from the Strip to the West Bank for continuing education program.

Additionally, Paleostinians from Gazoo aged 60 and over will be allowed to visit their relatives in the West Bank, and attend prayers at the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Paleostinian families of prisoners held in Israeli jails have also begun to make periodic visits to the prison facilities, following the report's approval.

Diplomats: Syria willing to suspend Aleppo strikes 6 weeks
[Ynet] The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
envoy to Syria says he has received a commitment from the Syrian government to suspend Arclight airstrikes on the city of Aleppo for six weeks to allow a proposed UN plan to "freeze" hostilities there to be tested, UN diplomats say.

Staffan de Mistura was briefing the Security Council in closed session on Tuesday. Diplomats say there is no indication of when the government's six-week suspension of Arclight airstrikes on Syria's largest city might begin. De Mistura says he will return to Syria to assess whether the government's commitment is possible.

Rouhani: Iran's progress in science needs no one's go-ahead
[Iran Press TV] Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the Islamic Republic will not need permission from any power in the world to make scientific and technological progress.

Everyone must know that the Islamic Republic of Iran will never seek anyone’s approval for making progress in science and technology, President Rouhani said Tuesday in a ceremony marking Iran’s National Space Technology Day.

In his speech, the Iranian president also touched upon Iran’s ongoing talks with the world powers on its nuclear energy program, saying that interacting with the world does not mean that Tehran will give up its scientific endeavors.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China - plus Germany, known as the P5+1 group, are currently engaged in negotiations to finalize a deal on Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Rouhani said no one should think that negotiation with the world means that Iran will quit making progress in a certain branch of science.

ISIS: Overrun Europe With Immigrants And 'Turn It Into Hell'
An ISIS report, recovered by Libyan media in January, reveals that the Islamic State would be aiming at Libya '€œto get to Europe,' overrunning it with migrants to 'turn it into hell.' According to the report, ISIS considers 'illegal immigration'€ to be a privileged channel of access to the Old Continent.
Well, they seem to have a "stratergy."
