Georgia K-9 Sniffs Out Four Suspects in Under 15 Minutes
[Breitbart] It did not take long for an extremely smart and driven K-9 to locate four suspects recently in Banks County, Georgia.

When Banks County K-9 Becka and her partner, Corp. Josh Pressley, responded to the scene where five suspects fled on foot after a stolen vehicle chase, they knew time was of the essence, WSB-TV reported Sunday.

An image shows the K-9 and her partner:

The group of suspects apparently ran into a field toward the interstate and vanished because the area was overgrown. Meanwhile, Pressley used four scent kits to retrieve scent articles from the car involved in the case.

"The duo began trailing through an open field and found a red shoe lost by one of the suspects. The first suspect was found lying on the ground wearing one red shoe," the next two were located in the field and another nearby. The last suspect was arrested near the interstate.

The operation took a mere fifteen minutes to complete from the moment they were deployed, per officials.

Divers have found wreckage, 5 remains from Osprey aircraft that crashed off Japan, US Air Force says
[AP] TOKYO (AP) — U.S. and Japanese divers have discovered wreckage and the remains of five crew members from a U.S. Air Force Osprey aircraft that crashed last week off southwestern Japan, the Air Force announced Monday.

The CV-22 Osprey carrying eight American personnel crashed last Wednesday off Yakushima island during a training mission. The body of one victim was recovered and identified earlier.

The Air Force Special Operations Command said two of the five newly located remains have been recovered but their identities have yet to be determined. The joint U.S.-Japanese search operation is still working to recover the remains of three other crew members from the wreckage, it said.

The search is continuing for the two people who are still missing, it said.

UK weather: New map shows 251 miles of snow and rain covering entire length of England
[Mirror] A new satellite map from the Met Office shows the possibility of a 251-mile snowstorm covering the whole length of England, sparking travel chaos and widespread disruption around the country.

Weather maps show that snow could cover a large span of the UK today, starting in Newcastle and ending in Worcester. Forecasters warned that some parts of the country could experience 2cm of snow falling every hour, while others are set to be hit by rain.

It comes as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for snow and ice covering eastern Scotland this evening and through Monday morning. It is in force from 5pm on Sunday until midday tomorrow.

California homeowner shoots armed burglars, killing one: police
[FoxNews] A Los Angeles homeowner opened fire on three suspects during an attempted home invasion early Saturday, killing one of them, police said.

Police responded to a call around 5 a.m. Saturday concerning shots fired inside a home in the 11400 block of Swinton Avenue, the Granada Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Upon arrival, officers met with the homeowner who said he was inside the residence when three unknown men broke into his home. FOX 11 reported that a grandmother and child were inside the home at the time.

The homeowner told police that the men were wearing dark clothing, hoodies, and masks. The homeowner said he retrieved a handgun in fear for his life and fired multiple rounds at the suspects, striking one of them, police said.

The homeowner chased the remaining suspects out of the house. The suspects had arrived in a black BMW sedan but fled the scene without their vehicle, police said.

Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on the scene and pronounced the suspect who’d been shot deceased at the scene. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office determined that the deceased suspect had been shot twice and was in possession of the homeowner’s property.

Detectives from the Operations Valley Bureau Homicide arrived and conducted a preliminary investigation. The homeowner was taken in for questioning at the Devonshire Community Police Station but later released.

No arrests have been made as of Sunday evening. Fox News Digital has reached out to the LAPD for updates.

Guinea-Bissau president calls deadly violence 'attempted coup'
[AFRICANEWS] Guinea-Bissau's President Umaro Sissoco Embalo on Saturday said this week's deadly violence involving members of the National Guard was an "attempted coup" as the army ordered them back to barracks.

The unrest between members of the National Guard and special forces of the presidential guard on Thursday night in the capital Bissau left at least two people dead.

Embalo, who was in Dubai attending the COP28 climate conference, arrived in Bissau on Saturday and said an "attempted coup d'etat" had prevented him from returning.

"I must tell you this act will have serious consequences," he added.

Embalo said the coup attempt was prepared before celebrations on November 16 commemorating the anniversary of the armed forces.

Since gaining independence from Portugal in 1974, the small West African nation has seen a series of coups and coup attempts.

Embalo, who was elected to a five-year term in December 2019, survived a failed overthrow in February 2022.

A military official, speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the situation, said six soldiers were maimed in the fighting and evacuated to neighbouring Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
Calm had returned by noon on Friday to the small nation with a history of instability, following the announcement that the army had captured Colonel Victor Tchongo, commander of the National Guard.

On Saturday the security presence in Bissau was reduced, but soldiers were still visible around certain strategic buildings such as the presidential palace, the judicial police headquarters and some ministries.

Some National Guard officers and soldiers fled into the interior of the country, the army said in a statement Saturday, without specifying numbers.

"The General Staff of the armed forces hereby informs them that they must return to their place of assignment," the statement continued.

South Africa: Seven Men Burned to Death in Vigilante ‘Mob' Attack
[Breitbart] Extra police patrolled one of South Africa’s most violent mostly peaceful townships Sunday after a "mob" tied-up and burned to death seven men accused of a crime wave, police and residents said.

South Africa is afflicted by a steadily increasing murder rate, but community leaders say Diepsloot, a town of more than 350,000 people north of Johannesburg with high rates of killings and rape, has been abandoned by authorities.

Police said they had started a murder investigation after the charred bodies of the seven young men were found.

An alert over two "burned bodies" was raised late Friday night, police front man Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said in a statement to AFP.

Another five bodies were discovered in the early hours of Saturday in a nearby district of Diepsloot, he added.

"Preliminary investigation suggests that in both incidents, the victims were assaulted and burned by the mob," Masondo said.

The bodies of the five men, all aged about 20, were found on a pile of bricks on wasteland in the town.

"They were all chased, caught and tied before being killed, yes it was a ’necklace’," said one resident, referring to the use of tyres or rope put over the upper body of victims before they are set alight.

"There are more police today and we hope they will stay because we need them," the resident added, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
because of tensions in the township. "There have been a lot of robberies and people are angry."

Masondo said no motive for the killings had been confirmed but commented that police "strongly condemn acts of vigilantism and the community taking the law into their own hands, as that constitutes a serious criminal offense."

Protests were held over charges made against three community leaders who led demonstrations in the town in June. That followed a series of murders and robberies including the bombing of a petrol station.

South Africa, with a population of about 60 million, averaged 68 murders a day in the second quarter of 2023, an increase of nearly 20 percent on the same period in 2019.

Caribbean-Latin America
Essequibo: Venezuelans vote to claim Guyana-controlled oil region
[BBC] Venezuelans have voted overwhelmingly in favour of claiming a disputed oil-rich territory long controlled by neighbouring Guyana.

More than 95% approved establishing a new state in Essequibo, officials say.

Caracas says the region has been part of Venezuela since independence from Spain 200 years ago, but Guyana says it was awarded to what was then British Guiana in the late 19th Century.

The dispute flared up again in 2015 after a major offshore oil discovery.

President Nicolás Maduro hailed the referendum result as an "overwhelming victory for 'Yes' throughout Venezuela".

Essequibo, an area of 159,500 sq km (61,600 sq miles), makes up two thirds of the land controlled by Guyana and is home to around a sixth of its population.

The status of the region has long been a source of tension between the two neighbours.

An 1899 ruling by an international arbitral tribunal awarded the territory to Britain, which at the time was the colonial power in Guyana, but in recent decades. successive Venezuelan governments have argued the ruling was unfair.

In 1966, the year Guyana gained independence, Britain and Venezuela agreed that a commission made up of representatives from Guyana and Venezuela would be set up to revisit the dispute, but six decades later no resolution has been reached.

The referendum follows the discovery in 2015 of oil in the waters off Essequibo's coast by US oil giant ExxonMobil.

In 2018, hoping to establish its claim on the territory, Guyana filed a case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that will establish whether the decision of the 1899 tribunal should stand. The ICJ is yet to deliver a ruling.

Venezuela has not accepted that the ICJ has jurisdiction over this issue, but has so far continued to attend the court's hearings.

Tensions increased further in September this year, when Guyana held an auction at which oil companies bid for exploration licences in Essequibo waters.

Former US ambassador arrested, accused of secretly serving as agent to Cuba: report
[FoxNews] Former US ambassador arrested in Florida, accused of serving as an agent of Cuba, AP source says.

A former American diplomat who served as a U.S. ambassador to Bolivia has been arrested and accused of secretly serving as an agent of Cuba’s government, according to The Associated Press.

Officials say Manuel Rocha, 73, was arrested in Miami on Friday on a criminal complaint.

According to sources, more details about the case are expected to be made public at a court appearance Monday.

One of the two people who came forward with the complaint said the Justice Department case accuses Rocha of working to promote the Cuban government’s interests.

Federal law requires people doing the political bidding of a foreign government or entity inside the U.S. to register with the Justice Department, which in recent years has stepped up its criminal enforcement of illicit foreign lobbying.

According to records, Rocha’s 25-year diplomatic career was spent under both Democratic and Republican administrations, with the majority of it being in Latin America during the Cold War.

Rocha also served in Italy, Honduras, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, and worked as a Latin America expert for the National Security Council.

Rocha’s wife, Karla Wittkop Rocha, declined to comment when contacted by the AP. "I don’t need to talk to you," she said before hanging up.

The Justice Department also declined to comment.

Bankruptcy 'opportunity' after student loan crisis
Tear-jerking illustrative stories were left at the link. We’ll see if this latest effort of the Biden administration actually passes muster — the last one did not, after all.
[BBC] Drowning in debt, more and more Americans are taking advantage of a Biden-era change that has made it easier to have student loans forgiven - if they're willing to apply for bankruptcy.

Elizabeth Hadzic, a divorced mum-of-three, has ideas about what she would do if she weren't facing a mountain of student debt: open her own therapy practice, return to her native Canada, work remotely and spend a month with her grandchild.

A change to the US bankruptcy process could make it all possible.

Last year, the US said it would make it easier for people to free themselves of student loans in bankruptcy, a prospect long considered hopeless.

It is a move with potentially vast implications in a country where more than 43 million people carry student debt, generating a total debt load of more than $1.7tn (£1.34tn), and borrowers often face heavy monthly bills decades after they have finished their education.

For decades, student loans in the US have faced a higher bar for forgiveness than other debts, like credit-cards, with borrowers forced to prove "undue hardship" if forced to repay - a term that has led to contentious court battles.

The rules were created to prevent borrowers from taking on big loans with no intention of repaying - and limit the potentially huge cost to the federal government, which is the largest provider of student loans in the US.

But critics say it has led to a system that is unduly harsh, generating horror stories of the government fighting bankrupt single mothers and cancer patients for thousands of dollars in monthly debts they are unable to pay.

Unlike the UK and other parts of the world, monthly student loan payments often bear no relation to a borrower's income; nor do they come with an expiration date.

President Joe Biden, whose most ambitious debt forgiveness plan was blocked by the courts this year, backed changes to the bankruptcy system during his 2020 presidential campaign.

Guidance from the Department of Justice announced last year instructed officials to avoid litigation and agree to discharge the loans if a borrower faces higher expenses than income; is unlikely to be able to pay the loan in the future; and has made an effort to pay.

An estimated 250,000 people with student loans file for bankruptcy in the US each year, and under the new guidelines, about 100,000 could be eligible for some student debt relief, according to estimates by Jason Iuliano, a law professor at the University of Utah.

But so far, only a small number - about 630 - have actually petitioned to discharge their student loans as part of their personal bankruptcy.

The Department of Justice would not say how many of those claims had been resolved, but said some relief had been granted in 99% of those that had. Advocates said that number stood at just a few dozen as of July.

hose who have pursued relief via bankruptcy typically face months of wait. Aaron Ament, president of the National Student Legal Defense Network, warned those delays could worsen if the idea gains traction.

Petitions in the first 10 months since the change were already about 30% more than the average pre-pandemic year.

Those numbers are expected to accelerate, as borrowers have to resume student loan payments after a three-year pandemic-related pause ended in October.

"It's getting real now in terms of coming up with the money to pay the loans out of their existing budget," said Latife Neu, a student loan and bankruptcy lawyer in Washington state, who said she had seen a steady uptick in inquiries.

Avian flu confirmed in California, 250,000 birds euthanized amid spread concerns
[FoxNews] Animal disease experts confirmed that 250,000 birds were euthanized this week after testing positive for the avian flu at two farms in the Bay Area.

According to health officials, the decision came as concerns were raised over the spread of the virus when two farms in Sonoma County reported positive avian flu tests among their birds.

The positive cases were confirmed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

The new cases of avian flu come just weeks after California state wildlife agencies announced that a new vaccine, while still in the early stages of testing, has helped protect them from bird flu so far. The vaccine has yet to receive a formal seal of approval.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this strain is considered to be a low risk to human health, but is highly contagious and often fatal disease in birds.

Report: DeSantis Super PAC Interim CEO Ousted After 9 Days
Inside baseball as the sausage is being made.
[Breitbart] Kristin Davison was reportedly fired on Friday as the interim CEO for the pro-DeSantis Super PAC Never Back Down, just over a week after she filled the role, signaling continued dysfunction within the organization.

Politico’s Alex Isenstadt first reported that Davison was fired Friday, nine days after assuming the position, citing two sources familiar with the move. A vague description of “management and personnel issues” from one of the sources was noted in the article as the reasons for her termination.

An internal email reviewed by the outlet revealed that Scott Wagner would be replacing Davison as the third CEO in the course of several weeks. Davison did not respond to Politico’s comment request, while Never Back Down provided the outlet with Wagner’s contact.

Davison had replaced the former CEO, Chris Jankowski, who exited the campaign in November.

Wagner will be filling two roles at once, according to Politico. He will also serve as the campaign’s board chairman, a position formerly held by former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt (R), who resigned November 26.

In a letter to the board reviewed by the New York Times, Laxalt noted he needed to return to his law practice and family after more than two years working on campaigns.

“After nearly 26 straight months of being in a full-scale campaign, I need to return my time and attention to my family and law practice,” he wrote.

Notably, before he joined Never Back Down in April, Laxalt ran a highly competitive campaign as a U.S. Senate candidate in Nevada in the 2022 general election, where he nearly unseated incumbent Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV). He drew 48.04 percent of the vote to her 48.81 percent.

Jankowski’s exit came four days earlier, on November 22, as Isenstadt wrote.

In a statement, Jankowski cited differences that go “well beyond a difference of strategic opinion,” Breitbart News’s Hanna Bleau Knudson noted.

Jankowski said:

Never Back Down’s main goal and sole focus has been to elect Governor Ron DeSantis as President. Given the current environment it has become untenable for me to deliver on the shared goal and that goes well beyond a difference of strategic opinion. For the future of our country I support and pray Ron DeSantis is our 47th president.

The shakeups come as rumors of conflict between the DeSantis campaign and the Never Back Down PAC — which are not legally allowed to coordinate under federal election law — have swirled. Infighting has also reportedly been prevalent within the Never Back Down PAC itself.

According to a source cited by NBC News, Wagner even had a heated moment in November with top Never Back Down strategist Jeff Roe during a meeting about former Gov. Nikki Haley’s (R-SC) rise in the polls.

This all comes with the Iowa Caucuses less than a month and a half away and as major Republican donors are starting to put money behind candidates they think are best poised to take on Trump.

On Monday, it was revealed American for Prosperity Action, the political arm of Americans for Prosperity which is linked to the Republican establishment mega-donor Charles Koch, endorsed Haley for president.

ABC News Washington Chief Correspondent Jonathan Karl noted the group intends to dump tens of millions in the primary, a welcome sign for Haley, who averages 14.3 percentage points in Real Clear Politics’ (RCP) Iowa polling average. Notably, the latest numbers out of Iowa on the website were an average from November 16.

DeSantis held a slim lead over Haley in the RCP poll, with a 17.3 percent average in Iowa as of November 16. After Haley scored the AFP Action endorsement, DeSantis campaign spokesman Andrew Romeo put out a sarcastic statement suggesting former President Donald Trump, the leading candidate by a very wide margin, was the true beneficiary of the move.
