Afghanistan
UN report highlights surge in Afghanistan’s Methamphetamine trade
[KhaamaPress] According to a United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
report released on Sunday, methamphetamine trafficking in and around Afghanistan has significantly increased in recent years despite the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s claims to curb heroin trafficking.

"The surge in methamphetamine trafficking in Afghanistan and the region suggests a significant shift in the illicit drug market and demands our immediate attention," Ghada Waly, the executive director of the UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC), said.

Despite the Taliba’s ban on poppy cultivation and narcotics production in April of the previous year, the UNODC reported that methamphetamine trafficking has notably intensified since the ban, highlighting an ongoing challenge.

Methamphetamine seizures in Afghanistan and neighbouring regions increased 12 times between 2016 and 2021. Furthermore, from 2019 to 2022, countries like Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
and Pakistain observed a notable uptick in methamphetamine seizures, hinting at a regional issue.

Astonishingly, methamphetamine suspected to have originated in Afghanistan has been seized in far-flung places like La Belle France and Australia, underscoring the global reach of this illicit trade.

According to UNODC, suspicious methamphetamine production in Afghanistan primarily centres around a plant known as "ephedra," which has experienced rapid growth and contains ephedrine used in drug manufacturing.

Ephedra is a self-growing plant readily available in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime emphasizes that common cold medicines and industrial chemicals are more efficient and cost-effective for producing methamphetamine, making them a more significant threat.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
earlier this year, the Taliban leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, issued a decree prohibiting the cultivation, production, use, and trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
Shafaq News adds:
Annual meth seizure totals from inside the country rose from less than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) in 2019 to nearly 2,700 kilograms (6,000 pounds) in 2021, suggesting increased production, the report said. But it couldn’t give a value for the country’s meth supply, the quantities being produced, nor its domestic usage, because it doesn’t have the data.

Angela Me, the chief of the UNODC’s Research and Trend Analysis Branch, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that making meth, especially in Afghanistan, had several advantages over heroin or cocaine production.

"You don’t need to wait for something to grow," said Me. "You don’t need land. You just need the cooks and the know-how. Meth labs are mobile, they’re hidden. Afghanistan also has the ephedra plant, which is not found in the biggest meth-producing countries: Myanmar and Mexico. It’s legal in Afghanistan and it grows everywhere. But you need a lot of it."

Me said it was too early to assess what impact the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
’s drug crackdown has had on meth supplies.

A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, Abdul Mateen Qani, told the AP that the Taliban-run government has prohibited the cultivation, production, sale and use of all intoxicants and narcotics in Afghanistan.

He said authorities have destroyed 644 factories and around 12,000 acres of land where prohibited narcotics were cultivated, processed or produced. There have been more than 5,000 raids in which 6,000 people have been arrested.

"We cannot claim 100% that it is finished because people can still do these activities in secret. It is not possible to bring it to zero in such a short time," said Qani. "But we have a four-year strategic plan that narcotics in general and meth in particular will be finished."

A U.N. report published in November said that opium cultivation since the Taliban takeover increased by 32% over the previous year, and that opium prices rose following authorities’ announcement of a cultivation ban in April 2022. Farmers’ income from opium sales tripled from $425 million in 2021 to $1.4 billion in 2022.

The 2022 report also said that the illicit drug market thrived as Afghanistan’s economy sharply contracted, making people open to illegal cultivation and trafficking for their survival.

Afghans are dealing with drought, severe economic hardship and the continued consequences of decades of war and natural disasters.

The downturn, along with the halt of international financing that propped up the economy of the former Western-backed government, is driving people into poverty, hunger, and addiction.

An Afghan health official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said around 20,000 people are in hospitals for drug addiction, mostly to crystal meth. Of these patients, 350 are women. He said children are also being treated, but did not give the number nor their ages.

Israel eyes normalization of relations with Somalia
Israel dreaming big, despite opposition to their existence in certain quarters. Let’s go, Brandon!
[Garowe] Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen plans to normalize relations with Somalia but faces opposition from the Israeli National Security Council, Hebrew media reported on Friday.

According to The Times of Israel, Head of the National Security Council Tzachi Hanegbi opposes ties with Somalia, pointing out that Israel does not have any interest in ties with one of the most economically deprived countries in the world.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
Cohen wishes to normalize relations with Somalia in order to obtain its vote at the international forums where it has been voting against Israel.

The Israeli newspaper pointed out the chronic tension between the National Security Council and the Foreign Ministry dating back to 2014 when power was taken from the ministry to the council.

The newspaper reported that tension escalated after revealing news about the secret meeting between Cohen and Libyan counterpart Najla al-Mangoush two weeks ago.

The report cited that Cohen had likely met with the close aides of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Cohen has been trying to establish relations with Somalia, which has never had relations with Israel and does not allow Israelis on its soil.

It is worth noting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the Somali president in Nairobi in 2016, but since then, only indirect talks have occurred between low-profile diplomats from the two sides.

Al-Burhan criticizes AU's role in Sudanese affairs
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Sudan
......
’s Head of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, voiced strong opposition to the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
’s interference in Sudanese affairs and its attempts to impose its vision for peace on Saturday. Also, he called on the organization to correct the positions of its staff members.

The military-led government accuses the African Union of double standards after suspending Sudan’s membership following the October 25, 2021, coup. Additionally, the Sudanese foreign ministry criticized the reception of a representative of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).

An aide to the AUC chairperson on Thursday triggered an additional crisis by using tough terms against the de facto government. The move increased tensions between Sudan and the regional organization, which wants to play a role in the resolution of the Sudanese crisis.

In a speech delivered in Ed Damazin, the capital of the Blue Nile region, al-Burhan sharply criticized the African Union and any potential role it might play in achieving peace. He emphasized that Sudan does not reject peace but does not seek a peace agreement that returns the situation to what it was before the outbreak of the war in Sudan between its military and the paramilitary forces.

He stated that his country could end the conflict without the African Union’s assistance if it continued along the same lines, demanding that it correct its stance and that of its members, referring to a statement by a former Mauritanian diplomat against the foreign ministry.

"The African Union is not allowed to interfere in our internal affairs. We do not reject peace, and our view is that it (peace) will come after getting rid of anyone who tries to form another army, attack others, and seek control of the state through illegitimate means."

"If this is your approach, then we can end the conflict without your help. And, If IGAD (the Intergovernmental Authority on Development) deviates from its path, we Sudanese can solve our problems without the need for anyone."

The Sudanese government has urged the African Union to lift the sanctions imposed following the October 25, 2021, coup that ousted the civilian government. On another hand, Sudan has been calling on IGAD to replace Kenya’s chairmanship of the quartet group to resolve the Sudanese conflict.

Minnawi warns against plans to attack Darfur joint force
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Minni Minawi, the governor of Darfur, has condemned what he perceives as plans by unidentified parties to attack the joint force of gangs in Darfur. He said that this alleged plot aims at disrupting the protection of humanitarian aid convoys in the region.

In posts shared on social media, supporters of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have accused the joint forces of transporting weapons and ammunition to Sudan
......
ese army units in Darfur states. These alleged transfers are purportedly conducted under the guise of commercial and humanitarian convoys that the joint forces escort.

Minnawi, who also leads the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), expressed his concerns on Facebook, stating, "We possess information, audio threats, and direct communications from individuals intent on attacking and assaulting the convoy traveling from Kosti to Darfur."

"If such an incident were to occur, this state of neutrality may transform into a necessity-imposed state, and we hope it does not come to that," he added.

Minnawi emphasized the vital role played by the Darfur escort force, which also benefits civilians from North and West Kordofan, as well as the White Nile to some extent. Moreover, it serves as the only lifeline for the approximately 15 million people residing in the Darfur region.

On April 27, four gangs that had signed the Juba Peace Agreement jointly announced the establishment of a force responsible for maintaining security in the post-conflict period. This force’s duties include protecting markets and escorting humanitarian and commercial convoys.

Niger: 'French forces will redeploy only at Bazoum's requests', President Macron
[AFRICANEWS] Niger's military regime accused La Belle France of deploying forces in several West African countries with a view to military intervention.

Relations with La Belle France, Niger's former colonial power, degraded swiftly after Gay Paree stood by ousted President Mohammed Bazoum following the July coup.

"It should be brought to the attention of the public opinion, national and international, that despite the announcement of this withdrawal plan, La Belle France continues to deploy its forces in several ECOWAS (ed, Economic Community of West African States) countries as part of preparations for an aggression against Niger, which it is planning in collaboration with this community organization," accused Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane, Niger's regime front man.

The Sahel state is also embroiled in a stand-off with the West African bloc ECOWAS, which has threatened to intervene militarily if diplomatic pressure to return Bazoum to office fails.

On August 3, Niger's coup leaders renounced several military cooperation agreements with La Belle France, which has about 1,500 soldiers stationed in the country as part of a wider fight against jihadism.

On Sunday, President Macron reiterated La Belle France's stance, demanding the release of President Bazoum.

He emphasized that the redeployment of troops would only occur upon request from the deposed head of state.

"Since last July, a coup d'état has been holding a democratically elected president hostage. La Belle France's position is simple: we condemn it, we call for the release of President Bazoum and the restoration of constitutional order, and we do not recognize the legitimacy of the putschists' declarations, since President Bazoum has not relinquished power. And so, if we redeploy anything, I would only do so at President Bazoum's request and in coordination with him, not with officials who today are taking a president hostage. On this subject, from day one, La Belle France has been coordinating with all the presidents of the region and the heads of state and government, and we fully support the positions of Ecowas," clarified French President Emmanuel Macron.

On Tuesday, a Gay Paree defence ministry source told French media LeMonde, the French army was in talks with the military regime over withdrawing elements of its presence in Niger.

In Niger, rebels accuse France of preparing for intervention
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] The military that seized power in Niger accused France of deploying armed forces in the countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for subsequent intervention in the country. The rebels made a corresponding statement on September 9 on national television, reports Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The military in Niger accused France of preparing forces for intervention
“France continues to deploy its forces in several ECOWAS countries in preparation for aggression against Niger, which it is considering in cooperation with this organization,” the agency quotes rebel leader Amadou Abdraman as saying.

The rebels pointed out that Paris is deploying troops in Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Benin and other ECOWAS countries.

Earlier, IA Regnum reported that the new authorities of Niger banned the visit of the French Ambassador to the country Sylvain Itte to everyone except employees of the French diplomatic mission. For this reason, in Niamey, cars with representatives of the EU and Spain were not able to travel to the French Embassy for a conversation with the ambassador.

On the night of July 26, a coup d'état took place in Niger. A group of military men came to power in the country and removed the President of the Republic, Mohamed Bazoum, from government.

On August 25, the new Niger authorities demanded that Sylvain Itte leave the country within 48 hours. They explained their decision by the actions of the French authorities, contrary to the interests of the African republic.

The rebel-appointed Prime Minister of Niger, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zein, announced on September 5 that negotiations would be held for the speedy withdrawal of French forces from the country.

Iraq
Iraq appoints new commander to elite counter-terrorism unit
[Shafaq News] Major General Hadi Sarheed al-Kinani has been appointed as the head of the Second Special Operations Command of the Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS), replacing Major General Haider al-Obaidi, a security source revealed on Sunday.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that the the scope of al-Kinani's new jurisdiction extends over the northern districts of Saladin, Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
and Nineveh.

This comes as part of a broader strategy to consolidate forces and expertise in the pivotal northern region of the nation, seen as a linchpin in maintaining national security.

Recognized as a vanguard force within the Iraqi army, the CTS has carved out a reputation for being an elite unit, trained and equipped by US forces. The agency played a pivotal role in the nation’s offensive against ISIS between 2014 and 2017, spearheading efforts to quell the terrorist outfit's reign of terror during the three-year operation.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel includes Gaza Americans in US visa-waiver pilot as deadline nears
[Jpost] Israel eased travel for Palestinian Americans from the Gaza Strip on Monday as part of final preparations for a deal enabling Israelis to enter the United States without visas, an Israeli official said.

As a condition for its accession to the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP), Israel has since July 20 loosened access through its borders, and in and out of the West Bank, for Palestinian Americans in what the allies deem a pilot period.

The deadline for Israel to show compliance with the US conditions is September 30. If successful, it expects to be incorporated in the VWP by November - a respite for relations strained by disputes over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's judicial reforms and policies on the Palestinians.

Gaza, whose governing Islamist Hamas is designated a terrorist group by Israel and the United States, was previously excluded from the pilot. The enclave is under an Israeli and Egyptian blockade and both maintain restrictions along their borders with it.

The exclusion stirred protests by Palestinian Americans and calls from Washington for a change in practice.

US NATIONALS IN GAZA
An Israeli official said that, as of Monday, Palestinian Americans living in Gaza and who are not deemed security threats will be able to enter Israel on a "B2" tourist visa, opening up the possibility of them taking flights out of its airports.

Israel previously said it intended to include Palestinian Americans living in Gaza - whose number it puts at between 100 and 130 - on Sept 15 but would try to bring the date forward.

The US Embassy in Jerusalem had no immediate comment.

As part of the pilot, Israel says it has already been letting Palestinian Americans leave Gaza by special buses to Jordan, from which they could travel elsewhere.

In another new policy, Israel says it is allowing Palestinian Americans from abroad who have first-degree relatives in Gaza to make once-yearly visits of up to 90 days.

Palestinian and US officials have assessed that the number of dual US nationals in Gaza may be several hundred. When asked about the apparent discrepancy in the figures, an Israeli official said most of those are not full-time Gaza residents.

Israeli PM announces US visit, no Biden meeting planned
[AlAhram] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to the United States this month, his office said Sunday, but is not expected to meet with President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
amid months of tensions.

The planned visit would be Netanyahu's first trip to Israel's longtime ally the United States since reelection late last year.

The Israeli premier is due to land in the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
on September 18 for Silicon Valley meetings, before heading to New York, where he will be attending the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
General Assembly, a statement from his office said.

A front man for Netanyahu said there were no plans for meeting with US officials during the trip, an unusual case for visiting Israeli leaders.

Biden has criticised the judicial overhaul Netanyahu's hard-right government is advancing, which critics describe as a threat to democracy in Israel.

The US president recently hosted Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who holds a largely ceremonial role.

Netanyahu however has yet to be invited to the White House since returning to power in December at the helm of what Biden had described as "one of the most holy warrior" administrations in Israeli history.

In July, the White House said Biden and Netanyahu would "meet in the United States later this year", without providing further details.

Shin Bet: Iran operated account that tweeted depiction of IDF general as Hitler
[IsraelTimes] Agency and fake news watchdog say post is part of Iranian disinformation campaign aimed at sowing social strife in Israel

A social media account that published an image showing an Israeli general photoshopped to look like Hitler was likely operated by Iranians as part of a social disinformation campaign, the Shin Bet security agency said Sunday.

The now-deleted post on X — the social media site formerly known as Twitter — showed the head of the Israeli military’s Central Command, Maj. Gen. Yehuda Fox, with a Hitler-like mustache and an armband with a swastika, in front of a Nazi flag.

"Yehuda Fox is a tyrant dictator who uses dictatorial measures to silence those who publish criticism against him," read the text of the post, which appeared earlier Monday, copying word for word from a post by a settler activist last week.

The Shin Bet in a statement said that "it is highly likely that this is a fictitious profile operated by Iranian elements."

"It should be noted that for some time Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has been advancing a comprehensive network campaign, the aim of which is to divide Israeli society and destabilize it, and it is estimated that the publication of the photo today is part of this campaign," the agency said.

Fake Reporter, an Israeli organization that investigates online fake news, also noted that the account was believed to be part of a foreign disinformation campaign.

Fake Reporter said one of the "main features" of foreign disinformation campaigns is copying content.

"The same thing happened this time. Foreign profiles don’t just tweet things, they latch on to the existing discourse. The fact that a foreign account presented Yehuda Fox as a Nazi only shows that they see attacks against him as an opportunity to deepen polarization in Israel," the organization said.

Iran has in the past been accused of setting up fake online profiles in order to stoke social tensions in Israel.

Earlier Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded an investigation into the post.

"Netanyahu condemns the incitement and gives full support to the IDF commanders," the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Settler activists have held Fox responsible for the recent wave of terror attacks, accusing him of not cracking down on Paleostinians. The criticism has also been echoed by several right-wing politicians in the coalition.

Heads of the IDF’s Central Command have repeatedly come under fire by some settler groups over the years for what they felt was insufficient action against security threats or egregious action against illegal Jewish settlements.

Abbas spokesman claims PA chief was quoting academics when he used antisemitic tropes
No doubt. There is a long tradition of academicians making evil stuff up for political purposes, President Abbas, with his Soviet doctorate in Holocaust denial, being a subject matter expert on the subject. Still, rarely did anyone but the Joooos object before — it’s understandable that the Palestinians would be shocked at objections now..
[IsraelTimes] Nabil Abu Rudeineh condemns ’frenzied campaign’ against PA president, says his actual position is ’full condemnation of the Nazi Holocaust and a rejection of antisemitism’

A front man for Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
said the PA leader’s recent statements using antisemitic tropes were in fact "academic and historical quotations."

Abbas’s contentious comments were made during the Fatah party’s Revolutionary Council on August 26 but were only recently published in an English translation by the Middle East Media Research Institute, drawing a barrage of condemnations from Israel, the US and Europe.

In a statement published Thursday by the official Paleostinian news agency Wafa, Abbas’s front man Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that "Mahmoud Abbas’s position on this matter is clear and unwavering, which is a full condemnation of the Nazi Holocaust and a rejection of antisemitism."

"We express our strong condemnation and outrage at this frenzied campaign [against President Mahmoud Abbas] for just quoting academic and historical quotations," Abu Rudeineh said, giving no further details.

Wafa said that Rudeineh was referring to work by unnamed Jewish and American academics.

In his speech, Abbas repeated a number of antisemitic canards he has made over the years, including unfounded claims that Ashkenazi Jews descend from the Khazars, a Turkic people who according to a discredited theory converted to Judaism en masse, and that Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler
...late Fuehrer of Germany, founder of the Third Reich, currently communing with his pals Himmler and Heydrich. He is reincarnated every few days as a politician somebody doesn't like...
had Jews slaughtered because of their "social role" as moneylenders, not because of enmity toward Judaism.

"The truth that we should clarify to the world is that European Jews are not Semites," Abbas said, adding that Jews from Arab countries, on the other hand, are considered Semites.

"They say that Hitler killed the Jews because they were Jews and that Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
hated the Jews because they were Jews. Not true. It was clearly explained that [the Europeans] fought [the Jews] because of their social role, and not their religion," Abbas continued, echoing allegations he has made in the past. "Several authors wrote about this. Even Karl Marx said this was not true. He said that the enmity was not directed at Judaism as a religion but to Judaism for its social role."

Abbas’s assertions have drawn widespread condemnation. Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter: "This is the true face of Paleostinian ’leadership.’ Just as Abbas blames the Jews for the Holocaust, he also blames the Jews for all the Middle East’s issues. While he spreads this pure antisemitism he also pays Paleostinian gunnies for murdering Israelis and publicly commends Paleostinian terrorism."

Update at 8:20 a.m. EDT with a snicker:
Palestinian academics sign open letter condemning Abbas’s antisemitic comments

[IsraelTimes] p of Palestinian academics and intellectuals signed an open letter on Sunday to condemn the “morally and politically reprehensible comments” recently made by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas about the Holocaust and the origins of Ashkenazi Jews.

The letter was signed by over a hundred “Palestinian academics, writers, artists, activists, and people of all walks of life,” mostly living in the US and Europe, and was publicized on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, by Dana El-Kurd, an assistant professor of political science at the university of Richmond in Virginia.

The letter condemned Abbas’s distortion of the Holocaust in strong terms: “Rooted in a racial theory widespread in European culture and science at the time, the Nazi genocide of the Jewish people was born of antisemitism, fascism, and racism. We adamantly reject any attempt to diminish, misrepresent, or justify antisemitism, Nazi crimes against humanity, or historical revisionism vis-a-vis the Holocaust.”

The second part of the open letter addressed the publicity fallout of Abbas’s statements on the Palestinian cause. “The Palestinian people are sufficiently burdened by Israeli settler colonialism, dispossession, occupation, and oppression without having to bear the negative effect of such ignorant and profoundly antisemitic narratives perpetuated by those who claim to speak in our name,” the authors wrote.
Ah. The real objection is to the problems saying such things aloud causes the Palestinian diaspora.
The academics also lambasted the Palestinian Authority, of which Abbas has held the presidency since 2005. “We are also burdened by the PA’s increasingly authoritarian and draconian rule, which disproportionately impacts those living under occupation,” they wrote.

“Having held onto power nearly a decade and a half after his presidential mandate expired in 2009, supported by Western and pro-Israel forces seeking to perpetuate Israeli apartheid, Abbas and his political entourage have forfeited any claim to represent the Palestinian people and our struggle for justice, freedom, and equality, a struggle that stands against all forms of systemic racism and oppression,” the letter ended.

Abbas’s popularity has been in steady decline for years, in the face of growing discontent among Palestinians at his autocratic style of ruling; his refusal to hold elections after his defeat to Hamas in 2006; the PA’s corruption and security cooperation with Israel, which many Palestinians consider a form of collaboration, his perceived inaction in the face of settlement expansion; and his weak governance in parts of the West Bank, particularly in the northern Jenin-Nablus area, which have paved the way for Hamas and the Islamic Jihad to encroach in the area.

Israeli cabinet allocates NIS 20 million to encourage migrants to leave country
As the Germans say, “Geh mit Gott, aber geh!”
[IsraelTimes] The cabinet on Sunday approved NIS 20 million ($5 million) to incentivize African migrants colonists and asylum seekers to leave Israel, a week after violent mostly peaceful riots broke out between politically opposed camps of Eritrea

Gaza exports into Israel resume days after attempted explosives smuggling
[IsraelTimes] IDF closed trade route last week in response to attempt to transfer ’high-quality explosives’ hidden in clothing shipment

Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip exports to Israel resumed Sunday, Paleostinian and Israeli officials said, days after exports were suspended following an alleged attempt to smuggle explosives from the coastal enclave.

On Monday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi ordered a halt to commercial deliveries from Gaza to Israel after several kilograms of "high-quality" kaboom were found hidden in a shipment of clothes. The move was approved by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

On Sunday morning, exports were once again allowed through the Kerem Shalom gateway, said Raed Fattouh, head of the Presidential Committee for the Coordination of Goods, which is affiliated with Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

"Several trucks, including one loaded with readymade clothes and others loaded with scrap iron, entered the crossing this morning and headed toward the Israeli side," he told AFP.

According to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), the body that runs civilian affairs in the Paleostinian territories, exports were allowed into Israel on Sunday at 6 a.m. "following the conclusion of a security assessment."

"The defense establishment will not allow terror elements to take advantage of the civilian and humanitarian channel in the Gaza Strip for the needs of military force buildup and acts of terror," the ministry and COGAT said.

The Defense Ministry said that according to initial assessments, the explosives were intended to be used for terror activity in the West Bank.

The Kerem Shalom crossing is the only point of entry for goods between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

Damascus accuses US forces of ‘looting’ Syrian resources
When the usual strong horse looks weak, everyone pounces.
[Rudaw] Damascus on Sunday accused Washington of "looting" Syria’s resources over the past 12 years, claiming that the continued US "aggression" on Syrian soil has cost the country more than 115$ billion in natural resources revenue during that time period.

In a letter to the UN Secretary-General and Security Council president, the Syrian foreign ministry called on the international community to hold the US accountable for the damage inflicted on the country’s oil and gas sector due to its "illegal" military presence northeast and southeast of the country.

"The United States of America and its tools of terrorist organizations and militias continue to violate illusory sovereignty and loot the country’s wealth and strategic resources, with the aim of exacerbating the effects of illegal unilateral coercive measures and depriving Syrians of the capabilities of their homeland and increasing their suffering," Syrian state media (SANA) cited the letter as saying.

The Syrian foreign ministry estimated that the country had lost around 27.5$ billion directly due to the US forces’ "theft and waste" of oil and gas, as well as "vandalism" and Arclight airstrike

s targeting oil and gas facilities.

The letter also blamed US forces for having cost Damascus 87.7$ billion dollars in "indirect losses," implying their presence has contributed to the decrease in oil and gas production.

Damascus demanded an end to the US military presence in Syria, stressing that Washington needs to return the lands and oil and gas fields it has "occupied," to the Syrian government and provide compensations for the damage it has caused.

#1  Of course. Duh! We've been stealing Syria's oil for years now. This isn't common knowledge? After our illegal war, followed by occupation of the oil fields and stealing the oil right out of the ground and shipping it out to be sold.

I thought everyone supported invasions and theft? This is the US government we're talking about. Neoconservatives love invasions and robbery as much as any street thug.

#2  Look how much they howled when Russian occupied the Crimea. How is this different?

#3  The Americans stole our dirt, on the bottom of their shoes.

Show us the oil Americans stole, Otto. Where are the imports? I want some in my gas tank or at least a dollar or two off per gallon. Or are the oil fields (developed by Chevron, btw) used by the SDF to pay their people, Kurds and Arabs? The oil is sold to Turks and even the illegitimate Syrian government.

Leb: 5 nations to nominate army chief, Doha to convince Iran
Finally, someone steps forward. They’re as bad as Belgium when it comes to governments.
[An Nahar] The five-nation committee on Lebanon is inclined to endorse the presidential nomination of Army chief General Joseph Aoun and Qatar will seek to convince Iran of him due to the good relations between the two countries, a media report said on Saturday.

The report comes two days before the arrival in Beirut of French Special Presidential Envoy for Lebanon Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Sources with close ties to the five-nation committee told the Nidaa al-Watan newspaper that all efforts will now be focused on Aoun's nomination and that the five countries will "exert all the needed pressure in this regard."

"This pressure might lead to positive results or it might not should domestic obstacles emerge," the sources added.

Army chief tells Raad he's ready to be president if there's consensus

[An Nahar] The undeclared meeting between Army chief General Joseph Aoun and Hezbollah’s top lawmaker Mohammed Raad tackled the security situations, the Kahale incident and the UNIFIL resolution as well as the presidential file, media reports said.

According to ad-Diyar newspaper, Aoun told Raad that he is not currently engaged in the presidential battle, but is willing to assume the post if there is “national consensus” over his nomination.

Raad for his part reiterated to Aoun that Hezbollah is clinging to Marada Movement chief Suleiman Franjieh’s nomination at the moment, the daily added.

Al-Akhbar newspaper meanwhile quoted Raad as telling Aoun that Hezbollah is “linking the future of the presidency to inter-Lebanese dialogue.”
