Fighting in Khartoum intensifies after generals briefly appear
[AFRICANEWS] Air strikes, street battles and artillery fire shook Sudan's capital Khartoum and the major southern city of El-Obeid on Thursday, witnesses told AFP.

"Artillery fire targeted paramilitary bases of the Rapid Support Forces," said a resident of El-Obeid, 350 kilometres (220 miles) southwest of Khartoum.

Fighting between the RSF and the regular army, led by feuding generals, has killed at least 3,000 people and displaced more than 3.3 million since April 15.

Army jets on Thursday were striking paramilitaries, who were responding with anti-aircraft fire, said another El-Obeid resident, who asked not to be named for security reasons.

In Khartoum's south, witnesses reported three air raids in the early morning.

"The blasts were terrifying," one of them told AFP.

The army on Wednesday accused the RSF of targeting a residential area of the capital in a dronezap that left "14 civilians dead and 15 injured".

Residents told AFP at least 13 non-combatants were killed.

The conflict pits army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan against his former deputy, RSF commander Mohammed Hamdan Daglo.

- 'VICTORY OR MARTYRDOM'
Burhan on Tuesday appeared in rare video footage shortly after an audio recording of Daglo was released.

In the video clip of less than one minute, Burhan, carrying a pistol and an automatic rifle, and donning a T-shirt and cargo pants, is seen in the army headquarters as he greets the army top brass.

The massive complex in central Khartoum has been the site of frequent festivities between the warring sides.

Daglo was last seen in a short video clip the paramilitaries shot in the early days of the conflict that is now in its fourth month.

But he has released several audio recordings since, the latest on Monday evening in which he told Sudanese he was willing to "choose peace" but remained "ready for war".

The combatants loyal to him would fight until "victory or martyrdom", Daglo said.

The RSF chief also mentioned the vast western region of Darfur, which in the early 2000s saw a bloody war and which has been hit by some of the worst violence in the new conflict.

The paramilitaries have labelled the Darfur bloodshed "tribal conflicts", while rights campaigners blame the RSF and allied Arab militias for reported atrocities including rape, looting and the mass killings of ethnic minorities.

The International Criminal Court has opened a new probe into alleged war crimes in Darfur, its chief prosecutor Karim Khan said last week.

He warned against "allowing history to repeat itself" in Darfur, where 300,000 people were killed in a conflict from 2003 that led the ICC to charge former leader Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...
with genocide.

[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Nigerian Air Force fighter aircraft has killed at least 22 holy warriors in an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s operation conducted in Katsina State.

It was gathered that among the holy warriors killed during the operation was a terrorist kingpin, Abdulkareen Lawal, popularly known as Abdulkareen Boss, alleged to be the criminal masterminder of the killing of a Nigerian Police Area Commander in Dutsin Ma on July 5, 2022.

A military source on Thursday reportedly said that the attack that resulted in the killing of the holy warriors was based on intelligence received by troops.

The Punch quoted the source as saying that "Over 22 holy warriors mostly made up of foot soldiers of the dear departed notorious terrorists’ kingpin Abdulkareen Lawal, aka Abdulkareen Boss, were on Monday, July 17, 2023, neutralised by air strikes conducted by the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji at Batsari and Sola Poi II in Batsari and Jibia Local Government Areas of Katsina State.

"The strikes were executed following credible intelligence reports that the holy warriors were responsible for several abductions and violent mostly peaceful attacks on some communities within Kankara LGA of Katsina State."

The spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who confirmed the air strikes noted that the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar had since his assumption of office, directed all air component commanders to synergise with other security agencies to target the terrorists’ hideouts.

Britain
UK sanctions Wagner leaders linked to African killings and torture
[AFRICANEWS] The UK on Thursday imposed sanctions on 13 individuals and companies accused of involvement in abuses by the Russian paramilitary group Wagner in Mali, the Central African Republic, and Sudan.

The charges include "executions and acts of torture in Mali and the Central African Republic, as well as threats to peace and security in Sudan", the Foreign Office said in a statement.
Oh dear.
The people targeted by these measures, which include the freezing of assets in the UK and a ban on visiting the country, include Russians presented as Wagner's managers in Mali, Ivan Maslov, and in the Central African Republic, Vitali Perfilev and Konstantin Pikalov.

The latter is said to be the right-hand man of Wagner chief Evgeny Prigozhin, who has already been sanctioned by London.

"The Wagner group commits atrocities in Ukraine and acts with impunity in countries such as Mali, the Central African Republic, and Sudan", denounced the Secretary of State for Africa, Andrew Mitchell, quoted in the blurb.

"Wherever Wagner operates, it has a catastrophic effect on communities, exacerbates existing conflicts, and damages the reputation of host countries", he added.

London has also sanctioned mining and security companies accused of funding Wagner or participating in its operations.

The future of Wagner, which was fighting in Ukraine and has been documented in several African countries as well as Syria, is in question following the 24-hour rebellion led in Russia in June by its boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Moscow said its future in Africa would depend "on the countries concerned".

London says it "remains gravely concerned about Wagner's destabilising role in the region". In Mali, the Foreign Office cites "the massacre of at least 500 people in Moura in March 2022, including summary executions, rape, and torture".

In the Central African Republic, Wagner is accused of "deliberately targeting civilians", while in Sudan, "he supplied weapons and military equipment", according to the same source.

Death toll in Khyber district suicide attack rises to four
[GEO.TV] The corpse count from the suicide kaboom in the Bara Bazar area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Khyber district rose to four after two more maimed cops gave up the ghost, police said Thursday.

A policeman was martyred and 10 others were maimed after a terrorist went kaboom! when the police intercepted him and his accomplice while entering the tehsil compound — which houses the Bara Police Station, government offices, and a cell of the counter-terrorism department (CTD).

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
more casualties were reported later, pushing the corpse count up.

KP Inspector General Akhtar Hayat confirmed that the attack was led by two murderous Moslems who entered the compound from the main and rear gates. Both of the bad boyz were potted in the attack.

Sharing updates on the matter, police said that a section of the CTD's cell caved in after the earth-shattering kaboom. Rescue and search operation was underway while the bomb disposal squad and CTD teams were present at the scene of the crime.

Meanwhile,
...back at the chili cook-off, Chuck slipped the habañero into the roasted jalapeño...
Rescue 1122 officials said 10 coppers had been shifted to different hospitals for treatment.

Earlier, the Hayatabad Medical Complex administration said that a body and four injured — including three cops — were brought to the medical facility.

Some of the injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Dogra Khyber Agency

as well.

Initially, the police said that smoke was seen rising from the site of the earth-shattering kaboom. They said that heavy firing was also reported after the earth-shattering kaboom.

The KP police suffered another attack last night when two cops were martyred, and two others were maimed in a firing incident in the Regi area of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Police said that unidentified gunnies opened fire on the cops at the entry checkpoint near Regi Model Town Police Station and fled. The injured cops were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital for treatment.

The martyred were identified as Head Constable Wajid and driver Farman.

Iraq
Iraqi protesters set fire to Swedish embassy in Baghdad, 20 arrested, Iraq severs diplomatic relations with Sweden
[Iraq News] Protesters set fire to Sweden’s embassy in the Iraqi capital Baghdad early Thursday, an AFP journalist said, ahead of a planned burning of a Koran in Sweden.

Swedish authorities approved an assembly to be held later Thursday outside the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm, where organisers plan to burn a copy of the Koran as well as an Iraqi flag.

Iraqis have been angered by events in Sweden, and Thursday’s protest in Baghdad was organised by supporters of the turbulent religious leader Moqtada Sadr.

Some protesters raised copies of the Koran into the air, while others held portraits of Mohammed al-Sadr, an important religious holy man and the father of Moqtada Sadr.

"We are mobilised today to denounce the burning of the Koran, which is all about love and faith," protester Hassan Ahmed told AFP. "We demand that the Swedish government and the Iraqi government stop this type of initiative."

"We didn’t wait until morning, we broke in at dawn and set fire to the Swedish embassy," a young demonstrator in Baghdad told AFP on Thursday, before chanting Moqtada’s name.

Sweden’s foreign ministry told AFP its embassy staff in Baghdad were "safe" following the incident.

"The Iraqi authorities are responsible for the protection of diplomatic missions and their staff", the ministry said, adding that attacks on embassies and diplomats "constitute a serious violation of the Vienna Convention".

Several trucks to extinguish the fire had arrived at the embassy, where skirmishes between Iraqi security forces and demonstrators had broken out, an AFP photographer said.

It was not immediately clear whether the embassy was empty at the time of the attack or if staff had been evacuated.

— ’URGENT INVESTIGATION’ —
Iraq’s foreign ministry condemned the embassy torching and called on security forces to identify those responsible.

"The Iraqi government has instructed the relevant security services to conduct an urgent investigation and take all necessary measures to uncover the circumstances of the incident and identify the perpetrators," the ministry said in a statement.

Swedish media reported that Salwan Momika, an Iraqi refugee in Sweden, had organised the event in Stockholm on Thursday.

Salwan burned a few pages of a copy of the Koran in front of Stockholm’s largest mosque on June 28 during Eid al-Adha
...a major Moslem holiday, marked by animal sacrifice and ritual rioting...
, a holiday celebrated by Moslems around the world.

That incident prompted supporters of Moqtada, an influential religious leader and political dissident in Iraq, to storm the Swedish embassy in Baghdad the following day.

Moqtada has repeatedly mobilised thousands of demonstrators in the streets.

Iraq severs diplomatic relations with Sweden

[Iraq News] The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, ordered on Thursday to withdraw the Iraqi charge d’affaires in Stockholm and expel the Swedish ambassador to Iraq, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The Iraqi government issued on Thursday a strongly worded statement threatening to sever diplomatic relations with Sweden if it allowed the Koran burner to repeat his act.

The Iraqi government mentioned in the statement that it informed the Swedish government of its intention to sever diplomatic relations if burning copies of the Holy Koran was repeated.

The decision was taken during an urgent meeting with senior military and security officials, chaired by the Iraqi Prime Minister on Thursday morning to discuss permission granted by the Swedish government to an individual to burn the Holy Book later in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, in addition to setting fire the Swedish embassy in Baghdad.

The meeting condemned the setting of fire to the Swedish embassy by protesters, considered the action a security breach that must be dealt with immediately, and stressed that those responsible for the security of the embassy must be held accountable.

Iraqi protesters set fire to the Swedish embassy in Baghdad early Thursday ahead of a planned burning of a Koran in Sweden, AFP reported.

Swedish authorities approved an assembly to be held later Thursday outside the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm, where organizers plan to burn a copy of the Koran as well as an Iraqi flag, AFP added.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
In Syria, an incident occurred between Russian and American aircraft
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] In the airspace of Syria, the impact of the guidance systems of American F-16 fighters on a Russian aircraft was recorded, the Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria (CPVS) said.
What, again??
“The impact of the guidance systems of the F-16 fighters on the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces, which was making a planned flight along the southern border of the Syrian Arab Republic, was recorded,” said Rear Admiral Oleg Gurinov, deputy head of the Russian TsPVS.

It is noted that on the part of the US-led international anti-terrorist coalition, 12 violations of deconflict protocols related to uncoordinated drone flights with Russia were noted per day.

According to Gurinov, in the al-Tanf region, where international air routes pass, ten violations of Syrian airspace were recorded by four pairs of American F-16 fighters and one pair of US Rafal coalition fighters.

As reported by IA Regnum, on July 16, US authorities claimed that a Russian pilot allegedly created a dangerous situation for the crew members of an American MS-12 aircraft in the sky over Syria. The Russian fighter allegedly flew very close to the MS-12, forcing it through a wake of turbulence.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has repeatedly emphasized that Russian pilots fly in the sky over Syria exclusively in accordance with international flight safety rules.
