Move over Al Gore. John Kerry is getting into the movie business.
Kerry, the Democratic senator from Massachusetts and former presidential nominee, is seeking guidance from the Senate Ethics Committee and the Federal Election Committee about investing in a documentary about soldiers in Iraq.
The movie is to be called "Keeping the Faith."
Kerry, who came to prominence years ago after serving in the Vietnam and criticizing the conflict, was asked to join the project by veterans, said his spokeswoman Whitney Smith.
Senator Kerry was approached by friends in the veterans community to be part of a project that sheds light on an often overlooked topic, namely the brave men and women who have sustained debilitating injuries in Iraq," Smith said.
But Kerry is proceeding cautiously to make sure he doesn't cross any ethical lines, Smith said.
"As this opportunity emerged, his first step was straight to the ethics committee to see if his participation would violate any regulations," Smith said. "The health and well being of our veterans is a top priority for Senator Kerry, but he plans to wait for a response from ethics before taking on any part of this project.

I am a sentinel watching for this type of character sketch against our soldiers. It gives me great pleasure to be able to remind you that the Armed Forces are not made up of homologous political droids. You could say they are a diverse group ethnically and politically as well.
In our present, imperfectly postmodern world, speaking ill of a soldier's political affiliation creates an imbroglio, a complicated and embarassing state of affairs. Talking ill of our men and women in uniform? I don't see how this can lead to any good, especially when the enemies dont stop to ask if they are dems or repubs before shooting at them.
Do we know what the percentage breakdown of Dems VS. Pubs are in the different branches? Many say Republican majority. Many are Moderate. Many are Democrats. A paltry number care during important moments.
I, for one, a female who served in the Army honorably for 5 years, noticed that a lot of my coworkers chose not to vote in elections, and were very moderate. Many I worked with and spoke with every day for years weren't beatifically praising GWB or Obama or any recent president. Some were raging Republicans, some were raging Democrats.
The important thing was we worked together as a team, and served. People serve to protect the American Dream, the dreams our stuff is made of.
If ONLY Washington D.C. could be MORE LIKE the Army, we would have bi-partisanship in politics. Remember, the enemies tend to disregard your political party when they're shooting at you. They look at the flag on your shoulder and then decide who you are based on what they see.
A noticeable penchant of many enlisted soldiers is to stay out of politics, and political debates. They preferred to keep their politics out of the mix, serve, protect our nation, do their jobs honorably, and not let a grievence with a POTUS cloud their days.
Another factor that makes me pause before impugning liberals in the service is the fact that many of them I served with serve with honor, despite harsh dastardly caitiffs in their camp criticising them from behind the protection of the liberal pacifistic shield.
Many liberal soldiers endure dastardly prejudice from their liberal spouses, significant others, families and communities who in the misguided liberal vein think the Armed Forces are baby killers. In that sense, liberal soldier endure less support when they swim against these tides. So again, I dont want to impugn their service records.
As for Kerry, I'm neither going to defend or impugn him. Frankly, I wish he'd retire and go drink a Maitai somewhere.
So give them their political gaffes, but remember politics don't stop the bullets.

Nicely said, GT, though I'd point out that there are liberals of all stripes, just as conservatives. Some are deeply patriotic and decent, and a few, unfortunately, have other ideas.

The part you left off that quote is the subject of the sentence, GirlThursday. Deleting it completely changes the meaning of what badanov said. Try this:

There are a few who spoil it for the many, even in uniform. Among the most despised character is the careerist who has neither honor or integrity. He/she is the one who's goal is self and by extension career promotion. Good soldiers can see through the facade of such a creature in short order. Everyone and everything is expendable for their goal. Unfortunately, most of the command structure is more interested in not rocking the boat and as long as things meet the usual inspection and operational standards they're happy. It's the uniform version of too much of our political class and our electorate. Messieurs Kerry and Murtha would well fit the character.

I didn't miss your point at all. And it was a fine rant. I was taking issue with you chopping up a quote and using that as a lead-in to an argument. I see that sort of selective quoting way to often, both in the MSM and on blogs and it bugs me.

We've all done it, GirlThursday dear. Just as an aside, I seem to recall that in the 2004 election those in our armed forces who voted divided about 25% Democrat, 75% Republican. Which had no impact on their performance after the votes were counted, that I was aware of... or before, or during.
Back on topic: did the producer's previous film, about the honourable senator himself, make a profit? How much had the senator invested in that vanity project? What does the producer base profit projections for the current project, other than wishful thinking? Veteran's groups know exactly what the honourable senator is, and aren't likely to get a copy to watch together, likewise veterans' health advocates. Who is the target consumer, how many of them will plump for the price of a ticket, and how many screens will the production be able to command?
No doubt there are Rantburgers with enough experience in the areas concerned to come up with better questions, but these will do for a start.

Admit it: You intended to twist my meaning into something I didn't write to press an issue that had little to do with the issue at hand.
You want to mask it by first going off into a tangent and then all of a sudden profanity , self censored was, is now the issue with you?
You have a personal problem with me, and I don't care if you admit that. But what I suggest you better do in the future is read what I write and if you have a problem in interpreting and in how I express myself, ask and you will be answered.
As it is, your responses, both the original and subsequent ones, were just dumb and completely lacking in logic (you seem to tout yourself as having) as it could be applied to the subject at hand.

GT you did learn the one thing I found evident when I was active, when I was civilian as well (Hi Balad & Bargram Fobbits!) - if you are a soldier few if any politicians are genuinely your friends.

Moose I would have guessed somewhere around those numbers. But for the most part we don't wear are politics on our uniform. If you did you would prejudice good order. If I gave someone a command I wanted them to follow it and not question it based on my percieved politics.

I have a particular problem with Kerry. He got to Cam Ranh a couple months after I left. It was considered nice duty. I think his original intention was to sign up for coastal patrol.
I ran into a few officers (and NCOs, for that matter) like him in my career. It's my opinion that he was in Vietnam to get his ticket punched so he could make a career for himself. And I think that once he found himself in a combat situation he set about getting nicked so he could get out of Dodge as quick as he could before something serious happened. I knew more than one person who did just that. They weren't respected one little bit, though they're probably riding their Purple Hearts to this day.
I knew one guy who tracked the time he spent flying form Saigon to Danang to pick up personnel records so he could get an air medal.
Kerry's story about his trip to Monkey Mountain, at Danang, is pure bullshit. I made the same trip at about the same time. He saw devastation, dead kids lying by the side of the road. I saw Danang and its immediate environs, and was propositioned by a hooker who was so cross-eyed she consistently turned her head in the wrong direction when somebody spoke to her.
