Girl chops off rapist's gennies
[Gulf News] Patna: A girl in Bihar chopped off the genitals of a rapist after he attempted to rape her again.

The wounded accused has been absconding since the incident and police are conducting intensive raids to arrest him.

The incident took place at a remote village in northern Bihar's Madhepura district in early July but was reported to the police on Thursday (July 31) and a case was formally registered.

Reports said the victim had suddenly fallen ill on July 1 after which her mother hurriedly consulted an "exorcist", Mahendra Gupta. The "exorcist" told her that her daughter had come under the influence of some supernatural power and that she required an immediate cure.

He took the girl in an isolated room in his house, where he allegedly raped her then threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the matter.
The devil made him do it.
Nobody suspected the accused since he was a close relative of the victim. The girl also did not reveal it to anyone fearing social stigma.

Reports said the accused visited the victim's house again the very next day and asked her come to his house. Before going to his house, however, the victim secretly carried a sharp knife and cellphone with her to record his conversation.

The moment he tried to rape her, she took out the knife and chopped off his genitals. Subsequently, she fled the scene as the accused lay in a pool of blood, writhing in pain.

The girl brought the matter to the notice of the local village court but, as it allegedly tried to hush up the case, she finally reported the matter to the police.

Florida man who tossed infant on highway through car window found guilty of murder
[NYDAILYNEWS] A Florida man was convicted of murder Thursday for tossing a 3-month-old boy out a moving car window along an interstate, killing the infant instantly.

According to prosecutors, 26-year-old Richard McTear attacked ex-girlfriend Jasmine Bedwell, 22, after she returned home with her son from a friend's house in 2009.

McTear blocked the door when Bedwell tried to flee and grabbed her son, Emanuel Wesley Murray, during the struggle. He then took off down Interstate 275 in Tampa, throwing the baby out of the window, prosecutors said. The baby's blood stains were found on McTear's shorts and in a car he was known to drive.

Defense attorneys argued that McTear was innocent and questioned the mother's credibility.

The jury deliberated for more than seven hours before finding McTear guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping, battery and aggravated child abuse charges. They will return to court on Monday to begin the sentencing phase.

From what I understand, prisoners don't like child molesters. My bet is that they like people who throw babies out of cars even less.

I would not be surprised if Mr. McTear has a seriously fatal shower accident while in prison. Or he falls down some stairs.

This Week in Guns: August 2nd, 2014

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

A lot can be said about the issue of militia patrolling at the border, but this story is still in flux. My opinion is that Oathkeepers and other "responsible" Patriot groups are more concerned about optics than they are about America's southern border. As one commenter said on a Patriot blog recently (paraphrasing): "Oathkeepers will be there at the border, selling t-shirts, and ball caps, and handing out application forms."

Just in case you are dubious about the government becoming a police state, it now is a informant state.

The New York State police, as part of its unconstitutional SAFE act that banned some semiautomatic rifles, is now haranging its citizens to inform on neighbors who fit certain criteria: buying large amounts of prepared meals, such as military MREs, and buying large amounts of ammunition, among others. The link was featured at Sipsey Street Irregulars, to which I replied: "I can't afford all that stuff!"

But if you have ever wanted a bolt action rifle that fires the .50 caliber BMG for under $3,000, your time has come.

First some background: Back in 2013, amidst the Newtown Massacre gun ban stampede, I went looking for an inexpensive heavy rifle I could build on the AR-10 platform using an 80 percent receiver.

There are two kinds of receivers available: DPMS and Armalite. Each has their own pattern which precludes using the other's upper receivers. The DPMS is more popular, possibly because it is cheaper, while the Armalite is usually more expensive. At the time, a complete AR-10 upper by DPMS (going by memory) went for about $950. An Armalite upper went for several hundred dollars more. But at the Armalite website I saw that Armalite had developed an upper which was chambered for the .338 Federal, which was another several hundred dollars more.

The .338 Federal cartridge is actually shorter than the .308 cartridge, and the .338 uses the .308 casing, "necked up" to accommodate the larger slug. You can load the same number of rounds as the .308 in a 20 round magazine, and the ballistic performance is about the same.

At the time, Armalite said the upper was out of stock. I followed that page for six months solid, until I figured they would never be in stock. Between then and two weeks ago, Armalite ceased offering uppers in .338 Federal. I later found out that DPMS sells AR-10 uppers for the .338 Federal.

Two weeks ago I found a manufacturer in northern Colorado which not only offered an AR-10 style upper in .338 Federal, they also had several uppers, complete assemblies chambered for the .338 Federal, .338 Lapua, .408 CheyTac (!), .416 Barret and the .50 Barrett.

How do you put a much larger cartridge into a lower receiver that uses shorter cartridges? As it was explained to me and as you can see on their website, the S1 upper can be fitted to an AR-15 lower, and is a bolt action single shot, hand loaded. The S3 can be fitted onto an AR-10 lower, either Armalite or DPMS. Zel manufacturing sells their S3 uppers chambered in .50 BMG, .416 Barrett and .338 Lapua.

The T1 uppers are available for .50 BMG, .416 Barrett, .408 CheyTac and .338 Lapua. All T1s are single shot, bolt action uppers. The T3s are bolt action but use a magazine that is fitted to the side, and are available in .50 BMG and .416 Barrett.

Now, for the big question, leaving aside whether you might be a big game hunter: why plunk down that kind of change for a big rifle, for which some rounds can cost as much as $13 each? I couldn't afford to buy something like this, but I want one, and you do, too.

Loads.

Caribbean-Latin America
Argentina economy not in default: Minister
[Iran Press TV] Argentina's Economy Minister Axel Kicillof says his country is not in default amid an ongoing debt row with US hedge funds.

Ratings agency Fitch declared Argentina in "restrictive default" on Thursday after Buenos Aires failed to clinch a deal with representatives from the funds.

Kicillof, however, said his country has not defaulted and that the Argentinean government is open to agreements between private parties.

"Those that want to talk about default do it without knowing about the issues. They should come with the contract and explain how it can be that we are in a default. This doesn't have a name, but if it did it wouldn't be default," he told a news conference on Thursday.
Argentina has so far refused to pay USD 1.3 billion to the debt investors as required under a recent US court ruling.

US District Court Judge Thomas Griesa had ordered Argentina to pay its debt "all together, without quotas, right away, now, in cash, ahead of all the rest" of bondholders.

Based on the verdict, Argentina has to make payments to both holdout bond investors and the holders of its restructured debt at the same time, which the South American country says cannot afford despite willingness to pay its debt.

Obama to deliver statement, hours after phone call with Putin
[NYDAILYNEWS] President B.O. will address the nation Friday afternoon, just hours after he spoke by phone to Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...

The two leaders agreed to keep open their channels of communication. It was the first conversation between the two leaders since July 17, the day when a Malaysian passenger jet was shot down over eastern Ukraine by what U.S. officials believe was a missile launched by pro-Russian separatists.

The White House said Obama "reiterated his deep concerns" about Russia's support for separatists in Ukraine, in light of evidence the Russian-backed Lions of Islam shot down a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet on July 17.

All 283 people onboard were killed.

The United States and Europe increased the pressure on Russia this week with a fresh round of sanctions.

Obama also sent Putin a letter out of concern Russia may have violated the INF Treaty, a 1987 weapons agreement preventing the possession, production or testing of intermediate-range cruise missiles capable of flying 300 to 3,400 miles.

The President stressed in his phone call Friday that he preferred a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

#6  Hell, Stalin, Mao, Lenin, Trotsky, FDR, Carter... none of them were communists either. All old fashioned autocratic fascists with a thin layer of propaganda to get dumbass union leaders and western mandarin class types to go along with them.

Can he quit making statements and DO SOMETHING?

To do nothing is something. He makes statements to pretend he beleives something he doesn't. As I said earlier in the week, if he said those Unterkranianmenchen better stop being uppity and go back to picking Masser Putin's cotton, because the work will make them free, it would match what he actually feels and does... but he'd run the risk of another 5% of his voters actually waking up.

North Korea Turns to U.N. over U.S.-SKorea War Games
[An Nahar] North Korea is asking the U.N Security Council to hold an urgent session to discuss upcoming U.S.-South Korean joint military exercises that Pyongyang described on Friday as a threat to peace.

Deputy representative Ri Tong Il told news hounds that the top world body had not responded to the request contained in a July 21 letter, and vowed North Korea will keep up missile launches in response to the planned war games.

"They are disregarding us. We cannot accept this," Ri told news hounds.

"If the U.N. Security Council turns away from this request for an emergency meeting, it will only expose itself as a U.N. body that has lost its principles, lost impartiality and lost its mandate of peace and security."

The annual Ulchi-Freedom Guardian exercise, aimed at testing combat readiness for a North Korean invasion, is scheduled to begin August 18.

Although largely played out on computers, it involves tens of thousands of South Korean and U.S. troops.

North Korea's U.N. envoy said his country would keep up rocket and artillery launches, which he described as "more than justifiable" to counter the threat posed by the joint exercises.

"Ongoing tactical rocket launches of all different types of artillery fire are being conducted by the DPRK," said Ri.

[An Nahar] Fourteen people were killed, including at least 10 government soldiers, in fighting overnight close to the crash site of downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, a Ukrainian military front man said Friday.

"In total it is known that 14 people died but the bodies of four of them have not been identified and could be Ukrainian soldiers or terrorists," said Oleksiy Dmytrashkivsky.

He added that "so far we are talking about 10 Ukrainian servicemen dead" in the clash, in the town of Shakhtarsk some 25 kilometers (15 miles) from the MH17 site. Earlier the Ukrainian military had said its troops were ambushed.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan Mocks Rival for 'Not Knowing National Anthem'
[An Nahar] A bitter row erupted Friday between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi only they haven't dumped him yet...
and his main rival in the presidential election after the premier accused his opponent of not recognizing the Turkish national anthem.

Erdogan mercilessly mocked Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu for not knowing the Istiklal Marsi (Independence March) anthem, a huge insult in a country which sets great store by patriotism.

Ihsanoglu, a softly-spoken, bespectacled intellectual, had visited a cemetery in Istanbul while campaigning and stopped by the tomb of poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the author of the words to the anthem.

The 70-year-old, a former head of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), boasted that Ersoy was a friend of his father in the early 1900s when the Turkish republic was founded.

But he committed a gaffe when he uttered the famous poet's verses from the national anthem written on the tomb only to say that they were from another poem called "Canakkale Sehitleri" (Martyrs of Gallipoli).

Speaking at a mass rally in the city of Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey on Friday, Erdogan broke off from his speech to air a video of Ihsanoglu's faux pas on a big screen.

Official: The Facts Are In, And Obama's Policy Is A Direct Danger To The United States
Joseph Miller is the pen name for a ranking Department of Defense official with a background in U.S. special operations and combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has worked in strategic planning.

The report is in, and the review of the president's foreign policy is clear: If there is not an immediate course-reversal, the United States is in serious danger.

In 2013, the United States Institute for Peace, "a congressionally-created, independent, nonpartisan institution whose mission is to prevent, mitigate, and resolve violent conflicts around the world," was asked to assist the National Defense Panel with reviewing the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR). The National Defense Panel is a congressional-mandated bipartisan commission that's co-chairs were appointed by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.

On July 31, the National Defense Panel released its long-awaited report on the effects of the QDR and delivered its findings to Congress. The panel pulled no punches -- its findings were a scathing indictment of Obama's foreign policy, national security policy, and defense policy. The panel found that president Barack Obama's QDR, military force reductions, and trillion-dollar defense budget cuts are dangerous -- and will leave the country in a position where it is unable to respond to threats to our nation's security. This, the panel concluded, must be reversed as soon as possible.

In particular, the report addresses the need for the administration to return to the flexible response doctrine -- a policy where the military was tasked with being capable of fighting two wars at the same time. Given the current state of affairs and the threats posed to our nation, the panel felt that the two-war doctrine was still required to meet our nation's national security challenges. The man-power reductions and budget cuts are both reflections of this change in policy, so it must be altered before that is possible.

So what is the flexible response doctrine, and why is it so important?

In 1961, the Kennedy administration sought to remake U.S. defense doctrine after concluding that former President Dwight D. Eisenhower's "New Look" doctrine, which focused on mutually-assured destruction, was inappropriate for the Cold War. Kennedy decided that the United States would adopt a "Flexible Response Doctrine," in which we would hold adversaries at bay through strategic deterrence and the ability to fight two wars -- plus a smaller conflict -- at the same time. That doctrine carried the United States through the Cold War and all of the other so-called shooting wars that followed, despite numerous challenges from nation states and non-state actors alike.

In 2012, the Obama administration decided to change the two-and-a-half war policy of the Flexible Response doctrine, in part due to the nation's war fatigue, after having been at war for over a decade, and also in response to budgetary constraints exacerbated by a sluggish economy. The administration announced its intentions to significantly reduce the defense budget and re-examine the acquisition of major defense systems and hardware, shaping the future size and scope of the U.S. military. Given that Obama was first elected on an antiwar platform, this decision seems reasonable.

Here's the problem: At the time the Obama administration announced the change in our defense doctrine, the president was also in front of the cameras threatening to use military force in Iran and Syria, announcing a "strategic pivot" toward Asia to counter a rising China, and swearing to uphold our defense treaties with Israel, Taiwan, South Korea, NATO, etc, all while we were still at war in Afghanistan. How can you threaten to take military action that could start a war when you are already fighting one in Afghanistan if you have changed your military doctrine to only fight one war at a time?

Some detractors may argue that this is a good thing, because it will prevent the president from starting another war. It's worth pointing out that not all wars are of our choosing. The U.S. went to war twice in the last 50 years because our homeland was attacked by enemy forces. And unlike World War II, the enemy has not been defeated -- even though the president plans to withdraw our forces from Afghanistan and has chosen to not take decisive action against these enemies in Iraq, Syria, Africa, etc. -- an enemy that still seeks to do us harm. The next war may not be of our choosing. And the enemy has pledged to do just that.

What is even more distressing is that this doctrine will trickle down into military acquisition strategy. The U.S. Navy purchases ships that will be in service for 50 years. That means that the ships we buy today will make up the Navy's fleet in 2065. The change in military doctrine that Obama directed will have a negative effect on the size and shape of our armed forces for decades to come. With a rising China, a re-emerging Russia, and a continued threat of global terrorism, who knows if at that time, the U.S. will be able to meet the challenges that lie ahead.

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said, "You go to war with the army you have, not the army you want." He was criticized for that remark, but it reflected the reality that he had to go to war with -- an Army that had been hollowed out after the Gulf War by the Clinton administration. War is not a video game. You cannot hit the pause button on a crisis and ask the defense industrial base and the armed services to give you what you need to fight a war. That only comes from long-term acquisition strategy driven by doctrine that accurately reflects future threats.

If the administration does not reverse course on its defense strategy and ask congressional Democrats to reverse defense spending cuts, then our nation will find itself in a position where it is unable to defend itself and could become the victim of terrorism on U.S. soil once again.

#4  The press, like Zero, think that this report is a sign of success. They REVEL in the deconstruction of the US as a super-power and an economic powerhouse.

An example of their goal would be parts of Texas, NM and/or AZ being ceded back to Mexico like the Crimea; Hawaii to China, etc

#6  its findings were a scathing indictment of Obama’s foreign policy, national security policy, and defense policy…budget cuts will leave the country in a position where it is unable to respond to threats to our nation’s security.

Did the panel ever consider that this was part of Obama's plan all along to degrade/neuter the U.S.'s capability?

They'll just blame the sequester, or the Obamacare lawsuit.

#9  Parts of Texas ceded back? Not gonna happen. You want a real shooting war, with the militia of the citizenry going into full action, just try that in Texas. Not just whites, but multigenerational hispanic born in Texas, with deep roots there, who see themselves as Texans first.

As for the rest? The press will wake up when the SHTF and blame it on whatever Republican in convenient.

#11  Thanks Uncle.

Parts of Texas ceded back? Not gonna happen. Mr. Spook, a true civil war would give him the excuse he craves for martial law and no elections. Not that it would work for him but it WOULD destroy the country, which is the apparent goal of this regime.

#12  I tell you this: a shooting civil war would end up with the instigator's head either in a noose, on a pike, or exploded by a large caliber round.

Mars 2020 Rover Will Carry Tools to Make Oxygen
[An Nahar] The suite of space-age tools loaded on NASA's next robotic vehicle, bound for the Red Planet in 2020, will include a device for making oxygen out of carbon dioxide.
Would that be an oxygen "plant"? (Sometimes I crack myself up...)
Designed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Mars Oxygen ISRU (in situ research utilization) Experiment (MOXIE), aims to see if Martian air could be converted for astronauts to breathe.

NASA has sent a series of robotic vehicles to Mars -- the latest is the Curiosity rover which launched in 2012 -- and hopes to have people exploring the surface of Earth's neighboring planet by the 2030s.

"The 2020 rover will help answer questions about the Martian environment that astronauts will face and test technologies they need before landing on, exploring and returning from the Red Planet," said William Gerstenmaier, associate administrator for the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate at NASA.

The Mars 2020 rover also aims to "identify and select a collection of rock and soil samples that will be stored for potential return to Earth by a future mission."

It will "conduct geological assessments of the rover's landing site, determine the potential habitability of the environment, and directly search for signs of ancient Martian life."

Other proposals accepted for the unmanned 2020 rover include advanced cameras and spectrometers for analyzing chemical composition, mineralogy and detecting organic compounds.

The rover will also carry a ground-penetrating radar and sensors for analyzing temperature, wind speed and direction, pressure, relative humidity and dust, NASA said.

The proposals chosen by NASA as scientific tools are valued at $130 million.
