Issa accuses IRS of obstruction, warns of consequences
[CNN] The Republican congressman spearheading a House probe of alleged Internal Revenue Service targeting of conservative political groups accused the head of the IRS on Tuesday of obstructing his panel's investigation.

Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, GOP Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, warned acting IRS chief Daniel Werfel that if "the IRS continues to hinder the committee's investigation in any manner, the committee will be forced to consider use of compulsory process."

Issa did not elaborate on exactly what steps his panel's Republican majority may be prepared to take, though he noted that impeding congressional Sherlocks could result in a prison term of up to five years.

"Obstructing a congressional investigation is a crime," Issa stressed in a letter co-signed by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

"Despite your promise to cooperate fully with congressional investigations, the actions of the IRS under your leadership have made clear to the committee that the agency has no intention of complying completely or promptly with the committee's oversight efforts," Issa said.

"The systematic manner in which the IRS has attempted to delay, frustrate, impede, and obstruct the committee's investigation raises serious concerns about your commitment to full and unfettered congressional oversight," Issa wrote.

Responding to Issa's claim, an IRS spokeswoman told CNN the agency is "aggressively responding to the numerous data requests we've received from Congress."

"We are doing everything we can to fully cooperate with the committees, and we strongly disagree with any suggestions to the contrary," Michelle Eldridge said.

I agree, we've all been "paying good money" for years to suffer their swindling, partisan incompetence. Long jail terms would be appropriate, and well earned.

Ah, yes, the standard UN strongly worded statement.

#6 You're on Billy. I'd rather go Greek at the Athena Pallas over on 22nd St., but I'll go easy on you at Ruth Chris. Mine will be a 12oz rib eye... medium. I gladly pay the freight to meet you. Keep your head down.

#9 Presidential pardons all 'round on Jan 20th, 2017.

And that's the best case scenario.

Sorry to be so cynical, but the last few years have shown that cynicism is warranted.

#10 For the record, I'm saying nobody will see the inside of jail cell. It will be either the filet or the rib-eye w/garlic mash. We'll get a table with a nice view of RR airport and a fine chianti!

#12 Reduce their budget 20-25%; that's the best way to hit them. I'll even endure 2 hour phone calls to the IRS help line if they did that (and it's a great excuse to start drinking early).

#13 Besides, Raj, they're wrong about 20-25% of the time anyway.
