Islamists have 1400 years of experience wooing/threatening entire populations.
If Israel does what is suggested in this article, it will be perceived as forced, as clumsy, as needy, as insecure. Nothing could be less attractive. Nothing could be more repulsive.

To a large extent George W. Bush really is to blame for this.

As for countering this, why not start with teaching what the founder of the MB, of which Hamas is a branch said in a mission statement:
