#1 I've got to believe there is more to this story. I really doubt that he mou tether scope himself. That would have been done by a Gunner's Mate. There may have been something else going on and the Navy used the scope story as an excuse.

FWIW I'm hearing that it wasn't the pic that did it but rather the pic inspired some other questions, which all had bad answers.

#5 Likely a US Made Trijicon scope with night vision capability (military only). Also note the top elevation adjustment cap and battery compartment cap lanyard wires. See the 4x32 below with similar triangle on windage cap. Just a guess.
