#1 That'll confuse the new Iranian satellite operators.

#3 The news isn't the low-budget deception attempt.
The news is that this is the Engels-2 airfield. Main strategic base. Think, like Tinker in OK or Minot in ND.

#4 Wait a minute. The planes look dark when seen from the top, but those wacky Russians are painting light silhouettes to hide them?

When processing digital images to locate or track objects, it helps to have strong contrast between the background and the object of interest. Looking at the image on the upper right, the white paint only makes the edges stand out. If the intent is maskirovka, you either want something that looks like a plane or 'dazzle' camouflage to fool edge detectors. Not buying it.

#5 In the photos on Drive/Warzone, one of the decoys is painted to look just like a real plane. It just doesn't cast a shadow like a real plane.

#6 I believe the markings introduce optical noise in an effort to deceive fast scan, time series AI photogrammetry in answering the question, "Is it there, is it not there?" rather than a camo effort.

Or they're marking the parking lot.

#7 Or they're marking the parking lot.

I actually thought of that. (it's not me, it's my brain)

Interesting about the optical noise/time-series business!
